Shiodome Block B is an irregular shaped site, facing on the north side in a network of streets and elevated roadways, on the east and south sides as yet unfinalized large high-rise projects, and on the west side as undistinguished low-rise development. The project is complicated by the central location of the old Shimbashi Station. Many scale models were studied of the proposed AM Office Tower and the Matsushita Headquarters, which will occupy the most prominent position of the site because of its smaller size.
In order to take advantage of the views to the southeast of the Hamarikyu Gardens and harbor, and to the northwest of the CBD and the Palace Gardens, the building was rotated on the site. This rotation also allows for the best exposure from Express Highway No.1, but the rotated rectangular buildings did not relate satisfactorily either to the Shimbashi Station or to the adjacent developments. A number of different plan configurations were explored and finally a curved plan form was selected as the one that gave the best overall visual results and the ideal urban design solution.

I like the wavy glass pattern and the reflective glass cladding - intresting building. :)

8.5/10 - One of the nicer buildings I've seen in this section, I believe...

A nice, shiny facade that really dances with the light, and the curves and indentations give it variey without chaos. The sections seem to flow together well, giving it unity without monotony.

BUT - it is a bit chunky, and the roofline isn't as well and harmoniously put together as the rest of the tower.

great tower, its also very well lit up at night.

i saw it the other week when i was in tokyo. it has an inverted pyramid at the top which is lit up in white....it looks quite dramatic from the ginza and the imperial plaza. i like it but i think that the NTV HQ by Richard Rogers and the Dentsu buildings; both also in Shiodome are absolutely top notch. They are both roughly 700 feet too.

The views from the top of this tower of ginza are very impressive and it has some great restaurants which are suprisingly affordable!

Beautiful, love it. The best Shiodome building. I wish that was my home, or my next Playguy mansion. I drewl when I look at this building, it's sexy, pretty, nice, my next girlfriend. What I like mostly is the window layouts, veyr well touched in style class. The shape of the building is also unique. This building needs no introduction, I can't give it an average, or a lower score than excellent. 10/10. My best offer. But since I can't give this building a 10, because there are some issues with too many windows dilemma. 9/10

Certainly one of my favorite buildings in Tokyo. I've liked the flowing shapes of the broad side since the first time I've seen it and the reflectiveness of both the glass and metal is top-notch and gives the light plenty of opportunity to play, whether by day or by night.
It deserves to be taller!
