Pres. Arroyo visits Butuan
by Robert E. Roperos
PIA News March 28

Butuan City (March 28) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo visited the city yesterday and inspected the stockpiles of rice at the warehouse of the National Food Authority (NFA).

The President arrived around 1:45 p.m. in Bancasi Airport here after attending the commencement exercises of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) in Cavite City.

She was met by local officials of this city and the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur. Among them include Butuan City Mayor Democrito Plaza II, Agusan del Norte 1st District Representative Jose Aquino II, Agusan del Norte 2nd District Representative Edelmiro Amante, Agusan del Norte Governor Erlpe John Amante, Congressmen Francisco Matugas and Guillermo Romarate, Jr. of the 1st and 2nd districts of Surigao del Norte.

Upon her arrival from the airport, the President motored to Barangay Libertad, just two kilometers away from the Bancasi Airport, where the NFA warehouse is located. She was met by Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Arthur Yap, NFA Administrator Jessup Navarro and NFA Caraga OIC-Regional Director Gil Pepito Paqueo.

The President inspected the warehouse and observed the process initiated by NFA-Butuan in hauling the sacks of rice to and from the warehouse. She also witnessed the packing of one kilogram rice for the "Food-for-School" program and the "Tindahan Natin" outlets.

After the inspection, President Arroyo awarded certificates to operate the Tindahan Natin to ten NFA-accredited operators, composed of Magdalena Goder of Brgy. Pinamangculan, Flor Abuyon of Brgy. Los Angeles, Liza Uygioco of Brgy. Baan Riverside, Estrellita Radaza of Brgy. Bunhangin, Jocelyn Camingue of Brgy. Baan Km. 3 Amamaylan, Ma. Ellen Carampatana of Brgy. Bit-os, Leopoldo Labrador of Brgy. Villa Kanangga, Gloria Ampong of Brgy. Sumilihon, Zosimo Laganao of Brgy. Bading, and Jessel Marianito of Brgy. Libertad, all from this city.

With President Arroyo awarding the certificates to Tindahan Natin operators, one of the recipients said, she was thankful that the President managed to visit the city and personally awarded the certificates to them. "Inspite of the President's hectic schedule, she still managed to come here in Butuan to personally handed in our certificates. We are so thankful to her", she said.

From the warehouse, the President proceeded to Almont Inland Resort for a closed-door dialogue with the Bishops in Butuan City, Surigao City, Surigao del Sur, Malaybalay City and Cagayan de Oro City. It was also learned that some members of the cabinet joined the dialogue. (PIA-13)

Cato promotes twin-city packages
March 27

THE Cebu Association of Tour Operators (Cato) will capitalize on promoting the “twin-city” destination package to maximize the potentials of two neighboring provinces in promoting a single tour product.

Alice Queblatin, former Cato president, said this innovative tour product is Cato’s way of intensifying the efforts of the Department of Tourism (DOT) in marketing the country as a tourism destination in Asia.

She added that this effort is also expected to boost the tourism activities of the provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao.

The “twin-city” combination packages include Cebu-Bohol, Dumaguete-Siquijor, Iloilo-Bacolod and Cagayan de Oro-Camiguin.

“We chose the two cities based on proximity and access points, where we can enter in one and exit in the other,” said Queblatin.

“These ‘twin destinations’ must co-exist,” she added.

With the government branding Central Visayas as the “tourism gateway” of the country, Queblatin said Cebu is readily identified as the major entry point in reaching these destinations.

Good mix

“Cebu has all the facilities to be a hub because we have a good mix of hotels and restaurants. We are in the right destination and right position. That’s why we get a huge share of tourists,” she said.

Queblatin said accessibility in the “twin-city” destination package is either through the roll-on, roll off (Ro-ro) routes or by airplane.

Under the Ro-ro system, vehicles can cross bodies of water through a ferry. So vehicle owners can enjoy the comfort of their vehicles in different areas.

Queblatin also noted the need for tourism stakeholders and local government units to improve the seaport and airport terminals in the provinces as well as aggressively push for more accommodation facilities to cater the growing passenger traffic.

Picking up

Butuan, for example, is starting to “pick up” from the development and has begun improving its terminal facilities, she said.

Queblatin also mentioned that since Cato and DOT’s promotion of the “twin-city” destination package, requests for provincial tours among local and foreign tourists have increased significantly.

In a document furnished Sun.Star Cebu, DOT-7 data revealed an 18.7 percent increase in domestic and foreign arrivals or nearing two million visitors vacationing in the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Oriental Negros and Siquijor.

In a separate interview, DOT Undersecretary Phineas Alburo said the double digit growth indicates the “huge contribution of the region in the development of the Philippine tourism industry.”

Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano earlier announced that the DOT is expecting visitor arrivals in the country to increase to 3.5 million tourists by year-end.

Durano said the bulk of DOT’s proposed P1.4 billion-budget this year will go to tourism promotions. (MMM)

WOW! PAL has added an extra day for its early morning MNL-BXU flight ey ^^

and it has also introduced its CeButuan link using its Airbus 320..

NICE..

and I would expect Cebu Pacific will be responding with this PAL move

can we have Butuan-Iloilo link din sana....in time for summer in Boracay...even if 2x a week lang?

Starting May 1, 2008, there will be a daily flight from CATICLAN to BUTUAN via Cebu and vice versa. This means giving access to tourists from Boracay to have a taste of Caraga and vice versa. PAL will be fielding the brand new Q300 aircraft that can carry 50 passengers to this route.

Caticlan - Cebu PR 258 ETD 10:00AM ETA 10:45AM
Cebu - Butuan PR 289 ETD 11:15 ETA 11:50AM

Butuan - Cebu PR 290 ETD 12:20PM ETA 12:55PM
Cebu - Caticlan PR 259 ETD 1:25PM ETA 2:10PM

In 1 hour and 30 minutes you will arrive in CATICLAN from BUTUAN and vice versa. Maybe connecting passengers will not disembark anymore in Cebu and will only wait for 30 minutes before the plane takes off again.

What Do You Do With a Squid the Size of Your Arm?

One of the most arresting sights at Butuan City's Seafood Market is the rows of giant squid, slippery bodies big as a small cat, tentacles thick as thumbs, and eyes that are eerily human-like. As I perused the market's offerings thoughts like 'Mmmm, red snapper, chuck it on the grill' and, 'Ooooh, octopus, Italian tomato stew with spinach,' danced through my head.

