yup Reg...they are priority BUT not on the top.....if you also take note...Quezon City (which is one of the richest LGU in the country) does not have a public owned major gym or coliseum...and uses private ones like that of Araneta Coliseum...

I agree with you... concert events can be in an open field like in Otis Mall parking area... we need more hotels for the convention events.... i hope Prince Condotel will have their conversion once finished.

Dottie's Grand Con for instance can accomodate 1200 ...so is Almont at 1500...and Balanghai with 1800-2000 capacity... Luciana can accomodate 500

Passed by Philippine National Bank just a while ago...nag butang sila ug stage with sound system sa gawas sa building...murag naay concert hahaha

for me ok lang nga nasunog ang gym kay dli man sya siya best location.... dapat jud i give way na diha nga lugar sa ANHS kay murag ni grabe jud ang population nila... the best location jud tong diha sa ampayon for the coliseum... build more multiple classroom for ANHS considered the biggest school in caraga.

mas daku pa man gani ang gym sa NORMISIST compare sa dating gym sa BXU... i think 5 plus ang capacity sa NORMISIST Sanchez Gym.

You mean, there's another concert at PNB area also? I passed by DBP (Development Bank of the Philippines) this afternoon, And I saw some tents & a stage being set up in that vacant lot next to the bank.

At around 5 this afternoon, grabeee ang traffic as in bumper to bumper from Montilla blvd to JCAA going Libertad. Around 6:30, when my sister arrived home, grabe iyang saput because JCAA is closed to traffic due to this concert daw? & she had no choice but to pass by Ochoa which is even worst. She was trapped in the jam for almost 20 minutes.Kulang nalang daw mag binanggaay ang mga sakyanan kay nobody would want to give way.

I just fetched my brother kanina sa ilang acquaintance party sa TCA, grabe ka bibo ba sa dalan karon. Ang kadtong mga tawong walay ticket, kalooy pod nila kay nag tindog tindog ra sa gawas sa perimeter. Also, the perimeter is protected by PNP Scouts so way makalusot. :lol: Pag labay nako nag perform ang banda ug Please Don't Stop the Music by Rihanna and then pag uli namo, nag perform sila ug Dangerous by Akon ft. Kardinal Offishall.

Yup, me and my uncle Bob witnessed the vibrant and colorful fireworks just a while ago.

ako when I was in college, i used to be with my group for our thesis... most of the time during group study.... murag inom jud ang padulngan... hehehe but we stayed in our classmates house... so nice man sad ang ilang family... didto me sa obrero sa una... mas nice pa ang life nako when i was in college compare to highschool... kay sus pastilan 37 ra man tawon mi sa highschool... hehehe 1 section pa jud.. graduate mi 37 ra jud... haskang mingawa... mga pinili-an tawon to nga students... ehem...heheheh but during my college life, i was busy becuase of these extra curricular activities... i used to be campus voice member... again akong kauban si Trini ladringan-velasco sa choir... hehehe then i used to be a senator of SSG-Student supreme govt.. then apil sad ko sa mga sports sa among college (IT)... so busy jud akong linya.. during my 1st year in college.. i joined dance troop pero gipili nako ang choir kay malingaw ko... hehehehe

SOUTHWEST MONSOON (HANGING HABAGAT) BRINGS MORE RAINS

MANILA, August 9, 2005 (STAR) By Rudy Fernandez - The "hanging habagat" or southwest monsoon has arrived in the country, so the public should expect heavy rain for the next several weeks.

Exactly what is the southwest monsoon?

In a report prepared by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), this natural phenomenon gets its start during the summer months in the northern hemisphere, when the Asiatic continent becomes warmer than the surrounding seas.

As a result, a low-pressure area develops over the continent. This happens when a large mass of air rises, causing low pressure in the area the mass left empty and inducing air from over the ocean to flow towards the continent.

The winds, rushing toward the low-pressure area, carry heat and water vapor which, when passing across the Philippines, becomes the prevailing winds in the country.

"This is what is locally known as the ‘habagat,’ the southwest monsoon," the report said.

The "habagat" refers to the flow of very humid wind, which ranges from a perceptible amount of moisture to the point of being oppressive. The phenomenon occurs from June to September.

The airflow is sometimes strong, especially when a storm is over Taiwan. The accompanying rains last for many days or even weeks.

The report said it is the country’s western portion that receives a substantial amount of rainfall while the southwest monsoon holds sway over the Philippines.

