'Transportasyon sa Butuan City, 80-90% paralisado'
Last Updated on Monday, 19 September 2011 10:48
Monday, 19 September 2011 10:46

http://www.bomboradyo.com/news/latest-news/77220-transportasyon-sa-butuan-city-80-90-paralisado

Therma South secures ECC for coal project

| More |

Sunday, September 18, 2011

ABOITIZPOWER (AP) subsidiary Therma South Inc. is one step closer to starting the construction of its P25 billion 300-megawatt (MW) CFB coal-fired power plant project in Davao City, after receiving its Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) recently.

The Environment Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) issued the certification last September 9, 2011.

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

The ECC, addressed to Therma South vice president Thomas Sliman, means the project has complied with government requirements to ensure that the project, once constructed and operational, will not cause significant negative impact on the environment.

The document also certifies that the project's Environmental Impact Study (EIS) and its operational and environmental protection plans received positive reviews from independent reviewers.

The ECC was signed by EMB OIC director Juan Miguel T. Cuna.

"We are happy to receive the ECC and AboitizPower, true to its promise of building a clean, safe and efficient power plant, will ensure that the facility will meet Philippine environmental standards as required by the certificate," Manuel M. Orig, AP vice president for Mindanao Affairs, said.

"AboitizPower has been in Mindanao for more than 50 years and we will continue to live up to our reputation of corporate responsibility by providing clean, reliable and affordable power with this project," Orig said.

Therma South will continue to secure permits and clearances from other National Government agencies, as well as from local government units like Davao City and the municipality of Sta. Cruz before it could start construction. The project will take 40 months to build.

The project earlier received endorsements from the Davao City Council, the Municipal Council of Sta. Cruz, as well as the host barangays of Binugao in Toril and Inawayan in the Davao del Sur side.

The EMB-DENR, through the ECC ordered Therma South to "implement the measures presented in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIS) and the Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan (EMMOP), intended to protect and mitigate the project's adverse impacts on community health, welfare and the environment."

"Environmental considerations shall be incorporated in all phases and aspects of the project," the ECC added.

With Mindanao's demand for energy constantly growing amid increasing population and rapid development in many towns and cities, the island's power supply is at a precarious stage and is seen to run short in the next couple of years.

By 2014, government and independent think tank estimates project that Mindanao will be short of around 480 MW of power, enough to cut power supply entirely to the cities of Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Gen. Santos, Butuan and Zamboanga.

Mindanao's heavy dependence on hydropower coming from the Agus-Pulangi complex also negatively affects the power situation during the summer months and long dry spells.

The Therma South project is aimed at addressing the shortage while lessening the island's dependence on hydropower, using modern CFB technology that ensures the reduction of sulphur emissions into the atmosphere.

Published in the Sun.Star Davao newspaper on September 19, 2011.

Here's good news guys,

Anothe HOTEL will soon add the list of our hotels in the city....

Actually, they're still in the early stage of planning since the location is not even finalize yet although already identified.

The said owner of this planned hotel decided not to have a highrise this time (upppsss....that's a hint folks hehehe), the plan is to put up only a 3 or 4 storey building BUT it should be a large one.

I learned from our inside source that thay are considering two possible locations: The Gillamacs area (including the lot @ the back kay daku man daw ang likod ani) OR that vacant lot at the back of Asialink.

When I suggested the Caraga square area, he was surprised, he didn't know it's up for sale......sasabihin daw nya sa owner ng hotel.

SM Prime to open 5 new malls in 2012
By Zinnia B. Dela Peña (The Philippine Star) Updated September 19, 2011 12:00 AM Comments (0)

source: http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?publicationSubCategoryId=66&articleId=728579

MANILA, Philippines - SM Prime Holdings Inc., the country’s largest retail landlord, is aggressively scaling up its operations to bring total gross floor area to 6.2 million square meters by end-2012.

Jeffrey C. Lim, executive vice-president and chief finance officer of SM Prime, said the company is opening five malls next year - in Gen Santos City, Sucat BF, Novaliches and Consolacion, Cebu.

Also slated for opening in 2012 is SM Chongqing in southwestern China. Estimated to cost around 900 million yuan, the project will cover a land area of over 66,700 square meters in the Liangjiang new district of Chongqing.

The expected end-2012 GLA is 19.2 percent higher than this year’s estimated GLA of 5.2 million square meters.

