RCSI Bahrain Health Oasis

The creation of the RCSI Bahrain Health Oasis is the culmination of a 30 year relationship between the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

The RCSI Bahrain Health Oasis will represent a truly unique medical education and healthcare campus within a world class, mixed use waterfront development – an international healthcare centre of excellence and enterprise for the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Middle East. When completed, it will integrate world-class healthcare, state-of-the-art medical education & research and health sector enterprises in an unprecedented environment designed to foster novel approaches to healthcare and healthcare delivery. It will be unlike any existing or proposed health or wellness centre in the region as it will combine an extensive and comprehensive provision of international standard, RCSI led medical and healthcare excellence, with state-of-the-art medical enterprises, in a high amenity leisure waterfront environment.

The Health Oasis development site extends to circa 38 hectares and lies within a greater healthcare site (circa 60 hectares) which also includes the King Hamad University Hospital and the RCSI Medical University of Bahrain. The site is located on the island of Muharraq which is adjoined to the mainland by a series of bridges and is well located being close to Bahrain International Airport and the main population centre of Manama.

The RCSI Bahrain Health Oasis will enjoy an impressive waterfront outlook to Bahrain Bay, World Trade Centre and the Financial Harbour as well as immediacy of access to both the International Airport and the traditional Manama central business zone into which it is effectively merging.

Development is expected to commence in 2008.

OASIS OF HEALTH
By MANDEEP SINGH, Posted on » Wednesday, May 20, 2009

MANAMA: Work was officially launched yesterday on a massive project which will turn Bahrain into a health oasis "unique to the region".

It will draw hundreds of thousands of health tourists seeking world-class care in idyllic surroundings, said Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone of the multi-billion dollar Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Health Oasis, at its campus in Busaiteen.

"Bahrain has once again taken the lead in providing the best healthcare anywhere in the region and with this addition, it will become the destination of choice for hundreds of thousands of people who will come for their general well-being, as well as to receive medical treatment in idyllic seafront luxury and ambience," said the Premier.

He was accompanied by Irish Minister in charge of Labour Affairs Dara Calleary, who described it as a "truly unique, international healthcare centre".

The project is located next to and will include the RCSI Medical University of Bahrain and the King Hamad General Hospital, which is now under construction.

It will also feature the Oasis Private Hospital, along with other medical centres, a five-star resort and four-star hotel, spas, a wellness centre, a promenade of shops and waterfront cafes, serviced apartments, sports facilities and more.

This project is postponed until a later date. The ceremonial foundation stone went down over a year ago but that is as far as it went. Based on the current business plan it will be a few more years before it raises it head again.
