I see no reason at all,for me at least, to change the 3th September as the independence day, into 18th December as the national day, or the 'founder's day' as some call it. i believe that the independence day is the greatest moment in the history of any nation in the world. therefore, i can no longer accept the idea of celebrating the birth of a man we know nothing about except what our government and the government-controlled media is telling us what they, not the history, want us to know, about a person that we don't even have a picture of him.
apparently what the regime in Qatar is trying to do, is to compete with other countries in creating an idol to worship, just like Ataturk in Turkey, Ibn Saud in Najed & al-Hijaz, Sheikh Zayed in the Emirates & Mohamed Ali Jinnah in Pakistan.
let the government in Qatar celebrate 18th december as the national day as much as she wants and shove that event down our throat, but as for me, 3th September is the day where I feel so proud of, because i witnessed that day myself, when they annonced it on the radio, and i was in the classroom at that moment, so, it became part of me & i grow up with it.

sorry brother I dont agree with you our national day much important than independence day why we celebrate for 3rd of september and our country wasnt invaded we only was under the managment of Great Britian this not worth even celebration lol and I dont have problem with keep it but the most important for us is our national day when the ruling applied first effective authority.

At first I thought the same thing. But then, one of my friends made a really good point. Why do we celebrate the day were were once controlled by the United Kingdom, where we should celebrate the day one of our rulers united the Qatari peninsula? Why should we give credit to a foreign power for having soveignity over our nation? Its not as if we made a war to gain independence or something. We should celebrate a day that is made by our people for our people.

ya azizi we are not celebrating the "DAY" where we once controlled by the british, we are celebrating the "DAY" where that control was over.
qatar was annonced as protoctrate in 1913, and in septmeber 1971, decleared independence.
by the way, did you know that some gulf countries were not willing to decleare independence from britain? that's what sheikh zayed said in one of his interviews. he said "we, told the british, please stay and we will give you oil and money, but they say, no..no, we don't want your money nor your oil, we most leave".
funny! but i wonder, what if britiain decided to remained in the qatar & didn't leave, would qatar be like hongkong?

Lool Doha will not be like HongKong, we would have a blond ruler probably--HEAVENS forbid! But Wakrawi, think about it. We shouldnt give Britain credit for "ruling" us,, we would make a day which the Qatari peninsula was unified.
BTW, Dafna almost looks like Hong Kong, dont you think? haha.. and yeah I heard about that UAE thing.