The DOST said the onset of habagat is usually first noted in Palawan, followed by Negros and Panay. Much later, the phenomenon reaches Laoag City in Ilocos Norte. This happens around May 6 to June 19.

Meanwhile, the early peak of the southwest monsoon has been observed between July 5 and 9, while its late peak is over Coron, Palawan between Aug. 30 and Sept. 3.

The monsoon recedes, at the earliest, in Dumaguete City between Sept. 14 and 18, and at the latest over Coron between Nov. 7 and 11.

"The arrival of habagat is a gradual process starting with a transition period," the DOST report said.

In the Philippines, the transition period before the onset of the monsoon could vary from March to May. After these months, the atmosphere will change from extremely dry to highly humid, and light rains occur. Thunderstorms are also prevalent during these months.

"When the southwest monsoon starts to blow, we say, ‘Tag-ulan na naman (It’s the rainy season again).’ It’s the season to bring our umbrellas and raincoats. Unfortunately for our children, it is also the start of the school season," the DOST report said.:ohno:

It's okay Franz,that is expected. The first few weeks in college can be a lonely time since you're still adjusting to your new school and new sorroundings. But once you become comfortable na in the college setting, mukalit nalang pud unya kadaghan imong friends.

My sister went to fetch my nephew last night sa TCA around 11:00. The concert diha sa PNB was still in progress then. She actually used the word,"sosyal" in describing the stage set up of that concert. Ni gwapo daw tan-awon ang Montilla boulevard kay hayag kaau. Very festive ang party atmosphere.

The rain won't stop the concert, they have spotlights which will move the rain-bearing clouds away from the venue hahaha... maygani kagabii kay taligsik ra tungod atong spotlight nila.

I went to Gmall after church this morning, there is a so called "A Fish Show For All" at the basement, it is a competition of Flowerhorn fishes and Betta Splenden fishes, another activity of the Flowerhorn Butuan and the City Government of Butuan in celebration of the 59th charter day.

There was also a Dog Show at FSUU Gym.

The National Statistics Office (NSO) announces the recruitment of applicants for 5-month training for Statisticians and Programmers. Interested applicants must meet the following qualifications: 1) completed a Bachelor�s degree either in Statistics, Mathematics or Engineering or any related degree with 21 units of Mathematics including Calculus from a recognized institution; 2) with good moral character; 3) Not more than thirty-five (35) years of age; 4) computer literate; and 5) preferably with CS eligibility.

All branches of Davao Savings Bank closed many years ago pa. Prudential Bank stopped their operation this year when Prudential Life Plan's headquarters trasferred to Davao due to cross cutting daw of expenses. Wala pay Security Bank here in Butuan.

PWDs pour out grievances over ill-implemented laws

Butuan City (July 31) -- Persons with disabilities (PWDs) poured out their grievances over what they claimed as ill implemented laws on differently-abled individuals during the Industry Forum on Legislation, Policies and Guidelines for PWDs, here, this city, recently.

PWDs present during the forum reveal that the law is not well implemented. They clamor for the implementation of the accessibility law and the 20 percent discount on medicines.

"30 years after the enactment of Batas Pambansa 344 or the accessibility law, most buildings in Butuan still don't have accessibility features, even a ramp," laments Mr. Ritchie Ravelo, Butuan Association of Differently-Abled Persons (BADAP).

Jonathan Tuan, a PWD disclose that he was never able to avail of the 20 percent discounts on medicines. He said that even though his disability is obvious, pharmacies asked for IDs and medicine prescription before they can avail of the discount.

"I have been a PWD since birth and I have never been able to avail of the 20 percent discount on medicines. It seems there are always requirements they need before giving us the 20 percent discount," relates Jonathan Tuan.

Others divulge that there are some pharmacies that do not really give discounts despite having IDs and prescriptions.

The PWDs also push for the deletion of the "mentally and physically fit" clause in the qualification advertisements of establishments so as not to discourage PWDs from applying for the job.

During the forum, it was learned that despite laws relative to the rights and privileges of disabled persons to equal opportunity for employment, few PWDs are formally employed because of limitations set by establishments both public and private.

Although the provision of RA 7277 states that 5% of all casual, emergency and contractual positions shall be required for disabled person, few establishments even government offices employed PWDs.

DOLE as the mandated agency to promote employment admits that the employment of PWDs is one of their weakest links.

