regjeex December 18th, 2008, 07:29 AM Mao lagi nganong dugay paman nila?
I guess I am really living in a typical Pinoy society..Disorderly :)
regarding that expansion... its about time they build that south market and terminal..ngano kaha dugay dugayon pa man gyud...pastilan
regjeex December 18th, 2008, 07:33 AM Bitaw Bob... mas daghan jud og developments ang mga city sa luzon bisan gani dili city pero naa sila daghan mga establishment and malls... tungod kay ang mga investors preferred closer place than in Mindanao IMO. Permi jud behind ang Mindanao bcoz layo man gud. Mao ng usahay ma feel nato ang discrimination sa mga taga Luzon labi na pag makalitik ug gahi nga words kantsawan daun ta. Ingon dayon sila nga taga asa ka dodong? bisan pareha ra nga taga probinsya pod sila...
Batangas City looks like Gingoog but more bustling due to its big port which serves as transhipment to the rest of MIMAROPA region..it has malls too like SM
Cabanatuan is mainly founded along the highway..with a density of its big establishments along the main highway....it direly needs a good bypass road to avoid those tricycles using the highway...
Dagupan is like Olongapo but has nearby resorts...its has a rustic feel and with good urban touch.. daghan pa...Santiago City in Isabela, Vigan, Laoag, Urdaneta, Tarlac, Angeles, Lipa, Lucena etc. etc. sa Visayas and Minda daghan pa....can't make a long detail of each of them here though
BOB-bXu December 19th, 2008, 05:01 AM Banana Fits Center launched in Butuan City
by Lucila L. Esdrelon
Butuan City (December 17) -- The Provincial Farmers Information Technology Services (FITS) center, also named as Banana FITS Center of Agusan del Norte, located at the Provincial Agriculturist Office, Capitol, Butuan City was recently launched.
FITS is a none-stop information shop of technologies on agriculture, forestry and natural resources that caters to the needs of the farmers, entrepreneurs, traders, processors and other clients. The provincial FITS Center will feature the province's key crops/commodities.
Initially, it will focus on banana. It facilitates readily accessible services to users of agricultural research as it links the sources of information with the end users via the Internet through the Program's network.
With its staff and direct links with research/development experts of PCARRD/CCARRD, the center is a source of technical assistance appropriate to the needs of its clients. Aside from web-based information, print materials will be provided to clients who have no access to the Internet.
The activity was well attended by the Municipal/City Agriculturists, Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Council (MAFC) Chairmen and farmers representing the rule-based organizations within the province. Also in attendance were the different provincial agency heads.
Mr. Roque Lexter P. Dolotina, Provincial Administrator, who represented the Agusan del Norte Governor Erlpe John Amante, Ms. Maria H. Abastillas, Provincial Agriculturist and Dr. Rowena P. Varela, Consortium for Agriculture Forestry and Resources Research and Development (CCARRD) graced the occasion. (Agusan del Norte/PIA-Caraga)
BOB-bXu December 19th, 2008, 05:03 AM PSBank to expand ATMS, branch network in 2009
Tuesday, 16 December 2008 19:43
PHILIPPINE Savings Bank, the second-largest thrift bank, plans to open eight more branches and install 100 new automated teller machines (ATMs) in 2009 as part of its network expansion program.
A member of the Metrobank Group, PSBank will also look at acquisition opportunities in the industry, president Pascual Garcia III said on Tuesday.
“We have come up with a budget for eight more branches and new ATMs. We still have to present the budget proposal to the board for approval, but the plan is doable,” Pascual said in a phone interview.
“We will also consider acquisition if an opportunity comes along,” he added.
PSBank now has 164 branches and 189 ATMs nationwide. It opened its second branch in Bacolod on November 25 and plans to put up branches in Butuan, Balanga and Puerto Princesa.
Pascual said PSBank expects to end 2008 in a “very strong” position and is “well-prepared” to face the economic headwinds in 2009.
“Our fourth-quarter performance should be OK but we also need to prepare for next year,” he said.
The bank will likely set aside more provisions this quarter for any possible losses in the future.
PSBank reported last month its third-quarter net income rose 25 percent to P223 million from a year earlier as its consumer loan business grew nearly 20 percent.
Lower trading gains, an industry-wide trend, however, dented nine-month earnings, which dropped 8 percent to P725 million.
The bank has a capital adequacy ratio of 17.6 percent at the end of September, compared with the 10-percent mandated requirement.

