then babaan naman ung lightness ng ibang elements like in this
case ung yellow na shirt ni Bunso
- Tapos resize for upload then share sa net...

may CHDK hack na pala yung Canon S5 IS but i don't know if i'm gonna try it. it can make the cam shoot in RAW and it can also increase aperture and shutter speed ranges. nakaka tempt but natatakot naman ako.

^^CS3 already have an embedded lightroom for RAW file manipulation.

yeah, meron sa CS3. i bought the 2 disc at the same time kasi 1 month ago (from my neighborhood suki ;)) coz i thought i'd need both of them. both are in my laptop na nga kaso i have not tried out lightroom coz sobrang nangapa ako dati sa CS3

i'm not too keen about messing around with the software unless the file is from a legit source. vaka di ko mabalik sa dati if it turns out na di sya ok - clueless pa naman ako sa mga ganyan

Hi Ash, i don't know if this will work pero try mo na rin --> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4286

It's an add-on sa Firefox browser, so you have to download and install Firefox (if you haven't yet) it's supposed to bypass the flickr.com filter in Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, China and other banned countries and places. hope it works.

sabi nila the software is saved naman daw in your memory card so it doesn't really mess up daw with your camera's software.

ang nakakatakot lang kasi 15 seconds lang longest Tv ng camera but with CHDK, na eextend up to 64 seconds. di kaya masisira yung shutter nun? lol. ang nakakatempt nga lang kasi it can increase Av to f/2.0 from the original f/2.7(macro mode)/ f/3.2 (wide/tele). i know there's not much difference pero i think significant na yun to give me the bokeh and DOF na gusto ko.

laquacherra
June 14th, 2008, 08:07 AM
^^ wow, that's 4x longer. i don't think it will affect the shutter coz yung p&s ko nga may bulb setting. percentage-wise that's also a big increase in the aperture but i can't understand how the aperture can be increased by software - coz di va mechanical yun kung ano yung size nya? walang RAW sa p&s ko pero may TIFF and the file size huge. don't you have that and can't you use it instead?

f/2.8 zooms are heavy weights!! in price and in the literal sense  i think the lightest is still over 3-1/2 lbs!! which is why i've been leaning towards prime lenses - they're faster f/1.4 & f/1.8 and they're way lighter (sumakit nga ang shoulder ko kabibitbit ng d40x + kit lens lang ha 5 days in a row!!!). right now the 85 f/1.4 is at the top of my wish list :colgate: haaay sarap managinip

I like the simplicity of things in life and with photography, less clutter the better as far as I'm concerned.

Here is a photo of a painting inside a restaurant. I did not care for the whole painting but instead I focused more on the subjects itself, the Frenchman the wines and the grapes.

wow thanks. you made my day, honestly. :) gusto ko kasi ung crisp talaga yung pics esp kapag night shots. sa exilim kasi, you have to wait for almost a minute bago matapos ang pagkuha ng isang pic. wala pa akong tripod so mahirap talaga kasi nakaptaong lang siya sa sturdy support like garbage bin or sa sahig. imagine kung gaano kainefficient yun.

If you really like night shots mag invest ka ng tripod, since exilim ang gamit mo, kahit yung mumurahin muna and yup it takes a lot of time to shoot a good night shot. May tip ako, use your elbows and arms as an improvise tripod. Ilagay mo lang sa table or something yung elbows mo then shoot and wait. Just avoid too much moving. :D

I think may pasma ata ako or something kasi nagsheshake siya kapag tinatry ko wag gumalaw. anyway, thanks for the advice.

^^^^Brace or steady your camera with whatever you can find in the area you are photographing. I do not take my tripod or monopod when I take my photos, night or day shots, too much hassle. It has been a long time since I have used it.

Inside the restaurant like the one shot above, I used a ketchup bottle to set my camera down and I gently pushed the shutter button to take the photo of the painting.

As far as the water fountain, I really did not use anything to steady my camera but patience is a plus in photography and rushing is a big NO NO.

Goodluck!

Hello po!
Just like to share some night shots last night. :D

Please criticize this photo(s) in order to improve my night shot skills. I really like urban or rural landscape night shots as my specialty in photography someday.

