jsl, I think you've mentioned this in the previous thread. Check out photos 1&2. See those round shaped structures with roofs made of native material?( I counted 8 of them @ the airport in various locations). Funny, coz at first glance, I had mistaken those as Trash Bins, my golly  Those are Sheds pala according to that nice fellow, lalagyan pa daw tu ng bench around that circular concrete structure. The round hole opening in the center will be filled daw with planters which explains the 'butas' sa gitna ng roof :bash:

I haven't tried yet dining at the Grand Palace, only my brother & sister did. I only recommended the Pecking duck since it's their specialty, my sister told me it's good but cost them 1,800.

The Merry Month of May

By REENALYN M. MANGILIN

MANILA, Philippines -- Colorful native decorations along the streets, a band of musicians playing an upbeat tune, lovely maidens walking under bamboo arches and smiling while waving their hands to spectators, houses adorned with fresh fruits and vegetables, water buffaloes genuflecting before the patron saint, and more. Who wouldn’t like to be around such a place? People are busy watching the parade, some are busy buying unique items and local products in public bazaars and some are just taking photographs. This is a popular picture of a festival or a “fiesta” in the Philippines.

“Actually, a local or visitor can experience these festivals as the Filipino’s ways of celebrating which are as many and diverse as the influence that has shaped Philippine culture. With the month of May as the peak of summer in the Philippines, it is an urgent call for everyone to experience the joys of summer before the rains come in. It is the time to experience first-hand how Filipinos ingeniously celebrate their religion and express gratitude for a bountiful harvest,” says Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim.

May, in the country, is not confined to fine sand beaches and sand castles. Of all the months of the year, May is one of the busiest months because of its vivid and exciting festivals. These festivities may be celebrated in honor of their patron saint, for thanksgiving, as promotion for local products, or as a recognition of the local people’s source of living such as agriculture, fishing and the like. A week in the month of May won’t pass by without a joyous gathering taking place somewhere in the country’s 7,107 tropical islands.

A festival is a gift that is passed on from one generation to another. Attending a festival is like reliving the celebration done for several decades and even centuries. Every festival is unique in its own way showcasing the rich culture and enduring tradition of Filipinos. Festivals, likewise, serve as mirrors of the lives of people in the towns, cities, or provinces celebrating the event.

People’s characteristics and beliefs are reflected on how they celebrate and prepare for the occasion. For instance, Filipinos, being the third largest Roman Catholic population in the world and one of the most religious races, give much importance on rituals and ceremonies related to their spirituality. In fact, a significant part of the festivals are part of Filipino’s Catholic-oriented customs and traditions. Local festivities are held to honor their own community’s patron saint.

Of all the festivals this month, Flores de Mayo and Santacruzan are the two most popular cultural and religious practices. Flores de Mayo is a procession usually led by young girls dressed like angels offering fresh flowers to the image of Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ. During the Santacruzan, lovely maidens and handsome escorts of the locality dress up in fabulous gowns and formal wear parade under bamboo arches of summer blooms around the neighborhood. The religious procession showcases various characters from the Bible and depicts the search for the Holy Grail by Queen Helena and her son, Prince Constantine.

Yet, these two glamorous festivals are just examples of numerous festivals celebrated in the country during the month of May.

There is also the Tromba Festival celebrated in Baras, Rizal on May 1, which honors the Nuestra Senora de Turumba through an afternoon procession and street dancing preceded by a Pagoda parade along the Baras River. Another one is the Holy Cross Festival, also known as Salubong in the rustic towns of Alitagtag and Bauan in Batangas, a festive celebration of the symbolic meeting of the Holy Cross of Alitagtag at the Binukalan Shrine. On the last day of May, Tapusan Festival also in Alitagtag, Batangas honors the Holy Cross in the form of a colorful procession with a huge cross mounted on a gaily decorated float.

The Tinapay Festival in Cuenca, Batangas on May 15 is an annual festival conceived as thanksgiving to their patron saint, Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, for a bountiful life. In Antipolo City, the Tipulo Festival coincides with the commemoration of the miracle of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage when an epidemic hit the Antipulenos during the Spanish era. A miraculous healing took place after the sick participated in the Holy Mass at the Pinagmisahan Hills.

