Brunei is 'balangay's' 86th stop

abs-cbnNEWS.com
Posted at 09/05/2010 7:38 PM | Updated as of 09/05/2010 7:38 PM

http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/lifestyle/09/05/10/brunei-balangays-86th-stop

MANILA, Philippines - Three balangay vessels, built to resemble the ancient wooden vessels used by Filipino ancestors, were warmly welcomed last week in Brunei.

Tony Alabastro, a Filipino journalist in Brunei, noted that Brunei is the balangay's 86th stop and the second foreign country visited after touring 80 places in the Philippines.

He said a Bruneian archeologist set foot in Sama Tawi-Tawi, a replica of a 1,600-year-old sailboat dug up in the Philippines, and appreciated its historical value.

Citing voyage leader Arturo Valdez of Kaya ng Pinoy Foundation, Alabastro reported that Brunei Tourism director Sheikh Jamaluddin welcomed the 3 balangay and joined the tour of the state's soon-to-open Maritime Museum.

"We gained weight here in Brunei from the food given to us by Edel Bartholomew (Filipino Association in Brunei president) and the Philippine Embassy. We did not expect a grand welcome by the Brunei Tourism Director," he said, quoting Valdez.

The 3 wooden balangay -- Sama Tawi-Tawi, Masawa Hong Butuan and Diwata ng Lahi -- sailed off from different parts of the Philippines in July. Together, the 3 boats are off to voyage around Southeast Asia and China.

After stopping by Brunei, Valdez' group sailed to Malaysia. He said they are set to "cross the 560-kilometer Indonesian waters from Pemangkat, Kalimantan to Bentan island before Singapore."

104 infra projects implemented by military in 5 Mindanao provinces

by LTC Triumph Dominic G Bagaipo

Butuan City (3 September) -- The 52nd Engineer Brigade under BGen Romulo M Cabantac Jr AFP has completed a total of 104 Kalayaan Barangay Program (KBP) projects from 2008 to 2009 in the area of responsibility of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army.

KBP is being implemented in the hinterland barangays in the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Bukidnon.

The KBP is under the National Development Support Project (NDSP) and it aims to assist the National Government in its peace and development initiatives to establish a physically and psychologically secured environment conducive to socio-economic growth especially in the remotest barangays.

For these five provinces, the KBP projects are divided into school buildings, farm to market roads, water systems, electrifications, daycare centers and health centers bringing the total cost of poured in projects to P205 million.

There were 42 farm to market roads constructed, 18 school buildings erected, 17 water systems put up, 16 health centers institutionalized, six daycare centers established and five barangays energized.

Aside from the infrastructure projects, the residents are also benefitting from it because the Army Corps of Engineers implementing it are required to hire civilian labor from within the barangay.

Agusan del Sur has the most number of KBP projects at 49 followed by Surigao del Norte with 34. There are 18 KBP projects successfully implemented in Agusan del Norte, four in Surigao del Sur and one in Bukidnon.

For the year 2010, 42 KBP projects are yet to be implemented in the AOR of 4th Infantry Division.

"These KBP Projects have greatly helped in alleviating poverty and illiteracy, the two primary factors why insurgency exists. These projects are only a small part of the Army's commitment to achieve lasting peace and sustainable development for all of us Filipinos," said MGen Victor A Felix AFP, Commander of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division based in Camp Evangelista, PATAG, Cagayan de Oro City. I think it's easy for Dr. Cuenca since Dir. Ricafort is really close to her... It's good to have Dr. Cuenca as President kay taas kaayo iyang vision to develop more CSU as Education Center in the region. IMO, kung sa BXU lang nabutang ang PNU, malamang dugay ra ning sikat ng skwelahana...

I would like also CSU offer Major in English.. kay puro nalang Math... :bash::lol:

I think its better for CSU to offer courses that is not so available in the Visayas and Mindanao like Environmental Engineering and Sanitary Engineering. Caraga Region has a lot of schools offering Civil Engineering like SJIT and FSUU in Butuan; SPUS, SEC and SSCT in Surigao City and USEP in Bislig. Chemical Enginering is unpopular nowadays here in Cebu. The students' population here in USC and CIT-U decreased in recent years and it was already phased out at USJR. The Dean of the College of Engineering of FSUU by the way is a Chemical Engineer. Its alright for CSU to open Chemical Engineering as some subjects of this course is related to Environmental Engineering, Sanitary Engineering and Mining Engineering. Being a state university, CSU can open this course as they will not be encountering any problem in its maintenance compared to private schools who is dependent on tuitions only. CIT-U was even previously planning to phase out its Mining and Chemical Engineering because of the problem of sustaining it. Good that their alumni helped the school by sending scholars to study the said courses just for the sake of maintaining their number of enrollees.

