BOB-bXu January 31st, 2007, 06:53 PM dont you worry because Asian Spirit or SeAir might buy those old planes by Cebu Pacific and use them as their new fleet BOB-bXu January 31st, 2007, 06:56 PM tulog nako James, GOOD MORNING PROGRESSIVE BUTUAN ! jameslab8470 January 31st, 2007, 06:58 PM Im looking forward to Asian Spirit by... I hop they will acquire not the DC - 9's but more on AVRO RJ(X) - 85 or RJ(X) - 100. Two of my most favorite aircrafts. hehe... They already acquired 1(?) RJ for some of their routes including manila - palau via Davao. I hope Asian Spirit will also acquire more of it and replace their old planes... :) jameslab8470 January 31st, 2007, 07:08 PM Creation of 12 new cities approved By MARIO B. CASAYURAN The Senate approved yesterday 12 House of Representatives bills creating 12 cities throughout the country. Before this legislative fiat, there were 118 cities in the nation. This brings to 130 the total number of cities in the Philippines. This came after Sen. Alfredo S. Lim, chairman of the Senate Local Government Committee, successfully led on the Senate floor the approval of the 12 House bills that had not been approved by three past Congresses. Lim said the attainment to cityhood of these municipalities would have a beneficial effect on their future as they can now undertake their own infrastructure projects as investors are likely to go to cities. A former Manila mayor, Lim said these new cities would also get bigger Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) from the national government depending on their population and area. Last Monday, the Senate passed a House bill converting San Juan, Metro Manila, the hometown of former President Joseph Estrada, into a city. The 12 new cities are Baybay (Leyte), Tayabas (Quezon), Catbalogan (Samar), Lamitan (Basilan), Tandag (Surigao del Sur), Tabuk (Kalinga), Batac (Ilocos Norte), Carcar (Cebu), Bayugan (Agusan del Sur), Cabadbaran (Agusan del Norte), Borongan (Eastern Samar), and Bogo (Cebu). Each of these 12 cities, according to Lim, has all the requisites for conversion into a component city based on the old requirements under Section 450 of the Local Government Code prior to its amendment by Republic Act (RA) 9009. These requirements, Lim said, are: 1. An average annual income as certified by the Department of Finance of at least R20 million for the last two consecutive years based on 1991 constant prices. 2. It has a contiguous territory of at least 100 square kilometers as certified by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). 3. It has a population of not less than 150,000 as certified by the National Statistics Office (NSO). Lim said all the 12 were categorized as first-class municipalities with gross income of at least R70 million as of the 2005 Commission on Audit (CoA) report. jameslab8470 January 31st, 2007, 07:11 PM So all in all, 6 cities na ang Caraga Region: Agusan del Norte: BUTUAN CITY City of Cabadbaran Agusan del Sur: City of Bayugan Surigao del Norte: SURIGAO CITY Surigao del Sur: City of Tandag Bislig City gi all caps nako ang two cities because mao ni ang duha sa pinakadako na ciudad sa rehiyon sa Caraga. :) Congrats!!! BAKEKANG January 31st, 2007, 07:20 PM Unsay mall diha sa Butuan nga humana ug ginatukod pa? jameslab8470 January 31st, 2007, 07:44 PM Gaisano Mall Butuan, Otis Mall.... SM City Butuan ---> on going pa ang fesibility study BOB-bXu February 1st, 2007, 04:47 AM the creation of newer cities will significantly lower the IRA to current cities. even as medium sized and highly urbanized class like Butuan will be affected kay madaghan naman ang magbahin sa IRA among cities. BOB-bXu February 1st, 2007, 04:52 AM Unsay mall diha sa Butuan nga humana ug ginatukod pa? naay mga properties ang mga mall operators, local companies like Ororama has aproperty already at Vila Kanangga Sout Montilla Blvd. but the 5 hectare property is awaiting development pa. also there's this big property along Capitol Ave. owned by the provincial government eyed as Capitol Commercial Center with partnership with Land Bank, still awaiting development. then there's this 3 hectare lot along JC Aquino owned by Plaza Realty. the lot is still leasd to a local native restaurant. But as soon as the lease expires, theyre going to build their mall too. I saw their rendering before. and of course, hopefully Robinsons and Shoemart whose representations were made by them to the mayors office last year regarding their intent of entering the city. as to when?....hopefully soon jameslab8470 February 1st, 2007, 05:01 AM Nag abot na sad ta! hehe the creation of newer cities will significantly lower the IRA to current cities. even as medium sized and highly urbanized class like Butuan will be affected kay madaghan naman ang magbahin sa IRA among cities. Mao ba? dili diay nila increasan? that would be unfair man gud... two cities will sharew the same IRA sa Agusan del Norte.... bati jameslab8470 February 1st, 2007, 05:03 AM naay mga properties ang mga mall operators, local companies like Ororama has aproperty already at Vila Kanangga Sout Montilla Blvd. but the 5 hectare property is awaiting development pa. also there's this big property along Capitol Ave. owned by the provincial government eyed as Capitol Commercial Center with partnership with Land Bank, still awaiting development. then there's this 3 hectare lot along JC Aquino owned by Plaza Realty. the