DOE pushes for LPG as automobile fuel alternative
By Robert E. Roperos

BUTUAN CITY, Dec. 17 (PIA) -- With the primary aim to mitigate the impact brought about by high price of oil in the world market, the Department of Energy (DOE) pushed for the use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as an alternative fuel for automobiles.

In his presentation before the around 150 stakeholders during the Energy Industry Stakeholders’ Forum held Thursday (December 16) in one of the local hotels here, Mr. Jose Rey C. Maleza of the Department of Energy (DOE) Visayas Field Office said there is no problem when converting automobile gas engine to an LPG-operated fuel engine “because they have the same heating capacity and needs with the gasoline engine”.

Maleza also said an LPG-fueled automobile helps protect the environment as it minimizes air pollution. “Aside from that, based on simulation, in as far as speed performance is concerned, the LPG-fueled automobile is faster compared to a gasoline-fueled automobile,” he said.

Autogas is the common name for LPG when it is used as a fuel in internal combustion engines in vehicles. The same equipment is also used for similar engines in stationary applications such as generators.

Meanwhile, Maleza said Auto-LPG stations are only authorized to sell LPG for automobile purposes only and not for household use. Domestic or household cylinders are not also allowed to be refilled in any Auto-LPG dispensing stations.

Moreover, Maleza said LPG-station personnel must be certified or accredited by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). Thus, they must undergo proper training before they will be assigned to the station to ensure operation security.

Guys, I heared that Manny Pacquiao will put up a Boxing training gym here in our city. According to my source, this was mentioned by the Brgy.Captain of Brgy.27, Mr.Libarios during an informal meeting with some of his Brgy.officials & members. Mr.Libarios said that he will try to convince Pacman to consider Brgy.27 area as possible location for this planned training gym.

I hope this will push through

Cebu Pacific brings back dancing crew on flights

(The Philippine Star) Updated December 18, 2010 12:00 AM Comments (2)

http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=640275&publicationSubCategoryId=63

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines’ largest national carrier, Cebu Pacific, brought back its cabin crew safety dance, a fun video of its flights attendants that they introduced last October on YouTube, in time for the holiday season.

The dancing stewardess showed a great deal of skill in getting the safety message across. The video has already had six million hits and counting.

The publicity stunt isn’t new in the airline industry, but Cebu Pacific’s dancing flight attendants have made it big. Some passengers interviewed on TV said this method of telling passengers of the safety features of the plane is not effective. But many seem to favor it.

Cabin crew on select flights from Dec. 20 to 31 will perform the safety dance once the aircraft has reached cruising altitude. It has been previously performed only on two flights, one from Manila to Butuan and another from Manila to Davao, to gather passenger feedback.
“We look forward to spreading holiday cheer and the CEB culture of fun to our passengers, as they go home to visit families and friends, or take long-awaited vacations,” said CEB VP for marketing and distribution Candice Iyog.

“CEB has always been known as the fun airline, especially with our regular fun games on board. We remain consistent in looking for more ways to make flights enjoyable and convenient for our guests,” she added.

The safety dance is scheduled to be performed on the following flights:

Dec. 20 – Manila-Tacloban-Manila-Butuan-Manila; Dec. 21 – Manila-Taipei-Manila; Dec. 22 – Manila-Singapore-Manila; Dec. 23 – Manila-Kuala Lumpur-Manila; Dec. 24 – Manila-Cagayan de Oro-Manila; Dec. 25 – Manila-Seoul-Manila; Dec. 26 – Manila-Macau-Manila; Dec. 27 – Manila-Iloilo-Manila-Cebu-Manila; Dec. 28 – Manila-General Santos-Manila-Davao-Manila; Dec. 29 – Manila-Hong Kong-Manila; Dec. 30 – Manila-Osaka-Manila; Dec. 31 – Manila-Dumaguete-Manila-Dipolog-Manila.

Iyog reminded guests on board these flights to remain seated during the dance and to keep mobile phones turned off.

CEB operates the youngest aircraft fleet in the country with an average age of 3.25 years. The fleet is composed of 10 Airbus A319, 13 Airbus A320 and 8 ATR 72-500 aircraft.

