Butuan City Comelec lists over 17,000 new voters

by Jocelyn Morano

Butuan City (16 June) -- A total of 136,610 voters have been registered by the Commission on Elections in Butuan City as of April 20, that's a 1% increase compared to the total number of voters registered in 2007 elections that totals 154,553 voters.

This figure was the latest after it was being approved by the Election Registration Board the 17,943 new registrants after COMELEC resumed the continuing registration of voters in December 2, 2008 as part of preparations for the 2010 elections.

The approved current list of voters according to City Comelec Officer Abelardo Saco has already been cleansed, and is therefore deactivated names of those who are dead, transferred and failed to vote twice in previous elections.

In a day, the City Comelec Office served 170 to 180 new voters and personnel were directed to adopt a system of processing applications to speed up the registration process, minimize queuing and avoid inconvenience as the office only has 1 capturing data machine to get the registrants' biometrics data like photographs, signatures and thumb marks.

Mr. Saco urged any person, who has not yet reached the required voting age or period of residence on the day of registration but will possess the same on or before the day of election (May 10, 2010 national and local elections) to register as a voter.

He said the registration of voters ends on October 31, 2009. (dxBN-Radyo ng Bayan-Butuan/PIA-Caraga)

Butuan Medical Center, MJ Santos Hospital identified as holding areas for suspected A(H1N1) patients

by Jocelyn Morano

Butuan City (16 June) -- The Department of Health has approved the city governments proposal to designate Butuan Medical Center and MJ Santos Hospital as holding areas for all suspected A(H1N1) patients.

Provincial Administrator Atty. Webb Racaza explained, that the proposal was not made to defy DOH guidelines in establishing a common hospital to treat A(H1N1) patients but rather to provide convenience and immediate medical attention to concerned individuals who has not yet been confirmed of the disease.

The DOH-Caraga has designated the Caraga Regional Hospital in Surigao City as the Regional Satellite Referral Hospital to handle the treatment and confinement of any confirmed victim of the Influenza A (H1N1) in the region.

Atty. Racaza stressed, their suggestion came after news of suspected individuals and there was an unavailability of ambulances to transport the patients to Surigao City.

"Said health protocol in addressing suspected A(H1N1) patients are putting the drivers of ambulances at risk in addition to the risk already faced by the patient himself due to the distance of Surigao City", added Atty. Racaza.

The Provincial Administrator assured the public, Butuan Medical Center has its own medical facility ready to accept cases of suspected Influenza A (H1N1) in case Butuan City or its neighboring provinces will have a case.

BCMC has reserved 1 isolation room from its 2 TB rooms to accommodate any Influenza A (H1N1) suspected patient.

As part of the preparedness contingency plan Butuan City government finished last week the trainings for all barangay health personnel and have trained nurses who can take care of suspected A/H1N1 patients.

The newly acquired personnel protection equipment like mask, goggles, gowns, digital thermal thermometers and even medicines have arrived.

Health personnel were likewise instructed to undergo self quarantine in case they found patients positive of the flu virus to prevent from spreading to their families.

The city government of Butuan allocated half a million for the procurement alone of the needed protection equipment.

A Task Force was also created and conducted massive information campaign to residents and students and provided handouts. (dxBN-Radyo ng Bayan-Butuan/ PIA-Caraga)

Agusan del Norte hailed Caraga's top province

by Jocelyn Morano

Butuan City (June 16) -- June 17, 1967 was the day the Agusan was divided into 2 provinces known as Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur by virtue of Republic Act 4979.

After 42 years, Governor Earlpy John Amante proudly announced that despite as having the smallest Internal Revenue allotment (IRA) caraga wide and declared the smallest province, it became the number 1 province in the region.

"However, this was never attributed to the provincial official's good leadership but it was because of the decision made by the people and the leaders early on to shape its own destiny", said Governor Amante.

Staying on top according to the Governor is a daunting task, and competing with the best provinces in the whole Philippines is not that easy, much more to sustain what has become of the province after 42 years.

After the opening program held at the provincial capitol Governor Amante proceeded to the business park to formally open the week-long Agro Fair where he treated all attendees with Filipino foods put on sale and even bought vegetables and fruits produced by farmers from 11 municipalities.

Agusan del Norte boasts of its local produce. The investment areas range from industrial centers to service-related businesses.

Agriculture-based ventures include production and processing of bananas, pineapple, mango and coconut products into chips, flour, ketchup, puree and juice drinks, nata de coco, oil, coconut wood, handicrafts, copra meat and desiccated coco.