One can actually complete the BXU-surigao trip in 2 hours. However if you are going to Tandag, you need not go to Surigao City but go straight to Placer going to Surigao del Sur. This will save you about 30 minutes of travel time. so you can actually reach Tandag within 5 hours from Butuan going the Surigao route.

BOB-bXu December 19th, 2008, 02:49 PM Processing plant to rise in Tubay
by Mary Cheryl S. Monoy
Butuan City (19 December) -- A mining processing plant that would generate employment for hundreds of local residents in the area is expected to be constructed soon in the Municipality of Tubay. This was after provincial officials expressed its go signal for the Green Town General Development Corporation (GTGDC) to construct, install and operate a small-scale mineral processing plant.
GTGDC will be the first of its kind in the area since SR Metals, Inc. and MRL-Gold/DELTA, two mining companies already existing in the area, deals only with extraction. These companies are said to earn millions of income annually.
GTGDC will occupy an area of 4,0861 hectares leased from Mrs. Fidelia S. Garcia in Barangay Sta. Ana, Tubay. It will adopt the standard method and modern technology of recovering gold by batch type and upgrading low-grade copper-lead ore.
After a series of consultations and public hearings over its feasibility, the Sangguniang Bayan of Tubay made a favorable endorsement of the project by passing Resolution No. 2008-60 last June 2, 2008 that became one of the basis of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for its approval.
Under Republic Act 7076 or the people's Small Scale Mining Act and Provincial Ordinance No. 195-2006, it is required that the site of the mineral processing plant shall be located within a mineral or industrial zone. However, since the proposed project is situated in Purok-6, Sta. Ana in Tubay, a known agricultural land, Mayor Fidel E. Garcia said that they are still in the process of revising its Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) to re-classify the area into mineral or industrial zone so that the project would begin soon.
Complying with the mandatory requirements of putting up a mineral processing plant, the GTGDC submitted the approved Environmental Clearance Certificate including its Initial Environment Examination (IEE) Report which contains the corporation project description, baseline environmental conditions, impact assessment; Environment Management Plan, Sketch plan and other related documents; Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC), and its Financial Feasibility Study (FFS).
The Municipality of Tubay is known to be rich in natural resources in the region. Minerals such as nickel, copper, ore, manganese and lead can be found here.
"After all, this will generate a lot of employment opportunities to the local residents of Tubay and enhance its commerce and trade, fees, taxes and other livelihood benefits", Board member Sadeka G. Tomaneng said, chair of the SP Committee on Environment and Natural Resources. (Agusan del Norte/PIA-Caraga)