lot is still leasd to a local native restaurant. Sabi ng Otis, sa kanila yung lupa... they would like to use it na to build a mall there... Musta na ang kaso? last thing i remember, nasa court of appeals na ang case BOB-bXu February 1st, 2007, 05:27 AM Nag abot na sad ta! hehe Mao ba? dili diay nila increasan? that would be unfair man gud... two cities will sharew the same IRA sa Agusan del Norte.... bati they will not be shared within a specific provincial unit nor region, but would be divided among the national level. pero they will divide it/allocating the IRA according to income class, population size etc. jameslab8470 February 1st, 2007, 05:30 AM This SSC News - Caraga Weather Report is brought to you by: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g303/jameslab8470/Butuan/balanghai02posterjpg.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g303/jameslab8470/feb01.jpg The whole Caraga Region will still experience scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to Inter Tropical Convergence Zone or ITCZ. Butuan City, though mostly cloudy the whole day, will still have a high of 23 degrees Celsius. While Surigao and Tandag Cities will have 21 degrees Celsius. Bayugan and Cabadbaran cities, on the other hand, will have a slightly cooler temperature of 19 degrees Celsius.. Now, back to the discussion... The SSC News - Caraga Weather Report was brought to you by: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g303/jameslab8470/Butuan/balanghai02posterjpg.jpg jameslab8470 February 1st, 2007, 05:31 AM out na ko BOB - bXu.. late na ako wa work. hehe BOB-bXu February 1st, 2007, 05:32 AM Yup. and also BOB-bXu, remember mo pa ba yung issue sa new society village? Sabi ng Otis, sa kanila yung lupa... they would like to use it na to build a mall there... Musta na ang kaso? last thing i remember, nasa court of appeals na ang case yes, but I think the Chans are not too keen of aggressively pursuing the case kay dugay na kaayo and the cost of the civil case is escalating considering the number of occupants/claimants sa property. I think the case of the Chans with the Stephen Gaisano is not yet resolved because that contested property near Caraga Square and Otis Superstore at Montilla Blvd. Aquino ave is still untouched by both groups. the issue started when in 1987, Stephen Gaisano bought the lot adjacent to Otis. but the property has a problem with frontage becasue the Chans owned this strip of land along JC Aquino. so a court case ensued because Otis built a permanent 2 storey structure thus obstructing Gaisano's frontage. That Gaisano (coined as Gaisano Department Store at that time) is a planned 5 level department store sana. BOB-bXu February 1st, 2007, 05:55 AM Creation of 12 new cities approved By MARIO B. Lim said all the 12 were categorized as first-class municipalities with gross income of at least R70 million as of the 2005 Commission on Audit (CoA) report. out of the 12, majority of which are in CARAGA Region. I beleived its a demographic trend already in the region that there seems to be a shift of people from rural to urbanizing towns. though not directly implicated, the conversion of these cities could be a reflection of rural prosperity brought about by an increase in income and opportunities which the region is beginning to experience. the region is urbanizing, so as its main city of Butuan is 'metropolizing' ^^ boju February 1st, 2007, 06:01 AM So all in all, 6 cities na ang Caraga Region: Agusan del Norte: BUTUAN CITY City of Cabadbaran Agusan del Sur: City of Bayugan Surigao del Norte: SURIGAO CITY Surigao del Sur: City of Tandag Bislig City gi all caps nako ang two cities because mao ni ang duha sa pinakadako na ciudad sa rehiyon sa Caraga. :) Congrats!!! BOB-bXu February 2nd, 2007, 07:15 AM honestly mas ganahan ko na POLYCHROMATIC ang mga trike ug jeeps. especially if they are nicely painted with sceneries and well decorated with trimmings. I think it was 6 years ago when a group of councilors went to Olongapo to study their tranport system there. Then the next time the transport operators knew in Butuan ws that they are mandated to follow color coding for the trikes and jeeps and multicabs. pero the jeeps and multicabs opposed kay gastos mag pa repaint all over. the taxis are either yellow or green jameslab8470 February 2nd, 2007, 07:17 AM yup. gastos lang... pero okay man tan awon. hehe jameslab8470 February 2nd, 2007, 07:25 AM Waah!!! tita's Cafe... The Tree Garden is open. It is owned by one of the most stable bakeries in the city..Pilipino Bakery by the Dayans. The new building in front of Rizal Park in fact is owned by the owners of Tree Garden. pessimist ka pala James huh A sorry... open pa pala? kasi nung umuwi ako jan sa Butuan, nag suroy2x ko sa downtown... tapos, hanap ako makakain.. so i decided to go to tree garden... pero sarado xa when i got there.... tapos kinabukasan, punta parin ako, sarado rin... then the next day din, sarado pa rin... 3 straight days bai... so nag assume nalang ko na sarado na ang tree gardenn dont know why nag sara sila dat time BOB-bXu February 2nd, 2007, 08:25 AM I think they are due for renovations kay duol ra sila sa Red Apple. talking about competition jameslab8470 February 2nd, 2007, 08:27 AM a.. nicE! mas okay kung ganun.. Anyway, any other new projects sa Butuan? Yung area sa city hall? diba gagawing commercial district ang mga tabi? naa pay lain