I want to explore the Philippines first before i venture to other lands.

If i had the resources, gusto ko libutin ang mundo.

I want to explore the Mediterranean, hehe. I want to visit Croatia (saw a special on BBC a few years ago, the place is awesome) Of course, Greece, Venice, Cyprus, Sicily, Ibiza, Barcelona, Marseilles, Monaco, then Capri, St. Tropez and other isles..hehe..

Tapos gusto ko pumunta sa Somalia, Kenya..extremes, from the playground of the rich to the most squalid places.

Then saan pa? sa HK, Tokyo, NY, Chicago and other cities with frenetic paces then off to Maldives, Fiji, Bora-Bora, Easter Island, and other Micronesian atolls for some peaceful relaxation.

Of course, the world's greatest cities: Paris, London, Berlin, Rome, Marrakech, Cairo, Jerusalem, Beijing, Rio de Janeiro..

Tapos..waaa..dami pa..i want to explore places with great culture: India, Thailand, China, Mexico (Aztecs)

Tsaka Ireland..ganda kasi ng landscape..

and many more (pwede lahat? dream lang naman)..wahaha (dream on Dex) :D

Philippines: haven't been to Palawan and Boracay yet, but planning on going to Palawan next year, and Boracay for the coming Christmas season. ;)

World: hmm... tennis grand slam venues: Melbourne, Paris, Wimbledon, and New York. ;) Aside from those, well quite a lot. I always wanted to explore places... but top of the list for me right now (because they seem to be most possible for me for the time being)... Singapore and Tokyo.

I'd like to go to the Holy Land, Kathmandu, Rome, Prague, South of France, Madrid and Barcelona, Spain; Japan; China, the Patagonas, etc. I'd like to go back to Venice and take the gondola ride and drink the best capuccino.
I don't like to travel alone anymore or with my parents. I'd like to travel with a special someone. But if I travel alone, I'd like for it to be a spiritual quest/retreat, or then again, another one of those educational/professional conferences, which I also enjoy.

Hmmm.. I've to many places locally and abroad but here are some of those that I want to see before I die...

Locally...
Banaue Rice Terraces, Chocolate Hills of Bohol, Cebu, Batanes, Zamboanga, and Camiguin

Abroad
Pyramids of Gyza and Cairo, Paris, Amsterdam, New York, Chicago, Rome and the Vatican, Venice, Johannesburg, Taj Mahal of Agra, Sydney, Lhasa, Barcelona, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and London.

Those are on top of my list but if I get the chance to see more than above.. I'd be glad.. :D

Anyways, I have a book entitled '1000 Places to See Before You Die' and currently I've been to 11 of the places listed there. My target is to at least see 25% of the list.. :D

i would love to go to all the nations there are and of course their capitals. have my picture taken at their most famous landmark or some unique place and make a book out if it. however, since that plan sounds so unrealistic and improbable, i would love to:
* roam around the whole philippine archipelago including basilan, sulu, jolo, and tawi-tawi and..

go to:
asia:
*tokyo
*beijing
*bhutan
*tibet
*nepal
*mumbai
*maldives

n. america/caribbeans:
*barrow, alaska during the summer (still snowing in the summer)
*mexico city
*havana, cuba

s. america:
*cuzco, peru
*macchu picchu
*amazon jungle
*rio de janeiro, brazil
*tierra del fuego, argentina (magellan passed through here on his way to the spice is.)

europe:
*london
*paris
*vatican/rome
*swiss alps
*moscow
*reykjavik, iceland
*venice
*auschwitz (i would love to see the concentration camp. i am just so fascinated by WWII)
*istanbul (both the european and asian side of course.)

africa/middle east:
*cairo/ pyramids
*jerusalem
*beirut
*south africa (go on a safari and to go find me some diamonds) :)
*baghdad

as my list progressed, i realized that my "shorter" list is still greatly unrealistic and will probably not happen until i accumulate so much wealth in the coming years. :)

Hi ALL adventure travelers!!:)

I like to visit The Philippines, mainly Davao and place myself on Samal Islands and not leave it..for a few months and I like to visit all the countries on my own so beautiful multi cultural home continent Europe, that I have not yet visited....

