You can see how much it's risen since my last update, as there was four floors showing on the ergon energy building behind this building, now there is only two left showing :).

Wow, I've been watching the construction start from the ground it was when next to motel 98 (my friends used to own it - they own Mariners North Townsville now) and it shure is coming along, the city is in its turning point, when all these new apatments, retail, hotels and stuff get built - it will really have a good vibe toward it =] THIS IS MY FIRST POST!

think about it guys, i live on northside..... sound real sophisticated dont it? there is virtually zero suburb identity to rockhampton. sure there are plenty of actual suburbs but us old hat barn yard folk dont identify it as such. i live in frenchville and refuse to say northside or north rockhampton when quoting my address. its not that i am ashamed of it, on the contrary actually because i have suburban community pride and a little bit of the year 2008 in me. get with the times people please. do you hear people say "i live on northside" from brisbane , sydney or even townsville? absolutely not.they state the suburb they actually reside in. the council have alote to blame as they do not promote community pride and identity . in mackay, townsville cairns and other large urban cities you see suburb sighns anounced on the main roads leading into them. we have berseker but who knows where that ends and park avenue starts? hmmm . real community identity here hey? what do you think guys?

and what exactly does this have to do with the Edge Apartments????

Also you didn't have to post the same thing in four different threads.

I usually refer to suburb names whenever I am talking about a place in Rocky, although there is nothing wrong with just Northside and Southside.

Awesome! Thanks for the pics Indictable. Love that second one - it just dominates. So Rockhampton's first highrise building is now topped out! Yay! You know I just realised that Emporis didn't even have a page for Rockhampton. So I had to get them to create one, and add The Edge to it. I'll have to get some of Rocky's other highrise proposals up as well.

Belinda Sleeman

DO YOU like to live on the edge?

Well, if you have a spare $500,000, you could wake up to a view like this every morning - but you had better be quick.

The Edge riverfront apartments, on Rockhampton's Victoria Parade, are still three months from being complete but already about 80% have been sold.

The huge complex, worth almost $30 million, comprises 84 dual-key hotel apartments and 36 privately-owned apartments, along with a restaurant, bar, gymnasium and glass-edge pool.

Developer Andrew Beaumont said the owned apartments were a mixture of two bedrooms, two bedrooms with a study, and three bedrooms, and ranged in price from $495,000 to $875,000.

“The bulk of the buyers have been from around the region, but we have had some interstate investors,” he said.

“We've had quite a few rural people as well, purchasing a unit for when they need to come into town.”

Businessman Grant Cassidy, of The Cassidy Group, will manage the complex but run the hotel independently.

The dual-key apartments comprise a studio hotel room and a one-bedroom self-contained unit.

Mr Cassidy said the concept was popular in capital cities, but was a first for the region and one of the first in regional Queensland.

“They are mainly looked at for investment, meaning they'll come back into the hotel pool,” he said.

“The owner will get the return, but obviously a portion will also come back to us.”

Mr Cassidy, who also owns Motel 98 next door, said the riverfront was beginning to transform into an accommodation, food and lifestyle precinct.

“The hotel is fully booked out for Beef Week next year already, and we've taken a lot of bookings for next year, so the demand is certainly there,” he said.

“Weddings and conferences are another target for us.

Mr Beaumont said the scaffolding was expected to be taken down by Christmas, and the crane to be moved in early January.

“We want to finish the fit-out in February and get people settled in March,” he said.

The project has been three years in the making, with construction starting about 15 months ago.

It certainly sticks out on the Skyline, I love the building but not so much the CBD, its so.... Degrading, lifeless, and well just a hole. With time It'll get better, no doubts about that, but its so under maintained it was depressing. Sorry to be a wet blanket but from getting cutt off in the traffic to scratching my rims because of it, I didnt like my time in Rockhampton. It was so brown. Redhill homemaker centre was great, such a mini Domain.

Yes the CBD is a hole......the council puts no time or effort into even making it look presentable, as you definately may have noticed...but hopefully as all these new towers go up, this may bring some life back into the city......it can't exactly get any worse.....

Burden
December 25th, 2008, 12:47 PM
The roads in the CBD were shocking, I cant believe the council would let it get that bad. The majority of it is unmarked, and its a guessing game on were to go. This tower is great. If it were up to me, i'd redefine an area and move the Central Business District elsewhere, Were it isnt imposing on the area yet you wont be confined to 40m heights and heritage listed buildings. Iam still in a state of disbelief at the lack of attention in the city.

Agree 110% with every comment! it is neglected, BIG TIME! inner-cbd (wont use the world 'city' dont wanna degrade mackay and upwards) roads are the worst, half of them dont even have roundabouts or markings! and they go off the fact that Denison St (train track along WHOLE street) can divide traffic with a train every hour or two, even on Fitzroy and Albert St's (bridge st's)

mmmm, with all the heritage listed buildings, especially Quay St from The Cri down a while, we cant develop much, so would have to focus on another area, not that the CBD has ever been focused on.. the mayor wants tallest buildings on the edge of the CBD, and it gets smaller towards the middle WTFFF?????

welll as a council that prospers in nothing, i do agree with you Burden

I can't believe the prices they're asking for these units in Rocky.

Hmmm lets see. As an investor I have to consider my choices.

1. $500 000 for an apartment in Rocky with short term/holiday renters.

2. $500 000 for a 2 br apartment in Sydney with long term tenancy.

or
3. $190 000 for a 1 br apartment in Melbourne with long term tenancy.

And I can claim travel to Sydney and Melbourne as a business expense.

Rockvegas
January 12th, 2009, 06:06 AM
The apartments also do come with long term accommodation, and investors that don't want the hustle and bustle of the big cities do pay these prices for apartments in Rockhampton.

Yeah you may as well. The builders are just finishing off the restaurant/bar area and then it should be all complete.

Well we should find out in about Jul/Aug whether or not it will be Rocky's tallest building, that is when Acton Property Corp. should start getting the Art Gallery ready for demolition for the River Reach 16st development.

THE lights have been lit, as excited apartment owners like Rockhampton's Jenny Lo-Monaco start to move into a building that has changed the skyline.

The Edge Luxury Apartment Hotel came alive for the first time earlier this week with the bar and restaurant set to open by Beef Australia 2009.

Two-and-a-half years ago, Jenny, a school teacher at The Rockhampton Grammar School, made enquiries about what would become her new home,
This week Jenny watched the sunset from the balcony of her new two-bedroom apartment on the ninth floor, as she was one of the first to start moving her things in.

“I knew the views were amazing, but to watch the sunset over the river was a nice surprise,” Jenny said.

Originally Jenny looked at the investment property, but she later decided it would be practical to make it her new home.

Real Estate Consultant at Pat O'Driscoll in Rockhampton, Leanne Fenech, said only two apartments were left for sale, both on the 11th floor, along with six dual-key investment apartments.

Leanne said to see the building light up and watch her buyers on their balconies for the first time was very exciting.

“Some of these buyers signed up three years ago, and to see them on the balcony of their new apartment was satisfying and rewarding, and the beginning of big things to come for Rockhampton,” Leanne said.

She said more than 55 owners had settled in their apartments this week.

Jenny said the major drawcard for buying an apartment at The Edge was close proximity to work. And, as with most buyers, the security and low maintenance that came with apartment-living had captured her attention.

“I also liked the look of the building when I first saw the plans; it was modern, fresh and something new,” Jenny said.

Yeah, I heard that on the news the other night.

Also that Japanese seaweed glass that divides the restaurant & bar is the only of its kind in Australia..
