Is it possible to create a "worm's view" effect on a p&s camera?

I can't view some pictures here. I don't know if worm's view is really the term, but I'm looking for something like this:

Gerald, are you referring to the fish-eye view? or the wide angle view? :D worm view, fish view, bird's eye view. kakatuwa talaga ang photography.
ate lili, galing ng photo mo. another willing sub. it's a picture pecfect.
did you use the automatic setting? medyo di ko lang po makuha how you come up with a blurred butterfly and clear smiling face. :D but it came out nice, don't worry. I'm just contemplating how would it be like if you blurred the child a bit instead. kaso the kid will not be willing to have the photo printed out for him just in case. Hehe...

erald™;11789338']Is it possible to create a "worm's view" effect on a p&s camera?

the answer is yes. if you mean WORM VIEW. But if you mean wide-angle view, it's not possible. unless the cam has features where you can attach wide-angle lens. common among SLR and prosumer cams. not with P&S. I'm looking for a sample in my files.

After reading all those negative comments from SSCers, nadismaya sa kanyang purchase then never attempted to read anything at the forum since then. Sad...Hehe...If only we can be that effective to make Ayala build Ayala Towers 2 and 3 or for Ganzon to build Skycity, eh di sana masaya.

im an aspiring photographer but i dont have the equipment of such to produce such images. YET. Im still in high-school so maybe thats an excuse lol (broke)... well, here's just a couple of pics that i wanna share taken with my (i dont even know its name) digital camera that is now broken...

hello there eric. since the photo says it's eric, i'll call you with that name. and since it says photography, i assume you've been into it for quite some time already. :D and hey, i like the way you played with light. makes me think you're a good photographer. :banana: i prefer to play with my cam without using the flash. the outcomes are very natural and amazing.

just an observation tho...personal preferrence perhaps. i prefer not tilting the horizon. so intead of tilting your frame, you can move backwards, if there's still a room...then click. the outcome will be equally amazing. :okay:

galeng @francis20... thanks for sharing the photos as examples of your tips . Mas naiintindihan ko na, medyo "slow" kasi ako sa written instructions, pero pag may pics that go with it, it definitely makes my like simpler. :lol:
Now, i'm excited to practice it, just have to find a willing subject.

:banana: hehe...on with the scouting po.
my examples are not the perfect ones. they just came close to the directives i heard of. it feels great to know they served the purpose. :)

Are we still on portraits? I was wondering if it is okay to reverse the effect when I made the background which is the beautiful smiling face of the boy clearer than the butterfly (which might be a bit eerie). He was happily showing off his catch and then released the butterfly again in the air. It was random. No posing. I posted this picture before. Please comment.

Francis20
February 18th, 2007, 01:36 PM
i don't think so Gerald. the reason is, the lens barrel is not long enought for you to mount the fish-eye view lens. that's what i know. it's only possible among DSLRs/SLRs and prosumer cams.

^ Thanks for your comments @Francis. Even if I don't contribute much here, I look at the pictures and read the comments of the people here. I am becoming an eager photography student/ viewer. I used to be lazy. I have another bigger camera that I find cumbersome to carry with me but I am finally getting into the momentum of taking snapshots of both spontaneous and deliberate moments.

here are some positions you might want your sub to do when you are taking photo of him/her.

Of HER:

Let her stand straight, position his body around 15 degrees away from the cam, advance one of his feet, put palms on her waist, raise the shoulder that's nearest to you, then flash that killer smile...then CLICK. Picture perfect. Works for all faces.

word of caution though: notice her hands? gurls will most likely position the back of their palm against the cam. the result is a big big hand on your frame. the solution? - make her tilt his fingers a bit then let her show only the phalanges/digits or metatarsals part (i think all those mean the same?).

OKay... my attempt on the assignment! :D

I tried to tell her the right positioning but it didn't come out as what I imagine it to be so I gave up and ended up saying "Oh sige bahala kana sa gusto mong position" :lol:

Tagal ko din di nakabisita sa thread na to. dami na palang discussions.

@Ashley, in your first photo, masyadong maliwanag yung background mo and tama ka medyo malaki nga ang pagkakahiwalay ng legs nya.

