CSU AND THE BUTUAN CITY GOVERNMENT WILL HOLD PPAP FORUM ON OCTOBER 19-20 AT PRINCE HOTEL, BUTUAN CITY

The Caraga State University (CSU), in partnership with the City Government of Butuan is holding the Public-Private Academe Partnership (PPAP) Forum on October 19-20, 2011 at Prince Hotel, Montilla Blvd., Butuan City. The forum is aimed at providing a venue for private industries and public or government sector to come together to plan for mutually beneficial projects, with the Academe and the Local Government as catalysts in providing inputs (e.g. technical information) as a project management support.

Topics that will be covered in this 2-day seminar workshop are as follows:

•Overview of PPP in the Philippines
•Integration of PPP in the Mindanao Development Directions
•PPP Prospects, Opportunities and Challenges in Butuan City and Agusan del Norte
•PPP Prospects in Green Energy Production, Agro- and Mine Tourism and Agri-Industry
•PPP on Creating the Education-Economic Zone Towards Productivity, Income and Empowerment

Convergence planning, harmonization workshop to be held in Butuan

BUTUAN CITY, Oct. 19 (PIA) – City Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. initiated the Convergence Planning and Harmonization Workshop for this city for Calendar Year 2011-2013 among partner agencies in the government.

During the recently held Regional Development Council – Development Administration Committee (RDC-DAC) Meeting, Mayor Amante recalled that in 2007, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Department of Finance (DoF), and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) have signed the Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) providing Guidelines on the Harmonization of Local Planning, Investment Programming, Revenue Administration, Budgeting and Expenditure Management.

The signing of JMC No. 1 series of 2007 proved to be the landmark policy in the synchronization and harmonization of the core local government unit operations.

“The city aims to be the pilot LGU in Caraga region to implement the JMC and apply the principles of convergence,” stressed Amante.

Also, in line with the JMC, Mayor Amante, who at the same time the RDC-DAC chairperson called a meeting on June 27, 2011 between the city government of Butuan and the regional line agencies catering frontline services to the LGU to plan out a harmonization workshop for the projects and programs for Butuan.

The actual convergence planning and harmonization workshop was conducted on August 19, 2011 at the Balanghai Hotel here.

It was also learned that the objectives of said workshop are: 1) to match similar projects of the city and regional line agencies for possible expansion, prioritization and avoid overlapping of projects; 2) for regional line agencies to present to the city their planned interventions within the City’s jurisdiction for proper coordination and assistance; and 3) for the city to present the gaps where the regional line agencies can assist in funding or technical assistance.

With this development, Mayor Amante is seeking commitment from the RDC-DAC members and other partner agencies, stakeholders to support the Harmonized Butuan City Convergence Plan. (JPG/PIA-Caraga)

DILG to LGUs: Revisit implementation of ARTA Law

BUTUAN CITY, Oct. 19 (PIA) -- The Department of the Interior and Local Government Region XIII called on the local government units of Region XIII (Caraga) to review implementation of the provisions of Republic Act 9485 also known as the Anti-Red Tape Act of 2008.

The call was made during a forum dubbed “Governance Forum Towards Transparent and Efficient Frontline Services," held recently in partnership with Agencia Espanola de Cooperacion Internacional Para el Desarrollo (AECID) through the latter’s Strengthening Local Governments in the Philippines (SLGP) Project.

Participants to the forum included representatives from the six (6) cities and eight (8) selected municipalities from the four provinces which exhibited high implementation of R.A.9485. The forum will tackle the implementation report on the ARTA Law.

The survey on the ARTA law implementation was conducted by DILG XIII to assess the compliance of the abovementioned LGUs to the Anti-Red Tape Act as well as measure the level of satisfaction of their customers/clientele.

DILG Assistant Regional Director Lilibeth A. Famacion said that before the passage of the ARTA Law, red tape was rampant and fixers transacted business for clients at the city/municipal halls.

The Anti-Red Tape Act aims to eliminate red tape, graft and corruption through transparency, accountability and predictability by simplifying frontline procedures and formulating service standards to be observed in every transaction.

The DILG in partnership with the Civil Service Commission and other agencies is responsible in monitoring implementation of the ARTA. (DILG-13/PIA-Caraga)

Try visiting OTOP in Gmall and you'll see "Made in Butuan" products on display. Ang Celebes pud, I haven't seen their products at grocery stores. I haven't seen their print ads as well.

Zamboanga trading was originally owned by a businessman from Zamboanga City who was renting a space along G. Flores Ave owned by the Ong Yius. When the businessman left Butuan for good during the 70s or 80s, the Ong Yius took over.

Earlier this year, the Ong Yius decided to close Zamboanga Trading coz the son who managed it will immigrate to the US with his family. They renovated their building and is now for rent.

I got this info straight from the owner's mouth coz I was also curious if they are from Zamboanga but i was told that they are Butuan-born Chinese.:)

BUTUAN CITY, Oct. 21 (PIA) -- The members of Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) debating team out-argued their opponents, emerging triumphant as champion of Butuan City Water District’s (BCWD) 2nd Parliamentary Debate held recently at the BCWD Training Hall.

Six teams from four tertiary level schools participated in the said contest. These schools were Balite Institute of Technology (BIT), Caraga State University (CSU), with FSUU and St. Joseph Institute of Technology (SJIT) sending two teams each to compete.

A few weeks ago, my brother who works in a Bank here told me "wala man diay si Victor Plaza nipirma" as what their client revealed to him who is close to victor's wife. I didn't believe him especially when there were already demolition taking place in the area. But now, Rosarios' is expanding their parking space??? Basi tinuod gyud.

...and yes I saw it too, that First standard building is being repainted.

So if this is true & that Plaza lot along JCAA is not SM Savemore's location, saan naman kaya? or baka wala nang Savemore but SM City lang talaga as per press release made by SM PRIME? (link posted by regjeex).

the mall as what their website posted is within 3 years pa....after the development of their Lanang and Gensan projects are completed

so it is correct to assume that SAVEMORE first then the MALL after...

there's NO press release nor official reports from SM management about a SAVEMORE plan in Butuan though

I think the SONY CENTER that will open @ the former Gillamacs Bldg will be a complete display of SONY Products that's why it will be called SONY SQUARE. The one in their Desmark Montilla Branch I think is just a Sony Service Center where they also sell limited SONY products like mga TV & Home Theater lang.