Who doesn't love grilled squid? The problem, if you're preparing this at home, is that there's such a fine line between 'done' and 'rubber' that the risk of turning squid into something with a texture akin to a Superball is exceedingly high. With these babies, sheer volume lifts the getting-it-just-right pressure.

After severing (but not discarding) head and tentacles our host stuffed the skin-on bodies with a mixture of chopped onions and tomatoes and laid it all over low coals. We had a long wait for lunch but the wonderfully tender squid rings sporting a good bit of smoky char on the outside were well worth it. Bigger squid means, of course, more tentacles and Dave, an afficianado, especially appreciated the bounty.

Giant squid heads are a bit of a delicacy and our host urged us to give the eye a try. I passed.

By May 17, Cebu Pacific will only be able to equal to number of weekly flights of PAL for the Manila-Butuan route. For the Cebu-Butuan route PAL flies daily while CEB flies 3x a week only. Hence it is still PAL which operates the most flights to Butuan. But what is true is this, starting May 17, CEB will provide the most number of seats for both Manila-Butuan-Manila and Cebu-Butuan-Cebu routes which will be 3,706 seats/week and 900 seats/week respectively against PAL's 2948 seats/week and 700 seats a week respectively.

City Government Launches ART Demo Project

http://www.butuan.gov.ph/NewsPage/0108/_images/CGLARTDP_02.jpg

Opening the portals to boundless opportunities for Butuanons and partners, the Agusan River Tourism Demonstration (ART Demo) Project was launched on November 27, 2007.The ART Demo project is a multi-sectoral convergent undertaking to propel Butuan’s full-scale, livelihood-based tourism industry. Showing full support to the project were hundreds of representatives from the academe, line agencies, city government offices, artist group, private entrepreneurs and barangay leaders.

The ART Demo has four windows of economic productivity-development of trademark indigenous products from each barangay for livelihood; promotion of historical sites; influencing Butuan’s orderly urbanization, and spurring private sector participation for tourism.

Threading through these four portals is the Agusan River Cruise and livelihood nooks as the crowning demonstration of the promise that is Butuan’s tourism destiny. In the middle part of 2008, the rivercruise is targeted to commence with a developed Banza Historical Village, stalls beside the Diosdado Macapagal Bridge and the transformation of the floodwalls into murals depicting Butuan’s history.

Butuan is very well connected in all modes of transport..

24 hour round the clock bus link to CDO and Davao..

daily flight links with Cebu...also with regular shipping links too ( and with Bohol and Leyte)

daily flight and shipping links with Manila..

easy connecting flights to Bacolod and Iloilo..

and hopefully Gensan and Zambo cities too..

I can say that the growth of this regional city can also be contributed as to how efficient it is connected or linked to other regional growth centers as well...^^

Butuan City to celebrate 487th Anniversary of First Mass in Philippine soil

by Ben Serrano - March 30, 2008

BUTUAN CITY- With more intensified scientific evidence to prove first-ever Catholic Easter Mass in Philippine soil did happened here in Butuan City 487 years ago and not somewhere else, Butuan historians, other private sectors in cooperation with the Butuan City Government will celebrate tomorrow (March 31) its 487th anniversary at Buod Promintory, Barangay Pinamangkulan, Butuan City.

A giant cross was built in the area to commemorate the first Easter Mass officiated by Fr. Pedro Valderrama, chaplain of the Spanish expedition team headed by Portugese navigator Ferdinand Magellan on March 31, 1521.

On August this year, the National Historical Institute (NHI) is set to hear the reopening of the case lodged by Butuan City Government and some private sector on its claim as the real venue of the Roman Catholic’s First Easter Mass in Philippine soil.

A land mark commemorating RP’s First Mass was built in the 70’s at Limasawa, Leyte during the Marcos administration. The late strongman’s wife, former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos hails from Leyte.

The late strongman himself upon prodding of the First Lady ordered the construction of the First Mass landmark in Limasawa, Leyte.

In the 17th up to the 19th century, foreign historians particularly from Europe considered Mazaua, an islet here in Butuan City that existed sometime in the 15th to 16th century which is now Barangay Pinamangkulan, says Greg Hontiveros, President of the Butuan Historical and Cultural Foundation, Inc. (BHCFI).

A local historian, Hontiveros is author of two books, the first one, “Butuan in Thousand Years” which was published in 2004 and his second which is set for launching tomorrow titled, “ A Fire on the Island”, a breakthrough in the study on long-running First Mass controversy and inquiry.

In Hontiveros’ second book, he explained that the First Mass in the Philippines find its significance in two ways, one, as the only recorded history in the expansion of Christianity in the Far East in our time and two, in the symbolism that parallels the beginnings of Christianity in key areas of Europe.

Hontiveros further adds that with explosive growth of Christianity (all sects) in Asia and Africa of which the conversion process is fastest in South Korea, China and Eastern Indonesia said phenomena should have spark a scholarly interest and popular consciousness on the early evangelical beginnings of the faith.

In Martin K. Noone’s book “The Island Saw It: The Discovery and Conquest of the Philippines 1521-1581” said that the primordial significance of the first mass in the only Christian nation in Asia should have been an “event as momentous in the history of Filipino People as St. Augustine’s landing in Kent to the British, or Patrick’s lighting of the Easter Fire at Slane to the Irish, or Boniface’s meeting with the pagan Frisian priests to the Germanic peoples”.

Line up of activities in tomorrow’s 487th Anniversary of the First Easter Mass on Philippine soil will be a mass celebrated by Fr. Joesilo Amalia also a local historian and curator of the Diocese of Butuan Museum.

Local ensemble group, Artists Quarter will do a production number re-enacting the travails of the first Easter Mass, a Book Launching and simple program of which speeches of Butuan City Mayor Democrito Plaza, II, Vice Mayor Claudio Sanchez, Rep, Jose “Joboy” Aquino, II and former Mayor Leonides Theresa B. Plaza, chairperson of the Butuan City Tourism Council that reiterates local government’s support in the continuing quest for the venue of the First Catholic Mass in the Philippines

Cabadbaran City wows guests at a booth exhibit

http://www.agusandelnorte.gov.ph/images/agnor/wowcaraga.jpg
The products of the City of Cabadbaran wowed guests and participants when it joined the booth exhibit last February 19-23, 2008 as one of the highlights of Caraga’s 13th year anniversary celebration dubbed as “WOW Araw ng Caraga” at Almont Hotel Inland Resort, Butuan City.

