gujalex February 3rd, 2009, 01:13 PM This is a good news for our beloved farmers... :)
Gov’t gives land to 5,104 farmers
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
BUTUAN CITY — At least 5,104 landless farmers from the five provinces of Northeastern Mindanao (Caraga Region) have received land titles from the regional office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) under the "Handog Titulo ni Pangulong GMA" program.
In his report to DENR Secretary Jose "Lito" L. Atienza, Jr., Northeastern Mindanao Regional Executive Director Edilberto S. Buiser said that "the initiative is a continuing effort of the DENR in the region to distribute patents to the farmers to accomplish the target of the President."
He said the four Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Offices (PENROs) and thirteen Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENROs) all over the region are still processing land title patents for landless farmers, particularly for the indigenous people.
Buiser said that last year, the DENR targeted to distribute more than 9,000 patents, covering 11,696 hectares of agricultural lands, but the agency was only able to distribute some 5,104 patents to the different landless people in the provinces of Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur, with a total area of 5,188 hectares or an average of one hectare of agricultural land per individual.
Paquito R. Rosal, regional technical director for Land Management Services, said the DENR expects to accomplish the remaining balance of its target before the end of the first quarter of this year.
Buiser said land distribution will be one of the main focus of the anti-poverty and anti-hunger campaign of the DENR.
Under the Poverty Reduction and Hunger Mitigation program of President Arroyo, the DENR will distribute about 187,389 patents covering 159,503 hectares of land throughout the country this year.
"We are going full blast on patent distribution to reach our target," the DENR land management official said.
Buiser has issued instructions to the PENROs and CENROs in the provinces and six cities of Caraga Region to get an update of all active projects on watershed areas.
"Through the distribution of lands which is being pushed through the Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program (AHMP) of President Arroyo, the poor people from the rural areas will have the opportunity to be free from the shackles of poverty because they can now till their own lands," said Buiser.
He instructed the 13 CENROs to provide an all-out "logistics and moral support" to all personnel in land services to achieve the said target.
Newly promoted PENRO Rosendo A. Asunto is set to distribute more land patents this year in the ten municipalities of Agusan del Norte and Butuan City.

BOB-bXu February 3rd, 2009, 03:07 PM I guess it will take long before they'll start the construction coz a lot of projects are now in queue. 4 of them are in the Visayas ( Dumaguete, Tacloban and 2 malls and cybergate to rise in Cebu.) Naa pa'y GenSan diay. Cge lang, we'll just wait for butuan's turn.
the construction of their Dumaguete project went into a drag after several revisions..Rob Dum...is one of the first developments in their expansion batch....RLC is now starting to construct their Ilocos outlet in partnership with a local enterprise....the Tacloban mall has top off too and Gensan is going on with very minimal work slippage...all the first batch is now ongoing...
now lets wait when will the shovels ploughs the land banks of RLCs second batch...

Guj...This is exactly what I told you in my PM to you to expect negative views on this project from of our kababayan there. :ohno:
gujalex February 3rd, 2009, 04:12 PM Its okay kuya power.. others just tend to look at the negative side which also affects their life's cycle coz they rather attract negative vibes rather than attracting the positive ones. All I/We do is to serve the people who badly needs our services.