Punta ako with my friends. Dun madami tayong makukunan, maybe we can set yung sinusuggest ni weirdo dun.

Nakita ko last night yung light expo on my way home from Cavite.

wynngd. madaya ka naman. akala ko you will keep this thread alive. :D ok ang result ng telephoto cam mo. kaso your photos will tend to be blurry dahil sa taas ng focal length. lalo na't mobile ang subject. lapit ka na lang kasi. nahiya ka pa yata. :D

^^ I am using Nikon D50 DSLR Camera right now, Since It's only my hobby wala akong plan bumili ng DSLR like Nikon D200 or Canon 30D.

Francis20
February 23rd, 2007, 09:00 PM
hey guys. nice to see more posters here. before i retire to be, let me give some comments on the posted photos.

Wynn, your photo is superb. captured na captured ang emotion. masaya siyempre. what did you have in mind when you took the photo by the way? i assume you have one in mind.

oh, by the way, if you use automatic settings for beach shots, it's more likely than not that the outsome will be a dark skin tone. this will be hard to repair at photoshop. your background will be overexposed if you try to adjust the brightness of your sub's skin. try taking people shots on pools and you'll get the same result. i actually don't know the solution for this one. anyone who knows, please do share. my only solution for this is to use flash. or use manual mode, then use shutter speeds slower than 1/500 of a sec. maybe 1/60. well, that's an amateurish suggestion from me. hehe...

@ Isaric, too bad your cam broke before you can post a lot of photos here at the thread. anyway. sabi nga ni ate Lili, thoughtful ang mga photos. Sentimental ka ba? Hehe...?And sweet siguro. You did any color adjustments? The sky on the 2nd photo looks a bit off the natural color to me. But the composition is well done. The 3rd photo is overexposed. Blame the street light. :D The sub's face details were lost. But as usual, there's something about the composition that would make you like the photo. Your Kiss shot is a macro shot? or was that the real size? I'd say you don't qualify on the amateur division. Hehe...Ok ang mga photos mo.

gabi? if you mean outdoors, naninita sila. lalo na kung napansin nila na you are there solely for that purpose. so better be cautious. dapat pasimple lang. kunwari kumakain, or tinitignan mo lang cam mo. click ka na pala ng click. better if you have the vari-angle type viewfinder.

sa ibang bansa bawal kumuha sa loob ng malls...pero sa labas pwedeng pwede. baliktad ata dito. nahuli na ako dati nung kumuha ako ng shots in a daytime when it was a holiday. walang tao kasi kaya kitang kita. what an experience. but it was fun! :lol:

In a worst case scenario, if they want to delete the pictures, go ahead and delete... there is now an UNDELETE software to retrieve recently deleted files.

I believe the software is called, recover my files

[QUOTE=thomasian;10652278]My tips naman:

6.) To make sure that you're pics won't get deleted when caught, discreetly slide the memory card out of the camera sabak suksok sa kung saan man pwedeng isuksok kahit pa "down there" :jk:, that way when the security personnel checks on your cam, there won't be any evidence that they can delete.

Francis20
February 25th, 2007, 12:27 PM
very right. pipituhan ka talaga. now you have to take advantage of the fact that most of our brave guards are changing posts or areas every certain period of time. most of them are new to an area and do not know the whatabouts. you have to take caution tho. you know these MACEA guys? they're just roving around and they don't usually change AORs. so don't make yourself conspicuous. they will ask you if you have the permission. you will be compelled to ask: from whom? they'll say from the building admin of the building you are taking photo of? kelan pa nagbigay ng permission ang mga buildings? for me, it's a public structure and having it photographed by anyone should be a given fact already. alangan namang itago nila ang RCBC sa tarpaulin?

one time, on an early morning walk, me nakita akong nagbebenta ng...ano ba yung soya milk na white na binebenta sa street? grr...yun. so while waiting for my change, i took several shots of Enterprise and ATO.