It operates the most extensive network of 16 international and 33 domestic destinations from Manila, Cebu, Clark and Davao.

Gov't pushes use of auto LPG as alternative fuel for vehicles
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
December 18, 2010, 4:32pm

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Concerned about the high price of oil in the world market, the Department of Energy (DoE) pushed for the use of liquefied petroleum gas or LPG as an alternative fuel for automobiles.

The move was strongly pushed by DoE officials during the “2010 Energy Industry Forum” at downtown hotel and restaurant here over the weekend.

The energy forum is part of the continuing collaboration of the DoE and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to increase awareness among consumers.

Before some 155 energy stakeholders and local officials, DoE-Visayas official Jose Rey C. Maleza disclosed that there is a need to use LPG in an effort to mitigate the impact brought about by the high price of oil now confronted by all consuming public.

Maleza emphasized that there is no problem when converting automobile gas engine to an LPG-operated engine because they have the same heating capacity and needs with the conventional gasoline engine.

“Aside from that, based on simulation, the LPG-fueled automobile is faster compared to a gasoline-fueled automobile,” said Maleza.

Autogas is the common name for LPG when it is used as a fuel in internal combustion engines in vehicles.

The same equipment is also used for similar engines in stationary applications such as generators.

Some public community vehicle operators are already using the LPG as an alternative fuel for automobiles, and the DoE encourages more operators to use LPG to also minimize even their expenses.

However, the DoE officials at the Energy Stakeholders Forum warned that only Auto-LPG stations are authorized to sell LPG for automobile purposes and not for household use.

They added that domestic or household cylinders are not allowed to be refilled in any Auto-LPG dispensing stations.

The Balangay – A Voyage of Unity:
For the Philippines and Southeast Asia
First of Two Parts
By Former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos
December 18, 2010, 10:53pm

MANILA, Philippines – After sailing more than 14,000 kilometers in 14 months of hazardous, death-dealing and life-changing adventures, the “Voyage of the Balangay” completed its journey around most of the Philippines and Southeast Asia last December 13 at the Harbour Square Open Plaza, CCP Complex, Manila – against all odds.

The three replicas of ancient Filipino sailboats that made that epic voyage consisted of the Diwata ng Lahi (Spirit of the Race), Masawa Hong Butuan (Radiance of Butuan), and Sama Tawi Tawi (People of Tawi Tawi) with a hardy crew of 40 Pinoys and Pinays – including Badjao boatbuilders, Butuan volunteers, Philippine Navy and Coast Guard sailors, history chroniclers, and the team that planted the Philippine flag on top of Mt. Everest three years ago.

Lessons for all; directions for the leaders The successful completion of the “Voyage of the Balangay” from September 1, 2009 to December 13, 2010 carries profound lessons for all Filipinos, in particular a legacy of “best practices” for decision-makers and a set of fresh directions for incumbent elected leaders at all levels. In most of his presentations and media interviews, expedition leader Art Valdez articulated what these are – better than anyone else can ever do.

Town demands taxes, but mine firm cries harassment
By Franklin A. Caliguid
Inquirer Mindanao

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines—The municipal government of Tubay, Agusan del Norte, has ordered the closure of nickel mining firm San Roque Metals Inc. (SRMI) for alleged failure to pay millions of pesos in extraction fee and taxes and violations of environmental laws.

Town Vice Mayor Fidel Garcia said the firm’s repeated refusal to pay extraction fee and taxes prompted town officials to order its closure.

But Edgar Erice, chair of the board of directors of SRMI, said the move was a form of harassment.

“This is political harassment. As far as SRMI is concerned, we have not committed environmental lapses, we paid our dues and performed our social responsibilities,” Erice said.

He said the firm has a Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (MPSA) issued by the national government. As a Board of Investment-listed firm, SRMI was not obliged to pay extraction fee to the government of Tubay.

“The claim that we owed Tubay town and province of Agusan del Norte is illegal and baseless,” said Erice. “Under the MPSA, we are only bound to pay excise taxes,” he said.

Garcia said SRMI, which operates a nickel mine on 570 hectares of land in the town, owed Tubay at least P206 million. The mine is believed to contain at least 30 million tons of nickel ore.