Through the Department of Trade & Industry, Agro Fair also features Presyo Diskwento, where manufacturers' sells prime commodities at a very low price compared to its selling price at supermarkets.

Several activities lined-up this week for the 42nd Araw ng Agusan del Norte. (dxBN-Radyo ng Bayan Butuan/PIA-Caraga)

Freedom of Being

http://mindanao.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/IMG_0501.JPG

Butuan (June 14, 2009) – Butuan City Police Station 1 Commander Police Supr Joseph Boquiren with the deaf and mute children of Special Education class in Butuan Central Elementary School during the Kalayaan 2009 at Rizal Park. Freedom of choice, freedom of thought, freedom of expression. But for these children, freedom of being means so much because they need that all people are and should be treated as equal, and should be secure in their person regardless of what they are. Hay...I hope next time instead of balloons birds nalang ang ipalupad.
Or think of other ideas to make any celebration really nice.
We don't know where these balloons will land once they pop in the air.
Some of them may land in the sea and the sea creatures will eat them.
Not good :-(

do not underestimate the spending capacity of bxu residents and visitors. Definitely, before investments like this new fine dining restobar are put in place, a feasibility study was done. Going strong pa rin ang Dottie's Restaurant, Manay Maling, Citi Cafe, even though comparable na sa Manila or Cebu ang prices nila.

I still believe the taste of the food matters, maski mura pero walang lasa mag-close shop pa rin.

I can't really be sure which hotel is more expensive, be it Dotties Hotel or Almont Inland Resort. Both hotels have nice amenities though which includes a 24hr secured parking space and a swimming pool for children and adult, a restaurant and convention hall.I also heared that Dotties have a fitness gym, a Boutique, and free WIFI available at the lobby.

@uncanny, I have here Dotties Hotel tel.nos.,should you wish to inquire :)

Almont Inland Resort Hotel is the most expensive in the city. The last time i was in bxu, the standard room in Dotties is less than 2T. Relatively cheap with the amenities it offered.

hmmm....I do not think so.....BXU diners can be as discriminating as any diner in manila or cebu...that's why you can see the bar of leverage as to quality is always rising here in Butuan....those new restos no longer use the provincial benchmarks.....but even at par with cebu and manila...take for instance Citi Cafe or that of cafe Primavera...

BXU resto market is also stratified, unlike the rest of the prevailing market trend around the region..there are those that cater to middle end...low end and of course the rising high end

I was at Margie's this afternoon....and their choco monster icon which sells 700 pesos per whole is the best seller here...talking about not being able to afford:lol:

Which reminds me,I had a chat with my brother last evening and he told me that one of their Bank's clients (here in Bxu) , expressed his interest in franchising KFC. Mao ni siya ang same businessman nga gusto unta mag franchise anang Mang Inasal pero wala siya nidayun. Now, he is considering KFC. TESDA Caraga to hold Jobs Bridging and Internship Fair in Butuan

by Lovely Laudette D. Gamba

Butuan City (June 17) -- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Caraga Region will be holding a one-day Jobs Bridging and Internship Fair here, in Balanghai Hotel and Convention Center on June 26.

The activity is provided for under Executive Order 783 which provides for employment interventions to save and create jobs as part of the Economic Resiliency Plan (ERP) of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The activity aims to facilitate employment of displaced workers both local and overseas. It is meant to provide job pathways for graduates of technical-vocational education and training (TVET) and as well as link employers with TVET supply in the area.

The activity also aims to determine the match or fit between the program offered by TESDA and the industry or job requirements. The activity will also be a venue for one-stop transactions of government services such as passporting and other services.

The one-day Jobs Bridging and Internship Fair is designed to converge under one roof employers, suppliers, graduates, job seekers and brokers of government services using the mediation of computer technology.

Jobs DB.com will provide a paperless application for all job seekers through a gold card that will store the profile of applicants.

2,000 TVET graduates and job seekers, 5,000 displaced workers, 20 local employers, overseas-bound placement agencies, national line service providers and representatives from the different local government unit is expected to participate in the one-day event.

The one-day activity will compose of a job fair, skills demonstration, and awarding of livelihood checks for displaced workers by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

There will also be awarding of Pangulong Gloria Scholarship (PGS) vouchers by TESDA. There will also be TESDA fast services, program orientations and services bazaar by various national line agencies (NGAs). (PIA-Caraga)

KRs to become member of country's backbone

By Dave M. Suyao

Agusan del Sur (18 June) -- Another 57 former rebels or "Kauban sa Reporma" (KRs) receive financial and livelihood assistance worth more that P2 million from the government during the 42nd founding anniversary of Agusan del Sur on June 17, in time with the closing program of the 17th Naliyagan Festival.

