Wow! this is a good news again! Very impressive! I hope same structure and design to this building its pretty nice. I think it's located unahan sa may BIR regional office and tapad din sya sa DBP. Somebody mentioned that here in the forum. I hope i renovate nila ang DPB kay murag wala pako natawo naa na ang DPB kay nice man kaayo nga makita nimo ang side sa may McDo and gaisano tas on the other side old bldg ng DBP at tapat din ung CAP na old bldg din. para kseng business district din ung rosales avenue eh at malamang jan din itatayo ung flyover which is part din the national project. Grabe ang improvement ngaun sa Butuan which is the youngest regional in the country pero has a lot of potential na wala sa lain region.

sana matuloy na ito.....:lol::lol::lol:

I've never get a chance to stay man lang sa atong tulay kahit 5 minutes man lang.. hehehe POOR Regjeex! hehehehehe. Next uwi ko malamang mag lalasing ako jan sa tulay na yan... hehehehe! naa pa ba police mag stay permi sa tulay? ginawa kseng "KIOSK" hehehe or the right word is RESORT ung DM bridge... cguro ma feel nimo pag na view nimo once naa naka sa tulay and u'll look down to the river parang PEACE OF MIND im really sure it does. Pede nila i develop ung side ng river like to put up a floating restaurant or same with the broadwalk along Magsaysay bridge. Diba so nice. And then they will put a colorful lights on the steel itself ung mga steels pede nila lagyan ng lights para when u pass bye if you're from Ampayon kse makikita mo un when u approach the viaduct.. makikita mo ung mga steel ng tulay.. maganda tignan pag bawat steel may lights.. parang San Francisco Bridge.... hahaha dream on...!!! Malay nyo diba... kse tutal beautification lang naman ang susunod na project eh tudo na nila.. hehehhe! gasino lang naman ung outdoor lights eh... hindi naman aabot ng 5 thousand yan... more or less i think... Suggestion! mas magada ngayon kse pasko.. at least iconic bridge makikita mo sa news buong nation diba.. hehehe dream on na naman...!!! hehehe

Microfinance lenders are getting the message
By Roel Landingin and Richard Lapper

Published: November 16 2007 02:51 | Last updated: November 16 2007 02:51

Running a small bank that is big on microfinance can be tedious work. Take it from Omar Andaya, whose family owns Greenbank, a rural bank based in Butuan City in the southern Philippine island of Mindanao.

Each week, Mr Andaya has to send out credit officers to collect loan payments of 500-1,000 pesos ($11.5-$23) from 32,000 micro-borrowers.

EDITOR’S CHOICE
Foreign banks enter fresh fields in China - Nov-16Lifeline for millions is a valuable asset class - Nov-15JPMorgan enters micro-finance field - Nov-14Indian microfinance is attracting big business - Oct-12But thanks to mobile phone banking, at least a thousand or so of Mr Andaya’s borrowers have began to simply “text” the money to the bank using cellular phones linked to Globe Telecom, the country’s second-biggest wireless phone company.

“We have increased our credit officers’ efficiency,” Mr Andaya says.

The bank has about a third of its 1.1bn peso loan portfolio lent to village store owners, farmers, snack food makers, and other borrowers who owe no more than 150,000 pesos. “Text-a-payment,” as the scheme is called, has proved so cost-effective that Mr Andaya deducts half a percentage point from the monthly interest rates of borrowers who use the facility.

But the experiment could have much wider relevance in the world of microfinance, where many organisations are looking at ways to reduce costs and bring down lending rates.

It may be cheaper to borrow from a microfinance company than the moneylenders that are often the only other source of funds for the poor.

Even so, rates of up to 6 per cent per month can be onerous for borrowers, making some in the industry suspicious of the motives of private sector investors who have flooded into the sector.

Industry websites and chat rooms are full of debate about the potential conflicts.

In a recent paper, officials at the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor, an arm of the World Bank that focuses on microfinance, suggested the industry’s encounter with the capital markets was making it more difficult to balance “social and commercial objectives”.

