Agreed that finally staiums are close to being ready and as usual I kept believing that we can do it.. But for the first time I felt that the project management was really bad and something that has to belooked into. Govt seriously needs to look at all of these mega projects with the option of PPP and try to get the results that they saw in T3 construction

whats wrong with reporting the facts? the public and commonwealth countries deserve to know if stadia for the games are safe. and so far we have seen images of tiles falling from swimming complex, and coming undone. its got nothing to do with moans and complaints. I do want India to have a great games. and hope they can rectify these issues.

We ourselves don't deny the facts but the Indian media over-exaggerates the news for TRP:bash:

It's good to see people liking the stadiums. I also remember people moaning about it being not finished and a lot of heated arguments over this.

Well, whether you liek it or not, That is the stark reality of the times we live in.
Take for the instance the MLS All Star game, the security was realy high.
You won't be surprised with London Olympic Stadium having flouroscent green stripes at the first row during the 100 mtr final or cordoning of the entire arena.

I actually read somewhere that due to renovations, the final capacity would be reduced to around 60,000.
Its great to see everything should be ready and fine, despite all the naysaying by western media (and to a certain extent Indian media also).People seem to forget that, unlike in china, India is a democracy so can't just tear peoples' houses down and use forced labour :P.

If i were you i would keep my head down until the games are over, instead of comparing India with China, which has hosted the Beijing olympics very successfully. As for your bombastic democracy claim, well that is just bogus, India's so called democracy is a rubbish one, and is a insult to all decent democracy's. all the nay sayings have been justified, they came true, unlike China and South Afraica, India failed miserably to shut the nay sayers. Also people's slums were torn down, and child labour was rampant. what kind of a democracy is this when children are used in labour and adult labours earn less than 1$ a day. no need to be so self congratulatory as the games still got a way to go.

Some of these comments are so retarded - We have poor in India so does that mean we should not celebrate and be happy .

Whats the point of showing slum dewellers. Can a nation not have aspirations asn dreams while they grow.

Have all the a holes in the imperialist europe stopped celebrating becasue their nations were built on the money of the people they ruled like barbariens.

Grow-up and show some sense.

Where? in the opening ceremony? or you mean in general. If you mean in general then the numbers are going up. Venues today are considerbly fuller than they were a day before. I was watching wrestling, swimming, boxing and shooting.

90% plus attendance is a very different story to a scattering of people or 5,000 in a 60,000 seat venue.

You're going to fail using the WC as an example. Try another one.

Times of India

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/news/2010-FIFA-World-Cup-attendance-third-highest-in-history/articleshow/6159885.cms

The overall attendance at the 2010 FIFA World Cup (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/search?q=2010%20FIFA%20World%20Cup) in South Africa (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/search?q=South%20Africa) was the third highest in history, behind the 1994 tournament in the US and the one in 2006 in Germany (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/search?q=Germany), FIFA said on Monday.

A total of 3.18 million fans attended the 64 matches in South Africa, while the average attendance was 49,670, Xinhua reported citing a FIFA statement.

The 1994 World Cup in the US, where 3.59 million people watched the matches, still holds the record. In Germany, 3.36 million supporters attended the tournament four years ago.

You asked where were the spectators. Having been at 10 WC matches, I can assure you, 3,18 million in a long-haul country outside of Europe is quite something. Every match in Cape Town basically sold out.

They could put a 20 lane track in there if they wanted. Seems like lowering the surface a couple meters wouldn't be a bad Idea at some point, unless they plan on turning it into a Cricket ground

From the shape of it, it certainly looks like it will eventually be made into a cricket ground.

Walbanger
September 5th, 2011, 07:03 AM
It looks as if it's 200m long by 140m wide. Cricket only has to be 140m/130m. No Cricket grounds in the world are that long.

Benn
September 5th, 2011, 06:18 PM
But some are more like 170m or 180m right? I mean there is certainly a range. Kind of crazy to think they could extend the lower tier and still have plenty of space for Cricket, though the width probably couldn't be reduced too much
