there are bunch of those dry building in downtown Nyor... kung mo hilak palang ang hilak palang ang building, dugay ra nang na pintalan... bisan og pure white lang gud para neat :bash: pero since ang part sa building is not commercial one like 3rd or 4th floor murag room for rent man na diha... so murag wala na nila gi repaint kay dili man kaayo makuhaan og income...:bash: kung ako ni mayor, buhatan og resulution pag paint sa mga building every 1 year... sus neat and clean jud cguro ang syudad...

This building needs re-painting or bisan thorough cleaning na lang. Watcha think?

It's because there is no "middle ground" between Cold and Hot. When it's hot, it really is hot. When it's cold, it really is cold.

being a basilica and being an archdiocese don't go hand in hand. for example, Sto. Nino Basilica in Cebu is not the ecclesiastical seat of the Archdiocese of Cebu but Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.

bag-o ra nahimo og "shrine" ang St. Joseph Cathedral so if ever mag-level up siya into a basilica, basin dugay pa.

Daghan naman diocese diri sa Caraga ug ang tanan diocese sa Caraga, suffragan diocese sa Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro. If there is an Archdiocese of Butuan then the suffragan dioceses would be: Diocese of Surigao, Diocese of Tandag, Diocese of Cabadbaran, etc.

Puhon unta ma-elevate na ang diocese.

Butuan City gov’t honors Balangay crew
By: Robert E. Roperos

http://piacaraga.blogspot.com/2011/02/pia-news-service-sunday-feb-6-2011.html

BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 6 (PIA) – The city government here paid tribute to the 42 men and women who have made the country proud as they cascaded waves in some parts of Southeast Asia aboard the three Balangay boats bringing with them the rich cultures of Filipinos, in a ceremony held at the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Grounds, this city.

In his speech before the crowd estimated at around 1,000 who witnessed the awarding ceremony on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, Butuan City Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante Jr. said the city of Butuan and the entire nation is very proud to have the balangay crew as the modern navigators who brought with them rich cultures and traditions of being true Filipinos.

As part of the ceremony, heads of offices from the public and private sectors also gave tokens and awarded certificates of appreciation to the crew members for their exceptional dedication and commitment, making Butuan City in particular and Caraga Region in general, placed to another milestone of development in the world’s history.

It can be recalled that on July 16, 2010, the third Balangay Boat “Sama Tawi-tawi” was launched at Luna Compound, Brgy. Bading, this city where the crew started their voyage navigating the Philippine seas and some seas in the Southeast Asian region that includes Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia. Balangay team leader admits bringing back crew safe is the greatest achievement of their voyage
By: Robert E. Roperos

http://piacaraga.blogspot.com/2011/02/pia-news-service-sunday-feb-6-2011.html

BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 6 (PIA) – “With all the challenges we experienced in six months of traveling the ocean, the greatest achievement I have accomplished is to bring back the crew safe to the country,” thus said former DOTC Usec. Art Valdez when asked on the greatest challenges they experienced in the voyage.

In a press conference held on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Terminal here, Valdez reminisce the crews’ experience especially when they were able to catch up 15 to 20 feet waves. “Those experience only show that Filipinos are strong… that our race is determined to accomplish what have been targeted… that no matter happens, we, Filipinos will not surrender,” Valdez said.

Also, Valdez said, in every challenge they experienced, the crew only holds to their faith in God and with themselves. Thus, he said “we can never tell if we can go back safe to where we came from… This is the reason that I am thankful to God and to those who prayed for us because I was able to bring back the crew safe.”

Usec. Art Valdez is the leader of the first Mount Everest Expedition. He is also a former President of the Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines, a veteran mountaineer and a marathoner. It was in 2007 when he successfully realized the epic story of the successful ascent of Mt. Everest by two Filipino groups: one by male climbers Leo Oracion and Erwin ‘Pastour’ Emata, and the other female group - Janet Belarmino-Sardena, Noelle Wenceslao and Carina Dayondon. (PIA-Caraga)

Aguy, giingnan gani nga kung "cash" :bash:

Sige, ato bisayaon .....