Later this year, SM Prime is set to open an expanded SM City San Fernando in Pampanga, SM City Olongapo in Zambales and SM City Suzhou in China to bring its total nationwide network to 43 and four in China by year end.

SM Gen. Santos City will be the group’s third largest among SM malls in Mindanao after SM City Davao renovated and SM Lanang also in Davao opened. It will rise on an eight-hectare leased prime property along Santiago Blvd and San Miguel within the central business district of Gen. Santos.

according to my structural analysis and foundation design.

using provisions from national structural code of the phils..

in butuan

for every 1 basement (underground) excavation... pwde 5 floors sa building
for unexcavated.. pwede 3 floors

so kung naa building nga naa 1 basement. pwede 8 floors tanan

according to my structural analysis and foundation design.

using provisions from national structural code of the phils..

in butuan

for every 1 basement (underground) excavation... pwde 5 floors sa building
for unexcavated.. pwede 3 floors

so kung naa building nga naa 1 basement. pwede 8 floors tanan

:banana::banana::banana:

pila ka building ang may basement sa butuan?

just for curiosity's sake:nuts:, ako lang gi compute2x:nuts:. hehe ako pud itudlo sa ako mga students sa fsuu civil engineering..

not quite sure.. i only know is kanang sa pldt and gaisano..

most believe dili pwde kay naa lage daw flooding problem.. thats not a big problem actually, patas-an lang gud elevation sa entrances daun waterproof ang walls and floors sa basement..

technically speaking.. kung magbutang ka basement sa imu 4-5 story building.. pwede paka dugang additional floors in the future.. (think about real estate prices)

sa ako computation, ako gipalutaw ang building.. same concept sa barko..

Santos.

The SM Malls that will be opening in 2012 are those that are already under construction. The article didn't state where SM will be constructing malls next.

GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- SM City General Santos, Mindanao's biggest mall is set to open in the first quarter of next year in this city, touted as the country's "tuna capital", targeting a huge retail market in one of the country’s fastest growing regions, the Soccsksargen area.

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. president Hans T. Sy, on Sunday said SM Gensan has a total floor area of 150,000 square meters, including the parking area, situated in a 17-hectare property they are leasing from one of the city’s pioneering families -- the Salazars.

"This our biggest in Mindanao," Sy told Sun.Star Davao.

Sy was in this city to grace the opening of newly widened 440 meter San Miguel street in Lagao, where one of the entrances of the mall is located. SM Prime Holdings spent P4 million for the project.

Also at the event are city officials, led by City Mayor Darlene Antonino, Representative Pedro Acharon and the Salazar matriarch Sufradia Las Marias Salazar.

The property where SM Gensan stands is covered by a 20-year lease contract entered by SM Prime Holdings and the Salazars.

"Everytime we invest in a place, we always see that we have the return of investment in 9-10 years, so the 10-year contract would be okay," Sy said.

Sy said total investment they have poured in for the construction of the Gensan mall, which is now 90 percent complete, is pegged at P2.5 billion, much higher than their investment for the construction of SM Lanang in Davao City, placed at P2 billion. SM Lanang is targeted to be completed in the last quarter of next year.

"This is our thrust. We want to intensify our presence in Mindanao," Sy said, but was quick to add SM has no plan of getting hold or monopolize the retail market on the island.

"We are here not to eat the pie, but we’re here to make the pie bigger," he said.

Sy said their next target in Mindanao, after the opening of SM Lanang next year, are the cities of Butuan and Zamboanga.

"These are the two areas we are looking at. The property we eye for the construction of these malls is now under negotiation," he said.

SM to open Mindanao's biggest mall in GenSan
Tuesday, September 20, 2011
Business Mirror By Manuel T. Cayon / Reporter

GENERAL SANTOS CITY—The SM chain of shopping malls is opening its largest mall in Mindanao in General Santos City early next year, Hans T. Sy, president of SM Prime Holdings Inc., said on Monday.

Local businesses and mall owners who feel threatened by the P2.5-billion shopping center were assured by Sy that the SM mall would “enlarge the [local] pie and would not saturate the market.”

He said SM’s presence as a retailer would enlarge the retail sector in the city, citing its experience in Pampanga and Baguio, where SM “brought in the businesses from the nearby areas to the host city.”

“It’s not really a question of saturation; it’s about bringing excitement to local business,” he said.

As for fears of terrorist bombings that occasionally hit this southern city, Sy told reporters, “If we wait for the peace and order to be ensured, we would not be here now.”