stores nag abli aside sa BEST BURGER in MINDANAO Uncle SAM's? hahaha BOB-bXu February 2nd, 2007, 08:34 AM yup that area around the city hall is actually owned by the Malvars. they own a big estate part of which is their hotel, The Balanghai Hotel and Convention Center. the area is classified as commercial district due to its proximity to Langihan. but most of the developments now are more with public buildings. the area is also the site of the proposed Central Bank Regional Office. Uncle Sam's days are counted as their lease daw is about to expire. I dont know when, but some said that the lot they are leasing will be taken back once the lease agreement expires by Plaza Realty for a commercial project kuno Smallville February 2nd, 2007, 08:35 AM out of the 12, majority of which are in CARAGA Region. I beleived its a demographic trend already in the region that there seems to be a shift of people from rural to urbanizing towns. though not directly implicated, the conversion of these cities could be a reflection of rural prosperity brought about by an increase in income and opportunities which the region is beginning to experience. the region is urbanizing, so as its main city of Butuan is 'metropolizing' ^^ How is it going folks? Bob, You are exactly right! This trend is not only going on in the Philippines but happening all over the world. I see it alot here in the United States. More and more people are migrating to the cities because that is where the jobs are. China is experiencing a huge migration from the rural areas to its' cities. Where my wife and I live in Winston Salem, North Carolina, USA has a population in the city similar to Butuan City but the metro has 1.5 million people. We are only the 33rd largest market in the United States. It is not rapid growth but steady growth. There are alot of Filipinos that live here. We have many big Hospitals. Our Hospitals are recruiting alot of great nurses from the Philippines. There is a huge shortage of nurses here in America. I know two more guys that live here that married ladies from Butuan City. Our next trip to Butuan City is July 2008. I would like to buy you guys lunch so we can sit down and talk about Butuan City and its' future. My wife and I are thinking about building a house there for when we retire. I am only in my mid thirties and my wife is in her mid twenties so we have a long way to go before we can retire but there is nothing wrong with planning ahead. Take Care jameslab8470 February 2nd, 2007, 08:39 AM the area is also the site of the proposed Central Bank Regional Office. Uncle Sam's days are counted as their lease daw is about to expire. We shall be looking forward to that day...a lunchdate with you and your wife here in Butuan. :) jameslab8470 February 2nd, 2007, 08:41 AM How is it going folks? Bob, You are exactly right! Take Care We are looking forward to meet you Smallville!... BOB-bXu February 2nd, 2007, 08:44 AM seems James here has lots of 'visions' for his beloved city of Butuan. right James? what are your visions for the city James ( let us say a 10 to 20 year time frame ) jameslab8470 February 2nd, 2007, 09:08 AM Lets see.... All Government offices are transferred to Rosales Avenue going to the City Hall. Uniform ang dating... every department has its own building. Maganda kasi ang location nya eh... Rosales Avenue is a good location for the govt offices.. to the north, ang City Hall. to the south, the Capitol.. face to face lang sila... Then along the Commercial Lot, department stores.. or even a Mall is placed there. The intersection on Rosales Avenue and JC Aquino Avenue (High way), a rotunda is placed. A big park, with a replica of the balanghai placed at the center, with lots of water works. The Gaisano Mall will be extended and will be its largest Mall in Northern Mindanao. The sports complex in Libertad will be finished and a big stadium will be built there... The Hall of Justice will be renovated. There's BIG lot there along JC Aquino near Hall of Justice... Pwede siguro Doon ilalagay ang Butuan Business Park... Pagmamay ari parin ng mga Ayala. Ayala Center Butuan nakalagay dun along with tall corporate buildings. Then kung mag Kahimunan Festival, dun magaganap ang fireworks display.... The Bancasi Airport will now become the Balanghai International Airport... I dont care if may international routes ang ma seserve nila... At least international standard ang Airport.... It will have 4 aerobridges, at least 5 times daily flight from manila, then at least 3 times daily flight to cebu, zamboanga and ilo ilo. Sa City Center, Otis will be number 1 agen, they will reconstruct their old department store and build a big mall sa area nila... the New Society village will be wiped out, Otis mall will also be erected there. The vacant lot near Santos Hospital (old Petron), a big hotel will be placed.... OR another park will do... The crown thrifti mart will an it building. from crown area to the theaters. it will house the call center companies that are present in Butuan. Signages onthe major roads will be placed.... especially along the Montilla Blvd.. Then sa south, where the 2nd Magsaysay Brdige is located (Macapagal Bridge), nan don ang SM. Around SM will be a country club, and villas, o d kaya mga villages na ala Xavier Estates. Only one flyover will be placed sa Butuan kasi malawak ang mga daan. less traffic. Urios University will now have its