@[G]erald™

heres my 2 cents:

1. the 1/13s speed setting of your canon ixus 900ti was too slow and made this shot soft. try adjusting the iso or use manual settings

2. the subject look small and short because the background is more dominant

3. contrast is low thus the image is almost flat

3. try some image basics: contrast, composition (in case of portraits, try to make subject dominate the frame), sharpness (face should be sharp), color, drama & cropping

Isn't raising the ISO makes the image "noisy"? Haven't tried using iso 800 and up though. Tsaka what do you mean "flat"?

I was experimenting during our prom, lol. Thanks for the advice. :)

Did you sue curve or shadow and higlighting?

@Gerald, that is true for point and shoot Camera and SLR like Cam (except for Sony R10). Kasi maliit ang sensors ng mga point and shoot, kaya mas prone sya sa noise. not like SLR Camera with bigger sensors. Kund ayaw mong taasan ISO, ddapat may tripod ka and make sure di gagalaw ang subject mo within that 1/13 of a sec.

Ash, ok ang mga portraits mo. tho di nga ganun yung sinasabi ko na direction pero ok pa rin naman. and the good thing about your photos is...very cooperative ang mga sub. san ka pa ba makakakita ng kagaya nila. maganda na, willing pa. (mag pose) :D

Thanks Francis!

@Ashley, in your first photo, masyadong maliwanag yung background mo and tama ka medyo malaki nga ang pagkakahiwalay ng legs nya. Phot No. 2, maganda po yung angle ng shot mo. IMO, it will look better kung crop mo ng konti yung lower part ng photo and konti sa left and right.

I have another pic, same position but this one is closer:

Nice shots Ash...
Anyway, last night, while spending a nice quiet evening with a friend over some wine. I happen to look up the sky and noticed the moon through the bare branches of a tree in my front porch. I remembered seeing a pic of the same composition from Ash, and got excited. I decided to take out my camera and start playing around with it. I was being a little ambitious to try to duplicate such fete, at any rate, i just decided that it was worth the try to start playing around with the MANUAL mode too. So here are the results.

@ Ashely, I love your shots, yung makulit na Angel and yung photo 1 and 2 mo with the red couch (tama ba?). I already took the liberty to do some minor changes (post processing) sa mga photos mo (sana di ka magalit :)). I think you shots the last 3 photos without a tripod then naka turn-off yung flash, kasi yung photo 1 mo and 2 medyo di sya ganun ka sharp. You got a good Camera (Nikon D40) and I think napilitan kang i adjust sa ISO 1600 para mas mabilis yung shutter mo. My suggestion po is magwork ka at 800 and below para maiwasan yung noise sa phot htough maganda naman response ng D40 sa noise at high ISO. Eto yung mga pics na ineedit ko. I cropped and adjust the levels, brightness and contrast and use USM (UnSharp Mask) para maging sharp yung ibang kuha.

About photo processing, down kasi yung PCS ko and I need to buy the software again kay hindi ko rin ma-edit yung ibang pics ko. But I usually do photo processing lalo na to reduce the noise or make the picture sharp. :D

Anyway, thanks for the comments again and for the tips :okay:

hello there again guys. portraits are pouring in! hey anthony's, finally posting his portraits. i know you have several na kuha kasama mga kapatid mo. and these ones are not even the best ones.

ash and wynn...post away folks. it helps talaga pag me illustration by using the frame itself. wynn, nasan ka duon sa photo?

I love the colors. Very intense! And Jamaicus? That was fun tho. No offense. Hope he'll be back posting. Let's just live with everybody's hang-ups.

hey Gerald (TM). you did any photoshopping? nice composition there. it's only a matter of placing your sub on the right part of the frame. you need not put her at the dead center. you know what i mean...right? overall, it's a good start. can you let her wear that same dress and pose before you again? i thought you will be posting makati night shots. :D

sir Greg...i wonder what settings were used on your manual photo na fave din ni ash. i'd have a hard time choosing the right shutter speed-aperture combination for that. and you did it just right. now you have to remember what those settings were. and hey look...your niece is starting to learn the SSC way of posing, just like what we've been talking on the previous pages. :D

No photoshop here, don't know how to use it, hehe. Sure, I can ask her to wear the same dress again.

