Outback Bowl attracts thousands to Bay area
Sunday, December 30, 2007
Bay Area (Bay News 9) -- The Outback Bowl is attracting thousands of fans to the Bay area the weekend before the big game.
The Wisconsin Badgers will face the Tennessee Volunteers New Year's Day at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
Convention bureaus can't give out estimates on how many people are in the area to cheer on their team, but they will be able to soon.
For the first time ever, a Visit St. Petersburg/ Clearwater research firm will track overnight Bowl visitors.
That's because one of the events, Outback Bowl Beach Day on Clearwater Beach, has become more popular over the years.
Kickoff time is 11 a.m.
The game will be aired on ESPN.
Tennessee played in the Outback Bowl last year against Penn State and lost 20 to 10. The last time Wisconsin played in a bowl game in Tampa was in 2005, they lost to Georgia 24 to 21.
