you didn't get my point.. i am talking about inside the NOVO.. not the department store.. same with Gaisano.. still a department store on it but no stay-in workers (i guess) but if they do have stay-in workers, they declared it while applying for a business permit.. and then if they do really have stay-in workers (in Gaisano), they comply with the BFP to have a certificate (which they do) as one of the requirements..

but in NOVO's part, they didn't declare that they have stay-in workers.. so they don't need to have a BFP Certification relating to stay-in.. they do just have another type of certification that they have fire exits and fire extinguisher..

the bad thing is, the fire extinguisher is located ground floor and the fire exit is located in the 2nd floor where the fire began..

it depends.. kasi if you declare that inside the department store is only a warehouse and no stay-in workers, they don't really need Fire Inspection Certificate (FIC).. same with other warehouse.. they don't apply on it..

better late than never.....i have a wish though......they should done this a long time ago and make it regular from now on

Police told: Locate owners of burned store in Butuan
Saturday, May 12, 2012

BUTUAN CITY -- Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo ordered the police Saturday to locate the real owners of a garment and general merchandise store that was hit by fire in this city last May 9.

The order came after close relatives of the 17 female workers who died in the fire complained of shabby treatment from the Novo Jeans and Shirts Enterprises from day one they arrived in this city.

The fatalities are all workers of the general merchandise store. Majority of them came from the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, Agusan and Surigao, and the cities of Dipolog, Ozamis and Zamboanga.

Fire in Philippine clothing store kills 17 workers
Initial investigation showed that the Novo management enforced a policy that once hired, all female workers from faraway provinces should stay in the store, with free living quarters and water but no provision for food.

Novo allegedly pay its workers for only P160 to P190 a day depending on the task being assigned to them.

The workers complained that they sometimes work more than eight hours daily and have no overtime pay.

The Regional Tripartite Wage Board of Caraga Region has set a minimum daily wage of P258, including cost of living allowance for workers on business establishments and farms.

Also in their complaints, the victims’ relatives said Novo promised to give them P26,000 each but the Bollozos and Raniel Funeral Parlors, where the fatalities lie in state for only few days, was allegedly asking them P50,000 for each cadaver.

The relatives said that since day one, it was the Butuan City Government who provided them accommodation and meals since they have not seen any help for such commodities in their temporary stay in the city while waiting for the cadavers that they would bring home.

I was taking pictures of the city hall this morning (atbang sa weegols Garden around 11:30) when an ABS-CBN Van caught my attention & noticed a "Pamahaw Espesyal" printed on the Tshirt worn by one of the ladies near me (they were also taking pics of the city hall). A little later, I saw group of people coming out from weegols with Mayor Amante & wife...I immediately recognized Jam & Bitok2.

Butuan's Rizal Park still undergoing rehab. Notice Dr. Jose Rizal's statue is off the pedestal. It will be relocated on another spot in the refurbished park. Hot topic: will he still face the PH flag instead of the Cathedral? Controversy is that Rizal was killed by the Spaniards, the same people who introduced us to the faith. He died for our country, symbolized by the flag. What do you think?

Even the name of the street made me scratch my head. I think it's still part of Ochoa Ave. Awa-aw na lugar, pero murag 4-lanes ang street.

Structure is complete. Well, almost. The stainless dedication plate is not yet in place. But look at the badges, they are quite a collector's item. I truly hope nobody will mess with them.

Why is the the Free Masons have a special monument in the city? What have they done to the city of Butuan that they deserved to have a special structure like this in a public space? I think the Boy Scouts movement is more deserving than this mafiosi type of organization.

Anyone care to educate me please? Unsa man ang nahimo nila sa mga common tao or to the general public that they are special. Aside from being elitist, may natabang ba sila sa katawhan??

