this is the confirmation that we all have been waiting for.....this cements status of Butuan as one best hubs for learning in the country....

from pre-school/elem (as we have a lot of excellent sped centers), to secondary (as we have science schools/academic institutions offering science curriculum....and now the Phil Sci) to higher education (we have FSUU-one of the country's best, CSU,St. Peter Seminary, SJIT and more...)

very timely question Nyor Delpin....

a week ago, the mayor was in Manila....part of his travel was the final deed of donation by the Guingona family for their 5 hectare lot .....to be donated for the Philippine Science High School Branch in Ampayon, Butuan City ^^

Hydropower plants up in Butuan
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
December 15, 2011, 3:01pm

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – The effort of the city government here and the local business group on public-private-partnership finally bared fruit Wednesday afternoon when a Japanese firm and three local business firms inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct run-to-river mini-hydropower plants in this region’s frontier and capital city in the Caraga Region.

The setting up of multi-million-peso run-to-river hydropower plants in this city will be a big boost to the national government’s Mindanao power generation program for 2012 and beyond, business analysts here said.

The signing of MoU at a hotel and convention center was witnessed by city officials led by Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante Jr. and Vice Mayor Lawrence Fortun; Yuji Munehiro, general manager of business planning division/business promotion group Toe (traffic operations engineer) of the CHODAI, Co., Ltd.; Satoshi Kato, manager, business planning and development division; Motohide Takano, vice-president of the Twinpeak Hydro Resources Corporation (THRC); Hendrick R. Menegdeg, president of the Hydro Resources Management and Consultancy, Inc.; and other local business leaders.

Signatories of the MOU include Ronnie Vicente C. Lagnada, chief operating officer of the Equi-Parco Construction (EPC) Company, and Director Akinori Ido P.E. Jp. of CHODAI, Co. Ltd., a “Kabushiki Kaisha” group based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan.

Under the MoU, the EPC, CHODAI, and THRC agreed to initially establish run-to-river mini hydropower plants in the Taguibo and Asiga rivers here.

The Japanese and local partners also agreed to help one another to establish two power plants producing 2.4 megawatts and 2.6 megawatts in Taguibo River, and another eight megawatts in Asiga River.

Under the MoU, the parties agreed for the grant of an exclusive right to explore, develop, operate, manage, and utilize hydro power resources in the said rivers.

“This power project in Butuan is a big help to Butuanons, and also a plus factor to the growing industries in this part of Mindanao. This is also a big support to our national government’s power generation in Mindanao,” said businessman Ronnie Vic Lagnada.

wow...like this project because.....

-hydropower is a "green" move and is very sustainable
-it is harnessing the full potential of the Taguibo and Asiga river
-this will create a mountain of other opportunities-employment, cheap source of power (this will encourage more investors)

over-all this project will catapult Butuan's progress

i think there are only 2 PSHS campuses in mindanao, the one in davao city and the one in lanao del norte , kung may butuan campus it will be the caraga branch and the third in mindanao :banana::banana::banana::banana:

kung saan ang mauna matapos.. kasi may itatayo rin sila in Socksargen Region, that was in Koronadal city.. so magiging 4 na ang PSHS campuses sa Mindanao. :okay:

Functional kaayo ang runway lights reg, dugay ra na functional, last year ra nako nabantayan. Bisag daytime, ilang i-on ang runway lights. Our concern here is the runway length tapos additional night vision equipment.

We're so blessed that we weren't really affected by Sendong. Praise GOD for that! The rains in the previous days were like the rainy days of January.

DPWH allots P15.3-M road maintenance budget for Butuan City in 2012
by Robert E. Roperos

BUTUAN CITY, Dec. 18 (PIA) -– The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Butuan City District Engineering Office (BCDEO) has allotted P15,307,000 for the road maintenance of this city in 2012.

