correct me if I am wrong...but I think Gensan has more advantage over that of Zamboanga right now...even if Zambo has the bigger market size..and has attained an earlier level of development..the exponential growth rate of Gensan over the past decade is something to reckoned with...

among the major cities in Mindanao (DVO,ZAM,CGY,BXU,IGN) GES is I think the youngest..

Right! GENSAN became a city in September 5, 1969! meaning 40 years pa lang ang existence ng GENSAN as a city!

Correct me if i'm wrong din... except for TACLOBAN who recently became a HUC.. I think GENSAN is the youngest HUC in the Philippines! Can anyone confirm this? if not the youngest maybe one of the youngest to be safe!!!

Medyo sa first half lang ng 2000's humina ang economy ng GENSAN because of
not so good peace and order situation (BOMBINGS and WAR in MINDANAO)... GENSAN was able to get back on its feet in 2006 and the rest was history... I GUESS!

Good Morning Butuan! Here's some news I've found around the city:

BRAND NEW GREEN MULTI-CABS donated by Congressman Jose Aquino II are parked in front of the Urios Gym, to be given to barangays
Secretary of Defense Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro is currently here in Butuan.
Propsero Pichay is also currently here in Butuan.
Lakas-Kampi-CMD Secretary General Gabriel Claudio is also here in the city.
Gabby Concepcion will be having his concert here in Butuan by next month also featuring Ara Mina and comedian Chokoleit.

I agree with you Bob. But take note, big players/investors are already in Gensan.

At least for how many years of dormancy... the people of GENSAN is now experiencing the re - emerging economy of GENSAN... MABUHAY..

Tacloban is the youngest Fahdingding....converted to HUC by an act of law via a plebiscite...

by the way, there is long existing criterion for citys to comply before they can be converted to HUCs and is already in the law as stipulated in the DILG.....I really cannot understand why there is this trend of some congressmen using legislation just to convert their citys into HUCs (and even if not fullly complying with the criteria) :ohno:

REMEMBER the GARDEN MEMORIAL ESTATE of the URAYA LAND DEV.INC. in Butuan City? Nakalabay mi ani nga area from the Chinese Cemetery last year & saw the developments in progress.

Hopefully, URAYA LAND's 4 hectare Subdivision Project in Butuan will also be realized SOON.

GARDEN MEMORIAL ESTATE
Bancasi,Butuan City

Uraya Land Development, Inc. was established on March 8, 1994, the primary purpose of which is to acquire properties by purchase, lease, donation and to own, use, improve, develop, subdivide, sell, lease, mortgage, exchange, and hold for investment real estate of all kinds.

Established to be the flagship of the URAYA GROUP OF COMPANIES, its main thrust is the development of suburban communities to meet the housing needs of today’s growing population.

It has an authorized capital stock of P50 million and paid-up capital of P50 million. As of the year 2005, its total assets stood at P506 million, while total equity and retained earnings amounted to P113 million.

Its pilot project was undertaken in a 14-hectare subdivision lot in Mankilam, Tagum City. Known as Capitol Homes Subdivision, it has a total of 749 housing units, and was developed for the lower middle-income group of Davao del Norte’s biggest population sector.

Its second project, Elenita Heights Subdivision, is situated in Catalunan Grande, Davao City. It sits on a 50-hectare property with a total of 1,218 housing units and ‘lots only’ for Phase I and 1,014 housing units and ‘lots only’ for Phase II. To date, only a few units remain unsold.

Plans to expand the community within the adjacent areas are also underway. The Company recently launched its third phase, Elenita Heights Garden Villas. This involves the development of an 8.2-hectare property for an additional 310 housing units and ‘lots only’.

At present, Uraya Land is involved in the development of an 80-hectare property in Toril, Davao City. Its first high-end subdivision project, Villa de Mercedes will initially develop 16.6 hectares of the entire property, with 411 lots available for sale. It has been granted its License to Sell on November 16, 2004 and the Company has already sold a total of 271 units as of November 15, 2006.

Just recently, it has been granted its License to Sell for Phase II, which involves 23 hectares of the property, with 328 lots for sale.

Also in the pipeline is a 4-hectare subdivision project in Butuan City, which is being considered for development, as the growth in the Caraga region will entail a bigger demand for housing in the said area. Another project in the making is a high-end memorial park in Butuan City.
The Company has only been in the real estate business for almost twelve years but it has already made its mark in the industry. For four consecutive years, in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006, it has been awarded by the Shoppers’ Choice Awards as the Best Low Cost Housing Developer in Davao City.

It has also been awarded by the Philippine Marketing Excellence Awards as the Best Low Cost Housing Developer in Davao City in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and by the National Product Quality Excellence Awards in 2006 as the Best Low-Cost Housing Provider in Davao City.

In the years to come, Uraya Land will continue to pursue its objective of land and housing development and meet its commitment of providing more homes to more people in Davao City and in some parts in Mindanao.