Business leaders position Caraga as interisland trade hub
Regions
Written by Bong Garcia Jr. / Correspondent
Thursday, 18 December 2008 19:26
ZAMBOANGA CITY—The business leaders in Caraga is positioning the region as Mindanao’s gateway to the Eastern Visayas and Luzon seeing big opportunities in interisland trade and tourism.
The Caraga business leaders said that the region, which is already known as a world-class surfing destination, is drawing more investors into its fisheries, agriculture, mining and ecotourism sectors.
Caraga region has rich agricultural and marine resources and is one of the country’s top producers of nickel, gold, copper and chromite.
“The business community recognizes that mining is a key factor in Caraga’s economic growth,” Surigao Chamber of Commerce and Industry president (SCCI) Jake Miranda said.
Miranda said the Sumitomo Corp. is establishing a mining firm with Caraga’s potential in mining industry.
Miranda disclosed that a mining firm, the Philex Mining Corp., is now operating in the town of Boyongan, Surigao del Norte, one of the provinces in Caraga.
Surigao del Norte’s mineral assets, which include metallic and nonmetallic reserves, are estimated at 3.5 billion metric tons.
Nonoc Island, off Surigao City, is known to have the largest nickel deposits in Asia, while large reserves of limestone are to be found in Surigao City.
Caraga consists of the northernmost Mindanao provinces of Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat, Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur, and the cities of Butuan and Surigao.
“The region has great potential for large-scale investment,” Miranda said, adding that Caraga “is business-friendly and peaceful.”
Miranda was among the resource speakers in the recent two-day Caraga Business Con-ference organized by the SCCI with support from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), provincial and city governments and the United States Agency for International Development funded Growth with Equity in Mindanao Program under its business growth and development component.
Other speakers include Philex chairman Walter Brown, whose presentation on socially responsible mining practices was a conference highlight.
Brown said that his firm’s community-based development and environmental management programs, which create livelihood opportunities for villagers in host mining communities, had contributed to its success.
At the close of the two-day business conference, the business leaders passed resolutions seeking the establishment of Bangko Sentral regional office in Butuan City; setting up a convention and visitors’ bureau to be managed by the Caraga Regional Tourism Council; and declaring Caraga a “retiree-friendly region.”
Miranda said the resolutions aim to strengthen Caraga’s economic competitiveness.
The resolutions were presented to PCCI vice president for Mindanao Elena Haw, who was present during the two-day business conference.
jameslab8470 December 23rd, 2008, 02:27 PM There's a little development on the airport. Kahit na konti lang, at least may deveopment. The runway is almost finished sa expansion nila. The terminal extension construction is already started. Slowly, pero surely.
When i arrived in butuan last 12-21, dami talaga tao. PAL was delayed. CEB was on time. Kaya when nag abot ang duha sa airport, maski cebu man lang ang byahe, daghan kaayo pasahero. PAL Express also used their Q400 during that day because of very hi demand. fully booked and dalawa. Progress? YES! naay progress! people are now considering air travel. Cheaper and more reliable! 1 thousand pesos round ticket and nabili ko. Compare it to the ferries. Wahehe

Dili bai. ang extension nga gisugdan wala makit an sa picture. naa siya sa left side sa picture, not shown. kanang gi construct nganha, actually dili siya building. murag naay gikalkal para naay ibutang na wire. Correct me is im wrong though. im not sure bai.
One thing that i also observed is that gikoralan na ang whole airport. gipasugdan na nila ang pag hollow blocks sa koral. Runway is almost finished. I just hope that they will put asphalt on it. Landing and takeing off in Butuan Airport is really uncomfortable. Murag feeling nimo mabuslot ang ligid. hehe