A suggestion visit my home country in the midst of winter by minus -15-35C, such beautiful stary winternights it is hard to find anywere else but in very cold countries , were the air is crystal clear and you can see the milky way and experience "aurora lights"....so, so beautiful..

:goodbye:

Hi Lili  you know my name? hahaha yeap, I have seen you to sometimes in the Davao thread. Nice meeting you now really :) I look forward to my trip to Davao. Have you been there?

As cold as my country is in the winter as hot it can get in the summers, we can thank the Golf stream for our warm summers with up to +30C dry heat and a very short, intense summer with sunshine around the clock. The Scandinavian countires are extreme when it comes to weather, darkness and light...:)

Hi Lena  Welcome to Samahan (Gathering/Togetherness)! Nice of you to venture this way. Yeah, I know your name 'coz you are quite famous in the Davao threads. You got them gentlemen of Davao swooning. ;) Enjoy your stay in the Philippines. Get one of the gentlemen there to care for you while you are there.

I've only been to Davao on a short trip when I was very young. But I know that the South is very beautiful. They have a good blend of the pristine nature and the cosmopolitan city. The folks are very good-natured. I also liked Cagayan De Oro. I wish I was able to visit other parts of Mindanao.

Eastern Europe is very nice and have many interesting places a nice choice , Egypt too Kairo is hot, hot and have a very nice interesting perfumestore were they make your very own special sensual fragrance....but maybe that is just girly stuff..:D..never seen Israel up close or South Africa...my friend Dinabaw in Davao recommended South Africa..he said there are some very nice mountains there to look at.. :)

So Manila has a nice night life?? I am stopping there for a little while when going to Davao. Can you recommend some places???

Hope you get to see your favorite places ramvinger!!! :)

Lili
June 29th, 2006, 08:37 PM
^^ I'd like to go that special fragrance shop in Cairo, Egypt, @Lena. I'm glad to read about those interesting tidbits about certain places in the world. I was wondering at first why anybody would want to go to South Africa.

I have a friend who got married in Prague and the pictures were all beautiful! Too bad I wasn't able to go since I was not her friend yet when she got married. I'd like to go there, too.

I wish I can recommend nightspots in Manila for you to go to when you visit Lena, but I have not been there for a while and not too familiar with the 'happening' places anymore. It's quite hot in the Philippines, too. I hope that you can adjust to the weather there when you go on your trip/stay. :)

^^ Why go to South Africa? Coz of the safaris, Lili! Hehe! It's always been my dream to go on a safari and camp out surrounded by the wild animals. And I can pretend to be a wildlife biologist like I've always wanted to be.

@Lena - I have not been back in Manila for five years now. Currently in Los Angeles. So I am no longer familiar with the new places. Makati and Malate areas should be good bets to find great bars and clubs. :)

Lili
June 29th, 2006, 09:23 PM
Then go to Nairobi, Kenya or The Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire) for the Safari. I have my misgivings about South Africa because of its history of apartheid. I hope that they are making headways in totally eradicating this.

kunoL8
June 29th, 2006, 09:30 PM
^^ i think they have eradicated apartheid a long time ago. nelson mandela was south africa's first black president. the black majority enoys the same rights as the white minority. they have the same problem with the philippines though when it comes to wealth distribution.

i don't think the Congo has safaris. from what i know, it's jungle country over there since it is technically part of central africa. and besides, isn't it like really dangerous to go there? i think they're having a civil was or something. :)

Hi Lili...Prauge is so beautiful such a special european city so if you ever get a chance... go there...I love Prauge it has many artist and writers you feel Kafka and Kisch in the air, nice jazz clubs and nice gothic buildings, the prices are low compared to many other places in Europe...it is a place I can highly recommend ...a nice experience...and they have the dark bitter beer...that is so nice when it is cold and you are hot..beutiful bridges too just a very nice place to visit...

