Yung horse back ride to the crater cost 500pesos. Yung mga naninirahan eh yung pagguguide sa turista ang pinagkakakitaan. Sinjin P. In my opinion, you need to always put your subject a little off-center. Use the rule of third except for a situation that composing is time limited. I also suggest to use faster shutter speed ~1/500 to freeze the action. But based on the setting in your camera: F/5.6, 200mm, ISO 800, 1/125, this event is done at night or it's not a sunny day. Photos 2 and 4 will look great if you were able to freeze the ball. You got a good camera. Nikon D40 has a good Noise control over high ISO. portludlow August 20th, 2007, 06:10 AM ^^ Thanks @Wynngd,....I took the pictures at night time and around 100 m away. Post some of your work here!:) thnx for the reply terrapin, well, im not really a photographer in the real sense, im a designer/graphic artist for a certain RTW brand, we use to hire a commercial photographer, but a year ago we decided to do things ourselves. we use the cam for pictorials and product shoots for our catalogues and poster ads tarps etc. then i do the editing layouts and stuffs like that. dati gamit namin Canon EOS 30D kaso ang bigat not good for shooting a couple of thousand pics in a day (makukuba ka dito), so we switched to the fuji cam. tried shooting outdoors, since hindi controlled ang environment naghahabol ako ng araw, di naman pede tanghali, d best to shoot kasi is in the morning and late afternoon para may drama. post some works here? pede ba indoors portrait d2? thomasian September 6th, 2007, 01:48 AM ^^ Wow, I hope to see some fashion shoots here, it seems like we've pretty much covered a lot of topics before but not that one. :okay: SideWinderX September 6th, 2007, 03:34 AM hope na pwede rito ang fashion pix http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b91/ricafort/nadine.jpg terrapinoy September 6th, 2007, 03:51 AM :okay: :applause: :applause: Great job @SideWinderx! It's the photographer, not the camera, that makes the picture." "2. Find what fits your hand; they all work, but they may not all work for you." "3. You will have different camera bodies; you're really buying lens." Some have even suggested that since camera bodies are always improving that DSLR bodies are disposable and its the lens that ultimately sticks with you. paulkrps September 21st, 2007, 10:58 AM a big agree on the above. j-pol September 22nd, 2007, 07:30 AM Nice photos. I have yet to try one. :D funny what you guys think about pentax. check this out before making conclusions... http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/home#section=HOME&subSection=0&subSubSection=0&language=EN it's all in the photographer. paulkrps September 22nd, 2007, 01:09 PM nice site j-pol. i assume these guys are pros. and nice flickr site too. just to clear up a bit. cameras are just tools. anybody can use a camera, but not all can see anything with a photographer's/artist eye. it's in the seeing. it's in the composing. it's trying to use the camera and it's features to capture "the moment". i am using olympus and i find it ok. in fact i'm using it often than nikon. so it's also a highly recommended make. in fact, a lot of those that i really like was with olympus. i've seen artists using polaroids, instamatics, etc in creating their art. and all i can say, wow, why didn't think/see of that before. paulkrps September 22nd, 2007, 01:54 PM http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b74/paulkrps/sample122.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b74/paulkrps/sample123.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b74/paulkrps/sample124.jpg terrapinoy September 22nd, 2007, 03:17 PM ^^ @paul excellent thoughts and images. Pros do not use canon and nikon exclusively. saying otherwise is just the wrong notion. @paul, first of all i would like to say that we both have the same names, PAUL. lol. i totally agree with you about cameras being just tools. cameras are pretty much like an artist's paint brush, with the film or sensor as his canvas and light as him medium. but as with every tool, there's always a specific brand or type that perfectly fits the artist's needs. there are even some outstanding photographs taken with a pinhole camera. and another thing paul, about the website pentaxphotogallery.com... not all of those guys are pros. some are beginners, like me, amateurs, and enthusiasts. you might wanna check these guys out: Mark Dimalanta, Bong Manayon, Larry Monserate Piojo, Lorenzo Perfecto, Rodney Torres, Alvin Panganiban, Randall Cipriano, and Jan Paul Vincent Yap, although there are more in that site i just couldn't remember the others. They are all filipinos. paulkrps September 22nd, 2007, 04:43 PM sure paul! hehhehe. felt