BOB-bXu February 4th, 2009, 09:07 AM Butuan CENRO gets promotion as full-fledged PENR Officer
by Herzon F. Gallego
Butuan City (4 February) -- DENR Regional Executive Director for Caraga Region Edilberto S. Buiser has announced yesterday the appointment of CENRO Rosendo A. Asunto into a full-fledged Provincial Environment and Natural Officer with assignment in Agusan del Norte per approved appointment dated December 23, 2008 issued by Secretary Lito Atienza, Jr. He was sworn into office by RED Buiser on Monday this week.
At the same time, Director Buiser also announced the immediate reassignment of OIC CENR Officer for Bunawan, Agusan del Sur Eutiquio M. Bade,Jr. to his new post as OIC CENR Officer for Surigao City. Bade has replaced CENRO Ulpiano D. Dasilao who has been assigned to Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.
The movement of key personnel in the field was necessary as continuing efforts of improving the services to the people in line with the priority programs of DENR Secretary Atienza, this year.
Buiser said the regular Peoples Hour which is held every Thursday of each week from 9 am to 12 Noon has resumed last January 15 after it was suspended in December 15 due to the long vacation break on Yuletide season.
The People's Hour Forum serves as a good venue and opportunity for the people in the far-flung areas to bring in their unresolved issues and concerns on environment to the Regional Executive Director so that it can be acted upon.
Until his promotion, Asunto has been serving as the Officer-In-Charge of the Provincial Environment and Natural Office of Agusan del Norte since October 21, 2005. He was named one of the top performing PENR officers by the top management of the DENR for his achievement when he exceeded the target of patent distribution given them in the SONA of the President on June 2007.
PENRO Asunto said that the strengthening of the on-going the anti-illegal logging and mining campaign, reforestation and establishing strong linkages with the LGUs to promote the protection and conservation of the environment are among the major programs that will be given emphasis this year by the PENR Agusan del Norte office. regjeex February 4th, 2009, 10:47 AM CSC clarifies rule on rationalization
Butuan City (4 February) -- State employees whose posts are abolished under Executive Order No. 366 or the rationalization plan can opt to stay in government or avail of the generous separation package. This was clarified yesterday by Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chair Ricardo L. Saludo. The CSC chief also cautioned government employees against irresponsible alarmists who only create an atmosphere of confusion and dissent.
Under the law, affected personnel with permanent or temporary appointment who would opt to remain in government service shall be placed in other agencies by the CSC where additional personnel are required. Affected personnel, with appointments attested by the CSC, whether hired on a permanent or temporary basis, who would opt to retire or be separated from the service shall be given the option to avail themselves of retirement schemes.
The CSC Chief also pointed out that police, teachers and health worker posts will not be affected by the Executive Order 366. "Initially, those affected by the reorganization will stay with CSC until they are reassigned to their new posts," Chair Saludo expressed.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed in 2004 Executive Order No. 366, "Directing A Strategic Review of the Operations and Organizations of the Executive Branch and Providing Options and Incentives for Government Employees Who May Be Affected by the Rationalization of the Functions and Agencies of the Executive Branch."
The law directs agencies to prepare a rationalization plan to identify posts that are redundant/outdated or no longer relevant to the accomplishment of the major final outputs of the particular agency. The review of agency operations and structure also aim to improve the quality and efficiency of government services. (CSC-13/PIA-Caraga) [top]
regjeex February 4th, 2009, 10:48 AM DENR chief relieves CENRO in Bayugan, Agusan del Sur
by Herzon F. Gallego
Butuan City (3 February) -- Citing health reason, CENRO Jaime C. Acebu's request for relief of assignment from Bayugan, Agusan del Sur has been considered by DENR Regional Executive Director Edilberto S. Buiser following the issuance on Friday of an order transferring his assignment to Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte.
In his stead, CENRO Raul A. Rosales took over as CENR Officer of Bayugan as contained in the Regional Special Order No. 2009-28 dated January 29,2009.
The swap of assignment of key field personnel is part of the on-going process being made by the top management to effectively and efficiently deliver without disruption of the basic services to the people in the rural areas
The latest round of reshuffle CENR officers is expected to shake off the personnel involved in the anti-illegal logging and mining activities to bring out only the best to improve the campaign in accordance with the one-strike policy of Secretary Lito Atienza, Jr.' Director Buiser said.
According to CENRO Acebu, that although it can be interpreted as " wrong -timing " nevertheless, his request for relief of post since last year has finally been granted.
"At least, I am relieved of stress and pressure from work that can affect my poor health condition as I looked forward to my retirement from the government service few months from now, " he added.
Director Buiser said, the reassignment of Acebu should be viewed as a right decision for the management to give the official with light assignment considering his health problem.
He said Rosales has been recommended to take over the post of Acebu in Bayugan, which is considered as one of the exit points of timber smuggling in Agusan del Sur.
Both CENR officers have been directed to strengthen their capabilities in stopping the illegal logging and mining activities in their respective area of responsibility. (DENR-13/PIA-Caraga) [top]

