this must be the hotel I mentioned last year whom my lawyer batch mate notarized the documents of property acquisition

there is also a big recently landfillled lot beyond the ANECO substation on the left side going towards the airport (I am not referring to that another landfilled lot fronting Ideal Homes)

I hope nga na they'll be able to improve soon. Sayang kasi kay bag-o siya yet they failed to meet expectations already. Their rates are honestly not justified by their facilities. I and my two other friends once stayed in a budget hotel right at the heart of CDO with fairly decent facilities and it cost us less than their triple room rates.

it was announced by a radio commentator allied with the Plaza family this morning of the finalization of the Plaza family and SM prime deal by last quarter of this year regarding their 2nd property in Baan Km3

Sana after SM, musunod ang Ayala.. I actually prefer developments made by Ayala because they are more environmentally-sound and aesthetically-pleasing..

that's likely....if Rob and SM are there....Ayala will likely take a close look on BXU in the future

BOB is right! Usually that's the sequence between these BIG 3... nauuna ang ROB then SM will follow suit tapos ayala na naman...

I can foresee the future (albeit a self - fulfilling one) where GENSAN and BXU will have their own AYALA MALLS to boast.... :)

MANILA, Philippines - Stanhome World Philippines which carries Europe’s No. 1 direct-selling brand and was launched here last March, in the south after attracting a steady-growing consumer and representative base.

“We have received positive results from our launch and our products were welcomed and well accepted by both representatives and consumers. In fact, more and more people are signing up to be Stanhome independent supervisors and managers,” Stanhome World Philippines president Ina Quiogue said.

Stanhome World Philippines started out with four service centers in Metro Manila an has expanded by launching new branches at prime locations in the south, namely in Cagayan de Oro, Davao and Butuan City.

“We are very encouraged by the results from our Cagayan de Oro and Davao branches and are optimistic that by opening a Butuan service center, we will strengthen our presence in Mindanao,” Quiogue added.

The Butuan service center opened on June 11 and was attended by Stanhome World International director general and chief executive officer German Martinez and Jose Mari Franco, the acknowledged “father of direct selling” in the Philippines. It is the seventh Stanhome World Philippines service center in three months, “a welcome addition to the previously launched branches in Muñoz, Marikina, Novaliches, Shaw Boulevard, Cagayan de Oro and Davao.”

“Mindanaoans can now go to these newly opened service centers to become Stanhome independent supervisors (SIS) and order, pick up products and deliver them to their customer,” said Quiogue. Stanhome World Philippine followers have more to look forward to as more outlets in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are set to open in the second half of 2011.

Stanhome World is one of the companies under Groupe Yves Rocher, the top cosmetic brand in France. Stanhome World is known for its home care products like Germ-Trol, Degreaser, Stop Insect and its family care products like Rested Legs, Hand Repair, Foot Repaid and Derma Repair.

For beauty it is known for its body shaping creams, soaps and whitening line.

To find out more about the company and its products, visit the Stanhome World Philippines Facebook fanpage, email feedback@stanhomeworldph.com, contact 091-STANHOME (0917-826466) or visit them at their locations: CDO (Rm 100, De Leon Plaza Bldg., Velez, Yacapin Sts., Cagayayn de Oro City), Davao City (Ficco Bldg., Ponciano St. Davao City 8000) and Butuan City (Cabatuando Commercial Bldg., JC Aquino Ave., Libertad, Butuan City).

Stanhome World is known for its home care products like Germ-Trol, Degreaser, Stop Insect and its family care products like Rested Legs, Hand Repair, Foot Repaid and Derma Repair.

how huge is this land-filled property? taman ra ni sa dalan pasulod sa DSWD or mas gamay pa?

I think land filling works just started so we cannot make yet an estimate how big is this property.

By the way, remember that unfinished building @ the back of LTO? (posted here last year I think), construction work has now resumed ^^

GUYS,

I noticed the Pole Scaffoldings that were set up @ DOTTIES Hotel this morning. I think they will be doing repainting works of their Building's exterior facade.

Makes me wonder, you think they're now getting the Hotel ready for the coming of the CASINO? Ang giignon ra ba ni Counselor Culima (during the "Kasandigan" interview w/ TV Patrol Caraga weeks ago) nga PAGCOR would want to start operation by September....