Sy turned over to the city government an additional two lanes for San Miguel Street, which traverses the back portion of the mall, and spans 466 meters long. SM has also installed a P53-million drainage system, which would benefit a section of the city at the side of the SM mall in Lagao district, north of downtown GenSan.

The mall structure, now nearly finished, covers 150,000 square meters, bigger than the two SM malls in Davao City and the one in Cagayan de Oro City.

Sy said SM would also hire 8,000 personnel, which would help bring additional revenue for this city, which, Mayor Darleen Antonino-Custodio boasted, is the center of economic and financial activities in the region that includes Sarangani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and North Cotabato.

Sy also said the SM mall would be designed differently, compared with its first mall in Ecoland, Davao City and in Cagayan de Oro City.

Aside from anchor stores that are common in most SM malls, new stores would be invited to display their products in the new mall. “The common stores would consist of 20 percent of store renters; the new ones 80 percent,” he said.

“We would be bringing in the lifestyle of Manila here, with the same price and style,” he added.

SM is eyeing two more malls in Mindanao within the next three years, he said, citing Zamboanga City and Butuan City as the most likely locations.

He said the acquisition of the land was yet to be concluded in Butuan City.

He said the acquisition of the land was yet to be concluded in Butuan City.

wow.....for conclusion na ang acquisition of the lot....( I am seeing an emerging east side of the city once that Baan Highway lot is finally acquired for the mall)....

just as Robinsons opens....savemore will be probably midway in the construction....just as savemore opens.....then the SM City will immediately commence construction

SM to open Mindanao's biggest mall in GenSan

WHAAT? after 3 years pa?

mike, the article clearly stated "within the next 3 years" and NOT after 3 years  there's a BIG difference you know. Pag sinabing within the next 3 years, ibig sabihin na sa loob ng tatlong taon na tu (from 2012 to 2014) mangyayari ang construction & opening of Malls ng Zambo & Butuan.

what if the building designer opted not to have a basement and still wanting to build an 8 to 10 storey structure.....is it still possible by using pile driving method of reinforcing anchorage of foundations?

ok lang pile driving.. though its gonna be a lot expensive.. especially structures with wide bases (ex. gaisano).. ok lang cya kung imu structure is slim (referring to height to width ratio)

Creation of digital map for Butuan City pushed
by Eldie David

BUTUAN CITY, Sept. 20 (PIA) -- The City Government of Butuan is set to enter into an agreement with the Caraga State University (CSU) for the creation of a digital map of Butuan City simultaneous to the updating of the city's Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) and the Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP).

This was the content of the resolution approved recently by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, which authorizes City Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante to enter into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with CSU. The MOA pertains to the technical assistance on geo-referencing-orthorectification of the Butuan City map and on the operation of the survey equipment like the total station (TS), among others.

The CSU has committed to join efforts with the city government in conducting ground survey, evaluation, and validation. The results will be reflected in a paper map utilizing updated technology surveying instruments and electronic programs such as the TS, GPS survey grade and ESRI's ARC geographical information system.

The satellite imagery of the topography of the City of Butuan, including its corresponding data and documentations, remained raw and unprocessed since its acquisition in 2005. It is stored in 32 compact discs that the CSU will be given the right to collate, process or assemble. (Butuan City V-Mayor’s Office/PIA-Caraga)

Clean committees intensify campaign on ‘Clean Ground, Zero Waste’ Program
by Jennifer P. Gaitano

BUTUAN CITY, Sept. 22 (PIA) -- Committee members of the 'Clean Ground, Zero Waste' program led by Butuan City government convened yesterday to discuss plans on full implementation of said program. This includes the 'No Segration, No Collection' policy in all the barangays of Butuan, and Awarding of 'Clean Seals' in the different sectors involving households, schools, establishments, and others.

Butuan City Vice Mayor Atty. Lawrence Fortun stressed during the meeting that government officials and employees should serve as good example to the general public.

"If the public sees that the government is not compliant with the law, the public will not be persuaded to do the right thing," Fortun said.

Also, Ms. Ruth Jugao, City Economic Enterprise and Development Office (CEEDO) Manager and overall coordinator of the program said that there is money in garbage. She also emphasized that the general public can earn money by way of segregating the garbage.

“In Butuan, various groups, organizations producing different handicrafts out from the solid wastes are buying cellophanes, bottles, recycled papers, and empty cans. With this, the public does not only help clean the environment but also earn additional income. Wastes can also be converted to organic fertilizers,” Jugao said.

