Bitaw daku ang Bayugan mao nga nag libog jud ko sa una kung asay tinuod nga Bayugan. Bagyugan Uno is more qualified than of San Franz. Next year i think kung kayod silag insakto... hehehe I hope this Agusan del Sur College of Agriculture and Technology will be NORMISIST-CSU campus.... IMO...

I agree with you eskersyon, we cannot judge ora mismo kung angay ba sila pag ka city.. who knows diba.. kay when it comes to commercial capability, naa man sad ipakita ang San Franz.. look at jabee.. not just that, wala lang ta kasayod basin sunod tuig naa na sila mcdo... and ug maunhan pa na sila sa Surigao... ehehe bitaw hope nga magka mcdo na ang surigao... we didnt know that mang inasal is in trento na diay... hehehe kalit lang sila og butho.. hehehe ug naunhan pa hinuon ang BXU... diba so therefore dili lang jud mahibaloan ang panahon.... kay ang ilang mga leaders are trying man sad.. ningkamot man jud sila kay basin maunhan sa panon... these other municipalities in ADN like RTR, Tubay, kitcharao, Santiago murag hinay sila... kay mostly sad ang mga taga Tubay diha man sad mag transact ang uban ug business sa Cabadbaran ug ang RTR sad kay arang kaduol ra man jud sa BXU mao nga hakot halos sa BXU. hehehe then ang Santiago mga murag mingaw pajag.. iapil nato ang mun. of Afga and Sibagat.. pero dili ko mo conclude kay wala pako kaadto didtong dapita....

I think the conversion of San Francisco and Trento into a city is not impossible. We have to wait for years. Like Tagum City, San Francisco lies on a crossroad in going south to Davao and going east to Bislig. The seat of the provincial government, in Patin-ay, is very near to San Francisco. Trento lies along the boundary of Caraga and Compostela Valley. Actually near Trento is a place whose population is much bigger than Trento but not a municipality. It is Diwalwal. Most of the miners in Diwalwal transact business in Trento compared to Monkayo as Poblacion Trento is much nearer than Poblacion Monkayo. Most of them are even registered voters of Trento. Previously Trento was just a barangay of Bunawan and like Magallanes, Agusan del Norte who was then a part of Butuan City, these two barangays were converted into a municipality in 1971. A current add on for Trento now is the highway to be constructed in going to Bukidnon. Currently there are buses from Davao City that pass Trento and send their passengers to Santa Josefa, Veruela, Loreto and areas near the boundary of Bukidnon. Just sharing what I got from people there who were my friends and relatives being a member of the Piencenaves clan.

Five elementary schools in Agusan Sur receive educational aid from Japan

By Dave M. Suyao

Butuan City (16 July) -- Five depressed elementary schools receive some 600 school materials as an act of friendship extended by the Japanese children to poor but determined children in Agusan del Sur thru the Philippine National Red Cross, Agusan del Sur Chapter.

According to Lyn Garcia, National Red Cross Youth governor, the 600 bags contain notebooks, drawing books, crayons, pencils and other school supplies needed by elementary school children.

"These supplies that you receive came from the heart of children from Japan thru the Japanese Red Cross. I want you to know, that children like you in Japan spare 1 Japanese Yen every day out of their allowances in order to buy these school materials for you as gesture of genuine friendship that they want to extend to Filipino children thru the International Friendship Project of the Red Cross", Lyn Garcia said.

Coalition Elementary School principal Babylinda Doysabas of Barangay Coalition, San Luis, advised the pupils to take extra care of the educational aid they receive saying that is the only way they can show their gratitude to the generosity of their fellow children from Japan.

In response, with tears rolling down on her face, the President of the Pupils’ Supreme Council of Coalition Elementary School said, they did not expect they will receive "gifts" like what they received from children outside the country. She also promised they will repay the gesture of friendliness by taking good care of the materials in order that the love behind the "gifts" will linger forever and friendship will flourish.

In his message, Rev. Solomon Bilaoen, Chairman of PNRC Agusan del Sur Chapter Board of Directors, said the "gift" giving is just the start of a deeper development of friendship between the Filipino and Japanese children. "Someday, when our children and the Japanese children and the children around the world would share ideas and experiences thru writings and other means of communication, then true friendship will grow and that will mean better cooperation and understanding which will lead to international peace that is so elusive", Rev. Bilaoen said.