The photo we're talking about is supposed to be shot at Makati, specifically in the Greenbelt vicinity and the area with GT Tower and RCBC Plaza (what is it??) but she got worried that a security guard would stop us from doing so. And it looks dangerous on the latter at night.

my first reaction: what on earth? hehehe...you've waited there for 69 secs? and why of all times, 69 pa not 70 or 68? :D hehe...sorry po, hyper ako ngayon. kasi masakit balat ko, at naging nognog ako dahil sa pagswimming sa anilao, batangas. anyway po...it need not take that lonnnnggg...to get the same effect. you can do it in less than 30 sec. just decrease your aperture setting (translation: increase the camera's aperture opening, example, f/1.8). pero at least nakuha naman po ng ayos. guess what po...i have a good news for you...koya greg. you can take interesting moon shots. if you are diligent and patient enough.

since your cam is capable of B (bulb) setting, (please correct me if i'm wrong), then you can take one frame with multiple exposures. however, di ako masyadong maalam sa ganun. yung tipong isang shot kuha yung movement ng moon? ok yun. gusto niyo po ba sunod nating topic ay night shots or mag portrait portraits muna tayo? :)

not a problem ash. you remember some of my fireworks shots? they were taken sans the tripod. pano di kami nagkita ng me hawak ng tripod ko sa dame ng tao. all you need is a sturdy support...can be the ground, a book, baso...etc. :) and hey, this one will not take 69 seconds. :D

^^ ah ok yan pag crush mo yung magpapaturo. kahit pa kamo siya gawin mong model or vice versa. dalhin mo nga dun sa di karamihang tao then sabihin mo...in photo sessions, the surrounding should be serene at di gaano ang tao. :D

Magaling lang siguro mag timing si Gregg (tama ba) for this 69 sec exposure.

hindi yata. better be on a group. pag mag-isa ka dapat hindi halata na me cam. or better yet, take photos from safe places yet vantage points like on top of towers. try citibank rooftop. kaso limited lang view. or City Garden Hotel. Kaso mahal. :D

lam mo steph, marami akong workmates na ganyan. have you been asked to help them out pano gamitin ang mga cam nila? one of my workmates ask me for a photo lesson. pero malay ko baka me gusto lang sa kin yun. hehe...siyempre one on one kaya kayo pag magtuturuan kayo. hehe....joke lang po, nakakahiya ako pag nalaman niya yo. yung isa naman me point-and-shoot cam, gusto daw paturo. wala naman sigurong gusto yun sa kin, kasi kalalakeng tao. kaso di ko alam pano sila tuturuan. specially for ones who have point-and-shoot cams. sinimulan ko nga sa aperture and shutter speed. :nuts:

hehe... minsan, pero i think im not a good teacher, minsan kase naiirita ako sa mga taong tanong ng tanong eh... experiment nyo nal ang... hehe... :D

hehe...just kidding there bro. oh so you mean you were supposed to take shot of her where the skyscrapers are visible? wow naman. that'd be nice. i've seen several stuff like that sa mag. gawin niyo na lang kaya sa rooftop ng isang building? if you've not done any photoshopping on your photo, then it came out nice Gerald. ok yung contract ng colors, pero medyo na blurred ang sub natin. and again, you need not put her at the very centre. you can try putting him dun sa first 1/3 part of your frame.

very nice capture Ty! This is not an easy shot. I somewhat agree with Francis. Did you try a faster shutter or a smaller apperture shot on this? What Camera are you using?

Suggestion ko lang po is to crop ng konti yung sky. It's too dominating in the photo and since Pano naman tong shot mo mas magiging ok syang tingnan.

Since long exposure ang samples na nakita ko. bigay na din po akong long exposure shot ko pero di sya portrait. I can consider it as a still life photography but ang purpose talaga nito is for my friends business. He asked me to shot his coffee business para gamitin nya sa business nya.

shutter: 25sec

and yung photo po ni ty is an hdr image. and i don't think the photo is overexposed. and for me ok na yung photo ni ty kahit hindi na i crop. the sky adds a dramatic effect to the bright cityscape. check nyo flickr ni ty kasi maraming siyang magagandang hdr photos.

@Jan: Actually, the one above is not an HDR.