kalaban, the SJU, saint Joseph University (SJIT. hehe) Ano pa ba? hmmm... BOB-bXu February 2nd, 2007, 09:29 AM those government offices could not be occupying one long thorougfare side by side with commercial buildings. at least the city department offices then the regional offices are in Tiniwisan the park ? ...you mean a rotunda marker at the aquino-rosales junction? a marker/monument is very likely but a park would eat up a lot of road space Gaisano Mall..expansion is very likely because they still have a big space at the back of their mall. the Libertad Sports complex will be refurbished to international standards and ready for a Palaro...or even a venue for SEA Games jameslab8470 February 2nd, 2007, 09:58 AM yup... okay lang naman marker ilalagay sa gitna ng intersection sa rosales aquino... y man diay kung dako kelangan na space? hehe.. dako bitaw ang butuan in t erms of land area. :) jameslab8470 February 2nd, 2007, 12:32 PM Mingaw na lagi ang Butuan..... BOB-bXu February 2nd, 2007, 01:00 PM maybe they just had their diner...watching TV or watching the news.. or sleeping or perhaps out there having a chat with friends over cofee or perhaps preparing for a gimik later tonite. off internet siguro for a while. I am doing those things after this net session :) jameslab8470 February 2nd, 2007, 05:41 PM Good Morning Metro Butuan! and here is the latest forecast from the Weather Channel. Today will be a sunny day, although some parts of the day will be cloudy. Scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms still affect the North Butuan City. Right now, Butuan is having a cooler conditions at 23 degrees Celsius. Expect the temperature to reach at 28 degrees at noon time. Sunrise is at 5:59 am, and sunset will be at 5:44 pm. This weather report is brought to you by: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g303/jameslab8470/my_id.jpg jameslab8470 February 3rd, 2007, 09:45 PM Reflections of its Past, Lessons for the Future Guys, i found this one from the internet. A thesis of Mr. Greg Hontiveros. Some parts of his paper were some shocking revelations (or at least shocking para nako kay karon pa ko kabalo. hehe)... source: http://www.butuanglobalforum-bgf.org/pics/hcs.pdf Here are some points in his thesis na na interasado ko: for the full paper, click the link above. Corregimiento de Butuan in 1579 was established, a political subdivision of the Alcaldia-Mayor de Cebu, making it in one sense the first colonial local government unit in Mindanao. After 1879, the Butuan pueblo was subjected to the typical Spanish ownplanning. The present-day Rizal Park was the central plaza; to the west was the church, and right across it to the east was the Tribunal. At the north edge of the plaza was a road that ran east for 200 meters all the way to the riverbank where a small pier was located, the principal gateway to Butuan. It was in the second decade of American rule that the provincial government of Agusan built its capitol on the south side of the park. This building would in 1950 become the City Hall after the city charter was passed by Congress. Later, it was converted to a library, and from then on until the present it became the police station. This is Butuan’s last remaining pre-war public building, and there are proposals to restore and convert it into a city museum. It should not really come as a surprise that, given the deltaic character of Butuan, the ground is soft and soggy, and with the super-abundance of timber, nipa palm, rattan and bamboo versus the distant sources of rocks and coralstones, there are 10 no virtually permanent Spanish colonial buildings that exist. The nearest reference to Butuan’s Spanish heritage is the last remaining huge stone post embraced by the balite tree (and probably its flooring, if this is unearthed in the future) of the old church in Banza. Indeed, because of the dearth of building ruins, Butuan’s past should instead be physically envisaged by its numerous precolonial artifacts and the liturgical paraphernalia of the Spanish era. There is a tremendous challenge to Butuan on the preservation of its cultural heritage. In 1987, President Corazon Aquino issued Presidential Proclamation 150 designating Butuan City as an Archaeological Site, and the balanghai boat relics as National Cultural Treasures. Last year, the National Commission on Culture and Arts drew up a new Tentative List of sites to be considered for the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and the Butuan Archaeological Sites was among those included. jameslab8470 February 3rd, 2007, 10:04 PM ooops RCXsickboy February 4th, 2007, 05:43 AM ^^ waaaaa.... http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q83/RCXsickboy/smiLeys/sad.gif BOB-bXu February 4th, 2007, 10:41 AM James thats no longer a news, that was history. that article was written 'ages' ago showing an overreacting comments like that. Can you tell me what medium size to large size pinoy city that is basically free from such crimes as carnapping? that carnapping incident I believed were done by elements that are not based in Butuan but is a Mindanao wide organization. They can do their crime sporadically wherever the situation gives them the chance in the cities of Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, or Davao, and one day you will find your car in some storage place in Marawi with a different paint and a new chassis