"Despite the provisions of the law, few PWDs are formally employed. Even government offices do not follow the requirement that 5 percent of their employees should be PWDs," disclosed Director Chona Mantilla of DOLE. (PIA-Caraga)

2 HS students in Butuan City found positive for AH1N1

Butuan City (31 July) -- School administrators has decided to suspend classes in all levels in Agusan National Highschool (ANHS) starting today until August 6 after a meeting with officials from the Department of Health with Dep Ed Officials this morning to prevent the spread of swine flu, taking into consideration the need to protect the more or less 9,000 students from contracting the deadly A(H1N1) as 2 third year students were tested positive for Influenza A(H1N1).

Mr. Peter Esterioso, Principal of ANHS revealed, a total of 19 students underwent swab tests after showing flu like symptoms, and it was only yesterday that he was informed by DOH Caraga that 2 students were tested positive for A(H1N1) prompting him to immediately called off the class in direct contact with them.

Dr. Gerna Manatad-Regional Epidemiologist explained that the cancellation of classes was implemented for students to observe self-quarantine.

Health authorities are now currently investigating and doing contact tracing and have already informed the students and faculty who were in the same class as the confirmed case to do self-monitoring of symptoms at home and to report immediately if they become ill.

Since May 23, 2009, the DOH has monitored a total of 50 Cases Under Obseervation (CUO's), 20 are positive A(H1N1) cases, 5 have pending laboratory results, 24 are negative for A(H1N1) and 1 positively linked to a confirmed A(H1N1). There are 10 confirmed A(H1N1) cases recorded on June 19 to 25.

Laboratory confirmed A(H1N1) cases in Caraga Region as of July 27 revealed, there 3 in Agusan del Norte, 7 in agusan del Sur, 1 in Surigao del Sur, 1 in Surigao City and 8 in Butuan City.

Meanwhile, DOH Regional Director Leonita Gorgolon appealed to students and school staff of ANHS to temporarily avoid going to malls and other crowded areas during the period of class suspension. (Radyo ng Bayan Butuan)

Three pep squads with their own official drummers’ chants their most popular cheer in Butuanon dialect during the cheerdance competition.

Declared champion for two consecutive years is the Butuan City Schools of Arts & Trade Butuan Celebrates 59th Adlaw Hong Butuan(BCSAT) receiving a cash price of 15,000 pesos, while the Agusan National High School (ANHS) and Libertad National High School got the 2nd and 3rd prize respectively.

Entry 9 from the DILG Family comprising the Bureau of Fire, Bureau of Jail and Management and the PNP won 1st prize with a 50,000 cash prize for the Grand Float Competition, followed by the City Schools Division of the Department of Education who was awarded with a 30,000 cash prize, while Butuan City Water District won 3rd place.

The distribution of 36 multicabs, 1 ambulance, 1 patrol car and 3 fire trucks by Congressman Jose Aquino II became the best part of the activity well applauded by the crowd.

The turn over of keys to City Fire Marshall Rey Restauro, Butuan Medical Center Chief Dr. Butuan Celebrates 59th Adlaw Hong ButuanJoyce Hidalgo, and City Police Director Joseph Plaza was witnessed by DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno with the presence of City Tourism Council Chairperson Daisy B. Plaza and members of the Sangguniang Panglunsod.

Congressman Aquino in his speech reiterated his commitment to the DILG family and said, “The new patrol vehicle will boost the police visibility and response operation Butuan City, while the new fire truck is a big help to the BFP’s operation during fire incidents.”

The fire trucks being utilized in the City’s Bureau of Fire was acquired in 1992.

In the afternoon, the City Veterinary Office sponsored an all Breed Fun Match Show and employees of the city government enjoyed the night with Christian Bautista during the Employees Night held at city hall grounds, while people watched and dance the SMB Party.

Newly Acquired Pump Boats, Tourist Friendly for a River Cruise Project

Butuan – The 2.5 million peso allocation from the Department of Tourism for the implementation of Butuan City’s Agusan River Development Project falls short of budget.

City Tourism Officer Ayeth Guno said the construction of 1 boat costs a whooping 1.5 million pesos.

However, after 2 pump boats were launched last May, it remains on dock and not yet operational.

The newly acquired two 30 seater Agusan River pump boats is currently being improved to provide convenience and comfortability to local and foreign tourists on river cruise along Agusan River.