Tourism Secretary Joseph H. Durano who graced the occasion and was also the guest of honor of the Regional Development Council Meeting couldn’t help but be fascinated over the products of Cabadbaran City, the city’s first time to join an exhibit after it became a city.
City Mayor Dale B. Corvera was overwhelmed with the positive response of the tourism secretary especially from a first timer. He vows to showcase more of the best of what Cabadbaran can offer in the next exhibitions to come.

WOW Araw ng Caraga is a yearly event of the Department of Tourism in cooperation with all the cities and provinces of Caraga region. A venue showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage and the tourist destination of each city or province with the main objective of selling its products and entice tourists to visit the region’s destinations.

After thirteen years of being a separate administrative region, Caraga has managed herself to live up to its expectation as it continuous to soar high making herself at par with her surrounding regions.

Activities for this year’s celebration were: Photo Seminar; The Best of Ace Fashion Show; and Food and Beverage Competition, with the theme: “2008: Jumpstarting the New Era of Tourism in Caraga Region”. (JVD)

Filinvest Land almost doubles profit to P1.7 billion (http://www.bworldonline.com/BW040508/content.php?id=043)

Gotianun-led Filinvest Land, Inc. nearly doubled profits last year to P1.7 billion from P872 million in 2006, citing strong rental income from investment properties aside from its real estate development business.

In a bid to sustain growth, Filinvest Land said it would spend P6 billion this year, lining up 36 new projects and phases for launch, with an estimated sales value of P10 billion. In 2007, the listed property developer launched 17 new projects and phases with an inventory value of P6.1 billion.

"Some of these projects will be in new locations beginning with the first residential subdivision in Butuan City as well as more of the inner-city residential mid-rise buildings similar to One Oasis Ortigas. The company is increasing its marketing efforts to reach more of its target market in the overseas Filipino worker-rich areas of Europe, the Middle East and Asia," the company said in a statement.

In 2007, Filinvest increased revenues by about 46% to P5.1 billion, 69% of which came from real estate development. About 7% came from equity in net earnings from Filinvest Alabang, Inc. while 20% came from leasing revenues from Festival Supermall, the PBCom Tower in Makati, and business process outsourcing (BPO) office buildings at the Northgate Cyberzone in Alabang’s Filinvest Corporate City.

The remaining 4% came from interest and other income. Equity in net earnings from Filinvest Alabang included a P280-million net gain from the sale of Filinvest Land shares during a follow-on offering in February 2007.

Socialized and affordable housing, which consist of house and lot packages priced from P300,000 to P1.5 million, accounted for P748 million or 24% of Filinvest Land’s real estate development revenues.

Covering house and lot packages up to P4 million, the middle income segment accounted for 43% or P1.4 billion. High-end projects, farm estates, industrial lots, and entrepreneurial housing contributed P1.1 billion or 33%.

Expecting demand for BPO office space to remain strong, Filinvest Land said two of the four buildings under construction at Northgate Cyberzone, namely iHub1 and iHub2, are scheduled for delivery within the first semester of 2008. Construction of two BPO office buildings at One Oasis Ortigas will likely start this quarter.

Filinvest Land has 60 on-going projects that have generated a sales take-up of P5 billion in 2007, a 35.14% increase from P3.7 billion in 2006.

Last year, the property firm expanded into several new areas including Pampanga, Tarlac and Palawan. It has started offering mid-rise residential buildings in major urban centers such as Pasig and Davao. It has also launched its first "condotel" project, called the Grand Cenia Hotel and Residences in Cebu City.

Firm’s mining operation to resume in Agusan del Norte

Tubay Agusan del Norte - S.R. Metals Inc., a mining company that operates and is engaged in quarrying nickel and cobalt in Tubay has secured a large-scale permit from Mines and Geosciences Bureau.

The Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (MPSA) was approved Monday, March 10, SR Metals Inc. Spokesperson Ryan Culima revealed.

The approved MPSA came after the Environmental Compliance Certificate was issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and signed by Secretary Lito Atienza, Culima said.

The 572.6 hectare mining company is permitted to operate in three barangays of the coastal town of Tubay on a large scale from allowable 0.8 to 1.5 million metric tons a year within twenty-five years. The volume is a huge difference from a two-year small-scale mining permit issued by the provincial government which only allows extraction 50, 000 metric ton per year.

In November last year, a cease-and-desist order was issued by then DENR secretary Angelo Reyes prompting the company to close. More than 1,200 contractual and temporary employees lost their living when SR Metals Inc. quarrying operations was stopped.

Protesters from environmentalist and religious groups with the local church authorities said the quarrying operations violated environmental laws. They said quarrying in the area exposed the local residents to disaster, they said.

The new permit issued to S.R. Metals Inc is a vindication of the company from the allegations of those who are against the quarrying, Culima said.

For a year and seven months the company was able to generate 40 million pesos revenue for the province. Rodge Cultura, ABS-CBN Regional Network Group - Butuan

Caraganons wage war against human trafficking

Butuan City (March 31) — “Stop Human Trafficking!”

This is the message the Caraganons want to convey as the Caraga Regional Inter-Agency Committee against Trafficking in Persons - Violence against Women and Children (IACAT-VAWC) implements the roadshow campaign against human trafficking on April 1, 2008 in Butuan City.

Dubbed as the Filipino Initiative against Trafficking in Persons (FIAT), the roadshow campaign will be participated by at least 1,500 government and non-government organizations, local government officials and employees, barangay officials, people’s organizations, church and women’s groups, students and the media from Butuan City and the five provinces of Caraga Region. The participants will march from Rizal Park to Urios Gym to show their support to the national campaign against human trafficking.

The cities of Butuan, Bislig and Cabadbaran and the provinces of of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands have earlier demonstrated their commitment to organize the local inter-agency committee against trafficking in persons (IACATs) in their respective localities. The local IACATs are tasked to coordinate and monitor the implementation of anti-trafficking programs and activities to prevent human trafficking, protect victims and convict human traffickers in their respective areas.