“Mining is supposed to benefit our town, but what’s happening really was a conglomeration of grievances from nonpayment of taxes, environmental destruction and health hazards,” Garcia said.

Erice, however, said SRMI is being singled out by politicians in the town.

“The problem with Tubay politicians is that they are so involved in mining. They have mining interests,” he said.

unofficial reports coming in to me that Rosario's (fronting this building above) will be soon transferring / moving in to their new location along Ochoa Ave. The under construction near the new Caltex gas station in Ochoa Ave. is reportedly the new Rosario's resto....other shops fronting the D&V Building between that First Standard Insurance Building near Butuan Express up to Samping Bldg near Gaisano will be soon be relocated by reason you and I will be guessing from time to time :) . One of the scions of the owner of the property has reportedly signed the deed of sale na daw :)

We have two operational ports in Butuan pero para lang sa cargo. Regular ang schedule sa Escano Lines Cargo vessels sa Butuan Inland Port (likod sa Post Office). Tapos naa pod mga cargo vessels modock sa Masao Port in Lumbocan.

Once mafullydevelop ang Nasipit Industrial Estate, sa Lumbocan port na modock mga passenger vessels due to the expected increase in cargo vessels in Nasipit by then. This is the reason gidevelop ang Lumbocan Port. Naa na ro-ro ramp, etc pero naay portion sa port nga nadamage that needs to be repaired pa.

Butuan forms tourist police
Sunday, 19 December 2010 00:00
Written by Gold Star Daily

BUTUAN City -- In order to help boost up the region's booming tourism industry and help make Caraga a safe haven for both domestic and foreign tourists, the Butuan City Police Office forms its own "tourist police force" recently. Butuan City police director Banson Leleng said that such force was organized in order to focus, in addition to their regular details, on tourists arriving, staying and moving around the various tourism spots and destinations in the region. This is to assure them, he said, of their safety and security while enjoying their visit here in the region.

The city of Butuan which is the regional center, Leleng said, may also serve as the region's tourism gateway whether by the land, water or air transportation before such travelers may proceed to the other parts in the region. A similar police force was earlier created at the province of Surigao del Norte which personnel were mostly detailed at General Luna, Siargao Island of the said province, an island facing the Pacific which is already internationally known for its world class surfing breakers and hosting or serving as venue of international surfing competitions. Butuan City enjoys more incoming and outgoing flight schedules, shipping routes and bus line coursed through its ports and terminals, compared to the other places in the region.

The designation order signed by Leleng, named the following police personnel composing such force: Supt. Joseph Boquerin, SPO1 Elmer Dela Torre, SPO1 Dennis Estrosos,, PO3 Philip Caesar Tan, PO3 Andres Banez, PO3 Allain Chua, PO3 Maricris Amado, PO3 Rowena. Ytac, PO3 Noel Chis Roque, PO3 Russel Rafael, PO3 Walter Suralta, PO3 Allan Boligor, PO3 Lani Felicitas, PO2 Julius Avila, PO2 Russel Gonzaga, PO2 Rex Ofianga, PO2 Maria Carla Salino, PO2 Liza Catre, PO2 Terry Tabalado, PO1 Genelita Bugawan, PO1 Christy Cerojales, PO1 Desiree Espana, PO1 Medavin Gallentes and PO1 Joseph Madejas.

It should be noted that Caraga as a tourism destination can boast of its rich cultural and historical heritage and also vast natural attractions offering an unlimited adventure. Influx of tourists to the region both of domestic and international origin are expected this month until the early part of next year to observe the various historical and cultural festivities and also enjoy the regions naturally-endowed scenic spots. pia