@Wynngd: I'm using a Sony DSC-H2 and the aperture size range is from 2.8 to 8. So that means I used the biggest aperture size, tama ba?

Pero I think tama kayo ni Wynngd, I've included too much of it.

lol. luku-luko ka tyronne. it's all right to include much of the sky specially kung me cloud formations. in fact, it's encouraged sa mga landcape photos to include as much sky as possible. but if it's a dull sky, then forget it. :)

hi Wyn, doesn't look so obvious na long exposure yung coffee shot mo. but it's very nice. i like the mood there! were you paid for that? :D

Actually, this is one of my techniques in photography. I set the aperture to its smallest opening (F/32) and use a medium source of light like penlight or flashlight (harangan mo na lang ng white cloth). It's like painting with light.

wala nga eh...

Ah ok, that explaines ung medyo grainy na sky. I tried to do that shot in Chicago as well using my late kodak Z7590 and the result is a grainy sky. I think dahil sa sensor. Maliit kasi sensor ng SLR-like Cam so di ganun kaganda responsed nila sa light versus DSLR.

http://www.bytephoto.com/photopost/data/747/7037100_4420e2s-med.jpg

Sa aperture naman I prefer using small aperture meaning small yung opening nya. Wide aperture para sa malaking aperture opening.

Launch of Space Shuttle Endeavour from Pad 39B on mission STS-97. This is a five minute exposure taken from the Causeway (about 7 miles away from the pad). Taken with a borrowed all-manual Nikomat camera, 24 mm lens, f/16, Kodak Royal Gold 100 film. When the exposure was stopped in this shot, the shuttle was approximately 229 statute miles downrange.

:cheers2:

sa iba rin, keep up the good work. dami ng magagaling dito sa SSC! :cheers:

Nice ty! :okay: BTW, is this photoshopped? hehe baka kasi maganda lang yung lighting kaya ganyan yuing effect. :D

Yes, definitely photoshopped:D I changed the contrast thus the green lighting :)

by the way ka-tyronne, while having my brunch this morning, i noticed my placemat (given by a friend) with San Francisco aerial with golden bridge on the background. Where were you when you took that photo? Elevated ba?

Yes, I was on an elevated place. Actually, I took it from the Telegraph Hill where the Coit Tower (http://img338.imageshack.us/my.php?image=coittowerfromrussia0002hc5.jpg) is--another San Francisco landmark. :)

tyronne, you mean the photos was taken from the hill? how far away from the CBD? you did great on the depth of field there. i once say an awesome SF pano (360 degress) back when SSC was still WSF. I saved it and meron pa ata ako til now.

meron pa ba tayong mga bagong long exposure shots diyan? i don't usually get good results pag long exposure sa prosumer cam ko. dun lang sa SLR ok ang result. kaso nasa tatay ko. gusto niyo na ng about fireworks? i will post some pointers over the weekend. but if you're too excited to know...:D you can look up at the net for the pointers. this is one exciting subject that everyone of us wants to capture.

Ngek! That's not gonna happen, Sir Dudz hehe I'm still a novice and you guys are my inspirations it's happening ty. believe it or not :hehe: no seriously, ang bilis ng improvement mo, ty. basing from your photos in flickr, one wouldn't think that you're a novice. though post processing helps, the basic elements are there in your photos. :) :okay:

:D. visita iglesia? di ka nga pala catholic, ano francis. nway, eto...visita from the word 'visit', tama ba? hehe, iglesia is church or the catholic church. kaya ang visita iglesia ay pagdalaw o pagbisita sa mga simbahan. usually seven churches, can be more in a day. it's a catholic tradition/practice during holy week. ayos ba sir? :D

@Sista,
Anyway, the size is too big so I'm having a hard time viewing the whole composition. I think if you try making the pics smaller the noise(?) will be less obvious. But of all, I like the first one.

@Bondurant,
Funny, my last photo shoots were more of the sunsets. Ganda nung lugar. :okay: I also like the details of your lampshade.

The Photographer’s Right
Bert P. Krages II, Attorney at Law

About this Guide
Confrontations that impair the constitutional right to make images are becoming more common. To fight the abuse of your right to free expression, you need to know your rights to take photographs and the remedies available if your rights are infringed.