Any update about this? What happened to the public hearing? matutuloy ba talaga ang CASINO?

(mqrp/asf)

Farm home visit beneficial to 86 barangays
by Malou Furia and Ritchelle Encabo

BUTUAN CITY, July 20 -- Farm home visits of Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. through the City Agriculturist Office in the 86 barangays is another big leap in the economic advancement in the field of agriculture of this city.

The first recipients of the above stated activity are barangays Los Angeles, Mahay, and Ampayon which started last July 5.

Farm home visits to identified agricultural barangays will allow agricultural technicians (ATs) to listen, assess, evaluate, and determine the problems of the farmers (before, during and after the cropping season).

This way, ATs serve as direct links between farmers and governmental agencies in resolving agricultural concerns.

One sample problem encountered by some farmers at Bgy. Mahay is siltation which resulted to almost nil production during the season. The AT brought the matter to the National Irrigation and was assured of an immediate action.

Usually, a follow-up on the recent and updated agricultural methodologies is the usual agenda during the tour. Through farm visits, farmers from the remote areas can save their hard earned money in paying fares to the city proper since their first hand problem is already resolved within the level. WHY man kadayao?? if that is so, how come there's this "NEW" Ad Billboard of GOTHONG SOUTHERN FERRIES? Their Ad is placed along the highway of Bancasi before reaching St.Peter's.

This Billboard is very recent lang since wala pa ni sya last month when I went to the airport 2nd week of June.

Took these shots about an hour ago on my way to the Airport this afternoon.

as i've noticed, gamay ra sila passengers going to cebu pero i think that's not the bulk of their sales. i think mas dako ang sales nila sa freight.

okay ra man unta nga naa sila para daily ang barko para cebu. alternates man sila sa cebu ferries in terms of sched plus naa PSACC every Tue and Fri.

WHY man kadayao?? if that is so, how come there's this "NEW" Ad Billboard of GOTHONG SOUTHERN FERRIES? Their Ad is placed along the highway of Bancasi before reaching St.Peter's.

Butuan City to update land use plan
JULY 21 2011
Business Week Mindanao
http://www.businessweekmindanao.com/content/?p=4142

BUTUAN CITY – The City Government of Butuan is set to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board – Northern Mindanao Region (HLURB-NMR) to update the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) of the city for the period 2011 to 2016. In an endorsement note to City Vice Mayor Law Fortun last July 8, 2011, Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. requested the Sangguniang Panlungsod for an authority to sign in behalf of the City government of Butuan and enter into a MOA with the said office regarding the updating of the said plan.

Seeing the urgency of the request, the SP headed by Fortun immediately passed a resolution for this purpose last July 11, 2011. Under the terms of the MOA, the HLURB will “provide the technical assistance to the local planning staff and members of the technical working group on the updating of the said plan.” The said office will also conduct the GIS-Mapping training to monitor land use changes and inventory of lands in consonance with R.A. 7279. It will also mainstream the Disaster Rick Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation strategies (CCA) in the plan. On the part of the City government, it will appropriate the amount of ₱2 million to defray the expenses for the said updating. Through the Office of the City Planning and Development Coordinator (OCPDC) it will also identify the CLUP project team, organize the Technical Working Group and enlist the support of the private sector, non-government organizations and the general public.

The CLUP updating to cover the period 2011 to 2016 is seen as vital for the city to attain a sustainable and resilient development especially with the advent of renewed investor confidence in the City of Butuan.

Multi-sectors participate in the Regional Consultation on Phil Youth Dev’t Plan 2011-2016 in Butuan
by Jennifer P. Gaitano

http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=1&t=1&id=44717

BUTUAN CITY, July 21 (PIA) –- About 60 representatives from government line agencies, non-government organizations, Pag-Asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP), business sector, academe, religious, youth-serving organizations and among other youth sectors of the region participated in the Regional Consultation on the Philippine Youth Development Plan (PYDP) 2011-2016 in Caraga spearheaded by the National Youth Commission (NYC), held Wednesday, July 20, 2011.

It can be recalled that the NYC has formally started the process of formulating the PYDP 2011-2016 as a companion document of the recently approved Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2011-2016.

The formulation of the PYDP shall apply an inclusive process and identify (a) key issues facing the youth, (b) opportunities, enabling conditions and proposed strategies and policies which government, other duty bearers and other stakeholders further create and provide, and (c) the appropriate role and activities which the youth should perform in the economy, society and local community and their families.