Don't get me wrong, I know a few people who are members of this organization either they are public officials or private businessmen/individuals. Unfortunately I know some (not all) of them are corrupt and some are shrewed! Maybe to name a few, look at those PNP officials occupying higher positions, either past or present at least 85% of them are members of this organization. And look how corrupt they are. :lol: :lol:

All I can say is, FSUU's Alumni Homecoming this year is waaaayyyyy better than USC's last year. I had fun last saturday!

And by the way, kinsay naay copy sa kadtong urios hymn nga gi play sa alumni homecoming? The best hymn arrangement i every heard! With matching candle lighting while playing the hymn. Very nice moment!

I am not a Rotarian but my in laws are, and i like how they (Rotarians) share their blessings to those less fortunate people either in kind or their services.

I guess same as Lions club and Kiwanis. To me, these are the organizations that should be supported and we should be proud of diha sa Butuan.

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines *– Interior and Local Governments Secretary Jesse Robredo has ordered the Philippine National Police to find the owners of the burned Novo Jeans and Shirts Enterprises, amid complaints of the relatives of the victims that they have not surfaced since last Wednesday’s fire.

Robredo also gave the team investigating the fire until May 9 to wrap up its probe.

”I gave them a deadline. Unless there is need for additional forensic tests, they should be ready with their findings. Anyway it’s clear what happened,” he said.

When asked if the government can recommend a hold departure order on the owners of Novo, who were reportedly Chinese or Taiwanese nationals, Robredo said a case should be first be filed against them.

Robredo arrived here yesterday morning to assess the fire that killed 17 women workers.

Majority of the*fatalities*who were trapped when the fire struck the building before dawn, were from Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur, Misamis Occidental, Dipolog, Agusan, Surigao and Ozamis cities.

The relatives of the victims also complained of the alleged shabby treatment of the workers. Initial investigation showed that workers were only provided living quarters and water but not food.

They said Novo workers get only P160 to P190 a day and asked to work for more than eight hours with no overtime pay.

This, despite the P258 minimum wage set by the Regional Tripartite Wage Board of*theCaraga region.

Novo management was said to have promised P26,000 to each of the families of the victims, but the funeral parlor had been asking them to pay P50,000.

“Where will we get the balance of P25,000 (for the funeral parlor),” the relatives said during a meeting with Robredo.

‘Erring personnel to be relieved’

Meanwhile, Robredo said he will not hesitate to file charges and relieve erring Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel and officials who are selling fire extinguishers in exchange for permits or clearances.

In a press conference held at the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines office at the Bancasi Airport, Robredo said he has marching orders to all BFP personnel and officials not to engage in any business, business proposals or even to issue recommendations to applicants of Fire Safety Inspection Certificate, BFP clearance, and other permits from the fire agency.

*He also appealed to the public and the media to report such activities.

Robredo said Wednesday’s fire should serve as an eye opener to all BFP officials and personnel nationwide.

“Definitely heads will roll if we found out in the independent investigation we are now initiating if there are remiss of*their duties among Butuan BFP personnel,” he said.

Chiz Escudero is a friend of Atty. Jijil Jimenez.. and they keep on visiting Butuan once or twice a year.. Pero dugay na pud wala kabalik si Senator Chiz since Atty. Jimenez is in U.S.A studying in Harvard University.. His thesis topic is all about Public Private Partnership (PPP)..

Even the name of the street made me scratch my head. I think it's still part of Ochoa Ave. Awa-aw na lugar, pero murag 4-lanes ang street.

I think it's unfair to say "typical jabee stupid marketing move". We don't know the whole story why they are planning to transfer to another location. It could be that the mancaos want an increase of their rent or the mancaos decided to use the space for something else. It could also be that greenwhich management sees bigger figures if they move to rob. Whatever the reason, i'm sure there were factors being considered why they came to that business decision. There's nothing that we can do about it no matter how we wish it could be done according to our desire. One question though: How did Jollibee Foods Corporation make it to the list of the top companies in the country if they keep on having "stupid marketing moves"?

