Butuan Celebrates Abayan Festival
July 26, 2009

by: striker_jem

Butuan – The Abayan Festival is held every last Sunday of July at PPA grounds, honouring patroness of Agusan River, St. Anne.

Abayan festival marks the beginning of a weeklong merriment to last until August 2, in celebration of the 59th Adlaw Hong Butuan (charter day).

A traditional fluvial parade was held later in the afternoon and it was well attended by devotees, employees of the city government and officials of neighbouring barangays.

This year, aside from the traditional baroto race in different category, transpolympics was introduced to encourage the transport sector in participating sport events.

Kids also had their share of fun in the Laro ng Lahi like bagol race, hullahoop race, lemonsito relay and many more.

Part of crowd drawer is the Amateur Boxing Tournament with 10 bouts of boxers from different barangays in the city.

Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II convey his appreciation to those in attendance and hopes to gather more support from the public to the many activities the city government has prepared for this week.

On July 27, the City Tourism sponsors Speak Butuanon on Air: Trivia and Singing Binutuanon, through a local FM radio to encourage the listeners to join in speaking one’s dialect fluently.

There will also be a Quiz Bee-Butuanon campus hopping until July 31.

The CSWD’s annual Search for Little Miss Butuan will be held on July 29, Barangay Palaro (Sports Clustering) continues which was launched early this month, and a Flowerhorn Exhibits at Gaisano Butuan will run from July 30 to August 2.

City Tourism Council Chairperson Daisy B. Plaza also announced the holding of the final selection of the Butuan Songwriting Competition.

The annual mass civil wedding dubbed as “Pangasaw-anay dian Butuan” will be held on August 1 and preparations are in progress to make the event more meaningful and memorable. The occasion is intended for those couples living together for more than 5 years and has not been married in civil or church rites.

The Mayor assured the public and tourists, of a festive 59th Adlaw Hong Butuan celebration on August 2 and hopes to have a good weather on that day.

Glo hits critics
Tuesday, July 28, 2009

IN HER last State of the Nation Address, President Arroyo criticized her detractors for the first time but did not categorically say she if she will extend her term or not.

Arroyo also defended her record during her turbulent 8 1/2 years in power and assured lawmakers she will not lift term limits set by the Constitution.

“I have never expressed the desire to extend myself beyond my term,” Arroyo said. “Many of those who accuse me of it tried to cling like nails to their posts.”

“I am accused of misgovernance. Many of those who accuse me of it left me the problem of their misgovernance to solve. And we did it,” she said as a message to her critics.

“I am falsely accused, without proof, ofusing my position for personal profit. Many who accuse me have lifestyles and spending habits that make them walking proofs of that crime,” she said.

“At the end of this speech I shall step down from this stage ... but not from the presidency. My term does not end until next year. Until then, I will fight for the ordinary Filipino.

The nation comes first. There is much to do as head of state—to the very last day,” she said.

Pro-democracy

Arroyo said she will defend democracy when threatened by violence in her last months in power—a warning to anyone plotting to remove her by force.

The 62-year-old US-trained economist has survived four coup attempts and four impeachment bids since 2001. Her opponents have accused her of maneuvering to extend her six-year term either by amending the country’s 1987 Constitution to lift term limits or by imposing martial law.

“The noisiest critics of constitutional reform tirelessly and shamelessly attempted Cha-Cha when they thought they could take advantage of a shift in the form of government. Now that they feel they cannot benefit from it, they oppose it,” she said.

She said in the face of attempted coups, she issued emergency proclamations “just in case.”

“But I was able to resolve these military crises with the ordinary powers of my office. My critics call it dictatorship. I call it determination,” she said.

‘Scared’

“But I never declared martial law, though they are running scared as if I did. In truth, what they are really afraid of is their weakness in the face of this self-imagined threat,” she added.

Arroyo, a former vice president, served part of another president’s term after replacing Joseph Estrada, who was deposed in 2001.