After the livelihood skills and moral recovery seminar conducted on June 1- 5, 2009, 30 KRs were awarded capital goods worth P50,000 each as livelihood assistance while another 19 received P20,000 immediate assistance and another eight who were not served during the mass awarding of immediate assistance last 30 this year.

Aside from capital goods and immediate assistance, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPAPP) also gave the KRs 34 carabaos, one unit mud boat, three units motorcycles, one sprayer and two plows because most of them identified farm implements and working animals during the livelihood skills and moral recovery seminar.

In an interview, Lando (not his real name for security reason), 28 years old, said they only realized the meaning of freedom and life itself when they decided to go back to the folds of the law few years ago. After hiding and hard struggle in the mountains believing in false principles for several years, they now experience how the government love them, and how sweet life is when one is free.

"Sa kadugayon namong nag tagotago ug nagsakripisyo sa kabukiran tungod sa sayop nga prinsipyo, karon pa kami nahigmata nga wala diay kami pasagdi sa atong gobyerno ug unsa ka hayahay sa kinabuhi kung kami gawasnon", Lando said.

In her message, Gov. Maria Valentina Plaza of Agusan del Sur, said peace and order is a main ingredient of development all over the world. With the joint effort of the national and local governments, these KRs who once sow terror and fear in the countryside, will become partners of the government and the community in the development process and progress.

"Few years from now, with the assistance extended by the government to our KRs, we will never encounter food shortages in our tables because many of them are farmers and will soon become the backbone of our country. Our prayers in Agusan del Sur were heard by the heavens above, and now we see and feel the blessings that our Almighty have showered upon us as the answers to our prayers", Gov. Tina Plaza said.

It can be recalled that the provincial government under the administration of then Governor Adolph Edward Plaza, in partnership with the Office of the President, have relocated and extended livelihood assistance to some 19 former rebels. The provincial government and the Office of the President have given them raw houses, farm equipments and land to cultivate to start their new life. Today, they are producing rice, vegetables and handicrafts as their livelihood while benefiting the community of their products. (PIA)

do not underestimate the spending capacity of bxu residents and visitors. Definitely, before investments like this new fine dining restobar are put in place, a feasibility study was done. Going strong pa rin ang Dottie's Restaurant, Manay Maling, Citi Cafe, even though comparable na sa Manila or Cebu ang prices nila.

I still believe the taste of the food matters, maski mura pero walang lasa mag-close shop pa rin.

i didnt under estimate the purchasing power of the residents of bxu. just wonder how they sold a kilo of lapu2 for 8oo? its too much maybe.usually the price range form-600-700 lang sa uban nga resto. sure kaha lami ilang pagka luto?

P800 for a LapuLapu dish is relatively cheap na sa Manila. Marami na mayaman sa BXU ayaw lang lumantad. ASide from that diners in BXU are not just residents but visitors as well from Manila, Cebu, etc.

I was just quite disturbed when you say Butuan is not Manila, Cebu or CDO and hence the prices of restaurants should level to the affordability of the majority.

Even Surigao will deserve discriminating restaurants in the near future since that the volume of visitors is increasing every year. One indication is the entry of Air Phil jet service between MNL and SUG soon.

The next time i visit BXU i will definitely taste their Lapu-Lapu so i can answer your question. Maybe because of the size or weight i will discover that P800 is still cheap.

@uncanny, I have here Dotties Hotel tel.nos.,should you wish to inquire :)

but the problem is if the resto is expensive less tahn ang ila customers.kay not all people can afford the price.if para lang sa hi end. ok lag unta. pero city like bxu is not like cebu, dvao or cdo pa.

Actually, some restaurants prefer it that way. They call it the
"SNOB APPEAL" :)

Nah, I don't think so. The more expensive, the more it draws curiosity.
If people love to indulge in designer's clothes, why not in food as well? :)

:D kung sa mga lugar gaya ng surigao, butuan & davao yang P800 mahal na yan kung sa palengke mo bibilhin, kung sa source ka kukuha kaya ang P100/kilo nyan.

The 800/k lapu-lapu may sound outrageous esp if you're from small cities like Bxu. Kabalo man gud ta nga barato ra na sa palengke...hehehe. But for those people coming from BIG cities like Manila and Cebu, and have landed dining in Seafood Island resto in Butuan, the reaction would have been different. They would be indulging in menus we think are expensive, but to them, these prices are reasonable enough as compared to where they came from :)

i didnt under estimate the purchasing power of the residents of bxu. just wonder how they sold a kilo of lapu2 for 8oo? its too much maybe.usually the price range form-600-700 lang sa uban nga resto. sure kaha lami ilang pagka luto?

