Wala ra ba nako na noticed lately regj. Basi nahuman na.

^^

As promised, here's now the pix of the constructed New JEEPNEY
TERMINAL( for NASIPIT Bound jeepneys) @ Gaisano Mall's parking area.
Sigh, nganong DIHA man gyud gibutang :bash: didto nalang unta outside
the parking area.

(Photo taken this morning)

http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac269/msbunnybxu/37.jpg?t=1264917581

Ang GOOD NEWS lang is when I saw our TAXI's now using again
GMALL'S main entrance parking. Unlike before nga mga trikes ang
nag-park diha, sus,ka gubot nalang gyud walay mga discipline maka-
cause na hinuon ug traffic.

(photo taken this morning)

http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac269/msbunnybxu/12-1.jpg?t=1264919116

With the absence of those trikes now, SEE how clean that side of the
road looks now with those TAXIS lined up. It is more easire now to
find the taxis kaysa before didto sila nag-park near Philhealth bldg.,
dili sila mapansin & passengers had to cross pa the center island to
get to them.

correct..remember that RLC is also heavily diversified into office/BPO and housing and subdivision developments...

political intervention??... even the mayor made the disclosure of that purchase as one of the biggest interest of a business group into Butuan in 2008...could the Calo's and the mayor munch on their own deals and words? :)

Ang question when ta taman maghulat? after 5years or ten years.hehehee. Naapsan na gani ta sa tacloban nga boot hunahunaon mas highly urbanized pata sa ila. Hinay jud ang economic activity diria jud.

Same observation here miks. Kulang lang gyud sa pagka agressive to invite more investors. Ang mas hadlok pa gyud kay Mr.Peter Dy will soon put up a Mini Mall in that site between DBP & Razon's. Now, what if haharangin na naman nila ang entry ng Robinsons like what happened with Gaisano before just because OTIS Mall felt threatened? :ohno: God forbid   Naka experience nman gud ta ani so it's scary that we might again have a repeat performance of that rally2x @ OTIS grounds....heheheh...

You cannot use the sole presence of malls as a gauge or measure of economic activity. Would you agree now if we say Philippines has more economic activity than Malaysia or Indonesia because the Philippines has more malls???

or Manila has more economic activity than HongKong just because Manila has more, diverse and bigger malls???

or Tacloban having more economic activity than Subic/Olongapo just because Tacloban has a Gaisano and Robinsons to boot while Subic has none???

right now, we should patronize what is there for now...muabot ra lagi na...

for the moment I heavily condemn this twisted and cave-man practice of a few of our Butuanon shoppers....I have observed that there are Butuanons who spent their credit and cash til limit in Ayala in Cebu on weekends....after that or all the while they are here at their own Butuan....they just contend themselves with ukay-ukay...those Butuanon shopping idiots

Yes! Sakto ka jan BOB! Having numerous malls is not a gauge to measure economic activity in a GIVEN area.... Yet on the credit side, malaki din impact ng mga malls na'to (Employment - wise) and it can boost the business climate ng isang lugar especially malaking investor ang pumasok at may pangalan....

For instance, SM CDO... although sinasabi di kumikita ang SM CDO pero ang positive contribution nito ay na stimulate nya yung economic activity sa AREA....

Yes! Moabot ra jud ng mga long - awaited investments dha sa BXU.... JUST WAIT lang tayo! Ang buhay ay Weder2x lang!

GOOD MORNING BXU!

Tapos dapat baguhon nila ang pintura no... para mas nice na sya....

Wow. Nice pics ate bunny. The terminal exterior sure looks neat now, but it will look more beautiful once this job is done. I'll repost this sa Butuan Airport thread if you don't mind. :okay:

OT:

I remember one thing, my first time travelled to Baghdad via Dubai, it's really amazing when you see the grandiest airport in the world... carpeted floor from the check in and waiting area... the most gorgeous airport in the world... that time that was terminal I and now the most beautiful terminal is terminal III. :) maulaw ka mo tikang.. :bash: murag maulaw ka mo suot og maot nga sapatos... kay basin madaot ang salog...:lol::lol:

I should have imagine our local airport be one of those in the future... that time, one of my nephiew and neice could be the mayor in Butuan :):lol: who knows?

