Culiat August 19th, 2006, 07:52 PM Waahhhhh kakainggit si Markiiboi, I f only I could use photoshop sa PC na ito :( kasi naman limited ang access ko dito sa sarili naming PC hehe di ko tuloy ma-install mga software na kailangan ko :(, pinaghihinalaan siguro ako
c0kelitr0 August 20th, 2006, 03:51 AM hi guys. nice to know the thread is still alive. ey chymera, congratulations for the new cam. i imagine how excited i was when i got my first true "digital" cam. :D
coke, i'd trade my S2 IS for your S3 IS. And guess what, street price for S3 IS can now be as low as Php20000 if you're going to buy it in HK. Hehe...buy hey, look somewhere else. sa Hidalgo, you can buy S2 IS at around 20K. I'll recommend Canon or Sony to you. Go for S2 IS or Sony DSC H1. Price for both is now below 30K. Pag authorized dealer, you have to shell out 30K. Pero pag street price, 20K. In fact, you can buy it from the US at less than 20K na.
hidalgo? is that in quiapo?
Sinjin P. August 20th, 2006, 06:12 AM @Markii: I was just absent for a week and you've flooded this thread with spectacular images, great talent! :master:

Francis20 August 20th, 2006, 12:43 PM wow kirbs, you have an eye for patterns! keep it up man...bat ka naman paghihinalaan sa sariling mong PC?
@ coke, yes, it's in quiapo. I bought mine in Makati. But my workmate bought his DSCH1 in Hidalgo yata. You better buy one when you go to HK.
@ Sinjin, we're constantly awed by the talents of amateurs here. Magagaling sila...so ano pa inaantay m o? Get they cam and start clicking again. Yung akin nakapark lang din. Tinamad ako bigla na kumuha ng pics. I only do now when someone asks me to bring my cam.
dudz August 20th, 2006, 06:54 PM hey guys, kumusta kayo lahat! happy that you're keeping the thread active. :)
@francis: pareho tayo. ako rin, medyo nagpahinga muna. i mean, not as active. blame it on the weather, saka wala na ako maisip puntahan. usually mga events na lang nakukunan ko. also things i see on the road when we travel to and from the province. pare-pareho lang. but i look forward to aug 27. sana maganda ang panahon para makita natin at makakuha ng pics.:)
@sinjin: kahit sa house lang mike pwede ka magpractice. take photos of something (like figurines) in your house at different angles and zoom range. use effects like sepia, b/w. use some artificial lighting like flashlight with colored plastic. compare results. it' s fun! plus, it hones your skills :)
@cokelitro: fhoy, i agree with francis. sony, canon and nikon cams are the best. i also recommend the S3IS. tried it since a friend just bought one. inggit nga ako eh :hehe:. so are the sony DSCH2 and H5. nway, here are links to dpreview.com. they have in-depth reviews of almost all cameras plus sample photos. comparisons too. though infos here can be a bit overwhelming for someone like us. but a good site to familiarize yourself with the cameras.
for S3IS: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canons3is/
for DSCH2: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyh2/
saka sa quiapo, mura talaga. lower by as much as 25-30%! bought my S2 at watson's. pwede rin sa henry's. dami dun. pati accessories, mura. mga dealers din sila. cash nga lang. ingat when you go there. :)
@markiiboi: wala akong masabi, mark. superb ang mga trabaho mo! you are indeed on a different level. naiwan mo na kami ha! keep it up! dapat maglecture ka na rin:hehe: what's you're flicker account nga pala?
@culiat: nice portraits, kirby. i especially like second and fourth photos. sweet images.:)
@ishtefh: that's right, ish. very helpful talaga ang tripod. you can get the table tripod para hindi bulky. pede kahit saan. :) saka gawa na pala ang fountain sa harap ng hospital. refreshing addition. tagal ko na kasing di napupunta sa uste. what about the cancer institute? siguro malapit na ring matapos.
slerz August 20th, 2006, 07:52 PM May cam ako dito pero di sa akin...hehe
I will post again some pic pics together with sinjin, may time mag post ngayon :D...

Naks salamat master dudz. My flickr account is http://www.flickr.com/photos/MarkiiBoi . Ewan ko ba at na inlove na yata ako sa cam ko. hehehe. pero seriously, i just love what im doing, so maybe maganda (daw) yung results. so as i always say, just shoot, shoot and shoot, and learn from every shot. keep em shutters clicking. :)
terrapinoy August 21st, 2006, 03:02 AM Share ko lang. Took the train to D.C. Was fascinated with the tunnel ceiling then out came the train.