jsl_bxu1206 February 5th, 2009, 05:20 AM Govt begins Agusan power barge sale after bidding failure last year
02/04/2009 | 02:46 PM
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine government has begun accepting bids for an Agusan del Norte power barge after an auction for the same facility failed last year.
Until February 12, 2009, the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (Psalm) will accept letters of interest from foreign and local investors who intend to run and manage PB 117, barge-mounted bunker fired diesel 100 megawatt (mW) power station.
“Interested parties must execute a confidentiality agreement and undertaking with the government power firm, and pay a non-refundable participation fee of $2,000," the government’s investor relations office said in a statement.
Deadline for these requirements is on Friday, 13 February.
A pre-bid conference has been set for prospective bidders on February 18 while the bid submission deadline has been set for April 15.
Part of the sale conditions of the power barge is that the facility should remain in its current location for at least three years, Psalm said in its invitation to bid documents.
From October 1 to October 3 last year, the same facility was offered up for sale but the bidding was declared a failure owing to a lack of investor interest, Psalm said.
In a separate development, two investor groups have signified interest in bidding for the 55 mW Naga Land-Based Gas Turbine Power Plant located in Cebu I Power Plant Complex, Barrio Colon, Naga, Cebu.

Govt begins Agusan power barge sale after bidding failure last year
02/04/2009 | 02:46 PM
The two Filipino investor groups have completed PSALM’s preparatory requirements for the Naga power plant bidding. - GMANews.TV

jsl_bxu1206 February 7th, 2009, 09:33 AM Discovering the Ancient Kingdom of Butuan
By Leahliz A. Sia Updated February 04, 2009 12:00 AM
Being an active member of JCI Zugbuana, an all-female Jaycees chapter, I am assigned for 2009 to build a pool of trainers for the chapter. Thus, one rainy weekend in January, a Cebu delegation from JCI Zugbuana headed off to Butuan City to attend a Jaycees train-the-trainer program being offered there.
During the last day of our three-day training, our group finished early so we were able to go around Butuan for a quick city tour (it helped that there was virtually no traffic wherever we went!). Our unofficial tour guide, Vice Mayor Dino Sanchez, shared that they have recently packaged Butuan to tourists as an “ancient kingdom” due to the fact that as early as the 10th century, Butuan chieftains had already been trading with Chinese merchants, and Butuan was a major trading port.
The city of Butuan, the regional administrative center of Caraga strategically linking the intra and inter-regional centers/areas of northern and southern Mindanao, is located at the northeastern part of Agusan Valley sprawling across the mighty Agusan River. “Butuan” is a term believed to have originated from the sour fruit “batuan”. Natives claim that it came from a certain Datu Buntuan, a chieftain who once ruled Butuan. Scholars believed that it came from the Visayan word “but-an”, which means a person who has sound and discerning disposition. Butuan’s history, culture, arts and people date back to the 4th century as showcased in several museums around the city which makes Butuan an exciting source of cultural artifacts in Mindanao.
Our first stop was the New Magsaysay Bridge crossing the powerful Agusan River. Also called a Lover’s Bridge due to the place being a popular date spot, it gave us a glimpse of surrounding territories of Butuan. The Agusan River is the biggest and longest river in Mindanao. A cruise along the river barangays reveals so much of Butuan‘s history, culture, art, and people, and as a tribute to the Patroness of the Agusan River Sta. Ana – the Abayan Festival was born, a day-long celebration of baroto races and fluvial procession at the Agusan River.
Our next stop was the BOOD Promontory 1st Easter Mass Eco Park. This historic site is where Magellan and his men erected a cross and celebrated the 1st Mass on Philippine Soil on March 31, 1521. It is the highest elevation and promontory overlooking the whole of Butuan bay then. Today, the indigenous “Hadlayati tree” still abounds, lording over a Clonal nursery and tree park, and the serpentine Masao River (El Rio de Butuan) amidst fishponds and archaeological treasures.
Next we proceeded to the Balangay Shrine Museum. Just 5 kilometers from the city proper lies the graveyard of the Balangay tribe dated 320 A.D. or 1678 years old. This wooden plank-built and edge-pegged boat averages 15 meters in length and 3 meters wide across the beam. To date, nine balangays have already been discovered in Ambangan, Libertad sites. Three have been excavated and others are still in situ.
Another museum we checked out was the Butuan National Museum. This museum is the repository of historical and cultural materials and artifacts that proves Butuan’s prehistoric existence and rich cultural heritage. There are two exhibit galleries. The Archaeological Hall and Ethnological Hall Specimens hold the exhibits of stone crafts, metal crafts, woodcrafts, potteries, goldsmithing, burial coffins, and other archaeological diggings. At the Ethnological Hall is the exhibit of contemporary cultural materials the Butuanon uses for daily living.
We didn’t have time to visit these places, but we were told these are must places to drop by while in Butuan for their history and culture:
Mount Mayapay – Looming southwest of the Agusan Valley is this majestic mountain plateau located 2,214 feet above sea level. Mount Mayapay obtained its name from the ancient Madjapahit Empire. The history behind the Sri-Vishaya period bears much meaning and influence of Butuan’s pre-historic and archeological discoveries.
Banza Church Ruins – This site was an old poblacion. The church built here in 1625 by the Recollect Friars was reduced into ashes in 1753 by Moro pirates. What remains of this church is its bell tower beside a banyan (balete) tree. Today, it is the oldest ruin of a stone church in the entire island of Mindanao.
Magellan’s Landing Site – Every year on March 31, the city celebrates “MAZAUA DISCOVERY DAY” to commemorate a historic milestone, the 1st Easter Mass on Philippines Soil celebrated with Ferdinand Magellan on March 31,1521. The Butuanons proclaim with pride that such a historic event took place in Butuan, not in Limasawa.
Nipa Wine Distillery – “Laksoy” is a local wine made out of indigenous Nipa palm that abounds in Butuan. It goes through the process of fermentation from a crudely made vat only a native Butuanon can ingenuously produce. “Laksoy” is definitely one of the best tasting local wines in the island.
During our stay in Butuan, we were also able to drop in at popular local establishments for good food and drinks, such as Margie’s (great pasta and desserts), Weegol’s (famous for its lechon manok), Uncle Sam’s (great bulalo, gives Abuhan in Cebu some competition!) Woodstock (well-known bar with live bands and DJs; also try their local Gigolo drink, the best!). We also highly recommend the hotel we stayed in, the well-appointed Balanghai Hotel & Convention Center. It has a Filipiniana theme, with spacious guest rooms; a fantastic room therapeutic massage service; and costs only PHP1, 000 per night.
To our pleasant surprise, we ended up having a great time in Butuan City, enriched by the lessons from our trainings, the beauty of the places we visited, and the warm friendships we made during out stay.
Daghang salamat, JCI Butuan Frontier!

