That's what my brother also told me. Most of the passengers would prefer to take the early flight from Butuan to Cebu, but on their return flight back home, they take the afternoon flight. Yan din ang magiging schedule ng brother ko actually, hirap gumising daw ng maaga esp. from Cebu ka dahil sa shopping & nightlife :lol:

(RMN-Butuan) SUSPENDIDO na ang klase ng mga mag-aaral sa elementarya sa Butuan City.

Alas-7 ngayong umaga nagpalabas ng advisory ang Butuan City School Division na suspendido na ang klase pero tanging sa mga elementary school lamang matapos isinailalim sa Signal 1 dahil sa Bagyong Ramon ang Agusan del Norte at Surigao del Sur at Surigao del Norte.

Ayon kay Mr. Israel Rivetche Spokesperson ng Butuan City School Division ng Butuan na kung sakaling mailagay na sa Signal Number 2 sa Bagyong Ramon ang Butuan posibleng ikansela na ang klase sa mga mag-aaral sa sekondarya.

Samtala, nilinaw naman ni Mr. Carlos Itim Admin Officer ng DepEd Agusan del Norte na depende na sa school principal kung isuspende nito ang klase sa kani-kanilang paaralan.

Napag-alaman na mayroong 284 Public Elementary School at 48 public high school ang lalawigan ng Agusan del Norte na nalagay ngayon sa Signal Number 1.

Agencies monitor areas prone to flashfloods, landslides due to Tropical Depression “Ramon”

BUTUAN CITY, Oct. 11 (PIA) -- The Agusan del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) with the City DRRMC members continues to monitor areas which are prone to possible flashfloods and landslides due to the present tropical depression "RAMON" that will hit Caraga region.

According to Ms. Ana Semacio, Focal Person for Disaster Risk Reduction of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga, they have a standby of 2000 family packs to augment LGUs who will be asking for assistance. A P500,000.00 standby fund is also ready for replenishment when the 2000 family packs will be released.

The Cebu Pacific Airlines in Butuan City bared that their 1st flight scheduled at 9:30am today, Oct. 11 from Butuan to Manila is cancelled due to bad weather while flight scheduled at 2:00 p.m. from Butuan to Manila as well as 2:30 p.m. flight from Butuan to Cebu City were cancelled due to bad weather.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Caraga Information Officer Connie Calo also bared that their Disaster Risk Reduction Teams were already deployed to areas which are prone to floods and landslides. Thus, monitoring in the provinces by the teams is on-going. Equipment like backhoe, dump trucks, and others are also ready.

The Butuan City Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office (CDRRMO) reported that as of 8:00 a.m., the water level in Agusan River is 1.0 meter. Thus, it is still on its normal water level. CDRRMO is continuously monitoring the status of water level in Agusan River from time to time. At 10:00 a.m., the water level in Agusan River reached to 1.3 meters.

Also, SPO3 George Galdiano of Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) bared that as of 9:00 a.m., their office has not yet received any report from their lower units any untoward incidents related to Tropical Depression "Ramon". Policemen are continuously monitoring the areas which are prone to floods and landslides.

Mr. Ted Cairo, Administrator of the Philippine Red Cross Agusan del Norte-Butuan City Chapter bared that as of press time, their office has not yet received any report from the different barangays asking for any assistance. Red Cross 143 Volunteers in the barangays composed of 1 leader and 43 members are also intact and ready to respond in their respective barangays anytime.

Department of Health (DOH) Caraga also bared that at 8:00 a.m., Signal No. 1 Advisory or 'Code White Alert' for Health Emergency to its field offices and retained hospitals was raised due to the Tropical Depression "Ramon". With the 'Code White' Alert, DOH sees to it that medicines needed are ready to dispatch to the affected areas. Field Response Teams are also intact & ready to respond anytime while the DOH's OPCEN has been activated.

Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Caraga Regional Director Blanche Gobenciong pointed out that the RDRRMC is now ready for the coming of tropical depression "Ramon". She said as of press time, no report of any floodings, landslides, and the like have been made by the local DRRMCs in respective LGUs in the entire region.