Guys,

A Cebu Pacific staff revealed that aside from the Check-in area which will be fully air-conditioned, the airport's Arrival Lobby will also soon have its own Rest room/comfort room.

The first thing my brother noticed when he arrived @ the airport yesterday, granite na daw ang floor..

Good news indeed. They really need to put up comfort rooms there so that Cebu Pacific passengers no longer need to rush to the plane's toilet or PAL's comfort room or the terminal's comfort room. hahaha :nuts: Above all, ventilation problems will be solved. Air conditioning will really calm Cebu Pacific passengers whenever they go HOT when their flight is delayed or otherwise, canceled.

Too bad, the morning flight of 5J from Cebu-Butuan and v.v. is suspended. :ohno: As what reg said, "bawal ang mga gagmay'ng edro" hahaha

Yes I'm back reg kay I miss this forum and my fellow SSCers. Yup, human na ang midterms namo reg. Karong February 22 ug 23 pa ang among Semis.

About the airport exterior, yeah, pwede sad utrohon nila ang paint job. Okay ra man ang white. That's just a temporary color anyway. Maybe 1st layer lang na sa paint then sapawan nila ug another color. But for me, okay lang ang white kay it represents cleanliness man gud. The roof also needs a new paint job but it would be nice if they would add a 2nd floor and redesign the roof similar to Francisco Bangoy Int'l Airport in Davao OR construct a new airport for God's sake. :bash:

regjeex
February 7th, 2010, 02:10 PM
Yep! but having new airport is not really necessary as of this time Franz. What our government can do is to redevelop the terminal extend the runway or so. For the whole terminal is only good for departure... Build something bigger than that... Landscape the area to make more beautiful and attractive to our visitors both local and foreigners. If Gibo will win in this election, more infra projects can be realized from his administrations and I hope our LGU will be more active to be sip-sip to them... joke..

Caraga Square did not violate any of that Reg since they are within the commercial zone....those residences around it are in fact the ones violating the zoning since they are located in the area suited for commercial use...if they cannot stand the noise and bustle day in and day out within the busy commercial area....they should relocate to aeas intended for residential use..

Naay mas maayo nga reference when you are ranking the economic activities of cities. This is the Asian Institute of Management Competitive Cities Survey.

For the 2007 Survey, Butuan ranked #9 among medium size cities. Among the medium sized cities of Mindanao, only Butuan together with General Santos and Tagum made it to the Top 10. Iligan, CDO and Zamboanga slipped out of the magic 10.

In the past you can download this from the AIM site but now you cannot download it anymore. I was able to download it in 2008.

Yep! but having new airport is not really necessary as of this time Franz. What our government can do is to redevelop the terminal extend the runway or so. For the whole terminal is only good for departure... Build something bigger than that... Landscape the area to make more beautiful and attractive to our visitors both local and foreigners. If Gibo will win in this election, more infra projects can be realized from his administrations and I hope our LGU will be more active to be sip-sip to them... joke..

You're right. A new airport is not necessary but perhaps it just needs a new terminal building that has 2-4 jet bridges, an improvised runway and apron, a taxiway and a new air traffic control tower. Medyo kulang sad ang facilities and equipment sa airport, in my opinion. And yes they should landscape the area like put up life-size statues of early Butuanons or whatever, and plant trees and flowers.

I came up with this kind of idea
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_Liio1ZDKslA/S2_qFHv3r3I/AAAAAAAAAH8/6gvdQukPEhA/s912/bancasi%20airport.jpg

nice visionary plan there Kuya. therethere are a lot of room to spare if suppose our government planners stop being short sighted and put proper planning in order.

that bill converting Bancasi into a trunkline airport by ATO standards is hanging in congress. unfortunately so, our senators and congressmen at both chambers are busy preparing for the next election.

this bill will certainly be found in the chamber's dust bin

Those trabahantes are still working at the place. There's a part sa gawas nga ilang gipintalan ug dark brown, so it might be a joint coffee shop and pharmacy. I'll try to take pics of it puhon aron ma-visualize gyud ninyo ning akong gipangsulti.

Oi, nice to know about that coffeeshop, huh. I'm sure it'll be a hit even to FSUU students. Also with the presence of a pharmacy diha soon, ma well lighted na pud na nga lugar espcially nga it's near the overpass.