Caraga is a possible source of victims and a strategic transit area considering the airports, seaports and number of bus terminals in the region. Although the exact number of victims is yet unknown, human rights monitor estimate that several thousands of men, women and children are trafficked in the country each year. They are lured by promises of good jobs or marriage, and some are forced into involuntary servitude. There are also parents who see no alternative for breaking the cycle of poverty and often willingly send their children away.

The passage of the Republic Act 9208 known as the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 laid the ground for a stringent response of stakeholders against trafficking. The law stipulates provisions of aid to victims of trafficking and the organization of Inter-Agency Councils against Trafficking (IACAT) tasked to monitor the implementation of the law. Since the passage of the law, the country has made modest but significant progress in the fight against trafficking. As a result, the US State Department in 2006 Trafficking in Persons report removed the Philippines from the watch list.

While considerable efforts were made in the area of prevention and protection, frontline agencies and anti-trafficking advocates acknowledge that much work has to be done. The need to focus national and local attention and resources to the problem and develop a more integrated, holistic and rights-based response particularly to trafficking hotspots has to be sustained.

Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo right, listens as Department of Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap briefs her on the present supplies of rice during their inspection of a National Food Authority warehouse Thursday, March 27, 2008 in Butuan City in southern Philippines. The government has assured the public of sufficient supplies of rice as they had signed a contract for 1.2 million tons of rice, mostly from Vietnam and Thailand, and an additional 100,000 tons under a loan program from the U.S. Department of Agriculture

Take note that Air Philippines/Philippine Airlines will serve this route on a codeshare status. But with the unpredictability of things posted at the PAL and AirPhil websites, i do not know what really will be the final verdict regarding the Boracay-Butuan route.

I think this will be a PAL route. Most, if not all, flights of air phil out of cebu are taken over by PAL, using Q300 or Q400 planes (except Manila of course).

FSUU Now Accepts International Students
Urian News

The once small school in the silent region of Caraga goes on a scream as it conquers the international arena!

The breaking of the news came today when an order was received from the Bureau of Immigration granting Father Saturnino Urios University the authority to accept foreign students signed by Commissioner Marcelino C. Libanan.

This event marks victory to the once small school as an acknowledgment of what it has reached, a recognition of its will and capability to serve the international arena. This means that Urians can now share their light not only to Butuanons, Caraganons, or Filipinos, but also to people from different countries around the world!

Go, scream to the world that we are truly on the leading edge!

Redefining Concrete Changes

The university made a few modifications. New offices were created, reconstructed and transferred to offer better services.

Being on the leading edge is a never-ending challenge it means the school has to upgrade from time to time to maintain or improve its set standards. Put in other words, the academe has to do constant fixing. Hence, there are improvements not only in the instruction but also with the plant including its equipment and facilities. These things create an ideal university nvironment, a good learning atmosphere.

There were few modifications that the academe made this year; some of the offices are being reconstructed and transferred. Let’s redefine these concrete changes one by one. The very first office the freshmen, transferees and returnees visit in the university is the Scholarship and Admissions Office where they will file their application for admission. The office is now located at the right side of the lobby just upon entering the campus. The office was strategically transferred to facilitate faster and better customer service.

The renovation and placement of air conditioner enhanced the sublime solace of the St. Aloysius Gonzaga Chapel. The new look of the chapel gives a solemn ambience for those who want to pray and spend time with the Lord. The Chapel is open from 9:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon for prayer and meditation.

Development Centers - an office composed of three centers: the Center for Professional Development (CPD), the Center for Local Governance and Integrative Studies (DCLG-IS), and the Center for Enterprise Development (CED). The office has a wide range of responsibilities. It conducts trainings, seminars and reviews and implements projects both for internal and external clients. The office has been moved to the old Scholarships and Admissions Office.

The offices of the President and Vice President for Administration and Student Affairs were also moved. The old office of the President is now the VP’s working place. The new office of the President is now located adjacent to its old office. The new office of Fr. John sets a look of a corporate image. The school’s activities for its adopted communities are channeled through the CES-NSTP Office. This office is now located at the PE Hall, ground floor of the Urios Gym. The Custodial Services office is now located at CB 108.

Bookings for the use of the school’s facilities and equipment and other services are catered in this office.
The SSG-Student Center has changed its skin for a better ambience. It is a good place for students to chill out during their leisure hours.

From a simple rooftop to an elegant training center- the Haggenburg Hall which was named after the 5th president of the university, was built to cater different activities such as reviews, seminars and trainings. The hall is located at the 5th floor of the high school building. The transfers and reconstructions were just few of the visible developments FSUU has went through. In June 2008, Urios will extend its territory in Ambangan where the Basic Education will be placed, the Msgr. Carmelo Morelos Campus. The university will continue to develop and grow, for change is something that is infinite and necessary.

PAL creates new low-fares unit for local routes

By Mary Ann Ll. Reyes
Wednesday, April 16, 2008 [ philstar.com ]

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has created a new, low-fares unit that will operate a fleet of turbo-propeller aircraft to mostly domestic island points under the brand name PAL Express.

The launch of PAL Express is considered a ground-breaking step for PAL, which is creating a sub-brand for the first time in its 67-year history.

PAL president and CEO Jaime Bautista said PAL Express will meet the growing demand of the traveling public for a high-quality carrier offering low fares.

“At the same time, it supports the government’s efforts to promote trade and tourism, particularly to our small islands, thus providing a much-needed lift to the local economy of these communities,” he added.

Industry observers view PAL’s latest move as a bid to compete heads-on with arch rival Cebu Pacific, which is positioned as a low-cost, no frills airline.

The creation of PAL Express is also aimed at expanding PAL’s network and protecting its market share.

According to Bautista, PAL Express will increase PAL’s profits by around P300 million a year, and revenues, by around P1 billion. Around one million passengers are expected to be added by PAL Express when its operation goes full blast next year.

During the fiscal year ending March 31, 2008, PAL carried a total of 7.5 million passengers, both domestic and international. Excluding PAL Express, the number of passengers carried is expected to increase by eight percent this fiscal year.

Meantime, PAL’s revenues reached $1.4 billion during the last fiscal year, compared to $1.2 billion during the previous fiscal year.

Bautista expects revenues to increase this fiscal year, but profits will be down mainly due to high cost of fuel.

