I am a New Jersey native and both of my parents were born and raised in NYC so my trips to the city have always been more to hang out, see friends/family, etc. and not as a tourist. I will be taking my best friend to the city this spring, which will be his first trip to the northeast, period, let alone to New York. We're both SSC/UP fanatics so I thought I might take him to the Skyscraper Museum. Has anyone been? Is it worth going to? Thanks.

I've been there once, if you're skyscraper fanatics, it's a good way to spend some time. It's like $5 to get in, it's pretty small, still good nonetheless.

Definitely stop by when you're downtown in Lower Manhattan, it's in a beautiful neighborhood.

Here's the site:

Thanks New Jack, I think we will. I've never really done the touristy stuff while in the city, it might be cool to do some of that.

To find it, look for the Ritz Carlton Hotel that was recently built in BPC and walk along it for the entrance, but don't walk into hotel.

I never heard about it! I'll definitely pay it a visit.

from the outside, it's probably the most on the low museum i've ever seen. a week into moving, i didn't even realize i lived across the street from it until i walked past the direct front of the little glass doors (which are in the ritz's shadow) that read "skyscraper museum".

They got some really nice models, pictures and old drawings over there. It's definitely worth for a visit but don't expect a museum where you can spend a whole day in it.

Here some pictures that I've made:

They got a lot of information on their site. The virtual archive is awesome!

I went there, it's very interesting if you're into skyscrapers. A lot of pictures of visions and planning from early 20th century.

well all you had to do was scroll up a few posts above to see the explanations ;)

For anyone who's been there recently, do they still have the huge WTC model?

Quite disappointing ... too small, although the exhibits themselves were pretty good.

I expected more during my trip.

Does anyone know if NYC Planning's got one of those giant rooms with a scale model of the whole city like Shanghai and Dubai does?

Yeh, I got the same feeling when i went there years ago.

The Police Museum (see the 911 exhibit) is much better than the Skyscraper Museum, by far.

The skyscraper museum had great exhibits and it was really interesting, but it should be a lot bigger.
