Well I'd have to disagree, Sydney pulled slightly more people than New York's celebrations with about 1.5 million watching the Sydney fireworks from around the harbour.

I heard that there were about a million people gathered together in Berlin this year...crazy
The Sydney and Instabul is amazing!
-Corey- January 6th, 2008, 01:31 AM and NY's eve were over a million.. ^^
Avatar January 6th, 2008, 01:35 AM Well whatever the amount was Sydney was supposedly more. Actually it was over 1 million for Sydney. They estimated 1.5 million.
Sydney's NYE declared a success
Organisers have declared Sydney's 2007 New Year's Eve celebrations a success after more than a million people turned out to watch an "awe-inspiring" fireworks show, amid minimal violence.
The massive crowd filled the plazas and public parks lining the shores of Sydney Harbour, where many people waited more than 10 hours to watch the midnight (AEDT) pyrotechnic spectacular.
City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore on Tuesday said Sydney's New Year's Eve revellers, a third who were visitors to the city, were not disappointed as 2008 was welcomed in with a bang.
"I think you'd all agree that the over a million people around our harbour last night had the time of their lives, that was certainly the theme of our night last night," Ms Moore told reporters.
"... stunning weather, a beautiful night, wonderful harbour, awe-inspiring and technically impressive fireworks and bridge effect and a very successful night."
The fireworks show, which featured 20,000 pyrotechnic effects fired from the Harbour Bridge alone, was the last for creative director Wayne Harrison.
He said the extravaganza went off with barely a hiccup.
"When you're putting 100,000 firings over the harbour, one would expect something to be errant, one cracker will always go off in the wrong direction," Mr Harrison said.
"Overall, last night was a magnificent result and the success rate was actually fairly high."
The City of Sydney is yet to announce a creative director for this year's New Year's Eve celebrations.
Mr Harrison was the creative force behind the last three events.
"It was a bit sad really, it was an exhilarating night, but after three years I have to pass on the baton," Mr Harrison said.
"I feel very honoured that I've had that great job over the last three years."
The NSW Police Force said it made just 94 arrests overnight.
"Sydney is to be congratulated on ... one of the lowest arrest rates we've had for New Year's Eve," NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Dave Owens said.
"When you get an estimated 1.5 million people into central Sydney itself and you only have 94 people arrested across the whole of Sydney, that's a fantastic result."
On Tuesday, police charged two males, aged 17 and 18, with affray in relation to a New Year's Eve CBD stabbing.
A 22-year-old man stabbed in the chest during the incident on George Street remained in hospital in a serious condition.
In another serious New Year's Eve incident, a 21-year-old man suffered neck lacerations after he slipped while trying to climb over a fence at Bondi, impaling himself.
City of Sydney acting chief executive Garry Harding said the bigger than usual New Year's Eve crowd left a bigger than usual mess.
His crew of about 200 workers began the clean-up about 2am, and by 8am had collected about 55 tonnes of garbage from the inner-city and its parks.
"It was very messy, ankle-deep rubbish last night," he said.
The giant egg timer-like display at the centrepiece of last night's fireworks show will remain on the Sydney Harbour Bridge until January 12.
Each night, it will perform a three-minute animated sequence on every hour between 8pm and midnight.

hkskyline January 7th, 2008, 10:00 AM Typical countdown activities in Hong Kong except a special edition of Symphony of Lights, the daily light and laser show among many buildings in the harbour. The countdown included a special pyrotechnics display from 2 IFC, inspired by the fireworks on Taipei 101 that ring in the new year.

the spliff fairy January 7th, 2008, 01:42 PM Happy new year folks!
The wheel is of course perfectly situated across from the worlds most famous clockface. The fireworks took 7
months to plan but it wasnt as impressive (though bigger) than 2006. the biggest one ever was of course
2000, an hour long display along the whole central length of the Thames to a crowd of 3 million people.

the spliff fairy January 7th, 2008, 05:33 PM Londons in full, straight after countdown. Near the end you can see the closest of what a mini nuclear bomb might look like detonating for a second in a city, from 08:50 onward it gets intense.