Nakahibalo lang ko ani kay verytime mag book on line akong brother anang mga promos sa cebupac, naay mogawas nga option for payments: credit card or cash. If you decide to pay in cash, i-click nimo unya tagaan ka ug tracking number. kupyaha sa papel ang no. unya naa puy list sa mga banks nga mo appear kung asa ka pwede mobayad.. pag abot nimo sa bank, duola ang teller, ihatag imong tracking no.& tell her, bayaran nimo tu. Mao ra.

We've never tried this yet coz pag online bookings i-credit card ra man namo, but ako lang ni gi share coz this might help those who wants to avail of promos nga wala pay credit cards.

i tried this before atebunns (mga 2008 pa yata), there was no option for cash. basin later lang ni na-add nga option considering those who don't have CC who want to avail the promo fares.

anyways, a Unionbank debit visa card will do.

Lake Mainit dev't project underway
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
February 6, 2011, 3:38pm

JABONGA, Agusan del Norte, Philippines – A P10-million development project will be implemented at the 17,060-hectare Lake Mainit in this town to further boost its tourism industry.

It was learned that this tourism development program here will also help generate livelihood and employment opportunities for the villagers in this town.

This good news developed after the provincial government of Agusan del Norte and the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the development project in the area.

It was gathered that the TIEZA will finance the project under Phase 1.

TIEZA is a government agency attached to the Department of Tourism (DoT), and is also an agency to develop, manage, and supervise tourism infrastructure projects throughout the country.

The agency will also supervise and regulate the cultural, economic, and environmentally sustainable development of tourism enterprise zones (TEZs) toward the primary objective of encouraging investments.

It was also learned that TIEZA found Lake Mainit, the 4th largest and deepest lake in the Philippines, potential for tourism development.

Once the project will be completed, it is expected to attract more tourists, both foreign and domestic, since its one of the region’s canoeing sites and one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in Mindanao.

Lake Mainit is also surrounded by three other municipalities – Kitcharao in Agusan del Norte, and Mainit and Alegria, both in Surigao del Norte.

Meanwhile, Agusan del Norte Gov. Erlpe John Amante was elated with this new development and hoping that this tourism project will start very soon, said Vice Gov. Enrico Corvera.

FIRE STRUCK OLD CITY HALL BUILDING;
MAYOR AMANTE ORDERS INVESTIGATION

http://www.butuan.gov.ph/home/

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/6494/shot00021w.jpg

A fire of an unknown origin hit the Old City Hall Building of Butuan City 4:45 a.m. today according to reports of the Mayor’s Quick Reaction Patrol (MQRP) 101 who were on the scene.

The fire, lasting for more than an hour, allegedly originated from the old City Treasurer’s Office, which housed the City Commission on Audit Office (COA), then spread to other City Government Offices, including that of the LIGA ng mga Punong Barangay, Butuan City Manpower Training Center, City Comelec Office, Land Transportation and Traffic Management Office, Professional Regulatory Commission and the Vice Mayor’s Office.

Butuan City Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr. immediately went to the area together with other early emergency responders to assess the gravity of the situation.

“I am ordering a full and impartial investigation regarding this fire and the suspension of all Civil Security Unit (CSU) personnel assigned within the City Hall premises during the said incident, including its officers, pending the result of an impartial arson investigation”, Mayor Amante said.

“One of the difficult, yet immediate tasks, is to determine the extent of the files and documents lost due to this fire", Mayor Amante added.

It must be remembered that there is an on-going investigation by a Special Audit Team from the COA National Office covering alleged anomalous transactions done by the previous administration. The razed city COA office was the repository of the source data regarding the reported questionable deals.

Butuan Mayor assures Butuanons, flood and fire will not deter his administration
By: Robert E. Roperos

BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 7 (PIA) – Following the series of calamities which hit the city this year, City Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr. assured Butuanons that flood and fire – a veritable, as well as a literal, baptism of water and fire for his administration – will not deter him from righteously governing the local government unit.