The debate has begun to influence policy in several countries.

The authorities in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh closed down some microfinance branches last year after borrowers alleged they were paying excessively high interest rates and being pressed by aggressive debt collectors.

India’s government is debating whether to regulate the sector.

The left-wing government of Ecuador has been pressing legislators to cap interest rates.

In Argentina, the government has launched a heavily subsidised lending programme, which critics say distorts the market and makes it more difficult for microfinance organisations to operate successfully.

Defenders of the commercial approach insist that high interest rates are an inevitable part of the sector’s business model.

Microfinance institutions operate very high expense ratios, paying sometimes more than 20 cents in expenses for each dollar that they lend out, more than double the levels typical in the conventional banking industry.

“This is a very labour-intensive industry,” says Scott Budde, head of Global Social Community Investing, at New York-based TIAA-CREF, which provides retirement services to the non-profit community in the US and has invested in the sector.

Practitioners suggest that greater competition and technological innovations rather than government intervention is the best way to reduce costs and bring down lending rates.

The Philippines’ experience seems to offer a way forward.

Smart Communications, one of two local mobile carriers offering the service, says that 5.5m of its 27m subscribers have signed up for its mobile commerce system, which allows users to buy goods and services, pay bills and transfer money using SMS.

Globe, its rival, says its mobile commerce platform has half a million active users out of 18m subscribers.

The limited number of “exchange points” – where cash can be exchanged for virtual money held on mobile phones – is constraining growth to an extent, but a growing number of rural banks are following in the footsteps of Mr Andaya’s Greenbank.

About 40 rural banks offer mobile banking services in partnership with Globe, for example.

Smart is partnering with Microventures, a social business enterprise, and the Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development, the largest microfinancing institution in the Philippines, to put up some 8,000 stores in southern Luzon that will offer mobile banking and internet services.

John Owens, a microfinance consultant, says international donors are “pretty impressed” with how rural bankers and telecoms companies, as well as central bank regulators, are working together on the issue of microfinance.

Butuan OTOP Pasalubong Center conducts soft opening
By janice on Nov 20, 2007 in News

Butuan City — Organizers coming from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), both form the Regional and Provincial Offices, including mainstay partners from the Caraga Regional Association of Traders and Entrepreneurs in Food (CReATE Food) conducted a soft opening of their first-ever Butuan OTOP Pasalubong Center at the Gaisano Mall recently.

Engr. Roderico B. Cane, proactive President of CReATE Food who made his opening remarks in public, welcomed everyone to the “soft opening of the OTOP Pasalubong Center. Our mission in CReATE Food, being the one who is entrusted to manage this Pasalubong Center, is to sustain it in order that we can contribute better to the economy of Caraga Region.”

He made mention that bankers and other government officials have been egging him to spearhead opening such kind of enterprise, a Pasalubong Center. While Cebu has otap, Bohol has kalamay, Negros has pinasugbo, Butuan City itself is not really known for any “homegrown” food delicacies or presents. In a sense, therefore, the Pasalubong Center according to Engr. Cane would hopefully answer the aching desire of the Butuanons, who can now gladly refer to CReATE products as “ato ini” or “these are ours.”

Furthermore, he pointed out that the opening of said Pasalubong Center was bankrolled by the DTI Agusan del Norte Pronvincial Office, with Provincial Director Rene I. Negapatan providing the needed support.

Gay Tidalgo, Chief of the Consumer Welfare Division of DTI Regional Office, congratulated CReATE Food in the same occasion for making the “OTOP Pasalubong Center as a dream come true.”

She likewise commented that, “this is not easy to start with; there were actually heartaches along the way during preparation time. But I tell you, maintaining and sustaining it would be doubly hurting and tough. And that’s my challenge.”

Leticia Tan, Department of Tourism Caraga Regional Director, when asked to give an inspirational talk instead shared: “It is not me who will inspire you, but it is actually you guys in CReATE Food who have inspired us to double our efforts. I know you are already a national awardee. Therefore, let’s make this endeavor an inspiration not only for us in the Department of Agriculture, Department of Tourism, and DTI but to the entire Agusan del Norte community as well.”

