Great pics!
Here are pics I took on my trip to NY in December 96.
Back then I wasnt into skyscrapers and staring at buildings. However on the ferry out to Liberty Island I couldnt help but be impressed by the massiveness and grandeur of NY's skyline and I am glad I took these pics.

Two years ago, America was attacked.
Utterly, and intentionally.
It's already been more then 700 days, and yet it still seems like yesterday. The smoke. The Fire. The Rubble. Then Nothing.
We've continued. The Attacks did not weaken us. We have become more united, more a people.
As we attack Terrorism at it's heart, We Rebuild.
Most of us don't like the designs for our new Towers.
Before 9/11 most didn't like the Old Towers.
Let's Move on.
Let's Rebuild, and build something just as great, but different, from the Twins. I know it will turn out ok. They will become Icons. Everything will be ok.
It's time to get going. Time to move on.
"Lets Roll."
*Never Forget 9/11*

I was there in 1996 and I remember I could see the Twins from Jones Beach in long island. When you look at the image of the office space, you realize 'they actually designed that in the early 70's, damn awesome'. And yes I also went to the observation deck in 1996 and was surprised on the roof I saw some names written on the edge, as if somebody jumped there????? I will never forget that, and also the lobby was amazing.

I went up the WTC several times as a child and have wonderful memories of my family and I feeling "on top of the world". They were awesome and it saddens me greatly that they were destroyed in such an appalling manner.
May they and all who died in them RIP.

The best thing about the towers were that they were so IMPOSING.
They just shot up in the sky, pure height. Totally New York City.
Nothing will ever be the same. The 1776 Freedom Tower will be good. Have some faith.

i have faith nyc project!!!... this will be a great success i think.. my intuition is generally on point.. not bragging , ti just usually works out the way i expect it. I think with the reconstruction.. will bring a wave, of new business, maybe not right away, but definetly not far... at the right time.. and new york skyline will change yet again. New designs like fosters hearst magazine tower , the kissing towers, odd stuff like that will pop up, new york city has been recreating itself since it's birth, it went from indian inhabitants on manhattan island- to dutch colonialzation- to a british merchant post?? am i right about that? to a developing city, to a hub of america.. to a growing 19th century city, to a well developed late 19th century city, to a grid lined, metropolis.. to the guilded era of boss tweed and dramatic early century skyscrapers.. to a mega city.. art deco, times square, the 1940's prewar and post war buildings, to the sixties, when these "boxes" popped up everywhere, and glass facades became big, to the 70's and 80's when a new wave of modern architecture dawned the manhattan skyline up and down, to the 90's when we were still moving upward, guiliani, redevelopment, to now.. more highrises, more extreme architecture.. times square ever expanding.. to the future which in my opinion will be an incline.. new york will test the times.. and recreate itself for the umpteenth time.. we will .. lol my crystal ball says so.. but no , the truth is nyc has had it's declining periods and inclining periods, we have seen both up and down for a few years now,, imo it will only get better.. we have no fear, there are speed bumps but they will not be tooo hard to pass.. make way for nyc.. it's coming.

Whether they're rebuilt or not in this decade, the spirit of the Twin Towers will live on, and the new life they injected into Lower Manhattan and then into Downtown Brooklyn and Jersey City will continue flowing. Now if only our political officials could muster up the courage to dismantle the LMDC...

I am really having to hold my tongue on this, but ill say what i can.
Anyway, nice pics. It is a true shame about the event. They were truly spectacular.
But about the attacks, you cannot say it was totally un-justified and purely based on terrorism for the sake of terrorism.
Before you start to flame me, yes i am a humanitarian, i love people i am deeply sory about the souls lost in this tragedy. I would never wish this upon people.
But yeah, as i said.
Once again, sorry, i love the western world.

"But about the attacks, you cannot say it was totally un-justified and purely based on terrorism for the sake of terrorism."
I think you partly right. They do not know anything besides violence and pain. Why you ask? Because thats the type of world they were brought up in, and learned in.
They feel the western world has ignored their crys for help and this is the way they get attention. I hate to sound like your old Psychology teacher but its true.
They will never stop.

OK so its OK for your government to fight a war on their ground and aggrivate them, but if they retaliate in any kind of way its a no-no.

Aggrivate them? LOL...I get it. Leave a sleeping dog alone. Maybe if we just ignore the problem it will go away.
Your right, we shouldent furthure aggrivate 90 Percent of a culture that is already hell-bent on destroying itself and everybody else for that matter.
Oh! I have a better idea lets appease them. Maybe if we just give them what they want they will be happy! Right? Perhaps some enriched uranium, maybe some poison gas to add to the genocide.
The United States of America has tried the isolationism policy before, needless-to-say, it doesn't work. This is everyones world.

that's a really cool pic lecom. and i agree with u. nyc will never be the same again without the twins. they gave the skyline and the city as a whole something so special that only towers similar to them can truly replace. those hardcore utopians just don't understand that, don't they? in the beyer blinder belle plans and the 2nd round of plans new yorkers have demonstrated over and over again that they truly love the twin towers and only twin towers can repair the skyline. the site was meant for the twin towers.
even though they may be boxy, they still look grand and amazing. and what's important, they made a skyscraper enthusiast out of me and probably many other fellow forumers too. to the twin towers: im sorry that i never visited u two while u guys were still living. rest in peace okay? i'll never forget what you accomplished in nyc during your short lives, and what u guys did for me...