Nyor, bisan pwesto sa merkado mangita na silag strategic location. Di na basta2x nga manuktok lang og mangutana "pwede mi mo-abang diri?" on a larger scale like chowking, kinahanglan gyud na ma-meet tanan requirements like fire safety code, sanitation, blah blah blah. (PPVAAI) is set to conduct and art exhibition which will open on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in one of the local hotels here aimed to instill public awareness on the beauty of visual arts.

In an interview with PIA, Renante “Dubz” Dublois, PPVAAI founding chairman who is a native Butuanon said the activity is aimed at instilling public awareness especially the Butuanons the beauty of arts that can be interpreted through the sculptures and paintings of local and national artists.

Dublois also said some 15 artists will be participating in the event as they will be exhibiting their works that will run until May 30, 2012, in time for the celebration of Balangay Festival of this city.

Dubbed “Dugtong: Magkadugtong na Sining mula Mindanao hanggang Luzon,” the activity is sponsored by the city government of Butuan, the City Tourism Council, and Balanghai Hotel.

The paintings, according to Dublois will be sold at a much lower price as compared to the price in Manila, Cebu, Davao and other key cities in the country.

“For paintings that are sold at P60,000, for example in Metro Manila, it will only be sold at P6,000 during the exhibit… this is because we just want to promote the art to the people here in Butuan, as we start to introduce it here,” Dublois said.

Some of the paintings that will be exhibited in the event are the works of Buboy Dinapo from Davao, Jo Balbarona from Japan, Julius Legaspi of Bulacan, Armida Francisco of Manila, Joan Honoridez – Bacolod, Monaliza Domer – Quezon City, Ric Sanchez Jr. – Baguio, Alvarez Alva – Batangas, Marivel Galang – Manila, Yolanda Cabuco – Manila, Efren Palacio Jr. – Rizal, and Jose Tolentino – Davao.

Also, the works of local artists here such as Gualberto Licong Jr., Ritche Yee, Ronnie Rudinas, and Renante Dublois will be featured in the exhibit.

Dublois is calling all Butuanons to attend the art exhibit and experience the beauty of arts, made by local and national artists.

The PPVAAI is a non-stock, non-profit organization currently staffed by volunteers with a membership of visual artists. The group represent over 77 visual artists who produce fine arts in over a dozen mediums.

It provides public awareness and exposure to visual art, expand the number of art venues and marketing opportunities for member artists, and expand art outreach program activities in the community. (RER/PIA-Caraga)

I do not eat anymore at jabee nyor. Makasulod ra ko jabee if naa events like b-days and other events. But on a personal desire level, wala na.

The last time I dined regularly was when I was in manila, where the nearest fastfud breakfast is the jabee at the back of Philippine Heart Center. Just to fill the stomach though, but not really to satiate once appetite.

thanks to the breakfast meals minus the low calorie sugar (despite persistent regular request) :)

AQUINO DECLARES 3 SPECIAL NON-WORKING DAYS IN BUTUAN AND GINGOOG CITIES IN MINDANAO

The cities of Butuan and Gingoog in Mindanao will have two and one special (non-working) days; respectively, after President Benigno S. Aquino III issued three separate proclamations declaring such for said cities.

The President issued Proclamation No. 381 declaring May 19, a Saturday, as a special (non-working) day in Butuan to allow residents the full opportunity to commemorate the Silver Year of the Balangay Festival.

He also declared August 2, 2012 as a special (non-working) day in Butuan by issuing Proclamation No. 383, allowing Butuanons the opportunity to commemorate “Adlaw Hong Butuan” or Butuan City’s Charter Day.

The Balanghai Festival commemorates the coming of the early migrants that settled the Philippines, on board the Balangay boats. When the first Spaniards arrived in the 16th century, they found the Filipinos living in well-organized independent villages called barangays. The name barangay originated from balangay, the Austronesian word for "sailboat."