BOB-bXu December 28th, 2008, 09:42 AM NERBAC Caraga in full operation, braces for more business activities in 2009
By Mike U. Crismundo
BUTUAN CITY, Dec. 28 (PNA) -- The National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center (NERBAC) in Northeastern Mindanao (Caraga region) is in full operation and is now well on its way to operating as a full-fledged one-stop action, resource and assistance center by year 2009.
“We are on the move and we can already serve more businesses in the coming years,” declared by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Caraga.
NERBAC-Caraga has already beefed up its facilities needed to fully service business applicants and investors through its business registration and licensing (BRL) unit, knowledge management (KM) unit and investment marketing and facilitation (IMF) unit.
These functional divisions are anchored by full time staff from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) with some detailed staff from SSS, Pag-Ibig and PhilHealth reporting once a week.
NERBAC also maintains a strong network of technical working group members or focal persons from its more than 30 member agencies (including local government units) and an active set of NERBAC board of advisors.
The NERBAC business registration and licensing group has worked to discuss the different processes and requirements of all agencies involved in registration and licensing to establish the existing processing time which an applicant must go through or comply with to start a business.
NERBAC has also anchored a series of consultations to try to reduce time and other requirements to encourage more people to start their own enterprise.
In a statement, DTI Caraga said existing baseline processing time (excluding time spent by applicant to complete requirements, the inspections and other special licensing) stands at seven days and 47 minutes.
The CRL group has also strengthened its referral system to be able to attend to NERBAC applicants faster even if they are not physically present at the center, it said.
As a regional investment promotion unit, NERBAC's IMF has spearheaded an investment marketing and facilitation training for LGU and national government agency personnel involved in investment promotion, facilitated review and formulation of investment/incentive codes of LGUs and provided investment information and investor servicing to potential investors.
A strategic planning is slated early next year to tackle the region's investment agenda to work on the different functions of advocacy, image building/promotions, investment servicing/facilitation and investment targeting or generation.
NERBAC's Knowledge Management unit, on the other hand, has been building up its databases, the better to provide investors and entrepreneurs their information needs.
It has also coordinated several advocacy forums on competitiveness, public-private sector partnerships and the streamlining of business permit among LGUs.
By next year, it plans to set up a tracking mechanism for Caraga's leading economic development indicators.
This program is in line with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s full economic development program in the countryside, the statement added. (PNA)

BOB-bXu December 29th, 2008, 09:30 AM Sandiganbayan: Caraga, WVisayas have fewest gov’t scalawags; NCR has most
12/28/2008 | 10:35 PM
MANILA, Philippines – The Caraga Administrative Region and Western Visayas have the least corrupt government employees in the Philippines and Metro Manila has the most corrupt, at least according to three decades' worth cases filed with the Sandiganbayan, the country's special anti-graft court.
From 1979 to 2008, only 41 cases were filed against government officials from Caraga.
That region, also called Region 13, is composed of the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur; and the cities of Cabadbaran, Bayugan, Butuan, Surigao, and Bislig.
The country’s second cleanest region is Western Visayas, or Region 6, composed of the provinces of Iloilo, Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental. It posted only 936 cases filed in the last 30 years.
As can be expected, Metro Manila, where most of the government offices are located, posted the most number of public officials indicted for criminal charges at 6,841.
Sandiganbayan records listed the five least corrupt regions as:
• Caraga (Region 13): 41 cases
• Western Visayas (Region 6): 936
• Bicol (Region 5): 1,303
• Davao (Region 11): 1,362
• Central Mindanao (Region 12): 1,385
The four most corrupt regions are:
• Metro Manila (National Capital Region): 6,841
• Central Visayas (Region 7): 3,313
• Southern Tagalog (Region 4): 2,935
• Central Luzon (Region 3): 2,154
The Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao and the Cordillera Autonomous Region were not included in the Sandiganbayan report.
The same statistics from the court showed malversation cases were the most prevalent in government offices all over the country, accounting for 9,237 cases or 31.48 percent, followed by graft charges with 6,296 indictments or 21.45 percent, and falsification cases with 5,480 or 18.67 percent. - GMANews.TV

it is near DBP. facing First Consolidated Bank. BXU-GCP December 31st, 2008, 02:44 AM Aling Cora is a home grown ba ?
Yes. Lutong Bahay ni Aling Cora is a homegrown restaurant. I remember in the 90's they only have a few tables and they usually use the Charismatic Renewal Center at the back for the other customers that could not be accommodated. Tapos they expanded a little, medyo nice na ila mga tables. Till they were able to put up what they have now along R.Calo St. Of course many years later, they opened a branch in front of Gaisano. Although Chiken BBQ ila specialty, i like most their KINILAW.