:ohno: What a mess. How else can you imagine the disruption this brown-outs is affecting our day to day lives? :ohno: ang mga pinakaluoy gyud are those businessmen who are suffering from their losses every minute of the day (especially those Ice Plants in BXU,Bakeshops & Bakeries, etc. that relies on electrical tools & gadgets), Do you think they'll survive for long? What I don't understand is that WHY tag 7 hours man ang brown-outs here in Butuan tapos every other day pa gyud ang schedule? Mura naman ug gitubos na nato ang ubang cities sa Mindanao? The reason Napocor gave via our local ABS CBN news this afternoon is the continuous lowering of lake Lanao's water level. But what I heared is that the brown-outs in Cdo & Iligan is not as frequent as in Butuan. Ang Gensan man gani tig- 1 hr to two hrs. lang.

Ang Gensan man gani tig- 1 hr to two hrs. lang.

What? 7hour Brownout every other day? :bash:

Pwede! Pero in the long run, it will take toll on the BUSINESSES there in BXU...

looking at Mindanao's untapped energy resources.....like the whole Agusan Basin as potential for its natural gas....the Lake Mainit and its river tributaries as potential hydro power....the wind swept Pacific coastlines from Surigao to Davao Oriental for wind energy power....the geothermal resources of the Cotabato Basin....and the Davao-Mt. Apo area...all can provide cheap, sustainable, environment friendly power sources that can power up the future of this idiotic government run country.

but for God-sakes, the national government is still more bent of pursuing bioethanol plants in Misamis and diesel run plants in Cotabato-Saranggani areas...all at the expense of the environment and total disregard of the more sutainable sources mentioned above right before their noses...

these diesel run plants and bioethanol plants are more likely manila-decided and driven....all for those probable midnight deals between our government's energy idiot-planners and those businessmen willing to give the payolas and bribes...

the Mindanao business group as headed by davao-based bizniz leader Joji Ilagan-Bian have issued several recommendations as early as a year and half ago aleerting the bwidespread bvlackouts that could hit at Mindanao's population centers...and so they are happening now...

7-hour brownouts affect Butuan businesses

abs-cbnNEWS.com | 02/11/2010 12:25 PM

MANILA, Philippines - Daily brownouts lasting 7 to 10 hours are starting to take a toll on businesses in Butuan City, an ABS-CBN Regional Network Group report said Thursday.
Owners of a local ice plant said they are losing money due to the brownouts, which start at 10 a.m. and last until 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines earlier said rotating brownouts continue to affect areas being serviced by the Mindanao grid due to low water levels in several hydropower plants.
"Contingency reserve is zero due to generation deficiency brought about by reduced capabilities of hydro plants (Agusan plants, 50% reduction and Pulangi plants-75 % reduction) due to very low water inflow," the NGCP said.
The NGCP said it gets 12 megawatts of power from electric cooperatives in the affected areas in the morning. It said the demand increases to 22 megawatts during peak hours.
The NGCP said the rotating brownouts could last until June due to the long dry season.

Jollibee outlets in Butuan is company owned. So I think it is absurd if their branches (esp.Jabee centro) will not be provided with a stand-by generator when they're supposed to be open 24 hours. :uh::laugh:

Power Consumption is relatively higher during daytime than night.... There is no need to shed power in the night when di masyado malakas ang kain ng kuryente unlike sa araw (unfortunately nataon sa business time) mas malaki consumption at mas mataas ang risk na mag over load!

that's what I think the reason..IMHO!

Power cuts in Mindanao seen due to El Niño

Zamboanga City, February 10. Hydroelectric power plants in Mindanao have reduced generation by at least 50% of their total capacity due to low water inflow of Lake Lanao and Pulangi River because of the onset of the dry spell.

Generating capacity is anticipated to remain insufficient with the unavailability of Agus 5 (Units 1 & 2), the Mindanao Coal Fired Power Plant (Unit 2) and the Iligan Diesel Power Plant. The Western Mindanao Power Corporation’s power plant in Zamboanga City also decreased its output from 90 to 80 megawatts as of February 9.

This pushed the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), as system operator to implement power load shedding throughout Mindanao . It will be enforced for the whole month of February as it projects that power supply will remain below comfortable levels.