number. Unsafe? the fuck ! there's a bigger chance for you to die by being stabbed by an addict in Quiapo or Recto or even Parian or Taboan than here in Butuan. BOB-bXu February 4th, 2007, 10:52 AM subukan nga ni Censio Dy lumakad sa mga daan ng any southernmost pinoy city at the chances na ma kidnap siya or ma bomba is high....only then he will learn the meaning of the word unsafe ! jameslab8470 February 4th, 2007, 12:43 PM ei guys... any ideas about the thesis? ang news naman kasi ang cinocomment nyo eh. hehe... i deleted it na.. hehe jameslab8470 February 4th, 2007, 01:52 PM ei guys... i just met this guy and he made this site: http://www.insidecaraga.uk.to/ for updates on butuan and caraga region, you can find it all here BOB-bXu February 5th, 2007, 05:38 AM ni init lang ako ulo sa kadto na article. I think that article was a bit sensationalized, written by a budding, careless non-Butuanon who unfortunately became a newspaper correspondent for Phil Star in Butuan. BOB-bXu February 5th, 2007, 09:09 AM yup... okay lang naman marker ilalagay sa gitna ng intersection sa rosales aquino... y man diay kung dako kelangan na space? hehe.. dako bitaw ang butuan in t erms of land area. :) yup the city has a big land area....but they are not building enouigh green spaces and parks...except for that riverine park they are trying to build jameslab8470 February 5th, 2007, 01:17 PM ok BOB-bXu February 5th, 2007, 01:40 PM that site you gave James is quiet comprehensive..it does contain links of all Butuan news sites and even blogs nice :) jameslab8470 February 5th, 2007, 01:50 PM Yup.. hehe... sayang nga lang, wala maxado butuanons ang bumibisita... di kasi gaano makabayan ang mga butuanons, pansin ko lang... jameslab8470 February 5th, 2007, 01:54 PM Bai Bob, can u post some pics dun sa PNP Station sa Rizal Park? oldest daw yun sabi sa thesis... :) thanks! Sa montilla Blvd alone, you cna see that it has up to 3 to 4 lanes on each side. pero and 2 lanes, ginagamit for parknig purposes.. which is not good. I know that that there are big projects now in Butuan City. And these are already planned few years ago.. And also i know that they also monitor the city's budget whether they can pursue the project or not. And isa pa, Some of these big projects' budget came from the loaned money from japan (i think) and walang connection ang local budget dito... These big projects also are very important in Butuan city to make way for the local economy and tourism to rise. I hate Mr. Plaza before. But now, wat i see on his projects, is very helpful to Butuan City. D lang nakikita ng mga people directly. but let them wait 3 to 5 yrs from now. PLAZA! PLAZA! PLAZA! hehe.. joke! BOB-bXu February 13th, 2007, 01:20 PM OO!! Isa pod diay na!.. I hope that the government will put some actions to this one. Sa montilla Blvd alone, you cna see that it has up to 3 to 4 lanes on each side. pero and 2 lanes, ginagamit for parknig purposes.. which is not good. Oh and also the new sidewalk along Montilla Blvd, in front of Chinese School, nawawala ang beauty kasi dun nila nilalagay ang mga cases of beers sa sidewalk para sa mga beer house/ cafe's. pangit tingnan yeah, the Montilla Blvd walk is even used as the stage for those acoustic bands nila. But at least the boulevard area is revived na at night especially during weekend evenings I can recall my letter with attached photos of the then Montila Blvd estero ( now converted into a walk) addressed to the Sanggunian due to uncolected clutter.. jameslab8470 February 13th, 2007, 01:22 PM yeah, the Montilla Blvd walk is even used as the stage for those acoustic bands nila. But at least the boulevard area is revivd na at night especially during weekend evenings Yup. thats a god thing for Butuan. Pero sana naman, hipuson sad nila pag morning para limpyo tan awon. Ahehe. BOB-bXu February 13th, 2007, 01:26 PM what? i dont see it that way. PLAZA! PLAZA! PLAZA! hehe.. joke! they say that the projects are overpriced kuno. like this 7 Billion Port of Magellan proposal that city is pushing all these years. but siguro the critics are partly politicaly correct in the sense that the city should also provide or support aggressively social infrastructure as well. human infrastructure should go well hand in hand with physical infrastructures. its just like you are building those ultra modern bridges and highways and airports....yet the people might not enjoy thm because they do not have the means to buy a car or ride a plane to travel...waddya think bai James? jameslab8470 February 14th, 2007, 05:16 AM they say that the projects are overpriced kuno. like this 7 Billion Port of Magellan proposal that city is pushing all these years. but siguro the critics are partly politicaly correct in the sense that the city should also provide or support aggressively social infrastructure as well. human infrastructure should go well hand in hand with physical infrastructures. its just like you are building those ultra modern bridges and highways and airports....yet the people might not enjoy thm because they do not have the means to buy a car or ride a plane to travel...waddya think bai James? Overpriced ang 7 Billion pesos para sa Magellan Port? I think not... Mahal baya kaayo ang dredging palang daan. and I think ang 7 Billion pesos, kasali na ang maintenance. Mahirap baya i maintain ang port in a river, especially sa Agusan river kasi dali ra mumabaw. Ahehe.. And