Sige lang @uncanny, let's give this resto a chance kay bag-o pa man...heheh . Those high menu prices is not that intimidating anymore to the Butuanons. Seafood resto is just an addition to the existing high-end restos here already. So what else is new?:lol: Basta ang importante, kinahanglan, LAMI ilang food para ipatronize gyud.

Nag start na gyud sila. A source told me this will take 8 months to construct. Let's just cross our fingers that KFC will indeed be one of the tenants.

I will not mention his name, but he is the son of WU building in Langihan...:) which is also currently constructing a huge structure in that area. I'm sure gets nyo na...hehehe
And here's more, ang iya pud igsoon gusto mag franchise ug BO's Coffee.

Well, let's just hope that if this pushes through, diri nila nga building ibutang para dayun na gyud ang KFC and Coffee shop dinha...:lol:

Let's pray for the people who are planning to franchise KFC and Bo's :) tana dayon sila ug franchise.. how i wish hehehe

DENR Caraga issues 8,322 job and livelihood program certificates

by Herzon F. Gallego

Butuan City (19 June) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Caraga has awarded 8,322 job contracts under the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP) of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo during the celebration of the 111th Independence Day and Service Fair on June 12,2009 held at the Inland Resort Convention Hall in Butuan City.

Secretary Joseph H. Durano of the Department of Tourism in his capacity as Cabinet Officer for Regional Development (CORD) of Caraga Region was at hand to give the job certificates and livelihood programs to 8,322 beneficiaries coming from the different places in the region.

Secretary Durano was assisted by DENR Regional Executive Director Edilberto S. Buiser, Regional Technical Director for Forest Management Services Virgilio dela Cruz, and Director Letty Tan of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

RED Buiser said the job contracts and livelihood certificates consisted of 3,550 livelihood assistance through Upland Development Program, 4,192 job certificates for Bantay Gubat, 450 job certificates for Bantay Dagat, 112 extension officers and 18 certificates under the Executive Order 782.

DENR Secretary Lito Atienza has earlier directed the Department’s regional offices nationwide to extend full cooperation to the DOLE in providing emergency employment opportunities to workers affected by the worldwide financial meltdown.

A total of P126,415,000 has been allocated by the DENR through the CLEEP to fund the livelihood programs and allowances of emergency workers.

The livelihood assistance for upland development program are distributed in Agusan del Norte, 722, Agusan del Sur, 803, Surigao del Norte, 861, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Island, 205.

The funds for emergency employment program was distributed to Agusan del Norte,488 Bantay Gubat, 12, extension officers; Agusan del Sur 1,991 for Bantay Gubay, 200 for Bantay Dagat and 53 extension workers; Surigao del Norte, 356 for Bantay Gubat and 250 for Bantay Dagat and 16 extension workers.

There were 1,307 persons who were hired through the Bantay Gubat in Surigao del Sur and 50 in Dinagat Island.

The DENR Regional Office has hired 18 persons under the EO 782.

Moreover, the Ecosystems Research and Development Services led by OIC, Regional Technical Director Jermias Bruzon has distributed 20,000 "malungay" seedlings and 20,000 other planting materials like " Palawan Cherry" and "Batanes Pine" flowering tree species during the job fair. Apart from its high nutritional value, the malungay is also useful in soil stabilization. (DENR-13/PIA-Caraga)

I love you Ms Bunny, we are thinking on the same line. I forgive though those who failed to get my point. Here in Manila we choose to do our informal business meetings in expensive restaurants para dili samok and we can hear each other. With the bulk of new business transactions going on in Butuan, another possible meeting area ang ISLAND. Can't wait to taste for myself the food they offer.

By the way tama si Bob, medium size ang BXU in the same league with CDO,GES,ZAM,IGN. DVO is metropolitan. All the rest in mindanao are in the small size category.

DOH confirms 1st AH1N1 case in Caraga region

by Robert E. Roperos

Butuan City (June 21) -- The Department of Health (DOH), Caraga Region, confirmed 1st case of A(H1N1) virus in the region.

This was learned from DOH-Caraga Regional Director Dr. Leonita Gorgolon, in a phone-patch interview with dxBR-Bombo Radyo Butuan this morning.