BISHOPS RETIRE IN BUTUAN
by: Rene C Vargas
ARCHBISHOP CARMELO DOMINADOR FLORES MORELOS of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga, retired in November last year, and he chose to spend the autumn of his life ngani Butuan. Born on December 11, 1930 in Sorsogon City, he still looks hale and sprightly today, fully recovered it seems from the coronary by-pass surgery at the Philippine Heart Center in 1991. He most certainly still delivers incisive homilies, and will continue to do so for many more years.
His first assignment as Bishop was in the then newly created Diocese of Butuan some 40 years ago. Over the years, he developed a deep attachment to Butuan and its people. This attachment, he says, is the reason he chose Butuan as his place of retirement.
He was City's first Bishop when the Diocese of Butuan came into being in 1967. He continued to occupy the position until 1995 when he left us to become the Archbishop of Zamboanga. There are some of us ngani Butuan who hoped that he would become a Cardinal based in Mindanao. But age caught up with him. At age 75, he submitted his customary resignation to the Pope who did not approve his resignation until November 13, 2006. He has since resided ngani Butuan. He continues to be loved and looked up to with respect by the faithful among his flock.
Archbishop Morelos became a priest in 1954 after finishing the course at the seminary of Our Lady of Penafranca in Sorsogon City. He took further studies in Philosophy and Theology at the University of Santo Tomas in 1947 - 1954.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
BISHOP CARLOS VON OUWELANT also chose to retire ngani Butuan. Prior to his retirement, he was the Bishop of Surigao. The Diocese of Surigao, based in Surigao City, then included Butuan and the provinces of Caraga Region. He chose to spend the remaining years of his life ngani Butuan until his death 4 years ago. He chose Butuan over his home country - Holland. He was of the religious order of the Missionary of the Sacred Heart.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
What is it ngani Butuan that makes it the retirement haven of choice by these eminent personalities? Both were not even Butuan-born? Archbishop Morelos is a Bicolano, while Bishop Von Ouwelant was a Dutch national. It has been said that it takes an outsider to see the bigger picture. If so, then perhaps there is indeed more ngani Butuan that the Bishops saw that some Butuanons fail to appreciate.

