BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Leaders of various non-government organizations, socio-civic groups, academe, religious groups and local government officials (LGUs) called yesterday for peace, development and progress, not only in Caraga region but in the entire island of Mindanao during a two-day peace forum and peace road show at Fr. Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) here.
Participants of the two-day forum also discussed key issues, articulated grievances and demands and recommendations for a just and lasting peace.
In the peace forum, participants also heard updates from government peace panel member Jurgette Honculada on the ongoing peace negotiations between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front of the Philippines (CPP-NPA-NDFP).
Honculada also spoke on issues confronting Caraga communities such as problems related to mining, illegal logging and delivery of basic services in far-flung areas.

this forum was designed to create awareness of an individual as to what's on the other side of the globe or in the neighboring cities through news, photos and discussions on skyscrapers, skylines, cities, architecture and urbanity. the most important thing here for me is to learn from each other.
wala man gi-mention nga magpalabwana'y ta or to put others down. can we just live happily and accept kung unsa naa sa ato-a?

Siguro the best way is to post na lang sa Surigao Thread ang tarpaulin sa Robinson's which clearly shows it has a mall. Mas grabe igo ani kaysa baslan nato siya ug bad words.
Anyway tama man pod siya nga Robinson's in Butuan will have residential units within the 14 hectare complex. If am not mistaken basi midrise condos ila ibutang.

BOB-bXu May 30th, 2011, 09:51 AM sir...i think wala man siguro gi compare ang surigao sa butuan..coz in the first place biskay unhon pag gukod sa surigao ang butuan interms of infra and other developments that butuan is currently facing and enjoying right now d gyud ma apas ng surigao..
lets just be happy na all this blessing is pouring on our region!:grouphug::okay::nocrook::banana:
we love butuan, we love caraga!!:rock::rock:
thank you white
I just wish some of the people share your cordial stance
If I may recall....there's one SSC forumer in Surigao who just existed for the purpose of putting down Butuan. He existed in many names he was Mr F then became aka Mr I am Me....then morph to a lot of other names up to now. His first post was a comparison of Butuan to the disorder of baclaran....then he spends most of the time taking a pot shot of everything negative on Butuan, while he does this, he sometimes shop in BXU, and transacts with DFA etc etc
everything he writes seems he looks for opportunities to slight BXU....even to the extent of mocking the status of the city as a HUC......then Capital city in the region.....even as why a regional office was in Butuan.....implying that Butuan as HUC was just a status and not a reality.
But what have he heard from us? We remained calm and urbane. Precisely because we know where we are. We know where Butuan is NOW. And I suppose He too must know where his place is NOW too.
Some people should stop making double faces....just as a few can make double to triple name accounts here at SSC. If they hate BXU just as they hate and envious of what and where they are now , then do NOT go to BXU....dont transact at BXU....or better do not use BXU facilities.
People need to learn where to put themselves.....and behave themselves especially here in a widely open fora like SSC. For it would be very comical to be acting or behaving like a somebody even if one is just a nobody.....or by saying to be 'number one' , 'top one' ... even if one is not even in the list.
lets be patient and remain humble. We should not elevate ourselves by making others as stepping planks
let bigots be bygones. Let the humbugs be humbled.
as an old saying goes, " A Drum that is empty-filled with Air....makes a lot of Noise''
capiche :)