Well I hope I can take the heat in the Philippines it is humid, I am used to very dry heat not humid, well i used to study and live in the USA for some years in the north of the west coast. There it was also humid...think I can take it ...if not well what do I do ...:ohno:..... will just drink alot of water and live in the water

Thanks, ramvinger Ok..we will make way through Makati and Malate...:)

I wish for you that you get to be that wildlife bioligist like you always wanted to be on a Africa Safari amognst the wilsdest of animals...:) :)

You asked if I am a filipina ?? No, I am not from the Philippines I am as swedish as can be and as pale too, the winter and the lack of light part of the year makes us pale and invisible in snow. :jk: no, but I am a scandinavian..

Hi Lena,
We haven't met yet. I'm Cha. I think I could help you out with some hot spots to check out in Manila...
Like Ramvingar said, there's always Makati and Malate. Makati is a bit more upscale especially if you go to Greenbelt (try Temple or Absinthe). Malate is a bit more laid back.
You can also go to Quezon City (Timog Ave and Tomas Morato specifically) or Eastwood Libis.
Or then there's Embassy in Fort Bonifacio Global City, which is where all the rich kids and artistas go.
Also, there was this outta the way place in Pasig City that I really liked, called Bagaberde. Good, chill place to listen to a live act or play pool in the back patio. Nice view and nice ambiance.
Wow I can go on and on. :D

Hi Lena... welcome to Samahan. :) You're based in Malmo? I've never been there but I did visit Stockholm (rival city? hehehe) once, when I did a little scandinavian tour a few years back. I had a nice time in Stockholm, and I found it to be a pretty amazing city, albeit a little expensive. ;)

Enjoy your visit to the Philippines!

Then go to Nairobi, Kenya or The Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire) for the Safari. .

Parang naman ang taray ng dating ng lola mo dito!

I have a friend in South Africa so lodging will not be a problem. :) But of course, the ultimate adventure will be in the Serengeti! Oh how I wish!

@Lena - thanks for the wish but it is too late for me now I think. Haha! I will just watch National Geographic channel instead to live my dream vicariously.

Hi Cha  thanks alot for all the suggestions they are valuable to me.I feelt a sponatnious interest for the one that artist visit, and the live act one...and ...well it becomes all interesting more or less when going through your suggestions....thanks alot:)

@quietlife Not often I meet a person in an Asian thread that visited my country ..yeap I am a Malmö girl...no, no Stockholm is not a rival city, this is a small country and we need each other so no rivalry going on here :) Stockholm is a very nice city that I apreciate , it is beautyful for the eyes to look at, all built up on different islands that connect with bridges and boats...it offers alot of entertanment and sightseeings too...one problem is just like you say, it is expensive...Sweden is just so, so expensive . Thanks I am sure I will enjoy the Philippines to the fullest :)

@ramvinger this will sound like a cliché but notthing is ever to late...:wink2:

The United States has always been my dream... I want to visit NewYork City specifically the Statue of Liberty and shop at 5th ave and SOHO in Manhattan. I also want to go to Niagara Falls. I have been dreaming too of California... and would love to drive and cross the golden gate bridge. Fortunately, this dream has turned into reality. I am in ninth avenue between 44th and 45th street, Manhattan, New York City while typing this message. I have been here for almost half a year already. I have been roaming around the big apple city. I also got the chance to visit Niagara Falls, NY state side in Buffalo. I've been to Michigan, Pennyslevania, New Jersey, Virginia and Washington DC. The only thing is I haven't been to California. I am hoping that I would be able to drop by there before I return to the Philippines. Aside from the US, I have been to Tokyo, Japan I find the place clean and very organized. As I have travelled from one place to the other, still there's no place that offers so much warmth... and it's only found in the 7,107 islands of THE PHILIPPINES. I am so excited to be back home, to the city of golden friendship... Cagayan de Oro. :-)

From the pages of Time

By Rodel Rodis
INQ7.net
Last updated 12:14pm (Mla time) 08/15/2006

Since 9/11, more than 1,000 Filipino TNTs (overstaying tourists or immigrants with criminal convictions) have been deported back to the Philippines at US government expense. This is not the first time the United States has engaged in the wholesale removal of unwanted Filipinos from the US. The first concerted effort, occurring more than 70 years ago, was covered by Time magazine in an article published on October 3, 1938. The title of the piece (“Philippine Flop”) signified Time’s editorialized view of the “repatriation” (the euphemism then for “deportation”) of Filipinos back to the Philippines.