Mindanao cities gear up to attract more, better investments

Davao City, Dec. 20 (PIA) -- The cities of Davao, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, and Butuan are formulating plans to attract more and better investments in their areas.
Representatives from these cities, as well as the regional offices of national government agencies, the private sector, and academe participated in a planning workshop conducted by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) to train local government units (LGUs) in strategic development planning to increase their competitiveness and therefore attract increased investments.
Increased investments will, in turn, create more economic activities and therefore raise standards of living and reduce poverty.
The workshop, which was held during the City Competitiveness Forum 2011 on December 14 at the Grand Regal Hotel, was supported by the LINC-EG Project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) which aims to increase the competitiveness of LGUs, especially in Mindanao.
The workshop consisted of discussions on the factors that make cities competitive and on the planning framework for increasing the competitiveness of LGUs in the country.
After these discussions, the participants, grouped into the cities to which they belong, assessed whether or not the current programs and projects of their respective LGUs help increase the cities’ competitiveness and attractiveness to local and foreign investments.
These assessments, which were based on feedback from the representatives of the business sector and the academe, were then used to recommend revisions to the designs of the programs and projects. The results of the assessments will be given to the respective city mayors for consideration.
The more important of the recommendations are conducting more consultations with the business community to ensure that the incentives provided them for investing actually respond to their needs; providing for incentives that would actually channel investments to where these are most needed; and ensuring that the infrastructure facilities that are needed by investors are available and at competitive costs.
Also recommended were the identification of a few sectors where the cities are most competitive in and the full development of these sectors, as well as the review of the city investment codes and comprehensive development plans, all of which have remained unchanged for several years.
Among the recommendations for Davao City was the review and updating of the city’s Incentives Code which was promulgated in 1994, and Comprehensive Development Plan which was last updated in 1996.
The results of the review of the city development plan will be used as basis for the updating of the city zoning ordinances. Moreover, initial plans for the development of the city’s tourism sector were formulated.
Among the activities that would be undertaken to develop the sector are the identification, packaging, and promotion of historical sites and wellness establishments that would serve to attract tourists into the city, as well as the obtaining of direct flights from Japan to the city.
In the case of General Santos City, the following strategies for enhance the city’s competitiveness were recommended: (1) the resolution, through extra-judicial settlement, of the right-of-way problems of the Circumferential Road and Food-Transport Terminal project; (2) the conduct of negotiations with neighboring towns for the use of a sanitary landfill for the city’s residual wastes; (3) the formulation and execution of an integrated household waste disposal education program; and (4) the computerization of city’s operations in a new investment promotion center by 2012. PRO 13 to conduct Christmas outreach
by Noel B. Najarro

Butuan City, Dec. 20 (PIA) -- Police Regional Office 13 officials and personnel is showing to the public that if it can sternly use its right hand in implementing law and order, but it also can adeptly reach out with its left hand to extend compassionate love and concern especially to the less fortunate.

Today (December 20), the officials and the personnel of Police Regional Office 13 led by Regional Director CSupt. Reynaldo S. Rafal, will be conducting Christmas outreach programs to three different sites.

Early this morning, a team to be led by RD Rafal and other regional police headquarters top officials, will be going to the Por Cristo Home for the abandoned aged, at Brgy. Abilan, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte to conduct a short program with the elderly and distribute gifts.

After which, the team will proceed to Brgy. Pagatpatan Housing relocation site, to again distribute Christmas packages to the less fortunate in the said area. Then they will be inviting the children housed at the “Bahay Silonganan” of the DSWD based at Brgy. Bonbon, this city to the regional camp where they will be treated with an entertainment program and some Christmas goodies.

“The emphasis of this years Christmas celebration is for the police not as a recipients of gifts but to be givers,” a top regional police official said.

PRO 13 sources said that the funds used by the police to buy such gifts was sacrificially sliced off by the police officials and personnel themselves from their compensation this month as to accordingly give more meaning to the spirit of the season which is, love-giving.

Earlier this month, the city and provincial police offices held their respective similar outreach programs. (The Butuan Star/PIA-Caraga)

New bridge to benefit Agusan Sur
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
December 20, 2010, 4:29pm

VERUELA, Agusan del Sur, Philippines – Economic activity is seen to boost farm production in the southern far-flung municipalities of Agusan del Sur after the new bridge was opened here.

Officials of this province were also elated by the assistance of the national government because far-flung municipalities nearby can now use this newly built bridge that was named the D.O. Plaza Bridge.

The bridge is one of the infrastructure projects built in the countryside by the national government in 2010 under the Department of Agrarian Reform-Mindanao Sustainable Settlements Area Development (DAR-MinSSAD) Project.