The announcement was made by BCDEO Planning Engr. Rey Canlas in an interview with a local broadcaster here recently, saying roads in the city must be well-maintained so that this will last for a long period of time.

“Naa ta’y budget nga P15,307,000 for the whole year para sa atong maintenance sa kalsada sa national highway sa Butuan City area,” Canlas said.

(We have a budget allocation amounting to P15,307,000 for the whole year for the maintenance of roads in the national highway in Butuan City area.)

Engr. Canlas said aside from developing farm-to-market and barangay roads, DPWH is also focusing on the maintenance of the roads. “Through this, the local government could be able to save money,” he added.

The BCDEO official also said part of the budget will go to the wages of the workers who will maintain the said infrastructure project.

He added these workers are under the “Kalsada Natin, Alagaan Natin” program of the national government.

The nationwide program aimed to implement maintenance and infrastructure development particularly on road projects. (PIA-Caraga)

guys, my heart cries out for CDO & Iligan, until now, my legs shakes eveytime I see photos of the disaster.

I thank God for His protection when my nephew had to swim from his apartment towards the parking area of the compound. He is a 1st year college student of Xavier U & stays alone in an apartment, a two storey building wherein his room is located @ the second floor. When he called us up last friday around 12 midnight, he said two steps nalang daw & the water will reach his room na. Can you imagine how deep that is? & he had no choice but swim to safety, di ra ba tu kabalo mulangoy. Ang first floor kay submerged na sa water. We felt so helpless we couldn't do anything to help him. Good thing two of his classmtes were with him at that time. They stayed in an evacuation center for the night. We have relatives in Alwana, Cogman pero baha man ang highway & we couldn't risk my nephew's safety in going there. What is important he is safe now, Thank God.

CSU Gets 3.5 Million Funds from DENR

http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab140/regjeex/1-1.png

December 12, 2011. CSU Pres. Dr. Joanna B. Cuenca signed a memorandum of agreement with the DENR Secretary Hon. Ramon J.P. Paje for a PhP. 3.5 Million financial support for the construction of clonal nurseries and facilities, program on manpower development and related activities pertaining to clonal propagation technology.

DENR will provide a mobilization fund amounting to 15% of the PhP. 3.5 Million upon signing of the MOA and release the remaining amount following the approve work and financial plan for the project.

DENR will also provide assistance in seed sourcing, collection, processing and storage as well as establishment of clonal nurseries and facilities. They will also provide technical guidance in the selection or profile of species to be planted, propagation of select tree species as well as methodologies and techniques on reforestation based on DENR research outputs, experiences and policies.

CSU on the other hand shall manage the funds for the establishment of clonal facilities for the construction of clonal nursery complex to include ramet/hedge gardens, and seed storage/seed banking.

CSU must oversee the establishment, maintenance and operation of clonal nursery and related facilities and shall be responsible for the production of quality planting materials for the National Greening Program (NGP).

Moreover, CSU using its network and in coordination with the DENR, assist in the distribution and out planting of planting materials raised in these nurseries.

http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab140/regjeex/2-1.png

The DENR and CSU partnership is part of the Executive Order No. 26 issued by His Excellency, President Benigno S. Aquino III declaring the implementation of a National Greening Program (NGP) as government priority for poverty reduction, food security, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.

EO 26 prescribes the harmonization of all greening efforts and similar initiatives of the government, the private sector, LGU and the civil society, and provides the list of partner agencies and stakeholders including state universities and colleges (SUCs) with respective roles and responsibilities. EO 26 designated the DENR as the lead agency in the implementation o the NGP.

This endeavor is just one of the results of the public, private academe partnership between CSU and the Butuan City Government brought to us by Honorable Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr. M.D. and Honorable Governor John Erlpe M. Amante. mt

Investors eye 2 power generation projects in Butuan
The Philippine Star Updated December 19, 2011 12:00 AM

http://www.philstar.com/nation/article.aspx?publicationSubCategoryId=67&articleId=759832

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Two Japanese companies are set to invest in power generation projects in this city, Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. said.