NGCP Mindanao - Systems Operations (SO) head Eugene Bicar urged the execution of some measures to address the situation in the short term, like the completion of the Agus 5 Hydroelectric Plant (HEP) preventive maintenance and trash rack repair; resumption of the operation of Iligan Diesel Power Plant (IDPP) to be expedited by the Power Sector Assets & Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM) and the National Power Corporation and the contracting of additional power generation if there’s one available from embedded generations.

Likewise, Bicar said the completion of the repair of the Agus 2 – Kibawe 138 KV Lines 1 & 2 and the commissioning of Maramag – Bunawan 230 KV backbone project will also help strengthen the network interconnection of the Mindanao Grid.

NGCP informed that starting February 3, they have been requesting power distributors to begin additional load-shedding at ten in the morning instead of only past five in the afternoon as compared to January owing to further decrease in the generating capacity due to water inflow constraints. Three curtailment levels are currently set, first for 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; second for 12:31-5:30 p.m. and third for 5:31 to 9:00 or 10:00 p.m. The levels increase to correspond with the continuous upward trend of the grid load between 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Curtailment is automatically lifted as actual system condition improves.

Power distributors each have their assigned load allocation to maintain for each time bracket under the curtailment plan. NGCP closely monitors the load of each distributor through the SCADA equipment of Area Control Centers (ACC) located in Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Davao and General Santos Cities .

Bicar said, the cooperation of the distributors is vital to NGCP’s efforts at maintaining the balance of the Mindanao power grid, especially during red alert state. The grid operator is bound by provisions of the Philippine Grid Code.