The Adlaw Hong Festival, meanwhile, pays tribute to Butuan’s administrative status as a city. It honors Butuan’s municipal officials, citizens and past leaders who have contributed their loyalty and efforts to the city. Adlaw Hong Butuan presents the city’s modern culture through its street parties, beauty pageants and motorcades.

For Gingoog City, President Aquino issued Proclamation No. 382, declaring May 22, a Tuesday, the city’s annual fiesta day, as a special (non-working) day to allow Ginoogans the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.

All three Proclamations were signed on Tuesday, May 14 by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Jr. by authority of President Benigno S. Aquino III. (rck)

I have to agree with you.. In a strategic perspective, it is more logical to redirect their investments to a branch within the vicinity of Robinsons Butuan. You might not agree with me but I do believe the downtown area of Butuan can no longer be considered as a "growth" area.

Yes, you would say that there is still that market in the area that a branch could serve, however, it is very much limited, leaving no opportunities for growth. Again, that is when we are looking at the long-term viability of their investments.

Yes, you would say that there is still that market in the area that a branch could serve, however, it is very much limited, leaving no opportunities for growth. Again, that is when we are looking at the long-term viability of their investments.

(PPVAAI) is set to conduct and art exhibition which will open on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in one of the local hotels here aimed to instill public awareness on the beauty of visual arts.

In an interview with PIA, Renante “Dubz” Dublois, PPVAAI founding chairman who is a native Butuanon said the activity is aimed at instilling public awareness especially the Butuanons the beauty of arts that can be interpreted through the sculptures and paintings of local and national artists.

Dublois also said some 15 artists will be participating in the event as they will be exhibiting their works that will run until May 30, 2012, in time for the celebration of Balangay Festival of this city.

Dubbed “Dugtong: Magkadugtong na Sining mula Mindanao hanggang Luzon,” the activity is sponsored by the city government of Butuan, the City Tourism Council, and Balanghai Hotel.

The paintings, according to Dublois will be sold at a much lower price as compared to the price in Manila, Cebu, Davao and other key cities in the country.

“For paintings that are sold at P60,000, for example in Metro Manila, it will only be sold at P6,000 during the exhibit… this is because we just want to promote the art to the people here in Butuan, as we start to introduce it here,” Dublois said.

Some of the paintings that will be exhibited in the event are the works of Buboy Dinapo from Davao, Jo Balbarona from Japan, Julius Legaspi of Bulacan, Armida Francisco of Manila, Joan Honoridez – Bacolod, Monaliza Domer – Quezon City, Ric Sanchez Jr. – Baguio, Alvarez Alva – Batangas, Marivel Galang – Manila, Yolanda Cabuco – Manila, Efren Palacio Jr. – Rizal, and Jose Tolentino – Davao.

Also, the works of local artists here such as Gualberto Licong Jr., Ritche Yee, Ronnie Rudinas, and Renante Dublois will be featured in the exhibit.

Dublois is calling all Butuanons to attend the art exhibit and experience the beauty of arts, made by local and national artists.

The PPVAAI is a non-stock, non-profit organization currently staffed by volunteers with a membership of visual artists. The group represent over 77 visual artists who produce fine arts in over a dozen mediums.

It provides public awareness and exposure to visual art, expand the number of art venues and marketing opportunities for member artists, and expand art outreach program activities in the community. (RER/PIA-Caraga)

Unfortunately jo, wala pa. Instead, this truck rammed through the rotunda under construction. Taken 10 May 2012, at 7am approximately 45 minutes after this mishap. Nakatulog daw ang driver. I'm sure a sturdy concrete barrier will be installed on strategic sections of the rotunda.

I was not there when it happened Jo. I took the pics about 45 minutes after the mishap mao nagkatag pa ang mga cases and empty softdrink bottles. Louy tawn.

Yes that's true its clearer in the morning kay dili pa man bawud especially if walay ulan the day before. Maayo na lang wala na or gamay nalang ang garbage dump sa Doongan wherein ang leach sa basura flows into Masao beach via the canal.