“This bridge is a big boost to our thousands of farmers along the southern part of the province because they can now easily transport their products to the market,” said Agusan del Sur Gov. Adolf Edward G. Plaza.

He also added that farmers in far-flung villages will definitely improve their yields while more investment opportunities will spur the economic agenda of the provincial government because of the free access going to the farm-to-market roads.

Agusan del Sur is considered as the “food basket” in Northeastern Mindanao (Caraga Region).

Meanwhile, more farmers in nearby Sta. Josefa town, also of this province, will soon improve their yield when the expansion of the Sta. Josefa Pump Irrigation Project will be implemented.

The expansion of service area of the projects was already endorsed by the powerful Regional Development Council (RDC) for funding by the national government, it was learned.

Agusan del Norte, Aboitiz firm cooperate on the environment
Posted on 11:06 PM, December 19, 2010

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- Aboitiz Power Corp. and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office of Agusan del Norte recently signed a memorandum of agreement to undertake various projects to mitigate the effects of climate change, a company statement read.

As part of this cooperation, Aboitiz Foundation -- the group’s social responsibility arm -- has started tree-planting activities in Barangay Amontay in the town of Nasipit, a project the company said it will replicate in other parts of the country.

Besides this environment conservation thrust, the company has also been engaged in community support in areas its units operate.

Therma Marine, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Aboitiz Power that operates a 100-megawatt power barge in Nasipit, awarded grants to 15 high school students in the town during the launch of Aboitiz Power’s corporate social responsibility program in the province earlier this month. The grant covers school expenses of qualified students until graduation. From the 15, at least 10 will be selected for college scholarship, the company said.

In that same event, Aboitiz Power also donated computers to the Nasipit National Vocational School.

Besides Therma Marine’s two power barges (the other one now based in Compostela Valley), Aboitiz Power also runs major power plants in other parts of the country, including the Ambuklao-Binga hydroelectric complex in Benguet, the Magat plant in Isabela and the mini-hydroelectric plants operated by Hedcor, Inc. It also owns distribution utilities like Visayan Electric Co. and Davao Light & Power Co. Aboitiz Power also plans to build a 200-megawatt coal-fired power plant project in Davao City. -- LGD

EU extends health support program
December 20, 2010, 5:07pm

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines and the European Union (EU) recently signed the 36-million euros Health Sector Policy Support Program (HSPSP) II representing the continuation of EU's support to the country's health sector.

The current HSPSP, which was signed by Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo and EuropeAid Cooperation Office Director Erich W. Muller in Brussels on May 2006, will end this month.

Local provinces that benefited from the first project launched in May 2006 include Agusan del Sur, Capiz, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, Misamis Occidental, Nueva Vizcaya, Oriental Mindoro, and Pangasinan, among others.

The HSPSP II will continue to push for sectoral reforms through financial and technical assistance, with a view to contribute to the government’s efforts in attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), particularly by improving the access to quality health services of Filipinos, especially the poor.

The second phase of HSPSP aims to ensure continuous and strategic implementation of the reform agenda, building on the lessons learnt and the gains and the momentum created during the implementation of the current HSPSP.

It seeks to address the weaknesses of the current health system, more specifically the delivery of services especially for the poor who rely on public facilities for both curative and preventive services. (Roy C. Mabasa)

Group formulates plans, programs to draw more investments in 2011
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
December 21, 2010, 3:54pm

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – In an effort to be more globally competitive in year 2011, the League of Cities in this second largest island in the country are formulating plans and development programs to attract more and better investments in their respective cities, it was learned Tuesday.

It was also learned that the leaders of the League of Cities in Mindanao are currently coordinating with their respective Regional Development Councils (RDCs), various Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Mindanao, and other notable investment groups and business stakeholders to formalize various business and development ventures.

The league is also closely coordinating with the Mindanao Economic Development Authority (MinDA) to tie-up with the government’s 2011 Mindanao Economic Development Agenda.

The leaders of the cities in Mindanao such as from Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, General Santos, and Surigao meet recently to tackle their business objectives in 2011.

In that meeting, Surigao City Mayor Ernesto T. Matugas, Butuan City Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante Jr., Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Vicente Emano, and Davao City Mayor Sarah Duterte were in unison in binding themselves to achieve their goals beginning next year.