It’s still all in the family in Mindanao’s political landscape

by Carolyn O. Arguillas/MindaNews Monday, 15 February 2010 15:20 Up for elections are the posts of 26 governors, 26 vice governors and 250 provincial board members; 56 congressional representatives; 33 city mayors, 33 city vice mayors and 300 city councilors; 422 town mayors, 422 town vice mayors and 3,376 town councilors.
In 2007, a total of 12,395 Mindanawons, many of them bearing the same family or middle names, vied for 4,930 posts across what were then Mindanao’s 27 provinces and 27 cities.
The 27th province, Shariff Kabunsuan, was abolished in early 2009 and returned back to Maguindanao after the Supreme Court ruled that its creation by the Regional Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao was unconstitutional.
Six new cities were created after 2007: Tandag in Surigao del Sur, Lamitan in Basilan, Bayugan in Agusan del Sur, Mati in Davao Oriental, Cabadbaran in Agusan del Norte and El Salvador in Misamis Oriental.
The pre-election period was marred by what turned out to be the worst election-related massacre in Philippine history – the Ampatuan massacre of November 23, 2009 where at least 58 persons, including 32 media workers, were killed. Except for six commuters who happened to pass the highway at the wrong time, the rest were part of a convoy from Buluan, Maguindanao to the provincial office of the Commission on Elections in Shariff Aguak town in Maguindanao to file the certificate of candidacy for governor of Buluan Vice Mayor Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu. The convoy was stopped by armed men reportedly led by Datu Unsay mayor Andal Ampatuan, Sr., who would have wanted to run for governor of Maguindanao, unopposed.
Ampatuan’s father, Andal Ampatuan, Sr., ran for governor of Maguindanao in 2007, unopposed with his youngest brother Sajid as running mate and their slate of provincial board members, unopposed. Twenty of 22 town mayors under Maguindanao then (at that time there were 11 towns under Shariff Kabunsuan) had candidates running unopposed.
Sixty-eight Ampatuans, 50 of them carrying the surname (at least 23 of whom are directly related to the Ampatuan patriarch) are running for top posts in the province. The patriarch himself is running for vice governor as an Independent, against three others, including his daughter Shaydee Ampatuan—Abutazil.
The Ampatuans were Lakas-Kampi (LK) leaders until a day after the massacre when the LK leadership expelled them from the party.
Fifteen Mangudadatus are running for top posts, most of them under LK.
But it’s not only in Maguindanao where candidates come from the same families, the same clans.
In Agusan del Norte and del Sur, it’s still the Amantes and the Plazas with the Aquinos now making their presence felt in both provinces.
Erlpe John Malbas Amante (LK) is running for a third term as governor with Vice Governor Enrico Raymundo Corvera (LK) as running mate.
Amante’s opponent is Roger Macabali Patanao (Ind). While Corvera’s opponent is Mercedes Bacalso Atupan (Ind).
Amante’s sister, Angelica Malbas Amante, who was governor for three terms before Erlpe John became governor in 2004, is running for second district representative against Independent candidates Jovitte Cabrera Calo, Van Amelio Dolofina udalan and Jore Maceda Lomongsod.
In Butuan City, Leonides Theresa Borja Plaza (LK) is running against Ferdinand Magdamo Amante, Jr., (LP), Romeo Cuenca Buyan (Ind), Teodoro Alutaya Emboy (Ind), and Roberto Gillera Rosales (LM).
Plaza is married to incumbent mayor Democrito Galido Plaza II, brother of the Plazas dominating the political scene in Agusan del Sur.
Mayor Plaza’s son, Randolph Borja Plaza (LK) is running for councilor of Butuan City while another son, Roscoe Democrito Borja (NP), is running for mayor of Nasipit town against reelectionist mayor Roy Orlando dela Riarte Doyon (LK).
Rep. Jose Sabijon Aquino II (Lakas-Kampi) is seeking reelection as first district representative of Agusan del Norte against Angelo Azuar Jimenez (LP).
Aquino’s brother, Roberto (LP) is running for first district representative of Agusan del Sur against Maria Valentina Galido Plaza (LK), the incumbent governor.
In the second district, the governor’s sister, Evelyn Plaza-Millana(LK), is running for 2nd district representative against Bienvenido Macapal Cebuala, Ceferino Salva Paredes Jr. (LP) and Reynaldo Mordeno Quijada (PDP-Laban).
Their brother, Adolph Edward “Eddiebong” Galido Plaza, is running for governor against Dominador Cebuala Miolata and Isoceles Piencenevaes Otero.
Another brother, Rodolfo, who is ending three terms in Congress, is running for senator while another brother, Victor, is running for provincial board member in the first district.
In Basilan, Jum Jainuddin Akbar (LK), first wife of the late Basilan Gov. Wahab Akbar, is seeking reelection as governor against five others, including Anak Mindanao party-list Representative Mujiv Sabbihin Hataman (LP).
The lone seat of Basilan in Congress is being contested by 11aspirants, among them a Rajam Mujamad (Aksyon) and Hadiiman Sabbii Hataman-Salliman (LP).
In Isabela City, Akbar’s third wife, Cherrylyn Santos Akbar (LK), is seeking reelection as mayor, against Alan Ritchie Bisquera Biel (Ind), Arnulfo Gregorio Dans (LP), Sihon Anji Indanan (Ind), Edwin Alvarez Pantaleta (NP).
Biel’s brother, Luis Bisquera Biel VI (Ind), is running for vice mayor against five others. The incumbent vice mayor is another brother, Luis B. Biel IV.
In Bukidnon, three-term governor Jose Ma. Zubiri is running for vice governor (LK) against Emma Puertas Asok (LP), Joevy Madero Baldevarona (Ind) while his vice governor, Alex Padua Calingasan (LK) is running for governor against Delfina Dorman Bicatulo (Ind), Diosdado Fredluces Tabios (NP), Ernesto Nazareno Tabios (LP) and Romeo Klem Zuce (Ind).
Former Rep. Socorro Olaivar Acosta (LP), is running for 1st district representative against Daniel Jambalon Onahon (PMP), Candido Pios Pancrudo, Jr. (LK), and Jesus Emmanuel Magbag Paras (NPC).
Acosta’s son, Neric, is running for senator under the Liberal Party.
In the second district, three-term Malaybalay City mayor, Dr. Florencio Flores (LK), is running for reprsesentative against Wienfiredo Eduave Agripo, Fernando Ma. Tiongson Carrascoso III, Joan Mae Tarnate Dichosa and Erwin Abales Marte.
In the third district, Rep. Jose Ma. Fernandez Zubiri III, is seeking reelection against Delia Saloay-ay and Salvador Garcia Galon.
In Malaybalay City, Vice Mayor Inigo “Inaki” Wuthrich Zubiri is running for mayor against Provo Balicao Antipasado, Jr. (Ind) and Glorio Dagacdac Sajulga (LP).
In Valencia City, Mayor Leandro Jose Hallazgo Catarata (LK) is running for relelection as mayor against former mayor Jose Magallanes Galario, Jr. (NPC) and Susan Calva Bangis (Ind).
In Camiguin, the Romualdos’ division in 2007 remains but the family continues to lord it over. The patriarch, former Rep. and former Governor Pedro Palarca Romualdo (LK) is running for representative of the lone district against Forencio Aranas Narido, Jr. (LP) while his son, Governor Jurdin Jesus Modina Romualdo (NPC) is seeking reelection for governor against Rogelio Adaniel Gallardo (LP).
Another Romualdo is running for vice governor: Nicolas Vicente Romualdo Elio (Ind) who is running against LK’s Leo Gales asacar and Juan Margarito Edon Neri.
In Mambajao, Noodin Efigenio Modina Romualdo is running for mayor against his sister-in-law, the incumbent mayor, Ma. Luisa dela Fuente Romualdo, wife of Jurdin Jesus. [Tomorrow: All in the family, too, in Davao, Lanao] (Carolyn O. Arguillas/MindaNews)