This will be an insult sa integrity sa Board of Regents kung ma-approve ang usa ka proposal tungod kay CLOSE.

I believe otherwise. The CSU Board of Regents composed of the Madam Nona Ricafort, Dr. Cuenca, the NEDA Regional Director, the DOST Regional Director, the Faculty Federation Regent, the Alumni Federation Regent, the Student Federation Regent, and two prominent citizents will deliberate thoroughly on proposals regarding new program offering. A feasibility study is a requirement to prevent waste of resources.

We should be proud that CSU is gaining national recognition because of their mathematics programs. Lisod baya moexcell sa math kaysa english. he he he But after math, it would be best for CSU to develop Biology, Chemistry & Physics. These areas are very important for the Agriculture, Environmental and Engineering programs to make major leap.

It is very expensive to attain excellence in even one program. Thus it would be best for schools in Butuan to have their own niche. In this case mosikat tanan, madevelop tanan, walay away. CSU should focus in Science & Technology (the most expensive programs because of the required laboratories ). FSUU should focus on Languages, Arts, Social Sciences, Philosophy and Law. SJIT should focus on Maritime and Criminology Studies. BDC should focus on Medical and Health Allied courses.

THE fastfood known for its “Finger lickin’ good” slogan will once again be seen at Limketkai Center as Kentucky Fried Chicken, more popularly known as KFC, has re-opened starting Sunday, April 18.

Ms. Airah Bonnet B. Seno, restaurant general manager, said the Limketkai branch was closed last month for renovation in their effort to provide their clients with a more comfortable dining experience.

The newly refurbished KFC branch still offers the same great-tasting chicken cooked using breading flour made with 11 secret herbs and spices in original and hot and crispy flavors.

Seno said starting April 10, KFC now offers two more flavors of its mouth watering Krushers – Mango Yogurt and Rocky Road. This is in addition to the present Strawberry Banana, Strawberry, Mocha Krunch, Caramel Krunch, Cookies and Cream, and Mixed Berries flavors.

But Seno said the Mixed Berries flavors – a combination of strawberry and blueberry – would soon be phased out due to “supply problems.”

Aside from the Krushers and the chicken that KFC has been known for, also available are the new creamy tomato and chewy cheese, crispy fries, twister, pasta bowl, tortilla bread, and other delectable food that would surely answer every person’s gastronomic cravings.

KFC Limketkai branch opened in 2000 as its first location at the site where the National Bookstore now stands but later transferred to a more convenient area, still within the Center.

An international company, KFC Philippines is owned by the Agustines family with over 200 company-owned branches nationwide.

In Cagayan de Oro, KFC has two branches – in Limketkai and SM City. But Seno said the company plans to open another branch in Divisoria in the third quarter of this year.

“We will also open two more branches in Butuan City and Iligan City within this year,” she said.
Aside from the Cagayan de Oro outlets, there are three KFC branches in Davao, two in Zamboanga and one in General Santos City.

Being a company serving 100 percent chicken, Seno said KFC blends well with the culture of the Muslims and Maranaos.

“We don’t serve pork. Only chicken and beef,” she said.

With the presence of a lot of fastfood chains in the country, she said KFC is still a come-on among diners owing to the company’s consistent quality service and friendly crew.

This, she said, has what made KFC shines among the rest.

PIA Press Release

Mindanao LGUs, CSOs ink solidarity towards transparent accountable governance

By Carina L. Cayon

http://pia.gov.ph/?m=12&r=&y=&mo=&fi=p100909.htm&no=14

Davao City (9 September) -- The local government units and civil society organizations in Mindanao recently forged solidarity and commitment in pursuing and enhancing transparent accountable governance through local budgeting.