The General Rule
The general rule in the United States is that anyone may take photographs of whatever they want when they are in a public place or places where they have permission to take photographs. Absent a specific legal prohibition such as a statute or ordinance, you are legally entitled to take photographs. Examples of places that are traditionally considered public are streets, sidewalks, and public parks. Property owners may legally prohibit photography on their premises but have no right to prohibit others from photographing their property from other locations. Whether you need permission from property owners to take photographs while on their premises depends on the circumstances. In most places, you may reasonably assume that taking photographs is allowed and that you do not need explicit permission. However, this is a judgment call and you should request permission when the circumstances suggest that the owner is likely to object. In any case, when a property owner tells you not to take photographs while on the premises, you are legally obligated to honor the request.

Some Exceptions to the Rule
There are some exceptions to the general rule. A significant one is that commanders of military installations can prohibit photographs of specific areas when they deem it necessary to protect national security. The U.S. Department of Energy can also prohibit photography of designated nuclear facilities although the publicly visible areas of nuclear facilities are usually not designated as such. Members of the public have a very limited scope of privacy rights when they are in public places. Basically, anyone can be photographed without their consent except when they have secluded themselves in places where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy such as dressing rooms, restrooms, medical facilities, and inside their homes.

Permissible Subjects
Despite misconceptions to the contrary, the following subjects can almost always be photographed lawfully from public places:

* accident and fire scenes

* children

* celebrities

* bridges and other infrastructure

* residential and commercial buildings

* industrial facilities and public utilities

* transportation facilities (e.g., airports)

* Superfund sites

* criminal activities

* law enforcement officers

Who Is Likely to Violate Your Rights
Most confrontations are started by security guards and employees of organizations who fear photography. The most common reason given is security but often such persons have no articulated reason. Security is rarely a legitimate reason for restricting photography. Taking a photograph is not a terrorist act nor can a business legitimately assert that taking a photograph of a subject in public view infringes on its trade secrets. On occasion, law enforcement officers may object to photography but most understand that people have the right to take photographs and do not interfere with photographers. They do have the right to keep you away from areas where you may impede their activities or endanger safety. However, they do not have the legal right to prohibit you from taking photographs from other locations. They Have Limited Rights to Bother, Question, or Detain You Although anyone has the right to approach a person in a public place and ask questions, persistent and unwanted conduct done without a legitimate purpose is a crime in many states if it causes serious annoyance. You are under no obligation to explain the purpose of your photography nor do you have to disclose your identity except in states that require it upon request by a law enforcement officer. If the conduct goes beyond mere questioning, all states have laws that make coercion and harassment criminal offenses. The specific elements vary among the states but in general it is unlawful for anyone to instill a fear that they may injure you, damage or take your property, or falsely accuse you of a crime just because you are taking photographs. Private parties have very limited rights to detain you against your will and may be subject to criminal and civil charges should they attempt to do so. Although the laws in most states authorize citizen’s arrests, such authority is very narrow. In general, citizen’s arrests can be made only for felonies or crimes committed in the person’s presence. Failure to abide by these requirements usually means that the person is liable for a tort such as false imprisonment.

They Have No Right to Confiscate Your Film
Sometimes agents acting for entities such as owners of industrial plants and shopping malls may ask you to hand over your film. Absent a court order, private parties have no right to confiscate your film. Taking your film directly or indirectly by threatening to use force or call a law enforcement agency can constitute criminal offenses such as theft and coercion. It can likewise constitute a civil tort such as conversion. Law enforcement officers may have the authority to seize film when making an arrest but otherwise must obtain a court order.

Your Legal Remedies If Harassed
If someone has threatened, intimidated, or detained you because you were taking photographs, they may be liable for crimes such as kidnapping, coercion, and theft. In such cases, you should report them to the police. You may also have civil remedies against such persons and their employers. The torts for which you may be entitled to compensation include assault, conversion, false imprisonment, and violation of your constitutional rights.

Other Remedies If Harassed
If you are disinclined to take legal action, there are still things you can do that contribute to protecting the right to take photographs.