PAL will acquire nine turbo-props, consisting of three Bombardier Q300s and six Q400s, to comprise PAL Express’ initial fleet which will be based mainly in Cebu.

Some flights will also operate out of Manila. Turbo props are ideal for short runways like those in Caticlan.

The cost of PAL Express’ initial fleet based on the list price of the nine turbo props is around $130 million. PAL is currently in talks with domestic banks to finance around $100 million of the cost of the new planes. The balance will be internally financed.

The new PAL unit will primarily fly intra-regional routes in Visayas and Mindanao from its Cebu hub, as well as secondary routes to small airports in island provinces that are not able to accommodate PAL’s regular jet aircraft.

“We will leverage on the strength of the PAL brand to make PAL Express the leader in the markets it serves. In turn, PAL benefits from the expansion of its network to areas it does not presently fly to, from where PAL Express aims to draw traffic to feed the main trunk routes,” Bautista said.

But the biggest beneficiary, he stressed, will be traveler, who is now able to tap into PAL’s extensive route network and enjoy seamless connections between erstwhile inaccessible provincial points and 43 destinations – and counting – across the Philippines, Asia, Australia, and North America.

The structure for PAL Express is similar to the setup found in several international airlines, where the “legacy” carrier establishes an operating division intended to serve a market niche distinct from the mainline operation.

The division, however, is still supervised by the parent airline, which also provides logistical and administrative support. Examples of this structure are those in American Airlines’ American Eagle, United Airlines’ United Express, Air Canada’s Jazz, and Lufthansa’s Lufthansa Cityline.

Bautista explained that PAL will continue to operate the trunk routes while the secondary routes will be operated by PAL Express. “There will be no competition between PAL and PAL Express since the latter will be operating mostly new routes,” he emphasized.

He added that PAL Express will also not compete with Air Philippines, the low-cost airline of the Lucio Tan Group. Air Philippines will transfer its Manila-Caticlan operations as well as flights originating from Cebu to PAL Express.

Because of this, Air Philippines will no longer proceed with plans to acquire Bombardier aircraft. This will now be undertaken by PAL Express.

PAL Express is scheduled to take off on May 5, 2008 with eight flights daily between Manila to Caticlan, gateway to Boracay. Fifty-seater Bombardier Q300 aircraft will be deployed on the route.

Services ramp up dramatically on May 19, when the new unit’s Cebu hub operations commences with flights between Cebu and five points in Visayas and Mindanao, namely Caticlan, Bacolod, Tacloban, Butuan and General Santos.

To introduce these new services, PAL Express is offering promotional fares of as low as P88 (excluding taxes and surcharges) for one-way flights between Cebu and Bacolod, Caticlan, Tacloban, Butuan, and General Santos.

Earlier, PAL announced that it would base its soon-to-be-acquired turbo-prop fleet mainly in Cebu, in order to better serve the growing intra-regional market in Visayas and Mindanao.

While some turbo-prop flights will also operate out of Manila, especially in the initial phase, Cebu will be the focal point of turbo-prop operations as PAL re-establishes the city as its main hub in southern Philippines.

PAL operated a bustling Cebu hub for most of its 67-year history, when it was the sole airline mandated to provide air services to far-flung rural communities. As such, turbo-props were an integral part of PAL’s fleet for decades.

When PAL entered receivership in 1999, however, its rehabilitation plan stipulated an all-jet fleet, forcing the airline to dispose of its then turbo-prop type, the Fokker 50, and close its Cebu hub.

With PAL’s successful emergence from rehabilitation late last year, Bautista said resuming turbo-prop operations became a key priority, in keeping with the national carrier’s historic mandate of serving outlying areas.

In this effort, the restored Cebu hub will play a central role, PAL added

FLI earns P1.7 B in 2007, up 96%
James A. Loyola

Filinvest Land Inc. (FLI) reported that it almost doubled its net income last year to P1.7 billion, 95.5 percent higher than the profits posted in 2006 of P871.83 million, while announcing the launch of 36 projects worth over P10 billion this year.

FLI recorded real estate sales of P3.16 billion in 2007, an increase of 16.2 percent from P2.72 billion in 2006 principally due to higher sales of affordable, middle-income and regional lots and housing units in 2007.

Real estate sales in 2006 included a sale of 50 hectares of land amounting to P280.5 million, inclusive of option money received, comprising Phase 2 of Timberland Heights to FAPI, a joint venture organized by FLI and AIIPI. Discounting the effects of this transaction on sales for 2006, real estate would increase by 30 percent.

Major reasons for the better sales performance are intensive marketing activities, availability of affordable financing packages, strong OFW demand, attractive pricing, positive market reception to various house models, and promos and incentives being offered to both buyers and sellers.

Moreover, new projects were launched throughout the country in 2007, said FLI in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange yesterday.

Rental income soared to P1.02 billion in 2007 from P306.11 million in 2006. This is brought about by the inclusion of the full year operations in 2007 of certain investment properties acquired by FLI in September 2006.

The acquisitions are: the Festival Supermall and 60 percent ownership interest in both Filinvest Asia Corporation and Cyberzone Properties Inc., 50 percent owner of PBCom Tower and owner of the buildings in Northgate Cyberzone, respectively.

Other sources of rental income include the readybuilt-factories in Filinvest Technology Park in Calamba, Laguna.

Interest income increased by 31.8 percent to P358.65 million in 2007 from P272.21 million in 2006 due to an increase in the amount of receivables and short-term investments held by FLI.

Equity in net earnings of an associate significantly increased from P63.48 million to P357.40 million due to an increase in the net income of Filinvest Alabang Inc. mainly from the sale of some of its FLI shares during a follow-on offering conducted by FLI.

Going forward, FLI expects to remain focused on its core residential real estate development business which now includes medium rise buildings.

In 2008, FLI intends to launch 36 new projects and additional phases with an estimated sales value of P10.2 billion, 68 percent more than sales value of projects launched in 2007.

Butuan City, Agusan del Sur is now FLI’s newest provincial location. In addition, medium-rise buildings in other innercity locations such as Santolan, Pasig City and Sta. Mesa, Manila will also be launched. Negotiations are on-going for a high-rise building in Makati City.

With regard to FLI’s leasing business, various buildings in Northgate Cyberzone in Alabang are currently being constructed to increase the leasable spaces and leasing revenues of FLI in 2008.

