^^just to clarify, the bellway one is what is going for approval right now. you might say that supercedes the other two. i would expect so.

edit: news just in around 25/01/2008- the bellway proposal has been amended to 292 dwellings from previously 281 (approx).

we know about this but just a few more details. this doesn't have a thread of its own, and it's not cancelled. from what i can tell it is either side of BSC's canopus and clustered around abito.

Commercial

Ask, in partnership with Network Rail and Salford City Council has proposed a pioneering vision to reconnect the two great cities of Manchester and Salford,

across the River Irwell, with a series of stunning new pieces of public realm.

This vision, underpinned by urban regeneration company Central Salford URC, will deliver a breathtaking mixed-use scheme consisting of 3.25m sq ft of

mixed-use development, including shops, an hotel, around 1m sq ft of business space and 2m sq ft of residential space, eventually providing up to 2,600 new

homes, over the next decade.

The development, which has been designed by architects Feilden Clegg Bradley, is located within the historic Greengate triangle area, bounded by Chapel

Street, Gravel Lane and Sacred Trinity Church. It sits just yards from the booming retail and leisure developments of Manchester city centre’s Exchange

Square.

The first piece of the Greengate jigsaw is already in place with the creation of the 8 storey completed Abito apartment scheme on the corner of Boon Street

and Greengate.

http://www.centralsalford.com/site/news_pictures_1.php - there's a MS Word press release on it.

20/09/06 - PLANS SUBMITTED FOR SCHEME TO LINK SALFORD AND MANCHESTER
A seemingly forgotten part of the city of Salford, minutes from Victoria Station, is set to become a breathtaking new urban quarter known as The Exchange, Greengate.

Planning proposals to transform Greengate, the historic core of Salford, have been submitted which will serve to re-connect the cities of Salford and Manchester and will transform 13 hectares of vacant and derelict land into a distinctive new urban quarter.

You will drive people away from this forum, and you seem utterly oblivious to how infuriating you behaviour is.

This is really for out-of-town developments.

Though i appreciate the time you're putting in.

Right, at the moment there are about 3 different threads where people are debating with comdot about what he's posting. Please can you sort it out via private messaging or do it in the general discussion forum? this is getting stupid.

Thanks Goldie, it's one area that I have only ever skirted around when going for a jog, but I still don't really have a clear understanding in my head of the area that this does and will cover, or a concise opinion of the quality at hand.

The pictures are indicative, but what were your thoughts?

Those townhouses are fantastic almost.... somethings missing from them, but better built in this style then small McBarrett-Wimpey style anyway.

Comdot
June 12th, 2008, 01:05 PM
style is what's missing. there's nothing to them. just like the place i live in.

Well that pic is horrible but some of the ones on the previous page were ok, better in that townhouse style then McFlat/House.... A bit like those decent townhouses theyve built near the Chinese Consulate in Victoria Park only with better realm, almost like a georgian square.

They remind me of those huge houses in Ordsall near the Lads Club, the ones on the Morrissey video that look so grand but are all falling apart and boarded up (I hope theyre not like that now 20 years later).

Comdot
June 12th, 2008, 03:09 PM
some are boarded up, can't remember how many. accidentally wandered into that area a few weeks ago. it's only a few hundred yards from me. i do like those houses and their little square. out of interest, do you know if they're state owned?

the photos goldie posted, i'd be interested to hear what nerd thinks about their architecural merits. :)
to me they just seem to be missing everything that makes a georgian building, bar the general shape. it's almost like they've left all the detailing off just so you realise it was built recently.

Comdot
June 12th, 2008, 03:15 PM
also those fences are pathetic. asda price!

June 12th, 2008, 04:10 PM
The fences really let those townhouses down. Makes them look Plastic, painted concrete obviously would'ave be better.

Need abit more detail aswell, even if it was stuck on round the edges (subtle details obviously)

Comdot
June 12th, 2008, 04:16 PM
all this said it's just the kind of place i would live in, it's cheap.

The mature trees that they've left around the edge of the site work a treat, and the little square was full of kids tearing round on tricycles and playing in the garden, with their parents keeping an eye out their front doors / kitchen windows - so the whole idea of having car free but still structured outdoor space was working a treat. Behind the houses, there is a yard at ground level and then galvanised metal steps leading up of the back gardens which are built at first floor level over car parking. The way Urban Spalsh handled this at Chimney Pot Park, with the garden / back yard extending right up to first floor level on the houses, looks neater and seemed to work better - no-one at Broughton Green looked like they'd worked out what to do with the little area at ground floor level.

There's some cheap stuff on the houses, like the white upvc windows, but I think they do a fairly good job of being suggestive of victorian houses without just being a dodgy pastiche...

^^ Incidentally that forms the second phase to Countryside Properties massive Lower Broughton scheme. The first phase which Golide captured on the Central Salford thread is pretty good in many ways. The whole development was masterplanned by MBLA; first phase architecs were Halliday Meecham; second phase is Taylor Young.

This is an enormous application - be interesting to see how quickly it's developed.