Also in that same meeting, leaders from these growing cities, along with other concerned government line agencies such as the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) came up with several strategic development plans to attract more investments, both foreign and local.

“We are in unison. Our target is also to increase more economic activities that will reduce poverty in the countryside,” said Mayor Matugas.

Government’s employment generation in this new scheme will also spur and added livelihood and income to rural businesses, the Surigao City’s Chief Executive added.

The meeting of the League of Cities in Mindanao in Davao City was supported by the Local Implementation of National Competitiveness for Economic Growth (LINC-EG) Project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) which aims to increase the competitiveness of local government units, especially in Mindanao.

Butuan clan holds 1st grand reunion, Christmas party
By Robert E. Roperos

BUTUAN CITY (21 December) -- To celebrate the spirit of Christmas and to be able to acquaint with relatives, the Bustillo clan here recently conducted its first grand reunion and Christmas party in a simple but memorable gathering held at the covered court of Brgy. Obrero, this city.

Highlighting the reunion is the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected chapter officers inducted by Butuan City Councilor Ryan Anthony Culima, also a true-blooded Butuanon.

Inducted into office were officers of Bancasi Chapter, Babag Chapter, Pinamangculan Chapter, Ambago Chapter, San Ignacio Chapter, Doongan Chapter, and the Obrero chapter who played host to the activity.

In his speech, Mr. Edgar B. Rivero, Executive Vice President of the Bustillo Clan Organization composed of Board of Directors of every chapter expressed his thanks and gratitude to those who attended the activity.

He said the 1st grand reunion is just a prelude of the Summer Grand Reunion which is scheduled on May 2011. “I hope that our attendance this evening will double or even triple during our summer grand reunion on May next year,” he said.

Meanwhile, Councilor Culima also challenged the officials and the entire clan to organize projects that may somehow help not only the entire clan of the Bustillos but also the entire Butuanons.

Culima said one of the projects that have been initiated by the city government is to protect and preserve the environment by planting trees. He said, since the city government is eyeing to plant one million trees per year, he enjoined the public to take part in doing such noble project to mitigate the impact of climate change.

With these developments, the clan through VP Rivero accepted the challenge and vowed to support the project of the city government. (PIA-Caraga)

Biogen power plant set to rise in Agusan Norte
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
December 22, 2010, 4:44pm

NASIPIT, Agusan del Norte, Philippines – The Caraga Region, particularly the province of Agusan del Norte, will no longer be affected by power cut if the state-owned power corporation will push through in reducing their energy power supply to electric cooperatives in Mindanao due to the looming lack of power supply early next year.

The Biogen project developer, a European power firm, has started negotiating a long-term bilateral Renewable Energy Supply Agreement (RESA) with the Agusan del Norte Electric Cooperative (ANECO) who will then be the main off-taker for the electricity to be generated by the project, it was learned Wednesday.

The project developer of the Nasipit Biogen Power Plant (NBPP) proposes to use coconut wastes and other agricultural wastes as fuel to power a combined heat and power plant that will produce electricity during the first phase, and copra, vegetable oil, and biodiesel during the second phase, it was also learned.

Initially, the entire plant facility will consist of a 10-megawatt (MW) biomass power island and the biomass fuel system.

The biomass power island will utilize a combustion technology based on the step-grate system that is able to flexibly handle various biomass fuels in different sizes and moisture contents.

The Biogen project also intends to utilize coconut husks and fronds, agricultural waste from corn, abaca and rice, as well as sawdust from mills within the area.

Aside from electricity as the major and primary product, the project will subsequently develop other products in its various phases as dictated by market and investment forces.

It has also the option of adding waste heat recovery (cogeneration) systems to generate process steam that can be used to produce copra, biodiesel, desiccated coconut or distilled water from coconut juice.

Studies made by the European Biogen explorers who were already here found that there is enough fuel to consistently supply the needs of the project.

The project will not only provide an inexpensive, stable and sustainable source of electricity but will also increase the disposal income of farmers supplying fuel, it was further learned.

The Nasipit Economic Zone in the town of Nasipit in Agusan del Norte has been identified as a site for the multi-million-peso project.