Some 20 city and provincial government units and their respective partner CSOs signed a joint commitment for "a Transparent Accountable Governance on Local Budgeting in Mindanao" on September 1 at Grand Regal Hotel here.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo also joined in the signing, confirming his support to the undertaking of the Budget Tracking for Transparent Accountable Governance in Mindanao (BTTAG) project which was spearheaded and launched by the Balay Mindanaw Foundation, Inc.

BTTAG project manager Paul Richard Paraguya said BTTAG project which is in partnership with The Asia Foundation (TAF) is "our initiative to strengthen the participation of civil society organizations in local budgeting in collaboration with twenty city and provincial government units in Mindanao."

Paraguya said the project aims to "raise the level of LGUs and CSO partnership on transparency and accountability in governance through the local budgeting process."

In the joint commitment, the concerned LGUs and CSOs pledged to specifically work together in "developing a mechanism (tools and technologies) for the tracking of the local budget process" which includes preparation, authorization, review, execution and accountability.

The commitment cites the intention to increase transparency and accountability of the 20 Mindanao LGUs in their local budget process and to improve the CSOs' access to local government fiscal information, particularly the local budgeting.

The stakeholders also committed to conduct policy dialogues among local partners with Congress and appropriate national line agencies using budget tracking reports, assessments and recommendations.

The LGUs and CSOs would also work in developing potential models of LGU-CSO engagement on BTTAG.

Paraguya said that part of the components and activities of the project are budget tracking, capacity building and media and policy advocacy.

Sec. Robredo said in his keynote address during the BTTAG launching that he is giving his support to the project. "DILG is behind you all in this endeavor because this is in line with what we want to do as far as DILG is concerned."

Robredo stressed the importance of the LGUs to engage with the CSOs in promoting transparent and accountable governance.

He said that aside from the CSOs, it is also important to engage with the ordinary citizens "who are being taxed." "The basis of engagement is information. In order for them to gainfully engage with the local government, it is important they be informed," he stated.

Robredo suggested that part of the technical aspect of "this journey" is to post for instance the budget of the city or province on the website, citing his experience during his term as mayor in Naga City. "We have to publish the budget of the city government and from how much we collect, how much we spend and the procurement of the city hall," he said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Ruthie Guingona of Gingoog City said in her commitment speech during the BTTAG launching, the gathering of the LGUs was a show of "solidarity, oneness as people of Mindanao in pursuing development and peaceful Mindanao."

"I commit in being one with all of you in this journey and in enhancing local budgeting process," said Guingona.

The BTTAG project is also in partnership with Mindanao Coalition of Development NGOs (MINCODE) through its Commission on Good Governance headed by MINCON (Mindanao Congress of Development Non-NGOs and Non-Government Individuals) Network, and with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The LGUs which are involved in the BTTAG project are the following: Butuan City, Dipolog City, Gen. Santos City, Oroquieta City, Ozamiz City, Panabo City, Malaybalay City, Tacurong City, Misamis Oriental, Cotabato City, El Salvador City, Iligan City, Marawi City, Surigao City, Pagadian City, Maguindanao Province, Digos City, Davao City, Saranggani Province and Gingoog City. Feature: People's Bank of Caraga - micro financing at its best
By David M. Suyao

Butuan City (8 September) -- It's again a crown for Agusan del Sur!

People's Bank of Caraga (PBC) bags three awards from the Land Bank of the Philippines for being the most outstanding rural bank of Caraga, best reciprocal business nationawide for 2009 and as most outstanding rural bank in the country also for the year 2009.

Signed by LBP President and Chief Executive Officer Gilda Pico and the Secretary of Finance and Chairman of the LBP Cesar Purisima, the awards were personally handed to Ms Carmelita Bilaoen, manager of the people's Bank of Caraga, during the honorary night on August 27 this year in Manila.

The awards recognizes the PBC as the most effective and active partner of Land Bank in the countryside credit delivery thereby helping fast tract progress for the benefit of its clients and the community it serves, while maintaining outstanding business relations.

People's Bank of Caraga started the rural banking business in 1972 bearing the business name of Rural Bank of Talacogon, with only four personnel operating. Today, PBC have 12 branches/ units and 13 extension offices with 421 workforce. The first award that the PBC received was in 2004 as Best Performing Program partner. Almost every year thereafter, PBC proudly receives various awards like Micro Entrepreneur of the Year from Citigroup in 2006 and for four consecutive years since 2006 up to 2009, People's Bank of Caraga maintained the honor of being the most Outstanding Rural Bank in Caraga Region.

