Hope they will have a nice concepts/ design of the hotel and convention... this gonna be an additional attractions in the city. Is it the same owner of that property in the city complex right?

wow....I cannot wait how 'first class' ba gyud ang hotel itukod dire... they have fenced the entire property this week....hope construction would start anytime soon.

the commercial arcade also will spur commercial activity in this predominantly residential part of the city ^^

big gyud sigurio ni nga development because hotel, commercial arcade and convention center man ang components sa project

daghan pa kaayo upcoming proposed commercial strips Reg....I mentioned earlier that old city hall site karon....

once the new Legislative building is finished, the old city hall building will be demolished and a new commercial arcade will rise...the property is owned by the Malvar's of Balanghai Hotel

Is coffee 101 is a national brand of coffee? i used to hang out this coffee shop at robgensan. Hope mag sugod na sila this year sa construction... para by next year ma open na and then its a good timing again when i get home. :)

I think Coffee 101 is a Gensan homegrown...until now wala pa homegrown cafe from other cities invading Butuan...looking at those Gensan and Davao homegrowns....I like Coffee 101 and Blugre or perhaps CDO's Taza Cafe to find their way into Butuan soon... Just like Butuan's Margie's who have penetrated the DVO market with a new branch at Damosa...perhaps soon a Visayan outlet too in Metro Cebu

Cathay Pacific will transfer to T3 from T1. Basi inig uli nimo naa na sila sa T3. Convenient na sa imo kay T3 pod ang Cebu Pacific.

Wala man problema kung naa kay excess baggage, i believe affordable ra man ang rates nila. Basi mas barato pa kung imo ipabalikbayan box (dili ko sure ani hinoon).

Kong mag move ang Cathay Pacific sa T3 before mi abot sa July 16 would be really nice. I'm crossing my fingers for this one kay conveniet gyod na kaayo labi na kay ang akong time window in between pag abot and flight to Butuan kay 2 hrs lang hopefully dili malangan ug abot.

Nangiyawat tawon kay magamit pa lagi daw diha... haay katong 7,000 gipalit na lang niya ug bag-o diha wa pa siya na hassle ug bitbit unya bag-o pa hehehe.

Hospital workers, patients to join earthquake drill
By Nora CL Molde

Butuan City (16 June) -- Hospital workers including doctors, nurses and ambulatory out-patients of MJ Santos Hospital are expected to join the simultaneous nationwide earthquake drill on Friday, June 18 at Montilla Boulevard, this city.

According to Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Caraga Regional Director Dr. Blanche T. Gobenciong, this year's Caraga region's earthquake drill will focus on MJ Santos Hospital where an estimated 250 workers and out-patients will participate on the said nationwide activity. Exempted from the drill are admitted patients and watchers only.

MJ Santos Hospital management requested the OCD to conduct the drill in order for them to know the needs and what to do in case of earthquakes while inside hospital premises. It is the pilot hospital in the city and even in Caraga region where the drill will be conducted.

Gobenciong also said that the conduct of the earthquake drill hoped to educate and help hospital administrators on how to respond before, during and after the earthquake.

Meantime, Gobenciong said that schools, hospitals and establishments who want to conduct the drill could coordinate with the OCD for scheduling.

Gobenciong said that they would provide a free briefing for the hospital administrators and participants on what to do during the nationwide drill.

The nationwide earthquake drill is part of the continuing implementation of the National Disaster Coordination Council's (NDCC) Four Point Plan of Action for Disaster Preparedness. (PIA-Caraga)

COLE VINTAGE

http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/8339/bohemian91.jpg

La Vie Boheme!

Cole Vintage brings back the 70s this summer with “La Vie Boheme!”
The collection celebrates the bohemian spirit and infuses it with a chic, luxurious aesthetic. Beautiful fabrics ranging from creamy neutrals to vibrant hues blend into an assortment of pieces exuding elegant eclecticism.
Add glamour to your summer wardrobe with the collection’s comfortable classics such as the maxi dress in flowing chiffon, cotton eyelet tops, one-shoulder jersey ensembles and floral tunics. Don’t be afraid to mix and match! Experiment and find your inner free spirit by pairing floral ruffled voile blouses with paisley satin-trimmed shorts. And who can forget the jumpsuit? Rompers with ruffle detail and long sleeveless jumpsuits with romantic draping will update your wardrobe without sacrificing comfort.
The accessories in the collection fuse traditional gold and antique details with bleached rope to give an alternative twist on materials. Hobos and sling bags in rugged chocolate brown material, floral totes and overnight bags will provide you great company during your summer holiday. Complete the look with sexy t-strap sandals in dreamy metallics, multicolored snakeskin gladiators and gartered wedges.
“La Vie Boheme!” will provide you with everything you need wherever the summer of 2009 takes you.

thanks Fahd..its nice to know someone that loves history.

unfortunately, most Pinoys do not love history....that's why most Pinoys don't learn from the past...that he keeps doing similar mistakes over and over again..