Riot police yesterday used trucks, barbed wire and shipping containers to block more than 10,000 people who braved the rain to protest outside the House of Representatives, where Arroyo gave her hourlong annual speech.

Reactions

Protest leaders warned Arroyo of public unrest if she clings to power.

“Ms. Arroyo’s political maneuvers ... to perpetuate herself in power will surely face the people’s wrath,” said Rep. Rafael Mariano, who boycotted Arroyo’s speech and joined the protesters.

Opposition Rep. Roilo Golez, Arroyo’s former national security adviser, said the president’s promise not to extend her stay in office “may not be as categorical as some people would want it, but it sounded like goodbye.”

US Ambassador Kristie Kenney also said Arroyo’s address “sounded like a final” speech in Congress.

Left-wing activist and lawmaker Satur Ocampo, however, said Arroyo failed to ask her congressional allies to stop efforts to amend the Constitution to extend her term.
“Such uncertainty will continue to fuel protests,” he said.

The rowdy demonstrators set on fire a huge effigy of Arroyo, who was depicted as a decomposing figure in a red dress atop a military tank labeled “Gloria Forever.” A huge streamer read, “Gloria, you’re history.”

Eleven priests in white cassocks held letters that formed the phrase, “Enough of GMA.”

Obama meeting

In her speech, Arroyo said she was the first Southeast Asian leader invited to the White House for a meeting Thursday with President Barack Obama.

On the agenda will be security issues and terrorism, Arroyo said US troops have been training Filipino soldiers battling al-Qaida-linked militants in Mindanao.

Arroyo also said her government’s fiscal measures protected the Philippine economy from the global financial meltdown, claiming sustained growth and getting close to a balanced budget.

She also pointed to advances in education, promotion of next year’s automated elections, improvements in infrastructure and initiating fresh peace bids with Muslim and communist rebels.

CBCP

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) approved of the Sona.

“It was prepared very well and logically with the accomplishments of the administration,” said CBCP president Angel Lagdameo, in an article posted at the CBCP’s website.

But the CBCP official said the speech would have been complete if President Arroyo also reported the things her government failed to accomplish in the past year.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Lucenito Tagle noted that Arroyo’s expression of support on full automation of the May 2010 polls is an assurance that she has no plans of extending her term.

“She categorically stated that there will be elections in 2010,” he said.

In a separate interview, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said it is a good sign when the President stated that she plans to end her term in 2010.

Arroyo, in her speech, advised presidential aspirants to talk about how to build up the nation rather tear down their opponents

She added that “give the electorate real choices and not just sweet talk.” (AFP/Sunnex)

mga tausug kasi are originally from butuan.. nagmigrate sila sa kung nasaan sila ngaun at yung naiwan ang yung mga native butuanon... kaya tingnan mo ang language ng mga tausug at butuanon..may similarities!

yes, it was theorized that during the height of the Butuan Kingdom....a few Butuan royalties moved to Sulu as this was more proximate to Java, Sumatra and Malaya...

kung mag balik tanaw tayo sa history... ang lahi natin ay Malay... bakit ano bang lahi ng Gensan? badjaw? kongking? or meztiso na fil-am... "filinong amo" joke.. :hilarious: bitaw fadingding, parepareho lang ang lahi natin oi.. remember 151 dialects meron ang PI... ang Butuanon usa na na.... pero i dont know kugn tausog kse ang tausog tua ra na sa Jolo sulu... ang alam ko ang sa Butuan or Agusan is manobo...