Rev. Solomon Bilaoen and Christyll Basan, PNRC provincial Administrator, led the team composed of PNRC Board of Directors and Red Cross Youth volunteers in the distribution of the educational materials to New Visayas Elementary School in San Francisco, San Vicente Elementary School in Veruela, Noveli Elementary School in Rosario, Coalition Elementary School in San Luis and Mabuhay Elementary School in Prosperidad who were chosen to be the recipients of the Red Corss Youth International Friendship Project since July 13 and ended July 15, 2009. Ay oo diay, I've forgotten...:lol: si rgejeex man gud bah...:lol: BUT Yes, it's true Filino. An Internet Cafe is not a typical Cafe. Ang iyang original concept is to provide Internet access and Entertainment at the same time. Actually, those who maintained this are those who caters to the Business people and the Working Class. Some of those Internet Cafe's especially here in BXU just have a snack corner or a kiosk. Naa puy uban, purely internet access ra gyud. And I think that it's one of those nga maoy naadtuan ni regj and his mother..hehe

I've never been to most of those places mentioned above, except for Davao. Trento and Tagum mura'g nakalabay lang :) But I do wish that those deserving a cityhood will be granted to them.

$800m Railway Gets Nod
By LITO RULONA - Correspondent Updated July 18-19, 2009 12:00 AM

Retired police general Thompson Lantion, DOTC under secretary leads transportation officials during the ground breaking of the opening of the Mindanao railway system office in Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.

The House of Representatives through the Committee on Infrastructure and Urban Development has approved the construction of the first Mindanao railways project from Cagayan de Oro City to Laguindingan in Misamis Oriental costing US$800 million.

Rep. Rufus Rodriguez,( 2nd District, Cagayan de Oro City), who joined the oversight committee for the Mindanao railways project, said that the project would commence before the year-end.

He said an office was recently established in Cagayan de Oro City to over see the preparation and implementation stage of the multi-million railway project.

“Gi-finalized na karon ang feasibility study and it would be implemented soon. Construction stage would follow,” he added.

The approved Mindanao railway project will be implemented in four phases. The first phase is from Laguindingan to Cagayan de Oro City; second phase is Laguindingan to Iligan City; third phase is Cagayan de Oro to Phividec area in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental and the final phase from Iligan City to Linamon town, Lanao del Norte.

“This would become the first railway system in the entire Mindanao stretching across 2,000-kilometer when completed,” Rodriguez said.

He said the project is done through the effort of DOTC Secretary Leandro Mendoza, transportation undersecretary Guiling Mamondiong; House Speaker Prospero Nograles together with the Mindanao based congressmen.

Rodriguez said the facilities to be used in the railways system are modern equipment used in India and Europe provinces.

He said the first phase of the railways system is expected to be finished in one-and-half- year, just in time for the operation of the Laguindingan International Airport in 2013.

“This would become the cheapest and fastest mode of transportation in Misamis Oriental. Ang atong mga negosyante dili na mobiyahe nga magdala sa ilang sakyanan. Ibilin lang nila sa terminal,” he added.

The rest of the project would attempt to connect Butuan City to Davao, Cotabato and Zamboanga provinces as well as the cities of Malaybalay, General Santos and Zamboanga.

Earlier, Mamondiong claimed that Saudi Arabian, Spanish and Chinese entities have expressed interest in helping finance the project.

The project would require the acquisition of about 360 hectares which would be used for the construction of formation and rail tracks and for the location of the depot and terminal stations.

dili na tinood Rex. Hotel Karaga right now has 3 full floors and a mezanine floor for VIP rooms for Blue Haven KTV Bar. Dapat 4 full floors siya with a swimming pool sa rooftop. But as the construction progressed they noticed the building was sinking. Meaning there was a mistake in the calculation for the pile driving requirement. This prompted the owner to demolish the 4th floor to unload some weight and prevent the building from sinking more. The next time you visit Hotel Karaga mapansin nimo ubos ang flooring sa ground floor. mas ubos pa sa level sa montilla blvd.