The New SP Building U/C..

http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab140/regjeex/newspbuilding.png

The Honorable City Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II together with Vice Mayor Dino Claudio M. Sanchez and the Honorable Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod led the groundbreaking ceremony of the new 4-storey SP Building and Session Hall located at the City Hall complex , May 7, 2010.

City Hall employees , barangay captains and executives of the Dasta Builders, the building contractor, also attended the said occasion.

Costing P178 million , the edifice is one of the major projects undertaken this year by the present administration. The first two floors will be occupied by the Office of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Office of the City Vice MAyor and the 12 SP members. Each member will have an individual room with toilet facility while the third and fourth floors will be available to other offices of the city especially those that are not accomodated at the City Hall building.

http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab140/regjeex/sphall.png

The session hall will be constructed theater-style and designed to accomodate more than 300 persons while carpeted function rooms will be ready for various committee hearings . The building will be equipped with water sprinkler, elevator, paging system , alarm system and centralized airconditioning. An elevated covered walkway will also be erected to connect the new building to the City Hall and an exclusive parking area will also be provided to the City Vice Mayor and the SP members.

The City Mayor stressed that the construction of the building is long overdue. As he vows out from public service by not seeking reelection, Mayor Plaza wants to leave this august body a home as elegant as the new SP building.

The Mayor also led the groundbreaking ceremonies for the sprawling and modern South Market and Bus Terminal at Villa Kananga , the P150 million MDG Butuan Historical Park converting the dike area along the mighty Agusan river into a virtual theme park intended for recreational activities and tourist promotion and the P22 million Taboan Multi-purpose Flea Market Center .

Just came home from church this afternoon and I was amazed by the structural renovation of St. Joseph Cathedral's altar. Wow! gi-enhance ug make-over ang altar! :cheers:The church bought new sacramentals which will be placed on the newly renovated altar upon completion (I saw several wrapped huge statues near the altar). Actually there are three altars, the High altar (major altar) is between the two minor altars: on the left and on the right. The altars I presume will be Baroque antique style with gold insignias and emblems and can compete with the altars of Manila and Cebu cathedrals and basilicas. The diocesan shrine is just steps away from being granted Minor Basilica status.

Mao na gyud diay ni ang terminal sa pumpboat para Magallanes. The boat at the back dock at the port of Butuan City. Actually ang pantalan sa una sa Butuan sa una kay horizontally piled barks of lauan and apitong trees. Wala pay concrete pier sa una ug wala pay PPA. Ang barko kay mosulod sa Agusan River ug mobiyahe from the mouth to the city for about 30 minutes. Seguro ang barko sa luyo kay kadtong karaan nga barko nga Dona Irunia nga mobiyahe from Cebu to Butuan for three days. Then comes the three boats of Bisaya Shipping nga mag alternate ug biyahe going to Butuan City and Dona (Donya) Filomena, Dona Remedios ug Don Victorino nga mga FS boats. Naa sad ang Don Fernando Escano ug Don Calvino nga anha modunggo sa Ong Yiu. That was in the 1960's pa. Then nisulod ang Sulpicio Lines nga nagpabiyahe sa Dona Paulina. Then naa ang Cassandra nga nalunod with lot of casualties so with MV Butuan City sa William Lines nga nalunod pud. Wow those were the days nga kapoy kaayo ang biyahe. Ang ilang biyahe kay Cebu - Jagna - Binalbagan or Binone - Medina - Butuan mao nga 3 days ang biyahe.

Baroque-Romanesque style to be exact ^^

once finished the Cathedral and Shrine of St. Joseph the Worker will be one of the most beautifully decorated cathedrals in Mindanao ^^

More housing units mulled for Caraga
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
June 19, 2010, 10:13pm

BUTUAN CITY – The National Housing Authority (NHA) in Northeastern and Northern Mindanao regions is targeting to have more low-cost housing projects for 2010-2011, it was learned Saturday.

NHA authorities in these two regions said they are still in the process of land acquisitions as they are waiting for the approval of the project’s plan, which is already set for submission at the NHA central office.

In this city alone, mushrooming of housing projects is seen as more housing subdivisions are currently being constructed by private real estate and subdivision owners.