yep.. ur right.. it should go hand in hand with the human infra. BOB-bXu February 14th, 2007, 06:27 AM according to PPA, the International Port in Nasipit has limited space na daw for expansion, thats why they are finishing the 100 Million expansion of the port in Masao. Long term plan is the Port of Magellan. which will be at Pagatpatan and Lumbucan and inland towards the river. finishing?? so sinimulan na nila ang expansion sa Masao? Does that mean that some of the port calls sa mga shipping companies, doon na dadaong? BOB-bXu February 14th, 2007, 09:22 AM yep James, the project was bidded out early last year.. hopefully the project will be finished soon BOB-bXu February 14th, 2007, 09:25 AM finishing?? so sinimulan na nila ang expansion sa Masao? Does that mean that some of the port calls sa mga shipping companies, doon na dadaong? there are already ship calls at the port....dugay na gani though cargoes lang mostly of that of Escano Lines and some oil bulk cariers and cement cargo ships.. hopefully once the project is done, passenger ships will drop anchor at the port na jameslab8470 February 14th, 2007, 09:28 AM ah wait.. i think i read an articles about this before... Once a port daw somewhere in Butuan City is completed, all the domestic port calls ay dun na daw ilalagay.. the Nasipit port will be entirely for international services na daw... BOB-bXu February 14th, 2007, 09:34 AM thats good to hear....the proximity of Masao will surely bring down the freight and transport costs to the markets... I am preety sure too that a lot of travellers from other provinces in the CARAGA as well as Davao dl Norte, Oriental and ComVal will be using this port once the highway link will be fully completed jameslab8470 February 14th, 2007, 09:42 AM YUp... Masao Port will prosper. And isa pa... lalo lalaki ang pera sa Butuan! hehe... Pero im afraid for Nasipit... Kasi, diba The port has a great role sa income ng municipality? Eh pano kung wala na barko dun para domestic? E di international nalang? pero ang international services, mga once or twice a week lang meron eh... and puro cargo lang BOB-bXu February 14th, 2007, 09:50 AM dili man siguro because dako man pod ang ma income nila from cargo ships. it will cater to bulk carriers too. its nearness to Nasipit Industrial Estate will make its viability as international port of entry/exit strong. hopefully the next leader of the province will really have the political will of developing Nasipit Industrial Estate jameslab8470 February 14th, 2007, 09:52 AM and who would that be? hmmmm.. i heard that Mrs V. Mrs Valentina Plaza will be running for Governor VS former Exec Secretary Edelmiro Amante.... unfortunately, Mrs Valentina Plaza has no good track record in terms of development, this is exemplified by the sluggish economy of her Agusan del Sur province jameslab8470 February 14th, 2007, 10:01 AM yup.. talaga!!! wala talaga developments sa agusan del sur. anyway, let the voters decide sino ang pipiliin nila. sana di sila magsisisi sa pinili nila. hehe.. anyway, is the Almont Hotel renovation already finished? BOB-bXu February 14th, 2007, 10:03 AM hmmm havent been to Almont Hotel na...I think their interior renovations is done on a progressive basis....ongoing pa siguro ang ila renovation. James, is it true daw that Bo's is expanding in Butuan? jameslab8470 February 14th, 2007, 10:11 AM I dont know.. but i've heard that there's one butuanon na nag franchise ug Bo's don't know when and where nya ilalagay. suki ako sa Bo's Asiatown IT Park and Capitol dito sa Cebu. Ahehe.. I hope BO's will also extend their market in Caraga Region... Ok kasi ang business ng mga local coffee shops sa Butuan, right? I haven't been to coffee shops in Butuan, pero basing sa mga number of customers na makikita mo from the outside, ok ang kita... True Brew and La Cafiza, to name a few. hehe BOB-bXu February 14th, 2007, 10:18 AM thats correct, I am a regular customer of either True Brew and Margie's base on my headcount especially late afternoons up to 10 PM, there seems to be a steady flow of coffee drinkers to these shops. there's this new cafe, Moff's Cafe, they used to run a bar along Ochoa Avenue, but now they are into cafe bizniz. But I havent tried their shop yet. Then there's this durable cafe shop ( I say durable because its has stood the competition with True Brew who is just nearby)...Minty Passions Cafe... but I would stick to that espresso paired with the chocolicious lusciously creamy choco monster of Margie's BOB-bXu February 14th, 2007, 10:26 AM James, if ever you have the capital, what sort of business you would go into here in Butuan? (except that Balanghai Airlines na pud ha :)) jameslab8470 February 14th, 2007, 10:31 AM Hmm... lami mag kape uy. hehe... cafe latte pares sa super chocolate sa bo's.. yum! I dunno who will ocupy the building.. there's this under construction too along Langihan Road....dunno who will occupy the building.. then there's one ako na agian sa R. "Or else they will be dealt with the long arms of the law," Sarmiento told local newsmen Wednesday. However, Sarmiento clarified that the agency cannot deal with local candidates and incumbents engaged in early campaigning who may use government resources but have not yet filed their certificates of candidacy. "The Supreme Court has already issued ruling on that, unless candidates filed before Comelec his or her certificate of