Jollibee shares GK mission
By Patricia Esteves (http://www.philstar.com/ArticleListByAuthorName.aspx?AuthorName=By+Patricia+Esteves) (The Philippine Star) Updated February 14, 2010 12:00 AM

http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/2225/gen4hires.jpg

MANILA, Philippines – Building homes for the underprivileged is an advocacy close to Jollibee chairman Tony Tan Caktiong’s heart, according to his wife Grace.
“He had a personal experience building homes for the less fortunate some years back. There was this indigent family living in a squatters area. When Tony talked to the father at the time their new house was being turned over, the father related that before, his son couldn’t look people straight in the eye because of where they were staying. However, when they already had a house, the son gained some confidence and was even planning to bring his friends home. The father, on the other hand, thought of looking for a job,” shared Grace, president of Jollibee Foundation.
“Tony realized that ‘a roof over one’s head’ can do wonders and transform a man because of the new sense of human dignity that comes with the new home. This sense of dignity can inspire a man to become responsible not only for his family but also for his community. Since Tony witnessed this transformation, he has embraced home building for the underprivileged,” Grace added.
“It is one of the reasons why Jollibee forged ties with Gawad Kalinga (GK) because they share the same vision and mission of empowering the less fortunate members of our community.”
“Jollibee Foundation envisions every Filipino to be able to access basic community services and live a life defined by dignity, purpose and active participation in nation building. This is also GK’s advocacy,” Grace said.
To date, Jollibee has built 200 homes for GK.
Last Jan. 29, Jollibee again formally turned over 49 homes to underprivileged beneficiaries living in a danger zone in Butuan City.
Jollibee has two other villages in Las Piñas and Southern Leyte.
Gisela Tiongson, Jollibee Foundation’s executive director, said, “Each village symbolizes their support to the GK vision of providing adequate housing to the underprivileged, thereby ensuring human dignity, welfare and decent homes.”
At the turnover rites, Tiongson said the Mahay GK village in Butuan is a part of a wider effort of GK, the Fr. Saturnino Urios University and the city government of Butuan to give safe and decent housing and basic social services to families residing along the riverbanks of the Agusan River which is a danger zone.
Out of harm’s way
The partnership between Jollibee and GK started in 2005 with the construction of the first Jollibee-GK village in Sitio Pulo in Las Piñas which now has a total of 51 homes. The beneficiaries lost their former homes to a fire that razed the whole community.
Belen Rillo, Jollibee vice president, said one of the remarkable things about the project was the participation of 329 employees from Jollibee, Chowking, Red Ribbon, Greenwich and Delifrance who volunteered in the construction of the houses along with the beneficiaries. Today, Jollibee continues to support the Sibol school in the village.
The second Jollibee-GK village is located in Bontoc, Southern Leyte.
The third village in Butuan, Jollibee said, is a testimony to the company’s commitment to take people away from danger zones and give them decent, safe and sturdy homes.
Sustainability, empowerment
Grace stressed the importance of sustainability in the three Jollibee-GK villages.
“It is important that we sustain what is now in place and shift the system, in such a way that the beneficiaries are empowered to help themselves. After some time, they should be able to take care of themselves. But along the way, we support and empower. Sustainability and empowerment are among the prime considerations with our programs,” she said.
At the turnover rites in Butuan, Tiongson reminded the beneficiaries to “be self-reliant and be responsible stewards of your own stable and vibrant community.”
“In the midst of overwhelming support from generous people, it is up to the community members how to make the most out of the opportunities that will come their way. We challenge you to become responsible stewards of your own stable and vibrant community. As our chairman Mr. Tony Tan Caktiong always says, dream big, focus on it and it will be realized,” Tiongson said.
The company plans to continue supporting the Bayan-Anihan, GK’s food sustainability program in which beneficiaries plant vegetables for their own consumption.
“In the Jollibee-GK community in Leyte which is more of a farming community, they tend a vegetable garden and are taught how to improve farming not just for productivity but also for their own daily consumption and we support that,” Rillo said.
“We actually have an existing program to link small farmers to the JFC (Jollibee Foods Corp.) supply chain but not in GK sites. Eventually when the community is ready and is able to attain their daily requirements from the Bayan-Anihan program, we hope we can help them move into larger scale and consider integrating their undertaking with our Bridging Farmers to JFC Supply Chain program. This is our long-term goal,” she said.