Math department prepares for COD 'ocular inspection'

The Mathematics Department of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) readies itself for the ‘ocular inspection’ by evaluators of the Center of Development (COD) program of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to be held on August 20, 2009.

complete article : http://normisist.edu.ph/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=163&Itemid=1

NORMISIST is very much qualified as a Center of Development for Mathematics because of its very strong mathematics faculty. 6 are PhD Mathematics degree holders while the rest are MS Mathematics holders except for a few who are still pursuing their masters degrees.

Motorist and travelers are now enjoying the benefits of the 2nd Magsaysay Bridge and Butuan City By-Pass Road in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte. Mr. Renato Bautista, a delivery truck driver, who traverses the project everyday, is very grateful to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for giving this SONA project in their place. He added that there is a very big difference when the bridge and by-pass road was not yet constructed. “During our daily travels, we have to queue at the old Magsaysay bridge in order to get to our destinations” he said. “Now, traveling is fast, easier, convenient and most especially no more traffic because of this project”, he added. According to DPWH CARAGA Regional Director Romeo Momo, the project was constructed to provide a more reliable infrastructure with greater design capacity and safer traffic measures than the existing Old Magsaysay Bridge. The Butuan City Bypass Road has diverted the traffic passing through the core of the city. “The overall infrastructure project enhances the urban transport needs for commerce and industries in the region by sustaining the efficient flow of people, goods and services among the major growth centers in the eastern part of Mindanao”, he said. Director Momo added that the by-pass road with 13.124 kilometers length is the longest in Asia. The state-of-the-art 2nd Magsaysay Bridge is 882 meters long. It is a cable-stayed bridge and second of only two kinds in the Philippines. An 84- meter high tower divides the bridge into two spans – 200 meter at the West (longest in the Philippines) and 160 meters at the East.

Butuan City and its surrounding towns in Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur are now free from floods because of the Lower Agusan Deveopment Project of the Department of Public Works and Highways. Mang Ador (Mr. Dominador Sajulga), resident and tricycle driver, expressed gratitude to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for the project. Now, he said, they can sleep soundly because they don’t worry of floods anymore even during heavy rains and strong typhoons. On top of that, traffic in the area is now smooth and free-flowing because of the completed viaduct and cut-off channel bridge, which makes his livelihood of being a tricycle driver more productive. The project is one of the priority projects of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in CARAGA Region. It is being implemented by the Cotabato-Agusan River Basin Development Project-Project Management Office (CARBDP-PMO) under Project Director Philip F. Meñez. DPWH Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane said that the project is constructed because there was an immediate need to relieve the urban and sub-urban areas of Butuan City from the recurrent flood inundation in the East Bank and West Bank of the Agusan River which is the 3rd largest river in the Philippines. According to Engineer Roger Ang, Project Manager of CARBDP-PMO, three packages of the project are already completed. These are: Package 1 – Agusan River Improvement, Cut-off Channel and Tumampi Vehicular Bridge; Package II – Construction of Magsaysay Viaduct and Cut-Off Channel Bridge; and Package III – Improvement of Banza River and Land Improvement/Construction of Resettlement Area. Engr. Ang added that the project is very important and most beneficial to Butuan City and its people because before, when the viaduct and river dike are not yet constructed, the national highway was submerged up to 3 kilometer from the old Magsaysay Bridge that caused transportation totally paralyzed during heavy rains This happened every 2 – 3 years and recently every year. With the project, the floodwater is now confined, and with the viaduct, no need to stop or divert the flow of vehicular traffic. Engr. Ang also stressed the economic and social impact provided by the project. Business activities and establishments in the area sprawled like mushroom because businessmen are now investing more since they know that Butuan City will experience flooding no more. Agricultural areas are also protected from floods. And people are worry free because they are protected also by the flood control project.

flood free???:?

BUTUAN CITY- The press conference called by sickly Butuan City Mayor Democrito Daiyon Plaza , II yesterday has turned into blaming session among invited government officials and personalities after supreme tribal chieftain Roger Patanao urged Butuan City Water District General Manager Anselmo Sangtian to resign if proven there was no mining activity in Butuan City side of Taguibo Watershed areas.

The recuperating Butuan City Mayor who has just returned from Davao Hospital after being rushed there due to serious kidney ailment called the 10 a.m. press conference held at Mayor’s Conference Room attended by almost all concerned government agencies.

Sangtian stood up and responded to seemingly angry Patanao who challenged him to resign and told the large audience while there is no mining activity in Butuan City side of the watershed there is an illegal road construction being allegedly initiated by Patanao.

Sangtian explained the illegal road rehabilitation as said logging road already existed even before it was declared by then President Ramos as Forest Reserve Watershed Area has no government permit and even if it has government permit under law no one is even allowed to cut trees inside a declared watershed area how much more disturbing the ecosystems by constructing a road.