Thanks! :)

The first three pictures, I have to use tungsten white balance in order to balance the seemingly over warm colors of the sodium lamps in my camera.

With regard of the first photo, I noticed the noise in the lighter section of the clouds.

maybe a lower ISO will fix that bernie. if you can adjust that on your cam. did you get a new one by the way? ISO 50 or 100 should remove unnecessary noise on night photography. composition wise: i still prefer allocating more space for the sky especially when there are interesting cloud formations (1st photo). around 1/3 for the structure/sub (2nd photo) will do. try it then let'ls see again. the last photo is a bit overexposed. but that's always the necessary compromise when trying to frame long exposure shots. when trying to take long exposure photos of lighted structures, try to set everything at min...(i.e., lowest aperture opening and lowest ISO).

hope that helps berns. interesting overall! honing na lang on composition. that's where your creativity comes in. :)

wow! love those Wimbledon shots! Sana makapanood din ako ng live match soon. by the way, you don't seem to be far off from the players (based on the depth of field of the photos). nasa front row seat ka ba?

ekspi, Marcos (chymera) is using a P&S cam and he gets splendid shots. baka naman PS (Photoshop) ang kelangan mong matutunan? :D P&S cams are not very good at night photography unless you have a brightly lit sub (e.g., HK skyline). for Makati Skyline, you need as long as 8 seconds of shutter speed para makakuha ng crisp and nice photo. praktis lang. you'll get there!

sure berns and ekspi. i enjoy night photo ops, so let's try some familiar places someday. and you need not have that bulky tripod to get cool pictures. i have one tripod, but proved to be too much for simple photo ops. so i tried finding a small one. i got a 100-peso tripod from Camerahaus (with branches in MOA and Glorietta). not as good as their bulky uncles pero the portability compensates it.

here are samples of what i got using that small tripod:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3123/2546896693_d66b3b8187_m.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2123/2519778455_0646ecc9f7_m.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3257/2520583512_8bf3a746d8_m.jpg

and here are some i got using no tripod at all. i had to place the cam on a sturdy solid support. hawakan mo lang maige baka dumulas derecho sa pasig river. and there's another tip to avoid blurred shots. use self-timer (5 or 10 seconds delay) when taking night shots. that makes a lot of difference and not everyone realizes this. the idea is to avoid movements of the cam when you push the shutter button.
from Magallanes MRT (patong lang sa pader)
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3207/2620546926_ef712d9c6d_m.jpg

from Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge (hindi flat ang surface so i have to make sure the cam's strap is tagged with me para di mahulog sa pasig river.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3255/2614198894_ac9a08faa9_m.jpg

kuha from J Rizal St sa Mandaluyong side (not the JP Rizal of Makati)
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3112/2614330496_0d0c2a26cd.jpg

for brightly lit subs, you need not have long exposures but you will be sacrificing some parts. in this case, facade of LKG is not too visible. but since i want to emphasize the crowns, i used 1 sec lang. :)
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3261/2613491257_b32be2d113.jpg

by the way, learning night photography is not that easy esp if you are weighed down by the cam's inherent limitations. (my cam, for one, does not have B(ulb)-setting). pero it's amazing and always enjoyable. imagine framing photos that the naked eye cannot see?

fireworks photography looks challenging but it's not as hard as you guys might think. good timing is the key here. you should be able to frame that shot just before the shell explodes. or for trailing comets, you should be able to shoot it before it leaves the barge. but worry not, not everyone (not even pros) get awesome fireworks shots. they also rely on what they get out of trial and errors.

skyline photography is easier imo because your subject is static. the element of timing comes in if you want to get well lit skyline. so for makati skyline, 6 - 8 pm is the best time to photoshoot. most towers put off their lights at around 830pm (e.g., Enterprise, LKG and around 11pm for Pacific Plaza of Global City). and for Rockwell, their building outlines only get lighted up from Nov to Feb, and every once in a while (siguro pag may special occasions).

just keep on clicking guys. we will eventually learn the stuff, basta lang willing to learn.

^^^I like it the way it looks especially on my computer. On my computer, the background is almost black but at my work computer screen, it has a different setting so you can see a bit of the background.