One of the most interesting religious festivals is the Fertility Festival in Obando, Bulacan. Celebrated on May 17-19, childless couples – Filipinos and other nationalities -- reverently dance to native tunes in homage of the Virgin of Salambao while appealing for heavenly intercession to have children. At the same time, maidens and bachelors who want husbands and wives also join in the dancing to find their partners.

Filipino farmers are noted for being grateful for bountiful harvests in the form of festivals. Pahiyas festival on May 15 in Lucban, Quezon, known as one of the top festivals in the Philippines, honors San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers. Native decorations called “kiping,” leaf-shaped and multi-colored rice paste wafers, along with fresh fruits and flowers are used to embellish the facades of homes. This visual and culinary feast has gained national and international recognition as one of the country’s biggest and most colorful harvest festivals.

For the Agawan Festival in neighboring Sariaya, Quezon held on May 11 until May 15, people eagerly await the passing of the image of San Isidro which serves as the signal for everyone to grab everything within their arms reach with the help of residents, who eagerly rip off street decorations and throw them to the crowd, all in the spirit of giving and sharing, known as “happy pandemonium.”

Another festivity in honor of San Isidro Labrador is the Carabao Festival in Angono, Rizal and in Pulilan, Bulacan. Farmers pay tribute to their patron saint with a colorful procession of carabao carts carrying a myriad of local agricultural products. Prizes are awarded to the strongest and most beautifully decorated carabao or water buffalo. And in Pulilan, Bulacan, several carabaos, the farmer’s best friend, are trained to genuflect before the statue of San Isidro Labrador.

Bawang Festival in Sinait, Ilocos Sur promotes the town’s major products, bawang or garlic. This event includes a competition among street dancers in garlic-inspired costumes and for the biggest, longest and most creatively-twined garlic, among others.

Every May 15, the Pinya festival promotes the sweetest-tasting pineapples and other agricultural products of Calauan, Laguna through cultural presentations, a pineapple float parade, street dancing and native products décor contest. Meanwhile, the Katang Festival in Calauag, Quezon celebrates the abundance of mud crabs in their province and highlights the Higanteng Alimango or the giant crab, as their icon. Grand parade of colorful scarecrows and street dances are the major attractions of the Pahoy-pahoy Festival in celebration of a good harvest in Cabliga, Samar.

The Sarangani Bay Festival on May 19 in Gian, Sarangani Province pays tribute to the bay which sustains thousands of lives in the province because of the richness of marine life. In Alfonso Lisa Ifugao, the Ammung is a cultural festival showcasing ethnic games, rituals chants, ethnic sports and native songs.

Other special concerns and beliefs make festivals a worthwhile event in the Philippines. One is the Balik-Butuan festival in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte which offers an opportunity for all Butanons residing abroad and other parts of the country to reunite with old-time friends and relatives and to see what they can do to help their city progress.

Philippine festivals reflect the character of the people as well as culture and tradition of a country. It is of interest to know more about these very special events throughout the country so one can spend summer experiencing age-old Filipino traditions while enjoying the bounty of the country.

Tagalog News: Ituwid ang maling proseso ng pagta-trabaho, mungkahi ni Mayor
ni Diamond Year Cupay

(PIA-Caraga)

http://www.zambotimes.com/archives/31029-DOLE-Caraga-organizes-Industrieal-Tripartite-Council-in-Caraga.html

BUTUAN CITY — In its effort to enhance effective public-private partnership and maximizing involvement of all social partners in the implementation of labor and employment programs, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Caraga Regional Office recently organized the Industrial Tripartite Council (ITC) in Eco-Tourism to focus on concerns of workers in the eco-tourism sector.

During the Caraga Regional Tripartite Council Meeting held in Butuan City recenlty, the management and labor representatives of the hotels and restaurants welcomed the idea of organizing the eco-tourism ITC. This will enable them to address the many development concerns of the said industry, recognized as one of the emerging economic movers in the region. The body elected a set of officers and agreed to expand the membership to cover all provinces and cities in the region.

The induction of officers also marked the official launching of the Eco-Tourism ITC under the Regional Tripartite Industrial Peace Council and the start of the convention of all establishments providing eco-tourism services to come up with a voluntary code of good practices.