Seconds after the opening, customers started to trickle inside the Pasalubong Center and began buying food delicacies. For the record, it was Mrs. Venus A. Gallon, 65 years of age, from Nasipit, Agusan del Norte, who became the first customer after buying PhP60.00 worth of food products. She was happy to note that at least Butuan is flexing its muscles in this area. She said also that she would no longer be in a quandary as to where to search for food presents to give to his visiting kin and children from abroad.

CReATE Food, by the way, was a recent national awardee as an Emerging Regional Food Cluster last October 24, 2007 at the Heroes Hall, Malacańang with no less than President Gloria M. Arroyo handing the Plaque of Recognition to Engr. Cane in behalf of the organization.

OTOP, based on materials gathered, actually means One Town One Product and is patterned after Japan’s successful “One Village, One Product” project started in 1979 by Oita Prefecture Governor Morihiro Hiramatsu as a form of people’s participation in the regional development of Japan.

The success of the Japanese program prompted other countries, including the Philippines, to adopt the concept as an effective tool to alleviate poverty, particularly in the rural areas.

Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Indonesia have also adopted the OTOP scheme of fighting poverty through the creation of more opportunities for the poor families in urban and rural communities.

OTOP is now among the best means of the administration in promoting entrepreneurship and job creation in the countryside.

The Arroyo administration, through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), is pushing OTOP projects in more towns and cities nationwide as part of the initiative to provide engines of growth for urban and rural entrepreneurs. (TESDA-13/PIA-13) by Gervacio C. Dauz, Jr

52 Rotarians, spouses attend Rotary Academy
Nov 19, 2007 in News

BUTUAN CITY — Fifty two Rotarians, including spouses, representing 11 Rotary Clubs from Zones 3B-1 and 3B-2 of District 3860 attended the Rotary Academy held at the Luciana Convention Center here on November 17, 2007 with the theme “One Dream… One Team… One District.”

Said 11 clubs that practically cover the entire Caraga Region are the Rotary Clubs of Bislig, Butuan, Butuan North, Downtown Butuan, Metro Butuan, Central Cabadbaran, San Francisco, Central Surigao, Metro Surigao, Surigao City, and the Surigao Midtown Jewels.

Basic and intermediate subject matters were learned during the academy-such as history, organization, programs and activities of Rotary; including topics such as “Why Join Rotary”, Rotary Protocol, and Rotary Foundation-riveted the participants’ attention and provided them with fundamental knowledge and insights about what’s up and on with Rotary as an organization of businessmen and professionals.

Asst. Governor Wilfredo Sinco, who banged the gavel to signal the opening of the Rotary Academy, provided the historical backdrop down memory lanes, wherein he shared: “Rotary, being the world’s first organized service club, was founded on February 23, 1905 by Paul Harris, who is a lawyer by profession. It all started when Paul Harris and his friends met initially, then decided to hold weekly meetings at each member’s place of business on a rotation basis. From that rotation scheme, the term Rotary was eventually adopted to be the name of their club. Their club, known as the Rotary Club of Chicago, was the very first ever to be established.”

He made mention also of “Carlos P. Romulo as the first ever Filipino to serve as the 3rd Vice President of the Rotary International during the Rotary Year (RY) 1937-1938.”

Senior Asst. Governor for Service Projects Gerard Rikken, who is a Dutch, traced the background of Rotary Academy as having been started by the “Rotary District 3830 in RY 1999-2000 to cover the basic needs of Rotarians” - and that is to learn the ropes and nitty-gritty of Rotary as a civic organization.

As an overview, he pointed out that the Rotary Academy has three modules-such as New Members Education, Continuing Education for Rotarians, and Leadership in Action-which the participants need to cover. “This particular module,” he clarified, “is the first installment in the series.

