View Full Version : Agrinio
MetroGuardian December 14th, 2007, 09:28 PM Agrinio is one of the largest provincial Greek towns, but one of the least known as well. It is the most populous city in Aitoloakarnania, the biggest perfecture of Greece. The estimated population of the city is around 80.000, including surrounding villages and suburbs.
Agrinio is also situated next to the largest lake of Greece, Trihonida.

agnwstos December 14th, 2007, 10:14 PM I didn't know Agrinio was so big,but is it really one of the biggest cities in Greece?
Only 80.000pop?
MetroGuardian December 14th, 2007, 10:32 PM Excluding the large ones (Patras, Larisa, Volos, Ηerakleion), I think it comes in the next tier, along with Ioannina, Kalamata, Chania, Kavala. It should be in the top 10 of Greek cities.
Grk101 December 15th, 2007, 10:27 PM Amazing pictures and threads. Agrinio inst too far from me in Greece. (About 25 Minutes) I can tell you though that traffic is a big problem in the city.....In the past couple of years they have made many of the streets in the city one way to help with traffic, but that just makes driving in the city so confusing. Not to mention that you can never find parking.
Bleakdyce December 18th, 2007, 03:25 AM Agrinio is important, it is the 12th city of Greece in terms of population, but it often goes unnoticed because the prefectural capital is the historicaly significant Mesolonghi.
johnt_gr December 26th, 2007, 02:15 AM Looks like a big town, actually never been in its centre cause everytime I'm near Agrinio, I'm on my way to Athens by car or bus so I can only see the town's skyline from afar!

Nothing special, but for a town like Agrinio it is ok. I would have liked to see that money spent on railways, though. I hate KTEL.
christos-greece September 12th, 2009, 12:51 PM Indeed, amazing photos of Agrinio, especially aerial ones, and looks big city indeed:

SouthernEuropean September 14th, 2009, 03:22 AM I didn't know that, thanks for the info...Oh and of course for a central square it looks rather unimpressive...but maybe typical as well?
christos-greece September 15th, 2009, 07:29 PM Maybe its not :dunno: i dont have a friend from there to show him the photo to understand...
ellis896 September 16th, 2009, 01:18 AM i'd say Agrinio is ok, nothing the exciting picture-wise.

It has that taste of "επαρχία" like Lamia has. Nothing special, but looks peaceful.
christos-greece September 17th, 2009, 07:11 PM Agrinio is much than O.K. the city is really very nice