operational pa ang Royal Plaza Hotel, Luxury Hotel, Embassy Hotel, Emerald Villa Hotel and the other old hotels in the city. According to the Department of Tourism, the city still needs more hotel rooms to accommodate more national conventions and the like. Just imagine kung magdungan ang national conventions sa Dotties ug Almont Inland, asa na lang kaha magstay ang uban participants. he he he twice na nag-expand ang Dotties and Balanghai is also planning some expansion by adding a mutistorey building. The abandoned Carl Patricks Hotel is now undergoing renovations and will be back in business in due time. More hotels are expected to sprout in the city within the next 5 years. Right now the old unrenovated hotels in the city are still alive because they still have clients (those who cannot be accommodated anymore in better hotels and maybe because of the rate).

No! ADS is not listed as poorest provinces in PI. Dako ang source of income sa ADS. ADN and SDN i think is part of one of the poorest provinces in PI. Datu ang Del Sur oi.. hehehe Surigao and Agusan del Sur.. ang mga Norte lang nga luya kaayo....

Nope. Downgraded baya ang mga siyudad sa ADS reg because of low city income, so pasabot ana, wala sila'y wawart. Kung kwartahan palang ang ADS, daghan tana'y nahimo ug siyudad sa ADS. I think I heard a report that ADS is one of the poorest provinces in the Philippines gyud. I also think nga ang mga pulitiko didto sa ADS ang mga datu diha. I don't think that ADN is a poor province, I mean, ADN has Butuan City and has municipalities nga mga nindot like Nasipit, Cabadbaran, Carmen, etc.

I still have no UPDATE about that sister company of Jollibee I told you about which is supposed to occupy FSUU space vacated by Tita's Cafe. My brother told me wala pa gyud daw sila magkita adtong mag franchise (son of Wing On).

BUT my brother told me also, that another friend had mentioned to him nga instead of MANG PEPE.....(Yes, Mang PEPE...hehehe..any violent reactions?), a DIMSUM which they'll also franchise is now being considered.

BUT like I said guys, this isn't SURE pa gihapon till my brother says so. Ako lang ni gi mention here karon coz I know how BOB & BXU-GCP reacted to Mang Pepe...:lol:

So, if ever, which is better, MANG PEPE or a DIMSUM?

If the politicians mao ray datu sa Agusan del Sur then I think same ra sa Agusan del Norte. Plaza's are still lording over the two Agusan provinces though the Amante's are now showing their strength also. The siblings of D. O. Plaza are still there in Patin-ay, Prosperidad and in Butuan City.

Nice ang PRINCE HOTEL in Cebu. Mura'g sosyal. I've seen a lot of Koreans nga naga check-in didto. Duol ni siya sa Ayala Center, isang liko lang..hehehe. And since ang owner of PRINCE HOTEL in Cebu is the brother in law of Mr. VU, it is possible that this PRINCE HOTEL in Butuan is a joint venture?

Another news, guys, A "POSH SPA" will open soon atbang sa butuan Doctor's. The owner of this Spa & Saloon is no other than Ma'am Angel Amante. Hmmm...tingnan nga natin kung "posh" spa nga as what the name implies

And, I was at Body & Sole yesterday. I asked them if it's possible for them to open a branch in Surigao. Ingon sila, no plan pa as of now. I asked them, how about David Saloon in Butuan? kay naa na baya sa Surigao. Their reply was that there's no way David Saloon can compete with Body & Sole, Viamonde, Skin & Body & Bloomingdale's ( Dating Pretty Looks Saloon) in Butuan. Aside from that, daghan na lagi kuno diri mga saloon diri Bxu,plus mag open pa si Ma'am Angel Amante...hehe.. uwahi na daw ang David Saloon, maglisud na sila. Huh? Bakit naman? Yeah, gi-widen nila ang road into four lanes. Sakto ang government nga padak-on ang mga dalan diha sa Baan-Ampayon kay didto man ang entry point sa mga tawo nga gikan sa northern and southern part sa Mindanao, labi na ang Davao ug Agusan del Sur ug Surigao. I can't really tell unsa ka daku ang area kay wala pa man siguro nahuman regj. I think tapad man siguro ni siya sa LA CAFEZA. Let's just hope it's not "bukot bukot". Sayang, sana she could have franchised nalang David Saloon kay sure market pa. With all those existing spas & saloons in our city, it'll be quite a tough start if it's not a "BIG" name at all :ohno:

Subayno tops Butuan race
By CLYDE MARIANO
July 19, 2009, 4:09pm

BUTUAN CITY — Fernando Subayno ruled the Butuan leg of the 33rd National Milo marathon elimination Sunday that started and ended near Saint Joseph Church here.