With these developments Dir. Domingo is hoping that the labor sector especially the private will have a strong partnership with the government's labor department in the region.

Vista Land plans dollar bond offering

Filed Under: Real Estate, bonds and t-bills

MANILA, Philippines—Villar-led Vista Land and Lifescapes Inc. plans another dollar bond sale to raise funds for its expansion to new areas in the country this year.

In a disclosure on Wednesday, the real-estate giant said it would issue additional US dollar notes. This would go on top of the $100 million in debt paper the company sold in September last year.

The new notes will have the same terms as those of the company’s previous offering. They will be consolidated with the previous offering to form a single series.

“The board further authorized the implementation of all necessary corporate and other actions to proceed with the offering and the issuance of the aforementioned notes. It authorized and empowered management to decide on the final issue size,” the company said.

Vista Land’s previous offering fetched a rate of 8.25 percent per year. The notes will mature in 2015.

Earlier this week, the company, owned by Senator Manuel Villar, said it would embark on a major expansion to 16 new areas across the country in the next 12 months.

The areas identified for its expansion program include Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte; La Union; Nueva Ecija; Bicol; Batangas; Quezon; Bataan; Pampanga; Davao; Butuan; and Zamboanga.

“The expansion to these areas will give Filipino families more opportunities to own homes as Vista Land provides options for low- to mid-market segments at various price points,” Vista Land CEO Benjamarie Therese Serrano said in a statement.

Serrano said these projects would cater to the families of overseas Filipino workers.

“The majority of our OFWs hail from the provinces and there is strong preference for house and lot in their hometown or province of origin which they intend to live in with their families,” Serrano said.

The company said its subdivision projects would cover areas of at least 10 hectares each and would be strategically located.

“Buyers have a myriad of house models to choose from and can look forward to living in themed, master-planned communities. Vista Land ensures that all its projects are well maintained even after turnover, through property managers,” Serrano said.

Vista Land last month reported a 31-percent jump in its net profit last year to P3.01 billion, on the back of record-high real-estate revenues.

The company—which derives 60 percent of its business from households supported by overseas Filipino remittances—booked P11.34 billion in revenue from real-estate sales, up by 18 percent from 2009.

Saw it too Bob. Lately, I've spotted a few enclosed/fenced lots around the city wherein two have an on-going construction inside.

There's also a small construction near Burp spot in Montalban St.

Passed by ISUZU last evening around 8:30 & noticed that there are still workers inside their U/C Service Center.

East West Bank opens 30 branches
By Ted P. Torres (The Philippine Star)
Updated May 10, 2011 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - The East West Banking Corp. (East West Bank) is planning to open another 30 branches this year to bring its total network to 143 and a little more in terms of its automated teller machine (ATM) onsite and offsite network.

Just last month, the commercial bank of the Filinvest Group of Companies opened its 114th branch in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte. The next 29 will be located in various parts of the country in pace with the positive growth of the Philippine economy.

East West Bank wants to dramatically expand its deposits and loan portfolio in the near future as it prepares to acquire its universal banking (unibank) license from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) soon.

East West Bank president and chief executive officer Antonio C. Moncupa said the bank would fulfill all the BSP requirements for its unibank license to maximize its expanding client base.

Moncupa also said that the initial reports of its first quarter performance this year indicate strong growth in its core business.

Trading gains may not be as productive as 2010 considered by many as an outstanding year but difficult to sustain in 2011.

“We do not expect to perform better than the first quarter of 2010 in terms of net income, but we expect to do better in the first three months quality-wise as our core businesses did better than earnings from trading gains,” Moncupa said.

Bank officials said that earnings from January to March this year will not be less than P400 million with the bulk coming from consumer and corporate loans as well as low cost deposits, earnings from trading activities.

Total loan growth grew by some 25 percent to roughly P40 billion. Consumer loans consisting mainly of mortgage and auto loans reached P20 billion while corporate lending was in the vicinity of P18 billion.

“We will be gaining a lot of traction from our core banking business over trading and currency gains, which did exceptionally well last year,” the bank chief executive said.

Moncupa said the bank expects to perform as well as last year in terms of earnings and the quality of its core banking business.

