i think he is one of the best secretary of tourism the country has ever had. although he comes from an island with the tourism advantage but he is more inclusive in promoting the best tourist destination in the 12 regions of the country to the world. as opposed to the previous dot sec where the ncr and their region is promoted first and a few already known tourist spots in the country. in his case, he is promoting newly developed resorts that we dont know even exists.

While it is very likely that Mars was a water planet before, we were talking about the present. Hehe.

OT:

Read your post just now.

Myths have a way of recording the past in a language that the ancient can understand. Even though one need not be naive, it's prudent to keep an open but inquisitive mind. I believe it was a Bagobo myth I once read in a book. To paraphrase, the god of this planet was sad because he was alone with no creatures in his "kingdom," until he discovered another kingdom of another 'god' (ancients tend to call other planets as 'gods' and modern civilization even named them under 'gods') teeming with life (which intrigued me, if upon following the essence of the myth there was yet no life in this planet, how come creatures existed in another kingdom, then I surmised it could be from another planet). The god decided to 'steal' knowledge about creation from that kingdom (water being a harbinger of life, may have the 'knowledge" instrumental in nurturing life as science considered the primordial waters as the origin of life). This angered the other god such that he decided to confound his rival with creatures to mess up with his kingdom, and this partly explained why nasty mosquitos keep bugging you, hehe rin.

Para hindi OT: may mga lamok ba sa beaches? :D

And on the older-than-Sumerian creation myth told by an indigenous tribe in Davao, what is your basis for claiming this? And especially for dating it older than the Sumerian myths. I am honestly skeptical about it but I am also very interested since that would put us on the map. But I have a feeling it might be another hoax the likes of the Tasaday tribe.

As you may notice, unlike in more civilized and stronger countries where they nurture the originality of their culture, the educational system in this country failed to instill upon its students a much more rooted appreciation of our cultural legacies especially those pertaining beyond the colonial invaders' era. I will understand your skepticism as this country's educational system (it was my from personal research rather than rely solely on mediocre lessons in school) didn't even teach us these wealth of epics from our indigenous brethren whose ancient legacies survived and remained unconquered even in the present era, hence the skepticism. You'd be surprised still, the creation mythology of the Samal tribe had similarity with that of ancient Sumerians.

The theory about Mars' water relative to Earth was opened by Velikovsky, although personally I did not agree with everything he said. He was Jewish and he tended to date his theories via biblical timespan, making it too short and grossly inaccurate (I believe the biblical narration of creation started after the Sumerian version of creation, making it not the oldest, but merely the most recent). Velikovsky however admitted that he sourced his information from the epic tales of indigenous peoples, except he politicized it for his belief system's propaganda. So the original came not from Velikovsky (although he is given due credit for researching it) but from indigenous peoples themselves and their very ancient cultural legacies.

But I hope the indigenous peoples themselves will confirm these, other than the book I had read. Unfortunately the libraries of this country are so patheticaly lacking in such materials.

para hindi OT:

kaya naman pala more cultured tourists tend to snub this country despite these undeniably beautiful beaches, partly because of lack of infrastructures and coordination (agrees with absinthe, the present tourism secretary may have done well in promoting the country but didn't address the infrastructures especially in other places other than his origin) and partly because people here don't nurture the country's own unique cultural legacies, which a large sector of quality, cultured tourists may find contemptuous rather than worth appreciating.

Para hindi OT: Oo may lamok din sa beaches. hehe.

Don't get me wrong, even if there are a lot about our country's past and legacies that I am not aware of, partly because of our very poor educational system when it comes to teaching history (which I prefer to be grassroots), partly because of my different line of interest, or partly because I am not as smart as you are, my skepticism does not stem from my lack of appreciation about our culture. In fact, I am a damn proud Filipino even if I am fully aware of our imperfections. My skepticism is the same as that I use in science, because unlike the Sumerian myths which had tablets and other factual proofs (many original and distinct sources exist over a 2000-year period), the Bagobo myth is, from what you're saying, sourced from an oral tradition. And there's the rub. I was asking you to reveal the basis of your assertion that it may be older than the Sumerian creation myths and yet you have not provided me one (and as I have said I am thrilled to be won over, over my skepticism, that is). As an oral tradition, it becomes too murky to find proof to even start saying it may be older than the Sumerian myths and one of the oldest creation myths. Just because it is a myth told by a tribe doesn't most likely mean that it is really ancient. We still create myths even if we are in a relatively modern world and they may not necessarily be ancient.

Of course, we don't even really need to claim to be the oldest or the most ancient in something to start appreciating what we have. Nonetheless, a good myth is still a good myth and that one is not too bad at all. These tribes have interesting island-cultures themselves. Though not entirely secluded, they are relatively isolated so that they have a cultural version of endemism. In the evo-bio sense, it is the same reason why lakes are such interesting places for biologists. I remember reading something about a journalist/history buff? who stayed in an island in Tawi-Tawi I think and then documented some aspects of their culture. One thing that I was interested in was their own version of the constellations (Orion was a trap or something and I forgot the vernacular for it). The names they gave these star formations were very closely weaved into their day to day life.

At para hindi OT: Ang ganda nga pala ng beaches ng Sulu at Tawi-Tawi:lol:

I think this is getting to be OT, maybe you might like create a separate thread instead that would discuss topics about the country's cultural myths and legends and we could continue there.

Pero hirit lang na sagot, then sana back to beaches topic na sa thread.

The oral tradition were used by ancient peoples in case theirs had not developed writing techniques, nevertheless their tradition ensure that special members of the tribe were tasked to memorize the verses accurately to be handed down from generation to generation. One way to base the accuracy of it is when the advancement of science would somehow partly explain the ancient knowledge. As far as Sumerian (& Samal) creation myths were concerned, it partly explained why the asteroid belt came into being in which the other 'chunk' was thrown into its present orbit and became Earth, but not sure whether in the process Earth took some martian waters when it passed by its orbit or otherwise, if it's the former then the sumerian may be older than the bagobo myth. Anyway, this is supposed to be the responsibilities of anthropoligists and/or historians in the country, it's just frustrating that those tasked should have done wider research about this, but partly due to the reason is because academic and/or govt insitutions don't seem to sponsor enough for such kind of research.

