Haha, nice. Where was this sign located? Seems kind of obscure with the shrubbery surrounding it.

Well, if you include all of Southern California I think you're already there. Let's just keep the vegetation from obscuring the message, as it tends to do. Crivit, where in England are you located?:)

There's also a big ass chunk missing from the right side; damn vandals. I bet it was those liberals from the LA weekly :D

I don't know exactly where the sign is but I am guessing the Yamota is right as Otis Chandler was the publisher of the Los Angeles Times between 1960 and 1980.

I live in South East England, in a coastal town called Southend. Its located about 50 miles outside of London. Although my heart belongs in California!
I have visited LA and the surrounding counties 3 times now in the last 8 years. I will be visiting again next year and staying there for just under a month!

That's awesome Crivit, LA is much better for having a visitor like yourself!

Out of curiousity, have you read Londonistan by Melanie Philips? If you have, I was wondering what your take on it is.

Cheers!

You know what else would be interesting, mate? Why the intense interest in a city that's on the other side of the planet? I mean, it's a great location and is the most well known spot going these days, but what drives you to visit here so often? Do you tour the States and end up in L. A. as part of your trip? Is it Hollywood stuff? I think anyone would be interested 'here' as to why you, being on the south end of what is often termed the current capital of civilization, are looking west toward a relatively new upstart 'metropolitan'? Cheers mate

Well, you know the old saying: "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence"; maybe this is simply a case of that

I briefly answered this in another thread. I have taken holidays in various countries and I feel happier in California. I enjoy the climate and from what I can see the way of life. However, I would never know if I was completely happy in California until I had actually lived there, spending two weeks on vacation is different from living and working there.
On previous visits I stayed in Anaheim and drove up to Los Angeles. I also stayed in Las Vegas and Palm Springs. On my next trip I will be adding San Diego to my lists of places visited in California.
I have a passion for films and love the Hollywood aspect. I have worked previously in studios in London so the immense scale of the studios in Burbank interests me. I was lucky enough to get a private tour around Warner Bros studios when I visited back in '98 and it was great.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side, who knows!

So it is the Hollywod stuff. Then, your place is here. You're not a writer, are you?:)

LOL, no I am not a writer! I agree Hollywood is part of the appeal but its not the only thing that makes me love california. I think not paying the equivalent of $8 for a US gallon of petrol probably helps too!

Well, if it's cheap gas (or petrol as they say in your part of the world) your'e after, LA really isn't themost ideal place. Houston has the cheapest gas at I think 2.80-something a gallon for 87 octane. San Francisco has the highest, I think at just over 3 bucks. LA is just below that, 2.90-something or in some areas over 3 bucks.

LOL, Thanks for all the gas price updates! But I can assure you that is not the only reason why I would want to move to LA.

70% of our gas price is tax!

I found a few more good historic pictures of LA which I will post later. Hope you are all enjoying the festive season!