hi regjeex.thanks for the welcome.:)
re; the Fatima, i dont know if Butuan has a Fatima shrine (i think the city has none). I posted the info because i feel the pride (i hope the Butuanons and Mindanaoans feel the same as well) to be visited by this famous icon of the church. In Mindanao, (based on info i secured), the image will only be brought in Butuan and Digos. I know the image that will be brought here is only a replica of the original statue which is in Fatima, Portugal (for secuirty reasons hehe!), for me it's already a big priviledge. We are in a predominantly Catholic country and this icon is important to the history of the church.
I remembered the late great Pope John Paul II paid a visit to the Fatima after the assassination attempt on him.Truly, this image has worldwide historical significance.

regjeex February 9th, 2009, 11:08 AM Erbil is part of KURDISTAN government... 4 practices kse ang meron ang Iraq...
Kita ko sa CNN man gyud about ana nga place, they called it "the other iraq"..
kay kusog daw ang progress ug mas safe.

hi regjeex.thanks for the welcome.:)
re; the Fatima, i dont know if Butuan has a Fatima shrine (i think the city has none).
I remembered the late great Pope John Paul II paid a visit to the Fatima after the assassination attempt on him.Truly, this image has worldwide historical significance.
jsl_bxu1206 February 9th, 2009, 11:17 AM Abi siguro nga ang Caraga Square buwangan, hehehe:lol:

regjeex February 9th, 2009, 11:26 AM ZNext Mining to Open Its XYZ Gold Processing & Refinery
CHEYENNE, WY--(MARKET WIRE)--Feb 2, 2009 -- ZNext Mining Industries, Inc. with OTC.PK Stock Symbols: (Other OTC:ZNXT.PK - News) (OTC Preferred: ZNXPP) announced today that its XYZ Gold Processing Plant in XYZ Masbate Island will be open in the next 180 days. Attached is the perspective view of the ZNXT Processing & Gold Refinery capable of producing about 15+ ounces of gold per metric tons of ores per day.
Source: ZNext Mining Corporation
XYZ Plant 200 tons/day capacity
The XYZ Gold Team of ZNXT has designed a unique gold processing plant, enhanced with copper floatation technology, that fits best to the production of gold, silver, copper and other precious metals, and that complies with the environmental requirements. The design is to produce high gold quality based on fast, enhanced and increased production efficiency, reliability and better productivity.
XYZ team worked on the mining permits during the last quarter of 2008. An examination of the property was made to determine the current status of the known gold showings and road access, assisted in planning and budgeting of the 2009 fieldwork program. ZNXT is budgeting an estimated $75,000.00 USD for the Phase I Exploration Stage of its XYZ Gold Project. This six-month developmental period from February to August, 2009 Phase 1 Budget Estimate Covers: (a) Grid and soil sample collection about 7+ kilometers; (b) Extensive gold geological mapping, supervision, project management, prospecting and report writing; (c) Soil sample assays, collecting and packaging 1 tonne bulk sample; (d) Permitting, mapping and drafting costs; (e) Development of the Bayombon XYZ Satellite office; (f) Constructing of the enhanced Gold Processing Plant (200MT/day operation); (g) Securing the ECC (Environmental Compliance Certification), MPSA , Mining Permits and Legal Fees; (h) Constructing of on-site Laboratory & Equipments; (i) Constructing of Bunk Housing Infrastructure -- on Site Field Office; (j) Access road Development; (k) Purchasing of at least 4 Multi-Cab 4X4 Vehicles.
ZNXT further announces that effective January 28, 2009, the new governance and corporate re-organization action included the following: (a) incorporation of ZNXT in the Philippines; (b) assignment of the Pearl Asian Mining Industries' 100% of all its Philippines gold project and XYZ Mining interests to ZNXT Mining, thus commencing the XYZ Gold Project for full exploration and development; (c) appointment of George Carpio as the new CEO/President, Dennis Bravs, Corp. Secretary and Jun Oliva as the XYZ Chief Liaison; (d) Relocation of the mining office in XYZ Bayombon, Masbate Island; (e) relocation of its Corp. Headquarter to Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte, Mindanao managed by Jerry Burdeos as the new CFO & Business Administrator.
CEO George Carpio said that he expects to see a greater production and the start of revenue generation by the end of this year and thereafter, as the company is initiating towards the full capacity of ZNXT Mining. The XYZ Gold development is responding to the global economic demand for gold and silver production as a hedge to our current inflationary recession period!
"ZNXT Management is very excited to see this first stage of development come to pass, after so many, many obstacles encountered by the company during the past 18 months; we pray to finally fulfill the promised added value to our shareholders' stake holding interests, while we get to the enhancement and completion of our new website," exclaimed CEO Carpio.