Sangtian said that illegal mining activities were being done in Barangay San Antonio, RTR town in Agusan del Norte. The road construction in Butuan side will be allegedly used as service road for the mining activities, he said.

Patanao stood up and in raised voice angrily said it is indigenous people’s rights to develop their area to make it productive citing Indigenous People’s Rights Act or IPRA law as the indigenous people in Agusan del Norte have been neglected over the years.

Cooler heads prevailed as the two in near shouting match continued defending themselves as DENR Caraga, EMB, MGB, CENRO and other government officials headed by Regional Executive Director Edilberto Buiser just listened to the heated argument.

The Taguibo watershed is one of the critical watersheds in Caraga that was declared as Forest Reserve by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 1076 issued by then President Fidel V. Ramos on September 4, 1997.

It covers a total area of 4,364 hectares for protection and conservation under the public domain of the City of Butuan and Municipalities of RTR and Cabadbaran in the province of Agusan del Norte .

Earlier, concerned students of Fr. Saturnino Urios University formed Save Taguibo Watershed Network hoping to put an end in the watershed controversy.

Joint government investigation result showed there were massive destruction activities in said watershed areas.

Last June 15, 2009, government composite team composed mostly of national government agencies’ regional offices like the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP), National Economic and Development Authority or NEDA, DENR, MGB, Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), Butuan City Government’s Environment office, CENRO-Butuan, the Catholic-led Caraga Conference for Peace and Development (CCPD) and others penned an initial report claiming there is indeed traces of illegalities done inside Taguibo Watershed areas.

The team vowed to hold post meetings together with their respective regional directors but aleegdly it failed to reconvene again for reasons they themselves only knew.

In the latest composition of composite government team, representatives from NCIP failed to show up or did not send their representative(s).

This morning various reactions from public including reactions from different environmental watch group called for resignations of all government officials who attended the City hall press conference saying they all missed the point claiming that even cutting twigs inside government declared watershed area is declared a crime, illegal.

“They seem don’t know what the watershed law says or they just seem to ignore playing dumb and fools, in other countries like the United States or Europe, they consider their watershed areas as sacred because it is the source of their potable water, anyone who destroy it go to jail if found guilty”, environmentalist groups added.

In Surigao City , they added, no less than Surigao City Mayor Alfonso Casurra personally went to the Surigao City watershed when information reached his office illegal cutting and mining activities has started in the area.

According to multi-agency government reports illegalities have started in the Taguibo watershed area late 2005.

BUTUAN CITY (MindaNews/28 June) – An investigating team led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is worried that the unabated ongoing small-scale mining, logging and road construction activities in the Taguibo watershed forest reserve in Anticala village here would destroy the city’s source of water supply.

In its initial investigation report, the team noted that the ongoing road rehabilitation and widening activities in Taguibo watershed area have no environmental compliance certificate, road right-of-way permit, and free and prior informed consent from the tribal holders of Certificate of Ancestral Domain Claim No.178.

Small-scale manganese mining activities were earlier reported in hinterland areas in the boundaries of Barangay Anticala in Butuan and Barangay San Antonio in the neighboring municipality of Remedios T. Romualdez in Agusan del Norte.

But Mayor Democrito Plaza has denied that any individuals or groups have applied for mining operations in the area.

The investigating team led by Virgilio dela Cruz, DENR’s environment technical regional director, was dispatched to the area on May 26 to dig deeper on the alleged illegal activities such as mining, road construction and cutting of trees within Taguibo Watershed Forest Reserve in Anticala village.

Records at the city’s Community Environment and Natural Resources Office show that a total of 8,879.61 board feet of illegally-cut lumbers suspected coming from the Taguibo watershed area were seized and now under the office’s custody.

Edilberto Buiser, the DENR regional executive director, has organized a multi-sectoral team composed of representatives from the National Commission of Indigenous People, Mines and Geo-sciences Bureau, Environment Management Bureau, National Economic and Development Authority, Community Environment and Natural Resources Office, the city government’s Environment and Natural Resources Office, the city mayor’s office and the Catholic-led Caraga Conference for Peace and Development (CCPD) in response to the complaint of the Butuan City Water District on the alleged illegal activities in the watershed area.

Taguibo watershed is situated within the Sibagat Wawa Forest Reserve covered by Proclamation No. 308 dated September 3, 1954. It is also identified as one of the critical watershed areas in Caraga region.

The area, declared as forest reserve under Presidential ProclamationNo.1076 by former President Fidel V. Ramos on Sept. 4, 1997, is the major source of potable water distributed by the Butuan City Water District and of the irrigation facilities for the city’s farmlands.

Sources added that the highest portion of the watershed forms part of the Mt. Hilong-hilong Range, the region’s highest peak at 2,012 meters above sea level. It said that the range is also one of the key biodiversity areas within the Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor (EMBC).