Meanwhile, Prof. Israel Reveche, spokesperson of the Department of Education (DepEd) Butuan City Division said that classes in the elementary level is suspended as storm signal no. 1 is declared in Agusan del Norte and Butuan City. identified the fatality as Daryl
Gales, 20, who was involved in

Manobo community launches sago palm flour enterprise

BUTUAN CITY, Oct. 13 (PIA) -- The Manobo community of Agusan del Sur will launch the Manobo Community Sago Palm Flour Enterprise in Barangay Sampaguita, Veruela on October 18. This is a clear sign that the continuing efforts of multisectoral groups here to empower the indigenous peoples (IPs)is bearing fruits.

It also shows that this particular IP is now sustainably taking the lead in the development and protection of their ancestral domains, by developing an enterprise friendly to the environment.

According to Veruela municipal mayor Salimar T. Mondejar, the launching marks the start of commercial production of palm sago flour by the Manobo people constituting the Veruela/Sta. Josefa Ancestral Domain Management Organization (VESTA ADMO).

The sago palm flour enterprise was realized through their business arm, the Kayumbyahan Sagu Manobo Corporation (KASAMACOR).

The sago flour is taken out of the natural and organic raw materials found in their ancestral territory.

The enterprise is also part of the continuing effort of the Manobo people to strengthen their individual and collective capacity for income and employment generation in the context of the sustainable development and protection of their ancestral domain, Mayor Mondejar added.

The Manobo community under the Caraga Indigenous Peoples Development Programme (IPDP-Caraga) of the International Labour Organization (ILO) developed the Sago Palm Flour Production Enterprise with support from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). It is being implemented with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and the municipal government of Veruela, Agusan del Sur.

Also, other stakeholders, including the provincial government of Agusan del Sur and the concerned national government agencies, non-government organizations, and the private sector are likewise providing support to the project through an existing multi-sectoral convergence framework for the development and protection of ancestral domains. BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd)-Butuan City Division has lifted the suspension of classes due to typhoon “Ramon,” without any untoward incident in Butuan City and Surigao City.

DepEd official Israel Reveche said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration has removed Butuan City and Surigao City in the list of those affected with storm signals.

“It is already safe to send the children to their respective schools,” he said. Classes in the pre-school and elementary levels were suspended Tuesday due to bad weather brought by tropical depression “Ramon.” (Mike Crismundo)

The 2011 Youth Congress will be under the Provincial Adolescent and Youth Health Development Program of the Provincial Health Office of the provincial government of Agusan del Norte.

Construction of BANGKO SENTRAL NG PILIPINAS Butuan Branch building will start before the year ends, that's according to BSP President who made the announcement himself during the Business conference held here in our city last July? or early Aug? There's a video coverage of this interview made by TV Patrol Caraga posted by jsl in the previous Thread.

DILG encourages barangays to create waste management committees

BUTUAN CITY, October 14 (PIA) -- City director Romeo Solis of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is encouraging all barangays in this city to create a Barangay Ecological Solid Waste Management (BESWM) Committee, which is in line with Section 56, Implementing Rules and Regulation of Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.

Also, the said committee is in line with the “Clean Ground, Zero Waste” Program of Butuan City Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante Jr. which will be implemented in 86 barangays of this city.

Meanwhile, the BESWM committee will be comprised of barangay captains, barangay kagawads, SK chairman, school principals, General Parent-Teacher Association (GPTA) presidents, representatives from religious sectors, non-government organizations (NGOs), and junkshop owners.

Members of the said committee are delegated to make comprehensive plans, briefs, and implement waste segregation. They are also tasked to prepare their constituents in implementing the “No Segregation, No Collection Policy” which will be launched on November 11, 2011.

On October 3 & 5, members of BESWM and community volunteers undertook trainings to prepare in the launching of Massive Education Campaign that will be enforced in the entire city. Part of the campaign is to segregate the biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes. (MRA with reports from Butuan City PIO/PIA-Caraga)

I am asking because I heard Ramon Dy, the owner of RED PALM SUITES is interested daw sa isang area diha nga property (I am not sure which side of the property, kung kadtu bang side tapad Bachelor Garage or beside Bormaheco kadtung area where the soil testing was done) My source told me, portion ra man daw ang rentahan sa Pilipinas Shell, is this true?