candidacies, the poll body cannot act on complaints because they are not candidates yet," Sarmiento explained. "In other words, the Comelec will implement the law against candidates who already filed certificates of candidacy," Sarmiento added. The Comelec commissioner, however, failed to explain if there are mechanisms on how to implement the ban on use of government properties or vehicles since there is no Memorandum of Agreement signed between the poll agency and the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC). It is not also explained how the police will implement the election code on the ban of government resources or properties, particularly vehicles engaging in partisan politics. Majority of the incumbent local officials in the Caraga Region, their wives, sons and closest relatives are eyeing public office in the May 14, 2007 local elections. In May 2004 elections, there were many complaints raised on the rampant use of government vehicles and resources by incumbents seeking re-election or their closest of relatives seeking public office. Commissioner Sarmiento, PNP Chief Jose Calderon with regional police officials of the PNP and Comelec held a press conference in Butuan City late Wednesday afternoon. Calderon was the invited guest speaker on the 16th anniversary celebration of the Caraga Police Regional Office. Calderon, for his part, warned policemen in the region not to use government resources nor engage in partisan politics "or else you will be dealt with the law accordingly." Calderon said chiefs of police in different municipal police offices or provincial directors in Caraga Region whose relatives are running for office are advised to be relieved as soon as their relatives file their respective certificates of candidacy before Comelec. "However, police regional directors are exempted," Calderon said but did not explain why. In the May 2004 elections, the Comelec regional office here officially tallied a total of 1,160,893 registered voters in the four provinces and three cities in Caraga Region jameslab8470 February 15th, 2007, 09:26 AM The last time I passed by the area last month, the area is earth filled and starting to be fenced...hopefully after the elections...construction will kick off that big dome project shall be a 12 thousand seat multi purpose coliseum/conventuion/civic center..once built daw, it shall rival the best in the island...I shall cross my fingers to that So gipasugdan na jud diay? I suggested that it should be replaced with a new one to complement the 2nd Magsaysay Bridge. The Boardwalk is becoming a reality along the Agusan River. We broke ground on a waterfront for the construction of Millennium Development Goals theme park in partnership with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and took the first major steps toward transforming these once blighted areas into a place of recreation. My fellow Butuanons, we must also build to be competitive in attracting conventions and other big events into our city. This is vital to Butuan’s long-term development and economic strength. Thus, construction workers will put shovels in the ground at a 6 hectare complex that will house the most exciting, commercial, and sports development complex in Butuan’s history, the Butuan City Coliseum, with a capacity of 12,000 people in any one event. The new South Market will also soon rise for the convenience of our people. We shall also improve the Salvador M. Calo Public Market at the same time see to it that the roads, drainage and toilets are on top condition. Signs of development are everywhere. Our city experienced a strong building year in 2005 for both residential and commercial construction. There was a total P3.9 Million worth of building permits issued in 2005, with a total P378 Million worth of construction. Our people are building more houses, with almost 1,500 new housing permits issued last year. Commercial, industrial and institutional construction has also jumped to 198 from 184 in 2004. Are there parking aides sa butuan? I think wala pa eh.. kung meron man, i dont see them. Grabe talaga ang area dun. Especially during rush hours, one lane nalang ang magagamit mo. I dont like the ropes that the govt placed along AD Curato street. Yung ginawang borders para sa mga private vehicles, jeepneys and tricycles... Nan dun pa rin ba? nakakapangit kasi sa view eh. and nagpapakita lang na wala talaga disiplina ang mga drivers sa Butuan... Welcome and hope to see you more posts from you. boybleauXx February 17th, 2007, 03:55 PM 10,000 and 1 other objects left at Mazaua by 16th century voyages waiting to be dug from Butuan Global The many recorded voyages to Mazaua during the Age of Sail in the Renaissance period--Fernam de Magalhains in 1521, Gines de Mafra in 1543, Garcia Lopez de Escalante in 1544, and various Portuguese incursions there including the almost total annihilation of Mazaua's inhabitants by the Portuguese seaborne power just before the coming of the Spanish colonizer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi--and those almost unrecorded but for generalized references...these surely left material objects that are just waiting to be dug out by archaeologists. The Magellan voyage left a full list of official objects carried by the fleet. The list is conserved in Seville's museum under the general appelation of "Papeles de Molucca." This is published in F.H.H . Guillemard's