In a press statement issued by the city hall on Saturday (Feb. 5), the city chief stressed that he is very disheartened by the series of misfortunes that befell the Butuanons.

“While, my heart aches reflecting upon the damage caused by the recent flooding, I am truly devastated by this fire that gutted the old City Hall building where the City Commission on Audit (COA) Office is located,” the official said.

Mayor Amante added the recent fire is preventable that is why the official is upset over the incident. He also said the incident comes after the worst flooding experienced by the local folks here in recent years.

Amante said records that are very crucial in instituting changes in the city has been lost but the official is still hoping and praying that said records are still retrievable.

It can be recalled that the city has experienced two massive floodings during the start of the year displacing number of families and properties. On Friday, February 1, a fire razed the old city hall building at around 4:00 a.m.

As of press time, the city government is conducting an investigation on the incident. The damage to properties was estimated at around P15 million. (PIA-Caraga)

Robinsons Land to expand on all fronts

MANILA, Philippines - Robinsons Land Corp. (RLC) is accelerating expansion across all its business segments with capital expenditures seen to rise by almost 40 percent this year to P9 billion in a move aimed at further boosting its presence and securing profitable long-term growth.

RLC president and chief operating officer Frederick Go said the company is building four malls and two office buildings this year to take advantage of a growing economy and steady inflows from Filipinos living and working abroad. Among the new malls scheduled for construction this year are in Pangasinan, Palawan, New Manila and Cebu, he said.

“We are very optimistic about the real estate industry. There is general confidence in the economy and the growing business process outsourcing sector and OFW remittances are supporting consumer spending,” Go said.

Go said the programmed capital budget, which is significantly higher than the P6.5 billion spent last year, excludes special land acquisitions that the company intends to pursue to capitalize on strong demand for residential properties. The company is looking to acquire two parcels of land in Metro Manila to be developed for office space.

For hotels, RLC plans to put up a total of 30 Gohotels in and outside Metro Manila over a five year period. Programmed for opening this year are in Bacolod and Dumaguete. The next sites will rise Palawan, Iloilo, Cebu, and Tacloban for 2012 and Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, Zamboanga, Batanes, and Gensan in 2013.

RLC is looking to expand overseas to further augment revenues. A planned stock rights offering of 1.3 billion shares, with a current market value of about P18.07 billion, is being planned within the first half this year to fund land acquisition, project construction and development, possible expansion in China and other general corporate purposes.

The rights offering shares will come from a planned capital hike from P3 billion to P8.2 billion of which 25 percent or P1.3 billion (at par value of one peso per share) will be subscribed and at least P325 million will be paid by way of the stock rights offering.RLC earlier said the increase in capital would give it “flexibility to access the equity capital markets in the future since the subscribed capital has almost reached the authorized capital stock.”

The company has offered to develop the 103-hectare Food Terminal Inc. (FTI) property in Taguig into a modern, world-class mixed-use development.

RLC has four integrated large-scale mixed use developments in Ortigas, Manila, Mandaluyong and in the future Magnolia Complex in Quezon City.

RLC is the property arm of taipan John Gokongwei’s listed flagship firm JG Summit Holdings Inc., one of the country’s largest conglomerates with diverse interests in branded consumer food, agro-industrial and commodity food products, textile, telecommunications, petrochemicals, air transportation and financial services.

Zamboanga Rob Mall is not also mentioned in the list, but their Go Hotel is included in their 2012 schedule. If i remember correctly, there was also an Article posted here before that includes Butuan's Go Hotel for 2013. Here in the above news, only Gensan is mentioned.

Let's just wait lang, kay di ba napansin nyo 4 Malls ang ginagawa nila every year yata? I t's possible our Rob Mall together with Zambo will be constructed in 2012 pa.

Kung makikita nyo nga yung RLC site nila dito, sa land filling palang, that can take months already.

in 2009, they constructed 6 malls (in Dumaguete, Davao, Cebu, Tacloban, Gensan and Ilocos Norte). in 2010, there was none.

so dili 4 malls every year atebunns.