Ramon Dy has a corner lot beside Palmera Promenade, but according to my inside source it's not enough daw for the size of his planned RED PALM HOTEL & CONVENTION CENTER.

guys. I just learned from my source that the design of the Rizal Park redevelopment is now out.

heres more....there will be an urban facelift at select sites of the downtown area as presented by the city architects office to the mayor....these are improvement of the Dike side and parking spaces along G Flores.....the construction of sidewalk with decor lamps at that soon to be demolished wooden structure in between MJ Santos and Prince Hotel (for a new road link between R. Calo and Montilla.....a riverine park near South Montilla (near COA)...construction of public CRs (nice design btw ^^) on Montilla Blvd's overpass among others ( wala ko kaapas sa uban ) ^^

Aside from vitamin A supplementation, CHO is going to deworm 12-71 month-old children.

These free health benefits are in line with the Garantisadong Pambata Program spearheaded by the Barangay Health Workers and the CHO that is conducted annually in the month of October.

According to Rex Ybañez, national vice president for external affairs, the objectives of the said activity are to generate young people responses on democracy and freedom; inculcate sustainability on democracy beliefs and commissions; and enhance youth skills through competition outlets.

“The 1st Northern Mindanao Democracy Contest Conference is an event to celebrate the World Youth Day for Democracy on the 18th of October. The participants are public and private secondary students from the Student Publication of Northern Mindanao,” Ybañez said.

Along with the Essay and Feature writing Contests, the following will also be conducted: On-the-Spot Poster Making; On-the-Spot Cartooning; and Story Telling.

Also, the judges of said contests are professionals who have expertise on these fields. Criteria of judging will be revealed on the actual date, Oct. 18.

Ybañez appealed to the youths, as the National Vice President for External Affairs of the United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines and the CEO of Caraga Youth Leaders' Network Inc. to actively participate in this kind of activity to enhance their skills and ability, and make life worth-living by doing things which will benefit the community.

BUTUAN CITY, October 15 (PIA) -- A Training on Microinsurance Advocacy (TOMA) with the theme “Magpaseguro para Protektado: Advocacy Seminar on Microinsurance”, was conducted to educate the public about insurance at Almont Hotel’s Inland Resort, in this city on October 11 to 13.

The said activity was spearheaded by the Department of Finance- National Credit Council together with the German International Cooperation – Microinsurance Innovations Program for Social Security (GIZ-MIPSS) and the Asian Development Bank-Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction.

For the culmination of TOMA, a press conference on the Financial Literacy Roadshow on Microfinance Advocacy was conducted yesterday to enhance public awareness and education campaign on the importance of microinsurance and focused on issues such as the microinsurance policies and regulations, appropriate risk protection and rights and benefits of clients.

Insurance Commissioner Emmanuel F. Dooc said microinsurance is integral to the overall poverty alleviation strategy of the Filipino government. He said that microinsurance has the potential to buffer Caraga from sinking further into poverty by protecting its residents from sudden fincancial burdens of accidents, illness, deaths, or any catastrophe.

Dooc added that the Financial Literacy is a pervasive way of informing the people under low-income sector about microinsurance for it is the key to supplement the livelihood of our brothers.

Microinsurance product is very accessible for the poor because the amount of premium or contribution per microinsurance policy can range from less that P1 up to P20 per day. This means that the premium on a microinsurance product can be as low as P30 per month. (MRA/PIA-Caraga)

DENR, EMB readies Environmental Awareness Month celeb

BUTUAN CITY, Oct. 15 (PIA) -– Pursuant to Republic Act No. 9512, known as the Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Environmental Education Committee is hereby reconstituted to ensure a continuing integration and implementation of environmental awareness and education programs in all levels of school curricula and capacity building programs.

During the DENR Environmental Committee Meeting held recently at the DENR-Caraga Regional Conference Room, Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Caraga Regional Dir. Ester Olavides tackled the proposed activities in support to the National Greening Program of the government and the ‘Adopt an Estero/River/Creek’ Program.

Olavides said that pursuant to the policy set forth in R.A. 9512, the month of November of every year shall be known as the “Environmental Awareness Month” throughout the country.

With the upcoming celebration of the Environmental Awareness Month, the committee aimed to promote environmental awareness to the community by coordinating with other government agencies and partner stakeholders, and initiating activities that will unite the public and work as one in the goal to maintain the cleanliness of the environment.

“The ‘Adopt Estero’ Program will be launched on November 18, 2011 at the Masao River, Butuan City wherein government agencies, partner stakeholders and community will be cleaning and planting in the area,” Olavides said.

After the said program will be formally launched, the committee is also committed to monitor and assess the impact of the activity and will replicate it to other areas of the city and region in general.