Power crisis in Mindanao worsens

BUTUAN CITY – The power outages in Mindanao have worsened due to the critical water level in the Lake Lanao and Pulangi River, the sources of the Mindanao grid, it was learned Monday.

It was also learned that the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) have forced hydroelectric power plants located at various areas in the southern island in Mindanao to reduce its power generation by at least 50% of their total capacity due to low water inflow from Lake Lanao and Pulangi River due to the onset of the dry spell.

In a press statement last Monday, the NGCP said the generating capacity is anticipated to remain insufficient with the unavailability of Agus 5 (Units 1 & 2), the Mindanao Coal Fired Power Plant (Unit 2), and the Iligan Diesel Power Plant.

It was also gathered that the Western Mindanao Power Corporation's power plant in Zamboanga City also decreased its output from 90 to 80 megawatts as of February 9, this year.

This pushed the NGCP, as system operator, to implement power load shedding throughout Mindanao. It will be enforced for the whole month of February as it projects that power supply will remain below comfortable levels.

Eugene Bicar, head of NGCP Mindanao-Systems Operations (SO), urged the execution of some measures to address the situation in the short term, like the completion of the Agus 5 Hydroelectric Plant (HEP) preventive maintenance and trash rack repair; resumption of the operation of Iligan Diesel Power Plant (IDPP) to be expedited by the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM); and the National Power Corporation and the contracting of additional power generation if there's one available from embedded generations.

The NGCP Mindanao head also said the completion of the repair of the Agus 2, Kibawe 138 KV Lines 1 and 2, and the commissioning of Maramag, Bunawan 230 KV backbone project will also help strengthen the network interconnection of the Mindanao Grid.

It was recalled that NGCP informed electric cooperatives and consumers that starting February 3, they have been requesting power distributors to begin additional load-shedding at 10 a.m. instead of past 5 p.m. as compared to January, owing to further decrease in the generating capacity due to water inflow constraints.

Three curtailment levels are currently set, first for 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; second for 12:31 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and third for 5:31 to 9 or 10 p.m. The levels increase to correspond with the continuous upward trend of the grid load between 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Curtailment is automatically lifted as actual system condition improves.

Power distributors each have their assigned load allocation to maintain for each time bracket under the curtailment plan. NGCP closely monitors the load of each distributor through the SCADA equipment of Area Control Centers (ACC) located in the cities of Butuan, Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, Davao and General Santos.

The head of NGCP Mindanao added that the cooperation of the distributors is vital to NGCP's efforts at maintaining the balance of the Mindanao power grid, especially during red alert state. The grid operator is bound by provisions of the Philippine Grid Code.

http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/243651/power-crisis-mindanao-worsens

the Mindanao Business council had made a forewarning 2 years ago about this impending power shortage that shall be more magnified among major cities in Mindanao whose concentration of enterprises and industries are more power intensive..the Mindanao Business group's recommendation was to expand the megawatt supply of the Mindanao grid...but again the idiotic power czar Sec. Reyes was too lousy to take note such call.....Lucky for him, NGCP and Transco, they have found a scapegoat in El Nino...

They say this soon to rise bldg.daw is owned by ASIA GLASS ( maybe they mean Asia Glass Palace). Since there is no Rendering yet, we can't be sure wether this will be a commercial building or Asia Glass warehouse.