The 25-year-old farmer from Sibagat, Agusan del Sur overtook Angelito Sibayan and Jobert Carolino in the last nine kilometers to cross the finish line alone, an improvement from his fourth place finish last year.

Subayno, who turns 26 on August 8, negotiated the 21-kilometer race through the city’s main streets in one hour, 14 minutes and 58 seconds.

In Santiago City, Isabela, Francisco Dinaming won the race in 1:16.49, but failed to meet the 1:15.00 qualifying standard in the men’s division. He clocked 1:16.49.

Dinaming blamed lack of competition for his slow time.

“I could have made it and run in the finals if the opposition was tough. No one chased me when I spurted away right from the starting gun. I’m very disappointed,” rued the 21-year-old student from Ifugao State College of Agriculture and Forestry.

Nevertheless, Dinaming went home P10,000 as consolation for his effort.

There were also no women qualifiers in the Isabela race.

Subayno was ecstatic with his triumph.

“Nang kumalas ako hindi na ako lumingon. Masaya ako dahil yung biyahe ko galing sa bayan ko hindi nasayang,” said Subayno, who won P10,000 plus a ticket to the finals in October in Manila.

Sibayan, a criminology graduate at the University of Mindanao, finished second in 1:16.08 and Carolino, 24, from Tagum, Davao del Norte, was third in 1:17.52.

Sibayan and Carolino also joined Sabayno to the finals.

Subayno said he hopes to become the first runner from Agusan del Sur to win the country’s premier footrace.

“Sasagarin ko ang tatlong buwan ensayo para may laban. First time ko sasali sa finals.Gagawin ko lahat ang makakaya para manalo,” said Subayno.

Butuan Prepares for a Week-long 59th Charter Day Celebration
July 18, 2009

http://mindanao.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/IMG_2108.JPG

Butuan – Responding to people’s call, the city government opted to conduct yet another Mega Job Fair in time for the week long celebration of the 59th Adlaw Hong Butuan.
Job seekers can avail of the 2-days Adlaw Hong Butuan Mega Job Fair on July 27 and 28 at the city hall lobby, where more than 20 local and overseas agencies were invited to involved in the event.

The new City Tourism Chief whose appointment has already been approved by the Committee on Tourism recently has drafted the calendar of events and presented the same to City Tourism Council Chairperson Daisy B. Plaza, who promised to make the celebration festive.
One event that could draw attention for those in search of action is the motocross competition to be held at the City Sports Complex on August 2, the Charter Day Celebration.
Organizers hope, that this is not simply an adrenaline rush that draws motocross riders, enthusiasts and their families.

http://mindanao.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/IMG-1011.JPG

“It’s also where friendships made, the family atmosphere, discipline and sportsmanship learned, and the excitement and fun”, said City Sports Coordinator, Councillor Randolf Plaza.
Part of the tradition is the wreath laying ceremony on the tomb of Marcos M. Calo who was the congressman to file a bill converting Butuan into a city.

It was on August 2, 1950, that Butuan became a city by virtue of Republic Act No. 523 otherwise known as the City Charter of Butuan, and from being a chartered city, Butuan was reclassified into a highly urbanized city on February 7, 1995 based on its outcome and population.

Boy Daku: Life’s Second Chance, A Miracle
July 18, 2009

by: striker_jem

Butuan – Mayor Democrito D. Plaza finally is home today from Davao in almost a month’s confinement in a hospital.

“What happened to my husband is a miracle from God, it’s hard to believe but I think God has given him a second chance to live,” recounts Daisy B. Plaza, the wife of the Mayor.