The project traverses the City Hall compound from this gate up to the portion near the opposite gate. The entrace to this "beautification" project is across the Regional Museum Lagoon. The Malvar family will bankroll the project starting with the hollow-block fencing work shown here.

actually, it's always been my desire for Butuan to have a timber/logging museum....this will become one of a kind in our country and maybe among the few in a world.....

soon history enthusiasts, students and curious visitors will have a one stop facility to view how life in the timber city Butuan was during the logging boom years....

this museum will cement Butuan's identity as a metropolitan which champions the promotion of cultures and the arts

slowly we will own the title ......the city of museums....

so far we have 4 (this excludes the few more private collectors);

-National Museum (Doongan)
-Balanghai Shrine
-Diocesan Museum
-Asian Museum (Ochoa)

plus 2 more;
-Phil-China Friendship Gate Museum
-and this timber museum

Netpal's list surprised my colleagues, especially the Asian Museum.
As to private antique collectors in Butuan, I can name a few family:

1. Leonardo Benedicto
2. the heirs of Claudio Sanchez
3. Lourdes Taruc
4. Ramon Misa
5. the heirs of Patring Fernandez
6. the heirs of Posoy Gonzalez
7. the heirs of Gov. Consuelo Calo
8. the heirs of Jose C. Aquino
9. and others with just a few pieces left on their sala divider

All these families have ties to the boom-boom logging industry of the past. And of course, the family of Judge Malvar, they have kept quite a collection of memorabilia of those by-gone days of huge troso of hardwood from the mountains of Agusan.

Dr. Malvar did not elaborate, the way I understand him it is a museum of artifacts and things related to the logging industry during the heydays of logging in Agusan and Surigao. We were once the "Timber City of the South" and there are things that needs to be preserved in a museum for people to see, whether people view logging as good or not. Very Black indeed. Here's my good friend Bob Tan (left) consoled by Atty. Nonong Balanon taken at 5:34 am. Bob's family owns that building. He one of the "sons" in the LT&Sons enterprise that operated many businesses in Butuan like cinemas, construction supply, photo finishing, etc. Unfortunately many have been closed for various reasons, and one of which is "being overtaken by progress and technology."

BUTUAN CITY, May 16 (PIA) -- The Rotary Club of Metro Butuan (RCMB) has recently launched the “Adopt-a-Village Project” in Barangay Tagabaca, a replication of its project accomplished in Barangay Nongnong, here.

During the launch, Rotarian project partners from Sebastopol, California in the United States of America graced the activity and promote sustainable partnership with the local rotary clubs in Butuan.

Rotarian Frank Mayhew, past president of RC Sebastopol said that they welcome the opportunity to help improve the lives of the Butuanons by providing support through livelihood projects and schools in the marginalized communities.

“We see the needs of the countryside and work hard to address it with the help of our partner Rotarians from other parts of the world. We also give emphasis on the importance of education as well as livelihood to sustain the needs of the community,” stressed Mayhew.

AQUINO DECLARES 3 SPECIAL NON-WORKING DAYS IN BUTUAN
AND GINGOOG CITIES IN MINDANAO
Release No. 2 May 15, 2012

The cities of Butuan and Gingoog in Mindanao will have two and one special (non-working) days; respectively, after President Benigno S. Aquino III issued three separate proclamations declaring such for said cities.

The President issued Proclamation No. 381 declaring May 19, a Saturday, as a special (non-working) day in Butuan to allow residents the full opportunity to commemorate the Silver Year of the Balangay Festival.

He also declared August 2, 2012 as a special (non-working) day in Butuan by issuing Proclamation No. 383, allowing Butuanons the opportunity to commemorate “Adlaw Hong Butuan” or Butuan City’s Charter Day.

The Balanghai Festival commemorates the coming of the early migrants that settled the Philippines, on board the Balangay boats. When the first Spaniards arrived in the 16th century, they found the Filipinos living in well-organized independent villages called barangays. The name barangay originated from balangay, the Austronesian word for "sailboat."