In the national level, PBC bags the honor of being the third Most Outstanding Rural Bank in 2006, second in 2007 and finally the Most outstanding Rural Bank in the country in 2009. For two years, PBC was also honoured Best Reciprocal Business (2007 & 2009). Aside from that, the Department of Agriculture also awarded PBC with plaque of recognition for its participation in the Agricultural Guarantee Fund Pool, while Peoples Credit and Finance Corporation also awarded PBC with Golden Partnership Plaque in 2008.

But in spite of the honors that the PBC garnered, its management did not forget that they have social obligations. In order to promote food production and environmental protection, PBC, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur establish a demo farm practicing organic farming thru Friend Foundation in Barangay Lapinigan. They have also special projects with the indigenous people like community organizing with focus on health and education. They even sponsored a lakbay-aral in order to educate the lumads on vegetable farming. They have also extended financial aid to NGOs and government organizations and have extended cash assistance to storm Ondoy victims thru the Philippine Red Cross, Agusan del Sur Chapter.

With strong belief in cooperation and partnership, PBC is presently a member of the Rural Bankers of the Philippines, Rural Bankers Association Research and Development Foundation, Micro-finance Council of the Philippines, Mindanao Micro-finance Council and the International Micro Credit Summit Campaign.

With vision to expand its services more, PBC has its affialiate organizations namely Friend Foundation, Mutual Benefit Association and the newly created PBC Security Force. With never ending desire for progress, PBC management looks forward to even more effective and efficient operations for the welfare of the communities it serves in the years to come. Of polished granite, 7—foot statues, and flaming steel

www.carsu.edu.ph

http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab140/regjeex/csugate.jpg

by Architect Gloria Mae R. Barrido and Mr. Henson Dejarme. (Web administrator's note: This article was written days before the unveiling of the new structures in CSU for the University's Offiical Newsletter.)

On August 18, 2010, the Caraga State University will unveil its new structures to embody its continuing transformation from the old NORMISIST.

On this day, we shall be ushered into the University through a new façade. The general colors of the façade reflect the colors of the University. Its granite wall displays the logo ensigned with our name the Caraga State University. Immediately below this wall is a plant box to be planted with colorful flowering plants. These plants shall signify the University’s agricultural background, it’s fertile soil, and its incessant need to grow and to bloom to become Caraga’s leading university.

A bridge found next to the granite wall symbolizes both our collective and dynamic transition from a small institute to a state university and a connection that strengthens our commitment to offer our students a passage to a better life through education.

http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab140/regjeex/csu20main20gate20resized.jpg

[Photo at left: Architect Barrido's perspective on the new university gate.] On the gate, the letter “S” shaped as an infinity symbol means our commitment to excellence is open, unconditional, and unrelenting. Its placement at the center of the gate where the university opens its doors to its stakeholders is intentional, as if to say that the university's dedication to provide instruction, research, extension, and production is at the center of its meaningful existence and that learning should not be bounded by gender, economic and social status, cultural differences, race, or faith.

Several design factors, including cost and time constraints, had to be considered from the design stage through the construction phase of the project, according to Architect Barrido. The new façade is simple, straightforward, and functions, she states further.

The Governor Francis Burton Harrison and Congresswoman Elisa Rosales—Ochoa Cenotaphs

The Governor Harrison's cenotaph. The Governor Harrison and Congressman Ochoa cenotaphs on the University grounds will be unveiled to keep their memory and their significant contributions in our rich history and present day existence. Gov. Harrison issued Proclamation No. 4 on February 14, 1920 declaring the reservation of the 232 hectares of land for a very specific purpose. His cenotaph shall be erected at the Harrison bridge also dedicated in his honor along the main University avenue.

http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab140/regjeex/ochoa.jpg

The Honorable Elisa Rosales - Ochoa on the other hand established the Agusan Agricultural High School which was later converted NORMINAC, then to NORMISIST, and presently the Caraga State University. The cenotaph in her honor shall stand infront of the library building which also bears her name. (Photo at right is the cenotaph of Hon. Elisa Rosales-Ochoa. Photo was taken during the blessing ceremony of the cenotaphs last August 18, 2010.)