It was in June 22 when the Mayor felt unusual the moment he finished his dialysis session at Butuan Doctor’s Hospital. On his way to the comfort room he felt weak, unable to get up.

The Mayor was confined in an ICU and Mrs. Plaza observed him suddenly so quiet and not joking of which he does most of the time.

Mrs. Plaza suspected something might be wrong and called up the doctor’s attention that immediately conducted a CT scan and found out, that the Mayor’s right frontal nerve in his head bursts.

Attending physician temporarily stopped the mayor from taking his 4 types of blood thinner medicines to prevent complications.

Cases such as this it was learned, that within 24 hours after stopping blood thinner medication the patient faces risks.

“Surprisingly, its God miracle that the blood stopped from spreading sparing his vital organs from damage”, said Mrs. Plaza.

http://mindanao.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/IMG-0974.JPG

However, cardiologists wouldn’t take chances and recommended to the family that the Mayor need to be transferred to a hospital in Davao where it is equipped with a catheter laboratory to improve blood flow to the heart under worse situations as an effect of not taking the blood thinning medicine. The Mayor had a history of angioplasty.

“A second chance at life will have a brand new Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II in the coming days. Others may not believe, but the Mayor has seen his purpose, and that would be winning souls, to tell a story of God’s mercy”, Mrs. Daisy B. Plaza said and thanked all the people who prayed for her husbands recovery.

The owner of Golden Prince Hotel owns also the older Golden Valley Hotel which is situated at Pelaez St. right at the back of University of San Carlos Main. Our team was the one who undertook the plumbing design of these buildings. I hope Golden Prince Hotel will not be overshadowed by the 15 storey Elizabeth Hotel which is constructed across Golden Prince.

that road in tagum City is much better than most boulevards here in Mindanao....it is better looking than BXU's Montilla, or Gensan's Pioneer and Acharon, or Davao's McArthur...
the only thouroughfare that is as nice as that of tagum's is Zambo's Cawa-cawa boulevard

The Tagum highway is very much beautiful. Not only that they have planted center islands but also a well manicured side islands with red brick layouts and much wider enough for a car to even perch on it. Much more their side islands are provided with waiting sheds for bus passengers to use during embarking and disembarking and utilize the accessory one lane road (a bike lane?) for their mint green colored tricycles. The highway is a six lane road with center island and two side islands plus two additional lanes making it an eight lane highway. Some will say that a highway is six lane when in fact its only a four lane highway as the six lane occurs only near an intersection as it is a flared highway. Tagum's highway is really the real eight lane highway without flarings.

Ouch! You can say that again,BOB :lol: True, Our North Montilla Bldv.center island lacks the luster as compared to that of Tagum's. But those Indian trees looks okay, actually, for as long as they're trimmed. What's kulang lang I guess, are flowers that will add color (like maybe Bougainvillea?) instead of those "Dying" looking planters nga niwang na kaau

And ...those vehicles should not be allowed to just park anywhere. Just look at that track...:ohno:...nakadugang lang sa kagubot plus hazard pa.

Naa man siguro programa ang city government nga pwede daw ta maka-rent ug center island sa montilla boulevard wherein kita ang mag maintain sa mga trees or plants, or tig-guna sa mga sagbot. ^^

Naay uban nga imbis naay nakasulat nga NO PARKING, mag parking gyud. Himoon tana ug no parking zone ang montilla boulevard lanes, ang masakpan, multa dayun.

Good for Tagum to have thought of this ELEVATED center islands which IMO is easier to maintain because nobody(in their right mind) would dare step on those planters kay tua man sa taas

Bitaw, kulang pud ta ug mga waiting sheds for passengers. I hope Butuan will address this need as well.

Ginahimo naman ni nila Franz. Didto sa downtown area daghan na na tow nga sakyanan for not following the No Parking sign. There was once I saw a policeman put a lock or something sa vehicle's tire. they do this after 20 mins had lapsed after they've called the attention of the car's owner using a loud speaker (sakto ba ni nga term?). To be able to unlock the tire, the owner should pay first the corresponding fee. I just hope tho' that they'll be more strick in our main thoroughfares.