PSWD reaches out to farthest barangays on relief distribution
By: David M. Suyao

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Feb. 7 (PIA) - The Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PSWD) has already extended relief assistance to 13,249 families or 73,747 persons, since the second occurrence of floods on February 1 that hit Agusan del Sur.

According to PSWD chief Josefina Bajade, day and night, her office has been occupied with packing and delivery of relief goods.

“During the day, we deliver the relief goods even to the farthest barangays, and at night, we repack the relief goods, each pack contain three kilos of rice, three tins of sardines, three packs of noodles, sugar, coffee and even used clothing if there are kind hearted Agusanons that will donate used clothing. Our unfortunate brothers and sisters need them badly. Even old blankets, mosquito nets, and other items that can warm the flood victims,” Mrs. Bajade said.

With the large number of flood victims, the PSWD has already delivered some 2,000 sacks of rice, almost a thousand cases of sardines, 1,376 cases of noodles, 230 cases of coffee, 205 cases of Milo and fivr sacks of sugar, as of February 6.

The volume of relief goods did not include the distribution that the PSWD made for the victims of the January 3 floods, which already reached up to 1,500 sacks of rice, more than 700 cases of sardines, almost 900 cases of noodles, around 150 cases coffee and around 130 cases of Milo last January 18.

“As of February 6, we have already served 49,172 families or 249,814 persons badly affected by floods. Today, we will leave after lunch, to again distribute the relief goods after we finish packing. The order of Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza is to reach even the farthest barangays affected by floods, especially the lumads. The governor cannot imagine how hard their life as of now. That is why we are on the double with our distribution,” Mrs. Bajade said.

The recent flood that hit Agusan del Sur has left behind some 21,000 families or 111,000 persons as victims of flood, P94,747,100 damages in infrastructure and some P540,000 in agriculture. (PIA-Agusan del Sur)

Baka Robinsons Place Quezon City yung real name. Robinsons Galleria at Robinsons Nova Market man kasi yung names ng dalawang Robinsons sa QC ngayon. Here's an older version of the article na nagmemention dun sa apat na malls. December or January na yan ni-release. Yun din naisip ko, na mga under construction Rob Malls lang yung sinali. :)

Robinsons to open 31st mall in Palawan; hotel to follow (http://cuervo.com.ph/real-estate/robinsons-to-open-31st-mall-in-palawan-hotel-to-follow.html)

GOKONGWEI-led property developer Robinsons Land Corp. will open in Palawan in November its 31st shopping mall in the country, ahead of a residential project and a hotel.

...

Last year, Robinsons Land began the construction of its first shopping mall in the Northern Luzon province of Pangasinan as part of a P9-billion capital spending program.

...

The company plans to open new malls in Cebu and Quezon City next year.

Yep, that's true sir. Nasa 7 hectares na yung nabili ng RLC dito pero they're still expanding their property. Nakikipagnegotiate pa sila sa mga adjacent residential areas. Sabi rin sa news na nasa process pa ng pagpapalit ng pangalan sa Titles yung RLC ngayon. :)

i don't really get it why some people are born to have this crab mentality. they only want their city to progress but are not happy with the progress of another city.

this is also a reminder that they're not the ones who do the planning for the development of their place. they're just mere spectators of what's going on around them.

It's just a matter of time mrboy, there's no doubt Zambo RLC tarps will be put up soon.

Dito nga rin in Butuan, the entire lot of RLC property will still have to be land filled then compacted. How many months
do you think will it take to do that? baka aabutin pa ng one year (say 2012?) before they can even start the actual mall construction.

Robinsons Land to expand on all fronts
http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=655013&publicationSubCategoryId=66

By Zinnia B. Dela Peña (The Philippine Star) Updated February 07, 2011 12:00 AM Comments (0)

Do not worry guys. This is a very inaccurate news article. How come CEB will put up agad a Hotel in Batanes when they do not even fly to Basco? Right now, only SEAIR is having regular flights to this destination.

Maybe hindi kilala ng nag-encode ang Butuan at Batanes lang alam niya kaya he did the liberty of changing it. In the official tarps of CEB, it is BUTUAN and not BATANES.