According to Dir. Gorgolon, the confirmed A(H1N1) case comes from a four- year old boy and has history of travelling abroad. "In fact, the boy came from Hongkong and arrived here in the region on June 13", Gorgolon said.

Also, Ms. Sunshine Alipayo of DOH-Caraga said in a phone-patch interview with PIA this morning, that the family coordinated with their office upon seeing signs and symptoms the boy has manifested.

Immediately, DOH-Caraga referred the boy having been suspected to have the virus to its referral hospital in Davao City – the Davao Medical Hospital. "Just last night (June 19), the result came out and was found positive," Gorgolon said.

As of press time, Alipayo said the immediate contacts of the boy were already under the treatment process to avoid the virus from spreading.

Meanwhile, as of yesterday, June 19, DOH reported that the total count of positive cases in the country already reaches 344.

However, Health Sec. Francisco Duque said "all of these 344 confirmed cases were mild in nature, both those who are currently under treatment and those who have been sent home."

Duque also said that most of the 344 confirmed cases are from Metro Manila (National Capital Region) with 234 (68%), Central Luzon (Region III) with 45 (13%), and CALABARZON (Region IV-A) with 31 (9%).

Duque also noted that in the National Capital Region, most cases came from Quezon City (81 or 34%), Manila (44 or 18%), Parañaque (21 or 9%) and Makati (15 or 6%).

Duque said the age range of these cases is from 1 to 76 years old, with 18 as the median age. He also said that most of the cases belonged to the 15-24 years age group (171 or 50%). He said that majority of cases were male (187 or 54.4%).

To date, World Health Organization (WHO) officially reported 93 countries worldwide with laboratory-confirmed cases of new influenza A(H1N1) virus.

Influenza A (H1N1) is a new virus causing illness in people. This new virus was first detected in people in April 2009 in the United States. The virus is spreading from person-to –person, probably in much the same way that the regular seasonal influenza viruses spread.

Similar to a regular flu, A(H1N1) virus have symptoms of fever, headache, fatigue, lack of appetite, runny nose, sore throat, cough, vomitting or nausea, and diarrhea.

The virus' mode of transmission is exposure to droplets from the cough and sneeze of the infected person. Influenza A(H1N1) is not transmitted by eating thoroughly cooked pork.

With these developments, DOH calls on the public to observe proper hygiene, avoid going to places with mixed crowd, and report immediately to their regional offices nationwide should signs and symptoms are seen on any individuals especially those who have history of travelling abroad.

Among the preventions advised by DOH include: cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing, always wash hands with soap and water, use alcohol- based hand sanitizers, avoid close contact with sick people, increase your body's resistance, have at least 8 hours of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids; and eat nutritious food. P18-million Agusan Norte district hospital to serve indigent patients
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
June 15, 2009, 5:56pm

BUTUAN CITY – The new P18-million Nasipit District Hospital in Nasipit town, Agusan del Norte, can now serve the public as it finally opened late last week.

The hospital has a 25-bed capacity and will service the local health zone composed of the municipalities of Nasipit, Carmen and Buenavista, and even other nearby areas.

The construction of the hospital started after the old medical facility was gutted down by fire in 2005, since then, health services became limited.

As this developed, the provincial government allocated funds to rebuild the hospital that caters mostly to underprivileged patients.

It was learned that the one-storey building housing the Nasipit District Hospital has the capability to perform four delivery operations at the same time.

Dr. Rubie Toribio, hospital administrator, reminded nurses and staff of the district hospital to give their best service to the people, not only those from Nasipit town but also patients from the neighboring areas, and made an assurance to maintain proper sanitation of the hospital.

The inauguration of the hospital was attended by Rep. Edelmiro Amante (2nd District, Agusan del Norte), Agusan del Norte Governor Earlpe John Amante, Nasipit Mayor Roy Doyon, doctors, nurses and other staff of the hospital, including regional health officials.

“This is a big help to the western side municipalities of the province,” said the lawmaker from Agusan del Norte.

“I assure you of continuous help because this is part of my health program,” he added.

Meanwhile, the 11 municipalities in Agusan del Norte committed to contribute P5,000 each, while the Department of Health in the Caraga Region will allot P10 million as funding for the expansion project of the hospital, it was learned.

It was also learned that the provincial government vowed to continue its P1 million quarterly funding allocations to sustain the availability of medicines.

The governor announced that they are now working to affirm the Nasipit District Hospital as a secondary hospital as soon as the provincial government can purchase the almost P10 million worth x-ray machine as a pre-requisite.

“The provincial government is trying its best to extend more assistance to this hospital,” added the governor.