regjeex January 5th, 2009, 09:16 AM Southwestern University eyes NSBC championship
Manila Times
1 January 2009 | 6:00 AM
The Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras seek to defend their title when the 63rd National Students Basketball Championship (NSBC) kicks off on February 23 to March 2, 2009 in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.
The tournament was organized by the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) under the leadership of BAP-Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas President Prospero “Butch” Pichay.
The proposed venue was already forwarded to Pichay for the final approval of the Board, which was initiated by BAP Regional Commissioner Pancho Camingue and Regional Director Joseph Gorme.
As part of the incentive given to the champions of the tournament, secondary level champions Benedictine International School of Quezon City (BIS) and collegiate champions SWU went to China to play in a series of goodwill games held in Fujian Province with BAP Region 7 Director Lorenzo Sy as the head of delegation.
Last year, SWU edged rival University of Visayas (UV) in the finals while University of San Carlos (USC) trounced University of Luzon (UL) 115-105 in the battle for third. USC and UL also earned roster slots in the 6th Asian University Basketball Championships that was held in Cebu City in July 2008 where Hua Qiao University of China emerged as champions.
In the high school level, BIS downed Pilgrim Christian College of Cagayan de Oro 83-79 following the heroics of tournament Most Valuable Player Clark “Tata” Bautista. Third-place honors went to UV Baby Lancers, who defeated University of Pangasinan 115-105.
The top two teams in the college level will be representing the Philippines in the 7th Asian University Basketball Championship in Manila this July 2009.

BOB-bXu January 6th, 2009, 04:13 AM Manila-based medicine distributor to expand in Mindanao
DAVAO CITY, Jan. 5 (PNA) -- A Manila-based medicine distributor will expand its operations in Mindanao after hitting 12,000 clients in Davao last year.
The Med Express which delivers medicines and milk formulas right at the clients’ doorsteps is putting up new stores in Davao City and other parts of Mindanao.
Med Express business development manager Carlo Lorenzana said from only one store servicing their clients in the city, they are putting up two more offices that will be servicing those in the northern and southern areas of Davao City.
He said they will open branches within the first quarter this year in the cities of Butuan and Cagayan de Oro.
Med Express already has over 200 stores all over the country servicing 200,000 clients. It has three franchise stores in Jakarta, Indonesia, he said.
Lorenzana said they are optimistic of the business in 2009 even as he said that they noted a 40-percent growth in 2008 as against their performance in 2007. (PNA)

regjeex January 7th, 2009, 12:03 PM Because they're the one responsible....some politicians man gud Bob are trying to run in a higher position because of their personal interest not for serving in public. So dili nato mabasol ang mga tao because gisaligan nila sila to make things and expect makahatang ug tabang to make our city and place success. We cannot blame them to react generally sa mga small and mid cities like Butuan na for how many decades still Butuan lang gihapon ug gamay ray kausaban. Murag kita raman cguro ang highly urbanized city na very snail ang pag uswag. Pero sa gihapon Bob nalipay ko na bisan hinay at least naa but then nag unsa man ang mga tao na nag work didto? nag ingkod ingkod lang ba sila mag dawat sa end of the month for their salaries and incentives or commissions? Daku baya og potential atong syudad. Take a look at Tagum pas pas ilang development. So unsa man ang reasons why ang BXU dili ka buhat sama sa uban small cities? Daghan jud questions Bob sa mga tao.

