Anybody know anything about the almost finished 1 Kingsway (which btw I think is the coolest address)? I see it's a CoV project but how will it look once completed?

Joev December 29th, 2007, 10:24 AM You can find some renderings here: http://www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/corpsvcs/facility/1kingsway/design/index.htm Rhino December 29th, 2007, 11:44 AM http://www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/corpsvcs/facility/1kingsway/design/images/p16-tl.jpg nova9 December 29th, 2007, 10:59 PM Thanks! But is that a brick rendering or a brown paint/plaster? officedweller December 30th, 2007, 03:52 AM Red-brown brick. A bit on the dark depressing side for my taste. Earlier renderings showed yellow brick, but the City wanted a more heritage look (despite being a modernist building by Busby), so they changed it to the red brick. nova9 December 30th, 2007, 10:21 AM Yeah, a more vibrant colour would have suited the nature of the area around main st. much better. as it looks now in the rendering, it kinda reminds me of a high school or public school and that can't be the greatest thing. aliso December 31st, 2007, 10:03 AM During one of the public consultation events at Kingsgate Mall, a member of the public had a fit about the plans for yellow brick. (I could see the Suits at the show-and-tell were quite taken aback.) It looks like she got what she wanted... and it might be a shame. There is at least one older yellow brick building in that area, so it really would have fitted in quite well, heritage and all. spongeg January 3rd, 2008, 02:17 AM theres a few yellow brinck buildings in the area aren't there? after reading this thread the other day when driving around i really noticed yellow brick buildings something i never really paid attention to before Overground January 3rd, 2008, 05:02 AM Me too, something I never really thought about looking out for. Off the top of my head the only one I can think of in that area is Quebec Manor on E 7th and Quebec. nova9 January 3rd, 2008, 09:10 AM WhenI try to recall yellow buildings, I can only think of the yellow I see on Spectrum by GM Place. officedweller January 4th, 2008, 01:33 AM What I want to see somewhere downtown is a brick building using the light gray bricks they used on the 60s buildings at UBC - like Buchanan, and the Chemistry extensions, Herb Theatre, etc. That would look great on a modernist condo tower. aliso January 4th, 2008, 02:06 AM theres a few yellow brinck buildings in the area aren't there? after reading this thread the other day when driving around i really noticed yellow brick buildings something i never really paid attention to before Yes, walking today I saw several yellow brick buildings in that part of Main Street, at 10th and 11th; as well as the new church on 13th which actually looks really nice. It seems to be a popular look in the area and it would have been nice to see yellow brick at 1 Kingsway. Oh well, the community centre is a great addition to Mount Pleasant in many other ways! |