weird saying that. problem is, it's like coke and pepsi. few people think of good drinks outside the two. as in cameras, there's a lot of very good brands outside of nikon and canon. a year ago, i made a critical decision whether i would still go for nikon. i did a research a bit and found out that olympus was way cheaper than the two. plus they have this 2-lens kit was for me was a steal. i was an olympus convert after that. j-pol September 22nd, 2007, 07:36 PM indeed, the smaller companies offer greater bang for your buck. the big c and n just sucks you into spending more money for quality that are equal to or inferior to the less marketed companies. c and n lenses are just too expensive for me. IQ-wise they are not an improvement over the others. so much for the ranting. let's just post some pictures. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1022/617101375_a75606b6dc_o.jpg terrapinoy September 23rd, 2007, 12:40 AM ^^ Nice. Pros do not use canon and nikon exclusively. saying otherwise is just the wrong notion.some outstanding photographs taken with a pinhole camera. Haha.. just think about what Anselm Adams was using. I'm not active in any Pentax forums, but have seen there is strong support for the product line. I'm finding that Flickr provides lots of great inspiration, and I saw your Flickr site and was wamly greeted by your Pentax MX. I still use my ME super and it still is tack sharp. I find that the old Pentax AF lenses work great and are alot cheaper than the C and N lenses. Nice that you mentioned Sigma. My first DSLR was the Sigma SD9. Built like a tank, produced great color and the lenses were inexpensive. The Pentax is nicer to take while traveling and less conspicuous. Like anything else each camera has its shortcomings, but the good photographer learns how to overcome those shortcomings. hehe, thanks terrapin. that middle pic, nice autumn-like colours. is it a condo? Paul yes that is a residential condo on Baltimore's waterfront. Aptly called Scarlett Place located near Little Italy. "wala sa camera yan, asa kumukuha yan" i remember during my college days in our photography class, im so embarrassed even to show what kinda cam im usin, kasi at that time, masyadong kasi siyang antique, nabili lang sa quiapo 2nd hand din. all metal na ricoh or nikon ang brand, ang todong speed pa ata non ay 1/100th of a sec lang. lumapit ang dean namin (who happens to be our photography instructor) niyaya ako sa office niya then he showed me an his cam, its the same cam just like what im using. Since then, di na ako nahiya. kahit lo-tech sinasabi ko na lang "potek, ganitong cam din nga gamit ng dean natin eh". hehehe... paulkrps September 23rd, 2007, 11:49 PM thanks sidewinderx. hehehe. it seems there's just so much in the details. paulkrps September 24th, 2007, 01:02 AM "wala sa camera yan, asa kumukuha yan" i remember during my college days in our photography class, im so embarrassed even to show what kinda cam im usin, kasi at that time, masyadong kasi siyang antique, nabili lang sa quiapo 2nd hand din. all metal na ricoh or nikon ang brand, ang todong speed pa ata non ay 1/100th of a sec lang. lumapit ang dean namin (who happens to be our photography instructor) niyaya ako sa office niya then he showed me an his cam, its the same cam just like what im using. Was at a wedding in Brooklyn and boy I never imagined a more glorious sunset. @incognito_rn - hehe.. that is in Baltimore Harbor. @paul - Wow, Lordomatic. Now that is rare. I almost looks like a Zeiss Ikon. I have managed to start a collection of cameras that I have used through the years. I still have my Nikkormat and Rolleiflex. Most of them were handed down to me. It is funny how much sentimental value a mechanical piece of equipment can have. OK, nice stories about how everyone started in photography. I remember back in college where they loaned everyone with a manual Pentax K1000 SLR for the semester. The logic here was that you would learn all the basics of photography but still allow you to concentrate on composition and lighting. Auto settings were a definite no-no. paulkrps September 25th, 2007, 12:17 AM @paul - Wow, Lordomatic. Now that is rare. I almost looks like a Zeiss Ikon. Ydlar November 24th, 2007, 04:14 PM Oo, some sent GMs last night about that. Hmm, ano ba tawag diyan? icarusrising November 24th, 2007, 04:18 PM ^^ It is called a halo, nimbus or gloriole. For the moon, it's called a moon dog... Here's an article from wiki... A halo (ἅλως; also known as a nimbus or Gloriole) is a ring of light that surrounds an object. Halos, also known as icebows, are optical phenomena that appear near or around the Sun or Moon, and sometimes near other strong light sources such as street lights. There