Ms. Gemma Reserva, Butuan City General Services Officer is also optimistic that the 'Clean Ground, Zero Waste' Program will be sustained once the cleaning activity will become a routine and be practiced by Butuanons.

“With this program, the city govt is working together with the public to achieve a 'Clean Ground, Zero Waste' city,” Reserva stressed.

US investors eye Butuan project

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines — Investors from the United States visited this city last Tuesday looking for a possible site for the construction of a Solid Waste (SW) Bio-Reactor Project (BRP).

The group of Environmend Systems, along with their Philippine counterpart, paid a courtesy call to the city officials led by Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr. at the City Mayor’s Office and expressed willingness to establish a $5-million SW-BRP project in this region’s frontier and capital city.

“The purpose of their visit to our city was to personally see the proposed plant site, the actual condition of the present dumping site, and to talk to us about the project,” said Amante.

He lauded the environment-friendly project which he said will add employment opportunities to villagers.

“We will submit our official proposal once our American partners are convinced on the feasibility of the project,” said Felino M. Cortez, the local counterpart of the Environmend Systems Group.

The American investors personally visited Barangay Sumilihon and other possible places where the SW-BRP plant may be constructed

Construction begins on Butuan gateway
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDOSeptember 23, 2011, 5:39pm

http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/335385/construction-begins-butuan-gateway

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines — A multi-million road construction to build a gateway to the capital city of Butuan in Northeastern Mindanao (Caraga region) is now in full swing.

The P71 million “Bancasi Airport section: NRJ Antongalon Section road construction project” of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will establish an entry point going to the five provinces and six cities in the Caraga region.

At the center of the rotunda will rise a P50-million “Balangahai” Shrine and Chinese monument.

According to Region XIII DPWH Regional Director Danilo E. Versola, the target completion of the Bancasi Airport Section project is on August 7, 2012

The scope of works of the project includes the construction and concreting of rotunda-3 lanes with paved shoulder, pavement markings, sidewalk and center island, earthworks, sub-base and surface course drainage and slope protection, said Versola.

This project is one of the 15 projects being implemented by the DPWH regional office in 2011 with a total appropriation of P1.4 billion.

The project is complemented by the proposed Butuan-China Friendship Park-cum-museum to be constructed inside the rotunda, said Versola.

When completed, the road will give easy access to Bancasi airport in the north, a by-pass road on the south, Butuan to Surigao-Davao road on the east and Butuan to Cagayan de Oro City-Iligan City road on the west, he said.

“This is really a vital project in the region’s capital city,” he said.

“Our part is to construct/concrete the elliptical road to complete the connectivity of the by-pass road to the airport and Cagayan-Iligan without passing through the city proper. Part of the project will also continue the by-pass road towards Lemon-Antongalon with the construction/concreting of 394.0 m. construction of Butuan City-By Pass Road.”

PAL reduces flights; measures up
September 24, 2011, 6:37pm

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Airlines (PAL) is reducing the number of selected domestic and international flights for a limited period as the flag carrier prepares for the transfer of its catering, ground handling and call center reservations units to third party service providers on October 1, 2011.

In a statement, PAL disclosed that the number of domestic flights would be temporarily reduced by about 30 percent while international flights would be cut provisionally by 12 percent ahead of its long-awaited spin off/outsourcing program.

PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said domestic routes with reduced flight frequencies on certain days involve 14 stations, namely: Cebu, Davao, Bacolod, Iloilo, Butuan, Cotabato, Cagayan de Oro, Dipolog, Kalibo, Laoag, Legazpi, Tacloban, Tagbilaran and Zamboanga.

On the other hand, the 11 international points to be affected by the flight frequency reduction are Hong Kong, Bangkok, New Delhi, Macau, Singapore, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Guam, Sydney, Melbourne and Incheon (from Cebu). All other PAL flights remain as scheduled.

Apart from informing affected passengers, PAL has posted a complete and updated list of PAL flights at www.philippineairlines.com. For other inquiries passengers may also call PAL reservations at 858-8888 or their favorite travel agent.

Villaluna assured the public that only select PAL flights would be suspended for a few days, and would resume on varying dates in October and November as operations normalize after the spin off/outsourcing. She said all other PAL flights remain operational albeit on other available schedules. PAL may also merge some flights using bigger aircraft.

