Boards January 15th, 2008, 12:42 AM Thanks mate:) I saw B4mmy had posted one of these stickies in the Liverpool forum and asked if he could post one here to encourage new members, hope no-one minds?
slightbefore January 15th, 2008, 01:42 PM hello all,
I've been a lurker in these forums for a wee while so I thought I'd say hello.
I don't have a lot to add but I am interested.
b4mmy January 15th, 2008, 02:17 PM hello all,
I've been a lurker in these forums for a wee while so I thought I'd say hello.
I don't have a lot to add but I am interested.
Welcome :)
It's easier to contribute than you might think... if you can take some pics of areas that interest you and then load em up to say, photobucket, you can paste the images on SSC no problem...
legslikeaspider January 15th, 2008, 02:18 PM well hello there and welcome. please make yourself at home.:hi:
Kentigern January 15th, 2008, 04:39 PM What you should do first is loudly proclaim your views on football stadiums.
The Boy David January 15th, 2008, 05:27 PM Indeed. Delightful insight, Kentigern :)
Welcome, slightbefore!
grimrosco January 15th, 2008, 07:55 PM Hello folks,
I check the forums pretty much every day, however never had inclination to get involved however I guess this is as good a time as any.
Grim :)

Glasvegas January 15th, 2008, 10:55 PM welcome. we are experiencing a bit of a forumer drought here in the glasgow forum. weird for such a large city with so much going on. glad you could join us.
jeff_h January 15th, 2008, 11:24 PM I post in the Fundee thread but do browse the other ones...not wishing to pass on too many critical comments
Jack Rabbit Slim January 16th, 2008, 12:18 AM Well it loks at this thread has already prompted two or three lurkers to emerge out of the shadows and become proper forumers who can contribute to threads! So a good thing all round!
I too ghosted for a few months before actually becoming a member, there were just too many threads that I wanted to post my thoughts in for me not to sign up. It was a bit of a bind having to hand over my credit card details and submit a urine sample but apart from that it was painless. :)
The simple way to get more people in Glasgow and Scotland onto sites like these is to build some good skyscrapers!! That's why there has been a big boom in forumers from London, Manchester, Liverpool, B'ham, Leeds etc etc, because they are planning and building skyscrapers, which people want to talk about.
Cosimo63 January 16th, 2008, 05:12 PM Hi people, dont post much either mainly because i dont know very much about architechere.
But i love the forum, very interesting.
Love Glasgow although im a Lanarkshire lad.
Wish the city centre was twice the size it was, or the west end could be incorporated into the CC.
Dont know why this is just the way i am.
Keep up the good work peeps
Great site lets all make it even greater.
crusty_bint January 16th, 2008, 05:23 PM Good to see new members - welcome everyone! Don't let the current old firm crap put you off, hopefully it will come to an end soon!
tongue_tied_danny January 16th, 2008, 09:52 PM Thought I'd say hello. I'm not employed in architecture but I have a keen interest and I like to keep abreast of developments.
Luigigurl January 17th, 2008, 10:25 AM Hi. Another long time lurker putting in an appearance. Last year I moved away from the Red Road flats where I'd lived for 15 years. I missed them, so was looking for any info on them and found the Glasgow Tower Blocks thread. My all time favorite thread on any forum ever. :)