Train Arriving
dudz August 21st, 2006, 10:21 AM thanks marki for the link. galing ng imagination mo. especially yung shot mo ng reflection mo sa tubig. naisip mo 'yun?! the varied subjects also made it exciting. hindi boring. obviously you love photography, it's amazing how you can create an interesting image out of something ordinary. artist ka na talaga, mark.:okay:
@slerz: nice abstract images. still can't figure out what it is. though there appears to be a bug on the second photo. mukhang sa kusina kuha yan ah :D. really a good one, slerz.
@terrapin: interesting ceiling pattern. it's a good thing you're allowed to take photos inside train stations. here it's prohibited. that's why most photos of mrt/lrt posted here were taken hastily. suggestion lang terrapin ha. i think cropping the upper part of the photo leaving the train, tracks and half of the ceiling would look better. that would already give the viewer the ceiling pattern. or if you want an abstract, just the ceiling will do. :)
terrapinoy August 21st, 2006, 01:28 PM Salamat Master Dudz. I really appreciate your suggestions. I too was surprised that picture taking was allowed. Too bad pictures from MRT or LRT is not allowed. I'm sure it would produce some interesting Manila viewpoints.
This being Photography 101, I resubmit my photo.

Sinjin P. August 28th, 2006, 06:56 AM ^ Nice one Bondurant. I think that HDR thing works best on colourful subjects. I saw one entry in the Urban Photo Contest with a skyline and the effect was so obvious (the sky is purplish, looks fake but the photo looks good)
LordCarnal August 28th, 2006, 07:17 AM @Bondurant
what's HDR?
MarkiiBoi August 28th, 2006, 07:31 AM ^^ Repost:
Try mo pag-aralan High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDRI). Para siyang combination ng 4-7 exposures ng isang picture. If your using Photoshop CS. Meron cyang feature dun ng Merge to HDR ata under File>Automate. Im not really sure how it works cause di ko pa natatry. I saw the term sa Construction thread ng SWFC dito sa SSC din.
Example:
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3/abercromb24/HDR-16-thumb.jpg
Check this out: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/high-dynamic-range.htm
and http://www.gregdowning.com/HDRI/stitched/
Post ka ng sample works ha? :)

Ayus Bondurant :okay: Pero sana hindi gumalaw yung kamay ng relos mo.
LordCarnal August 28th, 2006, 08:16 AM ^^
that's nice. Maybe HDR would be nice if you take several exposures of a single person in different positions but on the same background. That would definitely yield something. :0
BoNduRanT August 28th, 2006, 09:45 AM ^^

I thought of this one. Kelangan ko pa cguro maghanap ng model hehehehe.
sinjin: thanks:)
MarkiiBoi:Thanks. Oo nga eh. Di ko alam kung pano patigilin. Ok na rin. Tryout pa lang naman. I need a tripod badly!!!!
LordCarnal August 28th, 2006, 04:57 PM ^^
Basta something like this. Although I used a photostitch software to create this photo. (two photos stitched together to create a panorama).
http://static.flickr.com/98/227200081_4aeb4d278d.jpg?v=0
But I doubt if it would create something like the one I posted above. For sure, overlapping several photos of the same person but in different positions in the same background would create a "ghost" effect.
MarkiiBoi August 28th, 2006, 05:06 PM ^^ Since when did you have a twin arnold?
Nice effect bai. i will try that one too now. I will post mine in a while.
LordCarnal August 28th, 2006, 05:07 PM These are photos I took three years ago using my old 35mm film SLR Camera (1970s model, hehehe).
http://static.flickr.com/92/227187013_31ccb3ecb5.jpg?v=0
http://static.flickr.com/79/227187015_7901eb9a7c.jpg?v=0
Tips for beginners using a manual 35mm SLR camera:
- Use a tripod or mount/support camera on a firm surface such as a tree, wall, etc..
- Manually set focus to infinity
- Adjust aperture too to avoid overexposure
- Set exposure to bulb setting (usually signified by "B" in most older cameras)
- Once ready, press shutter and hold on to it for a few seconds so that shutter will remain open to record multiple burst of fireworks (the pictures above were taken with a 5-seconds exposure). Better also if you would use a "cable-release" so as to prevent camera shake. Just research what a cable release is.
- The tips above may also be used to record streaks of vehicle lights at night.
- For the photos above, if I remembered it right, the settings were ISO 100 (Kodak film), f5 for aperture, "B" for exposure. The lens was at 210mm.
LordCarnal August 28th, 2006, 05:13 PM ^^ Since when did you have a twin arnold?
Nice effect bai. i will try that one too now. I will post mine in a while.
Haha, I think you didn't notice (or you forgot) that panorama (stitched) photo of the transcentral highway during the second outing. Slerz was in every segment of the picture, thus the stitched photo featured "three" Slerzs in different positions.

Kirbs, in fact, i like this among your Bug Series. Hehehe...i missed your installments ng mga photos mo. What you can do to improve above photo is to focus on the person rather than on the background. it will create a more dramatic feel. don't be too far away from the subject too avoid blurred background. but of course you can try anything.

