mike durero March 13th, 2011, 04:31 PM so ang surigao city na-incorporate sa SDN?
lahi na division ang mga city like Surigao city,Butuan city and Bislig City. There is also one division per province. An Cabadbaran ug bayugan tungud kay gamay pa sila na belong gihapon sila sa ila mother province. So the divisions are ADN, ADS, Butuan City, Siargao, Dinagat, Surigao City, Bislig City, SDS and SDN. so there are 9 divisions all in all.

jsl_bxu1206 March 14th, 2011, 10:56 AM National TVET Competency Assessment and Certification Week set
BUTUAN CITY, Mar. 14 – In an effort to strengthen the scale and popularization of assessment and certification and undertake a purposive advocacy to raise people’s awareness of the program, the National TVET (Technical – Vocational Education and Training) Competency Assessment and Certification (NATCAC) Week will be held in the months of March, June and August 2011.

One important feature of the NATCAC is the issuance of the National Certificate (NC) or the Certificate of Competency (COC) to successful candidates on the same day of the assessment.
The NATCAC in Caraga Region opens on March 28 and ends on April 2, 2011. Interested applicants are enjoined to visit the TESDA Provincial Office near them. (TESDA/PIA-Caraga)

msbunnybxu March 14th, 2011, 11:50 AM guys, wala pa lagi nag-resume ang construction sa SP Building. ipahuman man kaha to ni mayor amante.
i also noticed that the property at J.Rosales cor J. Satorre sts (right across Balanghai Hotel) is now cleared and fenced. para unsa kaha ni?
there's also a small commercial building for rent beside Pizzeria de Italia and they are still busy with the resto extension.
Mag resume ra na ang construction but I think there will be some changes na sa original design.
Which part? coz if it's across Balanghai hotel that is the regional museum compound pa.
Good,good for Pizzeria Italia