are many types of optical halos, but they are mostly caused by ice crystals in cold cirrus clouds located high (5–10 km, or 3–6 miles) in the upper troposphere. The particular shape and orientation of the crystals is responsible for the type of halo observed. Light is reflected and refracted by the ice crystals and may split up into colors because of dispersion, similarly to the rainbow. Sometimes in very cold weather optical halos are formed by crystals close to ground level, called diamond dust. The crystals behave like jewels, refracting and reflecting sunlight between their faces, sending shafts of light in particular directions. Atmospheric phenomena such as halos were used as an empirical means of weather forecasting before meteorology was developed. Other common optical phenomena involving water droplets rather than ice crystals include the glory and the rainbow. BoNduRanT November 24th, 2007, 04:20 PM Di ko rin siguro. Googled it eto lumabas. I recently had to send in Canon compact camera for warranty repair. It had the dreaded E18 error message. They sent me back a completely different refurbished camera. I guess its easier for them to just send another unit than repair. hey i had some problem with my nikon d70 before, some kind of error. i dunno if sent me a new or refurbished one, but i noticed that they updated the firmware too. with that, i got hesitant with nikons. i need your advice guys, i keen on submitting my shots to to these stock sites only to learn somewhere that they require at least a 12mp shots. and olympus has only a 10mp dslr. question is do i need to wait for another year for olympus to come up with an update for a 12 mp dslar? and what do you think of the aperture software for macs? have you used it? what are the comments about it? terrapinoy December 7th, 2007, 06:21 PM I think if you have invested heavily in Olympus lenses then it might be worth the wait. When is Olympus coming out with the successor to the E-3? I did not realize the requirement for stock photos is 12MP. Don't be like my wife's cousin who is a sports photographer. He switched from Nikon to Canon and sold all his Nikon stuff on Ebay and Craigslist to fund his technology shift. He said that the value of the Nikons were good so he came out even. I have not used Aperture. Been only using Photoshop CS3 and iPhoto. I've read though that Aperture is great for RAW formats. Need to download Aperture and try it for 30 days. paulkrps December 7th, 2007, 07:08 PM thanks, will take note of that. tough December 8th, 2007, 06:17 PM Poll: Does Nikon or Canon have better dSLRs? By Stephen Shankland, CNET.com Dec 06, 2007 Be honest here for a second. If you're taking pictures with an SLR, there's a very good chance you're using either a Nikon or Canon camera, and therefore there's a good chance your loyalties are set. But what would you do if asked to give advice to somebody upgrading from a compact camera to a single-lens reflex model? Or what if you were a pro making a fresh start? With SLRs suddenly very popular, we decided to run a poll to see what the fans out there have to say. So take a step back, think carefully for a moment, cast your vote in our Smackdown poll box (http://asia.cnet.com/digitalliving/smackdown/0,3800004923,62035305,00.htm), where Canon's EOS 40D heads off against Nikon's D300. Here's how I see the competition right now. Canon has dominated the digital SLR market, but Nikon is coming on strong. http://asia.cnet.com/i/r/2007/dc/41072558/s001.jpg http://asia.cnet.com/2007/i/dl/vs-l.gif http://asia.cnet.com/i/r/2007/dc/42290994/s001.jpg Nikon's entry-level D40 and D40x models are relatively affordable, and it's putting image stabilization into even entry-level lenses. The image-stabilized 18-200mm lens has been Nikon's best-selling model ever, and Canon still doesn't have an equivalent for the folks who either want just one all-purpose lens or who are looking for a single lens to schlep on a vacation. Nikon's D80 and D200 were solid mid-range models, and the new D300 looks to be another strong contender. But Nikon's real broadside came with the D3, the first SLR to follow Canon's high-end lead with models featuring image sensors the size of a full frame of 35mm film. Most SLRs feature less-expensive, smaller sensors that, at least in theory, have lower sensitivity for a given number of pixels, and that make SLR lenses behave differently compared to the film era. The D3 emphasizes pixel quality rather than pixel quantity, with ISO levels reaching to 25,600 in a pinch. Unlike Canon's full-frame models, it accepts lenses designed for smaller-sensor cameras by employing data only from the smaller central portion of the sensor. Take the case of Greg Wilson, whose side business