Butuan local bank " GREEN Bank " - Congratulations to Mr. Andaya...
More banks in Mindanao to open access to microentrepreneurs
http://www.businessmirror.com.ph/ind...ions&Itemid=71
ZAMBOANGA CITY—The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is assisting the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP) intensify effort to make banking services accessible to microentrepreneurs. The assistance is aimed to help 550 rural banking units and branches nationwide through the Microenterprise Access Banking Services (MABS), a program that originally hails from Mindanao.
The MABS program aims to increase the number microborrowers through participating rural banks by more than 375,000 within five years starting this year until 2013.
A total of 30 participating banks with more than 200 bank branches and satellite offices in Mindanao have already received training and technical assistance under the MABS program based on its September 2008 data.
MABS chief of party John Owens said Mindanao has experienced a growth in rural banking, noting that the island-region has reached a cumulative number of loans of P10.1 billion out of the overall P20.7 billion since the inception of the program.
Owens also said there has been a tremendous growth in deposits in Mindanao over the years with P797 million poured into these banks out of the P1.7 billion.
He said the rural banks are in a better position to weather the changes in the financial market by providing microfinance services and focus on deposit mobilization, especially with the apprehensions caused by the current global financial crunch.
The MABS-4 program will also work on expanding micro agrilending and conduct a market research with additional banks for a micro agriloan product.
The program will also initially work with small group of banks to develop and pilot housing microfinance products.
Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCo) chairman Virgilio Leyretana hopes that Mindanao would be able to get a large chunk of development support through the program’s assistance to rural banks and microfinance institutions in Mindanao, which are the conduit of many of “our micro, small and medium entrepreneurs.”
MABS-4 is implemented as one of the programs under the USAID’s Mindanao Peace and Development Fund, for which the MEDCo serves as the oversight implementing agency.
A total of 90 MABS participating banks, with 46 from Luzon and 14 from the Visayas, have already received technical assistance and training under the MABS program.
At present, these trained banks are providing microfinance services that include loans, deposits and money- transfer services through some 453 bank branches and satellite offices all over the country.
Leyretana said it is important to point out that USAID provides no loan funding for these banks and almost all the money for their lending activities come from deposits.
Data from the participating banks during the third-quarter shows that more than 34,000 new borrowers were provided with loans by Mindanao participating banks during the first nine months of the year with these banks now serving more than 67,300 active microborrowers, Leyretana disclosed.
The number of new microborrowers reached in Luzon and Visayas have also increased significantly over the past year with over 70,800 active microborrowers in Luzon and over 64,600 in the Visayas.
MABS will also continue to implement the mobile phone-banking services (MPBS) that was developed in 2004 in partnership with G-Xchange (GXI).
A web site was launched by RBAP with support from GXI at www.mobilephonebanking.rbap.org to highlight the services that the MABS program helped develop for rural banks.
The program will also support rural bank plans to pilot-test mobile phone-banking services using Smart Telecommunications--Smart Money platform in 2009.
MABS said banks and clients find significant advantages in MPBS because of reduced cost, security and convenience in accessing financial services as well as improve transparency, helps control fraud and reduces errors in transactions for rural banks.
More than 67,000 rural bank clients and employees have registered to use mobile phone banking services as of September 2008.
The MABS program began working with four banks in Mindanao in 1998. The program was expanded in 2001 under the leadership of the RBAP as the main implementer serving all regions of the country with participating banks in Mindanao serving as examples and models.
The First Valley Bank, founded in Lanao del Norte and one of the Mindanao participating banks during MABS’ first rollout in 1999, has opened its 16th branch in Zamboanga City.
The USAID reported that the bank grew from six to 16 branches and P260 million to P 2.04 billion in assets in 2007 with 68,000 client-micro-depositors.
First Valley Bank president Nicolas Lim said that the microfinance services allowed the bank to play an active role in poverty alleviation without sacrificing the profit motive.
In February, three out of the five MABS participating banks that were recognized as being among the top 100 microfinance institutions all over the world in terms of outreach to voluntary microdepositors were from Mindanao.
These banks included Green Bank, Cantilan Bank and the Cooperative Bank of Misamis Oriental.