As of press time, the European power developer is closely coordinating with the different local government unit officials and other power energy stakeholders for further documentation and processing of other papers for the proposed operation of the Biogen project that is tentatively targeted start in 2011.

Construction of the 12-M PNP Hospital to start soon

http://piacaraga.blogspot.com/

The plan is underway for the earlier construction of the 12-million Philippine National Police Hospital in the region, to be funded by the Department of Health (DOH).

This was announced by DOH Caraga Regional Director Leonita P. Gorgolon, during a press conference held at the DOH-Center for Health Development conference room, Tuesday morning.

Director Gorgolon said during the forum that she’d just been to the PNP regional headquarters at Camp Rafael C. Rodriguez, Libertad, this city to relay the formal information that the hospital will soon be constructed by January, 2011. The ground-breaking according to her is set on January 10, next year.

“Caraga will be the first region (in the country) to construct a Philippine National Police Hospital,” she said. The other regions according to the official were still on the process of bidding. In Caraga, she said, all the concerned had already been issued the notice to proceed.
She also mentioned that part of her visit to the PNP regional headquarters, Tuesday morning is to see the site together with top regional PNP officials. According to her that during their site-inspection conducted, it was found out that there were still houses and other structures existing at the soon-to-be hospital construction site. The occupants, she said were given enough time to transfer and to vacate the place.

The building will cost 12-million pesos according to Dir. Gorgolon with one million worth of equipment. The hospital is expected to be functional before the year ends next year. (Noel B. Najarro, The Butuan Star/PIA-Caraga)

oh no..may budget na diay ni og functional na before the end of 2011. ang P1million budget kaha includes all the necessary equipment aning hospital.

kaya kaha ana mabayaran ang hospital beds, administrative equipments(like computers, printers, etc) surgical and emergency rooms equipment, x-ray machines, airconditioning system, linens, doctors and nurses tables and chairs, lab equip..and so on...

basin building ra ni pero empty inside. even if its only an out patient hospital.

i am not pessimistic. pero sayang lang gyud ang kwarta ana. P13 million can make a big difference if it will be given to buy new hospital equipments and other peripherals for the existing city and provincial hospitals.

As of this morning, roofing installation works is already in progress.
Glass facade @ the ground floor level is now almost done.

The wide space @ the back of this building had already been cleared also
possibly for their parking or for another building to rise soon (their hotel?)
I am not really sure. Let's just wait & see in the next months to come

...and if you notice, the road (right side of 2nd pix) is BLOCKED.

I hope other developments around this part in Imadejas will also adopt Asiatic modernist designs too with a touch of Butuan ethnic style :)

LGU to plant 1 million trees
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
December 23, 2010, 12:07am

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – In an effort to help the government’s global warming and climate change mitigation program, the city government of Butuan is set to plant one million trees per year, official said last Wednesday.

The city government started looking wide areas for massive tree planting, not only in the Mount Mayapay area but also to other watershed areas around this region’s capital city.

“We (city government) are very much concerned brought about by climate change and we urged the public especially the Butuanons to join and support this program,” said City Councilor Ryan Anthony Culima.

Councilor Culima emphasized the importance of planting trees as the city government headed by Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante Jr. is geared towards planting one million trees a year.

“I would like to enjoin the public especially the Butuanons to take part in the project of the city government to mitigate the impact brought about by climate change where creatures in this planet are starting to feel and experience,” stressed Councilor Culima.

Culima said, with this global problem, each one of us must do our share not only for our present generation but more importantly for the future generation.

“Everybody has a vital role to play,” added the city councilor.

Currently, all line agencies of the government spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, (DENR) National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) and Caraga Conference for Peace and Development, and other socio-civic groups and non-government organizations are conducting massive tree planting activities at the city’s Mt. Mayapay.

The Surigao Development Corporation (SUDECOR), a logging and manufacturing company operating in Surigao del Sur, provided 10,000 seedlings of various species of trees for Mt. Mayapay Rehabilitation Project (MMRP), it was also reported by the DENR and NEDA.

The MMRP covers portion of the military reservation area in Butuan City with approximately 375 hectares to be implemented in three years.