Wala po, mga adik lang po kami ni artvision.:bash:

@artvision, now you are claiming that a myth's age and verity is dependent on whether it is corroborated by a later scientific explanation? That is hard to swallow. Secondly, the theory of extraterrestrial origin of our planet's water most likely suggests water came from passing comets which is truthfully high in ice water content. Thirdly, that is precisely my problem with your assertion that it is older or comparably as old as the Sumerian myths because it is oral and when it is just oral, tell me how likely is it that upon transmission, stories also change and evolve, that some are taken out and some are added? And even to start with, how can you date back this myth with great confidence or acceptable level of certainty? Do you want me to believe right away that this myth was very faithfully and accurately handed down orally from generation to generation spanning longer than the more than 5,000-year-old span of the Sumerian myths? (Of course, I am still open to the idea, and I believe it is very likely, that there are other myths that antedate those of Sumeria, but they have to carry the burden of proof. The old Chinese guy had it there when he said that a short pen is better than a long memory).

Although I am sure your intentions were very noble in your posting these remarks, and I am sure you are an example of a Filipino that we need more of these days more than ever (now that one is a really sincere note, even if it follows the kiss-kick-kiss pattern:)), I only hope you are also careful in making such grand assertions. At least substantiate them with good, weighty proof. Because, as I have said, I am always glad to believe these kind of stories about our people, WHEN, and IF, I can.

So there, bai Art please forgive me for being such a stickler about this, and for being such an ass.

Let's go back to the beach!
I highly recommend to everyone to try the beaches of Surigao, even Surigao del Sur in Cagwait down to Hinatuan. And why don't you just go all the way to Davao, especially Samal.

speaking of primordial waters, why not.

Actually ang theory sa Palawan originaly galing daw yan sa mainland Asia, specifically along the areas in Vietnam (hence the similarity in geographical characteristics) many many years ago, that was separated due to tectonic movement.

I daresay almost all biologists believe in evolution and regard Darwin as a respectable person. Heck, even if he did not propose the evolutionary theory, you'd know that he was a decent person. You are so quick to call him nuts. Please read up! You would find out that evolution is demonstrable and it is a fact, and an amazing one at that.

While I do not fully embrace the extraterrestrial origin of water , it is not far from possible. (Again I advise you to research about it a little bit for the merits of the theory before you call it even more 'rubbish' or 'rubbisher' than the theory of evolution).

Now here's something very related to the topic about beach destinations.:)

I find rocky and coralline shores more interesting than the sandy beaches.

And here's both a source of pride and shame.

Hundreds of studies show that the center of marine biodiversity in the world is the Philippine-Malaysia-Indonesia triangle. Upon biogeographical and oceanographical mapping, the scientists (now this is not just a group of hallucinating Filipino scientists who have an agenda-bias) were able to pinpoint the Central seas of the Philippines as the 'center of the center of marine biodiversity in the world.

The most likely explanation is that the periodic rise and fall in sea level created an alternating sea and lake pattern of our inner seas. When sea level was low, these inner seas became isolated lakes and when sea level rose, they became connected to the seas again. Geologic data of our islands confirmed this. These events made our inner seas some kind of laboratory for producing a great diversity of marine forms by repeated cycles of isolation. But this of course, is the 'crazy' explanation by the crazy scientists who believe in evolution.

Simply put, per unit area, one can find more variety of marine life here in the Philippines than anywhere else in the planet! (This may sound like a grand claim and I have advised artvision about making such claims but in this case, my claim is based on numerous independent researches by international scientists. This one is the most comprehensive so if anyone is interested.
http://sci.odu.edu/biology/directory/carpenter_files/CarpenterSpringerEFB2005CenterofCenter.pdf)

Now as to the source of shame, I just find it sad that we don't treasure what our seas hold the way that we should, and show our seas the care that they deserve. But at least now that we know, maybe we would be more mindful. I hope our awareness would give us more push to save our seas.

On another note, I think that many tourists also come not only for the white sand beaches but also for the wealth that is hidden in our seas, which is our rich marine life. Now I find the adjective rich an understatement.

Which is why, in my opinion, Tubattaha Reef should be our pick in the new 7 wonders of nature. It could have made more impact among international reviewers if these nominations were judged according to their significance in nature and biodiversity. Unlike the much publicized and promoted Underground river, Tubattaha reef has this "pinaka" and awe factor that can stand out among other nominees.

Though, Im happy the Underground River has qualified to the second round... Im just thinking that if it is compared to other nominees in its category, it is lesser in influence and scope. Im thinking... if it win in the search for new 7 wonders of nature... will I be that proud? Will it really make a mark as a 7 wonder of nature?.. Just my thought.

You are so quick to call him nuts. Please read up! You would find out that evolution is demonstrable and it is a fact, and an amazing one at that.

You know I am a believer of evolution too. But more on social evolution (H.Spencer et al). not this biological evolution from the evolution theory of darwin.

Of course I will not call it a rubbish if i did not read at least his (Darwin's) assertions.
And actually I have already read books that debunk darwin's argument. Even erasmus darwin's acquired characteristics of animals can be inherited theory (his favorite example, the long neck of giraffe)is debatable.

Now, All biologists believe in evolution?

Are you sure?

Any concrete proof?

ok prove to me that an austrapithecus or ramapithecus (pithecus-ape, a primate) speak African or English or Spanish or latin.

Or humans have a monkey or orangutan descendant.

or put an amoeba in an aquarium and let it evolve into a fish.

What is that spontaneous creation mentioned by evolutionist?

Do you think every thing came about without a purpose?

Even that big bang theory which i think is nothing more but a big bang from scientists who keep on telling the whole world that science is base on empirical evidence and not on pure speculation. and yet putting creation on October 6, 6 billion years ago (or 3 or 4 or 1 billion (Sagan et al. Im confused )

While I do not fully embrace the extraterrestrial origin of water , it is not far from possible. (Again I advise you to research about it a little bit for the merits of the theory before you call it even more 'rubbish' or 'rubbisher' than the theory of evolution).

Ah yes, finally.

Agree .(the NGO Haribon said that)

The most likely explanation is that the periodic rise and fall in sea level created an alternating sea and lake pattern of our inner seas. When sea level was low, these inner seas became isolated lakes and when sea level rose, they became connected to the seas again. Geologic data of our islands confirmed this. These events made our inner seas some kind of laboratory for producing a great diversity of marine forms by repeated cycles of isolation. But this of course, is the 'crazy' explanation by the crazy scientists who believe in evolution.

Of course, its more believable because there is empirical evidence (observable). Its not a crazy theory.