“For those who will complete the development cycle, by taking up the three modules,” he explained, “they will be accorded a Certificate of Graduation from the Academy during the District Conference.”

Club President Florencio F. Sunico, Jr. of the Rotary Club of Surigao City (RCSC), who dwelt on the topic “Why Join Rotary” shared that businessmen and professionals have joined the organization for many, splendid reasons. He enumerated among other things that “we joined to enlarge our network of friends. We joined Rotary for business connections, for personal growth and development, for leadership development, for fun and entertainment,” and for many other reasons.

Just an example, he shared to the group about one thing that freshly stood out in his memory. Being the current Club President of RCSC, “I have strategic and sensitive responsibilities to do. But when my duty as a civil servant called me to transfer from Surigao City to Butuan City to assume as Officer in Charge-Regional Director of TESDA Caraga Region, I have to go. Surprisingly, I was met with a tarpaulin banner welcoming my arrival and assumption to duty here in Butuan City. I was very much touched with that gesture coming from Rotarians headed by President ‘Bong’ Malayao of the Rotary Club of Metro Butuan. And that’s just one of the tangible reasons why I join Rotary.”

The top gun in the gathering was Past District Governor (PDG) Bert Dormendo, who shared about Rotary International’s (RI) Programs and its Foundation. According to him, RI’s programs and service opportunities are designed to help Rotarians meet needs in their own communities and reach out to assist people in need worldwide.

His main focus was on the Menu of Service Opportunities wherein RI recommends that clubs planning service activities should consider nine major needs or concerns: “Children at Risk, Disabled Persons, Health Care, International Understanding and Goodwill, Literacy and Numeracy, Population Issues, Poverty and Hunger, Preserve Planet Earth, and Urban Concerns.”

Quoting from a Rotary document, PDG Dormendo indicated, as a kind of challenge, to the participants: “”No one can tell us what Rotary will be tomorrow, but one thing is certain: what Rotary will be depends upon the Rotarians of today.”

Rotary is actually known for its Four Way Test and its mottoes such as “Service Above Self”, which was coined in 1950, and “He Profit Most Who Serves Best”, which was minted way back in 1911.

Organizers of the event were thankful that with the backing of KIA Motors of Butuan City as a major sponsor the academy proceeded slickly and ended smoothly. (TESDA-13/PIA-13) by Gervacio C. Dauz, Jr.

TESDA-accredited assessors gearing up for Caraga convention

By janice on Nov 22, 2007 in News

Butuan City — Closed to 150 TESDA-accredited assessors within Caraga Region will assemble en masse at the Lucinana Convention Center and gear up for a regional convention come November 29, 2007 in order to upgrade their know-how; be abreast with current trends in conducting competency assessment; thresh out concerns and define working relationships between and among them vis-ŕ-vis TESDA and Accredited Assessment Centers; and conduct reorganization by electing a new set of officers.

Romel M. Natad, Technical Education and Skills Development Specialist II and focal for said convention, shared that the assessors should be groomed because they are entrusted with a sensitive, important job wherein they conduct assessment to test-takers who aspire to be certified and to hopefully work abroad if given the opportunity.

Part of the assessor’s credo, he shared, so states: “I shall place a high value on objectivity and integrity and maintain the highest standards in the services I render.”

Because of that, he pointed out, an accredited assessor could be subjected to an investigation after a written complaint is lodged in a TESDA office against him. And if found guilty of violating the assessor’s credo, Mr. Natad emphasized, the same will forever be disbarred and disallowed to conduct competency assessment.

Dr. George G. Posesano, a Competency Assessor cum Accredited Assessment Center Manager of the Surigao State College and Technology in Surigao City, is currently the president of the region-wide guild of competency assessors and will likewise give inputs during the convention proper.

Assessment, based on TESDA’s definition, is the process of collecting evidence and making judgments by the assessor on whether competency has been achieved by the examinee or test-taker. The purpose of assessment is to confirm that an individual can perform to the standards expected in the workplace or industry as expressed in the relevant competency standards.