regjeex February 9th, 2009, 11:32 AM Hama draws raves
By Marge C. Enriquez

STEAMED from a clay pot, a clear broth with bits of chicken, shrimps, mushrooms, boiled eel, spinach and leeks called chawanmushi is served atop crushed ice. Red snapper is exquisitely styled like a crown on a Japanese plate. Plated on a bed of tossed greens, the salmon is accompanied by hot jalapeño dressing.
Traditional Japanese cooking is an uncluttered art. But trust the Pinoy to infuse his penchant for embellishment, however tame, while maintaining reverence to the Japanese sensibility of harmony and embracing nature. That is the style of Hama, the Japanese restaurant in Boracay concocted by scion Juan Elizalde, restaurateur Paolo Elizalde and chef Robbie Goco. Located at the center of D’Mall, just below Tides Hotel, Hama has been attracting a large tourist market.
Hama, which means “seashore” in Nippongo, has been drawing raves from patrons for its modern interpretation of the cuisine. Manning the kitchen is executive chef Jimmy Cuenca, who has worked in Japan for 13 years and at the executive lounge of Nippon Steel in Butuan City. He started out in the pantry of the original Jollibee restaurant in Cubao in 1976 and has honed his skills in Continental, Chinese and Filipino restaurants.

guys, regaring tricycles ba...don't you know that by virtue of a national law on safety that restricts trikes and slow moving vehicles from national highways...the city council is compelled to restrict the whole stretch of North and South Montila Blvds from tricycles ...(Montilla Blvd. North and South is a primary national highway being part of the BXU-Bukidnon Road)
however due to reasons, they could not enforce fully the law on trikes using this wide boulevard..

I can always remember when this building was just conceived....the original plan was to have a commercial arcade occupying the area where Rosario's and a few shops now stand...the area adjacent to this building too where ABAFI used to be located was also intended for a big building similar to the one above..
jsl_bxu1206 February 9th, 2009, 12:01 PM Guys, what happened to the plan of putting up a DO Plaza Shopping Mall along JC Aquino Ave? Naka-remember ko nga dako pa kaayo to ang signage nga gibutang sa una, mga 1996 pa siguro to.
BOB-bXu February 9th, 2009, 12:04 PM National highway na diay na ang montilla blvd Bob?
yup...national highway na siya....looking at its flow now, mixed-up ang mga sakyanan sa Montilla Blvd....heavy trailers are obliged to use Montilla en route to the by pass highway...cargo trucks also of Gothong, Otis and Dy Teban are also using Montila...addedd to that jeeps plying AD Curato via Montilla turning right to Aquino...plus your hundreds of trikes...plus private vehicles....looks this thoroughfare is the most abused in the city now...

