View Full Version : City skyline seen from Marina City Park
RafflesCity August 21st, 2003, 04:40 PM Today I finally checked out the Marina City Park, a large and beautiful park situated on Marina South, a huge chunk of reclaimed land. It was a bizzare and eerie feeling walking there this afternoon, as it was almost empty, save for the sound of insects, waves, boats in the distant harbour and the occasional fighter jet doing rounds.
Nevertheless, the scenes are lovely..so enjoy the pics!

huaiwei August 22nd, 2003, 06:35 AM I hv yet to go to the park. Thsoe pictures are really something. We must be one of the few cities who can present our skyline from almost the same angle, both with the waterfront, or with park land in the foreground. I willhave to visit that park soon, and hopefully Fort Canning as well!! ;)

Here is some information about this awesome park:
Marina City Park (Marina South Park)
Location : Marina South. Entrances at Marina Boulevard and Marina Park.
Size : 30 ha
About the park :
Standing on reclaimed land, this park was planned to be a premier park of Singapore's proposed city of the 21st Century, providing office workers and city dwellers a welcome retreat.
The park boasts a spectacular 2-tiered large pond with the fountain jetting up water 18m high. From the series of waterfront terraces besides the pond, you will get an enchanting view of the greenery on the islands in the pond. There are three large open spaces where events such as Family Day, Carnival can be held.
Sculptures abound here, ranging from contemporary ones such as Soaring Vision, Spirit of Youth, and Sculptural Fountain to historical ones like the Chinese Legendary Heroes.
A star gazer's ideal place will be the Constellation Plaza as he will be able to trace the constellation during the evenings. Besides the large children's playground, the Sundial Plaza at the seafront facing the Promenade is a fun place for the young to learn to tell time.
The park is lit from 7:00 pm to 12:00 am, and from 5:00 am to 7:00 am.
Getting there : Service 400 from Marina Bay MRT Station (between 0908 hrs and 2330 hrs), carparks available next to the park

Pengui July 13th, 2004, 06:55 AM Hello there :-)
I've been looking around for some time now and as I have got a brand new digital camera, I've decided to introduce myself to you ^^
I am a french student and now I'm on internship in Singapore. 3 months gone already and 3 to go... I hope I can find a job before leaving so that I can come back before the end of the year and settle here :-)
I've seen you like Parkview Square, hehe... I've taken a few shots myself... I'm experimenting night shots with my new camera, so sorry for the blurry / low quality shots... I don't have a tripod and need to get used to my new toy anyway ^^
Shots are here:

I carry my camera everytime I go out of my town. So slim, can be put into my pocket...

RafflesCity April 7th, 2005, 03:29 AM yes, the rain can strike suddenly these days, like yesterday afternoon. Started sunny then it rained!
Well the good thing with the past few days of rain is that the trees and plants should be looking nice and green
redstone April 7th, 2005, 03:38 AM I wanna take pics today! Hope no rain, but would be cloudy.
Not hot, I can walk longer distances.... :D
Cliff April 7th, 2005, 06:07 AM Look at the FYI, its quite accurate.:)

Wah so sexy......
RafflesCity April 10th, 2005, 12:29 AM the water looks almost like a glass surface
heh..if you compared the above pic, the crane is the Raffles Quay site...contrast to the earlier pics when the crane in the skyline is NTUC then under construction.
Next it will be The Sail
hyacinthus April 10th, 2005, 05:02 AM The Curvaceous Sail... :D
Bahraini Spirit April 11th, 2005, 01:25 AM Very nice. When I first read the first post "Garden of Eden", I smiled. Just a fact that Bahrain is the "Garden of Eden" if you look back in history. Back to topic, keep those pics comin.

James Foong September 8th, 2005, 11:24 AM Looks like in a New York central park.
RafflesCity September 8th, 2005, 07:57 PM I think the park will be enlarged/integrated with the new Gardens by the Bay in future, which will be much larger and sweep around the bay.
aloyteo September 9th, 2005, 04:24 AM finally a garden right in the heart of the cbd! the current botanic gardens at napier road is too far from the cbd and very few people from the cbd would actually go there. its for those rich tais tais living in the holland road area instead to go for their morning walks and tai chi sessions, haha!
RafflesCity April 16th, 2006, 02:40 PM The view (with 1 Raffles Quay in it):

builder1010 April 21st, 2006, 06:12 PM somethings are missing. how abt flowers? to lighten up with lots of colours!
Pengui April 22nd, 2006, 06:57 AM Trees don't flower often in Singapore, unlike in Japan or Taiwan. This is due to the high humidity all year round :-)
RafflesCity April 23rd, 2006, 02:57 PM Yes more flowers will be good...I am sure there are certain types of flowers suited for the tropics...the plan for the new downtown will include colour-themes, using well known local flowering trees of yellow, pink and another colour...
babystan03 April 23rd, 2006, 02:59 PM Btw is the place very dark and deserted at night?? Is it a long walk from Benjamin Sheares bridge?? :?
RafflesCity April 23rd, 2006, 03:02 PM its a little dim but should be ok. Better to go in the evening when there are more joggers etc.
Its better to go by the bridge. Its quite a long walk from Marina Bay MRT though

RafflesCity December 22nd, 2006, 02:28 PM nice pics....this will be the view from the future park
I think Marina City Park may close next year to redevelop it into the larger Gardens by the Bay...already part of it has been affected by the diversion of the ECP

RafflesCity December 22nd, 2006, 02:41 PM I agree....it may not be too crowded, but depends on what kinda angle you want

The only negative point is that the trees may be blocking the fireworks....
hmmm....it would be cool if they had build a small observation thingy for people to climb on to in the heart of the park....to enjoy views of the gardens, water and the skyline all around them....but the IR will offer that on its roof

in any case, the park is going to close very soon, to be redeveloped into Gardens by the Bay.
Saw that some trees have been plucked away (probably to be kept in storage)

kurakura May 3rd, 2007, 04:52 PM ^^ wah...so free got there? actually i havent been to the park..should go there b4 they do the garden.
RafflesCity May 4th, 2007, 03:06 AM Its has been a largely underutilised park...hope its metamorphosis will change things :D
kurakura May 4th, 2007, 04:17 AM Still have to wait for yrs....somemore the individual parks themselves are to be opened in stages.
Singapore has become the land of delayed projects.
RafflesCity May 5th, 2007, 12:59 PM Nope.
This projected is scheduled to open in 2010. Its development and opening will also be phased I heard - with plans for Marina Centre portion yet to be confirmed.
shao_ye May 29th, 2007, 02:42 PM Marina City Park will officially close on June 1, 2007.

What a pitty I've got to say. The fountains have stopped functioning. Where have all the sculptures of Confucius and seven other Chinese legendary heroes went to? I actually wanted to see it but was disappointed that they are no longer there.
What would happen to the rest of the steel sculptures? The trees planted by MPs are all gone. It's so very dead now. There seems to be nothing much left.
A great place to be but sad to say, it has been very underutilised. Why did they built such a nice park and end up seeing it being so underutilised for many years?
Hope the new one they are going to start 'planting' would be better...?
Till now I still like the current one.
GOMUS May 29th, 2007, 04:59 PM then must go down to take photo these few dayss