regjeex March 15th, 2011, 06:23 AM CSU website among the top 5 in the 12th Philippine Web Awards
www.pia.gov.ph
BUTUAN CITY, March 15 – The Caraga State University (CSU) website has been chosen as one of the top five semifinalists in the 12th Philippine Web Awards (PWA) in the schools category.
CSU was named one of the top five semifinalists when PWA released its list of semifinalists in all categories in their website last March 4, 2011.
This is the first time that the CSU website joined the Philippine Web Awards, a competition for the best websites in the country. The Philippine Web Awards is a yearly event that “annually recognizes the best Filipino-created websites and honors the individuals and teams behind them.” The CSU website is the only website from Butuan City and from Mindanao and the Visayas Regions that was included in the list of semifinalists in the school category.
The selection of the semifinalists was made according to the following criteria: design, technology used, content, functionality, and originality.
As published in the PWA website, the nomination period began Sept. 1, 2010 and ended last February 15, 2011. CSU barely made it to the nomination period when it registered its website only in the 3rd week of January this year. The initial deadline of nomination was last January 25. All entries went through the elimination round which ended on March 3 last week.
Similar to the past PWA’s, the public then can choose their bets among the semifinalists for the People’s Choice Award through online and SMS voting. The five selected websites after the semifinal round, who will compete for the Judges’ Choice Awards, will be judged by an elite panel that will include web design gurus and top IT journalists. The semifinal and final rounds will run from March 7 to 18 and March 21 to April 7, 2011 respectively.
The online voting for the People's Choice Award began last March 10, 2011 through their website: http://peopleschoice.philippinewebawards.com. For a school to win, or in this case for CSU to win, all who wish to vote should visit the website mentioned above beginning March 10 until the voting ends on April 7 this summer.
Among the previous winners in the schools category were De La Salle University (Manila), De La Salle University – Dasmarinas (Cavite), Mapua Institute of Technology (Manila), Endurun Colleges (Manila), Don Bosco Technical College (Manila) and current heavyweights and semifinalists STI (Manila) and Aquinas University.
The Philippine Web Awards categories include: arts and portfolio, blogs, community and portal, e-business, schools, personal, lifestyle and leisure, corporations, foundations and organizations, news, zines and entertainment, and SMEs
The CSU website participated the competition with the consent and approval of Dr. Joanna B. Cuenca, CSU President. It was developed and is currently being maintained by the staff of the ICT Center led by its director Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil and the website administrator Engr. Jeffrey T. Dellosa.
CSU hopes to earn the coveted People's Choice and the Judges' Choice Awards. It can be recalled that in 2009, the website of the provincial government of Agusan del Norte was named People’s Choice Award in the same competition. (CSU/PIA-Caraga)
regjeex March 15th, 2011, 06:26 AM Rotary Club of Butuan eyes partnership with ACE for golf tourney with a cause
By: Robert E. Roperos
www.pia.gov.ph
BUTUAN CITY, March 15 (PIA) -– The Rotary Club of Butuan is again seeking partnership with the Association of Caraga Executives (ACE) in the conduct of the 4th Caraga Executives Open Golf Tournament which is tentatively scheduled this summer.
In a meeting on Monday here, the Rotary Club of Butuan is asking Caraga Region’s group of government executives for the fourth time, to host the said tournament, aimed to generate funds to finish the construction of a new home for street children – the “Balay Silonganan”.
The existing infrastructure of the home for street children in the city is already dilapidated which gave idea to the said organizations to sponsor a golf tournament for which proceeds will be used to put up a new building.
To date, the building has been constructed and finishing touches is set to be made.
The tournament was first conducted in Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City in 2008; followed in Apo Golf and Country Club, Inc. in Davao City on April 24-26, 2009. Last year, the tournament was held back in Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City on March 19-21, 2010.
ACE is an organization of heads of offices from different government agencies in Region 13 which aims to further professionalize the corps of CESOs and eligibles for which the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Caraga Region is one of the active member agencies.
The ACE members do not only provide financial assistance through the members’ contribution to civic groups’ programs but also undertake outreach programs for the less privileged sector of the society.
This year’s roster of officers is headed by Atty. Rene K. Burdeos, Regional Director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). (PIA-Caraga)
jsl_bxu1206 March 15th, 2011, 06:59 AM P16 M earmarked for agriculture production in Ag Sur
By: David M. Suyao
AGUSAN DEL SUR, March 15 (PIA) –- The Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) will spend around P16 Million for the second quarter in order to extend both technical and material assistance to farmers to enhance food production from diversified farming to veterinary products, including job generation and tourism.
According to PAO chief Armando Lagumbay, the PAO will be spending some P5M for diversified farming alone for the second quarter, and another around P5M for agricultural enhancement for growth and productivity.
“One of the projects that we give more attention this second quarter is the multi-purpose drying pavement (MPDP) that will be scattered in selected municipalities province-wide. With this kind of weather we presently experience, our farmers really need these dryers,” Lagumbay said.
For the second quarter, the MPDP project alone will cost P1.3M. The PAO also set aside another P1,062,500 for the soil laboratory where technical agriculturist would examine soil samples in order that lands will be planted with the right crops.
Some projects given focused for the agricultural enhancement for growth and productivity are the pump irrigation open source/ shallow tube well with P25,000 budget, packet post harvest facilities with P18,000, fruit production with 512,000, banana production with P320,200 budget, abaca, cutflower and coffee and cacao with P577,175, inland fish production with P137,770, support to organic farming worth P100,000, meat processing with P500,000 budget and support to special projects worth P343,819.

For the Agusan Sur Economic Research and Business Assistance Center which will focus on livelihood employment and assistance program and the rehabilitation of water supply level III-PWS, the PAO has set aside another P465,828. PAO has also budgeted P750,000 for the establishment of Agusan Marsh Ecolodge for the second quarter. The project is expected to be completed this year. (PIA-Agusan del Sur)

MANILA, Philippines - Several branches of Banco Filipino on Tuesday said they were closed for a bank holiday.
A person in one branch said management is "fixing something with the BSP [Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas]." Banco Filipino officials couldn't be reached for comment.
Banco Filipino has been seeking P25 billion in rehabilitation assistance and P19 billion in damages from the central bank for the 1985 closure that the Supreme Court said was illegal.
Bangko Sentral Governor Amando Tetangco and two deputy governors didn't immediately reply to text messages seeking a statement.
Spokeswoman Fe dela Cruz said a statement would be forthcoming.
In a separate development, Banco Filipino's thinly traded stock was delisted by the stock exchange last week, together with four other companies, for failure to submit regular reports. ANC Business