Mr. Rex F. Ybañez, Chief Executive Officer of the Caraga Youth Leaders' Network Inc. said that Caraga is lucky to be part of the historic regional consultation hence the Caraganon youth leaders can explicitly and directly express their sentiments and youth program towards the Government.

“The National Youth Commission officials under the Office of the President of the Philippines will also hear the Caraganon youth sentiments straight from them,” said Ybañez.

Also, NYC ASec. Earl Saavedra, Commissioner representing Mindanao discussed youth issues and concerns related to education, employment, environment, health and well-being, and others based on the 2010 national youth assessment study by the NYC.

“Youths in different places face different issues and concerns which really need to be addressed,” Saavedra stressed.

Saavedra also bared that based on the 2010 national youth assessment study, among the general findings in the study revealed that 91% of the 23% of the age bracket 25-30 think they are unemployed because they lack work skills; 12-15% of all ages claim to have experienced being abused or exploited; 53-60% of all ages brackets would prefer to work abroad because of higher pay; and 7-8% of all ages dropped out of school after becoming drug dependent.

Meanwhile, all the participants grouped themselves by sector and undergone workshop to identify and specify its programs and services intended for the youth that will also be intensified from 2011-2016.

One of the issues raised from the youth leaders is that they really want to get involved with the government’s policy making and that their voices will be heard.

While the representatives from the government line agencies, non-government organizations, business sector and academe presented their programs and services for the youths, the youth leaders also actively participated by raising their issues and concerns and expressing their suggestions on how would these available programs and services from different sectors fit to their needs, and that would answer the youths’ existing problems.

With this, NYC assured the youth leaders in Caraga that all their suggestions/recommendations will be brought up to Office of the President and be properly addressed. (PIA-Caraga)

What Were You Thinking?: Sailing Around South East Asia on a Balangay
Posted on: 18 July 2011
Author: Macky Calo

Last December 2010, a group of 40 daring Filipinos landed from a 14-month maritime voyage around Southeast Asia and the Philippines aboard three replicas of ancient Malay wooden sailboats called balangays. The 14,000-kilometer expedition aimed to uncover the legitimacy of the balangay by pursuing the trading itineraries of the Filipino seafaring ancestors using boats that were accurately built consistent to the traditional design and materials of this celebrated vessel, and only using navigation techniques available 1700 years ago. Propelled only by sails and paddles, the crew completed the journey without motor engines, and without radars.
crop_nico_and_sato.jpg

Two of these gallant adventurers were volunteers from Butuan City: Nico Dominic Calo, a 29-year old scuba diving instructor, and 28-year-old Samuel Thomas Lim Raypon (Sato), a freelance photographer, and a mountaineer. I got a chance to hang out with these young lads at my lounge bar, and got to relive the thrills and pains of their balangay experience vicariously through their stories, with the help of 9 bottles of beers. Here is what transpired:

What were your personal reasons for joining this expedition?

Nico: I had qualms about joining because I thought 1 year was too long for a trip like this, but my father forced me to join, so I did. I wanted to make my father proud.

Sato: I am a mountaineer. I wanted to put my navigation skills to a test, but this time at sea, which is quite the opposite.

The trip took 14 months! What did you have to give up for this?

Nico: My source of income and love life! I was starting a scuba dive shop in Carmen, and had a budding relationship with my girlfriend. After a year of being away, I had to shut these down. Had I not joined the voyage, I would have been married by now.

Sato: -- Income from photography. But I have no regrets!

Have you ever traveled out of the country?

Both: No.

Describe the boat to me. What so special about this boat?
docked.jpg

Nico: At first I thought: "Damn, this boat is small!" It accommodated 14 crew members. It was made of wood, using no nails. Just natural resins and hardwood pegs. There were leaks everywhere! And oh, no toilet!

Sato: It has no motor, no outrigger. It has spirit--it sails well with the waves. Today, only two tribes in the Philippines can construct this boat. One is the "Sama de Laya" of Tawi-Tawi, and the other one is from Batanes.

So no toilet, huh? How did you perform your ablutions?

Nico: We have mastered the art of cleaning ourselves with just 1 liter of fresh water! I can't explain how we actually "went to the toilet" without a toilet, but I have a funny picture of one us doing it! Taking that picture was the best part of the trip!