* Call the local newspaper and see if they are interested in running a story. Many newspapers feel that civil liberties are worthy of serious coverage.

* Write to or call the supervisor of the person involved, or the legal or public relations department of the entity, and complain about the event.

* Make the event publicly known on an Internet forum that deals with photography or civil rights issues.

How to Handle Confrontations
Most confrontations can be defused by being courteous and respectful. If the party becomes pushy, combative, or unreasonably hostile, consider calling the police. Above all, use good judgment and don’t allow an event to escalate into violence. In the event you are threatened with detention or asked to surrender your film, asking the following questions can help ensure that you will have the evidence to enforce your legal rights:

1. What is the person’s name?
2. Who is their employer?
3. Are you free to leave? If not, how do they intend to stop you if you decide to leave? What legal basis do they assert for the detention?
4. Likewise, if they demand your film, what legal basis do they assert for the confiscation?

Disclaimer
This is a general education guide about the right to take photographs and is necessarily limited in scope. For more information about the laws that affect photography, I refer you to the second edition of my book, Legal Handbook for Photographers (Amherst Media, 2006). This guide is not intended to be legal advice nor does it create an attorney client relationship. Readers should seek the advice of a competent attorney when they need legal advice regarding a specific situation.

great pics everyone. :cheers:

anyone here into toy cameras? lomo is very popular again these past few years. a lot of photogs, even pros, with good dslrs experiment with lomo.

i sort of prefer holga, esp the woca. and i'm saving up for one. is it worth it? cos they use film, meaning, taking advantage of the pure potential of the cam is gonna be more expensive. film for holga isn't the usual one so going to quiapo every time a roll is consumed can be a hassle. guess i've been crippled by the convenience of the digital age.

aside from the artsy, edgy, oldschool feel of toy cam photos and the element of surprise that comes with film, what can be the other pros? and what are the setbacks aside from having to shell out more money for buying and processing film and printing, and to give some extra effort for the whole process from purchasing down to scanning and adjusting in photoshop to resemble the actual colors and contrasts?

Philippine Airlines First Photo Contest (http://www.palphotocontest.com/)

The 1st Philippine Airlines Photo Contest is now set to be the most prestigious photography event in the country this year. The project presenters – Philippine Airlines , Eastgate Publishing Corp, and Oneworkshop, Inc. – formally inked the merger on May 2, 2007 at the Philippine Airlines Office, Makati City. The four signatories are PAL’s President & Chief Operating Officer - Jaime J. Bautista; Rolando Estabillo, PAL’s Vice President for Corporate Communications; Eastgate Publishing Corp.’s Simeon S. Ventura, Jr. – President; and OneWorkshop, Inc.’s Rossano Capili – President.

With this year’s theme: The Beauty of the Philippines, the event aims to widely promote the country’s ecotourism. It is the only photo contest that welcomes all amateurs, professionals, and children alike to participate in the competition – taking photography into a diverse perspective. With the Children’s Category, a first in the country, the event aims to encourage and nurture the talents of the youth. Over a milllion in total of prizes and travel benefits, and loads of freebies await the lucky winners; all from the project’s generous sponsors.The event is, by far, the biggest in the history of Philippine photography – with running events the entire year after its formal launch on June 15, 2007.

There will be touring Trade and Photo Exhibit for partner and major sponsors , free Photo Clinics to be conducted by noted Photographers in the months of June and July in all SM Supermalls (still finalizing details) around the country; a grand awarding ceremony in August; and the traveling exhibit of the contest’s Top 50 entries from September to February 2008. As one of the event’s partners, SM Supermalls will be housing the trade shows and traveling exhibits nationwide in the following SM Malls – Iloilo, Cebu, Davao, Bacolod, Baguio, and the Mall of Asia in Manila. All activities will be featured and supported by the project’s media partners via radio, TV newspaper dailies, and glossy magazines all throughout the event duration. The official website will feature all activity updates, partners, and sponsors.

The 1st Philippine Airlines Photo Contest is for the benefit of the Philippine Airlines Foundation’s Ecotourism Projects.This event is in partnership with EPSON and SM Supermalls. More major sponsors will be joining the roster very soon.