jsl_bxu1206 March 15th, 2011, 12:58 PM At the Butuan and Zamboanga branches of the bank, a notice, signed by Banco Filipino Executive Vice President Maxy Abad, said that the bank is "suffering from extraordinary financial panic" which they attributed to "a well-orchestrated smear campaign," by the BSP.
"The bank is exhausting all efforts to protect its depositors by asking the BSP to stave off the heavy withdrawals by denying the derogatory news articles attributed to them and by providing emergency loan assistance after submitting sufficient collateral," the statement read.
"Despite the urgency of all these requests, we have not recieved any official word from the BSP/MB [Monetary Board] on the action they have taken, if any. Furthermore, we have also reiterated the immediate implementation of the approved business plan as ordered by the Makati-RTC. Moreover, the court order prohibits the BSP/MB, its officials, agents and any persons acting for and in their behalf from committing any act prejudicial to the operation of the bank," it said.
"Kindly inform and clarify this matter to our depositors and assure them that as soon as we receive official notice of any favorable action taken by the BSP/MB we shall advise them accordingly," the statement ended.

Basing on the figures above (albeit just budgeted), it seems that Butuan City joined the Billionaires' league just around 2009-2010. It is hoped that the city was able to surpass the budgeted revenue so as to make it more worthy to be called a "billionaire city".
However, the heavy dependence on its IRA does not bode well for the city. The reclassification of the 16 municipalities to cities will surely decrease its IRA share, thus its revenue bottomline. Hopefully the increase in local taxes for this year as a result of the surge of investments will outweigh the decrease in IRA.
To sustain a robust economy, I would suggest that the local government focus on rousing construction and tourism activities in the city because these sectors have high multipliers. In fact, Butuan may reinvent itself as a MICE hub in Northern Mindanao by enticing investors to build related facilities to take advantage of its extensive transportation links. The manufacturing sector shouldn't also be disregarded because huge investments and technology transfer usually come from them.
If we intend to attract high-end commercial establishments in the city (i.e. national/international boutique shops, coffee shops, specialty restaurants, malls), I think it is important for the city to build a bigger and more stable middle-class base. I'm sure we don't want to see businesses entering here but later on cease operations due to profit losses. The entry of call centers would be a good start as they provide a relatively high pay. I'm quite hesitant though in supporting the BPO industry due to its negative social effects.
Well, these are just some of my opinion. Hope I'm able to contribute in engaging fellow Butuanons in discourses about our beloved city. I share with you the optimism of Butuan's future. Ciao!
P.S. I heard that the MVP in UAAP Men's Football is from Butuan. Also, the Champion team, UP Maroons, has around three Butuanons in its roster. Guess Butuanons have some innate talents in soccer eh?

By: Nora CL Molde

BUTUAN CITY, Mar. 16 (PIA) –- The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Caraga region will launch Regional Geographic Information System (GIS) Center, this city.
According to NEDA-Caraga regional director Carmencita S. Cochingco, as the socioeconomic planning agency of the region and the secretariat of the Regional Development Council (RDC), their office will spearhead the institutionalization of a geographic information system (GIS) in the region as support mechanism for effective planning and resource allocation and management, policy making, decision making, investment programming and monitoring and evaluation of socio-economic and environmental initiatives, programs and projects.
This initiative will strengthen further the linkage between the NEDA, regional line agencies, academe, local government units and other stakeholders through data/information exchange, RD Cochingco added.
The establishment was made possible through the assistance of Korea Overseas Volunteers (KOVs) and equipment support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
KOICA will provide funds for the procurement of a plotter, a large format scanner, global positioning system and a GIS software.
The launching is scheduled on March 22 at the regional office of NEDA-Caraga. (PIA-Caraga)
regjeex March 16th, 2011, 06:51 AM Palarong Pampook 2011 update: Agusan Sur demolishes Surigao City, 1-0
www.pia.gov.ph
SURIGAO CITY, March 15 (PIA) –- Playing with high intensity, Jerome Carnote of Agusan del Sur football team demolished Surigao City football team as he exploded a seizing center kick that fashioned all 1-0 in the secondary football game at the provincial sports complex, March 14 in the afternoon.
Yellow athletes of Agusan del Sur showed shocking techniques that slowly crushed the defense of royal blue athletes of Surigao City. One athlete from Surigao City vomited at the height of the game in the first half due to the stinking smell of the muddy field. A yellow card was raised when Peter John Japona of Agusan del Sur committed a physical foul against his opponent. This foul did not overpower Carnote as he snatched a goal by a fearless center kick.
Surigaonons strived hard to bag a goal but Agusan del Sur did not gave them a chance and reigned the first half, 1-0.
The second half of the game harvested zero point for both teams ending up with a score of 1-0 in favor of Agusan del Sur.
Agusan del Sur football team is advancing to the championship round with a twice-to-beat of the winner of the next game. (Kristoff Polo Mosquito/PIA-Surigao del Norte)

msbunnybxu March 16th, 2011, 06:55 AM At the Butuan and Zamboanga branches of the bank, a notice, signed by Banco Filipino Executive Vice President Maxy Abad, said that the bank is "suffering from extraordinary financial panic" which they attributed to "a well-orchestrated smear campaign," by the BSP.
"Kindly inform and clarify this matter to our depositors and assure them that as soon as we receive official notice of any favorable action taken by the BSP/MB we shall advise them accordingly," the statement ended.