Sato: When we docked on our destinations, the first thing we did, before anything else, was to rush to a public toilet. We did miss fresh water showers, and the comforts of having a toilet.

What were the sleeping arrangements?

Nico: When we left the Philippines, we slept in the boats, even when we were docked. The boats had some roofing that could cover 8 people. We were 14 in the boat. So 6 of us just had to manage to sleep somehow. But when you are really tired, you can sleep through anything.

Sato: There was no real sleeping arrangement. You just pick a spot and try your best to knock yourself out.

Eating arrangements?

Nico: None. We didn't have mess halls. We ate fish, fish, and nothing but fish. After a while, we got sick of fish.

Sato: We learned how to fish. We caught a 5-kilo tuna. We caught marlin. I enjoyed trying out local dishes every time we disembarked on foreign land.

What else did you do when you docked?

Nico: During the Philippine leg, we held symposiums in elementary schools, high schools, and universities. We talked about the Balangays and our history during that time. We docked in Manila, Bacolod, Cebu, Romblon, Boracay, Siocon (Zamboanga), and many more.

Sato: I will tell you one thing we DID NOT do: go to the beach. After being out in the sea for so long, the last thing you want to do is hang out at the beach. I didn't even swim in Boracay! I would always rush to the nearest KFC and have my fried chicken!

What were the fun parts of the trip?

Nico: Cliff diving at Ariel's Point in Boracay. Unlimited food, great accommodations, and hospitality. Life was good!

Sato: Being a photographer, seeing the Angkor Wat temples in Cambodia was a treat! I pulled away from the pack so that I could take great pictures!

What was the best part?

Nico: The best part is during the symposiums, when you see people get inspired about the expedition and the history that comes with it.

Sato: People got teary-eyed when one of us talked about feeling lucky for being able to see the world starting with just a DREAM--that if you dream it, it will happen. Some of us, before this voyage, had not even gone out of the country, like most of those kids from the public schools. And now we are talking about our travels from so many different places.

What was the scariest part?

Nico: Close encounters with "Ipo-ipo" in Tawi-Tawi, Malaysia, and during the Kuching to Batam, Indonesia leg.

Sato: We had what I thought was a close call during the Boracay to Semirara leg. About three nautical miles from the shoreline, the waves got so choppy; our boat hit a coral rock. We were repairing the damage underway.

I also got scared when we ended up illegally docking on a small island in Indonesia without immigration documents due to bad weather, feeling hopeless. But I think we did the best thing not to proceed to our original destination.

What was the hardest part?

Nico: Four days straight of big waves at the gulf of Thailand. The waves were so huge; I could not even make out the 25-meter masts of the other boats. We couldn't sleep well in those conditions, because we had to grab onto something just to stabilize.

Sato: These were times when our patience and strength were put to test. We were forced to gauge ourselves in the face of imminent danger. It was during these moments, when I asked myself: "What the hell am I doing here?"

Yes, all THAT for 14 months! Really, what were you thinking?

Nico: ALL THAT to prove a point, to make a statement--that Filipinos, along with other Southeast Asian islands, were already trading and building a nation/ even before the conquerors came. The balangay is proof of that. Our voyage confirms that. More than a replica, our balangay was a time machine that traced not only maritime routes but also an undervalued part of history. We sailed to recover our identity, and rediscover ourselves as a nation.

Sato: The balangay is an icon that stands for unity. By knowing more of our past, we can now sail towards the future, united as a country. That if we work together, we can achieve greatness which is the heritage of our ancestors.

Balangay as the Butuan Boat

The balangay is also known as the "Butuan Boat" not only because the artifact was excavated in this city in the 1970s, but mainly because just like Nico and Sato, Butuan is a city that truly embraced this part of Philippine history, so much that it celebrates it with a month-long Balangay Festival, that has a tourism pitch that slants towards it. The Balangay ranged from 15 to 50 meters long and 4 to 11 meters wide. Construction of which was taught from one generation to another without blueprints, and only using primitive handmade tools.

Come to Butuan to know more! One of the Balangay replicas, named "Masawa Hong Butuan," can be rented out for a 2-hour cruise along the Agusan River. For 4500 pesos, a group of 30 persons can bask in the glory of the balangay and get a glimpse of what our ancestors experienced while on the boat. Contact the tourism office for reservations.