McDonald's continues to reap good returns despite the crisis
By Rhia de Pablo Updated June 20, 2009 12:00 AM

CEBU, Philippines - While sales of other food businesses, especially those in the fine dining segment, continue to slide due to the soft economy and shrinking consumer spending, McDonald’s Philippines remains upbeat and posted sales increases.

This according to George Tan Yang, the Chairman of Golden Arches Development Corporation, the Philippine franchisee of American brand McDonald’s, during the recently held “Meet the Business Icons.”

“Meet the Business Icons” is one of the highlights of the entrepreneurship segment of the Cebu Business Month celebration this year.

Yang bared the sound standing of McDonald’s amidst today’s tough economic situation saying that fortunately, McDonalds has not really experienced certain downturns caused by the rough economic conditions and in fact their sales have been going up.

“Our corporate sales and even customer count during these times of crisis went up and this could be attributed to the shift of consumer preference over food chains instead of sit-down casual restaurants,” said Yang.

He said that the ones severely affected by the current economic crisis are the casual dining restaurants, which cost more because patrons have lessened their visits to save.

“Many casual restaurants experienced drop in sales while we in turn experienced increases in our sales because consumers shifted to eating in fast food chains. We work hard to give consumer satisfaction, quality and good service so we become more dependable at these times of crisis,” he added.

Yang also owns other posh restaurant concepts in the country like Chili’s, Flop Japs and he is also a part-owner of another American restaurant concept TGI Friday’s.

“For McDonald’s, overall it was positive although our casual restaurants did experienced some downturn but these were not drastic. The Philippines is still fortunate because we were not badly hit by the economic crisis,” said Yang.

Yang brought the McDonald’s brand in the Philippines in the year 1981 and he said that bringing this popular international brand was not easy because it was hard to convince his American partners to realize the different realities of doing business in the Philippines.

Out of the 300 McDonald’s outlets nationwide, the company owns 180 stores and Yang said that they plan to open more outlets this year.

He said that with their “pretty good sales increase”, McDonald’s might possibly open around 15 new outlets here in the country this year.

Yang said that in terms of expansion, the only limitation they face is the lack of strategic locations because in terms of resources, there are a lot of investors interested to franchise McDonald’s considering its brand image.

He said that right now, McDonald’s is already big enough and they intend to focus on what they are currently doing to be in the top of their game and to get ahead of the competition.

“Since our sales continue to increase, this means that there are still opportunities during crisis. Crisis is a chance for everybody to shine when all else are falling apart. We just need to go back to basics, pay attention to what works for us best; work harder, and provide our clients good quality and better service,” said Yang.

The event was also attended by two other business icons Dr. Alfonso A. Uy, the president of La Filipina Uy Gongco Corporation and Cebuano entrepreneur Justin Uy, the president of Profood International Corporation.

Globe, Intel launch WiMAX service in RP
By David Dizon, abs-cbnNEWS.com | 06/11/2009 4:08 PM

MANILA - Globe Telecom and Intel Philippines announced Thursday the official rollout of Globe's commercial Worldwide Interoperability For Microwave Access (WiMAX) service in the country, which is the first ever WiMAX service in the Philippines.

Globe Consumer Broadband Group Head Menchi Orlina said Globe's WiMAX service is the company's attempt to "democratize the Internet" by providing the service in areas where high-speed Internet access is difficult.

"We want to make the Internet more ubiquitous and pervasive for all Filipinos. For as low as P795 a month, consumers can now have high-speed wireless broadband Internet access in areas where Internet penetration has been difficult," she said in a press conference.

Unlike Wi-Fi services that only provide lower bandwidth applications such as e-mail and basic browsing, WiMAX can provide speeds of up to 1 Mbps which is 33 percent faster than commercially available Wi-Fi services. This is because WiMAX is built on advanced wireless technology that counteract the effects of interference to deliver more data at greater ranges.

As of June 2009, Globe's WiMAX service is already available in Camanava, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna and Quezon in Luzon; Cebu province, Bacolod, Dumaguete and Silay City in the Visayas; and Cagayan de Oro City in Mindanao.
Orlina said that by year-end, Globe is planning to expand its WiMAX service to the whole of National Capital Region and Rizal province, Benguet, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, pampanga, Bulacan, South Luzon, Bataan in Luzon; Cebu Province, Bohol, Iloilo, Leyte, Guimaras, Capiz, Negros Island in the Visayas; and Zamboanga, Compostela Valley, Agusan province, Lanao, Surigao, Cotabato province and General santos City in Mindanao.