jsl_bxu1206 March 16th, 2011, 12:24 PM Tax campaign, venue to inform taxpayers on BIR’s plans and programs – BIR officials
by Robert E. Roperos
BUTUAN CITY, Mar 16 (PIA) – “The annual launching of the tax campaign will serve as an opportunity to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to inform the taxpayers on the agency’s plans and programs,” thus stressed Marilou L. del Rosario, Head Revenue Executive Assistant, Taxpayers Assistance Service of BIR Central Office, Manila during the kick-off of the 2011 Tax Campaign held Tuesday in a local convention center here.
To increase the tax collection this year, del Rosario said, BIR has re-invigorated the Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) Program by recommending Sales Monitoring with Denunciation, Lifestyle Check, and Registration Campaign in Groups.
Also, BIR Caraga Regional Director Nortberto Vitug, in his speech said, BIR enhances enforcement approaches by application of Computer Assisted Tools and Techniques (CAATTS), Monthly Selective Audit, and Benchmarking and Profiling of Industry.
The BIR regional director also highlighted the Oplan Kandado. “This is a quarterly tax compliance verification drive against those campaigning for non-issuance of receipts, and a pre-audit of 3% tax returns of non-vat taxpayers,” Vitug said said.
Further, Vitug said Task Force on Small Scale Miners was created as well as Task Force on Illegal Logging, and Task Force on Estate Tax Monitoring.
Furthermore, Vitug said this tax filing season, BIR will do whatever assistance they can give to taxpayers, such as but not limited to tax campaign kick-off, display tax campaign posters, announcement of tax filing deadlines thru tri-media, opening of tax filing centers, announcement of tax filing deadlines thru loud speakers around Butuan City, and implement taxpayer’s feedback.
Meanwhile, del Rosario lauded the efforts of the employees of BIR Revenue Region 17 based in Butuan City for having successfully met the tax collection target in 2010 for Caraga Region.
The official also hoped that with the successful implementation of strategies in the previous year, the region’s BR office will be able to achieve their target for 2011.
Report of the government agency showed that in 2010, BIR collected a total amount of P2,654,753,249.72 as against its assigned goal of P 2,580,959,000.00, exceeding its goal by 2.86% or the amount of P73,794,249.72. Collections versus Collections for the same year, BIR Caraga posted a growth rate of 20.42% equivalent to an increased total amount of 545,229,529.40.
Out of the P2.6 billion actual collections for CY 2010, Revenue District Office No. 103 in Butuan City collected P1,224,425,473.47 which is 46.12% of the same collection.
On the other hand, Revenue District Office No. 104 of Bayugan City contributed P489,949,136.53 representing 18.46%. Revenue District Office No. 105, while Surigao City shared the amount of P453,379,183.03 or 17.08% of the actual collections, while Revenue District Office No. 106, Tandag City contributed P486,999,456.66 or 18.34% of the good performance of this region. Taegon March 17th, 2011, 05:48 AM Northern Mindanao students attend journalism training
By Loui S. Maliza
Thursday, March 17, 2011
OVER a hundred aspiring student-journalists from Northern Mindanao are undergoing enhancement training in Cagayan de Oro in preparation for this year's National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) in Butuan City on April 11 to 16.
Maia Epra B. Magnaong, education program supervisor for reading and journalism of the Department of Education (DepEd) Northern Mindanao, said the students are the top three winners in different categories during the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) held in Iligan City on November 25 to 27, 2010.
Magnaong said the student-journalists are currently exploring new ideas from mentors as expectations to lead the battle are higher.
She said 56 of the 270-delegation are from the elementary level and 57 are high school students coming from different schools in the region who are vying for individual contests that include news writing, editorial writing, feature writing, photojournalism, editorial cartooning, sports writing, copy reading and headline writing and online writing.
She said another 28 students are set to compete for the radio broadcasting and scriptwriting categories.
"Exactly 141 students are set to compete in various categories during the national competition and it's going to be tough. This is one of the best ways to showcase the abilities of these students," she said.
Magnaong, a writer and a trainer, believes in the skills enhancement activities such as the three-day journalism training, which started yesterday at the Regional Educational Learning Center (RELC) in Barangay Lapasan, this city.
Among the resource persons in the training are SunStar Cagayan de Oro Editor-in-Chief Terry Betonio and columnist Enrico Ramon Lluch, Cagayan de Oro Press Club corporate secretary and veteran journalist Uriel Quilinguing, Nonoy Estarte of Xavier University and columnist Nono Montalvan.
Published in the Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro newspaper on March 17, 2011.