is Tiger Aerial Photography and who just bought a D300 even though his D200 is relatively new. "With the D300, I can now shoot at ISO 400 or even ISO 640 and get the same quality image as my D200 at ISO 200," he said. "If I did aerial photography 40 hours per week, I'd jump at the D3." At the same time, Canon stumbled with its new EOS 1D Mark III, repairing and updating thousands of cameras after problems with a central feature, autofocus. Longtime Canon photographer Michael Reichmann decided it's time to let Nikon back into the fold. But it would be foolish to discount either Canon's current popularity or its future product pipeline. Here are some strengths. Its midrange EOS 40D has won favorable reviews for features such as revamped autofocus, a fast frame rate, weather sealing, and low image noise. Canon's third-generation full-frame flagship, the 1Ds Mark III that just started shipping, has a whopping 21.1 megapixels, leading Canon to position it against even higher-end medium-format rivals. Canon's solid base of professional photographers, built up through years of work, helps ensure a steady supply of high-quality new lenses. By designing and making its own SLR sensors, it's able to control some of its destiny and tightly integrate technology. And it's adding image stabilization to lower-end lenses. Perhaps Canon's best competitive point against Nikon is its EOS 5D, its lower-priced full-frame camera. It currently costs close to a smaller-frame D300 and a lot less than the full-frame D3. The 5D is popular with enthusiasts, landscape photographers, stock-art specialists, and wedding photographers. And it's 2 years old, so don't be surprised if the rumored sequel (the 5D Mark II? The 7D?) is announced pretty soon. I know there are plenty of other single-lens reflex choices out there besides the two heavyweights: Olympus, Sony, Sigma, Leica, Panasonic, Pentax, Samsung. We'll save that for our next poll, though. I'm interested in taking photos around metro Manila, as well as in Bohol (I'll be there for a week). I couldn't help but notice all of the great pics posted here, and I figured this might be the thread to seek advice. Could anyone recommend any spots in the metro worth visiting? I'm interested in capturing some urban scenes, both on the ground and from an elevated position. Btw, my first HDR :D http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/6325/hdr1hw6.jpg sinj, this is a big jump from the ones in the photo contest entries. here's usually what i do. first things first, i'd rather not drown in the technicality of a shot. i'd rather be sensitive to the moment. while knowing the technicality helps, but it is not all in photography. when i look at a photo, i'd look at the lines, some shade or light, but often does it strike me to the heart. lot's of photos that were made famous failed technically, so just be sensitive and the rest will follow. if i have macro subjects, i would want it that the backgrounds lessen their distractions on the subject. learn to crop, take away unnecessary areas that take you away from the subject. what i've been doing is i let poetry go into my head, and reach for the moment. i have been a sucker for this moment thingy. i don't claim my shots are excellent, it's just i let the imagery do the talking, not the technicality. so there. Ph Man December 12th, 2007, 03:46 PM there you go... oo nga naman. emotion behind ba. wheesh...i wanna take photos of nature...sea waves, sunset, carefree children. parang poetry din. me right timing. terrapinoy December 12th, 2007, 04:07 PM Wow nakakainspire talaga. :) Makes me want to take a long walk outside and just savor the moment. Great advice for us photo buffs. Sometimes too much attention is placed on the perfection of the photo when it is the "moment" that is captured that will be long remembered. paulkrps December 12th, 2007, 05:26 PM salamat po. savouring the moment, lunch that is. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b74/paulkrps/sample175.jpg terrapinoy December 12th, 2007, 06:11 PM  We will remember the moment, but you might get hungry rather quickly. paulkrps December 12th, 2007, 06:57 PM hehe, nakain ko na. red_jasper December 13th, 2007, 05:16 AM A random shot I took at a diner in FBGC :) http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2012/2106862231_b898450ddf_o.jpg Ph Man December 13th, 2007, 07:11 AM haha...miss ko na ang dilis, ok ka talaga kumuha sir paul. pwedeng panlagay sa dining room. @ sunog, san mo yan nakuha? ok naman! madilim talaga ang background. pero sabi nga ng mga kaibigan natin, just savor the moment. basta ba nasarapan ka sa pagkain mo sa global city. sarap siguro magpunta sa beach of ilog, kuha lang ng random photos ng mga tao or nature.