Orlina said subscribers can choose from three WiMAX plans: P795/month for 512 kbps Internet only, P995/month for 512 kbps plus landline and P1,295 for 1 Mbps plus landline.

According to Intel Philippines Country Manager for Sales and Marketing Ricky Banaag, some 100 Intel employees started testing WiMAX technology in Cavite as early as four years ago. He said WiMAX service has also been launched in Greenbelt Center in Makati.

Navin Shenoy, vice-president for the sales and marketing group and general manager of Intel Asia-Pacific, said the launch of Globe Broadband's commercial WiMAX service "ushers in the 4G era in the country.

He said Internet usage in the region has been steadily growing despite the recession due to the increase in Internet-capable mobile devices such as iPhones and laptops. Unfortunately, he also noted that broadband penetration in the Philippines has been unevenly distributed, affecting only urban centers.

"Globe Telecom has the distinction of being the first telco to use WiMAX technology in the Philippines, which will meet growing demand for high speed Internet service. The Philippines now joins 135 countries that is offering commercial WiMAX services to consumers," he told reporters.

Shenoy said one driver of WiMAX adoption in the future is the embedding of WiMAX chips to notebooks, netbooks and other mobile devices.

He said that in Russia, one telco signed up to 76,000 subscribers one month after launching its WiMAX service. "On the other hand, telcos in Japan are planning to have nationwide WiMAX coverage by 2012," he said.

"On the other hand, telcos in Japan are planning to have nationwide WiMAX coverage by 2012," he said.

those diggings you can see along the highways east and west of the city are Globe broadband roll out lines...

Pinoy hip hop dancers from Butuan win the Dunkin’ Donuts Icy Coolers nationwide dance tilt

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HS0N-abapww/Sj2sD3xYYhI/AAAAAAAAByk/QPW46Thdr7c/s1600/blog%2Bgrand%2Bprize%2Bwinners%2Bwith%2Bjulia%2Bclarete.jpg

Pinoy hip hop dancers Next Block Crew from Butuan and Experience Kidz from General Santos snagged the top prize of P100,000 each at the recent Dunkin’ Donuts Icy Coolers Dance Dunkdown 2009 Grand Finals Night held at the Music Hall of SM Mall of Asia. Dance groups Batang Mama from the National Capital Region and Dance Pull Kids from Bacolod were the runners-up and awarded with P50,000 each.

The Grand Finals night started with a bang as the 14 finalists from all over the country heated up the dance floor to the Pussycat Dolls’ hit “Jai Ho.” Two of the most popular names in the industry, Karylle and Vhong Navarro, hosted the event and also performed.

Judges were made up of the hottest names in Pinoy hip hop today, dancer-choreographer Jason Zamora of the Manoeuvres; member and choreographer of the international hip hop group Philippine All Stars Lema Diaz; and iconic Philippine hip hop choreographer and music producer Jungee Marcelo.

They were all optimistic about the performances of each finalist and commented about each group's hippest moves.

“I’m looking for a group that starts fresh and finishes strong” said Jason. “I want to see variety, popping and locking, not just the same krumping style,” chimed in Lema. “For me precision is the edge,” commented Jungee.

Teen heartthrob Sam Concepcion, the endorser for the Dunkin’ Donuts Icy Coolers Dance Dunkdown also performed, sending the audience squealing as he danced the Icy Coolers jingle.

“The kids I saw were not just the usual dancers you see on the streets, and some of them I think have what it takes to be professional dancers some day,” Sam shared.

As the night ended, all were delighted to see happy faces and were thankful for having been part of the Dunkin’ Donuts Icy Coolers Dance Dunkdown as the kids look forward to another year.

Local show biz personalities Julia Clarete and Pauleen Luna announced the grand winners on noontime show “Eat Bulaga.”

:) its a residential building man as what it says in the tarp.. :) but the owner just wanted it to look something with contemporary boxy juxtaposing elements, wrap with broad bottom and top white cut strips..It maybe a mixed occupancy residential-commercial kay its just adjacent sa road and has a great upportunity to open up a small space for business in the ground floor its certainly because f the presence of many human figures ..nice looking building!:) hope mandaghan ni sila sa butuan!

The most common reference to describe a building like this would just be "MODERN". But I like the sound of "CONTEMPORARY" better, :okay: an Architect's term :)

Thanks mike.Actually, I know this young Architect, and I've been encouraging him to join SSC. Most of his projects here in Bxu are residential. Ang iyang mga commercial are mostly based in CDO.