The two statues were carved by artist Gualberto Licong, Jr., who is a CSU alumnus. The design of the pedestals and landscaping wherein the subject is the main focus were the product of my architectural training says the petite, pretty, very young and obviously talented architect. A stainless steel plaque shall be installed on each pedestal on which are written the enormous contributions of Gov. Harrison and Congresswoman Ochoa.

The Hitachi Laboratory Marker
The Hitachi Laboratory at the S&T complex houses state-of-the-art robotics equipment donated by Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST) Philippines Corporation to engage students in the field of robotics and engineering. The design for the Hitachi laboratory marker was inspired by the appearance of a flaming fire, particularly when wind blows the flames. Two-inch diameter stainless steel poles were used to represent the flames . This new laboratory and new equipment should ignite a burning zeal and sustain the passion of engineering students to innovate, conceive, create, and discover new beginnings in engineering and technology. 100% board passing for CSU Agricultural Eng’g. Pioneers

by Engr. Sonia Ibarra-Buscano, CEIT - The College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) of CSU garnered a whopping 100 % passing percentage for the Agricultural Engineer Board Examination given by the Board of Agricultural Engineering in the cities of Manila, Baguio and Davao last August 23 & 24, 2010.

Successful examinees from Caraga State University are the following:

http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab140/regjeex/agengineers2.jpg

1. Galano, Ronald L.
2. Neri, Jean B.
3. Perante, Janice S.
4. Pondog, Anamarie J.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced that 213 out of 475 passed the examination which chronicles a national passing percentage of 44.84%. CSU’s remarkable performance is a milestone done by the pioneering graduates benchmarking the quality of higher education instilled to them.

Engr. Alexander T. Demetillo, CEIT Dean, expressed an awe-inspiring feeling when asked re board exam upshot. Apparently, it is a consolidated effort of the administration, the entire faculty force and, the students despite the odds of being struggling neophytes in the field. Factors include the scarce physical facilities of the university and lack of well-equipped Agricultural Engineering laboratory. Yet, superior instructions still aptly delivered. Worthy to mention is the three-membered team of the BSAE program under the leadership of Engr. Jula Mae Echalico as Coordinator.

CSU Grabs 7th, 9th spots in GE Board Exam 2010

by: Engr. Sonia Ibarra-Buscano, CEIT - CSU made it again!

http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab140/regjeex/getop2.jpg

Caraga State University (CSU) clutched 7th and 9th places in the recently concluded Geodetic Engineer Licensure Examination held in Manila this September 2010. An authentic tagline, “We made it again!”, filled the ambience of the CSU community especially in the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT).

Based on the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) result, the CSU passing rate is 88.89 % (8 out of 9 takers) which is a figure markedly up against the National passing of 38.50 % (154 out of 400). This asserts a trend-setting performance of this university’s GE program in engendering topnotch engineers and a prominent passing status.

The new Geodetic Engineers are the following:
1. Abarca, Jay O. (7th place)
2. Apat, Gladys Mae
3. Barrientos, Nino S.
4. Efren, Ronielo R.
5. Felias, Almer J.
6. Morden, Mark Anthony J.
7. Piloton, Romar Z.
8. Plaza, Gretchen Naneth G. (9th place)

As retrospection, GE recorded a four-year-straight notable board exam outcome in CSU history and in the national scene. Milestone embarked on 2007 with two graduates snatching the 4th and 8th places; 2008 with two in the 5th and 9th; 2009 with a 2nd placer, and this year with another two in the 7th and 9th spots. Summing it up, seven topnotchers for merely eight years of producing GE graduates with its pioneering batch in 2003. Solely missed by the university are the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 10th places to technically complete the Top 10 roster of the GE profession.

Sa kadaghanan na moagi sa boulevard ug sa mga nagkadaghan na mga businesses, unta himuon ug priority ni Mayor Amante ang total beautification of Montilla Boulevard and nearby areas. Ipanindot ang center islands from North to South tapos i-widen ug aspaltohon ang dalan. Sementuhon pod ang among lugar. Ayuhon ang guba ug pondir na suga.:lol:

Guot man gud ang dalan. Naa pa gyud ning mga sosyal na sakyanan sa mga taga Rainbow. Sila ra gyud ang tig congest sa boulevard. :bash::bash:

Fresh from the Grapevine:

Guys, I heared that Mr.Albert Ong ( owner of Samping & Dotties) had finally closed a deal with the De Jesus siblings for that "Big Joe" property for a hefty P36M (daw?).