The Fritjof Voss theory about the origin of the Philippines is also believable and similar to what you mentioned. I have a little bit understanding of the movements of tectonic plates.

No contention there are alot of solid evidence about the richness of philippine biodiversity. (My kuya is a certified ecologist from Conservation International (and formerly with Haribon)

Now as to the source of shame, I just find it sad that we don't treasure what our seas hold the way that we should, and show our seas the care that they deserve. But at least now that we know, maybe we would be more mindful. I hope our awareness would give us more push to save our seas.

Agree. Imagine if we can clean up our seas and the Pasig River, Manila Bay and Laguna de bay.

Now did you really, really read Darwin and his publications? With the questions you're throwing at me, it seems that you really did not. Because if you did, you would be able to answer those questions soundly yourself. And just to cite an instance, Darwin never went for the inheritance of acquired characteristics as explained by the giraffe's neck. He was the one who debunked such explanation. That is Lamarckian Theory!

Now, which books did you read that debunked or tried to debunk Darwin's Theory? No doubt those espousing a creationist or the so-called intelligent design agenda? I also said ALMOST all scientists, not all. I know there are scientists who find it hard to believe in the evolutionary theory because they are scared of its implications and the vacuum it would create in their lives. Because for them, believing in evolution means agreeing that life has no purpose but this is not necessarily so for some people. Evolution might explain how the diversity of life forms came to be by a mechanism (natural selection), but does not tell us about the energy that pushes every electron to continue spinning around the nucleus of an atom, nor does it explain why matter has certain tendencies, like positive and negative charge and so on. Believing in evolution is not tantamount to becoming a godless fool.

Anyway, my advice is the same. Read up. It might make me sound arrogant and smarter-than-thou but I truly think you need to read more about the subject before you make such hasty judgments. I am writing these in the wrong thread so this will be the last OT reply. hehe.

And just to cite an instance, Darwin never went for the inheritance of acquired characteristics as explained by the giraffe's neck. He was the one who debunked such explanation. That is Lamarckian Theory!

i said Erasmus darwin.

charles is different from Erasmus right?

Jean Baptiste Lamarck also made the assertion. Erasmus Darwin anticipated Lamarckism.

His works foreshadowed the modern day theory of evolution and natural selection.

A grandfather of Charles.

anyway, the giraffe thing is from lamarck and the acquired characteristic is lamarckism. Thanks for the correction.

Now, which books did you read that debunked or tried to debunk Darwin's Theory? No doubt those espousing a creationist or the so-called intelligent design agenda?

Yes. Creationist. Its more believable.Including St Tomas arguments on the existence of God.Which is more believable that the wild guess of human scientists.

Sige nga ikaw tutal masyado kang bilib sa mga "evolutionist'

I challenge you to create something from nothing without a purpose.Or create an organic organism from an inorganic material (abiogenesis). Gawin mo sa lab yan.

pag di mo nasagot o nagawa yan, Evolution is rubbish. A freaky theory from day-dreaming scientist like darwin.

I also said ALMOST all scientists, not all. I know there are scientists who find it hard to believe in the evolutionary theory because they are scared of its implications and the vacuum it would create in their lives.

Yup, we should be scared by the lies created by this people espousing evolution.

Yeah there is a vacuum when this hoax called evolution is being repeated many times.

The more you read this evolution the more you ask questions.

Spontaneous creation. Life evolve randomly? Without a purpose?

So you were born without a purpose?

And you randomly just existed?

So the number of bones or genes in our body was randomly determined?

Because for them, believing in evolution means agreeing that life has no purpose but this is not necessarily so for some people. Evolution might explain how the diversity of life forms came to be by a mechanism (natural selection), but does not tell us about the energy that pushes every electron to continue spinning around the nucleus of an atom, nor does it explain why matter has certain tendencies, like positive and negative charge and so on. Believing in evolution is not tantamount to becoming a godless fool.

I disagree.

how come herbivores, carnivores and omnivores exist? for no purpose at all?

You mentioned mechanism (natural selection). Who made that?random na naman?wala lang basta nagyari na lang di ba?

Only a Godless fool (of course not you) will take evolution hook, line and sinker.

Anyway, my advice is the same. Read up. It might make me sound arrogant and smarter-than-thou but I truly think you need to read more about the subject before you make such hasty judgments. I am writing these in the wrong thread so this will be the last OT reply. hehe.

No need. Evolution is rubbish.

15 hotels to open this year (http://http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/?page=news4_mar23_2009)
By Roderick T. dela Cruz

FIFTEEN new hotels and resorts offering 2,000 rooms will open this year despite the economic downturn, the Tourism Department says.

The new properties are worth P20 billion, and they will be employing 3,000 workers, the department says.

It says some of these new properties have already opened, and they include 28 cluster villas under the Amanpulo Resorts, which owns Sugihara Villa Resort, Vauban Villa Resort, Salamanca Villa Resort, Almonavides Villa Resort, La Galice Villa Resort, Kapangyarihan Villa Resort, and La Pucelle Villa Resort.

Rates at the Amanpulo properties start at $1,150 a night.

Shangri La’s Boracay Resort & Spa, with 219 rooms, opened to guests on March 2 with daily rates of P20,500.

Discovery Bay Misibis on Cagraray Island, Albay, with 38 villas, also opened early this year with room rates starting at $305 a night.

The 75-room Park Bed and Breakfast Hotel and Restaurant in Pasay City, which is managed by Legend Hotels International Corp., has also opened, and its rates start at P1,500 a night.

The 50-room Microtel Inn and Suites in Puerto Princesa opened early this year, and it offers a daily rate of P3,800.

The largest hotel in Cebu, the 556-room Imperial Palace Waterpark Resort, will open on May 20, although it has yet to announce its room rates, the department says.

It says more hotels and resorts are opening in the second half of the year, including the 232-room Oakwood Premier Manila in Ortigas Center, which opens its doors to guests in the third quarter. The room rates at its sister facility, the Oakwood Makati, start at P10,000 a night.

The 100-room Picasso Serviced Residences in Salcedo Village, Makati, is expected to be completed by Ardent Development Corp. by the second half.

Also opening in the second half are two luxury hotels near the airport in Manila and beside the Villamor Championship Golf Course.

The Newport Marriott Hotel will have 365 guest rooms, and Maxims Hotel 170 suites.