Last year, it return on equity (ROE) was recorded at 19.8 percent, the second best in the country’s banking industry. Capital adequacy ratio (CAR) remained at 15.96 percent, while Tier 1 CAR stood at 11 percent end 2010.

East West Bank already accounts for roughly 20 percent of Filinvest Groups’ gross earnings. “We are still making representations and clarifications with the BSP regarding the specifics of the requirements on unibanking as well as publicly listing,” Moncupa said.

Last year, East West Bank recorded corporate history by registering net profits of P1.81 billion or nearly 200 percent better than the P621.7 million in 2009. The original target was then an optimistic P1 billion.

Butuan artists unite in “Panagtagbo” art exhibit
by Jocelyn E. Morano

BUTUAN CITY, May 10 – Balangay Festival 2011 brings together the finest traditional arts created by 13 Butuanon visual artists during the “Panagtagbo” Art Exhibit that runs from May 2 to 30, 2011 at Butuan National Museum lobby.

According to Likha Caraga President Gualberto Licong, the activity is a great chance to see and learn about Butuan’s art and culture. “We will also provide skills training through free workshops on crayons, cartooning and other mediums. The Panagtagbo hopes to raise the cultural pride and artistic value of Butuan’s local artists under Likha-Karaga,” Licong added.

Almost 40 sculptures and paintings are now on display, and are for sale. These were crafted by famous Davao-based artist Anoy Catague, the multi awarded Jun Licong, and prominent visual artist Kit Gresos. Other artists include Renato Altubar, Dhoods Atamosa, Gogoy Candelario, Venencio Conales, Richard dela Cruz, Renante Dublois, alwin Musa, Casiana Torralba, Ronnie Rudinas and Restituto Sala.

Butuan National Museum Curator Agustina Tamayo urged the public to appreciate local history and culture through the wide-ranging and unique art collections.

“These are the pride of Butuan and our local artists are considered not ordinary artists because they shine in big cities and earned awards ,” Tamayo said.

An eye catching art exhibit is the Jun Licong’s “Lullaby for the City” which uses as medium sawdust and cement that portrays Butuan City Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. holding a guitar.

Panagtagbo Art Exhibit will hold every Fridays and Saturdays different art workshops, simultaneous symposium and during weekdays there will be focus group discussions.

On Sundays, last bidding sessions of sold paintings will be taking place. (Jocelyn E. Morano)

Police Region Office holds groundbreaking rites for day care center
by Noel B. Najarro

BUTUAN CITY, May 10 – Police Regional Office 13 held a groundbreaking ceremony for its P400,000 peso day care center located at Camp Rafael C. Rodriguez in this city last Monday.

The PNP regional chief CSupt. Rafal said that this is part of the PNP’s National Integrated Transformation Program, and its promotion of the government’s gender and children welfare agenda.

The guest of honor and speaker during the event was DSWD Caraga Assistant Regional Director Mita G. Lim. A memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the regional PNP and the DSWD was also signed for the establishment and operation of the 60-square meter facility.

Apart from Rafal and Lim, others in attendance were members of the PRO 13 Officers & Ladies Club led by Mrs. Ivy Boquerin, Mrs. Rafal and PSSupt. Aunzo; and officers of the Habitat for Humanity, which will also be assisting the project and some members of the PRO 13 PNP Press Corps. The ceremony was administered by the regional chaplain PCInsp. (Fr.) Marlou Labares were

Rafal during his message said that he had approved the recommendation of the PNP Housing Board, upon the request of the ladies and officers club for the establishment of such facility. He said that the PNP regional office had been busy with the improvement of its operational capability that the improvements of the camp facilities had seemed to be overlooked. He was thankful, however, to the ladies club for conceptualizing the move and for initiating a fund raising activity to put up the day care center. He also said that the building will be fastracked so that it may be ready in time for the opening of classes.

Rafal said that the regional PNP camp is blessed with a bigger area that in the future could be developed to build not only the day care center facility or the ladies and officers club house, but also other structures such as a “theme park” which may feature the history, the arts and culture of the Caraga region.