Continuous improvements are also being made in Festival Mall to keep up with market demands.

DFA Regional Office :

DFA Butuan to open May 16

Siargao, Surigao Del Norte (April 17) -- The long wait has been over. People from the Caraga Region and neighboring provinces can now transact passport applications and renewal without going to as far as Cagayan de Oro City.

On May 16, in time with the celebration of the annual fiesta celebration of the city of Butuan, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will now have its branch in the region.

This was revealed by Agusan del Norte 1st District Representative Jose Aquino II during the roundtable discussion with the local and national media called by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo when she visited here yesterday at Pansukian Resort.

The pronouncement was made by Congressman Aquino when one of the local media present during the discussion presented to President Arroyo the importance of the existence of the said office in the region.

According to the President, she has already instructed Cong. Aquino regarding this matter. Cong. Aquino, on the other hand, discussed that as part of his pork barrel, he has already made some finalizations on the realization of this project.

"At present, I am now negotiating the owner of the CAP Building along J. C. Aquino Avenue for the possible location of the office", Cong. Aquino said.

Aquino also said that aside from DFA, his office, together with the local officials of Butuan City is now on its plan to bring the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) office to the region.

It can be recalled that POEA office is sharing a space with the Overseas Workers' Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Meanwhile, Cong. Aquino personally invited President Arroyo as guest of honor in the opening of the Foreign Affairs office next month. (Robert E. Roperos, PIA-13)

MOA Signing for I-CARE
Hon. Democrito “Boy Daku” Plaza II, City Mayor signed a memorandum of agreements with TESDA for the Invigorating Constituents Assistance in Reinforcing Employment (I- CARE) Program, thereby cementing the scholarship commitment totaling PhP 9Million for his poor but deserving constituents.

Mayor Plaza revealed that the city government has bankrolled the I-CARE scholarship program in tandem with TESDA because of his belief that his constituents deserved only the best for themselves. In a humbling tone, he even likened himself as nothing but a caretaker of the funds of his constituents of whom he desire to serve with utmost dedication with accompanying results.

Atty. Webb L. Racaza, City Administrator, in tandem with Dr. Aurora G. Zaportiza, PESO Manager and concurrently the BCMTC Manager, were instrumental in explaining and lobbying for the passage of resolutions in support for the I-CARE scholarship program component. Furthermore, Dr. Zaportiza herself has always been at the forefront, from conception to implementation, in realizing the gains that BCMTC has achieved so far, including employment of graduates abroad.

OIC-Provincial Director Velez revealed with a pride that the City Government of Butuan had achieved a historic distinction of being “the first city government to have signed the I-CARE Program in the entire Caraga Region. And this is but a big opportunity given by Mayor Plaza to his constituents

Medical transcription in Mindanao remains vibrant

HOPE springs for medical and non-medical professionals in Mindanao to pursue a career in medical transcription as investors are now eyeing at expanding medical transcription business in key cities outside Metro Manila.

In its Mindanao-wide consultation meeting held last April 11 in Davao City, the Medical Transcription Industry Association of the Philippines (MTIAP) revealed that medical transcription industry players are poised for business expansion in Mindanao's "next-wave cities" such as Davao, General Santos, Butuan, Zamboanga and Tacurong which offer cheap occupation rentals while at the same time reach jobseekers in the provinces who can't afford for a medical transcription career in Manila.

"We are barely scratching the US market," said Myla Rose Mundo-Reyes, president of the MTIAP while referring to the Philippines' share in the global medical industry.

The Philippines, she said, is only serving one-percent of the total medical transcription market in the United States as against Canada and India, two of the leading MT service providers in the world.

The insufficient number of qualified workers remains at the top of MTIAP concerns as the country's 10,000 medical transcriptionists can't suffice the demand of general, business, legal, accounting and hospital transcription fields in the US.

Reyes added that while the US remains the top market for medical transcription, other areas in the European and Caribbean regions are also catching up in terms of growth in demand.

Transcription Alliance of Davao Incorporation shares MTIAP's desire to strengthen the advocacy for uplifting the quality and image of the MT career professionals in the Philippines, said its president Wit Holganza during the meeting.

The MTIAP aims to triple the current number of Filipino medical transcription workers as they projected more than US$8 billion in terms of outsource and more than US$726 million in offshore market opportunities by 2010.

It hopes to establish stronger branding, front-end awareness, and linkages with relevant international associations, as well as find partners and open up more business opportunities for our local medical transcription companies, said Reyes, adding that her group envisions the country to become the preferred offshore and outsource destination for medical transcription. Bakit? ndi pa ba naging Archdiocese ang Butuan? Ano ba ang kaibahan ng Diocese at Archdiocese i mean paano ba ang processo nyan? Meaning that if you have cardinal in a particular place maging ARchidiocese na ang isang place? Sino yong bishop na nasa St Peter seminary nakatira? diba sya ang head ng mga obispo ng entire Butuan? At ano ang mga requirements para umangat to Archdiocese ika nga?

i just hope the visit of Papal Nuncio will be beneficial for the Diocese of Butuan..I think that Butuan should be elevated to Archdiocese status..its too long already they should recognice the seat of Roman Catholicism in Minadano..its BUTUAN...

BUTUAn HISTORICAL PARK DEVELOPMENT STARTS

The City Government has started the site development of the Butuan Historical Park formerly tagged as the MDG Theme Park in the area of 3.3 hectares covering seven barangays along the Agusan River. What before was a place occupied by informal settlers has now been cleared to give way to the beautification project.

The Butuan Histroical Park is a one-stop shop park that will not only serve as showcase of all MDG-related services of the City but will also serve as showcase of an inter-barangay collaboration in managing and sustaining the environment for the sustainable development of our city.

The areas from Brgy. Agao to Brgy. Leon Kilat were filled up with sand and gravel to elevate it above flood level. Garden soil covered the areas which according to the lay-out will be planted with trees, ornamental and flowering plants. Eventually, we will be seeing the installation of the MDG Monument and the construction of coffee shops, souvenir shops, rentable stalls, an ampi-theater, pavilions, floating docks, bicycle lanes, and other recreation facilities in the area.