to be honest where not commission maniacs....our people are professional advisers for those who want to get ahead in their financial needs.
sadly, most Filipinos do not have access to the products PRU Life and other companies offer...
most Butuanons rely only on Philhealth (most do not have) which provides a limited coverage and GSIS or SSS only for their retirement and pension in the future.
honestly, putting all your savings basket with these government institutions is a far more risky plan. We have heard retirees that are now still awaiting and hoping for their retirement pensions from GSIS. And they need constant maintenance medications for their ailments.
Many middle income Butuanons unfortunately rely on bank savings that offer zero to minimal interest growth with their money....and their savings is taxed 20 % pa gyud by the government.....they get sick / or someone in the family gets sick / they get laid off from work (and other uncertainties)...they used up their savings.....consume their Philhealth benefits.....they ran out of money.....they go to lending and loan sharks....and they ultimately die poor and indebted :ohno:
those left behind by the deceased...the wife and children are left with debts...with nothing to support financially.......this once middle income family becomes one of the Philippines poor :)
thats what financial planning Jsl
Taegon March 17th, 2011, 06:15 AM All about Butuan’s balangay
Thursday, 17 March 2011 00:00
By CLARITO GERARCAS
Correspondent
BUTUAN City -City tourism officer-in-charge Lilit Mission-Concon outlined her vision on the city's tourism prospect. She stressed in her excerpt from a noted historian that to aver: The voyage of the balangay affords us an insight and appreciation into our maritime past, a phase in our history that has almost been lost in our consciousness.
The success of the expedition along the coastlines of the Philippines and the countries of Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and waters of Vietnam confirms the trading constellation of the ancient Asian realms. Butuan has a special historical role as an ancient trading harbor that sent the first recorded tribute mission to the Chinese empire from the Philippine islands a thousand years ago and was the site of the discovery of the balangay boat relics and other important archaeological discoveries. The balangay boat has become the symbol of basic political governance in our country - the barangay.
Furthermore, she is proud of the fact that Butuan has an existing community way back even before the European came in, (based on the artifacts recovered and discovered recently ) trading in the Asian region to include Imperial China existing 5,000 years ago, a fate she would want to share this history to a new generation of Filipinos, specifically to our visitors, balikbayans and even the residents in Butuan and the region itself.

to be honest where not commission maniacs....our people are professional advisers for those who want to get ahead in their financial needs.
sadly, most Filipinos do not have access to the products PRU Life and other companies offer...
most Butuanons rely only on Philhealth (most do not have) which provides a limited coverage and GSIS or SSS only for their retirement and pension in the future.
honestly, putting all your savings basket with these government institutions is a far more risky plan. We have heard retirees that are now still awaiting and hoping for their retirement pensions from GSIS. And they need constant maintenance medications for their ailments.
Many middle income Butuanons unfortunately rely on bank savings that offer zero to minimal interest growth with their money....and their savings is taxed 20 % pa gyud by the government.....they get sick / or someone in the family gets sick / they get laid off from work (and other uncertainties)...they used up their savings.....consume their Philhealth benefits.....they ran out of money.....they go to lending and loan sharks....and they ultimately die poor and indebted :ohno:
those left behind by the deceased...the wife and children are left with debts...with nothing to support financially.......this once middle income family becomes one of the Philippines poor :)
thats what financial planning Jsl

jsl_bxu1206 March 17th, 2011, 10:23 AM yeah, i know. i haven't tried investing in insurance companies aside from what my former employers offered as part of their company benefits. i checked the website of PRU Life UK and i didn't know which product/package is appropriate for overseas Filipinos. Is it possible to make transactions from outside the country (let's say the US)?