The government should focus on the environment naman pod oi. Kalooy ni mama earth, every afternoon, grabe ang climate change. One thing to support the environment of Butuan is to plant palm trees along the blvd as what you've said reg, kung pwede lang, magbutang pod sila ug mga bulak or mga bushes aron ma-decorate sab ini. Franz pls verify the news that NORMISIST did not pass the recent AACCUP Level III Accreditation Visit last March. If you have time, please see Dr Thelma Conde Montero-Galliguez at the Mathematics Department, College of Arts and Sciences. She is the highest ranked professor of NORMISIST and a holder of a PhDMath degree from Ateneo de Manila University. Dr Galliguez can definitely shed light to this.

Good Morning Butuan!

Greetings from the Queen City of the South!

BTW, I would like to share another highway that is "parang wala sa Pinas". It's a different highway than that of Tagum coz it's situated beside the sea. Impressive gyud ang Tagum considering that they're still a very young city. Expected na man gud ang Cebu to have this kind of project. I hope mabasahan ni sa atong local government to create something like this, it's very possible since Butuan has a handful of existing and U/C highways.

Agusan gold miner sees ‘greater profitability’
Tuesday, July 21, 2009

THE LOCAL unit of Australian Medusa Mining Ltd. has found significant gold reserves in its gold mine in northeastern Mindanao, the miner said in a report to the Australian bourse late last week.

The probable reserve as of June 14 stood at 1.041 million metric tons at 14.9 grams of gold per metric ton equivalent to 500,000 ounces of gold, Philsaga Mining Corp. said after completing its ore reserve estimates.

"This represents an increase of 101% or 251,000 ounces over the probable reserve of 249,000 ounces at 10.8 grams of gold per metric ton announced in August 2008," the miner said.

The reserves will allow the miner to extract 100,000 ounces of gold per year in five years from its 2,539-hectare property in the municipality of Rosario in Agusan del Sur. "A mine life of five years based on reserves is a major achievement for a narrow vein mine," Medusa Managing Director Geoffrey Davis said. "The company anticipates that it will be able to maintain this level of reserves on a yearly basis through continuing conversion of inferred resources to reserves as the mine develops," he said in the disclosure.

Meanwhile, Philsaga President Samuel G. Afdal said "there is going to be longer mining operations and greater profitability for our shareholders."

"There is no problem in the market because of good prices of gold," he said in a phone interview.

Gold is now selling at $940-$950 per ounce, higher than the average of $907 an ounce in the first quarter.

In April, Medusa said it was "on track" toward producing 60,000 ounces of gold per year starting this month.

"We are targeting 100,000-ounce-per-year operation staring in November this year," Mr. Afdal said.

The miner started redeveloping the underground mine in September last year, when the company was producing 40,000 ounces of gold per year.

Medusa and Philsaga produced 12,716 ounces of gold in the first quarter, slightly higher than the 12,158-ounce output in the last quarter of 2008.

In January, Medusa began its one-year supply contract with a Hong Kong metal trader.

"Our exploration projects [in adjacent areas] will continue. We have budgeted around $6 million for exploration this year," Mr. Afdal told BusinessWorld.

Medusa merged with Philsaga in 2006 through a A$12-million payment to shareholders. — Neil Jerome C. Morales

bitaw, unsa kaha naay champagne trees sa center isles with flowers blooming or with bushes, tapos naay tarung nga mga suga? tapos ang naa sa sidewalk kay kadtong palm tree, bench for lovers, lingin nga mga suga and ang flooring is purely made of bricks?

For me naman,I would prefer that the whole stretch of Montilla Blvd's center islands should be planted with white and pink bombels (or Bougainvilleas) just like in Singapore. And YES,Franz, palm trees along the sidewalks para cool and shaded ang feeling sa mga pedistrians. Benches are okay but I notice that in Butuan, himuon lang ni nga tambayan or higdaanan sa mga rugby boys and beggars :lol: mas better pa siguro, waiting sheds nalang. Hay, if this will indeed happen, driving along the Boulevard will never be the same again. Wala nay ma high blood coz those flowers will somehow cool down the senses.. fresh na fresh .:lol: sigh..again...wishing...wishing...:bash:

Bitaw, i hope they'll implement a very strict regulation on this. akong daddy kay bisag unsaon gahi jud ug ulo, didto gyud siya nag parking sa NO PARKING sign pag simba namo sa Cathedral. Ingon man siya sa amo nga sige lang wala bitaw pulis. malingaw man pod siya kung tawagon nako siya ug Traffic Violator hehehe katawa ming duha

It's the same thing with signs that says "Bawal Magtapon ng Basura" or "Bawal umihi Dito" or "No Loading & Unloading":lol: That's what you call, "Only in the PI".