Gensan once formerly called Raga Buayan was once a fishing settlement populataed by Maguindanaos....then its demographics changed after it was founded by General Paulino Santos after world war 2.....where settlers from Panay particularly Iloilo moved in to work in its vast agri lands

Ah ok. i though you are referring to a specific word sa gisulti nako kay Franz since imo mang gud gi- quote...hehe natingla ko kay english man tu...:lol:

But it's true, a lot of Butuanon & Tausug words are similar. I think I've already mentioned this before pa. Kanang words nga " Diin,Duom, pakain bang panaw mo or pakain ba kaw, ngan,...etc...etc... basta daghan. I have
Tausug dormmates before & I can perfectly understand them. I've even heared them say in one sentence that is Butuanon gyud. I've also read somewhere that a Tausug's closest affiliation is with Butuanon.A Mindanao language spoken at the mouth of the Agusan River. The two languages are believed to have separated some 900 yrs ago.

correct ateBunns....local historians also theorized that at the height of the kingdom of Butuan...its borders stretches to as far as present Misamis and Bukidnon and Davao Oriental and del Norte and the entire provinces of present day Caraga....when all of these was referred as Butuan....and was mentioned in the Song Shih' (annals of Chinese History) as Phu' Tu'an...meaning land of gold down south...

now..here's the catch....would it be safe to say that in matters of ancestral domain....Butuan now can lay claim to this wide swath of Mindanao island as once its ancestral territorial stronghold :)

Caraga’s biggest school suspend classes up to Aug. 6 due to A (N1H1) flu confirmed cases

by Ben Serrano

July 28, 2009

BUTUAN CITY – Caraga Regions’ biggest public high school in terms of enrollment have started to suspend classes effective today up to August 6 after a number of students have reportedly ill or acquired fever similar to persons affected with A (N1H1) flu virus or have shown symptoms, school authorities said.

Students who went out school premises and rushed home this morning told this writer in random interviews that nearly majority of the classmates of the two students confirmed with A(N1H1) have reportedly fallen ill due fever.

“We are afraid, majority of students of that third year section were two flu positive students came from are now reportedly have fevers, we are happy that our principal have announced suspension of classes” says Beverly and Donna (who requested not to reveal their surnames) third year students of Agusan National High School.

THE STAR tried to reach DOH Caraga regional director Dr. Leonila Gorgolon but to no avail.

Agusan National High School Principal, Dr. Peter G. Esterioso confirmed to this writer that two of its students were found to be A (N1H1) positive after official findings from DOH’s Research Institute of Tropical Medicine from Taguig was handed to him through local DOH regional office here.

Esterioso said the samplings were taken from the two third year high school students last July 23 after it showed symptoms of the illness.

“But despite of the warnings, they still reported to school while awaiting the RITM results thinking that their illness were just ordinary fever, Matigas mga ulo gusto talaga pumasok sa eskwela (hard headed they really wanted to report to report to school) ”, Esterioso said.

“Until some students here have already showed symptoms of fever by which we no longer took the problem for granted as some uses public transport system in reporting to school daily”, Esterioso added.

Until this morning, Esterioso admitted he received the DOH regional office circular memorandum order with concurrence from Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Susan Cuizon suspending all classes from all levels including day and night school up to August 6.

Agusan National High School Nurse Marie Grace Bernales said she will meet with DOH-Caraga regional office officials this morning to discuss disinfection procedures of the school which will probably start tomorrow.

Agusan National High School aside from being a top academic performer has the biggest number of enrollment among public high schools in the entire Caraga Region. It has a total of more than 10,000 enrolled students in both day and night high school classes.

It is also one of the oldest public national high school in Caraga Region having founded in the 1950’s. with nearly 500 non-teaching and teaching personnel.

Spain gives 5 schools to Caraga
Manila Bulletin - Monday, July 27

Butuan City - Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Jesli A. Lapus flew here recently to receive the ceremonial key for five newly-constructed two-room school buildings donated to the Caraga Region office of DepEd by the Spanish government through its Improvement of the Quality of Primary Education (IQPE) program.

The ceremonial key was personally turned over to Lapus by Spanish Ambassador to the Philippines Miguel Angel Barba during appropriate rites held at the compound of the Cahayagan Elementary School in Carmen town, Agusan del Norte, one of the recipient schools.