The Adlaw Hong Festival, meanwhile, pays tribute to Butuan’s administrative status as a city. It honors Butuan’s municipal officials, citizens and past leaders who have contributed their loyalty and efforts to the city. Adlaw Hong Butuan presents the city’s modern culture through its street parties, beauty pageants and motorcades.

For Gingoog City, President Aquino issued Proclamation No. 382, declaring May 22, a Tuesday, the city’s annual fiesta day, as a special (non-working) day to allow Ginoogans the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.

All three Proclamations were signed on Tuesday, May 14 by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Jr. by authority of President Benigno S. Aquino III. (rck)

Since wala man daw gibuhat, and the lot is "abandoned" so the Malvars will bankroll the project on that particular lot. Piolo insists nga this is an unlawful act daw. Rumors have it na mag initiate ang group ni Piolo ug SAVE CITY HALL COMPOUND MOVEMENT. :bash:

Eight young Filipino students are currently in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania representing the Philippines in the prestigious Intel® International Science and Engineering Fair® (Intel ISEF). It is such a pride that one of them is Bryce Años, a brilliant kid coming from Butuan City.

Bryce has always been a source of pride not just for his family, teachers, friends but the whole Butuan City and Caraga Region since his grade school days in Butuan City SPED Center and his latest achievement is but another source of joy for all of those who know him.

The Intel® International Science and Engineering Fair® (Intel ISEF), the world's largest international pre-college science competition, provides an annual forum for more than 1,500 high school students from about 70 countries, regions, and territories to showcase their independent research as they compete for over $3 million annually. The Intel ISEF is the premier global science competition for students in grades 9–12. (Source)

Council welcomes BCWD’s move to take lead in managing Taguibo Watershed

BUTUAN CITY, May 18 (PIA) –- Council members of the Taguibo Watershed Management welcomed the move of Butuan City Water District (BCWD) in taking the lead to manage the said watershed.

This, after the council chair and Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Caraga Regional Executive Director (RED) Leonardo Sibbaluca got the consensus of the members of whether or not to adopt BCWD’s Board Resolution 095-2011 requesting the Office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines through the DENR for the city’s water district to take the lead in managing, administering, operating and maintaining of the Taguibo Watershed Forest Reserve.

During Friday’s convergence of the council members at the DENR-Caraga Regional Training Center, Sibbaluca pointed out that the council’s decision will benefit the entire public, especially the people in Butuan City who are the clients of BCWD.

With this, the official said stakeholders from the public and private sectors should take their responsibilities to save and protect the Taguibo Watershed “as this is the only source of potable water in the city,” Sibbaluca said.

Official assures no “fixers” in Pag-IBIG Butuan

BUTUAN CITY, May 18 (PIA) -- An official of Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) or the Pag-Ibig Fund here assured that there are no 'fixers' proliferating outside their office.

According to Noli Quimbo of Pag-Ibig Fund Butuan Branch, members are required to personally file and do all the transactions they need with the agency.

“We discouraged all members to transact with the so-called ‘fixers’… we advised them to personally submit required documents as well as to transact everything they need in Pag-Ibig Fund,” Quimbo said.

The official explained those individuals who are seen bringing more documents are not fixers but fund coordinators who come from establishments located in far-flung areas like in Agusan del Sur and other provinces in the region.

Quimbo said fund coordinators are those assigned by their respective companies and/or establishments who are responsible to transact with HDMF.

He stressed they do not entertain transactions if the members are not present, except for the official fund coordinators of the member-companies.

This is part of the agency's compliance to the Republic Act 9485 or the Anti-Red Tape Act of 2007 aimed to improve efficiency in the delivery of government service to the public by reducing bureaucratic red tape, preventing graft and corruption, and providing penalties for those who will violate.(RER/PIA-Caraga)

SC sacks Butuan judge over incompetence, inefficiency

The Supreme Court has dismissed a judge in Butuan City for his failure to act on and resolve hundreds of criminal and civil cases before his sala.