The funds for the Butuan Historical Park come from the United Nations Human Settlements Program. The park will showcase the MDG Monument depicting the eight goals of the MDG which are #1 Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger, #2 Achieve Universal Primary Education, #3 Promote Gender Equality and Women Empowerment, #4 Reduce Child Mortality, #5 Improve Maternal Health, #6 Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other infectious diseases, #7 Ensure Environmental Sustainability, and #8 Develop the Global-local Partnership for Development.

The City Government, through the leadership of Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II, and with the assistance of the UN Habitat, will be formulating the MDG-responsive Executive-Legislative Agenda and Barangay Development Plans, seeing to it that a widely participatory and rights-based approach will be used.

Soon, a Butuan Historical Park will stand where once was an area filled with informal settlers. Aside from this, Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II is also planning other river development projects to promote tourism and the beauty of Agusan River to the locals and tourists alike.

Filinvest set to unveil P1.5B posh condo project

FILINVEST Land Inc. (FLI) will proceed with the groundbreaking of its P1.5 billion One Oasis Davao condominium complex next week with Vice President Noli de Castro as the guest of honor.

During a media update held at FLI's Orange Grove Club House in Matina, Davao City on Wednesday, Filinvest branch manager Allan Barquilla said they will push through with the groundbreaking on May 9 two of the seven buildings within the complex, which will also have a condotel with amenities to include guarded access gates, clubhouse, gardens, parks, children playground, and swimming pool.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

The complex is located in a 2.3-hectare property at Ecoland Drive beside SM City Davao. One Oasis is a cluster of medium rise residential building (MRB) commonly called as "Walk Up Condominium."

Each building will have five levels and each floor will have choices of two-bedroom unit, one-bedroom, and studio type units. It will have 120 residential condominium units per building or a total of 850 residential units for the seven buildings.

The One Oasis Davao is an Asian-Tropical-inspired community where it is located near offices, schools, churches, health clinics and commercial establishments accessible to public transport along Quimpo Boulevard.

FLI senior business development manager Geraline C. de Gorostiza, who oversees One Oasis Davao, said they had been very aggressive about such projects because of strong market acceptance where more people want to live in the center.

She said they got queries mostly from out-of-towns like the cities of Kidapawan, Koronadal, and General Santos who send their children to universities here.

"We are bullish about this based on the way we see the market," she said.

But she said real property development needs big investment and even if there is a big market, the project won't proceed if there are no resources. She said they are also looking at other areas to develop and their company is optimistic the venture will be profitable.

In fact, she said the other condominium project will be set up in Ma-a also in Davao City.

She added that they have already acquired a 120-hectare property in Tambler in General Santos City but they are still looking for an area of 10 to 15 hectares within the heart of the city for a mixed-use residential area.

Barquilla meanwhile said they currently have five projects already established in the Davao Region. The other four projects are the eight hectares Filinvest Homes at Visayan Village in Tagum City, Orange Grove in Matina, Le Jardin in Ma-a with 12 hectares, Fuente de Villa Abrille, 10 hectares at Tulip Drive, Matina, and the 50 hectares residential resort Kembali Coast in Kaputian District at the Island Garden City of Samal.

He also said their first project in Butuan City, the Filinvest Homes, will have its groundbreaking on May 16. It is a 12-hectare joint venture project with the Plazas.

Yao Group to refleet merged airlines

By LEE C. CHIPONGIAN
The Manila Bulletin
http://www.mb.com.ph/BSNS20080424122657.html

The Yao Group of Companies is investing P3 billion to P4 billion to refleet a new domestic airline, which would be the result of the merger between Asian Spirit and Southeast Asian Airlines (SeaAir).

Company chair Alfredo Yao said they purchased the two airlines for "less than P2 billion."

After the merger, Yao said they are planning to buy five new aircraft to boost its chartered flight fleet.

Yao, who talked to reporters at the sidelines of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and Department of Education’s "Financial Education Program for Elementary Students" MoA signing yesterday, said that they will also rebrand the fleet.

The Yao Group owns fruit-juice maker Zesto.

The group first bought Asian Spirit from the Airline Employees Cooperative (AEC). AEC, a group of 36 members, is a domestic passenger airline with scheduled services to tourist destinations and secondary and tertiary airports that were largely ignored by the bigger airlines.

SeaAir, on the other hand, is a chartered flight airline operating short routes.

The Yao Group plans to expand SeaAir’s limited chartered flight operations in the country as well as fly to other countries in the region.

SeaAir had plans to compete in the booming regional budget air travel with the expansion of its operations to Singapore and Macau after it forged an agreement with Tiger airways for a long-term lease of two A320s.

At the moment, SeaAir operates its own in-house maintenance facility at Clark Airfield, Pampanga. It has 13 aircraft.

It flies to select destinations in the country including Clark, Antique, Bacolod , Baguio , Baler, Bantayan, Basco, Caticlan and Kalibo, Busuanga, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Calbayog, Camiguin Catarman, Zamboanga, Jolo and TawiTawi.

In the meantime Asian Spirit have flights to San Jose, Cauayan, Boracay, Masbate, Virac, Daet, Batanes and Tablas

The Ancient Butuan Silver Strip...

http://www.bibingka.com/dahon/mystery/silver.gif

The Butuan area has been a rich source of material from ancient Philippines for both treasure hunters and trained archaeologists. So it was in the mid-seventies when a team from the National Museum of the Philippines excavating a site was told that a strip of metal with some kind of writing had been found by a treasure hunter.

Fortunately, the artifact was already in the hands of Proceso Gonzales, the city engineer of Butuan. He understood the importance of the find and took possession of it.

The metal strip was found inside a wooden coffin by treasure hunters who were looking for ceramic and gold objects that could be sold for high prices to private collectors. According to Dr. Jesus Peralta, similar burials in wooden coffins in the vicinity of Butuan had previously been found to contain human remains with skulls that have been artificially deformed. This practice was apparently limited to Southern Philippines, the beauty standard for such head shapes never finding its way to Luzon.

Ceramics and ornaments were usually placed in the coffins, the ceramic pieces dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. If the metal strip was found within a typical coffin, it would have logically come from the same era.

While the metal piece could have come from foreign shores, the safest and most conservative position one can take is that an artifact belongs in the place where it was found unless it can be proven otherwise.

The letters were cut into the piece of metal with a knife. The difficulty of making curved lines on metal with a knife is apparent in the clumsy shapes of the letters. The strip measures 17.8 x 1.3 cm.