From the looks of it, the curbside vendors take their merchandise at night and comes back again the following day to set up their merchandise. If Im not mistaken, at night the area is free and clear of any vendors so it is a warning for would be vandals not to urinate in the area. :)

"Visual Feast"
Great talents guys, thanks for sharing your photos. I may not have been posting here but I'm continuing to hone my skills by clicking and clicking and clicking. The results are still disappointing though but I'll still continue practicing. :okay:
IAMME September 10th, 2006, 04:31 AM I got some prolem with my camera (Kodak CX7330). It names the pics in this format 100_0000. However it's gone past 100_9999 and started naming them 101_0000. But when I copied all the pics to my computer and deleted all the pics in the cam, it started naming them 100_0000 again! So I'm having duplicate filenames in my photo collection now. I there a way to tell my cam to just continue with 101_0000 all the way to 999_9999? Thankz!
MarkiiBoi September 10th, 2006, 09:41 AM ^ Check out your camera's settings. Maybe the numbering will continue if you will not erase the pictures in your camera. Or better yet, just separate your pictures in different folders according to the date or occasion that they were taken. Same file names but different folders.

Thanks, however, there will come a time where you eventually have to delete pictures. It's really different if each pic you took has a unique filename. I'm currently using Adobe Bridge to manually rename the pics so they create a continuous series. It's quite tedious though. Thanks again.

Francis20 November 5th, 2006, 02:36 PM @ dizflip, i thought i was looking at makati skyline on your 2nd photo. there's something similar to Shang Tower. I always liked the wormviews, so i like your space needle shot! Seattle is looking good, and skyline keeps on getting dense. look at those 3 cranes. something you can do to improve the last photo, crop it such that only the couples on the bench and skyline are included. only my suggestion. otherwise, it still looks great! can we have something like that sa manila bay?
@ jhaelnis...both photos are overexposed, only that one is more exposed than the other. you really don't have to use night more if your aiming for a lighted subject. try this and tell us the result: take the same subject using the daylight settings. you will be amazed with the result. there's no need for a slow shutter speed here. now if you have Tyronne's subject in your front, then go for the setting you just used for your shots (i.e., 8 seconds, or around that).
Tyronne, are these your first few attempts to oust Dudz? :D nice shots. kinda overexposed din yun first frame but it created good effect. in fact, most people would not consider it overexposed! have you broke up with your gf and opted for the cam instead? hehe...@ xp, para ka talagang taga UP magsalita. hehe...i assume you joined several street demos sa Diliman. yeah?

1 km is long na din! considering that manila has none.

ok, just open Photoshop and look for the crop tool.
http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/2221/croptooljg0.jpg
click it to choose. click and hold on the part of the picture that you want to retain by creating a crop border (the area to be cropped away will be the darkened area.
double-click anywhere inside the crop border.
then save your photo. that's it:D
bagel November 6th, 2006, 07:43 AM I already posted this in the photo album thread. But I thought I'd post it here for some crit. It's pretty much as it was... The camera speed was slowed down a little bit to fuzz up the focus, especially since the riders were just beginning to ride. I like the movement on the upper part of the photo-- makes the action look frenetic. The only post-processing I did was to raise the color saturation so the movement would be made more prominent and so that the yellows and red have more pop.

markii, thanks for the info. and since it's from National Geographic, expect high caliber photos from their photogtaphers. we had one Natl Geographic photographer, or maybe the first one...met him during a photo class and he did great stuff. some of his works, in fact, look very familiar to me. must have been used on ADs.
Francis20 November 7th, 2006, 10:29 AM @ dizflip, that was just a suggestion. so are they filipinos? i guess you better let them be on frame then remove that couple on the bench. just remove them by erasing them from the photo...don't crop. hehe...now tyronne will have to spend more time teaching you Photoshop techniques, right ka Ty? so her name is Sonya! :) Is she is DSC H1 or H2 model? must have great body eh? :D Sorry if you mentioned it already somewhere, but i for sure have missed that post. Haha... I'll be glad to look at any bike. All my bikes are broken or unuseable right now. Anyway, yeah I'm trying to develop a photo vocabulary for abstraction of repeating patterns. That's why I'm very much interested in fuzziness rather than clarity. It's not so much the subject I'm interested in, rather, the effect. When I did the bicycles, I wasn't really interested in the actual biking, but rather the intersecting circles and the speed that they moved in, so I really wanted to blur them. That's why I think if I pulled the shot out more, it wouldn't work too much... too much context.
Still working at it... I like motion photography a lot-- making something look like it's moving. And I also like decontextualizing subjects.

Normal night shot setting lang, I think 5secs on 2.8something ata yung setting. Thats a day before the last full moon, tapos cloudy pa ang sky. I took a shot around 7PM and it turned out good. Enhanced yung blue sa photoshop saka konting adjustment sa brightness and contrast and voila. Nakalapag yung camera sa sahig for that shot  Wala tripod eh dapat by christmas makabili na ko :)

Hehe, yeah they're filipinos. It was weird when I first got off the car and stepping out into CANADA for the first time. The suburbs in which my relatives live and where we stayed looked so much like a normal filipino suburb. tyronne November 27th, 2006, 08:18 AM it was raining here in san francisco today so i wasn't able to play tennis. i, instead, went out to take some photos although i wasn't sure if it was a good idea to take pictures during the rain. at some point, the rain stopped and look what i came up with: :D

it's so hard to take a sunset photo like the one above here in SF coz we seldom get these kinds of cloud formations that add drama to the picture. that's why i'm so glad with this one hehe!
i hope you guys like it:)