What we can do is that, if we have some contacts/links with possible investors, we should try to sell to them the idea of doing business in Butuan. How will we facilitate? First kung mofit ang raw material requirement or business atmosphere sa Butuan sa ila investment, we can link them with DTI-Caraga and NEDA-Caraga, sometimes DA and DOST will also be needed. Kita magdala sa investment pasulod, dili sugoon ang mga politiko to do these kay makasab-an lang ta. he he he
Kung naa ka makuha nga possible investor, just send me a personal message dire kay tabangan ta ka paglink sa mga offices nga ako gi-mention.

actually Reg, there are tax holidays....investors are given tax free years when they qualify...its in the city's investment code..
that's why you see outsiders rather than the locals taking the bite into the local business scene....actually its the outside businessmen who are more keen of putting enterprise in the city....while the locals are just on a wait and see attitude and even on just too pessimistic and tapulan to get moving and make a contribution..

BOB-bXu January 8th, 2009, 09:38 AM Butuan hikes funding for social programs
by Malou Furia
Butuan City (7 January) -- The Integrated Social Development Assistance Program (ISDAP) started by Butuan City Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II in 1991, during his first term as Chief Executive, has now attained an allocation of 2.1 Million Pesos, which is eight times more than its initial annual budget of 250,000 pesos when it began. The funding has been increased constantly since its first implementation in 1991 to cater more indigents endorsed by the Barangays and further the program's mission of providing assistance to the poor.
The budget for the said program comes mainly from the 20% Development Fund of the City Mayor. In addition to this, Mayor Plaza was able to tap other fund sources such as the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) that provides medical assistance to indigents. Both Regional and National PCSO has extended financial support to the City amounting P500,000.00 this year.
For medical assistance, however, ISDAP only covers indigents who are non-barangay officials because there is a separate medical assistance/hospitalization benefit given by the City for barangay officials through a Sangguniang Panlungsod Resolution 3288-2007 in compliance to Section 393 of Republic Act 7160.
ISDAP is catering to the indigents of Butuan City who are in need of the following services: assistance for medicines, blood, hospital bill, laboratory bills, transportation, and burial.
Those needing the above mentioned services may approach Ms. Genara Yu at the Old Treasurer's Office, City Hall Grounds, Butuan City. (PIO-Butuan City/PIA-Caraga)

