My friend, who lives in kamloops, got a new cell the other day and they gave her a 1-778 area code... for kamloops. I asked her why they did that and they said that they've run out of 250 area codes. Is this true? And is it for all of BC or just the interior...

And I already know that Vancouver is using the same 778, I just thought it was wierd that they would give the rest of BC that area code to share as well...

It's called an overlay code. You can now have multiple area codes in the same geographic area.

does that mean from my 604 or 778 cell in vancouver i could call someone's cell in the interior with a 778 number and it would count as local? or would it know that it was still long distance?

I have a **** **** phone number here in Aussie. With a two digit state code in front. Still only ten digits in total.

Ive been told by my sister that she bought a new phone and was told she had to wait a week to get issues a phone number here in Kamloops . this was in December . I cant see how we need a new are code in Kamloops , or in the rest of B.C. .
What should be done is that ALL cell phones get put on an 778 area code , where ever you are through out B.C. that would free up a lot of numbers in the lower main land and TROBC .

at the very latest 10 years ago, maybe 11.
i think everywhere in bc was 1-604 at that point.
i know the interior and as far north as prince george had the 604.