The P500-million Silang Wakeboard Park is rising up on a 12-hectare plot of land in Silang, Cavite, and it’s expected to open by August.

The Manila Ocean Park in Rizal Park is building extra facilities including a boutique hotel.

The Tourism Department is also processing an application from Bella Roca Island Resort and Spa in Marinduque.

Tourism Secretary Ace Durano says these new investments in tourism-related facilities and establishments are expected to add more than 2,000 new accommodation rooms and generate 3,000 jobs.

“With this initial list of investments, the country is assured of a vibrant tourism industry with bigger revenue and more jobs,” Durano said.

The new hotels and resorts will pay no taxes for four to six years and may import capital equipment tax-free if they are registered with the Board of Investments, according to Victoria Jasmin, director of the Office of Tourism Standards.

Meanwhile, the Tourism Bill is expected to result in more investment and create more tourism zones once it is signed into law.

The Senate and the House’s bicameral conference committee has approved the bill, which will give the Tourism Department powers beyond its marketing functions.

Can we leave the issue of evolution and creationism out of this thread, its really souring the great collection of photographs we have here.

Create a thread or email each other about it. creationists and evolutionists (which i believe in) have irreconcilable differences, so an argument here between the two would be distracting.

San Remigio resort invests P8.5 million for expansion (http://http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=451758&publicationSubCategoryId=108)
Updated March 25, 2009 12:00 AM

CEBU, Philippines – San Remigio Beach Club, in the northern part of Cebu, poured in P8.5 million for new facilities noting the increasing demand for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibition (MICE) in the market.

San Remigio Beach Club general manager Mark Anthony Ynoc said that with their new facilities, the resort’s capacity has stretched to accommodating trainings, workshops, and team building sessions of bigger groups.

Ynoc said that despite the economic crisis, the resort pushed through with its expansion plans bearing in mind the huge demand from group activities citing previous huge group bookings including summer and winter camps of Korean students.

“We felt the demand and this huge demand urged us to really pursue the expansion despite the crisis. There is always opportunity in every crisis and now we are already capable of handling and accommodating big groups because of our expanded capacity,” said Ynoc.

He revealed that around six million was pitched for the construction of two convention centers while another P2.5 million was pegged for the dormitories.

The four dormitory rooms can accommodate 14 people for every room and with this; the resort now has 50 rooms in all.

Aside from these new developments in the resort, San Remigio Beach Club is eyeing to also put up more facilities that will enhance the area and attract more guests both local and foreign, said Ynoc.

After the dormitories and the convention center were launched, the resort is now preparing to start the construction of its Sir Anthony Spa and Sauna, Honeymoon suites and a pool which is eyed to be opened in 2010.

A business lounge is also being eyed to provide ease and convenience to business guests who are in need to always get connected through the internet.

The San Remigio Beach Club is a 7.5 hectare property in Baybay, Tambongon in the town of San Remigio in the north side of the province.

Currently, its development and utilization of the whole property is 70 percent developed.

Ynoc said that with the current global crisis which has affected the operations of some players of the country’s hospitality industry, San Remigio Beach Club is strengthening its hold of the market both local and foreign. — Rhia de Pablo

hmmm i've been to these places. I highly recommend this to everyone. may it be a wishful thinking or not, what matters most is the idea of what's the best summer places in the country aside from boracay, palawan, cebu, etc.

it's ok but let me inform you that surigao is one of the safest place in mindanao if not the safest. I can assure you to that @le Reine. Peace and Order is never been a question, so nothing to worry about.

try joining the gawad kalinga, i heard they're doing mindanao this summer, show them what a benevolent queen you are while you travel :D

i also wanna go to siargao.. i think its the most pacific island looking place in the whole PI. those islands almost resemble palau, micronesia, even fiji. oh this country is so blessed to have Asia on one side and the Pacific on the other :D

here's another proof why davao is synonymous to adventure.

Wakeboarding with Sherilyn

March 25, 2009

For those looking for a new travel destination while learning a new sport, Davao City could well be your next stop! Nandito ang Deca Wakeboard Park, ang bagong venture ni Sherilyn Reyes.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i292/naxju/she3.jpg

First, the facts: Deca Wakeboard Park is set out to be the biggest wakeboarding park in Southeast Asia, and Sherilyn Reyes (and her family) will be the ones in charge of managing and operating it. The Wakeboard Park is located at Mintal, Davao City and is just a mere 30 minutes away from the airport.

"Deca Wakeboard Park was named after the company na nag-develop," Sherilyn says. "[The] grand opening will be in May, tapos hopefully, tangkilikin ng mga wakeboarders at ng mga gusto pang mag-wakeboard."

How did Sherilyn get into this business?

Ayon sa aktres, her family is really into wakeboarding. "Tapos itong Wakeboard Park na 'to was built as an amenity to [a] village, instead of 'yung mga golf courses."

Ngayong involved na siya dito, Sherilyn is rolling out her ideas to ensure the project’s success. "Isa sa mga plano namin ang mag-hold ng international competition. [Tapos] siguro at the end of the year, or early next year, magbubukas din [ng branch] sa Clark [Pampanga]."

She also reveals plans to build at least 20 units in time for the launch to accommodate tourists and wakeboard enthusiasts who may opt to stay the night at the park.

Wakeboarding sounds fun.

Very fine ang buhangin. Dapat punta kami dun last year kasama yung isang barkada at ang bayaw niya. Sayang di natuloy.

;34182254']Yup, malalim sya compared sa Panglao (Bohol Beach Club) lalo na yung sa harap mismo ng Polaris.

Kumusta naman ang experience?

Guys, what about accomodation price for those places you've been to. That would somehow help us in deciding where to go. ;)

geograpically Palawan is not part of the Philippines and yes it's true Palawan is not moving in its current location that's why there is no recorded earthquake in that island.

Its more like geologically. Palawan island is way older than the rest of the Philippines and shares floral and faunal affinity, together with Mindoro, with Borneo. Now Not on mainland Palawan but in one of the islands of the Palawan Island group, I'm referring to Calamian island group north of main Palawan Island, there in the island of Busuanga, is a hot spring called Maquinit Hot Springs which suggests geological activities beneath. now not all fault lines generate earthquakes, but I think this geologic point is the one that slowly pushes the Palawan plate if you might call it, to drift towards the South China Sea.:)

Vacationing soon? Ten Tipid tips to make the most out of it

With school out and the Holy Week break coming up, the usual question is, “Where will you be this Holy Week?” Or “What will you do this summer?”