Weegie38 February 26th, 2008, 05:21 PM Eh, hello. Lurked for a while here, thought I'd join the discussions - a Glasgow resident with no expertise whatsoever on architecture.
The Boy David February 26th, 2008, 05:26 PM Welcome to the forum, Weegie38!
Monkey9000 February 26th, 2008, 05:47 PM Hello Weegie38!
GlasgowMan February 26th, 2008, 06:50 PM Welcome Weegie38, Don’t worry about not knowing much about architecture, before I joined here I knew nothing but learned allot, and still am from this forum.
thewonder March 16th, 2008, 09:59 PM Hello Glasgow forum – I’ve been a lurker on this site for a while now, thought it was time to resurrect my old account and actually contribute! I love to know what’s going on in the city, reading about new developments etc and I love architecture but don’t really know a great deal....so that’s enough about me :)
Xtreminal April 10th, 2008, 02:32 AM Hello to All Glaswegians. I am living 6 years in Glasgow so you can count me as Glaswegian. Yet I am one of rare nationalities in Scotland. Yes, I'm Azeri and Scotland have no more than 50 people from Azerbaijan.
GlasgowMan April 10th, 2008, 04:01 PM Welcome to the forum thewonder and Xtreminal :)
Interesting wee face that re 50 people from Azerbaijan, makes me wonder how many people are living in Greater Glasgow from all other countries...
Xtreminal April 10th, 2008, 04:16 PM GlasgowMan,cheers...Scotland have very low number of former citizens of USSR compared to England..There is not so much Russian, Ukrainian, Georgian and other ex-USSR nations in here
Skiver May 3rd, 2008, 01:29 AM Hey all! Hopefully this is the best place to introduce yourself ... anyway been lurking for a while on these forums, via the futureglasgow site, thought it might be worth joining just in case I have something intelligent/ constructive to say once in a while.
Bonjour tout le monde?
Alonzo Harris May 4th, 2008, 11:58 PM welcome. we are experiencing a bit of a forumer drought here in the glasgow forum. weird for such a large city with so much going on. glad you could join us.
I hate it when people call it Glasvegas
Monkey9000 May 5th, 2008, 04:29 PM I was thinking, shouldn't this thread be called "NEW-members introduction" since you have to be a member in the first place to post anything?
GlasgowMan May 5th, 2008, 05:24 PM I was thinking, shouldn't this thread be called "NEW-members introduction" since you have to be a member in the first place to post anything?
 yea I was thinking that too, would make much more sence :)
The Boy David May 7th, 2008, 01:15 AM Welcome to the forums, Skiver and Alonzo!
RapidTaco May 7th, 2008, 12:48 PM Hey everyone, I've also been viewing this forum for a while now too so thought I'd go ahead and sign up too!
Was living in Australia for a few years but been back in Glasgow now for nearly 3 years and glad to be home :)
GlasgowMan May 7th, 2008, 05:08 PM Welcome RapidTaco :)
AndyC May 17th, 2008, 02:33 AM hey, just joined a minute ago in order to reply to some of the partially racist crap posted in the Skybar about Scottish Devolution but i didnt have the bottle *retreats sheepishly* so i supposed i would just introduce myself here instead.
The Boy David May 17th, 2008, 12:46 PM Hi AndyC, quite right too, it's just not worth it....
Welcome to the forums!
maccoinnich May 17th, 2008, 01:49 PM Oh, just do your best to bite your tongue and ignore it. That's what I try to do. Can't we just all get along and talk about big shiny buildings? (And a warm welcome, of course.)
AlMacRob June 6th, 2008, 01:05 PM Hello.
I've browsed these pages for a while now and thought it about time to introduce myself.
I'm not from Glasgow myself (I was born in Norfolk) but my Mum was born and raised in the tenements on Govan Road and I've always had a fondness of the city and its people. I've never stopped in Glasgow only been through it on the M8 and I've always been impressed by the architecture and the citys skyline and it's high flats. I'd love to come and visit the city and spend some time there and visit the places where my Mum grew up and get some photos before too many of the tower blocks are demolished.
All the best
Al.

Well, hello and welcome. :)
GlasgowMan June 6th, 2008, 06:56 PM Welcome Al :)
AshAshAsh June 6th, 2008, 11:05 PM I really should have said 'hello' in here before I posted 13 times. I hope you don't think me rude, I just forgot, so belatedly - "hello".
I've read the forums here for a little while and I deceided to register so I could share my strongly held and entirely uninformed views with everyone.
I don't work in planning or architecture, but it is something that I am interested in and SSC seems to be a lot quicker with news about developments in Glasgow and elsewhere than the mainstream media so this would seem to be the place to be.
djmaxliving June 22nd, 2008, 05:05 PM Nice to see new people from glasgow welcome AndyC . I need some help i don't know how to take photos from my camera then load them up to skyscrapercity thanks .
The Boy David June 22nd, 2008, 05:13 PM Nice to see new people from glasgow welcome AndyC . I need some help i don't know how to take photos from my camera then load them up to skyscrapercity thanks .
Righty, what you need to do is register with an image hosting site like www.photobucket.com and create an account.
This website allows you to upload the photographs you have taken from your computer to the internet, and keeps them there like an online photoalbum.
Once you have registered, upoload the photos you want to show on this site, and wait for them to become part of your online album (should take a minute or two at most). Then, to actually display them on this forum, you need to use a line of code that photobucket provides for you - it will look something like this:
*name of photo*
and can be found under the thumbnail of the photo itself.
Copy this line of code and paste it into your reply to the thread you are looking at, and the picture should then appear when you hit the reply button and the thread loads up with your actual reply.
Hope that helps, pm me if you can't get it to work :)
djmaxliving June 24th, 2008, 01:29 AM how do you close a thread can you ? .
legslikeaspider June 24th, 2008, 01:25 PM regular mortals can't close threads. you need to invite a moderator to take a look at it and, in their wisdom, they will decide whether or not to close the thread. You'll find a list of the UK forum mods at the bottom of the main UK and Ireland page. Send one of them (b4mmy seems to pay closest attention to the Glasgow forum) a private message and he'll come along as soon as he can.
Chief June 24th, 2008, 01:47 PM Nope - only moderators can close/delete a thread a thread. Don't worry about it - just leave it and so long as no one else posts in it it will soon drop down the forum list and vanish from peoples' memories.

Architecture student in Glasgow, so these kind of forums are a real interest, helpful too.
djmaxliving August 2nd, 2008, 08:29 PM Nice of you to join ross410. What happened to the image at the left side of our boxes under the username. You wot.