Peralta reports that the late Dr. Boechari of Indonesia identified the script as "similar to a Javanese script that had been in use from the 12th to the 15th century" (late Kavi?).

At this time, the writing has not been convincingly deciphered nor have the letters in the strip been identified. A successful transliteration would not guarantee a decipherment because of the brevity of the sample, though.

A companion piece with similar writing was also reportedly found in the same coffin. However, the owner refused to part with it because he believed it held the key to the location of a treasure hoard. How he hoped to use that piece to locate the treasure without translating the message is not known. Neither do we know why it is that piece and not the one he gave up that holds the secret.

That second piece will play an important role in solving the mystery of the Butuan silver strip.

Bakit? ndi pa ba naging Archdiocese ang Butuan? Ano ba ang kaibahan ng Diocese at Archdiocese i mean paano ba ang processo nyan? Meaning that if you have cardinal in a particular place maging ARchidiocese na ang isang place? Sino yong bishop na nasa St Peter seminary nakatira? diba sya ang head ng mga obispo ng entire Butuan? At ano ang mga requirements para umangat to Archdiocese ika nga?

i really dont know the process and the qualification of a elevation of diocese to archdiocese..i think its on the population and the amount of contribution with regard to collection of fees from mass and the assertivness of the local church becuase politics will surely play with it remember that Vatican is a state...the sole decision maker in terms of catholic heirarchy..:ohno:

Officially Butuan is still a diocese with parishes located in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur. Hence it do not have an archbishop. There is a plan now to form a separate diocese composed of parishes in agusan del sur. When this happens, maybe the Diocese of Butuan will be converted into an ArchDiocese overseeing all the Dioceses located in Caraga. For the moment this job is being handled by the ArchDiocese of Cagayan de Oro.

DOLE Caraga announces search for outstanding employers and employees
by Robert E. Roperos

Butuan City (April 29) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Caraga Region recently announces this year's search for Outstanding employers and employees for the region.

This year's search is aimed at recognizing best performing companies and workers in the four provinces and three cities of Caraga region, where companies and workers in different categories shall be given Awards of Excellence, and open to small and medium enterprise (SME) and large companies of industry classification.

For outstanding employers, 40% is weighed for social responsibility and contribution to socio-economic development, 30% for workers' concern, and 30% for industry leadership where creativity and innovativeness as well as systems and approaches in service delivery improvement are among the added features to be considered.

For employees to be rated outstanding, they must possess the following criteria composed of 30 % for leadership and integrity. Another 30% is given for their work performance, 20% for community involvement, and 20% is rated to special contribution and employees' development.

Members of the board of judges are composed of representatives from the labor sector, management sector, government sector, civic and non-government organizations, and the media.

The Caraga Search for Outstanding Employers and Employees is a socio-economic development and functions as venue for industrial peace, organized by Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (TIPC) to promote other development initiatives.

TIPCs, on the other hand, should implement more programs and projects supportive to the attainment of its vision and mission.

With this development, the programs and activities of the search supports the ten-point agenda of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the program thrusts of DOLE, where the programs and projects can be direct or indirect activities to individual or as collective undertaking of the TIPC members. (PIA-13)

Regjeex please email Robert Roperos to include Dinagat Islands as a province plus Bayugan, Cabadbaran and Tandag as cities. Caraga has five provinces and six cities. Articles from the Philippine Information Agency(PIA) should be as accurate as possible.

i cant help but comment on this, what i did was just post what is being published sa local newspaper. even me was suddened about the news but news is news and i guess it's a good opportunity for surigaonon if indeed it was true. if i remember it clearly i took a picture of that news from that local newspaper and post it on the surigao thread.

anyway BXU Angel this is for you:

Bukidnon infra projects earmarked

THE National Economic and Development Authority (Neda)-Northern Mindanao cites priority road, irrigation, power, environment protection and other infrastructure projects covering Bukidnon in the Medium Term Public Investment Program for Mindanao 2007-2010.

Included are the ongoing P450-million Talakag irrigation project, P1.9-billion Misamis Oriental-Bukidnon-Agusan del Norte-Butuan City Road, P4.608-billion Mindanao east-west lateral road, Misamis Oriental-Bukidnon bypass road (from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) lump sum allocation), P210-million rehabilitation of Pulangui IV hydroelectric power plant reservoir in Maramag, Bukidnon, P250-million Mindanao North Coast integrated area development project and the proposed P162-million integrated management and protection of watershed and coastal areas and P60-million Rural Roads for Food under the Food for Work Program.

As an offshoot of Regional Development Council (RDC) 10 Resolution No. 14 series of 2006, recommending the widening into four lanes of the Sayre Highway-Puerto-Damulog stretch, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Northern Mindanao also slated the continuing rehabilitation, upgrading and widening of the Sayre Highway (from barangay Puerto to barangay Dologon in Maramag town in Bukidnon) in 2008-2010.

Aside from the preventive and regular maintenance fund allotments, some P136-million allocation for the Maramag-Maridugao Road in 2008 is proposed for realignment to the Sayre Highway particularly along the boundary of Barangay Alae in Manolo Fortich to Barangay Kisolon of Sumilao town in Bukidnon.

Another P50 million is also allotted for the Mangima section this year.

As part of the Mindanao super region's development strategy, inter-regional projects are implemented traversing Bukidnon like the P3.272-billion Talaingod-Valencia road and the P8.010-bilion Abaga-Kirahon-Maramag-Bunawan 230KV transmission project.

Mindanao-wide small irrigation projects, farm-to-market roads and barangay electrification programs are also expected to cover the province as well.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
haaay, salamat sa Ginoo....ngano karon pa man intawon ning Butuan-Bukidnon Road...
this Bukidnon-Butuan Road Project was been in the RDC 10 drawing boards for decades ! During those times when Butuan and Agusan del Norte (where this hi-way would traverse) are still part of Region 10..
in Caraga side, the Butuan-Las Nieves-Esperanza section is now being cleared... I hope Region 10 component of this hi way will really kick off...
once built, the landlocked province of Bukidnon will have a new alternative port (currently all in CDO) to the Northeastern ports of Masao,Butuan and Nasipit.. giving access to Bukidnon to eastern nautical highway and Pacific seaboard..