Whether it’s to the beach, the mountains or the city you’re headed for (or staying put in), here are some ways to save money on your vacation as shared by frequent travelers:

1. Book and buy your plane tickets online. You may be able to get better rates online. And if you get the no-frills ticket (no meals, non-refundable, non-rebookable, with no check-in baggage), you will get even better rates. Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines offer special promos for those booking and buying their tickets online early.

2. Make a checklist of all things you need to bring. Don’t forget stuff like camera batteries, cellphone charger, an extra memory card, hat, sunblock, etcetera. These things may cost you more if you buy them at your destination.

3. Research on the places worth visiting in your destination. Plan your itinerary for each day to save on gas or transportation fare. It will also clue you in on where to eat, shop, get a massage, and so on at reasonable prices. Check out places you can get in for free, such as museums and art galleries, parks, etc.

4. Have enough cash with you and bring your credit card as well. It can be a hassle looking for an ATM when you’re in a remote place like the beach. Abroad, you may also get better foreign exchange rates by withdrawing local currency from your bank account using an ATM rather than having your money exchanged at the hotel. A credit card, on the other hand, will make it easier for you to make purchases and settle hotel bills.

5. Stay at a hotel that offers complimentary breakfast and free Internet access. This will save you a lot of pesos.

6. Bring snacks. Buying snacks at convenience stores will cost a lot more. And don’t raid the mini-ref in your hotel room. Good healthy snacks to bring include peanuts, trail mix, crackers, and cereal.

7. Buy pasalubong at the public market, rather than the mall or airport pasalubong counters. You’ll get the freshest stuff at the most affordable prices. In Baguio, strawberries and broccoli are best bought at the public market. In Cebu, head to the palengke for danggit and dried mangoes. Another plus: at public markets, you can bargain and make tawad.

8. Instead of patronizing the tourist-y places, go where the locals go and eat where they eat. Food in places frequented by locals are usually delicious and cheap.

9. Walk more instead of taking public transport. You’ll see more sights, put in some exercise time, and save money with just one effort.

10. Make sure your car is in tiptop condition. A flat tire, a conked engine, and an aircon running low on freon will not only inconvenience you; these will bore a hole in your pocket as well. Before you leave, check that your car is in good condition.

Have a great vacation!

^^ Nice set Kimber...

Let me comment on that...

1. No frills ticket. Be sure to bring a food on board. Para hindi mainggit pag tsibugan time na.

2. Accessories. Don't even think of buring them at your destination. Too much hassle.

3. Know your destination indeed. Especially if it's a foreign trip with very few locals who can speak Engligh. Read reviews and firsthand experiences. You'll be amazed to find out yourself if those reviews are actually over- or underrating the place.

4. Credit card. Some people suggest not bringing along your credit. If you are travelling overseas, I suggest you bring at least one. For contingency purposes.

7. Pasalubong. Better yet, don't buy any pasalubong at all.

Do you really get a a better airfare if you book and buy your ticket in the Philippines?

There are places in the Philippines who doesn't take credit cards and there are also places even in Manila who won't accept foreign creditcards or debit cards, I'm always leary in bringing cash with me which is hard while in the Philippines. Any good tips on how one can be safe with their cash, I don't think i would be comfy leaving anything valuable in the hotel rooms, I guess you can ask not to open the room or leave a "do not distrube" sign outside your door so no hotel staff would come in. I think some hotels have safe inside right? I think I remember Shangrila has safe inside the room but I am not 100% sure.

^^ Isn't it the same wherever you are as long as you can access their (PAL and Cebu Pac's) websites? The discounted rates are only available through credit. Yup, not by cash. :ohno:

In general, the rates are cheaper if your flight is in the middle of the week and either very early in the morning or late in the evening. Not all seats are available at a discounted rate so it pays to book early.

^^^^ dunno, i've never flown internationally with PAL and when i'm in the Philippines I just buy it at T2 office instead of elsewhere.

Whenever I check PAL's website, just to check it, it always piss me off so I usually give up. I have not tried Cebu Pacific website though.

^^ I see. I guess you'd have to be more patient if you want to avail of the discount. :D Not all international destinations are covered by the way but discounted rates are available for domestic flights and for some select destinations like Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, Shanghai, Osaka, Taipei, Honolulu, Vancouver, etc...

They'd charge full if you purchase it at their ticketing offices or over the counter.

Common guys and girls, contribute to the thread (Some damn Breathtaking) Philippines Travel Pictures. Anybody can post, but you must only post good quality philippine pictures. You can even repost philippine pictures found from Philippine Travel and Tourism Industry Thread, Hotels and Resorts in the Philippines Thread, Philippine Beach Destinations Thread and so on.

The thais, the malaysians, the indonesians, the europeans promote there countries why not you filipinos promote the Philippines through pictures.

;34424134']I know, right.. a baby whale shark was recently rescued off the shores of Donsol. That means Donsol is not just a feeding place but may also be a breeding ground for these gentle giants...

marami bang krills (sp?) sa Donsol? sana mabuhay yung baby shark. the good thing is...locals have developed this concern for environment that they never before had. instead of hunting for sharks, they can now use their skills in spotting sharks for tourists' viewing pleasure. i'd love to visit the place in the future.

we owe you for promoting the getaway destinations of the country. i enjoyed looking at your photos. especially the Terraces and El nido photos. El nido lools like Halong Bay of Vietnam with those towering limestone formations. you've travelled the country more than most of us locals do. :okay:

Sometimes, I'm thankful that Philippine tourism isn't as big as Thailand. I can't imagine these beautiful beaches to be crowded with tourists. I don't want all beaches to be like Boracay.

However, I hope that these would be at least easily accessible to the local tourists.

One thing I've noticed, we don't have that much width to our beaches (from the waterline to the treeline or some other boundary). We have the length, not the width.

Depends on which beach you mean Kiretoce. Hehe. But maybe one good reason for that is in the Philippines we have coconuts and many other sand-growing and saltwater resistant species of plants. That explains why the beach is almost always lined with trees a few meters from the coast. Hehe. Also, another major geological reason is that we are composed of small islands and naturally, bigger islands have greater tendencies to accumulate sand as these bigger islands are also mostly older ones. Geologically and relatively speaking, of course, our volcanic and subsequently coral islands are younger .

I wouldn't trade off our beaches though for any other place's.