No details yet provided by my source as to when or what will rise in that area. But if this is true, I hope Mr. Ong will push his plan of putting up that rumored "Largest" Hotel I posted here months ago.

Ilang hectares kaya tu? Sayang man gud ang Big joe nga area kay it looks abandoned na gyud :ohno:

Traveling A-Z: Agusan del Norte
By VINCE LOPEZ
September 11, 2010, 7:39pm

Described as a “haven of natural beauty,” the province of Agusan del Norte is a scenic masterpiece complemented by rich history.

Year-round rainfall characterizes the destination as it is located just outside the typhoon belt.

The province is surrounded by mountains and flat rolling land which dominates the landscape of the province. Known as “AgNor” by neighboring provinces, its nine interweaving rivers throughout the entire province serve as its geographical and historical highlight.

The sprawling river that passes through various municipalities in the province has been a source of Agusan del Norte’s pride. The province’s name itself came from the Malay word Agasan which means “where water flows”.

Agusan del Norte’s river is a pillar of the province’s rich history. Scientific discoveries show that early settlers of the province have been trading with neighboring countries as early as the 11th century. But aside from the rich history, tourists come to the province for the numerous beaches and breathtaking mountains.

The province’s 102 kilometers of marine coastline has eight prime dive sites. Agusan del Norte’s dive site contains rich marine life with soft and hard corals plus abundant reefs and pelagic fishes. Profile ranges from sloping wall to cliffs with depths from 40 ft. to over a hundred, with generally sandy floors; while the mountains contain an exciting trail for trekkers and mountaineers.

Fast facts

Dialect: Cebuanon and Butuanon

Festivals:

Baoto Festival - The festival pays tribute to the native “baoto” or dug-out canoe and is held every 2nd of September.

Lisagan Festival - A religious celebration showcasing Manobo dances and rituals, which re-enacts a miraculous healing in 1910 of a Manobo while dancing in front of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Araw ng Agusan del Norte – a celebration of the founding anniversary of the province of Agusan del Norte held every second week of June.

Points of Interest:

Lake Mainit –hailed as the deepest lake in the Philippines and contains rich marine biodiversity making it ideal for snorkeling, diving, or simply swimming.

Kalinawan River -The pristine and picturesque river is Lake Mainit’s only outlet. It holds historical importance as one of the oldest trading missionary routes in the Philippines.

Mt. Hilong-hilong –An adventurous trek in this mountain requires a climb of 4 ½ to 5 days which includes passing by seven waterfalls and seeing endemic flora and fauna.

Mapaso Hot Spring - This geothermal spring is ideal for trekking, camping, and swimming as well.

Sak-a Falls – engulfed with numerous falls cascading over huge boulders, developing into a natural swimming pool deep enough for a safe vertical plunge and wide enough for a satisfying swim.

Sumaliklik Falls - An exotic waterfall serving as a rewarding site for outdoor enthusiasts.

Agusan River - The long and winding river in the province’s capital, Butuan City nicknamed “The Timber City of the South”.

Historic Magellanes Marker - Erected in 1872 under Governor Maria Caravello, this historic marker commemorates the celebration of the first Catholic Mass in Mindanao.

How to get there:

There are daily flights from Manila going to Agusan del Norte as well as trips by sea daily from Manila.

Sikat talaga ang BJ dati. Parang naging Tourist attraction nga siya eh  Despite the Entrance fee na P100/head, dinadagsa pa rin siya not only ng mga taga Butuan, but also ng mga taga Agusan Sur na pumupunta dito friday palang para lang mag night life

Ang alam ko, owner ng Big joe ay Korean who is married to a Butuanon.

Speaking of CARITAS, I think it was BOB who mentioned it here before nga magtukod sila ug building @ the back anang ilang temporary nga gi-occupy nga building for now.