Future camp developments according to Rafal may include the access road towards the 10-million peso hospital of the PNP and the DOH, a 2-storey training center and more quartering facilities. (PIA-Caraga)

dili baligya ang mga lots sa Butuan City Government Center. But it can be leased subject to approval of the city. I heard that CREATE FOODS (Process Food Cluster of Caraga) already had a lot here for the construction of a processing plant with funding from germany.

another firm eyeing to lease a land here is arriving tomorrow to meet with the Butuan Investment Board on thursday. This firm officially submitted their intent to pour in a P40M investment in Butuan just last monday.

we are going there...thats according to father Amalla.the direction is to have 1 basilica minore in Mindanao; Luzon has the Immaculate Conception and Visayas has Sto Nino (Baby Jesus). So to complete the Holy Family, the diocese is processing to make our very own St. Joseph Cathedral a basilica minore

looks like the butuan designs have just been pasted over the shirts. you can just download or get the pictures of those models somewhere in the cyber world i guess. of course when you download or get them ,you'll see them wearing blank shirts .i've seen people using the same method of marketing shirts online . nice designs though. have been to butuan in 2005, by the way, and loved it! it seems that the city has changed extensively since then. way to go!

dili baligya ang mga lots sa Butuan City Government Center.

This firm officially submitted their intent to pour in a P40M investment in Butuan just last monday.

nagpahimangno man to si mama.. nga daaw mga yuta ipamaligya diha sa south montilla, particularly villa kanangga ug tiniwisan...

idle land man diay na... nindot na himuon ug business district

unta magplan ang butuan to be sports city capital para malahi ba... bisan usa lang ka staduim, arena ug lawn area... dako baya kita ang sports tourism... maghost dayon ug international games...

premyohan lang gyud ug cookies from rose bakeshop, usa ka pakite nga pusporo gikan sa EMI, ug plywood usa ka bundle from EMCO.. lol..

this is really a good indicator of progress^^.hope more banks will be opening in our city soon

The original target was then an optimistic P1 billion.

unya dili mosaka ang kilay sa ubang churches? especially katong mga archdiocese?

if butuan has the oldest church in mindanao then deserving ra pod nga diri ang basilica sa mindanao.^^

Just Sharing my thoughts

I think being a diocese or archdiocese cathedral is not a prelude to being a basilica, nor one church is superior to the other. A cathedral is the home church of the bishop in the case of diocese or the archbishop in the case of archdiocese while a basilica is a special church of the pope. You can identify a basilica minore or majore through papal insigña placed in the church facade, while in the cathedral you will see the bishop or archbishop chair.

A cathedral exist when there is a diocese while basilica exist only through Pope’s declaration (I forgot the canon term on this declaration). Pope’s basis to declare church a basilica is not on its physical appearance, nor the size or age of the church but by the deep devotion of the people on the saint where the church is dedicated. For instance the deep devotion of the people of Quiapo make rise the Basilica Minore del Nazareno, the devotion of the people of Cebu to Sto. Niño and Bicolanos devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia made Sto. Niño and Peñafrancia Church respectively a basilica minore’s.

Most diocese do not want their cathedral to become Basilica simply because the identity of the cathedral belongs to bishop but the Basilica belongs to the pope. For instance in Cebu the Cathedral and Basilica are two separate church structures although dedicated only to one saint, In Manila Immaculate Concepcion and Nazarene Basilicas is separate from Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, In Naga Metropolitan Cathedral is separate church from Peñafrancia Basilica Minore. I know only one Cathedral and at the same time called a Basilica is the St Peter’s Basilica also St. Peters Cathedral of Rome where the Pope also serves as the Archbishop of Rome.

It is not I think prohibited if St. Joseph Cathedral of Butuan to be declared one as a Basilica where as a catholic I deeply wishes to, but to be one can we prove to the Pope our deep devotion and love to St. Joseph our patron Saint? I may be wrong but my observation is that Butuanons is even more devotee of Sto. Niño rather than St. Joseph. (You can notice this during the celebration of the two fiestas). For instance this coming St Joseph fiesta the religiosity of this occasion is being dwarfed by the Balangay Festival where the ancient rituals is being patronized rather than the religious aspect of the fiesta.:):):)

by Robert E. Roperos

BUTUAN CITY, May 11 (PIA) -- The Officers’ Ladies Club has signed a memorandum of agreement with Police Regional Office (PRO) -13 for the construction of a day care center, in a ceremony conducted right after the flag ceremony of PRO-13 in Camp Rafael Rodriguez, Libertad, this city.