Newly appointed Caraga DepEd Director Isabelita M. Borres and Agusan del Norte Schools Division Superintendent Ponciano Q. Joven witnessed the turnover ceremony which was attended by local government officials and field school officials from the five recipient towns.

Lapus said the new school building, built for all-weather conditions, costs more than P1 million each.

The project represents the last phase of a bilateral agreement between Spain and the Philippines designed to help improve access to quality basic education in the Caraga Region.

The other donated school buildings, Lapus said, are located in Siargao and Dinagat Islands.
According to Lapus, the five Caraga school structures donated by the Spanish government were constructed under the DepEd's Principal-Led School Building program.

Philcom subsidiary transferred to PLDT
Monday, 27 July 2009 21:57

TELECOM firm Philippine Global Communications Inc. (Philcom Inc.) told the regulators last week that its subsidiary Philcom Corp. will now be owned, managed and operated by phone giant Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT).

In support of an earlier application filed before the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Philcom Inc.—in a manifestation submitted to the agency—said it owns a total of 8 million shares in Philcom Corp., representing all its issued and outstanding capital stocks.

Philcom Corp. currently manages the parent firm’s telephone and other telecom services in some areas in Mindanao as a result of the latter’s reorganization.

Philcom Corp. executed in January a deed of assignment in favor of PLDT conveying all of its sale shares consisting of 8 million shares. “The said conveyance by Philcom Inc. to PLDT of the said shares of stock will vest in PLDT the controlling interest in Philcom Corp.,” said Philcom Inc., which now seeks the nod of the NTC to approve the deed of assignment of shares between the companies.

Upon the execution of the deed of assignment, PLDT will manage, operate and maintain telephone and other telecommunications services in certain areas in Mindanao.

Philcom Corp. operates in the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Basilan, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Misamis Oriental, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur. It also has 16 local exchanges in Mindanao including Cagayan de Oro, Panabo and Butuan City .

Among its other services, Philcom Corp. also offers Voice Connect Direct Access, which is dedicated to private telephone lines, a service that provides connection for large volume of domestic and international long-distance traffic, and Internet access, providing customers with the required bandwidth to connect to the Internet utilizing any form of last-mile facility from domestic private line to wireless connection.

It has 26 interconnection agreements and more than 16 overseas correspondent relationships. They include PLDT, Globe Telecom Inc., Smart Communications Inc., Bayan Telecommunications Inc., Eastern Telecommunication Philippines Inc., Digital Telecommunications Philippines Inc., Bell Telecoms, Next Mobile and Express Telecom. It also has tieups with Australia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, the US, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand.

Earlier, PLDT said it bought all of Philcom Corp.’s liabilities from Premier Global Resources Corp. (PGRC) for P340 million. PGR is a separate company that held all of Philcom Corp.’s debts.

The phone giant’s acquisition will allow the PLDT group to broaden its presence in Mindanao, where it already has operations carried out under PLDT-Maratel Inc. and Smart Broadband, Inc. “This expanded presence is expected to benefit not only the existing subscribers in the area, but provides the communities in the area an opportunity to access improved telecommunications facilities,” PLDT had said.

Butuan – Dr. Potenciano Malvar slowly re-claiming parcels of land donated by his late father Severo Malvar to the city government.

This is contained in a 5-page decision of the Regional Trial Court 10th Judicial Region Branch 3 signed by Judge Francisco Maclang on the approved Compromise Agreement signed and entered into between Malvar’s family represented by Dr. Potenciano Malvar and the city government of Butuan represented by Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II.

The more or less 16,137 square meters actual existing open space of the city hall complex including the area presently being occupied by the Sangguniang Panglunsod, old City Mayor’s Office Building, and the old City Treasurer’s Office are now being re-claimed by the Malvar’s for future site development.