Since May 2008, The Task Force has already covered 150 hectares or roughly 39.34 percent of the project target area planted with approximately 75,000 hills of fruit trees and various species of trees such as Mahogany, Acacia Mangium, Kakawate and African Tulip.

The planted areas are currently maintained by hired workers of DENR-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office and Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO- CENRO) closely supervise by PENR Officer Rosendo Asunto and CENR Officer Jaime Acebu.

Thanks for the info... This is not a solid source for me. Anyway, let's wait for 2,3,4, or 5 months... Tingnan natin...

Anyway, what i am sure of is that SM is not going to build a mall here in butuan.. But instead, they are going to build a hypermart. That is if they are still going to use their 2006 [or was it 2007 or 08?] report.

It's intended to have that kind of logo bai.. lagi man gud ang tag-iya sa mga cebu na gasiano ang some malls in davao...

like for example, country mall in cebu and gaisano south and gaisano mall of davao, isa rai tag iya.... mao na same sila logo..

and gaisano cdo, bxu, etc, lahi sad ang tag iya

Weird man. Pag tignan siya ng mga hindi familiar (like me), maiisip talaga na nahulog ang isang half ng logo. European-like sana yung look ng mga Gaisano building, sayang lang kasi hindi namaintain. :ohno:

Mao jud bai.. Anyway, few years ago, Gaisano is one of the best malls in the Visayas an Mindanao.. [except sa mga Metro. Di man sad siya mall] But now, Gaisano is considered one of the malls for the yayas and houseboys. They really depreciate a lot! Bati kaayo ang Gaisano na karon. Unsay pagtuo nila, ni sikat sila tungod kay mall sila? Ni sikat sila dire tungod kay wala tay choice!

That's sad to hear. I've never really seen Gaisano at its best. I was disappointed after visiting two of their stores in different cities when I was 11 years old, and that was in 2002 lang. First, we visited the poorly maintained Gaisano Mall (the biggest one) in Cagayan de Oro, then a couple of days later, we dropped by another poorly kept Gaisano store in Ozamiz (but left immediately, sa entrance pa lang, kasi the sight wasn't appealing) - we were on a land trip kasi from CDO to ZC that time. I dunno what happened to those stores now, if they've improved or what, I haven't visited CDO and Ozamiz kasi since that year. During its first few years in the business, could you say ba na Gaisano was almost at par with SM?

this is what I see in my dreams for Butuan....an economically empowered middle class with the young and emerging professionals as the driving force....the age group of moi....jsl....atebunny.... regjeex....james and ian and the rest who are young and forward looking in the spirit of entrepreneurship...instead of waiting til kingdom come for the government to bring them jobs....THEY create job themselves by building small to medium enterprises like this travel agency ^^

Thanks for the info... This is not a solid source for me. Anyway, let's wait for 2,3,4, or 5 months... Tingnan natin...

Anyway, what i am sure of is that SM is not going to build a mall here in butuan.. But instead, they are going to build a hypermart. That is if they are still going to use their 2006 [or was it 2007 or 08?] report.

they will no longer be using their 2006 report James. Remember, that there was another SM prime team who was in audience with the late mayor in 2007. One of their purpose was to gather updated socio-economic profile of the city. This was followed after by their attempts to scour the different parts city with sizable properties of approx 6 to 10 hectares...which triggered a rumor boom of an SM City rising in a barangay here and there :)

taking cue of its 6 to 10 hectare requirement...plus a big 10 hectare Robinson's development competition in the offing, I don't think a hypermarket development would bode well to an SM agressive competitive corporate move

I agree with you Bob... :)

they will no longer be using their 2006 report James.

When you're in Butuan, the place usually people go to is the GMall, where else?

There are coffeeshops too, that is if you just simply want to sit & talk & let your time pass. The most accessible is Margies & Cofi Talk since it's located along the highway, other Coffeeshops are quite difficult to locate esp.if you're not from here kay tua ra ba sa mga souk2

or you can also go to Almont Inland Resort for a swim or just hang out at their Mini bar for a game of pool & a doze of light alcohol if you're in a drinking mood :D

or if you're up to it, you might want to check out the Regional Museum & the Balanghai Shrine?