Data at the DENR regional office shows that the Taguibo watershed covers a total area of 4,364 hectares for protection and conservation under the public domain of Butuan and municipalities of Remedios T. Romualdez and Cabadbaran in Agusan del Norte. It is also within the six ancestral domain claims. (Alden Pantaleon / MindaNews)

di gyud ko ganahan anang mga karatola nga naa'y ingon ana nga "throught the efforts" of blah blah blah. sapoton ko magtan-aw, hehehe.

that's a sad reality in the current leadership setting here in the Philippines...which I must say we are better off here in Butuan..

if you guys happen to pass by in Quezon City...especially in the Kalayaan Ave. ; Kamias St., Timog St.. etc...you will notice tarpaulins of almost every councilor up to the congressmen and the mayor and vice mayor...tarpaulins with greetings from Christmas, Graduation, fiestas, anniversaries,Holy Week and even birthdays of prominent people.. etc etc, with their names more bolder in print plus with faces plastered on the tarps....more so, there are a lot of concrete welcome arches of almost every barangay bearing the names of the city and barangays officialdom....

in Pasig for example...the mayor's initials are immortalized in the steel bases of every lamp posts of a major avenue there...

in Cebu particulrly in Mandaue-Lapu Lapu areas, you can find steel welcome arches near that big bridge with the politicos faces beaming over the highway

even here in CARAGA, there is this place also with a big welcome arch in concrete..and the politicos name written in steel on the welcome arch..

good thing you do NOT have those kind of display in your city of Butuan :)

Engr. Buscano shines in APRC 2009

CAS, NORMISIST - Engr. Sonia Ibarra-Buscano of the Northern Mindanao State Institute of Science and Technology (NORMISIST) presented her scientific paper at the Asian-Pacific Regional Conference on Practical Environmental Technologies (APRC) 2009 held in Hanoi, Vietnam last August 7-8, 2009.

Engr. Buscano, a faculty member under the Chemistry Division of the Department of Natural Sciences of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), proudly represented NORMISIST in the international scene by presenting her paper entitled “Synthesis and Characterization of Chitosan-Montmorillionite Composite Beads for Pb2+ and Cu2+ Adsorption”.

This is the second time that Engr. Buscano represented NORMISIST in the international scene as her first paper entitled “ Comparative Adsorption of Cd2+, Cu2+, Pb2+, Zn2+ and Ni2+ onto Chitosan-Montmorillionite Composite Beads” was accepted for poster presentation during the 2009 Environmental Quality Concern, Control and Conservation (EQC3) Conference held in I-Shou University in Kaouhsiung, Taiwan last May 23, 2009.

According to Engr. Buscano, an offshoot of the aforementioned conference was the possible collaboration of two projects with Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science (CNU) in Taiwan through Dr. Meng-Wei (Peter) Wan. “With endeavors like this, it is indeed a very good venue for NORMISIST to exchange professional and academic experiences, and gain additional research linkages not only locally but internationally as well,” she wrote in her report following the conference.

The APRC was organized since 2003 with delegates coming from the different countries in Asia such as Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The international participation enabled an exchange of professional as well as academic experiences on environmental issues such as water and solid waste, hazardous waste, air pollution and environmental quality of different media, focusing on identifying appropriate technologies to address these concerns.

The APRC deals with current and emerging environmental themes listed below:

Water, wastewater and solid waste treatment processes
Groundwater modeling and remediation
Wastewater reclamation technologies
Hazardous waste management and disposal
Air pollution control
Environmental quality monitoring, assessment and control
Climate change effects on environmental technologies

Engr. Buscano is a returning faculty member of the Institute coming from her 2-year graduate studies in Master of Science in Chemical Engineering (MSCE). She obtained her MSCE degree last May 2009 under the Commission on Higher Education President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Science and Engineering Graduate Scholarship (CHED PGMA-SEGS) grant. She finished her academics at the University of the Philippines Diliman (UP Diliman) and her Master’s thesis/research conducted at Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science (CNU) in Tainan, Taiwan. Her travel to Vietnam was fully supported and funded by the Institute.

Pero mao ni ang scenario, when the CHED Technical Panel Team headed by Dr Reggie Marcelo of Ateneo de Manila did the occular inspection, The President, Vice President and 3 committee chairs were not around to be found. Bagsak na gani sila sa March accreditation, wala pa jud nila suportahi to the max ang COD inspection sa CHED. Basi ingon ani pod nahitabo sa AACCUP visit mao semplang sila. Net find ra ni Mindanao Bee. I don't have the courage to get up there.God knows what's lurking in there. This is a common problem with a pedestrian overpass ( not only in Bxu but also in some other cities) which I think should be given attention by the City kay sayang, nawala ang iyang purpose.Mas maau gyud unta may guards na ilalagay to deter crimes.

By the way, that Rudy Tiu U/C building near Dar subd? You're right, nice atong pedestrian overpass. I can only wish nga dili lang unta ang exterior facade ang mamaintain. Overpasses were constructed to protect the pedestrian and at the same time reduce congestion. How will the people be encouraged to use it if its interior walkways is not even pleasing to the eyes & nose, not to mention pa the danger that awaits you as you cross it. If this is so, I tell you, I can't blame a pedestrian who would rather risk the traffic below. Bitaw oi, ila na unta nang areglahon kay kasayang, imagine, we have 2 ovepasses in Montilla Boulevard, one in Libertad and one sa JCAA (Urios skywalk) dapat mahimuslan gyud ni sa mga tao :bash:

This info I got is from a franchising team. I asked why not open in bxu when they won't have problem with the sales. The manager told me that their company won't venture in bxu/agusan coz it's a company-owned area.

I was able to chat with the store manager of Jollibee Surigao. Friends man mi, hehehe. Tga-Butuan na siya then Sillimanian pa gyud. She said nga since wala gi-approve ang 2nd store sa surigao city kay wala daw mabutangan, their in-charge for new stores approved tandag instead. Under negotiation pa daw ang Jollibee Tandag. It will be a franchise store under Golden Lion Foods. Basin mga next year daw mag-open.

Because students use the most of the overpass for crossing the main and south buildings.. that's why gamay ra ang overpass nga gamiton para sa public.

You are referring to a different school Mayapay pero the school you are referring to is now just a campus of NORMISIST. The NORMISIST-Main in Ampayon was the former NORMINAC(Northern Mindanao National Agricultural College) which was converted to NORMISIST in the 1980's. As far as its conversion into a university, the Congress(lower&Upper houses) has the mandate to do so with the assistance of CHED. It is not CHED who will decide for the conversion of state colleges to state universities. CHED though has the say for private institutions.

NORMISIST simply lacks the level of Accreditation from AACCUP for it to be converted to a university. The school is just 1 level short.

The construction of SJIT Maritime Campus in Cubi-Cubi hasn't started yet but such equipments are in-place to start pounding the soil.

The widening of roads in Libertad-Bancasi-Dumalagan are still on-going. Even the construction of the by-pass highway.

The asphalt overlay is also on-going as of now. Workers started to asphalt a lane starting from Sto. Niño Shrine down to Natasha. Other lanes have already been layered with asphalt. I felt different while riding along JCAA. It's now super smooth.

maybe too...they transferred to BXU precisely because that BXU has a far better living conditions and standards than that of Marawi :)

Nope. They have been in MSU-Marawi for a long time. The Galliguezes are simple people hence living conditions would not matter to them.

Dr Ignacio, the former president of NORMISIST talked to them about giving back a little to Butuan before they retire. One strategy of Dr Ignacio to comply the desired number of PhD's for NORMISIST to become a university is to invite Butuanons to transfer to NORMSIST. He was able to recruit the Galliguezes and started the negotiation for the transfer of another PhD from MSU-IIT and another one from UPLB. These two other PhD's finally transferred to NORMISIST during the first year of Dr Cuenca in NORMSIST. Another PhD from MSU-Marawi just transferred to NORMISIST this year to join his wife who is connected with NORMISIST for quiet sometime already.

Dr Thelma Galliguez has a Full Professor VI rank from MSU-Marawi. The available item for NORMISIST then was Professor III. This is the present rank of Dr Thelma now. I salute them for their humble move. Dr Thelma will retire within 5 years. marami pa siyang magawa for NORMISIST.

The asphalt overlay is also on-going as of now. Workers started to asphalt a lane starting from Sto. Niño Shrine down to Natasha. Other lanes have already been layered with asphalt. I felt different while riding along JCAA. It's now super smooth.

You know what Franz, kahit sa Maynila may mga overpass na hindi naman pinagbawal ang pagbebenta. There was a feature before sa ABS CBN na talagang naglalagay pa sila ng mga mesa to display their items.Yung iba naman, may nka hang pa na mga ukay2 just like at Libertad Overpass now. Well, like you said, mas okay pa siguro nga ingon ana, one way of attacting the pedestrian to use the overpass and a way also na mapanatiling malinis yung area.

I hope na by December, this asphalt overlaying from airport to Libertad mahuman na gyud. Excited ko coz we have balikbayan relatives who'll be coming home for the holidays & I want to show off our wide highways. Two lanes ra man gyud intawn ilang last na remember..weeee...hehehe. This is one surprise that awaits them... Tingnan ko nalang kung hindi man lang nila mapansin kay ako gyud silang :bash:

Good Morning to you hakz.

On the other hand, let me speak about the weather I've noticed for how many days, the weather here in Butuan has been fair, clear and sunny. No rain even a single drop. Diba ate bunns? Don't tell me that you didn't notice the weather. hehehe basin sunny kaayo karon pero within a few weeks or maybe days, aguy. I hope ingon ani japun ang weather with occasional rain throughout.

hehehe.Gara-gara ni si dodong Franz. Na notice baya pud nako oi  I love the sunny weather although sometimes it can get really hot & humid. But still, this is much much better compared to a whole year of mostly rainy days for which Butuan & Surigao is known for. So while we have it now, let's enjoy the sun pero ingat lang sa heat stroke.

The way I understand it is the franchising team don't want competition with the company-owned stores in the Agusan area. BTW, Freemont Foods Corp is a subsidiary of Jollibee Foods Corp. All Vismin company stores are under Freemont.

Jsl, what do you mean company-owned area? you mean, they won't venture here because Jollibee Butuan branches were already owned by Freemont Foods Corporation, the original franchiser of Jollibee Butuan? and Freemont Foods Corp. only has the power to add more branches here in the city?

I understand that Bob, there's no doubt that Robinsons and Camella have already landed in BXU pero my point is "WHEN" they will start the construction, that's what I'm referring to nga dili nato huna-hunaon kaayo coz mo-sprout ra na kalit.

there's a reason for us to be serious about Robinson's; one, the land is already there...bought from a prominent clan in the city and two, the upcoming development was "expected" by the mayor as mentioned in his report in 2008....and third, a soil testing was indeed done ( I wont divulge of my source :) )

there's also a reason to be serious about Camella of Vista Land....as officially reported by NEDA Caraga Regional ofice of their entry into the city....

what's NOT clear yet is that of SM and NCCC and the 3rd Jabee too :)

Hmmm...This is very intriguing. But one thing I'm very sure of, the 3rd Jollibee Branch will be located at our future ROB MALL  Right, jsl? hint naman kahit "nod" lang...hehehe

same thougths here msbunny... im pretty sure 3rd branch of jabee will be at the RobBXU added to that, 2nd branch chowking, 2nd pizza hut, 2nd branch mcdo, 1st branch kfc? hmmm... i-cross tanan fingers... hehehe... starbucks...hehehehe... goldilocks, red ribon, ug uban pa... i would love to see levis, diesel, addidas, nike etc...

Butuan City Mayor Retiring from Politics
August 22, 2009

http://mindanao.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/DSC00207.jpg

Butuan – It was official Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II will not be running in 2010 and bids goodbye to politics.

A swift call to gather Lakas-Kampi-CMD leaders early this week was made in time for Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro and Political Adviser Gabriel Claudio’s visit here in the city.

When Mayor Democrito “Boy Daku” Plaza proclaimed his wife Daisy to be the Lakas-Kampi-CMD Mayoralty candidate for Butuan in May 2010 elections, it didn’t come as a surprise from everyone present in the FSUU gym during the assembly.

For health reasons, Mayor Plaza has to end his political career and pass on the political mandate to Daisy B. Plaza who once served as the Mayor for 1 term in 2004 naming her as the First Woman Mayor of Butuan.

Boy Daku served Butuan from 1992 until 2000 and in 2001 until 2003. He was re-elected in 2007 elections. Had it not been for his failing health, Boy Daku will continue to field his DSC00207candidacy in May 2010.

In his first appearance to public for this year in a scheduled Mayor’s Forum in March after several months of confinement at St. Luke’s Hospital in Manila, Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II announced he may have kidney ailment, aneurism and underwent angioplasty, but he remains strong and capable for running in 2010 elections.

However, several days and months the Mayor continue to battle against his illness and was even confined again for a longer period of time in a hospital in Davao City.

It was only during the Lakas Leaders Assembly on August 19 that an announcement was formally made, of him not running for re-election and endorsed the candidacy of his wife, Ma. Theresa “Daisy” Plaza.

Daisy Plaza who is the current Chairman of the City Tourism Council in a press conference said that the proclamation was not yet official as the Lakas-Kampi-CMD party has yet to convene to approve her candidacy. (photo provided by Franklin Caliguid)

Tourism, transport highway map unveiled in Mindanao exposition
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
August 23, 2009, 4:10pm

Butuan City – A three-dimensional (3-D) map showing the connectivity and accessibility of Mindanao’s tourism destinations was unveiled during the recent opening of the Mindanao Travel and Tour Exposition 2009 (MTTE 2009) at the Davao Convention and Trade Center in Davao City.

The Mindanao Tourism and Transport Highway Map (MTTH), a 3-D landscaped model map of Mindanao, shows key tourism sites and the major highways, seaports and airports connecting various tourism and key destinations.

Some of the areas shown in the MTTH map include Dakak in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte, the Island Garden City of Samal on Samal Island, and the Agusan Marsh in Agusan del Norte.

An inter-agency project of the Department of Tourism (DoT) and the Department of Transportation and Communication (DoTC), the tourism and transport highway map features the multi-modal interconnectivity of the transportation and infrastructure development of Mindanao.

This project stresses the accessibility as well as the connectivity of the key eco-tourism sites of southern Philippines with the end view of encouraging domestic tourism within Mindanao while showcasing the ease and affordability of travel and tours within the island.

Changes and updates may be made even after the launching, as the map is an ongoing project. In the future, results of the project may be made accessible via Internet once the system is set in place.