The Life of Ferdinand Magellan and the First Circumnavigation of the Globe, 1480-1521. Among the items in the list are: 20 quintals of quicksilver 30 quintals of vermilion 100 quintals of alum 30 pieces valuable coloured cloth at 4000 ms. per piece 20 lbs. of saffron 3 pieces "veintenes," silver, red, and yellow 1 piece Valencia stuff 2 pieces of coloured velvets 200 common red caps 200 coloured kerchiefs 1000 maravedis-worth of combs 200 quintals of lump copper 2000 brass bracelets 2000 copper bracelets 10,000 bundles of yellow matamundo 200 small brass basins of two sorts 2 dozen large basins 20,000 small bells of three kinds 400 dozens of German knives of the commonest kind 40 pieces of coloured buckram 50 dozen scissors 900 small looking-glasses, and 100 larger size 100 quintals of lead 500 lbs. of crystals, which are diamonds of all colours There were other objects any or some of which could have been left behind through negligence, among these: 6 wooden quadrants made by Ruy Falero 1 wooden astrolabe made by the said Ruy Falero 1 planisphere 6 metal astrolabes 15 compass needles 15 wooden quadrants, bronze-fitted Gilt compass in a box Leather case for the planisphere 12 hour-glasses 2 compass needles owned by Magellan himself 6 pairs of compasses 4 large boxes for four compasses which Falero had made 16 compass needles and six hour-glasses sent by Bernaldino del Castillo from Cadiz I have not been able to procure a list of what the ships of Gines de Mafra, Garcia de Escalante, etc. may have brought. The search for Mazaua will ultimately hinge on the discovery of some of these objects. It's certain none of these will be found in Limasawa, the isle whose name was invented from out of thin air by Fr. Francisco Combes, S.J., who had not read a single eyewitness account, who had rejected the faithful account of the isle of Mazaua by Antonio de Herrera in favor of the false account by Gian Battista Ramusio who said erroneously that the anchorage of Magellan's fleet in March-April 1521 was in Butuan, which is not an isle. The notion Limasawa is Mazaua is akin to asserting a mathematical axiom that 1 plus 1 equals 3. Or, the other axiom, that Butuan is Mazaua which is like saying 1 plus 1 equals 4. Mazaua was an isle with a great anchorage, Limasawa is an isle that has no anchorage and nothing of 31 or so features of Mazaua including size, shape, latitude, distance from Homonghon, etc. etc. Butuan is not an isle. It may be asked, can the National Historical Institute pass judgment on the historiographical truth of Mazaua as defined by my paper presented before The Society for the History of Discoveries at Washington DC? Can historians without bona fides in the fields of navigation history, geographical history, Magellan historiography, and affiliated fields--who have not written a single valid piece on Mazaua--pass judgment on this issue? Can they who have no standing before the Hakluyt Society, the Society for the History of Discoveries, who are not members of the Discovery Web mailing list, who have not participated in any global fora on navigation history have any justification to even undertake a peer review? The conundrum has passed the historiographical arena. The search for the mystery port has even gone past geography and geomorphology. We ought all now to focus on archaeology. And Butuanons should think of how to raise the money for a comprehensive dig in the equally mysterious isle of Pinamanculan-Bancasi. Gamba BUTUAN CITY (February 16) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) now pushes for the development of consumer welfare desks (CWDs) in every regional line agencies (RLAs) and business establishments to address the speedy resolution of complaints. The creation of CWDs is in response to the government’s mandate to amicably settle issues and complaints at the lower level to avoid delay in solving the problem. It will also help consumers avoid the hassle and burden of having to file complaints or cases in court. Personnel manning CWDs will serve as mediation and arbitration or dispute officers. They will serve as the focal persons where complaints for a particular agency will be lodged so as to avoid confusion and delay in addressing the complaints. CWDs will be authorized to accept complaints from other agencies as well as receive and direct complaints to other agencies. To facilitate the networking of these CWDs, DTI came up with a Complaint Endorsement Slip where complaints should be recorded and then forwarded to concerned agencies. This move is part of the strengthening of the Consumernet, a government initiated organization under the auspices of the Department of Trade and Industry committed to protect consumer’s rights. To prepare CWDs for the job ahead, several activities were lined up for 2007. These activities include Alternative Dispaute Resolution Training, Capability Building Seminar for CWDs, and Capability Enhancement of Resource Speakers Pool. Other activities include Consumernet briefings, search for best consumer welfare desks, consumer welfare month celebration, quarterly price monitoring of all basic commodities including petroleum products, and calibration of gasoline dispensing pumps. Also included in the 2007 calendar of activities is the advocacy or information drive in schools, monthly updates on consumer tips and establishment of office consumer bulletins or cork boards.