^^ nope, ambulant vendors roam around there.... i think its because there are times they have to close the beach, there's a sign there saying if the water is fine for swimming or if its dangerous.... alam nyo naman pinoy, mapilit, kaya siguro ginawang barb wire yan.... AFAIK nasa balita yang beach na yan nitong April, may nalunod dahil lumakas ang waves...

^^Caramoan lures more ‘castaways’ from Israel (http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/nation/view/20090705-213893/Caramoan-lures-more-castaways-from-Israel)

MANILA, Philippines—A piece of paradise in Bicolandia continues to draw an international cast of castaways.

Like the French and the Bulgarians before them, Israelis have shot their own version of the popular reality TV show “Survivor” on the Caramoan peninsula in Camarines Sur, opening this tropical Eden to a larger global audience and tourism market.

“For Israelis, it’s a view they won’t see anywhere else,” said Guy Hameiri, CEO of the production outfit Reif Hameiri, in an interview last month at the company offices in Tel Aviv.

“We were overwhelmed when we saw the location, and I’m sure it will be very tempting for our audience to go see it themselves,” Hameiri said.

Show producer Gregory Bekerman observed that “the Philippines has a certain kind of green that I haven’t seen anywhere [else].”

He said he would return to the Philippines in September to scout for another site for future “Survivor” seasons.

“It’s paradise” captured through 22 cameras and some 3,000 hours of raw footage, Bekerman said.

The challenge now is to squeeze those amazing shots into 40 hour-long episodes.

A popular TV reality game show produced in many countries, “Survivor” isolates its contestants in the wilderness to compete for cash and prizes. They are divided into tribes and they vote off other contestants until only one is left.

$7 million

The two production executives updated Tourism Secretary Joseph Durano and a number of Manila-based journalists on the project during Durano’s official trip to Israel late last month.

A dramatic, minute-long teaser of the Caramoan episodes featuring sweeping aerial shots of beaches, cliffs and lush forest hills, with cutaways to local wildlife and colorful flora, was shown during the briefing.

The Israeli production, which Hameiri said cost some $7 million, conducted the Caramoan shoot from March to April.

It brought from Israel 20 contestants and a crew of around 120, and hired some 300 Filipino support personnel (about 80 from Manila and the rest from Camarines Sur).

The show—the third Israeli season of “Survivor”—will premiere in Israel in October.

The first two, which were shot in the Dominican Republic and Panama, had between 700,000 and 1 million viewers, covering a 40-percent share of the TV audience, Hameiri said.

But unlike the first two seasons where the shows’ title cited only the name of an island or region (“Survivor Caribbean” for the Dominican Republic shoot and “Survivor Pearl Island” for Panama), the Caramoan episodes will recognize the host country itself.

‘Very big thing’

“This season will be called ‘Survivor Philippines,’ so there is no question where it was shot,” Bekerman said.

He said it was the first time the show would be named after the host country “because, as we said, the place is so unique and it was a very big adventure to go there.”

“So it must be a very big thing for you,” Bekerman said, turning to Durano during the meeting arranged by Philippine Ambassador to Israel Petronila Garcia.

The French were the first to “discover” Caramoan as an ideal “Survivor” locale early in 2008. They closed Gota Beach to the public for weeks under the guise of what the provincial government then called “massive developments” at the local resort.

Though officially a secret, the French project nevertheless started a buzz that would eventually boost Caramoan’s reputation as the “next Boracay.”

In May, the Bulgarians also started shooting their edition of “Survivor” there.

Unique balance

Bekerman offered an explanation why Caramoan seemed to have become a favorite:

“On one hand, [a ‘Survivor’ location] has to be isolated from tourists, from local villages. But on the other hand, it must have the facilities to accommodate all the [production] people.

“This balance is quite unique [in Caramoan].”

And apart from the breathtaking scenery, Bekerman said, “we were amazed by the generosity of the people—very professional yet always smiling, and thinking how things can be better done.”

The local hires included residents of nearby villages, including women who helped build the various structures needed on the set as well as maintain the lodgings for the Israeli crew.

“I also personally liked [the local dishes] laing and another that had green papaya in it,” Bekerman said, smiling.

Until he came to the Philippines, Bekerman thought of it as just the homeland of the foreign workers in Israel.

“The whole experience turned out to be a pleasant surprise,” he said. “When I first came to your beautiful country [to scout for locations, I discovered that] the farther you go from Manila, the more welcoming the people are.”

Tour packages

Secretary Durano said Caramoan’s debut on Israeli television in October should put the Philippines back among the top leisure destinations for Israeli tourists.

“We in the Department of Tourism will support this [exposure] by facilitating tour packages with our partners in and outside the Philippines and other promotional events on the ground, as what we’ve done after [the French shoot],” he said.

Before the Reif Hameiri briefing, Durano met with Israeli tour and aviation executives at the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv, where he was told that some 100 Israeli teachers would be arriving in Manila for a congress later this year.

The embassy has since begun sending promotional materials to the teachers, according to Tourism Undersecretary Eduardo Jarque.

Sometimes, I'm thankful that Philippine tourism isn't as big as Thailand. I can't imagine these beautiful beaches to be crowded with tourists. I don't want all beaches to be like Boracay.

However, I hope that these would be at least easily accessible to the local tourists.

if this would be accessible to tourist. Thats when the problem starts.

DestinAsian (http://www.destinasian.com/issuedet.php?id=916), a Hongkong-based magazine, recognize Siargao Island as one of Asia's best island beaches.

10 Great Island Beaches

For that ultimate tropical idyll, nothing beats a ravishing stretch of sand—particularly when the beach in question is located on an equally serene isle. After a considerable amount of island-hopping around the region, our writers have identified 10 such strands that are among the best in Asia. Some of these picturesque shores are remote and undeveloped, while others pamper visitors with luxurious lodgings. But all share tha most elusive quality: paradise

Compiled by Natasha Dragun, with reports from Cynthia Rosenfeld, Leisa Tyler, David Tse, Martin Westlake, Petrina Price, and Cathy Paras-Lara.

From Malaysia to the Maldives, Asia has its fair share of exotic islands, fabled archipelagos, and legendary beaches. The fact that many come with abundant offshore attractions and luxury lodgings makes a visit even more appealing. Here, we travel to 10 countries to profile the region’s hottest island shores—endless stretches of sand fringed by rain forest and coral reefs—looking at when to go, what to do, where to be pampered, and the best places to eat and sleep when you arrive.