The city government has only up to December 31, 2011 to affect a demolition order of the old City Mayor’s Office and old City Treasurer’s Office, while the demolition of the SP Building shall be completed not later than December 31, 2015.

The old General services Office Building however was not included by the demolition order.

The Malvar family will develop tMalvar Family Re-claiming Old City Hall Complex and Park of Regional Museumhe site for the beautification of a Promenade and Tree Park Project but with the stipulation, that this will be jointly supervised, managed or coordinated jointly with the city government.

It was also predetermined on the said compromise agreement, that the project’s repair and maintenance costs shall be shouldered by the Malvar’s while the lighting of the completed project shall be borne by the city government.

Furthermore, Malvar family successfully convinced the court for the city government to return back the donated lot consisting an area of more than 4,000 square meters in Doongan in exchange of the more than 1,000 square meters expansion of Employees Village Road and the almost 2,000 square meters as a site for the construction of a Fire or Police Station located in Langihan area.

Reaching such agreement, both parties now waive all claims and counterclaims against each other in their civil case pending before the RTC Branch 3 and prevented both parties to abandon any present or future claims and interests regarding all the donated lots.

Malvar Family Re-claiming Old City Hall Complex and Park of Regional MuseumIn a related development, portion of Butuan Regional Museum has been re-claimed by Dr. Malvar and constructed a gate on the right side portion of the museum’s park and lagoon bridge.

The construction started this weekend without the knowledge of the Regional Museum’s OIC Mr. Lenricon Concon but says; there was communication between the Malvar’s and officials from National Museum in Manila to open the park to public until 11 in the evening.

As per records, Butuan Regional Museum covers an area of 1.9 hectares but only 16,000 square meters are titled where the building is erected. The whole area was also part of the lot donated by the late Malvar to the city government who subsequently donated it to the museum.

once the demolition of the old site is completed...we shall see a mini city within a city..."Millenium City" - owned by the Malvar's...whose real estate interests range from resorts, hotels, subdivisions in Manila, Antipolo and Butuan

while the old SP Building will found a new home in this soon landmark within the City Hall Complex...

NATASHA BUILDING UPDATE (As of 7/30/09)

http://img195.yfrog.com/img195/3204/dsc02572j.jpg

While I was taking a few snapshots of this building, the guard saw me
& waved me off. I am always traumatized with this kind of reactions But
I can't blame them also. I have no business being there you know. My
brother had warned me many times to be careful about taking pictures
kay kung makit-an ko, for sure, badlungon ko.Ang guard man gud mura'g
suko kulang nalang silbatuhan ko...hehehe.

BELOW is a REPOST of how NATASHA's Side Angle looks like during their
first stage of construction. Wa na ko ni dare kuha pic again noh, kay
tua ra ang guard...kahadlok...

It may not be just their headquarters regj, DAKU kaau siya tan-awon kung mag side view ang building, pataas nga mura ug Department store. Also, nganong naa may naka advertise sa tarp sa gate nga SOON TO OPEN? meaning, soon to open to the public? Maybe, di ba? This could be their store outlet for their exclusive products. Bale, diretso na ka buy, no need to order through a dealer.

In CDO, my cousin told me, the NATASHA is a three storey building.

Kung tan-awon nimo ang FRONTAGE sa building mura'g gamay.BUT
pataas siya padung sa likod & it looks HUGE.

you know ate bunns thats one of the hazards in taking pictures. Some might misinterpret it that you are spying. Or some just feel uneasy when someone take their pictures.

As an unsolicited advice, try to find a place to take a shot where you are not prominent. You might take it from behind an electric post or you take a long distance shot with a higher pixel and photoshop it later.