Said Braulio dela Peńa, Acting Regional Operations Division Chief, “assessment is arguably the heart and soul of TESDA because through it industry standards are set and examinees are measured whether they are at par with the requirements of a given trade area.”

As an input, if the Professional Regulation Commission has board and bar exams, and the Civil Service Commission has its own civil service eligibility exams, then the TESDA has also its own competency exams and provides national certification to those who have successfully hurdled their respective trade area exams.

Obviously, according to TESDA Caraga OIC-Regional Director Florencio F. Sunico, Jr., if the country aims to be bullish and competitive, it needs to have a workforce that is skilled, customer-oriented, competitive, quality focused, adoptive of new technology, efficient in work organization and methods, and up to date with knowledge and skills. Part of critically achieving such grandiose vision, he added, is to put in place a competency assessment, which can only happen if we recognize the pivotal role of the assessors.

The convention, it was gathered, is part of the overall scheme of strategizing and putting in place the so-called Competency-Based Approach. Hence, the Competency-Based Approach is now recognized to be the most responsive to the needs of the customer in the aspect of international competitiveness; private sector and government reforms; education and training reform; technology advances; emphasis on quality management; new skills/multi-tasking.

Furthermore, the convention is aimed to be an avenue for advocating and drumming up support for competency assessment. (TESDA-13/PIA-13)

Butuan thinks “pink”, lines up series of gender and development activities
By Glenrose on Nov 23, 2007 in News

by Gervacio C. Dauz Jr.

Butuan City (November 23) — For 16 days commencing this 25th day of November and will end at the 10th of December 2007, women’s group from the different regions of the world will observe “Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” in order to campaign the ending of violence against women. The move is actually done perennially due to the seriousness of the issue.

In answer to that and in order to up the ante, the Philippines, through Presidential Proclamation No. 1172 series of 2006, even extended the campaign from 16 to 18 days to include December 12, which is the very date commemorating the adoption of the “United Nations Convention Against Transnational Crime” and supplemented by the Protocol to Prevent and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children.

Here in the city, the Regional Development Council-Gender and Advocacy Coordinating Committee–chaired by Atty. Marlyn Pintor, Regional Director of the Commission on Human Rights, and co-chaired by Ms. Edna Hontiveros, Executive Director of FORWARD, Inc.–will launch a series of advocacy campaign beginning with a motorcade around main thoroughfares and then a press conference to be held at the DA Conference Hall on November 26, 2007.

The committee will spearhead also a forum on trafficking come December 12, 2007, including press conference, radio guesting, and jail visitation for female inmates and children at the city jail here.

The committee will be guided with the theme “Kaligtasan ng Kababaihan Laban sa Karahasan, Tungkulin ng Bawat Mamamayan” for the entire duration of their concerted activity. (TESDA-13/PIA-13)

Caraga execs admit failure vs human trafficking, violence against women
11/26/2007 | 04:54 PM

BUTUAN CITY- Authorities on Monday admitted that Caraga region is lagging behind in the campaign against human trafficking and violence against women and children, affirming surveys by non-government organizations that showed the prevalence of trafficking of women and minors in the region.

In a press conference, lawyer Marilyn Pintor, Gender and Development-Regional Development Coordinating Council (GAD-RDCC) chair, some – if not majority – of local government agencies lack awareness on and, thus, fail to give priority to projects aimed at protecting women and children.

In fact, Pintor – who is concurrently the regional director of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) – said that Caraga courts have yet to convict alleged violators of Republic Act 9262 or the Act Defining Violence against Women and their Children as well as the Anti-human Trafficking law.

"The DOJ (Department of Justice) so far has not convicted any single violator in Caraga region, one of them were just given mere punishment of social work," Pintor said.

For her part, GAD-RDCC vice chair Edna Hontiveros said region-wide assessment made by the group indicate that GAD programs are being sidelined despite of the fact women and children from the region fall victims to trafficking.