According to Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga Assistant Regional Director Mita Lim, as soon as the day care center is opened, PRO-13 should make sure that services offered by the center will really benefit those who will be enrolling especially children aged three to five years old.

In her speech as guest of honor, Lim said that children who will be enrolled in the center should be physically fit by giving them food with right nutrients.

Lim also said the children must also be given the opportunity to possess self-confidence by imparting to them the importance of being independent.

Above all, Lim said the children must be taught with right values and attitude that will eventually lead to have self-discipline. “In this way, they will be prepared for the basic education,” the official added.

Furthermore, ARD Lim stressed the importance of the parents’ participation in the development of their children’s education as well as the other agencies if technical assistance is needed.

“This may serve as a tool to prepare the future leaders of this region by equipping them with quality education,” Lim stressed.

The Officers’ Ladies club is an organization of the wives of PNP officials, including the commissioned and non-commissioned officers of the region. (PIA-Caraga)

Butuanons to experience Balangay boat voyage in a river cruise
by Diamond Year Cupay

BUTUAN CITY, May 11 (PIA) - As part of the month-long celebration of the Balangay Festival 2011 this May, Butuanons will have the chance to experience the Balangay voyage starting Thursday, May 12, 2011.

According to Jean Navarra, Butuan Global Forum President, the project is not intended primarily to generate profit but for the promotion of the boats as one of the tourist spots, not just in Caraga but also in the Philippines. This will also be an educational activity for Butuanon youth as they learn more about the Balangay boat.

Every cruise can accommodate 30 passengers, with a fee of Php 150.00 per head. The fee will cover the fuel expenses, honorarium for the crew, and other expenses during the trip.

The said activity is headed by the Butuan Global Forum in cooperation with the City Tourism Council as supported by the City government of Butuan.

It can be recalled that the said boat was used by members of Mount Everest Team when they traveled some countries in Southeast Asia during their six-months journey last year, an accomplishment which was placed the group in the front page of national dailies both here and abroad. (PIA-Caraga)

Int'l peace group to conduct forum on jury system in Butuan City
05/13/2011 | 10:42 AM

BUTUAN CITY — An international non-government organization seeking to propose a judicial system that would help poor Muslims get immediate justice is set to conduct a forum on the so-called jury system in the city.

Southern Philippines Muslim Unity and Development Association (SPMUDA) said the gathering entitled “Public Forum on the Introduction of Jury System and Empowerment" is tentatively slated on June 12.

The forum, themed “Matuwid Na Hustisya laban Sa Katiwalian at Kahirapan: Daan Tungo sa Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran," will tackle how a jury system works in the country and how it will advance Muslims' search for justice.

Lawyer Bertini Causing, founding president of the Hukumang Bayan and Movement of the Jury System in the Philippines, will be invited as one of the speakers of the forum.

SPMUDA organizers said Causing believes that the jury system would speed up the trial of cases in the country, and that it is pro-poor making it suitable to most poor Muslims involved in several legal cases.

In the jury system, decisions are made by a set of jurors, which are not appointed by public officials. Jurors are randomly picked based requirements imposed by a lawful authority.

In an article on its website, a group advocating the jury system in the Philippines said that in a democratic form of government without a jury system, justice is monopolized by those who are in power.

"We may call it [present justice system] as the "Personalized Justice System," specially by the President who appoints all judges, justices, and prosecutors," the group said.

SPMUDA National Development Office director Aliasgar Solaiman said the target participants to the forum are representative from the various sectors, human rights groups, members of the judiciary and academe, and officials from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.

Solaiman also said they are expecting Butuan City Mayor Ferdinand Amante, Jr. and Vice Mayor Lawrence Fortun to grace the event.

Founded in 1986 with over 375,000 members worldwide, SPMUDA has been promoting the rights and welfare of Muslims in the country. — Ben Serrano/Karlitos Brian Decena/LBG, GMA News

DILG officers assemble to assess 2011 programs, projects
by Mary Christine Anthonette M. Salise

http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=1&t=1&id=32364

BUTUAN CITY, May 13 --- The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Caraga regional office conducted an Assembly of Local Government Operations Officers (LGOOs) recently in one of the local convention centers here to assess the department’s projects, programs and activities (PPAs) for 2011.