Tell your Dad not to be overly confident just because there are no policemen around. I've paid the price when I did something I thought "makalusot" kay way pulis ...hehe. Na ticketan na tawn ko twice noh, coz one time, diha GMALL, "GO" ang light, ni left turn ko..:lol:.I thought same ra sa Ochoa nga pwede ka mo left turn pag "GO" ang light. With all innocence, I told the kind looking officer about this, but he wouldn't budge (so unkind na siya after that :lol:). The second time naman, my violation ay "Beating the RED LIGHT".Speeding my way from North Montilla going left, I saw the yellow light na, "yehey, nakaapas pa ko, suya 'guro ang pulis diha sa Crown kay wa nagbantay". But when I neared Dunkin, aruy, gipahunong ko sa pulis :bash: I've learned my lesson after that, Not only it's very HASSLE on your part, you also have to pay the 1,ooo penalty. BUT comment ko lang, sana they have to be more vigilant sa mga real culprits and not tolerate especially kanang mga jeepney drivers nga badlungonon gyud.

Morales

Great profit indeed for Agusan del Sur! Agusan del Sur is rich in natural resources. Mining could be a good income generating trade that is abound in Agusan del Sur like the gold mining in Rosario and Bunawan. Marble mining is also existing in Trento. However, like what I learned from a DOST seminar here in Cebu wherein a speaker said "What's boom for the farmers it might be a boon for fishermen". During my last visit there in Agusan last May, fishermen of Magallanes and Lumbocan were complaining of their dwindling catch. They even encountered a case where fishes were gasping for breath. For the past years they did not have a catch of the famous "uyap". Hipon, a fish bigger than uyap with vertical black stripes is nowhere to find. Kinsa ilang gibasol? Its the mining operation sa upper Agusan.

A development can be a great opportunity in ways that it can provide jobs. But more often than not, it can also be environmentally damaging like that of a Mining operation. But what can we do, that's just it.and the harsh reality, naa gyuy ma sacrifice.

Butuan celebrates 31st NDPR week

by Lovely Laudette Gamba

Butuan City (July 21) -- Parents' faces light up as their children with disabilities shows off their talents during the opening salvo of the 31st National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week celebration at the Rizal Park, recently.

In that rare moment the city witnesses the untiring hand of parents and teachers as they guide their special children in the day's activity. It shows the community how far can parents' love, nurturing and community involvement could go in helping children with disabilities.

The activity also highlights the capabilities of an empowered person with disability (PWD). It shows how much they can achieve and contribute to the community. The day's activity proves that with community involvement and proper implementation of programs, the PWDs are assets and contributors to the country's development.

Mr. Ritchie Ravelo, President of the differently-abled association of Butuan despite his disabilities has achieved milestones in his life. He has inspired PWDs like him and has steered his organization to the right path. In his closing remarks during the opening ceremony, he implores the local government units and all enforcing agencies of the government to implement the laws pertaining to PWD's.

Another PWD, Jonathan Nonan proved that disability is not a hindrance in becoming a good father. Jonathan has six children and according to his wife a very good provider of the family.

This year's theme, "Tungo sa Katuparan ng Karapatan ng PWD's" stresses the importance of enforcing the laws for PWD's such as the accessibility law.

To show the government's support to the PWDs, Vice Mayor Dino Claudio Sanchez together with representatives from the different regional line agencies distributed 14 crutches and two wheelchairs during the opening ceremony. The crutches were donated by the Faith Baptist Church and by Vice Mayor Sanchez and the wheelchairs by the Seventh Day Adventists Church. (PIA-Caraga)

Butuan to commemorate IHL day and 60th anniversary of Geneva convention

by Lovely Laudette Gamba

Butuan City (July 21) -- The city is set to commemorate the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Day and the observance of 60th Anniversary of the 1949 Geneva Convention on August 12.