Sometime prudence might help if on certain occasions you take a shot or not. Choose the right timing, the right surrounding and the right people when you take a shot.

as you can see the data of Agusan Provinces, have you not noticed that there are more 1st class municipalities of Agusan del Sur than of Agusan del Norte.... I think that's one of the reasons why ADN is one of the poorest provinces in PI as well as Surigao del Norte...

ang data nimo Rex 2000 pa. 2009 na baya karon, ADN is not in the list of the poorest provinces. Ang basis sa pagkapoor sa province ay POVERTY INCIDENCE. Mas daghan pobre sa ADS kaysa ADN.

Hello BXU! Good evening!

Jollibee is using 100% beef from Australia. By the way BXU-GCP, how did you know that McDo and Jollibee are using extenders? Do you have friends from the commissaries of both fastfood chains?

yes I have a friend at Jollibee Center in Ortigas. Dormate ko siya before sa UP-Diliman. It is true Jollibee is using 100% beef from Australia. Meaning they do not use beef from other places. But as far as the patties are concerned may mga extenders na siya in order to lower down the cost. Jollibee is always doing research and development to make their burgers palatable despite the presence of extenders.

Butuan, Bureau of Fire Protection conduct 1st Fire and Rescue Olympics
by Jocelyn Morano

Butuan City (July 30) -- 34 fire brigade volunteers grouped into 5 from 12 urban barangays compete in fire containment techniques namely: fire hose relay, fire fighting apparel fire hose relay, fire fighting apparel fire hose relay with busted hose replacement, rescue event, and bucket suppression event.

The Firelympics tests the readiness of newly graduates fire brigade volunteers under the Deputized Out of School Youth-Community Auxiliary Response Emergency Scouts or DOY CARES who went rigorous training last month and now become part of the city government's Deputized DSART Patrol, an emergency unit tasked to respond to any emergencies and calamities.

"These men and women are trained to safeguard their homes during a fire until the fire services from the BFP arrive. As first responders in the barangay, these volunteers are equipped with the basic knowledge in preventing fires from spreading and help the Bureau of Fire Protection in educating members of the community ways to prevent fire," said SFO2 Bomel Lofranco of the City Fire Department.

Fire fighting suppression techniques are well executed by Firelympic competitors and were assessed by their performance to show good signs that they are ready to face any eventualities in their respective barangays.

In the coming months, the city government and the BFP will replicate DOY CARES to cover the 86 barangays as part of its initiatives that enhance community safety citing the invaluable role these volunteer teams can take in property protection and save lives.

The 1st Fire and Rescue Olympics is an undertaking by the City Disaster Coordinating Council in coordination with the City's Bureau of Fire Protection. (Radyo ng Bayan Butuan/PIA-Caraga) [top]

Caraga coops show resiliency amidst crisis
by Lovely Laudette Gamba

Butuan City (July 30) -- Caraga cooperatives show resiliency amidst the present economic crisis and even has higher survivability rate compared to business name registration. This is revealed during the press conference at the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) regional office, here, in this city, recently.

Director Manuela Pelaez of CDA Caraga disclosed that as of June 2009, the registered cooperatives in the region are 2,792 but only 1,198 are operating, others are non-operating, dissolved or cancelled. The figure translates to 42.9 percent survivability of the cooperatives.

"As of June 2009, we have 2,792 registered coops but only 1,198 are operating, others are non-operating, dissolved or cancelled," relates Director Pelaez

Director Brielgo Pagaran of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) added that the figure is considerably higher than that of the business name registration of DTI.

"… that figure is higher compared to our business name registration. Usually after five years, very few, probably less than 40 percent of the registered business names renew," bared Director Pagaran.

It was learned during the press conference that despite the present economic crisis there are still windows of opportunity that exporters and cooperatives could exploit.

Ms. Leonor Calo, Chairperson of PhilExport Caraga said that despite the present crisis, Filipino products continue to attract foreign buyers, boasting that there are plenty of new and emerging products in the region that could well make it to the international market.

"We have plenty of new and emerging products that have export quality. I encourage the cooperatives to attend trainings to improve their products because it does have potentials," enthused Mrs. Calo.