Amante said EJ Holdings Inc. has expressed interest in putting up a waste-to-energy project through the operation of a sanitary landfill in Dumalagan town.

The company has already applied for a loan with the Japan International Cooperation Agency to fund a feasibility study for the landfill operation. It also signed a memorandum of understanding with the city government for the conduct of the study.

The Chodai Group, on the other hand, would like to put up a hydropower project in the province. It conducted ocular inspections here and is set to discuss and perform additional feasibility studies.

Power generation projects are among the 11 priority Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects presented by Amante to potential investors during a recent investment trip to Japan.

The PPP projects include corporate farming and agro-forestry with farm-to-market roads as support infrastructure; development of the Masao Container Port, airport and waterways; and water system and renewable energy development.

Other projects are human resources and tourism development, housing, completion of the south market or integrated business center, drainage development and major rehabilitation of roads and bridges, solid waste management, organic food production, and upgrading of the Butuan Medical Center.

Last month, a Japanese PPP research center reported that Butuan City is ideal for PPP investment opportunities in agriculture and renewable energy.

The report contained observations in the fields of agriculture, recycling, renewable energy, economic enterprise and tourism.

Recommendations included the mechanization of the agriculture industry, the conversion of waste to energy, and the use of wood pellets as biomass fuel.

PIA Press Release
Tuesday, December 20, 2011

Hydropower plants up in Butuan
BUTUAN CITY, Dec. 20 (PIA) -– The effort of the city government here and the local business group on public-private-partnership finally bared fruit when a Japanese firm and three local business firms recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct run-to-river mini-hydropower plants in this region’s frontier and capital city in the Caraga Region.

“We are looking forward for the realization of these projects here in the Philippines,” also said Ido, along with his interpreter, during the signing of the agreement.

Last month, the EPC and CHODAI already entered into certain non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for the realization of the said project.

Also, the public-private-partnership (PPP) projects with the Japanese group was strengthened after city officials led by Amante presented more than 10,000 hectares of investment possibilities for co-management project here during the Tokyo business and investment forum last month, where the Research Center for PPP Toyo University also presented PPP possibilities for the future of this city.

“The signing of this hydro power projects in Butuan City is a big breakthrough where the Japanese group responded to our business opportunities here and we are expecting more foreign investors with PPP projects in the coming years,” stressed Amante.

He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Lagnada group for initiating the PPP program between the governments of Japan and Butuan. (MUC/PIA-Caraga)

i know you have good intensions but you know, I hope na irresponsible mining na lang ang imong buot pasabot... kay kung di ka gusto nga naay mining sa bisa'g asang lugar, you must be prepared na di mogamit sa tanan butang nga nahimo tungod sa mining. kay unsa ba'y pulos kanang ingon nimo nga di ka gusto ug mining pero hangtud karon, gagamit gamit ka pa gihapon ug mga butang nga nahimo tungod sa mining...like for example PC, laptop, celfone, semento, metal kitchen utensils, sakyanan, barko, edro ug unsa pa diha nga mga butang nga gagikan sa mining... I hope you got what I mean....

Recommendations included the mechanization of the agriculture industry, the conversion of waste to energy, and the use of wood pellets as biomass fuel.

i saw/heard over TV Patrol Caraga... LGU of Butuan is giving 300t each to CDO and Iligan. on top of this, the city also provided in kind goods. Butuan also sent its newly formed-disaster team (was it BUSART?) to help in the rescue efforts. organizations, churches, TV stations, fraternities and other groups based in the city also have mobilized their respective relief operations....

wow...wow.....wow....:

Butuan will now have its own source of power....sooner, we will be supplying even the rest of the region....electricity cost will go down....more investors/operators will come....and employment and service sectors will improve....

this hyrdropowerplant will propel fast development of Taguibo and the whole of Butuan