Balangay romance: Love blooms at sea for mountain lover, prof

His love affair with the mountains is beyond doubt, having spent most of his life singing the most romantic serenade—the way only a possessed lover can do—to the precious forests and sacred rivers that had embraced him over the years.
Until quite recently, Fred Jamili, a 59-year-old experienced mountain climber, lived a life entirely devoted to the mountains.
Not that he has shaken off his passion for high places, but Fred has found a new love.
It is ironic that after more than three decades of conquering mountain peaks here and abroad, Fred would find his new love waiting for him to set foot in Zamboanga City.
And it was all thanks to the Philippine Balangay Expedition, which last year took replicas of the historic precolonial vessel on a triumphant 12,600-kilometer journey across the country and Southeast Asia.
Fred, who was a member of the First Philippine Mt. Everest Expedition Team’s technical and support group, was one of the voyage’s leaders.
His new love
In March 2010, the expedition’s three balangays (boat villages) docked in Zamboanga City, a few months before it completed its 15-month Asian voyage.
One of those who welcomed the expedition was Fred’s future bride, Russelle Tabuniar.
“I thought, yes, I will forever be married to the mountains. I had convinced myself that the mountains are my wives until I met her,” said Fred.
Russelle, 30, a history professor at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, will wed Fred, 59, today, something they both never imagined would happen to them until they met.
“This is a special wedding for the special woman in my life,” said the soft-spoken Fred.
The groom will be wearing a coat embellished with beads. The bride will wear a matte-gold beaded dress.
“We want it to be simple and something that will take us back to our cultural roots. The beads will connect us to the culture of the indigenous peoples. It is something that is always part of their life, art and culture,” said Russelle.
Shipboard wedding
The wedding will be celebrated on the Masawa Hong Butuan, one of the balangays, which is now moored at Barangay (village) Bading in Butuan City.It is the couple’s way of paying homage to the reason why their love blossomed.
“I met her because of the balangay. When we decided to get married, we both wished it to happen here,” said Fred, who is from Bago, Negros Occidental.
“It was not love at first sight. Nothing like that,” said Russelle of their first meeting when the expedition docked in Zamboanga City last year.
Russelle was part of the committee formed by Ateneo de Zamboanga to hold a symposium on the voyage.
“That was a very formal meeting. We were not even properly introduced. Even during dinner, the discussion was very formal but she already made a good impression on me because she was very knowledgeable about history,” said Fred.
A texting romance
Two months after they met, Fred and Russelle were in love.
There was no formal courtship. Everything happened through constant texting.
“We just found ourselves in love with each other. The words and the process of courtship were no longer needed,” said Russelle.
A month after they first met, Fred told Russelle by text message that he wanted to marry her. And then over dinner in Pagadian City, he personally proposed marriage, which she happily accepted.
“She is outgoing and we have almost the same interests. Academically, she is into history. It’s like we’re similar in a lot of things, something that I have not found in other women,” he said.
“She is very special to me,” he added.
For Russelle, married life is something unimaginable if it were not with Fred.
“He is adventurous. I love the fact that he understands the life that I was imagining to be. I am very adventurous myself and I want to spend a lot of my time outdoors. Other men would not understand that,” she said.
Better late than never
Art Valdez, Fred’s mountain climbing partner since 1979 and the Balangay expedition leader, said their group was happy that “[Fred] has found someone other than the mountains.”
“All his life, he had no one to care about, he was carefree and always out there … it is worth celebrating that he has finally found something that will temper him and will complete the cycle of life,” said Valdez, a former transportation undersecretary who chairs the Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines.
“It is better late than never,” he added with a laugh, remembering the bridegroom’s age.
According to Valdez, a lot of things changed in Fred after he met Russelle.
“He was always cross. A terror. Very strict. But when he found love, he changed. Love brightened him, lightened him up,” he said.
But Valdez, who will be godfather at the wedding, hopes that Fred’s romance with the mountains and the great outdoors will not be weakened by marriage.
“But I am confident that Fred will always be part of our expeditions. His wife will understand,” he said.
Like launching a ship
As for his advice to the couple, Valdez said: “Marriage is like the launching of a ship in an unchartered sea. It is full of challenges but determination and love will be able to bring you to that desired destination. Overcome the big waves and bad weather. And it will make the journey worth it.”
For Fred and Russelle, marriage only signals the beginning of their journey together.
“I know it will be an exciting journey with him. People asked me if I am excited about the wedding day and yes, I am. But what I am more excited about is the journey with him, that life with him,” Russelle said.
And Fred has another adventure in his mind.
“We are not only living a new life as husband and wife but we will also be building our own boat house, our own balangay,” he said.