Bai Sao
Phu Quoc, Vietnam
Getting to Bai Sao, known locally as Star Beach, requires patience, but you’ll be well rewarded for your effort. Set on the southeast coast of Phu Quoc—Vietnam’s largest island, 50 kilometers from the mainland in the Gulf of Thailand—Bai Sao’s gentle arc of powdery sand sweeps down to shallow, turquoise waters that are warm year-round.

Where to Stay
Save for the occasional beach shack, Bai Sao is as yet undeveloped. But comfortable lodgings are close at hand. On Phu Quoc’s west-coast Duong Dong Beach, La Veranda (84-77/398-2988; laverandaresort.com; doubles from US$135), is only four kilometers from Bai Sao, easily accessed by bicycle or taxi. Rooms come with private balconies, paddle fans, and handmade decorative tiles, while the resort’s main wing is home to a breezy restaurant with ocean views.

What to Do
Feast on barbecued seafood at the small restaurants along Bai Sao in between dips in the bathwater-warm water. For something more active, hire a bike and pedal to the village of Ham Ninh, where you can pick up pearls and the island’s famed fish sauce. You don’t need scuba tanks to explore the shallow reefs, but there are several dive outfits on the island, and bamboo shark sightings are common offshore.

When to Go
The monsoons strike the island between June and November. Avoid the rain and visit in the dry season, when temperatures hover around 30°C.

Godellawela Bay
Sri Lanka
Set at the southernmost tip of the country, Godellawela Bay earned its local nickname, Dream Beach, for a reason. The long stretch of soft white sand is lapped by gently curling waves, and crystal-clear waters extend as far as the eye can see. The bay is hemmed by soaring coconut palms and rocky bluffs, making it one of the most secluded shores on the island.

Where to Stay
Postcard-perfect views are afforded by the 30 rooms at Amanwella (65/6887-3337; amanwella .com; doubles from US$325). Linger on daybeds on your private terrace before retreating to your suite—think classic Aman sleekness accented with floor-to-ceiling windows and fantail coconut-wood furniture. The resort’s restaurant dishes up the catch of the day above a 47-meter-long infinity pool.

What to Do
Time seems to lose meaning at Amanwella, where daybeds and hammocks pepper the path to the beach. Once you do finally make it to the shore, you might be rewarded with sightings of baby leatherback turtles—hatchings occur here every spring. Farther afield, spot elephants, exotic birds, and free-roaming tigers at Uda Walawe National Park.

When to Go
Sri Lanka’s sun shines brightest from November to April.

Kenting Beach
Taiwan
Nestled at the southern tip of Taiwan and surrounded by national parkland—fields of sugar cane, banana and coconut groves, and rain forest —Kenting Beach is a popular holiday spot. But if you time your visit right, you might have this strip of sand to yourself.

Where to Stay
The Kenting Chateau Beach Resort (886-8/886-2345; ktchateau.com.tw; doubles from US$182) features three themed guest wings; rooms in the Marbella Hall and Italian-style Positano Hall come with ocean views and private balconies. Seafood stars at the resort’s four restaurants; the Barbados Beach Bar is just meters from the sand and is great place to catch a dazzling sunset.

What to Do
From bird- watching to banana boating, there’s never a dull moment on Kenting Beach. Ornithologists will want to head inland to the Kenting National Park on the banks of Lungruan Lake. On any given day in October, thousands of migrating gray-faced buzzard eagles and Chinese sparrow hawks pass through here. If you’re feeling restless, try your hand at paragliding, mountain biking, or snorkeling.

When to Go
Surfers will not want to miss the awesome curls that roll in between November and March. With the monsoon season past, these months are also good for diving and snorkeling—the waters are crystal clear, and the crowds have subsided. Avoid summer, when temperatures can soar and the beach becomes overrun with vacationers from Taipei and Kaohsiung.

Landaa Giraavaru Beach
Baa Atoll, Maldives
Clownfish and Oriental sweetlips add color to the azure waters that surround this 18-hectare isle in the Baa Atoll, a 45-minute seaplane flight north of the international airport. Of the Maldives’ 1,190 coral islands, Landaa Giraavaru boasts one of the most romanticsandbanks—it changes hue and shape from sunrise to sunset.

Where to Stay
Guests at the Four Seasons Resort Maldives Landaa Giraavaru (960/660-0888; fourseasons.com; doubles from US$800), the island’s only accommodations, can watch fish swim into view from the massage beds inside Landaa Spa’s glass-bottomed suites. Waves break against Sri Lankan architect Ismail Murad’s striking over-water villas, while at Al Barakat, the open-air restaurant, underwater lights keep guests entertained while they dine on aromatic mezzes and succulent chicken couscous with cinnamon, chickpeas, and raisins.

What to Do
Take an underwater tour with one of the resort’s six resident marine biologists, who oversee endeavors like the 200-plus coral propagation trays that enhance the island’s lagoon. Snorkel deeper into the Indian Ocean in search of butterfly fish and white-tail unicorn fish, or strap on a tank and dive with mantas and sharks.

When to Go
The best time to view underwater life is between December and April, when the sea is calm and clear. Manta rays and whale sharks are seen in their highest numbers from July to November.

Luhuitou Bay
Hainan Island, China
Hainan Island, China’s southernmost province, may be best known for its Yalong Bay resorts, but nearby Luhuitou Bay has won us over for its crowd-free strip of white sand. Backed by foothills, the beach borders calm, clear waters that offer some of the best diving on the island.

Where to Stay
Opened in 2008, the Banyan Tree Sanya Resort & Spa (86-898/8860-9988; banyantree.com; doubles from US$249) offers 49 villas, each with private plunge pools, landscaped gardens, and outdoor bathtubs. The decor is smart and minimal, with an earthy palette offsetting the tropical surrounds. Four open-air restaurants and bars look out to the South China Sea, where fishing boats ply the waters in search of your next meal.

What to Do
It may not have its own dive center, but the Banyan Tree can arrange scuba expeditions in a snip. On dry land, make the most of the resort’s village tours, or tee off at the nearby Sanya Luhuitou Golf Course. Recuperate at the Banyan Tree’s sprawling spa, where traditional Chinese medicine is paired with state-of-the-art hydrothermal facilities.

When to Go
The rainy season hits the island between May and October and can turn the sand into sludge. The best time to visit is between November and March, when temperatures are in the mid-20s.