This city, the center of commerce and trade in the Caraga Region, is one of the fastest growing area in Mindanao due to its burgeoning tourism, mining and wood industry.

The NHA is replicating the housing projects currently conducted by the private subdivision developers.

The NHA officials in the two regions are already waiting for the approval of their submitted development plans to the Department of Budget Management (DBM), it was also learned.

The NHA officials, however, refused to give figures as to the proposed budget so as not to preempt the plan and the actual housing development program in the two regions.

In another development, in support to the legacy programs of outgoing President Arroyo specifically on poverty reduction, Agusan del Norte Gov. Erlpe John M. Amante reported his administration’s measures to reduce poverty among the constituents of the province.

Amante emphasized the importance of efficient basic services delivery as a key towards achieving poverty reduction.

food business e.g. restaurants and cafes seems to be popping here and there now....also convenience stores serving 24/7 seems to be going strong also.

for bigger investments.....real estate...with more land opened up by new roads constructed....middle income to socialized subdivision construction is also on the upswing....

then there's commercial center development and tourism facilities too which are the areas given incentives by the city investment board for investors to come in...

food processing of agricultural products to high value goods is also getting a lot of boost lately

these are the many sectors where to put in money in Butuan today

Bishop Pueblos spearheads planting of 2,200 tree seeds in Butuan’s Taguibo Watershed Area
BUTUAN CITY, June 21 (PNA) -– In his concern to protect the more than 4,000 hectares Taguibo Watershed Area (TWA), source of potable drinking water to the more than 150,000 city inhabitants in this region’s capital city, Bishop Juan De Dios Pueblos of the Diocese of Butuan is celebrating his 25th anniversary as Bishop of the Roman Catholic church by leading the tree planting activity of at least 2,200 tree seeds of various species next week.

During the tree planting activity on Wednesday, June 23, Bishop Pueblos, the founding chair of the Caraga Conference for Peace and Development (CCPD) and former president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CCPD), will be joined by other parish councils in the region, academe, other religious leaders, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13).

The tree planting activity that would be joined by at least 1,000 persons will be at Tagkiling area at Barangay Anticala here, inside the TWA.

Before the tree planting activity, video on the effects as well as mitigating measures on climate change and global warming will be shown at Anticala Barangay Hall.

The DENR, led by Region XIII executive director Edilberto S. Buiser, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Rosendo Asunto and Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) Jaime Acebu will produce the tree seeds and other needs during the tree planting activity.

The tree seeds that are set to be planted are falcata, acacia, rain tree, narra and fruit trees, said Butuan CENRO Forestry Supervisor 1 Greg Bayotas and team leaders Antonio Dacumos and Rogelio Bucong.

In a related development, in an effort to help the government’s global warming and climate change mitigation program, the CCPD is assisting the DENR’s environment preservation and forest protection program.

The DENR Caraga is currently conducting all efforts to stop the cutting of trees inside the watershed areas at various parts in the region.

A church-based multisectoral peace and development advocate in Caraga, the CCPD led by Bishop Pueblos had been assisting the DENR in forest protection drive and forest protection campaign.

From January to May this year, 1,318 pieces of undocumented logs with a total volume of 440.17 cubic meters as well as 376 pieces of lumber with a volume of 5,794.30 board feet were confiscated by the DENR in Surigao del Sur province alone.

The DENR Caraga also impounded four 10-wheeler trucks and a passenger jeep at the checkpoint for illegal logging in that same province.

With the help of the provincial government in Agusan del Sur and CCPD, PENRO officer Sixto C. Badua and Bayugan CENRO officer Consolador C. Mantilla, also reported the confiscation of more than 2,000 pieces of illegally-cut logs now temporarily deposited at Batohon area in Esperanza town.

Meanwhile, the DENR has deputized at 148 people to boost DENR personnel enforcing forestry laws and deter alleged illegal logging activities in the concession area of Picop Resources Inc. |(PRI).

Buiser said the deputized forest officers were composed of 43 members of the clergy, 45 from various religious groups, two local government unit executives, 24 local government employees from Bislig and 34 farmers. http://www.positivenewsmedia.net/am2/publish/Cities_And_Towns_23/Bishop_Pueblos_spearheads_planting_of_2_200_tree_seeds_in_Butuan_s_Taguibo_Watershed_Area.shtml

Surge in investments turning Caraga as RP mining capital
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
June 21, 2010, 4:38pm

BUTUAN CITY – The Caraga region is emerging as the Philippines’ mining capital with mushrooming mining investments, both foreign and domestic, officials said Monday.