That 2T square meters lot is acquired by CARITAS @ P20M. A staff told me ang iyang nahibaw-an, it'll be a 5 storey building daw PERO DILI pa kuno this year kay bag-o pa sila naka transfer.

Again, sana,sana matutuloy ito :master:

...again, while @ CARITAS, I had the chance to take pic of their tapad nga D&V building.

Actually regj, nagkita mi ni Tita Edna (Sanchez) about 2 weeks ago. I really wanted to ask her about that lot. But since naa man gud mi sa haya (wake) of one of our relatives, naulaw man ko kay murag it's not appropriate man at that time.

IMO mas better man pud if ever SM decided on that lot owned by the Plazas kay duol ra man sa Filinvest, sa akong nadunggan (istorya2x sa Bank) mas they prefer that site kaysa Sanchez area daw. That is if if tinuod na gyud na. Basi SM (Segunda Mano) ra na ha hehehe..

GMA Network blocks TV5 expansion
Thursday, 16 September 2010 00:00

GMA Network Inc. is blocking the planned expansion of the operator of TV5.

In a filing with the National Telecommunications Commission, GMA Network wants the regulator to deny the application of Mediascape, a unit of MediaQuest Holdings Inc., to operate and maintain a very high frequency and ultra high frequency TV broadcasting system in 50 areas, including the cities of Butuan, Ormoc and Tacloban, the provinces of Zambales, Bohol and Albay and Coron Island in Palawan.

Last year, MediaQuest bought ABC Development Corp. as well as 70 percent of Prima Berhad for P4 billion to gain control of TV5.

MediaQuest is the media arm of the PLDT group.

GMA Network said MediaScape, formerly known as GV Broadcasting Inc., has “no legal capacity” to construct, operate and maintain any TV broadcasting operations in the country.

GMA Network said MediaScape is “operating in violation of its legislative franchise under Republic Act No. 8591.”

GMA Network said the divestment of the Galang family and Satventures Inc. as shareholders of GV Broadasting in favor of MediaQuest had no approval of Congress and the NTC.

Satventures owned 500,000 shares in GV Broadcasting, while the Galang family had 60,000 shares.

GMA Network said the sale or transfer is “precisely what is prohibited under Section 10 of R.A. No. 8591 amending Section 12 of RA No. 8169.”

Gov’t Distributes 159 Hectares to 109 Farmers in Agusan Norte
September 16, 2010, 6:26pm

BUTUAN CITY (PNA) -– Fulfilling its promise to help the landless farmers in the far-flung farming villages of Agusan del Norte, the government, through the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), has distributed at least 159 hectares to 109 farmer-beneficiaries in two farming towns in the province, DAR officials reported Thursday.

The awarded land covered a total area of 73,906 hectares in the municipality of Kitcharo, and 85,007 hectares of agricultural land in Jabonga town.

Forty farmer-beneficiaries from the villages of Bangayan and San Isidro in Kitcharo town and 69 farmer-beneficiaries in the villages of Beltran and Maraiging in Jabonga town received their certificate of land ownership awards (CLOAs).

Northeastern Mindanao (Caraga region) Regional Director Faisar Mambuay personally handed over last weekend the CLOA to the farmerbeneficiaries with the assistance of Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer Andre Atega.

"They had long been waiting for this issuance and now they have proof of their ownership to their lands," Mambuay said.

Farmers shed tears of joy upon receiving their land titles that have finally sealed their ownership to the farmlands they have tilled for so long.

They expressed their profound gratitude to the government for fulfilling its commitment to improve their living conditions by giving them a chance to become landowners.

Kitcharao Mayor Aristotle Montante and Jabonga Mayor Glecerio Monton thanked the national government for finally giving the lands that had long been dreamed of by the farmers.

“This is a big help to them,” they said in unison.

In their respective statements, the two local officials pledged to help the new farmer-landowners in increasing their farm production.

KFC re-opens Limketkai branch
Comment | More | By Terry D.C. Betonio

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

THE fastfood known for its “Finger lickin’ good” slogan will once again be seen at Limketkai Center as Kentucky Fried Chicken, more popularly known as KFC, has re-opened starting Sunday, April 18.

Ms. Airah Bonnet B. Seno, restaurant general manager, said the Limketkai branch was closed last month for renovation in their effort to provide their clients with a more comfortable dining experience.

Join our online chat