Speaking of Superpalengke and Gaisano, I guess Langihan needs a Gaisano more than Bancasi. Watcha think? I think somebody's just messing up with Wikipedia about this Gaisano Super City West Butuan (whew! whatta name!) and Gaisano Butuan 2.

Where did he/she/they/it get these infos?

for me, the south part is not yet ready. foot traffic should greatly increase in that area before this kind of business will invest. i think through time, the south part will have its share.

what happened to that south market? wala pa gihapon ni-resume?

I think the order will be once there is a major establishment in an area....downstream development follows.

this means, we really dont have to wait for the south part to be filled with houses before somebody put a mall there.

take a look at Gmall for instance....that used to be very quiet area with very minimal foot traffic. then after Gmall was built....restos followed....then so were the banks and other buildings

It's possible BASCO will have a GO HOTEL in the future but not this soon. They do not fly to Batanes yet. The population of Batanes is very small but the place is really a paradise. The reason this paradise failed to catch up with Boracay is because it is always battered by typhoons. Being trapped in this place is a big hassle specially for those with connecting flights to other destinations. Anyway, for me BATANES is still worth exploring. Like what i said, it is one hell of a paradise.

wala man gani to nadayon ang D.O. Plaza Shopping Mall sa una. nindot daw kaayo og design (RF Cemine ang architect ato). mura daw og Ketkai according to my HS classmate nga niece ni Engr. Cemine.

The Plaza Mall should have been the first Mall in Butuan. But the Plaza's were not able to establish it due to the sickness of DO Plaza (the father of Boy Daku). They spent so much for his operations and consultations/treatments here and abroad pero di siya gumaling. Sayang nga kasi may Korean Investors na papasok na sana.

Mayor Amante supports log ban
By: Nora CL Molde

BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 8 (PIA) – Mayor Ferdinand Amante, Jr. has expressed his full support on the issuance of Executive Order (EO) No. 23 signed by President Benigno Aquino III, February 1, 2011 which orders a log ban all over the country.

“I am with the President in the signing of EO 23 on log ban and the protection of our environment should now be our concern and should come from us responsible citizens,” said Mayor Amante.

However, Mayor Amante said, the government should help the local government units (LGU) to formulate solutions in the plight of the more than 13,000 workers in Agusan del Norte and Butuan City and in all the affected regions which is now beyond the capacity of the LGU.

Mayor Amante added, that Butuan City LGU will support the move for a local Multi Sectoral Environment Summit to help the national government protect the welfare of the displaced workers and find solutions to protect, preserve and rehabilitate our environment.

“We also hope for fast tracking of the review on the programs and that management scheme of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as well as stricter implementation of regulatory measures by the same agency,” Mayor Amante said.

EO 23 prohibits the DENR from issuing and renewing logging contracts and tree cutting permits in all natural and residual forests. It also tasked the agency to review all existing forestry agreements and immediately cancel those that have violated forest laws.

EO 23, declares a moratorium on the cutting and harvesting of timber in the natural and residual forests, and creating the anti-illegal logging task force.

With the creation of the anti-illegal logging task force, the DENR is tasked to supervise, to enforce and lead the anti-illegal logging campaign and ensure the implementation of the EO. The DENR Secretary will chair it with the DILG and DND secretaries as well as the PNP chief and AFP chief of staff or their authorized representatives as members. (PIA-Caraga)

Feature: Voyage of the Balangays: Our culture’s pride
By: Robert E. Roperos

Thousands of years ago, the ancestors of the Filipino people, the Austronesian speaking people traveled from the Asian mainland by land bridges across the continental shelf to the South East Asian archipelago. They then sailed onward to as far as East as Polynesia, and as far West as Madagascar, aboard the ancient vessel – the Balangay.

The Butuan Boats (Balangay) represent an important part of the understanding of Southeast Asian shipbuilding technology. The Balangay gave ancient Filipinos the power to rule the Asian seas and became the vehicle of inter-actions among peoples of our islands.