You can never have enough Weegies after all
maccoinnich August 19th, 2008, 09:16 PM Welcome. May you have much fun and witty banter here.
djmaxliving September 15th, 2008, 09:52 PM Is everyone back to uni this week, its like a ghost town.
djmaxliving September 15th, 2008, 09:59 PM Hi Indiekid even if it was a bit late.
indiekid September 16th, 2008, 12:10 AM  No problem DJ:)
The Boy David September 16th, 2008, 12:45 AM Heh, that's one thing you'll learn about this forum, dj - it ebbs and flows - some weeks there is so much chat going on it's almost impressive, other weeks barely anything is said at all.
It's a fickle balance that has seemed emerge over the years, says I, the old timer... :)
maccoinnich September 16th, 2008, 01:28 AM Aye, well, the last 3 years have flown by for me...
crusty_bint September 17th, 2008, 12:56 AM thats scary, i remember before you registered ...an' it wiz aw fields roon here!
Strukyboy September 22nd, 2008, 04:17 PM Been frequenting these forums for about 2years and thought it's about time I join.
I am an (architecturally opinionated) structural engineer. Worked initially with a contractor for a year and have been with a good design consultancy for 5years.
Got loads of interesting photos of selfridges that I will share eventually, and more in and around glasgow.
maccoinnich September 22nd, 2008, 04:33 PM What, the abandoned Toyo Ito design? If so, I'd love to see them.
And welcome. It's warm in here and very friendly.
Chief September 23rd, 2008, 12:18 AM Welcome mate - 'tis quite therapeutic, taking the plunge and actually joining.
Boards September 23rd, 2008, 12:29 AM Willkommen.
The Boy David September 23rd, 2008, 01:22 AM Yep welcome Strukyboy, always good to have engineers around the place!

scosmos October 12th, 2008, 07:13 PM Hey all, i'm a business and language student at strathy. And i've always taken great interest in regeneration of the towns and cities around the once mighty Clyde. So i though i better sign up.
May I just say your forum is a goldmine of news and opinions (and procrastination) Very pleased to have found it :D
EDIT: Why can't i post photos ?? :(
GlasgowMan October 14th, 2008, 11:59 PM Welcome to all the new members, hope yous stick around and post on a regular bases :)
legslikeaspider October 16th, 2008, 12:03 AM EDIT: Why can't i post photos ?? :(
You need to get an account with a photo-hosting site and use the tags to hyperlink to the photo in question - my understanding is that because this site is free and has minimal advertising, the admins try to keep overheads down by not allowing regular users to post photos directly. Some people use tripod, others use flickr and I use photobucket to post photos. All free and a total piece of piss to use.
Chief October 16th, 2008, 11:01 AM Welcsome scosmos - good to have another person from strathy around!
And the business faculty was a good choice - chicks aplenty! Us engineers were always envious of the guys taking business courses...
Jamandell (d69) October 16th, 2008, 10:31 PM Dunno where else to say this really...but the Glasgow Uni students will probably see a fair bit of me over the next week and a bit...as I'm standing in the election to be in the SRC!
Yes...you may get to shove your hand down my bucket of sweeties in no time! :D
Boards October 16th, 2008, 10:40 PM The Scottish Rapists Club? Just don't touch the complimentary drinks.

YES! YES YES YES YES YES!
YES!
deBuitléir October 18th, 2008, 06:39 PM what is happening to the Glasgow forum? Everyone is so giddy...
Chief October 18th, 2008, 10:30 PM Been asking myself the same question. I love the banter as much as the next guy, but on every thread? And some of the stuff posted is pure filth - we shouldn't forget there are young 'uns reading.
Anyway...
jadeskate January 27th, 2009, 04:38 PM Hi all,
I'm another who's been viewing SC for a while and so though it a bit rude not to join!
I'm from Glasgow originally but have been in London for 4 years now, worked previously at the Mayor's office, now working in the policy department of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
It's great to see so much development in progress in Glasgow, despite the recession beginning to bite- good thing that so many projects got going before and that the 2014 Games projects will be coming on scheme soon.
Anyway, look forward to contributing to the discussion!
Sweet Zombie Jesus January 27th, 2009, 06:34 PM I'll take an opportunity here to sneak in and say hello myself :) another Strathclyder, been viewing these forums for aaages and joined late last year with the intention of posting, but never really got around to it, so I'll do it now just for the hell of it.

Gommsta October 7th, 2009, 06:24 PM Hi Folks,
Long time lurker, first time poster etc etc
I don't live or work in Glasgow but I do love the place, its architecture, and above all its people.
Thanks for creating this great forum. I check it daily and do very much enjoy reading all of your musings. I hope one day to be in a position where I too can contribute in a meaningful fashion and give others the same enjoyment that you give me.
Thanks again.

Urien February 24th, 2012, 07:57 PM Hi, my name is Davide and I came from Italy.
I'm going to study at Strathclyde university in Glasgow so
I decided to deepen my knowledge of this beautiful city and

but I'll give my contribution whenever I can.
If you guys have any question, I'm here :)

I'm going to study at Strathclyde university in Glasgow so
I decided to deepen my knowledge of this beautiful city and
country on this forum. I'll probably read rather then write
but I'll give my contribution whenever I can.
If you guys have any question, I'm here :)
Welcome, Davide!