regjeex January 9th, 2009, 01:54 PM Regional stakeholders discuss effects of financial crisis
Butuan City (January 9) -- "The effects of the global financial crisis are already felt in the region."
This was openly disclosed by the business community during a public consultation on the Effects of Global Financial Crisis on Employment, Wages and Productivity hosted by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) held recently in one of the local hotels here.
During the consultation, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) presented the economic trends/indicators on labor and employment, prices of basic agri-fishery commodities, prices of prime commodities, investment, and macro-economic state of the region. The presentations revealed a slackening regional economy of the region.
Industry representatives also expressed concerns on how the crisis affected their operations. They disclosed that many of them, like the Agusan Plywood Corporation, Filipinas Palm Oil Plantation Inc. etc., are resorting to cost-cutting measures like no overtime and no hiring of casual employees, among others.
A city-wide survey conducted by the Butuan City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc, revealed that many businesses are wary of the effects of the crisis on their business operations. Some are either filing for bankruptcy or seeking capital assistance to stay liquid.
Industry leaders called for strong government policies and political will among local chief executives. While they acknowledged that no amount of economic policies could protect businesses from the crisis, they are advocating for unity of all sectors in mitigating the impact of the crisis.
The global financial crisis adversely affects the most vulnerable sectors of the country and may impact in the economic growth. NEDA Director General Ralph Recto already stressed the need to downscale growth target in 2009 between 4.1 and 5.1 percent.
To weather the effects of the crisis, the government is taking on strategies to boost growth. These include continued strong assistance for agriculture, more support to small and medium enterprises, and expansion of trade, investment, and tourism with countries that continue to have strong economies. Just recently, President Arroyo approved the P100-billion fund to pump-prime infrastructure projects in 2009 to create the best multiplier effects in generating jobs. (NEDA-Caraga/PIA-Caraga) [top]
regjeex January 9th, 2009, 01:58 PM TransCo bares cause of power outage in Caraga region
Butuan City (9 January) -- The National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) announced recently that four substation facilities of Northeastern Mindanao Area (NEMA) simultaneously tripped off at 8:21 on Tuesday, January 6 due to a strong lightning surge along Aplaya-Butuan 138-kilovolt transmission line brought about by the tail end of the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone.
The incident affected the Nasipit, Butuan, Placer, and San Francisco Substations serving power to electric cooperatives of MORESCO II, ANECO, ASELCO M2 and M3, SIARELCO, SURNECO, SURSECO II and industrial plants/offices of PACEMCO, ITC, WILMAR Edible Oils Philippine, Incorporated and NIA.
Areas affected were the cities of Gingoog, Butuan, and Surigao and the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte and part of Misamis Oriental and Surigao del Sur.
Power was restored back on the same night starting at 8:50, 8:51, 8:53, 8:58, 9:16, 9:05, 9:15, 9:22 in the evening, respectively to the above-mentioned substations and areas.
During the partial black-out, San Francisco Substation experienced abnormalities compelling to re-tap power supply for ASELCO and SURSECO II to Bislig Substation via an installed air break switch (ABS) at Barobo, Surigao del Sur.
Moreover, on Wednesday, January 7 at 5:37 in the morning, power delivery to ASELCO and SURSECO II was sourced back from San Francisco Substation. Subsequently, said substation resumes to its normal operation.
Meanwhile, TransCo's power transmission service to Surigao del Norte I Electric Cooperative, Incorporated was also briefly interrupted on January 6 and 7 to facilitate re-tapping and sourcing back of power supply from San Francisco to Bislig Substation and vice versa.
Further, for these service interruptions, there were no findings of any line fault along the transmission lines within the CARAGA Region and part of the provinces of Misamis and Davao Oriental, which are within the area coverage of TransCo-NEMA based in Butuan City. BOB-bXu January 11th, 2009, 05:36 AM Clean and Green : Langihan Lagoon
the Langihan Lagoon got its sodium sidewalk lights and railings installed. It remains free of trash despite its very close proximity to Taboa-an and Langihan public markets in the area. The lagoon also serve to siphon run-off water from area's drainage system.

BOB-bXu January 11th, 2009, 11:03 AM Butuan allocates Php 15M budget for livelihood projects
BUTUAN CITY, Jan. 11 (PNA) -– In an effort to uplift the economic condition of far-flung villagers, particularly cooperatives, the city government allocated Php15 million fund as livelihood assistance this year.
“Poverty alleviation is our primary concern this year,” said City Mayor Democrito “Big Boy” Plaza 11.
He added: “The city’s thrust is to give our people the chance to access livelihood programs to augment family’s financial resources”.
The city government, through the City Cooperative Enterprise Development (CCED), was already given the “green signal” to allocate livelihood assistance as livelihood support fund to barangay cooperatives, he said.
Mayor Plaza said every bonafide cooperative with double proposal submitted will be thoroughly evaluated and initial capital of Php 150,000 will be released to them to fund their identified projects, after thoroughly evaluated.
This project is covered by Executive Order No. 163-2008, he said.
At least 51 barangay cooperatives has already successfully complied all documentary requirements awaiting release within this year, said CCED Chief Mr. Mario Maputi.
He added the CCED is currently conducting skills training on various small and medium enterprises.
Meanwhile, the Integrated Social Development Assistance Program (ISDAP) started by Mayor Plaza since 1991 has now attained an allocation of Php2.1 million.
The budget for such program comes mainly from the 20 percent development fund of the city mayor.
Apart from this program, both regional and national Philippine Charity Sweepstakes has also extended financial support to the city amounting Php500,000 this year, it was also gathered.
ISDAP program only covers indigents that needs medical assistance, hospital bill, laboratory bills, transportation and burial, it was learned. (PNA)