Several activities were lined-up by the inter-agency committee to celebrate the occasion. The committee is headed by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

IHL is a set of rules which place restrictions on the use of weapons and methods of warfare. It aims to protect human dignity and to limit suffering during times of war.

IHL prohibits or limits the use of weapons during war. It requires parties to a conflict to distinguish between combatants and civilians; to refrain from attacking civilians; to care for the wounded and sick; to protect medical personnel; and to ensure that the dignity of prisoners of war and civilian internees is preserved by allowing visits by ICRC delegates.

The ICRC serves as the "guardian" of IHL, basing its work on the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their two Additional Protocols of 1977. These instruments of IHL give the ICRC the right to carry out activities such as bringing relief to wounded, sick or shipwrecked military personnel, visiting prisoners of war, restoring contact between members of families separated by conflict, aiding civilians and ensuring that those protected by humanitarian law are treated accordingly.

IHL concerns two situations; international armed conflicts, which involve at least two countries and armed conflict that take place in one country such as those between a government and rebel forces.

IHL applies to all parties to a conflict regardless of who started it.

IHL protects those who are not, or no longer, participating in hostilities, such as civilians, medical and religious military personnel, wounded, shipwrecked and sick combatants, and prisoners of war.

Recognizing their specific needs, IHL grants women and children additional protection.

The ICRC is present in over 60 countries. Its network of offices is adjusted regularly to keep step with developments in armed conflicts and other situations of violence. (PIA-Caraga)

Illegal settlers around Camp Bancasi given till August 31 to vacate homes

by Lovely Laudette D. Gamba

Butuan City (July 21) -- Illegal settlers at the Military Reservation area in Bancasi, this city is given until August 31, to vacate their homes. This is revealed by Lt. Col. Efrain Oropel, Camp Commander of the Camp Bancasi Military Reservation during a press conference recently.

The eviction is prompted by plans of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to pursue development in the military reservations throughout the country.

"The eviction is part of the developmental plan of the AFP, the plan could not be pursued without evicting the illegal settlers surrounding the military reservation. This is true to all military reservations throughout the country not just in Bancasi," says Cpt. Aldrich Uayan of the 4th Infantry Division.

The eviction is covered by AFP Special Order No. 26 dated December 16, 2006. The said order aims to clear military reservations throughout the country of all illegal settlers.

The military reservation in Bancasi was granted to the Philippine Army (PA) through Presidential Proclamation No. 113 dated November 23, 2009.

The eviction of illegal settlers around Camp Bancasi is supposed to be done last January, 2009. For humanitarian reasons the eviction was postponed till May 31, but residents of the area through a Barangay Order asked for another 3-month extension, which the AFP concede.

"As per order from the top, residents surrounding the Camp Bancasi are ordered to vacate the area. The order is supposed to be effective last January 2009 but because of humanitarian considerations, I personally extended the eviction till May 2009. Now, thru a Barangay Order the residents asked for a three months extension till August 31," explains Col. Oropel.

The military is confident that there will be no resistance during the eviction on August 31.

"I don't think there will be resistance during the eviction, since they (the illegal settlers) has been given ample time. In fact, four concrete houses in the area has voluntary demolished their homes," says Col. Oropel.

Major Eduardo Abaño of the 4th Infantry Battalion added that, "If they go against the military, they can be charged with direct and indirect assault. And I don't think, the active military service men in the area will object in anyway because it is a direct order from the headquarters."

To help relocate illegal settlers in the area the AFP tapped the local government unit of Butuan. There is already a relocation program for the illegal settlers but fund for the purchased of the lot is still unavailable. There are also relocation areas in Butuan where those who will be relocated can apply.

Illegal settlers in the military reservation started through permission by Camp Commanders for military personnel to build houses in the area considering that their job is semi-permanent. But they were not required to build concrete houses, only houses made up of indigenous materials.

Most of the settlers are civilians and not connected to the military, children of former military officers. There are also some active military personnel and retirees. (PIA-Caraga)
