wow, it seems like there has been some progress made to the cladding of these towers. \yeah, i think the pinnacle will be one of those towers that will look good but will not look new when finished, its mainly due to the color of the cladding i think. I know that there are lots of buildings in the Chongqing area which have that same feel, its a new building, but it doesn't look new. hahahahaha

A big contrast to the ultra modern pearl river tower

I totally agree with this. The colour makes it look old. A pitty imo, cause the design is probably one of the very best in the area.

The Pinnacle emerges nicely now, especially with the vertical stone cladding, giving a good contrast to all the glass towers in Guangzhou. And the partition every four floors will help to quickly count and identify the floors. :cheers2:

The towers don't even make it the best in my mind. They really did well with the park, and its easily the nicest park I've ever seen in a big city.

z0rg
May 17th, 2011, 10:13 PM
Yup. Best CBD park ever. Greenery is normally useles, but they made this one a true park-avenue. Plus they are setting an underground ocean of shops, restaurants, bus stations and parkings all along the pedestrian zone. Therefore the whole axis will have a lot of pedestrian life unlike most planned CBDs worldwide

Hey Zorg, I thought you were pro-density, didn't know you like all this spaced out planned CBDs as well.

I'm glad that many cities around the world, including Perth and New York is following with these planned developments. There are some buildings in HK that I really like, but are covered by some mediocre building when viewed from avenue of the stars. Pudong and ZhuJiang ensures that this won't happen

There is an extreme amount of density here. This park is much smaller than NY's central park, and yet it has alot more development going on directly around it, including 6 supertalls (maybe more in the future), with several 20m+ towers as well.

I don't feel such an extreme density as you describe it, but half of the projects have not started to rise yet. On the south west corner around the west tower, besided the Hyatt Tower, all buildings are build, and well, density is okay but not breathtaking imo. Not to compare with Tokyo's Nishi Shinjuku area or Central in Hong Kong.

Indeed. But Zhujiang is a different case because there's underground use for the open space, so that land isn't wasted. But yeah. I support unlimited density, always :D

Gosh Guangzhou is becoming nuts. That underground mall will be huge. I have heard about it but didn't expect it to be that big, and not on two floors.

My girlfriend told me today they are about to open a similar one ( underground on 2 floors) called Fashion Mall just under the Tiyu Zhongxin, the sports stadium in Tianhe. This one will go from Tiyu Xi Lu and Tiyu Dong Lu. To let you imagine how huge it will be, they have a project for a cinema down there.

My question is: How are they gonna fill those two monster underground mall?
This is really a mystery. Are they over estimating the needs for shopping space or just in line with the future needs?

Well there are loads of very large underground malls in GZ allready, it might be due to the hot and humid climate that they are loved by shoppers, its always crowded in thoose malls. So I dont think its gonna create an oversupply. Consumer spending is also increasing very fast in China.

Thats what i think :)

Agreed. Too many new skylines are overly dominated by glass, gets monotonous. This breaks it up and makes the entire skyline look fantastic!

Well seems like I belong to a minority of people not liking the cladding. No problem with the old school look, it's just that the colour is too orange imo. There is another building in Tiyu Dong Lu a couple of blocks away from the centre of Zhujiang New Town that has a very similar cladding but with better colours.

They are also gradually installing the night illuminations, and it is like on most of the other buildings nearby, changing bounty colours. Not the best match with the style of the cladding. I would have liked a classic white lightning way better.

Yes, and Leatop Plaza misses 1000 feet by only 7. But if we go for +300-meters-towers, we even get 5 of them in Guangzhou now:

1. Guangzhou IFC .......... 439 m / 1439 ft / 103 fl / 2010
2. CITIC Plaza ............... 390 m / 1280 ft / 80 fl / 1996
3. The Pinnacle .............. 360 m / 1181 ft / 60 fl / 2012
4. Pearl River Tower ....... 310 m / 1016 ft / 71 fl / 2011
5. Leatop Plaza ............. 303 m / 993 ft / 64 fl / 2011
(data from CTBUH)

... plus the +600 m Guangzhou TV Tower for bonus.

Btw. I like how The Pinnacle adds a different style to the glass towers around. Looks like right from the 90's, but in a good way.

I was afraid, this building could be kitsch, but I'm loving the real thing.

The vertical lines, setbacks and spire have very clear art deco influences. Would it be correcto to say that The Pinnacle is a Post/Neo-Art Deco building?

Indeed. What a beauty. For me easily the best skyscraper of Guangzhou and also one of chinas best. Can't wait to see it fully finished :)

Beautiful building....such great variety of styles in this part of Guangzhou. I wonder if this will have a special lighting scheme at night.

Finally something different than all the global glasstowers. Imo this is the best skyscraper of Guangzhou, even one of the best in China. Hopefully more classical skyscrapers will follow. :)

Yes I'll drink to that . We need less glass (and especially less BLUE glass) and more old fashioned cladding. But I think that the IFS or IFC tower is this city's best.

i have nothing agains glass cladding if not every tower has the same look. it shold be a mix of different colours and types of cladding. and goungzhou has e very good mix. that makes a skyline more interesting.