Earlier, NGOs like Visayan Forum and ECPAT in their surveys and studies showed that most of the trafficked women and minors that were recruited to big cities – many of whom have ended up in brothels and prostitution dens – were from Mindanao, particularly from Caraga region.

Hontiveros said funds allocated for GAD programs are not being used by local government units for this purpose. “What is unfortunate was some used these funds as milking cow," Hontiveros said.

Representatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Caraga regional office also admitted lack of budget in different municipal police offices in the region have hindered their campaign against trafficking and violence against women and children.

In the press conference, GAD-RDCC officials urged local chief executives to take concrete actions to put an end to violence against women and trafficking of women and children, including the adoption and implementation of public information programs on these issues. - Alvin Guanzon, GMANews.TV

Caraga region gets P20-million worth of social services
11/01/2007 | 09:33 PM

The Caraga region received over P20 million worth of "social interventions" in 20 priority barangays (villages) to strengthen the government’s peace building efforts, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Secretary Jesus Dureza announced Thursday.

The project was implemented under the ACT for Peace Programme of the government.

In his report to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Dureza said the peace interventions benefited 8,963 households in 20 villages in the four provinces comprising the Caraga region – Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Surigao del Norte.

Dureza, who is also director of the ACT for Peace Programme, said the completed and ongoing projects include the establishment of Botika ng Barangays, health and peace centers, post-harvest facilities, potable water and irrigation facilities, and other livelihood programs.

Dureza said the projects are supported by the United Nations with direct support from the government of New Zealand.

The Act for Peace Programme seeks to strengthen peace-building efforts to sustain peace and development in the southern Philippines by working with multiple stakeholders to promote peace initiatives at different levels. It also assists Local Government Units and other partners to enhance conflict transformation capacities.

The ACT for Peace Programme is consistent with the 2004-2010 Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan and the 10-point Agenda of the government.

The Programme was established in June 2005 and is expected to operate until May 2010. - GMANews.TV

Crossing the Intercross Creative Center
by Robert E. Roperos

Butuan City (December 4) -- "This facility will never be completed, because there is no end in our creative activities. The next work will always be our best work".

This is the famous lines you can hear from the management, staff, and crew of Intercross Creative Center (ICC), a joint-project of the provincial government of Hokkaido, city government of Sapporo, and some private sectors in this city.

Situated in a 3,378.99 square meters, the center is managed and operated by Sapporo Electronics and Industries Cultivation Foundation whose main objective is to create digitally-processed multi-media such as video and music editing.

In an interview with Mr. Toshiya Kubo, ICC Chief Coordinator, he emphasized that the center is composed of a cluster of digital designers. These designers are specializing on web design, computer graphics, animation, movie editing, illustration, sculpting, architecture, music producing, and games programming, among others.

Mr. Toshiya also said, the company's work will be purchased and used by some broadcasting companies in Japan. In return, the companies will pay them the royalty fee.

Among the annual activities spearheaded by ICC is the organization of seminars for designing. The company also holds the ICC Festival wherein an "International Creative Workshop" highlighting the affair. Participants in this festival are coming from other countries as far as the USA.

This year, the workshop was conducted in February where the participants were required to undergo snow-sculpting to simply introduce themselves during the opening day.

In the field of broadcasting, ICC assists in conducting canned and even live TV programs in the country. They can also do short films, commercials and internet radio, all of these can be processed using their latest state-of-the-arts equipment and highly-technical manpower.

The company was given the name Intercross Creative Center in the hope that it will attract creative professionals from a variety of fields and companies that support these individuals.

Through the company's existence, new business opportunities arise through this interaction of different industries. This is a "hybrid" facility connecting businesspeople of diverse professions with two links – design and information technology (IT).

The company is also developing projects to support the business' promotional and marketing efforts. It also organizes events, seminars and workshops for business activities and interests.

The company has an ultimate goal: "To build a human channel using personal changes". To this end, ICC offers opportunities to develop networks with leading Japanese and non-Japanese creators, producers and promoters.

On top of that, ICC exists in order to gather those with great potential and realize a "People's Renaissance" in this digital age.