Aside from the ‘Adopt Estero’ Program, DENR and EMB will continuously lead the provision of planting materials/seedlings to partner stakeholders who are planning to conduct massive tree planting in the coming months.(JPG/PIA-Caraga)

BUTUAN CITY, October 16 (PIA) – “Microinsurance can help alleviate poverty rate in the Philippines yet people are still reluctant to avail insurance services that is why we are trying to gain the trust and confidence through educating them by conducting Financial Campaign.”

This was disclosed by Insurance Commissioner Emmanuel F. Dooc during the press conference on the Financial Literacy Roadshow on Microfinance Advocacy by the Department of Finance- National Credit Council (DOF-NCC) in partnership with the German International Cooperation – Microinsurance Innovations Program for Social Security (GIZ-MIPSS) and the Asian Development Bank-Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction which was conducted yesterday, October 14, 2011 at Almont Hotel’s Inland Resort, this city.

Dooc said it is understandable as to why the people are doubtful on insurance companies because for the past years, there were insurance and pre-need companies went bankrupt which in turn failed to provide their responsibilities to their clients.

Dooc added that the government and insurance sectors are trying hard to correct and change the negative impressions of the citizens especially the low-income sector about availing insurance services.

“Only duly licensed and with strong financial capitalization are allowed to engage in insurance business”, said Dooc.

Dooc further added that as of now, there are already 21 pre-need companies and 33 licensed insurance companies which passed the requirements set by the Insurance Commission. (MRA/PIA-Caraga)

BUTUAN CITY, Okt. 16 (PIA) -- Usa ka dako nga pawikan ang midagsa sa baybayon sa Puok 1. Brgy. Masao syudad sa Butuan niadtong Oktubre 12, 2011, pasado alas 7:00 sa buntag.

Gikumpirma sa usa ka opisyal sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Caraga nga ang maong pawikan, gibana bana nga duna kini gibug-aton nga 200 kilograms, dunay gitas-on nga 57 centimeters ug kalapdon nga 39 centimeters.

Matud pa ning miaging katuigan duna usay nakaplagan nga pawikan sa maong barangay, apan ang nakita sa niaging adlaw mao ang pinakadako.

Gidugang pa nga physically fit ang maong pawikan, wala kini samad ug walay tag, nga nagpamatuod nga ang iyang pagdagsa, mao ang pinaka-unang higayon kondiin siya nakaplagan, hinungdan nga gibutangan kini ug tag sa mga sakop sa DENR-Caraga.

Cebuano News: Higanteng pawikan nga nagtimbang ug 200 kilos, nakit-an sa Brgy. Masao

BUTUAN CITY, Okt. 16 (PIA) -- Usa ka dako nga pawikan ang midagsa sa baybayon sa Puok 1. Brgy. Masao syudad sa Butuan niadtong Oktubre 12, 2011, pasado alas 7:00 sa buntag.

Gikumpirma sa usa ka opisyal sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Caraga nga ang maong pawikan, gibana bana nga duna kini gibug-aton nga 200 kilograms, dunay gitas-on nga 57 centimeters ug kalapdon nga 39 centimeters.

Matud pa ning miaging katuigan duna usay nakaplagan nga pawikan sa maong barangay, apan ang nakita sa niaging adlaw mao ang pinakadako.

Gidugang pa nga physically fit ang maong pawikan, wala kini samad ug walay tag, nga nagpamatuod nga ang iyang pagdagsa, mao ang pinaka-unang higayon kondiin siya nakaplagan, hinungdan nga gibutangan kini ug tag sa mga sakop sa DENR-Caraga.

NCIP Caraga spearheads Indigenous Peoples Conference

BUTUAN CITY, Oct.14 (PIA)-- With the theme, “Tribuhanong Katilingban Hagit sa Kasamtangang Panahon sa Karon ug Umaabot,” the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP)- Caraga region will spearhead the Indigenous Peoples Conference on October 18-19 in one of the convention center here.

According to NCIP Caraga acting regional director Dominador M. Gomez, the activity will support the three-month campaign for Indigenous Peoples Rights and Empowerment in partnership with the Congress, Civil Society Organizations, the United Nations, International Labor Organization (ILO), Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the NCIP as a national government agency.

Also, the activity will be participated by the different tribes of indigenous peoples in the region and is in line with the celebration of the 14th Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) anniversary in accordance with the Presidential Proclamation No. 1124 designating October 29 to November 4 of every year as Indigenous Peoples’ Week.