“Aboard the S. S. President Coolidge when it cleared the Golden Gate for Manila last week were 75 guests of the U. S. Government. They were Filipinos taking their next-to-last chance to go home at U. S. expense. Already 1,900 had taken a free ride home since the Filipino Repatriation Act was passed in the summer of 1935. Just one more Filipino repatriation party is to be given before December 31, when the Act expires.

“Although $237,000 has been spent to date on Filipino fares, both Immigration officials and California Labor regard the repatriation program as a flop. Remaining in the U. S. are 120,000 low-paid Filipino farm workers, houseboys, janitors, cooks. Half are in California, 97% are bachelors about 30 years old.

"’The boys,’ explained Dr. Hilario C. Moncado, president of the Filipino Federation of America, "do not want to go back without money or assurance they will earn a living." Another good reason is that, in some cases, boys are loathe to leave a country where, as a California judge remarked (TIME, April 13, 1936), they boast of enjoying the favors of white girls because they are a very superior grade of lovers.’”

It was considered a “flop” because 120,000 Filipinos refused to be “repatriated” back to the Philippines. If all 120,000 Filipinos had been repatriated as the Act anticipated, it would have been hailed as a success.

That April 13, 1936 issue of Time also carried a piece (“Lovers’ Departure”) that would not be shocking if it appeared in an anti-Filipino racist journal (maybe that’s what Time was). It surely had the effect of inflaming anti-Filipino sentiment in towns throughout the United States where, one would surmise, if Filipino men appeared, the white men there would hide their women and prepare their ropes.

The article explained that the enactment of the Filipino Repatriation Act of 1935 was the result of the lobbying of Pacific Coast Labor which resented Filipinos for “selling their services for 10¢ an hour in competition with white men. “

Believe it or not, the racial stereotype of “big black men” now (as having “superior male attractions”) were once the province of “little brown men”. Here is an excerpt from the Time article: “The Pacific Coast was interested in this subsidized exodus not only from the standpoint of labor but also from the standpoint of race and sex. In many places Filipinos are "problem children" for Pacific Coast authorities. To the intense dismay of race-conscious Californians, these little brown men not only have a preference for white girls, particularly blondes, but have even established to many a white girl's satisfaction their superior male attractions.”

The Time article quoted extensively from San Francisco Municipal Court Judge Sylvain Lazarus who ruled in a case involving a Filipino man coveted by two white women, "This is a deplorable situation,” Judge Lazarus said. “It is a dreadful thing when these Filipinos, scarcely more than savages, come to San Francisco, work for practically nothing, and obtain the society of these girls. Because they work for nothing, decent white boys cannot get jobs."

The widely-publicized Lazarus denunciation of Filipinos prompted the Filipino community in San Francisco to pass a resolution denouncing the judge for his racist view of Filipinos. The resolution was sent to Washington DC to Philippine Resident Commissioner Quintin Paredes (no RP Ambassador as the Philippines was a US Commonwealth). Paredes promptly wrote Judge Lazarus a note stating that "I cannot believe that you had in any way intended to refer to my people as a whole."

Judge Lazarus immediately responded to Paredes: "I intend to be as straightforward with you as you have been considerate with me. Basing my conclusions on years of observation, I regret to say that there is probably no group in this city, proportionate to its members, that supplies us with more criminal business than the local Filipino colony. It is no compliment to the predominant race that most crimes committed by Filipinos have as background intimate relations with white girls.”