Owing to its fresh water that encompasses the borders of the provinces of Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur, Northeastern Mindanao or the Caraga region is where the Philippines’ largest deposits of gold, nickel, chromite, manganese, base metals, and silver ore are found.

Mining is considered as the engine of growth in Northeastern Mindanao.

The Philippines is also third in copper deposit in the Asia Pacific region.

The conference of Environmental Justice held in Ulan Bataar, Mongolia on Sept. 22-25 last year already acknowledged the Caraga region as the emerging mining capital in Asia, said Regional Director Brielgo O. Pagaran of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Caraga region.

With the present Philippine Mining Act or Republic Act 7942, the Philippines has become the friendliest country for foreign mining firms as they are given tax holidays, a favorable free and prior informed consent guidelines and auxiliary benefits attached to the mining permits issued.

Todate, the Caraga region hosts at least 62 mining firms engaged in mining exploration covering some 103,643.25 hectares or 55.29 percent of the entire mining permits approved in Mindanao.

Including existing mining operations and applications, more than one million hectares of mining areas are potential for mining investments.

In the pipeline, 80 more Mineral Production and Sharing Agreement or MPSAs are pending for approval, 124 application for exploration permits and five pending applications for Financial and Technical Assistance Agreements (FTAA’s). Todate, at least 41 MPSAs are already operating in various areas in Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur and on Dinagat Islands.

At least 71 Applications for Production Sharing Agreement (APSA) have already been approved with 247,916.59 hectares while exploration permits (EP) also reached to 17 with 25,147.56 hectares.

The mining operations in the Caraga region has improved the living conditions of the people in the countryside as many villagers, mostly indigenous people (IPs), find work while tax revenues for the local governments also increased, Pagaran said.

you better invest in the tourism industry by putting up hotels here in butuan, we need more hotel rooms to accomodate foreigners and their filipinapartners , they are very discriminating kasi sa accomodation , they are willing to spend dollars for excellent accomodation

Caraga is not open for franchise. Company owned ang tanan Jabee sa caraga. This we learned when somebody from Surigao applied for a franchise pero gidecline kay dili daw open for franchise and Caraga.

my friends and family here is LA will be excited for inverstmetns in Butuan, i have already convinced them that its worthwhile.

aside from commercial establishments in the city center, it will be worth investing for processing plants. There is a big market in the US for natural ingredients because of the booming wellness industry. You may get hold of a list of these markets and their specific requirements. One market is for Organic malunggay powder. The US needs at least 2MT per month of this powder. If there will be more who will invest on agricultural product processing, it will have a big impact on the poor farmers of Caraga. Do send me a private message and maybe we can discuss some details concerning this.

:DMy family have a house in Pareja first st. Many boarders from AMA, doctors college want to rent our rooms, also i would think that area is gonna be busy especially if robinson mall in around the area, we even had selling agents want to rent our rooms, Actually we already have on student boarder that pays 900 peso, my sister told me that possibly we can add a room in the back, we already have three rooms. One is occupied by my sis, the 2nd her niece, the third is the student/boarder. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, i want to help my sis, i was thinking of adding a 4th room. she says she can possibly have 3 boarders for the 3rd room and 3 also for the proposed 4th room. total of 6.

Since your sister had started it already & seems like it's doing quite well, an additional room wouldn't hurt. Besides, this rental business in our City is now very much in demand. If you look around, more & more Apartments & Bachelor Pads are sprouting everywhere, mostly in residential areas. In fact, aside from foreigners, there are Companies who would even rent out a whole house for their Sales Manager who are assigned in Butuan (my best example for this is my grandparents house :D ).

Just give it a go. A total of 6 Boarders is manageable. Your sister can handle that. Later, when all goes well, that's when you expand your business further. Goodluck! :)

you can give this tip to SJIT's Madame Salas Reg...if she really wanted that remaining lot acquired, she may encourage the city council that the continued operation of that metal works (occupants of the dilapidated building) is a violation of building code and land use code and zoning code as they are near the school....forcing them to evict the site...

the other metal works store across this street along the demolished Jet Sinugba site is now closed and is now acquired by the the owners of this fenced vacant property (demolished building of Jets Sinugba)

Let's just hope this Strip Mall owner, Mr.Peter Dy will not commit
the same mistake as Mr.Albert Ong, owner anang Samping building
when he decided to have it rented to Luckychimes :ohno:

There's a big possibility KFC will be renting @ the Strip Mall, that is
if we based it sa ilang schedule when they said they'll open their branch
here in Butuan this year.

That's same issue Bob with the small building portion beside SJIT (in front of former STI) there's a small space there carenderia sold the place already with 7 milion i guess.. that's why the new nice and glassy building erected. :)