Apart from dismissal from service, the high court also deprived Judge James Go of his retirement benefits, except accrued leave credits.

He was also barred from being re-employed in any branch or agency of the government, including government-owned or controlled corporations.

“This Court has long maintained the policy of upholding competence and integrity in the administration of justice. Incompetence and inefficiency have no place in the judiciary,” the SC said in an en banc decision.

The administrative complaint against Go stemmed from a judicial audit and physical inventory conducted by the Office of the Court Administrator (OCA) at the Butuan City Municipal Trial Court from September 25 to October 2, 2006.

Among the findings of the judicial audit team was his failure to:

- arraign the accused in 632 criminal cases;
- archive 140 criminal cases;
- act on summons issued in 477 criminal cases;
- act on 13 cases which had not been acted upon for a considerable length of time;
- resolve the pending incidents or motions in 15 criminal cases;
- act on 17 civil cases from the time of their filing;
- take further action on 32 civil cases; and
- resolve motions or incidents in 88 civil cases

Civil society groups meet over mining concerns

BUTUAN City - Civil society groups gathered here for a stakeholders' conference on the social cost of mining and the people's alternative at the Fr. Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) campus in Libertad last Tuesday. The conference, dubbed as the "Convergence of Conscience," was launched in the hope of gathering insights on how to consolidate future actions to protect the region's environment. FSUU president Rev. Fr. John Christian Young said the activity was aimed at leveling off the understandings on environmental sustainability in Caraga. "Is there really social justice? Is there really economic development? Is there environmental degradation as a result of mining?" asked Young.

He said there should be a commitment among the communities and other stakeholders involved in the protection of the environment. Lawyer Grizelda Mayo-Anda of the Environmental Legal Assistance Center Inc.stressed the need for partnership among church people, academics and local officials especially if the campaign results in legal battle. ABN-CBN Foundation managing director and Save Palawan Movement lead convenor Gina Lopez said mining always hurts the economy. "If mining is good for the economy and if it is really good because it provides Jobs, then why is it that the research figures don't add up to what they are claiming? Mining is destroying our ecosystem, our environment, and the hopes for our children's future," said Lopez.

Mao diay naay gamay nga plane nga sigeg libot libot yesterday. Mga skydivers diay ang sakay ato.

Siguro they all landed in different places or the skydiver pictured was the first one or the last one to land.

I counted 7 sports Cars....spotted a SUBARO & AUDI, ambot unsa tung uban hehehe....ang importante I was able to take pics of the last two sports cars nga na trapped sa traffic in JCAA near ChinaBank & Gaisano area. The first five cars were able to follow the patrol mobile nga nag lead sa ila, ang two nabilin sa traffic.

Pormal nga gisubhan kagahapon-Mayo 17- sa pagpanguna ni Rev. Father Jame Amante ang tulo ka police patrol car nga gihatag ni 1st District Congressman Jose Joboy Aquino sa Butuan city Police Office.

Ang maong mga patrol car ang gidestino sa Police Station-1, Libertad police Station ug Langihan Police Station.

Nagkantidad ang maong mga sakyanan ug tag 167 mil pesos matag usa gikan sa Priority Development Assistance Fund kon PDAF ni Congressman Jose Joboy Aquino.

Sa gihimong pakigpulong sa Kongresista sa gihimong programa atol sa maong okasyon, iyang gisaad nga mohatag pa kini ug dugang mga sakyanan sa kapolisan sa dakbayan sa Butuan aron mapanghingusgan ang kampanya batok sa krimen.

Samtang mapasalamaton usab si Caraga Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Reynaldo Rafal sa gihatag nga mga sakyanan ni Congresman Aquino sa BPCO.

Matud ni General Rafal nga daku ang mahimong ikatabang niini nga mga sakyanan sa pag responde sa bisan unsang matang sa krimen nga mahitabo sa dakbayan.