Director Manuela Pelaez opens up that she hopes to see Caraga as the center or the heart of the furniture industry in the country.

"Considering that Caraga is a timber region, I hope one day that the region we'll become the heart of the furniture industry in the country," says Director Pelaez.

Director Pelaez relates that the furniture association is one of the strongest cooperative in the region and has in fact just recently won a P2.9 million bid for classroom armchairs at DepEd Caraga. She stressed that if the furniture coop could sustain, this could be a wonderful beginning for the furniture industry in the region.

The press conference is conducted in line with the celebration of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development (MSMED) month celebration. Cooperatives are considered one of the many composite sectors of MSME.

"In a spirit of solidarity in the celebration of the MSMED month, we have conducted this press conference, considering the fact that cooperative is one of the composite sectors of MSME," says Director Pelaez. (PIA-Caraga) [top]

JICA's World Mission team visits DAR Agusan Norte agrarian reform communities
by Gil T. Miranda

Butuan City (July 28) -- Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) World Mission Team recently visited some DAR-assisted ARCs in Agusan del Norte to document JICA's interventions and its impact to the community.

Findings will become part of commitment to the Japan's Publics by remaining transparent through publication and brochures, as well as "Network," on their quarterly newsletter, it was learned.

JICA's Journalist Daigo Ozawa and Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Support Projects (ARISP) Consultants headed by Yukihiro Kawahara with DAR Regional Director Elmo A. Bañares and PARO Andre B. Atega, VI made a courtesy call to Agusan del Norte Governor Erlpe John M. Amante.

During the courtesy call, Governor Amante commended JICA for investing in five (5) Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs) in Agusan del Norte which benefitted more than 247 million pesos worth of projects through the DAR-ARISP II).

"All of these projects could not be done by the province alone. But with the help of DAR-ARISP II, the province will be able to serve its people through Foreign Assisted Projects (FAPs) particularly from JICA", Governor Amante said.

Governor Amante reiterated his all-out support to the JICA's interventions especially the newly-approved ARISP-III projects in TAGBABAPSA ARC that will be implemented soon in this province.

Some ARCs they visited were Basag and LATASS ARCs wherein millions of projects had been poured-out in the past five years. The Agrarian Information & Marketing Center (AIM-C), which is the only kind of project in the Philippines and located in the heart of Butuan City, was the focus of the visit.

JICA's Mission Team is actively building awareness of Japan's investment to build food security and to fight poverty not only in Philippines but for the whole world. (DAR-Agusan del Norte/PIA-Caraga)

Most Mindanao projects completed, Dureza says
by JMD Abangan

Davao City (28 July) -- MOST of the big-ticket projects for Mindanao have been completed, Mindanao development in-charge Jesus Dureza aired his assessment of President Gloria Arroyo's accomplishment in an interview over a local morning television program.

"Kadaghanan sa iya mga giplano for Mindanao hapit na mahuman,'" he said while noting that infrastructure projects are due to get done by December this year.

Dureza who used to sit as the chief of the Mindanao Economic Development Council before serving as the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process and then later as the press secretary believed that Mindanao gets a substantial share of the infrastructure projects implemented during President Arroyo's administration.

In her previous State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Arroyo clustered areas in the country into so-called "super regions" which include the North Luzon Agribusiness Quadrangle, Luzon Urban Beltway, Central Philippines, Mindanao Agribusiness, the Cyber Corridor.

Data from the Philippine Information Agency national office showed that the 6 projects put on the ground in the Mindanao Agribusiness areas had been completed as of April 2009.

Among the reported completed projects in Mindanao are the Cagayan de Oro Port; the Davao Port ; Diosdado Macapagal Bridge or the Butuan-Magsaysay Bridge; the 210 MW Clean Coal-Fired Power Plant in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental; the Jatropha Nurseries in General Santos City; and the Solar Power Plant in Cagayan de Oro.