According to City Tourism Officer Ayeth Guno, the bottom has been changed into a plastic fiber glass for durability; the floors and seats will be upholstered, and it will be equipped with sound systems and own comfort room.

Furthermore, the boat’s design was not patterned to Balanghai contrary to what people are expecting and Ms. Guno explained that Balanghai boat was designed for traders and is not tourist friendly because it doesn’t provide the comfort compared to the Agusan River pump boats the city government build.

It is to be recalled, that it was announced by Caraga Region’s Cabinet Officer for Regional Development (CORD) and Department of Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano during his visit in Butuan that a total of 2.5 million was allocated through DOT Regional Office for the immediate implementation of the Agusan River Cruise Development Project.

It was envisioned by the Secretary to produce another tourist attraction activity in Butuan,IMG_0283 replicating the world famous Loboc River Cruising of Bohol.

To date, the City Tourism Office has yet to come up with an operational plan in managing the Agusan River Cruise while the City Tourism Council are studying the possibilities whether to turn-over the projects’ full management control to the City Economic Enterprise or to a private sector.

“The city government is planning to construct wharfs that will serve as waiting areas for those who will experience river-cruising and rest assured, once operational the River Cruise Project will attract more tourists and Butuanons will have their chance to enjoy a one of a kind historical cruise”, Ms. Guno added.

70 couples say “I do” during Butuan City's 59th anniversary celebration

BUTUAN CITY, Aug. 3 (PNA) -– At least 70 couples said “I do” simultaneously during a city government-sponsored mass wedding in line with the “Adlaw Hong Butuan” (Day of Butuan) 59th founding anniversary celebration Sunday.

The civil mass wedding activity was officiated by Mayor Democrito Plaza II, and fully supported by the Butuan City Tourism Council spearheaded by his wife, former Mayor Leonides B. Plaza.

Some of them already with children and grandchildren, the ages of the newly-wed couples range from 25 to 70 years. They were given cakes and souvenirs.

The mass wedding activity is a yearly program of the city government.

“This is our commitment to families because a blessed couple will lead to harmony and key to love, oneness, progress and prosperity,” said Mrs. Plaza.

After the wedding ceremony, the newly-married couples expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the city government.

Meanwhile, a grand parade and day-long festivities participated in by department heads and division chiefs and other line agencies of the city government and non-government organizations also took place during the “Adlaw Hong Butuan” 59th founding anniversary celebration.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Ronaldo Puno was the guest of honor and speaker during the program held at the jump-packed Butuan City Sports Complex program at Barangay Libertad here.

Some artists and TV personalities from Manila also participated in the day-long program of activities. (PNA)

Guys, about that Rob & SM branches plan in Butuan mentioned sa OZamiz Thread, let's cross our fingers that this time, it's not just rumors anymore. yup yup...I just noticed that too....but what impressed me more is the presence of bakeries/bakeshops in almost every nook in the city...pagkahilig ba sa mga tao eat ug bread :eat::eat:

Siguro mao na sad ni nga time that beautification will be given more attention na to our Montilla Boulevard.PALM trees will be a dream come true na to regjeex :lol: And like you said, taxis will be more visible na by this time since this area is quite far from the city proper. Boy killed as grenade explodes in Butuan City

MANILA, Philippines – A 14-year old boy died when a grenade exploded in a remote village in Butuan City Monday morning, a police official said on Tuesday.

The boy, identified as Jonathan Arcella, suffered severe shrapnel wounds resulting into his immediate death, said Senior Superintendent Nestor Fajura, operations chief of Caraga police.

Th incident happened in the village of Anticala in an abandoned lot previously owned by Sky Forest Incorporated, a logging company operating in the city, Fajura said.

Iit was unclear however whether the grenade was thrown by a suspect or it was dug up by the boy, he added.

Fajura said authorities have dismissed extortion as the motive behind the incident.

“SFI has stopped operations as early as December 2008. The area is already abandoned,” he said in a phone interview.

Authorities have difficulty determining the circumstances surrounding the incident because of the lack of witnesses.

But Fajura said police were looking at two angles in the incident: either someone had a grude on Arcella and threw a grenade at him or he was able to dig up an old grenade and accidentally pulled its pin, causing the explosion.

I like their Lechon. Diha man mi sa ila magpa-lechon during occasions. Kusog pod ning Bantilan ayy...labi na kung Christmas ug New Year, taas kaayo ang pila sa mga tao ug sakyanan :lol:
