Nice! This is what BCD needs, more low rise buildings. Wonder how long this project needs.

Does anybody know what they did with the archaeological finds?

^^ they're going to cover them up and rebury them by order of Solidere. A building is to be constructed in their place. Way to go around destroying culture and history.

Its like from around 1900.. Not exactly some big ancient discovery... lol..

Although, it should've been revived IMO.. Rebuilt as the watcha-ma-call-it.. Hippodrome de Beyrouth or whatever.. :)

Why do Lebanese hate history so much........................................................................

Even in Lebanon, no one cares. Only the expats give a crap..

Does anybody know what they did with the archaeological finds?

They found a Hippodrome dating back to the Romans (not 1900's !!), along with all the structures that surround it, which makes it unique. The department of antiquities (under the ministry of culture) ordered that the site be preserved and that the land be bought by the state. Solidere has not commented on this ever since the decision was taken.

^^

The Beirut Hippodrome, officially called Hippodrome Du Parc De Beyrouth, is a horse-racing facility in Beirut, Lebanon. It was built in 1885 in Bir Hassan, a suburb of Beirut. It was moved in 1918 to a location on Abdallah Al Yafi Avenue adjacent to Horsh Beirut.

In addition to national and international horse races, the Hippodrome also hosts The Garden Show every spring that welcomes more than 160 exhibitors and over 24,000 visitors from Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Cyprus and other European countries.

Yes, this is a different one. The Official Hippodrome de Beyrouth is located in Mathaf Area, near The Pine Park, and the French ambassador's house. It is built, and in use. The one found in Wadi Abu Jamil (Down town) dates from the roman era, just like the ones in Sour, South Lebanon.

^^ Did he say why the decision was taken? Was anything extracted from the site to be relocated?