Judge Lazarus continued: “I am making allowance for the fact that there is a scarcity—I imagine almost a total absence—of Filipino girls in this country and that the kind of white girls who associate with these Filipino lads is not calculated to provide the best influences for them. However, the girls are satisfied and generally very happy in their relations with these boys. Their sweethearts are working—all of them—as waiters, elevator operators, janitors, bell boys, etc. and are able to supply them, according to their notions, with abundant attentions and diversion…"

“Some of these boys, with perfect candor, have told me bluntly and boastfully that they practice the art of love with more perfection than white boys, and occasionally one of the girls has supplied me with information to the same effect. In fact some of the disclosures in this regard are perfectly startling in their nature." "Well," said Señor Paredes urbanely, "the Judge admits that Filipinos are great lovers." [Time, April 13, 1936].

If Time magazine were to publish an article like this now or if a judge or any US official were to make a statement denouncing Filipinos as “scarcely more than savages” or such drivel, there would be picket lines throughout the US against Time and the US official organized by the National Federation of Filipino Associations in America (NaFFAA).

Instead of denouncing Judge Lazarus for his racism, Commissioner Paredes was content to simply provide him with an excuse which the judge refused to use.

Instead of denouncing the Repatriation Act, the Filipino Federation of America under Hilario Moncado was simply interested in explaining why Filipinos do not want to leave the US. Unfortunately, there was no NaFFAA then.

To celebrate 100 years of Filipinos in Hawaii, join us in Honolulu on September 28-October 1 this year for the 4th Global Filipino Networking Convention and the 7th NaFFAA National Empowerment Conference. For more information, log on to _www.naffaa.org_ (http://www.naffaa.org/) .

I hope to see you there this year for the 1st centennial celebration. I doubt if anyone of us can make it to the 2nd centennial celebration in 2106.

The Bench store in Eagle Rock isn't open yet. They said that it'll open sometime early next year. Also soon to open in the same mall is Seafood City. One more thing, Robinson's May in that mall is closing down, and there's buzz that the owner of that mall is trying to entice SM to open a branch there. But that's just heresay and there's no credible proof that it will happen, maybe just wishful thinking from the Pinoys in the area, Eagle Rock really is becoming Pinoytown. :colgate:

Hi Louman! :hi: Funny you should mention that mall because that is where we SSC Roadtrippers went shopping and ate before we left for SF. If you see the pics in the USA Meet Thread, the Jollibee and Target in the pictures are in that mall. And no, the Bench store is not open yet.

Guys, what do you think of the new version (yet again) of the World Trade Center in New York? I think the new buildings look great. I like the one designed by Foster, WTC2 (200 Greenwich Street). It's the one with the four diamonds at its crown. I also like Maki's simple WTC4. Lord Roger's tower looks like a taller version of the HSBC tower in HK.

Of course, these towers can never replace the stark simplicity and serene grandeur of the lost twin towers but i think these new buildings will also honor those who died 5 years ago by showing to the world that the spirit of NY didn't die along with the WTC towers.

I hope i can visit New York by 2012 and gaze up at these new marvels.

Please give all credit of these renderings to the New York Times.

Prague is a must for u then..ive heard of krakow, thu ive been wanting to go there, cant wait.

hello..interesting place u found there in Cairo. can u be more specific w/ this perfumestore, where is it?

Hi Lili...Prauge is so beautiful such a special european city so if you ever get a chance... go there...I love Prauge it has many artist and writers you feel Kafka and Kisch in the air, nice jazz clubs and nice gothic buildings, the prices are low compared to many other places in Europe...it is a place I can highly recommend ...a nice experience...and they have the dark bitter beer...that is so nice when it is cold and you are hot..beutiful bridges too just a very nice place to visit...

sounds like u enjoyed urself in prague! very recommended indeed.thu i didnt like their beer, weve gone to the place where they make it even..i had fun buying classical cds, so so cheap! and staying in the old town till 3 am!

Greece wow an experience every time...a suggestion on the island of Thassos outside the city of Kavalla towards Turkey on the eastside of Greece, there you can find the Pan Temple it is a path that leads up to a sanctuary, the ruins of an ancient temple it has small sculptural reliefs for the worship of Pan. Walking up the path is a journey in itslef through the different eras of greec architecture...:) Just load up on water it is a hot, hot walk :)

have you been to mikonos? i heard that's a nice place.

my future travel destination: brasilia (cap. of Brazil) and patagonia.