I think it was shelved due to justified reason.....by building a mall owned by the mayor's family WOuld send a bad signal to other private commercial developers... as a mayor's enterprise will be competing head-on with these companies they are the ones trying to invite to set shop here in BXU...so they
abandon their plan
BOB-bXu February 9th, 2009, 12:09 PM Wow sino ba ang nag top jan Bob?
dunno who won Reg...nice mga moves oh....murag walay backbone ang mga dancers ^^
regjeex February 9th, 2009, 12:09 PM Yup! that's right... i think he'll plan to continue those shoping center by the end of his term again... or once the opponent will surely win next election i think that's the time they will put those mall up...hehehe

BOB-bXu February 9th, 2009, 12:13 PM Hmmm...corporate headquarter gyud diay ang naa sa atoa.
yup..they could not set up mines in the city precisely there are no mineral deposits of commercial size that can be mined underneath the city's territory..
the city however would serve as corporate headquarters though due to the existence of allied facilities such as airport and other urban amenities

Butuan’s Historical Balanghai Boat to Circumnavigate Again the World
February 9, 2089
BUTUAN CITY- The historical wooden boat which did not used any single nails and built in a lashed lug technique believed to have been used by Malay settlers in their vast sea travel during prehispanic times will be used again to circumnavigate the World.
This time, the Philippine’s Mount Everest team with tourism officials and scientists composed of Leo Oracio, Ervin Pastor Ermita, Noel Winceslao, Karina Dayondon, Janet Belarmino-Sardina, Dr. Ted Esguerra, Fred Jamili and Dr. Walter Villasco will circumnavigate the World using the remodeled ancient Balanghai Boat.
Dubbed as Voyage Balanghai, Department of Tourism undersecretary Art Valdez who served as RP’s Mt. Everest Team Captain will accompany his team with experienced master sailors who will assist the team’s voyage.
Valdez said they will start their voyage in Manila this year, hoping that by next year, the group will already circumnavigate Southeast Asian nations.
By 2011, Voyage Balnaghai is expected to reach Micronesian nations and Madagascar as they will continue to navigate the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans by 2012 and hopefully be back n the Philippines by 2013.
“The ancient Balanghai Boat is not only environment-friendly but we can also show to the World the Filipinos and Butuanons’ expertise in sea travel even before the Spaniards and Europeans came to our shores” Valdez said.
Used by the Filipino seafarers and traders in sea trading with China then, the Balanghai has definitely debunked the claim that before the coming of the Spaniards Philippines had no contacts with the outside world.
The ancient vessel then was about 15 to 18 meters in length was mentioned in Pigafetta’s account in their 1521 voyage when Magellan’s voyage reached the Philippine shores.
In 1977, local Butuan historian Adolfo Busa Sanchez wrote in his book “1521 Limasawa” that the “balanghai” is more of a royal family boat. It is large enough to house the entire family of a datu or rajah.
“It can be converted into a warboat and it has a capacity of from 25 to 30 passengers or warriors. It is a kind of a boat about 15 to 17 meters long, built on its sides like a wine cask, with strips of timber planks fastened by strong wooden dowels. This boat is so constructed that it can be utilized to easily navigate along narrow waterway such as rivers and big stream, and it could also be used as a fishing boat in the open sea during fair weather”.
In late 1976, Butuan Boat 1 was discovered near the east bank of the Libertad River in Barangay Libertad here. Then in 1977, Boat 2 was found about a kilometer southwest of the first site
The National Museum excavated and conserved three boats (Boat 1 in 1976, Boat 2 in 1978, and Boat 5 in 1986), despite the furious commercial digging activities for imported ceramics in the mid 1970s and later for processed gold.
The radiocarbon (C-14) tests on the three boats (numbered according to the order of their discovery) gave the following results
Boat 1 1630+-110 years 320 AD, Boat 2 700+-790 years 1250 AD, Boat 5 900+-70 years 900AD and throughout Southeast Asia and the world, it is only in the Philippines where a flotilla of such prehistoric wooden boats are known to exist.

the city however would serve as corporate headquarters though due to the existence of allied facilities such as airport and other urban amenities

gujalex February 9th, 2009, 12:20 PM They've made a better conclusions... You know, business people and also the other masses would really react if they do so.
I think it was shelved due to justified reason.....by building a mall owned by the mayor's family WOuld send a bad signal to other private commercial developers... as a mayor's enterprise will be competing head-on with these companies they are the ones trying to invite to set shop here in BXU...so they
abandon their plan

NO such local law exists that limits heights of structures....however it is not allowed near Bancasi due to the presence of the airport...
Butuan by the way hosts the tallest transmitter tower in Mindanao....the DXJM radio owned before by PACIFIC broadcasting Corp. in Villa Kanangga