The Balangay Shrine Museum in Baranggay Libertad displays the original relic of the boat. Here, you can also view the actual excavation site from where the balangays were unearthed. Our regional museum in Baranggay Doongan provides more insight into Butuan society around 320 AD by showcasing artifacts found inside the excavated boats. Call 085-342-5328 for inquiries about the museums.

Guys,

I think i've already mentioned that DURATRAK's lease contract will end na this coming July 31. What I've heard, they will soon move out since dili naman daw ipa renew ilang contract.

Owner of that lot where Duratrak is sitting is no other than HT Santos family ang tag-iya sa Tita's Cafe.

I wonder what their plans are para ana nga area. Let's watch out for that.

OWWA-Caraga starts info drive on 2-billion reintegration program
by Ritchel M. Molero

BUTUAN CITY, July 21 – In response to the pressing issues and concerns of the OFWs, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration-Regional Welfare Office Caraga has officially started its month-long information drive themed “2 Billion OFW Reintegration Caravan” on July 13, 2011.

The 2 Billion Reintegration Program aims to provide economic opportunities for returning OFWs affected by political conflicts in the Middle East and other countries seriously stricken by natural and economic calamities.

Recently, OWWA-Caraga together with LBP-Butuan represented by Mr. Jimmy P. Arco, Head of LBP Butuan’s Lending Center and DBP-Butuan represented by Ms. Edina F. Mercado, Senior Manager launched the 2Billion OFW Reintegration Program at Balanghai Hotel, Butuan City.

More than 300 OFWs and dependents from Butuan City and the four provinces of Caraga Region attended the launching.

OWWA-Caraga is set to launch the 2 Billion Reintegration Program in the 70 municipalities of Caraga, including the far-flung provinces of Dinagat Island, Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur. OIC Marieta A. Lumawag herself will be hands-on throughout the launching of the program to ensure easy access to the information that would help the OFWs come up with well-informed decisions.

On July 20, 2011, RWO-Caraga will launch the program in Agusan del Sur that has 410 active OFWs in the Middle East. Surigao del Norte including Dinagat Island is set to be visited on the 25th to 30th of July 2011 that has 897 active OFWs. First week of August is scheduled for the launching of the 2 Billion Reintegration Program in Surigao del Sur with 744 active OFWs.

The 2 Billion Reintegration Program is greatly appreciated by the Caraganon OFWs. According to OFW Reynaldo Igbuta the 7.5 % per annum interest rate and loan repayment of 7 years are indicators that the said loan program is indeed pro-OFW welfare.

RWO-Caraga encourages all Caraganon OFWs to attend the ongoing “OFW 2 Billion Reintegration Program Caravan” at the dates stated above for an in depth understanding of the program. Daily briefings and small group orientation are also given by the technical personnel of the RWO to answer the growing need for information and guidance on the program. (OWWA-Caraga/PIA-Caraga)

Multi-sectors participate in the Regional Consultation on Phil Youth Dev’t Plan 2011-2016 in Butuan

by Jennifer P. Gaitano

http://piacaraga.blogspot.com/

Guys, I passed by Doongan this morning & I saw two U/C Buildings wherein one is already installed with aluminum claddings. These two U/C are located in the same compound adtung Hydrolic Building posted here before, remember?

I also saw 2 new structures nearby. I just couldn't take pictures coz there were people outside the gate talking to the security guard. I'll try again next sunday, hopefully by that time the coast will be clear :D

There's a soon to open G&G PIZZA in Libertad, saw the tarp placed @ the fence of the U/C PNP Hospital.

I also spotted a SPA RESORT Tarp placed sa crossing of that housing subd.near the Gothong billboard in Bancasi. Too bad i didn't bring my cam. Dili man gud noticeable kay ka cute pud sa tarp.

this G&G PIZZA will be located at the newly opened kristine arcade in libertad - the arcade is owned by kristine lechon manok fame... libertad have their shares of the development also but seldom noticed -- "K"

A M A Z I N G ^^

barangay dulag 15 years ago had a terrible reputation of being one of the NPA infested area....

NOW ...huge plantations of high value crops abound its rolling terrain.....traversed now with a newly paved spanking concrete highway (Butuan-Esperanza-Bukidnon Highway) ^^