Speaking of foreign places. I had a strange dream last night. I was at the airport with two of my three bros (the youngest wasn't there) and we were waiting for a flight to Paris. Can't really remember much. It's so strange coz Paris isn't really in my list of top destinations I want to visit. :dunno:

^^ Good morning Chot!
I checked the dream dictionary and it says this about dreaming of Paris -- This beautiful city is a symbol of gaiety and predicts a season of carefree social activity--but be careful not to get drawn into doing things you cannot easily afford. Dreaming about brothers means domestic security.
Airports are hot spots for the unexpected in the waking world, they signify an important transitional state in dreams.

Maybe, your youngest brother is the one who is taking things in life more seriously.

@Lili - The interpretation kinda makes sense. I've been wanting to go that carefree path again mainly coz of all the stress I've been going through lately and I have been planning some purchases. And yes, the youngest bro has always been the serious more responsible one. Or perhaps I just miss my two other bros more since I have seen them for the longest time. And I do think I am going through a transitional state. I am in the midst of making another important decision in my life. Good thing I have a whole year to think about it.

In the book Chariot of God - it said extra terrestial people from Outer space may have brought those very heavy rock monuments from Easter Island's beach to the mountain. Considering 2 or 3K years ago there were no Cranes to lift those rocks. It seems it was lifted by flying saucers ....

pirenzi..nice people.but then again, tuscany is the best in italy.
i have never been to Tuscany. I have been to Genoa, Savona, Napoli, Roma, Venezia, Marina de Carrara, and Firenzi (Florence).

I loved Firenzi so much ... those middle-ages built churches with beautiful paintings and sculptures by Michelangelo, Raphael, Da Vinci, etc. I also missed our Pinay friends who were very sad when we left Firenzi by train going back to Marina de Carrara. That was long ago when I was still a bachelor.

I was awed looking at the works of art by the Italian Rennaissance masters. And the people were all very sharp and fashionable.

Well, when I was in the piazza, there was a Pinoy who was very fluent in Italian. He kept on trying to get us to the shop to sell us leather jackets. And I did mention this young Italian gondolier who kept making googoo eyes at me just because I am a single gal riding the gondola. (guffaw). :D

Italy (Venice, Florence, Milan) (not yet Rome, I want to go there)
Germany (Munich, Frankfurt)
Switzerland (Lucerne, Rigi)
Austria (Vienna)

I am planning to go to Spain or Italy again. Or maybe Prague and other Eastern European countries. Also, I want to go on a pilgrimage to the Holy land and also see the pyramids of Egypt as well as the ruins in Greece and make a side trip to Turkey and Cyprus.

I want to go to make a trip to particularly Japan, China, India, Tibet, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.

AY, anu vah!?! Hindi ako kasama sa rich list ng Pinas ever no! I only write about them, but wish ko lang na mapasama ko sa list na yun! Most of these travels are work-related, so I'm an accidental tourist. I'm a business magazine editor so I get to travel on someone else's dime.

http://www.miraxcity.com/?path=news_federation&vers=eng&id=498&page=4

On the night of February 25 the MIRAX GROUP Corporation finished the casting of foundation slab of tower «А» in the «Federation» business complex being constructed in the MIBC «Moscow-City».

The process of casting started on February 22 at 12:00 p.m. and was finished on February 26 at 01:00 a.m. Thus the procedure lasted continuously for 84 hours. Ultra-strong B-50 concrete was supplied by 5 concrete plants of Moscow. The average rate of concrete feed was 243 m3 per hour. In total it was cast 14 thousand cubic meters of concrete developed by the Moscow Reinforced concrete research institute together with Construction physics research institute by «Mirax-City» company’s request.

The unprecedented in the world casting procedure was registered by the Editor-in-Chief of Guinness Book of Records Craig Glendane, who presented a honorable diploma of a record-holder to Arthur Alexandrov, Construction manager of the «Federation» complex.