IRA of 3 former cities reduced (http://mb.com.ph/articles/206183/ira-3-former-cities-reduced)

By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
June 7, 2009, 6:57pm

BUTUAN CITY – Local officials and their respective constituents were sad after the Caraga regional office of the Department of Budget and Management is set to implement any time next week the reversion of the Internal Revenue Allotments (IRAs) of the former cities of Cabadbaran in Agusan del Norte, Bayugan in Agusan del Sur and Tandag in Surigao del Sur to municipal level IRAs, this was learned Sunday.

However, the respective officials of the said former cities are still hoping that their letter of appeal to the Supreme Court (SC) will favor them.

Sources said that the DBM in Caraga Regtion already received from Supreme Court the writ of execution declaring as unconstitutional the laws converting 16 municipalities into cities because of their alleged failure to meet the P100 million annual income requirement stated in Republic Act 9009 that took effect in 2001.

The 16 include the cities of Baybay in Leyte, Bogo and Naga in Cebu, Catbalogan in Samar, Borongan in Eastern Samar, Tayabas in Quezon Province, Lamitan in Basilan, Tabuk in Kalinga Apayao, Batac in Ilocos Norte, Mati in Davao Oriental, Guihulgan in Negros Oriental, Carcar in Cebu, El Salvador in Misamis Oriental, Tandag, Bayugan and Cabadbaran in the Caraga Region.

“We are just waiting for the DBM central office to finish the recomputation of IRAs which is due next week, for us to implement to concerned local government units their new IRA figure and the three cities reverted back to municipalities,” said Northeastern Mindanao DBM Regional Director Joecel Obenza.

The IRA share will be reduced as a result to the reversion of Tandag, Cabadbaran and Bayugan back to municipal status.

This is one of the big things that BXU is indeed a model city for the rest of the region and in PI. Good example is that shanties from Agusan River was totally removed and transferred to a relocations site. I hope shanties from Holy Redeimer will also be relocated soon. Good to see this people that has proper houses in BXU.

@alfechekarl

They all are interested and they already bought properties in the city. That act of "buying" means, they have already invested. They have land banks here in the city.... Even if the actual construction did not commence yet, the fact that Robinsons land have bought a property here.....that's an investment in itself already..^^

DEPARTMENT OF FORIEGN AFFAIRS (DFA)
2/F Cesia Bldg.
South Montilla Blvd.
Butuan City

Taken on a sunday stroll (at 9:30 in the morning) when the streets are not so busy and most of the establishments are closed including DFA and all the other Banks nearby (Bank of Commerce, Allied Bank and PNB).

Hopefully the Department of Foreign Affairs Regional Consular Office 13 will have their own building, not rent from CESIA. Basin their location in that building is only temporary.

True. Even in a city like Butuan, some butuanons and vistors alike would skip the fastfood chains in preference for a more expensive restaurants or diners that offers an ambiance of a more relaxing setting where one can engage in a good conversation and enjoy the luxury of an intimate dinner.

Let's just say, for a fast growing city like Butuan, the changing taste of the people also goes with it. :) I wouldn't be surprise if more restos like Island will be opening soon in Bxu. :okay:

when we applied for the passport of the wifey there only about 8 of us inside. Also tey have this arrangement with lbc for a fee, to just send to you your passport when it is released. You dont have to go back to get it.:)

that's innovative way gyud sa DFA ...^^

before there was no DFA office in our region, people have to travel to CDO..unya once its done...they do not send it via LBC...pabalikon pa gyud ka personally...risking time, money and limb for that distant travel

^^Bob, where man imu pix nga naka bathing trunks in bora?:)

I did not spend much time at the beach...aside from the big waves....there are a lot of algae leaves and a few plastic wrappers at the water (due to high tide)....if it were not on those classy restos and seaside ameneties....comparing it to our beaches here in Cagwait, Lanuza, Cantilan or in Mangpupungko or Guyam...In my opinion....Bora beachside is an overhype

how I wish mao pod tana na mahitabo sa dagan sa ato turismo dire nga ma achieve ang level sa Bora (with all our potentials sa ato region)...pero pastilan, ngandoy lang ko....musaka ako dugo...due to reasons we all know

Bitaw..Naa pa gyud Carl Patricks. They should move or add another hospital somewhere nga peaceful and quiet. Also to the Butuan Med, hehehe tana ilahang i-modernize ang building and it's facilities or just expand.

that planned South Supermarket and South Bus Terminal there in Villa Kanangga once realized will really bring rapid urbanization to the city's southern parts