I don't care much for HDR though, it tends to lose the actual shot because of the alteration. On the photo above, I like the way the sun shines on the support pillar which caught my attention.

try to get use to aperture priority and shutter priority first before going manual. you'll get the hang of it pretty soon :)

jbkayaker12
July 19th, 2008, 09:39 PM
I stick with Aperture mode most of the time when taking daytime shots. The shutter is automatically set for the shot with the option of being able to adjust the F Stop, with night time shots I use the Manual mode. Aperture mode at nightime is not good because ambient lighting varies, with the Manual mode you have the option to adjust both the F Stop and Shutter speed. Always look at the properties on your photos and learn from it.

By the way,
Does anybody here heard about the "Cuzco Children" photo?

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b332/ashley_30303/pictureaspx.jpg

It was taken by Irving Penn during 1948. It is said that the picture was sold for 529,000 US$ in an auction held in NY last April of 2008. The most expensive photo auctioned in the history of Photography.

Anyway, nabanggit ko lang kasi gusto ko yung photo! :okay:

I just wanted to share this photo. I was able to post this a long time ago here in SSC, I just wanted to repost this, in the light of recent events.

I took this with my sumalangit nawa Sony Ericsson K700i camphone back in 2005 in Davao City. There is an option then to turn the picture into sepia mode, and so I did it.

It wasn't the expected shot that I took since its against the light and has a tendency to form a silhouette...But the color, the motion and the background has exuded something extraordinary for me, as if a message is being relayed.

I like what I do and it shows on my work, thanks. Photography and hiking a good combination. Sadly with photobucket, when photos are resized it loses its sharpness.
These were taken a couple of days ago, I love the B&W, the original photo was definitely sharper than the one I'm posting here. The color photo lost a bit of sharpness but still came out sharper than the B&W.

“My City, My Pride” Photo Contest Is On (http://www.cagayandeoro.gov.ph/?page=news&id=1368)
by Ian A. Fuentes/ City Information Office

A photo contest that will capture the soul of Cagayan de Oro and portray the city as a bustling and modern metropolis is now opened to all amateur and professional photographers.

The photo contest, dubbed as “My City, My Pride”, will basically focus on places and events in Cagayan de Oro City as captured by the photographers using either film or digital cameras, Organizer and Acting City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Imma Rae D. Gatuslao said. Top three winners in both Category A (Places) and Category B (Events) will receive a cash prize of P15,000 for the grand prize; P10,000 for the second prize and P7,500 for the third prize, Gatuslao revealed, adding that a consolation prize of P1,000 will be given to two entries per category. Each photographer can submit a maximum of five entries per category or a total of 10 pictures (in jpeg format) on or before 5 p.m. on September 29, 2008 at the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, City Hall, Cagayan de Oro City. Entries shall be in 8x12 inches in size, without borders, and must be frame-mounted on an illustration board. It should have no distinguishing marks like watermark name or signature, except writing the photographer’s name at the back of the illustration board. Digital entries are required to submit the original, unedited file of each photograph, along with the edited version of the images to be saved in a compact disc (CD) while entries taken with film shall also submit negatives. Each photo entry, including CD and/or negative, shall be placed in a tape-sealed brown envelope with the photographer’s name and his landline phone or cellular number written outside the envelope.

The prints and the CD’s submitted shall become the property of the organizer. Copyright, however, is retained by the photographer. The photos will be displayed for a week in an exhibit hall in the city. Entries will be judged based on the following criteria: composition (40%), clarity (30%) and relevance to the theme (30%). Awarding ceremony is set on October 3, 2008.

Adobe Photoshop CS2 ang gamit ko...

yup.

Speaking of Quiapo, I've been having second thoughts in buying a second hand dSLR. Which is more practical or sulit? For one, I don't have that big amount of resources and number two, I am also for the quality of the camera and its shots.

laquacherra
October 22nd, 2008, 10:38 AM
^^ i'm only familiar with Nikon. a reasonably priced good condition secondhand D80 would be a good choice IMHO. The D200 will be a better choice but it's gonna cost more than a D80. A secondhand D40, D40x or D60 will surely cost less than a D80 but you'll be limited to use the more expensive AF-S lenses.

also, i suggest you check out the prices of brand new units of the D80 and D200 because i'm pretty sure they've gone down since newer models have been released.