Nihiwatu Beach
Sumba, Indonesia
Around 400 kilometers east of Bali on the southwest coast of Sumba Island, this pristine strand is a popular pilgrimage site for surfers, who descend to hang ten on theoffshore wave known as “God’s Left.” But when they pack up their boards come evening, you’ll have the entire 2.5-kilometer-long stretch of sand to yourself.

Where to Stay
The Nihiwatu (62-361/757-149; nihiwatu.com; doubles from US$490) resort’s sea-facing villas include a sprawling three-bedroom hilltop chalet with private pool overlooking the Indian Ocean. The thatched-roof rooms are outfitted with Sumbanese textiles and a host of modern amenities.

What to Do
In the interest of surfer safety, a strict policy limits wave riders to nine at a time, but there is plenty to keep you entertained otherwise. The resort organizes activities like fishing trips (the area is famed for its Spanish mackerel, wahoo, and trevally), snorkeling and scuba diving, and boat excursions to the three seashell-strewn coves of Konda Maloba Bay, an hour’s journey to the south. At low tide, staff leads tours to nearby villages, where you chat with locals and pick up beautiful handicrafts.

When to Go
The best breaks wash ashore from April to December, after which the monsoon season descends. The Nihiwatu resort is closed from January 10 to February 28.

Radhanagar Beach
Havelock Island, India
One of only a handful of India’s far-flung Andaman Islands where tourism has a toehold, Havelock fulfills the pristine-beach dreams of no more than 10,000 visitors a year. Those who make the journey will be rewarded with a stunning two-kilometer ribbon of footprint-free sand along Havelock’s west coast. Radhanagar, unofficially known as Beach No. 7, backs onto dense rain forest, where coconut palms reach out from a thick mesh of ferns and cast shadows over the translucent, sandy-bottomed cove.

Where to Stay
The island’s best digs, Barefoot at Havelock (91-319/228-2151; barefootindia.com; doubles from US$80) is a rustic, low-impact resort with 18 thatched-roof cottages built from bamboo and palm fronds. Some come with air-conditioning, but a better way to cool down is with an Iyengar yoga class by the water. Even the most jaded globetrotters will fork over the considerable fee to have their photo taken underwater with Rajan, the resort’s 58-year-old swimming elephant—his trunk is his snorkel.

What to Do
Lionfish and Napoleon wrasse abound in the 15 dive sites off Radhanagar. Snorkelers will be enthralled by the vibrant hues of the lagoon’s coral gardens, just meters from the sand. Visitors can also kayak through surrounding mangroves in search of monitor lizards and crocodiles, trek into the canopied forest (home to 150 animal and plant species unique to these islands), or go deer-spotting along the beach at sunrise.

When to Go
Rajan remains on land during the monsoon season, from May to October. To avoid the downpours, and to glimpse turtle hatchlings, visit between December and March.

Siargao Beach
Siargao, Philippines

Siargao Island, a tiny islet 800 kilometers southeast of Manila, is another site that surfers flock to on a regular basis. The waves at Cloud 9, a notorious break off the island’s eponymous beach, are said to be the best in the Philippines, and the white sands they curl towards are powder-soft.

Where to Stay
The brand-new Kalinaw Resort (63-921/320-0442; kalinawresort.com; doubles from US$136) is the only luxe accommodations on the island. Kalinaw (which translates as “peaceful” in Visayan) features a series of design-oriented cottages with dark-wood floors, free Wi-Fi access, and beach views.

What to Do
If you’re not tackling Cloud 9’s barrel rolls, take to the water and explore the nearby Sohoton Caves, a beachfront nature reserve hemmed by wild forest cliffs with semi-submerged caves. Alternately, ask the resort to pack you a picnic hamper and spend the day paddling between the shallow reefs.

When to Go
The best waves are to be had between July and November, although these months do coincide with monsoon season. To avoid the rain, visit between November and May.

Sunrise Beach
Koh Lipe, Thailand
One of the 51 islands that constitute the Tarutao National Marine Park in the Andaman Sea, off the southwest coast of Thailand, the tiny isle of Koh Lipe is as popular for its sand as it is for its sea. Of the island’s four main beaches, Sunrise catches the early morning rays, casting silhouettes of coconut palms over a stretch of soft sand.

Where to Stay
One of the newest hotels on the island, the Idyllic Concept Resort (66-81/802-5453; idyllicresort.com; doubles from US$83) is set amid tropical gardens that end in ocean-facing bungalows overlooking Sunrise Beach. Sixteen airy villas are minimal in design, but come with mod-cons including flatscreen TVs and broadband Internet access.

What to Do
The petite island is easily explored on foot, but Idyllic can also organize bikes and motorcycles. While the reefs immediately offshore abound with aquatic life (the 2004 tsunami had little impact here), divers should not miss the opportunity to explore Tarutao, Thailand’s first marine park, covering some 1,490 square kilometers. These waters are home to dolphins and sperm whales, as well as an incredible 25 percent of the world’s tropical fish species.

When to Go
The best, albeit busiest, time to visit Koh Lipe is in December, when the weather is relatively cool and the rainy season has passed. Diving is optimal in March and April, when the water is still and clear and tourist numbers have subsided. Daily ferries connect Koh Lipe with surrounding islands from November to May, with weekly crossings between May and November.

Teluk Dalam Kecil Beach
Redang Island, Malaysia
Set at the northern tip of Redang Island, off the east coast of the Malay Peninsula, this idyllic beach is lined with powder-soft sand surrounded by rain forest. Splash about in the turquoise waters of the sheltered lagoon, or swim out to Aziz’s Reef, 100 meters offshore, where you’ll find an underwater menagerie bursting with marine life.

Where to Stay
The best lodgings on this sparsely populated strip of sand are the new hillside villas at the Berjaya Redang Beach Resort (609/630-8888; berjayaresorts.com; doubles from US$265), replete with private patios and unbeatable lagoon views. What to Do It’s hard not to spend day after lazy day on the beach. But if you must take shelter, pull up one of the resort’s padded sunloungers, set under thatched umbrellas. There’s always a game of volleyball on the go, and the Berjaya’s marine centre is fully equipped to take out divers of all experience levels. On-land adventure seekers can trek into the rain forest towards Teluk Dalam Besar Beach, equally idyllic and often deserted.

When to Go
Redang is blessed with blue skies for most of the year, except between November and January when the monsoon strikes.[/QUOTE]
