It is pretty doubtful that construction on the 'Nakheel Harbour Tower' will be started, at least in this construction cycle.
Also, work on the 'Russia tower' designed by foster and located in Moscow, has been put on hold.
The same can be said about the Chicago spire.
As much as I'd like to see these get built, it would be pretty tough to get these even half-way completed in the current market conditions.

Lots of them aren't getting built - not for many years I guess.

I went there on Sunday trying to get some pics. I was just able to get a couple of the entrance. Tried to get some pics from a higher perspective, but the buildings I tried to get into were locked from the angle I needed to get to look into the area. I'll try to post the other pics later, but there probably won't be much new to look at. There is a huge camp of workers constructing this, though.

The one reason why this happens in many urban developments is because .Say they decide a huge project in what was previously a swamp .The beuracrats and politicians buy up all the lands around this swamp and then they consciously allocate projects in this area . So the surronding real estate value shoots through the sky with new huge constructions and economic activity around this area and they make like millions and millions . This is what happened in my city and in general this is how beuracrats make money legally

^^According to the latest news, test piling of their 132m pile, the longest in the world, has finished and I'd guess that they're moving into real piling now. I'm sure some of the side buildings are already rising at this point.

I don't really understand this CBD layout... Are they going to do what Beijing is doing, and build section by section, One tall tower in a small area does look a bit odd, unless they will expand the CBD later on.

^^don't think so, they just accept any proposal that comes, since it doesn't seem like many come.

This tower looks nice and the effect on the skyline will be awesome. The urbanism of the development around it, shown above, is kind of weak in the sense that all the buildings are just middling high-rises. Much better if other talls were combined with this baby :)

SSP reports it on hold too. Turns out the slow down was not only cold weather.

Dead is usually equivilent to cancelled, while on-hold means the construction is temporarily suspended, but is still planned to be completed eventually.

Actually this is not just Tianjin 117. It is series of buildings and constructions that we are talking .It is a massive gigantic project and the 117 tower happens to be one of them . This project is primarily in the outskirts of the city. With hardly any residence . So there are lot of questions that still remain . Maybe 117 tower is just the piece in this mammoth plan which could easily take 10 years to realise.

I am following this project for a while now, but there allways was many qestions about it, that was never answered like: where is it located, wich part of the project we are looking on each photo update at, and how big really this whole thing is. I made some research, and now would like to clear some things up:

First. This thing is vast :D. For the last two years from time to time we were provided with some "front gate pictures" like this:

But i guess most of you (well at least I) was quite confused where to look at right? Where the hell is the bloody tower you would ask? ;) And that is one thing , another is that what we can se after that gate is just small part of the development. That I thing really shows how big it is, and if believe google earth, and that pictures have really been taken june 28 2009, they still have a lot to do.

Finally, as for the location, the coordinates are 39 05' north, and 116 04' east, and here is the goole maps link:

As you can see the development isn't only out of the center of Tianjin, but out of the whole city actually ;)

It isn't really a "pudong" at all. It is more just a massive, bizarre development. While the area does have a hi-tech industrial park nearby, it is most immediately bordered by a bunch of (not very prestigious) universities, as well as a gigantic rainforrest-themed restaurant where they have seals swimming through an artificial river in the middle of it, (you can order the seals, from what I'm told). Even the development itself, if you look at the overview posted below, is pretty spread out, and not a dense urban area like you would expect in Pudong along the river.

This is a tower in Dongguan. The 'diamond' thing doesn't look bad at all. Thought it could be interesting to imagine the outcome of this tower.

i think without the crystal it is classic and yeah kinda neutral and cool, but would never be something unique for a skyline. and since it is sticking around of this city it shall be unique in its way

I went to the site earlier this month, main site still in foundation, but some of the side buildings (boring five-story commieblocks) have topped out

One forumer said they'll start digging for the main tower in the winter. Side towers have great progress, a lot faster than I had anticipated :)

its easier to develop a new site than to demolish buildings in the old downtown and redevelop it. The old downtown in Tianjin is full of European colonial neighborhoods anyway, most are protected from demolition so skyscrapers can only be built around the edges.

i havn't heard quite some time about this project. the last thing i saw was that it had development but very slow. And i wanna know if it's still slow, the construction is holded or if something else happened to this project?

you cant be serious right? this tower is being built outside of Tianjin, along with the entire development

on satellite pictures you can see that the site around goldin finance is nearly complete fields still. at least by building it outside the city there is no need for destruction work x)