Here are a few photos of the inside of the mall. This is the main shopping area for Butuan City. There are of course smaller shopping areas similar to what we would call “Flea Market” type around the town. This mall has 3 stories which includes clothing stores, shoe stores, optometry, groceries, fast food, pharmacy, internet cafĂ©, souvenirs, and much more. Since this was so close to the Inland Resort Hotel Anna and me we went there almost daily. I don’t know who that guy is in the orange hat.

Hmmm. Anyway, San Francisco is somewhat an interlock municipality yet of Agusan del Sur, while Bislig is a port city of Surigao del Sur. If that's your case, better keep it on yourself and keep it cool. :) hehehe

interlock....inland yet a busy intersection of highways....that why chosen by Jollibee Foods Corporation to be their beehive in Agusan Sur......Surigao Sur area....in 5 years to come it will be a city by then(take the case Tandag it waited 5 years after they failed in contested battle for cityhood with Bislig)....nice mga plan ang province ng Agusan del Sur....cnguro nila...in between ang mga competitive cities and municipalities....City of Bayugan, Municipality of Prosperidad(Provincial Capital)...and the soon to be (city) of San Francisco....:lol::lol:

even on BXU-MNL, both 2 flights nila are fully booked around December 21 up to 27, at this early...and 29-1 also..

CEBPAC and PAL frequencies are not enough for the season, hope they will add special additional flights..

You know what guys? When I had a transit visa in Dubai while waiting my flights going to Baghdad, even downtown nila no wires... galing ng set up nila... maybe because bihira lang umulan sa place nila... but not to think na desert ang place nila.. kay bisan diri sa Iraq proper city,,,, lots of wire.. but compared to Dubai.... really nice to see wag mo lang isipin ang humidity kay mao ra nay maka discourage sa ilang place although its really nice to see in the middle of the desert mga tall buildings makikita mo na amazing.... But then, maganda pa rin sa atin...

Mao. Hehe... But they did that before na.. i remember nung may bxu-ceb nila nung 2004, there are two flyts. 1 special flight ung nasakyan ko... dc 9 pa yun... pero feel mo na galing sa ibang bansa ang plane. hehe. sabi ks sa attendand, galing pa cila hongkong to cebu then cebu to bxu.

Anyway, I think ok lang siguro ang frequency ngayon.... of course, uuniahin nila ang bigger cities to accomodate their needs. ahay.

Cebu Pacific cancels Saturday Laoag flights
ABS CBN News
12.15.07

http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/images/news/newspics/12-14-2007/cp.jpg

Cebu Pacific has canceled flights to and from Laoag scheduled for Saturday to give way for passengers affected by five canceled flights Friday.

The Manila-Laoag (11:50 a.m) and the Laoag-Manila (1:25 p.m.) flights on Saturday was canceled to give way to passengers stranded in Butuan and Cagayan de Oro.

Cebu Pacific Vice-President for Marketing and Product Candice Iyog said the they are calling all passengers affected by the canceled flights to and from Laoag so that they won't go to the airport anymore. They will also allow refunds and rebookings.

More than 700 passengers were stranded after five Cebu Pacific flights were canceled Friday due to damaged planes, ABS-CBN News learned.

Iyog said that two of their planes experienced technical problems, causing flights bound for Bacolod (4:40 a.m.), Legazpi (7:10 a.m.), Cebu (8:40 a.m.), and Butuan (11:10 a.m.) to be canceled in the morning, correspondent Timi Nubla reported.

Another flight, a 3:05 p.m. Cagayan de Oro flight, was also canceled.

The stranded passengers were given free flight tickets to any domestic destination, while others living far from the airport were housed in hotels.

Other passengers were refunded of their fares, while some were transferred to other airlines.

The remaining 101 stranded passengers will be placed on other outbound flights Saturday.

As of Friday evening, one of the problems that had technical problems was back on service.

Passengers affected by the cancellations are advised to call the Cebu Pacific hotline at 702-0888.