At the interagency workshop on the MTTH Map held last month in Cagayan de Oro City, Tourism Undersecretary Oscar Palabyab stressed the importance of the map in identifying the gaps in tourism, transportation as well as the needed infrastructure support.

“Our neighbors have the basic infrastructure requirements, that’s why they have more visitors and tourists,” said Palabyab, adding that Mindanao has the best tourism destinations whether in terms of culture, adventure or nature.

He also said that the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines–East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) is one important strategy for tourism marketing of Mindanao.

its really unfortunate to see some of our very important relics and archaeological finds stored in now dilapidated structures....it seems that this national government whose responsibility is the preservation of our historic pride as Filipinos do not seem that mindful if ever these relics are lost..

Filipinos now are lost where will they are heading...precisely because they do not give importance WHO and WHAT they are once and WHERE they come from... ~ questions that only history can provide..

I am sorry to say...the Amantes...all combined....has a poor development track record... it is quite absurd really somebody coming from a low income class province of AgNor and with a high poverty rate at that...would set sights on Butuan....a first class and highly urbanized city at that....

think of it....its just like allowing a third world leader...manage the affairs of a first world country...how messy that woud be....if I may put it in analogy

Dakung tinuod gyud :okay: Halos mag bungol nami sa akong mother because of this. In our family, I was the only one who stood my ground. And that is NO! (maski obvious, I will not mention nalang NO to whom? kay lisud na :bash:)

It's also windy and that's what I like... sunny weather with wind, but there are times that the sky would darken as if rain is going to fall but nothing happened..no single drop of rain would fall from the sky. it just passes by and then here come's shine again.

You can feel the cool breeze in the morning which makes me fall asleep again and then delaying my time for a few minutes instead of waking up and preparing for school earlier.

did PAL removed their services the early morning flights? from Manila to Butuan and return?

yup...PAL has only one daily flight from MNL-BXU and v.v and their equipment varies, meaning, it's either an Airbus A320 or Airbus A319 that they will use for MNL-BXU and v.v route. Morning flights are for passenger seasons only, alfechekarl. Like for example, Christmas Season. A morning flight or morning flights may be added by December since many passengers will be coming home to celebrate Christmas with their families. Another example is Holy Week. It's a long week of vacation so PAL can mount a morning flight or morning flights so that the passengers can catch up a week-long vacation in their own hometown.

But if you want more flights, especially early in the morning, additional flights may only be added once there is a market demand. If there was only a consistent heavy downpour of passengers that booked in PAL, then PAL would have 2 or more flights a day.

...there is NO early morning flights now cos when i visited their website i cannot find the 530 am flight going to butuan?

yup...PAL has only one daily flight from MNL-BXU and v.v and their equipment varies, meaning, it's either an Airbus A320 or Airbus A319 that they will use for MNL-BXU and v.v route.

If there was only a consistent heavy downpour of passengers that booked in PAL, then PAL would have 2 or more flights a day.

hahaha pede baya atong airport matugpahan og dagkung planes Franz... Bancasi airport can cater those big airbus like A320-A340.

Maybe, it's because the runway was widened and extended but I cannot guarantee or assure you that a long range and wide-bodied commercial passenger airliner like the A330-A340 can land in our own airport. But, Butuan is at the northern part of Mindanao so why use the A330-A340? Bear in mind that the A330 and A340 is only used for long-haul and short-medium haul routes. Next is, why use an A330/A340 and the passengers doesn't even reach the seating capacity of the aircraft. The A330 and A340 can hold up to 295-335 passengers but there are only 124-180 passengers? So, other seats of the aircraft can be considered useless unlike an A320 or A319 where the passengers can really fill up the seats. Another thing is the fuel consumption, the A340 is a four-engined aircraft so why waste fuel on a near route which can be traveled even easier and faster by just using A320 or A319.

Hala, oh my, we have an airport thread nga wala na kaayo'y post unya dire na hinoon ta nag post-post:bash:. Alfechekarl, we have an Airport thread located inside the Transport and Infrastructure forum. Didto ra ta mag-discuss regarding Butuan aviation. :)

its really unfortunate to see some of our very important relics and archaeological finds stored in now dilapidated structures....it seems that this national government whose responsibility is the preservation of our historic pride as Filipinos do not seem that mindful if ever these relics are lost..

Filipinos now are lost where will they are heading...precisely because they do not give importance WHO and WHAT they are once and WHERE they come from... ~ questions that only history can provide..

After my brother visited the Balanghai Shrine museum last June and saw first hand the neglected sight that it is now, he was sooo disappointed he decided that next time he comes home with his girlfriend, unya mao kuno gihapon nga way "Arig" ang lugar, DILI nalang daw niya dad-on didto iyang gf ( who's not taga Bxu) kay MAULAW siya. Mao ra ba gyud unta ang iyang gusto ipang hambug. It's bad enough the kind of impression we are giving our visitors, how much more pa to a Butuanon who should take pride of our history, yet, felt shame instead? :ohno:

Good Morning Butuan!