DILG-Caraga Regional Director Rene Burdeos underscored the importance of DILG’s flagship PPAs such as the full disclosure policy, seal of good housekeeping/ local government performance management system, EXCELL, comprehensive development plan, capdev.

Burdeos also encouraged the LGOOs to popularize Sec. Jesse M. Robredo’s banner program which promotes transparency of LGUs financial transactions which is the full disclosure policy (FDP).

“Our PPAs serve as the cornerstone of this administration so we should institute ownership of functions when it comes to their implementation in the city/municipal level,” Burdeos said.

“Let us serve as point persons to make LGUs follow the DILG directives and instruments for LGUs to excel in local governance,” Burdeos added.

The participants were also given inputs on leadership competencies using the newly introduced ‘A-bility, B-uild, L-ink, E-nable (ABLE) framework’ and the ‘M-indset, P-rocess, A-ction, R-esult (MPAR) tool’ strategies.

Also, they were made to identify the issues and concerns with regards to the PPAs implementation and come up with solutions on how to improve their performance in ensuring that the PPAs are being properly implemented to attain transparent and accountable governance.

To put balance between work and health, Dr. Flordeliz Llesis, Department of Health (DOH) program coordinator on healthy lifestyle introduced strategies on how to manage stress and discussed topics on wellness and healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Llesis emphasized that if one aims to become a good leader, he has to maintain a work-life balance first and be physically fit and healthy. (DILG-XIII/PIA-Caraga)

Energy office targets 600 firms in enercon drive

Saturday, May 14, 2011

http://www.sunstar.com.ph/bacolod/local-news/2011/05/14/energy-office-targets-600-firms-enercon-drive-155470

ABOUT 600 companies nationwide are being targeted by the Department of Energy (DOE) to learn the concept of energy management and measures on energy efficiency and conservation (enercon).

DOE OIC-Assistant Director of the Energy Utilization Management Bureau Jesus Anunciacion told the Philippine Information Agency that they will introduce the concept to 600 companies nationwide and hope the participants will create their enercon committee or group, identify measures on how to save energy within their company, implement these measures and be able to determine their savings.

“The most important is the company policy. Top management should set targets if there are targets made by top management then everybody will follow to have a very good energy management system,” Anunciacion said.

He said Shoe Mart previously is not into energy management but now six to seven of their malls are winning each year in the annual Energy Conservation Awards and they would like to do energy management in all of their malls as they appreciate the system.

“Although we target the big companies because of the large amount of savings which can be generated by them, we do not forget of course the small and medium size companies, which is why we do trainings in the major cities as well,” Anunciacion added.

Meanwhile, the DOE and the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) conducted a national training-workshop on energy efficiency and conservation last May 11-12 at the L’Fisher Hotel, Bacolod City.

The training-workshop, which was participated in by 96 representatives from the academe, commercial and industrial sector and government agencies is the seventh of the 15 runs being conducted by DOE and DAP nationwide. Other cities where the training-workshop had been conducted included Pasig, Davao, Cagayan De Oro, Butuan, Baguio and Dumaguete.

It aims to introduce a concept of energy management and measures on energy efficiency and conservation where participants will be trained to do energy audit and energy consumption monitoring. (CGC)

Guys, Let me correct my statement above.

GOOD NEWS!

Ngayon ko lang nalaman that the FIESTA CARNIVAL will stay in Butuan until the month of August for the ADLAW HONG BUTUAN celebration.

I also heard (correct me if I'm wrong) that the company (who owned that Carnival) is renting that lot for 1.5M for the whole duration of their stay here which is from the month of May until end of August. They are also paying Amusement Tax to the city.

Entrance fee is 20.00/head. Rides I heard is 50.00. I am not sure if this amount applies for all the rides, I hope someone can give us info on this :)

it depends on the rides, naai tag 20 pesos for the cup and saucer ride na pang kids, 20 pesos pd ang kating disco2 nga uyog2 na ride. hehe

others ky 50 na pero i think its worth it na, labaw na ang sea dragon di ka magmahay sa imu 50 pesos. KOK