She stressed that the flight suspension on selected routes seeks to prevent sudden, unplanned cancellations and avoid passenger inconvenience. She said it would be easier for the flag carrier and its service providers to handle reduced number of flights as they adjust and transfer the functions of its three non-core units.

Villaluna said Malacañang, the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Transportation and Communication, Manila International Airport Authority, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and Philippine National Police have been informed of the airline’s temporary flight reduction and other contingency measures.

Part of the project will also continue the by-pass road towards Lemon-Antongalon with the construction/concreting of 394.0 m. construction of Butuan City-By Pass Road.”

wala man nakabutang about being "4th most important". let's just say nga IMPORTANT kay basin naa na pod kaspa mo-ulbo ani, hehehe. if you could provide the source, much better para ma-justify gyud.:)

Butuan Branch Museum

Brief History

The museum is located in Butuan City, the provincial capital of Agusan del Norte. It was established after the accidental discovery of archaeological materials by the City Engineering Office of Butuan City in 1974 while draining the water confined inside a man-made river system. Succeeding excavations conducted by the National Museum, yielded tremendous archaeological finds of collectorsEvalue. The most significant find were the prehistoric Balanghai or Butuan boats that date from 4th to 13th centuries A.D., just five kilometers from the city proper. The National Museum conducted a scientific research, sending its archaeologists and researchers at Ambangan, Libertad.

The establishment of the museum was facilitated through the support of the Butuan Museum Foundation, Inc., which was organized to assist the National Museum safeguard and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Then President Ferdinand E. Marcos authorized the release of four units of Marcos-type school buildings while the city government donated a two-hectare lot, to realize the construction of the building. After 19 months, the formal inauguration finally took place on August 30, 1978.

Collections

Ethnographic materials from the Higaonon, Tiruray, Mamanua and Bukidnon ethnolinguistic groups: musical instruments, agricultural tools, baskets, textiles, and personal adornments. Coffins that contain 14th E5th century materials of pottery shards and human skulls. Other excavated materials: whetstones, mortar, adze and tablet; wooden paddles; ceramic wares Body ornaments and implements made of gold, silver, lead, copper and bronze.

Highlights of the Exhibit

Pakhal na habol (right) is a traditional hand woven abaca used by the Higaonon as a sleeping blanket. It has vertical stripes of alternating color combination of dark brown and beige. The brown color is dye while beige is the natural color of abaca.

Ivory Seal (replica) circa 10th century A.D. is carved from animal tusk. The design was written in ancient Javanese script and was translated by a paleographer as But-wan. It was used to identify the place of origin of goods or communications.

The Golden Tara of Agusan (replica) is the image identified to be of Indian origin. The specimen was recovered from the left bank of Wawa River, after a storm and flood in 1917. This discovery corroborates the laksoyearly Indo-Philippine Contact. The Agusan Image, with an Indian imprint, is a Buddhist image of the Sailendra period of Sri-Vijaya history (900-950 A.D.). The sculpture belongs to the Indo-Buddhist-Javanese art of this period. The original 21-carat gold figurine is presently kept at the gem room of the Chicago Field Museum of Natural History in U.S.A.

Laksoy is a popular local wine that is extracted from the sap of the nipa palm and is stored in a pottery vessel (banga) for at least two days to ferment. Longer fermentation will turn the wine into vinegar.

As far as i know that dormitel is their accomodations. Is in it nice? Hehehe. Take note! murag tagaan ug barko ang sjit from china mismo hehehe lets wait and see. Gitagaan jud ug pag tagad ni madam lety ang sjit. I knw nga mas the best pa ang design nga ma come up compared to nasipit campus. Pero ang design ata sa astrodome murag same lang ata. Hmmmm abangan yan. :D

for me this is just the beginning...hopefully our academic institutions such as SJIT and our city in general will provide the best accommodations they can give so that more will be enticed to come in next years....more foreign students mean more economic activities and income for our city^^

I think it will be 2x bigger than that in Bayugan. It should be different, dapat parang forest na maraming trees at flowers like paradise then may pathway going to the center, at the center is the Chinese monument and balangay shrine.

I see in the future na magiging little Singapore ang Bancasi.

Guys, I heard GILLAMACS is closed na daw. I don't know yet if this will be the final site na of that 3 Storey HOTEL I told you about but looks like nag start na ang clearing going towards the corner side. I noticed that some of those vulcanizing shops are now gone.

I'll try to get in touch with my source & squeeze some infos from him.