A.D. Aftermath of Destruction 9/11/01
http://www.bravestmemorial.com/gif/wtc_lights.jpg
I saw the face of misery
While looking into a child's eyes
How could a country so strong
Suffer such a great demise.
From slavery to the great depression,
America has seen it all
Why is it as we've begun to come together
It is now that we fall?
Now I know what it means to be an American
As citizens we share a common vein
Race, color, sex or creed cannot divide us
When the pain we feel is the same.
Today, people lost friends and family
I have lost my peace of mind
Because today I was reminded
Of how the world can be so unkind.
We took for granted what God gave us.
We forgot what it means to be free
Remember now! As the nation sits in stunned silence.
Grieving, "from sea to shining sea."

The 1776 Freedom Tower will be good. Have some faith.
The sad reality is that the Freedom Tower will be known as nothing more than the twisted sister which ruined lower Manhattan's skyline.
Nothing with 676 feet of deception can have the potential to be good.

it seems that freedom tower is not very popular. i'm interested in why this is, is it the design for the new project or the wish to have the old towers restored?
From what i have see i like the design for freedom tower altho i dont realy understand the need for the empty section at the top, but i realy like the memorial pools in the footprints of the old towers. everyone loves parks.
My major problem with it, is that it lacks the imposture (if thats a word) of the old towers. the old towers dominated the skyline, i'm not sure freedom tower does
everyone loves the old towers but shouldnt we accept what happend and move on?

after a few hours of conversation had passed by, she commented on my collection of ny prints/posters and paintings..
It turns out she was working in the City, & living in Jersey thru 9-11.. we stayed up all night long and swapped stories
about how it had affected us, and where we stood today..
Friends.. let me tell you.. I thought I knew what happened that day...
Some of the things she shared with me will haunt me for the rest of my life..
The images have been burned into my brain w/out even seeing them to begin with..
Having said that.. on to the reason I'm posting..
...at one point during the night she pulled an image from her purse and handed it to me..
upon seeing the date, chills shot thru my body like shit thru a goose...
http://img181.echo.cx/img181/9575/wtc910013ic.jpg-http://img181.echo.cx/img181/4995/wtc91001b6xf.jpg
It's been in her purse since its developing...
there was something about seeing this particular moment in time that still,
days later fucks with my head and makes me wanna heave...
If only I could warn them type feelings begin to take over..
much like they do when watching TAXI or old SNL re-runs...
...seeing the world thru innocent eyes, oblivious to what lies ahead...

everything I post comes from either www.pbase.com or www.altavista.com (image search)
if you can't find what you need from these two sources, chances are its not out there... learn to think like the search engine.. I know it sounds stupid, but it works...think about what you would name the file that you're searching for...

I have read and heard many survivor stories of 9/11 from people inside or near the buildings struck. I'm from CA and never been to NY. I lived through 9/11, watch the footages on CNN, and remembered all the cars in the streets with patriotic U.S. flags. I'm trying to understand what it was like to witness the horror of 9/11 in person.
Why and how is this smilie included in the choices anyway? I respect the victims of 9/11. From what I read and heard, I believe that this is very similar to what happened to the people who jumped from the Twin Towers on that fateful day. Those devilish terrorists and their crime against humanity. Those 2,800 poor innocent workers gone with the towers of pride in a few moments, around 200 of those in Tower 1 who spent the last 8 seconds of their lives falling and taking their final breaths of cool, fresh air...
:badnews:
In NYC, did it rain on the night September 10, 2001? Was the sunset of that day clearly visible or blocked by clouds? To those who recalled or are certain, please answer. Did Donald Trump influence the outcome of what will be built over the WTC site? Is it in any way selfish or not?

You can tell that a photo was taken inside the Twin Towers by looking at the view from the windows or by how the windows look (vertical narrow rectangular windows with a height from the floor to the ceiling).

comment from the artist :
The fountain itself was very modest. It was not a huge flowing thing of water, but from the center of the red disk, there was a small hole, from which water came out and flowed evenly over the sides of the disk and into a slot. Around the red disk was a brief inscription and the names of the six people that were killed in 1993. So, one would walk up to it and look into the center and see the inscription.

Grandiose towers for a grandiose City.
Do you know Lyon in france ?
It's just a personal question.
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Emma Lazarus' poem, The new Colossus (1886), is engraved on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty (the famouser present from France to Unated states of America).
France and USA are old friends! :grouphug:

When seeing these past threads ,
a special feeling comes to my mind,
I really miss the WTC ,
Sure- No other buildings could replace them though the later ones may be taller than them......
WTC will always be missed in the mind of people who love them !

Over fours now since 9/11, and it still saddens me whenever I'm in NY to see that gap in the skyline, or look at the old pictures such as the ones on this thread. I went to the WTC for the first time in Sepetember '91, it was everything I had dreamed and more. It will be hard to replace!

Whats really sad is that nothing has been build on ground zero yet. You would think something would have been erected at this point... all we hear is all the local politicians bloviating.
Anyways, I do miss the twin towers alot. The big hole in the sky is just sickening.