I don't know, let's wait for TV Patrol Caraga. Traffic jud ang Montilla Boulevard and JCAA. Naa man pud mga traffic and police officers so handled na ang situation.

Delikado jud kung naa ka sa kilid sa usa ka truck nga naay mga dala nga lumber nga wala'y tarung nga LASHING.

Ahh.. the accident happened early in the morning mga around 4-5 AM gikan diay ug Iligan ang kadtong truck nga naay gidala nga lumber. Gikan sila sa JCAA then right turn sila padulong San Vicente via South Montilla Boulevard.. then the turn was so sharp nga nabundol ang truck sa island pagkahuman nangahagbung ang mga lumber. Ang nadat-ugan daw was a Metro Aide.

The Rotary Marker was cut-off because of the accident. The company or the one who's behind this must be penalized for damaging city property.

Also, the traffic lights malfunctioned...so traffic was handled manually by the traffic enforcers.

Because of this accident, akong nakat-unan is magpakilid nalang ko oi kundi modagan whenever I see these trucks loaded with lumber kay kung mag-commute ko ug tricycle sa buntag, naa'y manglabay nga mga truck nga naay karga nga lumber gikan sa San Vicente or sa Macapagal Bridge...

LWUA to plant 30 M trees in 3 yrs.
MIKE U. CRISMUNDO

BUTUAN CITY - The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), along with its hundreds of local water districts throughout the country will lead other agencies to plant 30 million trees in three years, this was learned yesterday.
The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), along with its hundreds of local water districts throughout the country will lead other agencies to plant 30 million trees in three years, this was learned yesterday.
To help preserve hundreds of vital watershed areas and assure continuous sources and supply of fresh water across the Philippine Archipelago, the LWUA higher office directed all local water districts to lead their clients/costumers in the massive tree planting activities especially in their respective watershed areas, it was also learned.
The agency's plan to lead in the massive tree planting activities in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and local water districts in the country will start next month.
"Our main concern here is to preserve our watershed areas and assure continuous sources of fresh and clean water," said LWUA Board Chairman Prospero A. Pichay, Jr. The former Surigao del Sur solon also advocated planting bamboo in many areas which according to him, "retrieves greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide more efficiently than ordinary trees".
Pichay added that the 30 million trees in three years project is also in full support of President Arroyo's "tree for life" program.
He appealed to the governors, mayors and barangay leaders to also lead their respective constituents in supporting the program.

CSC urges agencies, LGUs to submit anti-red tape programs

By Rebecca Grace S. David (piaro3_sfp@yahoo.com)
San Fernando City, Pampanga (25 August) -- The Civil Service Commission directed all government agencies and local government units to submit their proposed anti-red tape programs to the Anti-Red Tape Task Force before June 16.
The Commission released the names of some 250 agencies nationwide that have completed their Citizens Charters, installed public help desks and began to crack down on fixers.
The Citizens Charter identifies the frontline services offered, the step-by-step procedures, the employee responsible for each procedure, the amount of fees, the documents to be presented by the client and the procedure of filing complaints in relation to the requests or applications. This Charter must be posted at the main entrance of the office.
Provinces cited as exemplars in frontline service delivery include La Union, Cavite, Camarines Sur, Bohol, Bukidnon, Northern Samar, Cotabato, Agusan Del Sur and Maguindanao.
The model cities are the City Of San Fernando in Pampanga, Tanauan in Batangas, Candon in Ilocos Sur, Santiago City in Isabela, Legaspi and Tabaco cities in Albay, Toledo in Cebu, Baybay in Leyte, Zamboanga, Iligan, Tacurong and Butuan cities.
The Office of the President issued Adminisitrative Order 241, which identified the priority government agencies in the implementation of the ARTA. These agencies that have complied include the Bureau of Customs, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Bureau of Food and Drugs, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Internal Revenue, PHILHealth, Laguna Lake Development Authority and the city government of Manila. (PIA).

My Grandfather was a member of the Knights of Columbus - Butuan Chapter. He proposed a project in the early '90s nga magbutang ang Knights of Columbus ug statue of the sacred heart of jesus sa Mt. Mayapay in cooperation with Cong. Leovigildo Banaag. Namatay na akong lolo 8 years ago. Wala madayon ang project.

i remember the good old days (70's) nga mag labay labay sa among balay( our house just beside the main bonbon road leading to mt. mayapay) ang mga logging truck nga tag isa hangtud duha ka troso ang karga guikan sa bukid..ang isa ka troso dili magakos ang diametro sa duha lang ka tawo.grabe ang pagpahimulos sa mga kahoy sa mayapay aning mga politiko sa butuan!!! karon ang resulta, OPAW na ang bukid ug dugangan pa nga naay mag-kaingin:bash::bash::bash:

Opaw na gyud ang Mt. Mayapay. All I see is grass nalang. Gamay nalang ang trees.