Butuan has a special historical role as an ancient trading harbor that sent the first recorded tribute mission to the Chinese Empire from the Philippine islands a thousand years ago, and was the site of the discovery of the balangay boat relics and other important archaeological discoveries.

Route Highlights

On September 1, 2009, Balangay “Diwata ng Lahi” left CCP Complex, Manila to start the Voyage of the Balangay.

On the fourth day of February, 2010, Balangays “Masawa Hong Butuan” and “Diwata ng Lahi” left Butuan City to continue the Voyage of the Balangay around Mindanao and Southeast Asia.

Six days after the launching, Balangay “Sama Tawi-Tawi” left Butuan City to rendezvous with Balangay “Masawa Hong Butuan” and Balangay “Diwata ng Lahi” in Zamboanga City.

It was on August 1, 2010 when the three balangays left Paseo del Mar, Zamboanga City for travel to Sulu and Tawi-Tawi before crossing international waters towards Sabah, Malaysia.

Two weeks later, the balangay flotilla crossed international waters from Turtle Islands, Tawi-Tawi and arrived in Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia, its 81st port of call and first in international voyage. This is on August 15, 2010.

Two months after – that is, October 26, 2010, the balangay flotilla left Sihanoukville, Cambodia for the return trip to the Philippines after travelling around Southeast Asia. Sihanoukville is the 101st port of call and 21st in international voyage. During this period, the crews were able to visit the countries: Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and the waters of Vietnam.

November 16, 2010… the balangay flotilla re-entered Philippine waters from Pulau Banggi, Malaysia to Balabac, Palawan.

Nearly a month after (December 13, 2010), the balangay flotilla reached CCP Complex, Manila after more than 15 months of sailing around the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

It was on January 21, 2011 when Balangay “Masawa Hong Butuan” begins the journey home to Butuan City from CCP Complex, Manila, escorted by Balangay “Sama Tawi-tawi,” the third Balangay boat that is constructed in Butuan City.

The Voyage

The Voyage of the Balangay was undertaken to rekindle the maritime consciousness among our people and to reconnect our country’s present with its glorious historical past. The voyage aimed to bring us back to the greatness of our ancestors and how colonialism robbed us of our proud heritage and produced the Filipino of today.

The voyage affords us an insight and appreciation into our maritime past, a phase in our history that has almost been lost in our consciousness. The success of the expedition along the coastlines of the Philippines and the countries of Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, and waters of Vietnam confirm the trading constellation of the ancient Asian realms. The balangay boat has become the symbol of basic political governance in our country – the barangay.

Indeed, the voyage proved to the Filipino people that like what our ancestors have done, Filipinos can achieve any goal that they will work together to attain. The Voyage of the Balangay showed to our Southeast Asian neighbors that the seas do not divide us but actually unite us as a people with mutual interests and common aspirations.

The homecoming

On February 4, 2011, 42 navigators arrived at the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) grounds, in Butuan City, bringing with them memories they will always remember.

Not minding the risk, the crew, composed of professionals in different fields of specialization sacrificed their respective careers to give pride and honor to the country as they traced back the history of our ancestors’ migration across the oceans using only the native Balangay boats.

It is but fitting that these unsung heroes of the present generation will be given due recognition not only by Butuanons but as well as the entire Filipino race because of their courage and determination to trace back our history… which forms part of the Asian and world history.

During the ceremony, the people of Butuan, through the city government headed by Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante Jr. paid tribute to the gallant seafarers of the modern times as they rekindled their experiences during the almost six months of travelling the ocean traversing the coastal waters of the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia and Thailand.

Bringing with them memories, the 42 men and women-crew of the three balangay boats: “Diwata ng Lahi”, “Masawa Hong Butuan,” and “Sama Tawi-tawi” will always remain heroes in the heart and soul of not only the present generation but more to the future generations.

To the crew and members of the Butuan Global Foundation who made the voyage possible, we are proud of you… you have proven your words: “Kaya ng Pinoy” (The Pinoys can)… and indeed, you really did it! (PIA-Caraga)