Ramon Dy's businesses are dynamic too.....He just completed his Red Palm Suites and is again about to open another Red Apple branch at Ronwood^^
I am sure he will Bob.
During the term pa ni Mrs. Maming Magno as Brgy.Captain of Bayanihan (this was around late 2009), my dad told me she asked the permission of Ramon Dy to use this lot ( meantime that it's idle ) for a vegetable garden project of the Barangay. Wala nisugot si Mr.Dy kay gamiton daw niya ang lot anytime.
Who knows, that "anytime" could be this year na :D

Registry of trade groups in the country set for launch
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDOMay 31, 2011, 3:58pm
http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/320653/registry-trade-groups-country-set-launch
BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – The government is set to launch this month the Philippine Business Registry (PBR) that will interconnect all relevant national agencies and private groups doing business in the country, officials said Tuesday.
The PBR program is expected to be a big help to investors, both foreign and domestic.
The PBR is a one-stop shop business processing that also seeks to eliminate “red tape,” the officials said.
In a press statement, the Department of Trade and Industry-Center for Industrial Competitiveness (DTI-CIC) said the PBR project will also support the agencies’ National Economic Research and Business Action Center (NERBAC).
NERBAC is already spread in strategic areas in the Caraga region.
The objective of the PBR is to ease doing business in the country.
Virgilio Fulgencio, Executive Director of the Department of Trade and Industry-Center for Industrial Competitiveness (DTI-CIC), said another project, the Business Permits and Licensing System (BPLS), would streamline the processes in getting business permits and licenses from city and municipal governments.
BPLS is an ongoing project of the DTI, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the League of Cities of the Philippines.
The project hopes to reduce to only five steps in a single unified form the processing of new business permits and business renewals, added Fulgencio, also the director for operations of the National Competitiveness Council (NCC) representing the public sector.
For the export sector, Fulgencio said, the National Single Window project shortens the processing time for permits, licenses and clearances. Led by the Bureau of Customs (BoC), this project links at least 10 government agencies involved in foreign trade.

Guys, as of this morning, the whole front side of SHELL Gasoline Station in JCAA is already fenced.
My friend told me (wife of one of the sons of the owner) this is a 3,000sq.meters lot and only "HALF" ( which is 1,500sq.meters) was put on sale.
she didn't say why they only wanted to sell half of the lot.
But she revealed nga naa nay nakapalit nga Davao based businessman. she has no idea yet what this new owner plan to do.

MANILA, Philippines - One Network Bank (ONB) got the nod of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) recently for five new branch licenses. The branches will be located in Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat; Barangay Sangali, Zamboanga City; Bagangga, Davao Oriental; Butuan City (the second branch); and Makati City (DOSRI branch). The new branches bring ONB’s total branch network to 85, still the largest among the country’s 598-strong rural banking system. jsl_bxu1206 June 2nd, 2011, 05:34 AM PRC Agusan Norte, Butuan City holds “Dinner for a Cause”
by Robert E. Roperos
BUTUAN CITY, June 1 (PIA) – Philippine Red Cross’ (PRC) humanitarian mission continues with the holding of a fund raising campaign here.
The “Dinner for a Cause” was attended by around 500 people from all walks of life, most of them businessmen, government workers and private individuals.
A film showing, which explained the rationale for the gathering, preceeded the program.
In his speech, PRC Board Chair Felixberto Guiritan emphasized that the P500 meal ticket bought from the PRC means a lot in saving the lives of others. “You must be proud of what you did tonight… This means that you are determined to help others to live,” he said.
“Because of what you did tonight, you are now considered not only as one of PRC’s benefactors but as well as benefactors to other people,” Guiritan said.
Furthermore, Guiritan said the activity is only the beginning of its series of fund raising campaign to ensure that services of PRC will continue to benefit the people not only here in the region but for the country and even in the whole world as well.
The activity was made possible through the Agusan del Norte-Butuan City chapter of PRC. (PIA-Caraga)
