Baka theological studies lang ang concentration nila sa tertiary level so they don't need to be accredited by any agency such as CHED. Yun ang pagkakaalam ko but I'm not 100% sure about it.

Tama!

Maaring ganon nga as far as regular courses are concerned. Iba kasi ang mga school na ganito kung mga members lang ang pwedeng pumasok ibig sabihin parang exclusive training within the organization lang ang offered and its not like the university that we all know. Pwede pa rin nilang i-present yung diploma nila outside the organization as part of their resume kung mag-aaply sila pero nasa company na yan kung i-ho-honor nila o hindi.

Feature: Restoring Tuguegarao’s historical landmark, the Rizal Park
Friday 3rd of February 2012

Whether Cagayanos admit it or not, the Rizal Park of Tuguegarao City is in a very bad shape. No thanks to the vandals and other criminal elements who have used it at one time or another as a stop-over for their nefarious activities in the past.

The lot where it now stands was first dedicated by Governor Honorio Lasam to the national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal on August 17, 1918 where it complemented another historical building at its side, the old residence of the gobernadorcillo during the Spanish regime.

Tourist drawer
Leon Avila who witnessed the development of the area in the 1970s claimed that prior to its massive development during the incumbency of Governor Teresa Dupaya from the mid 1960s to the early 1980s, it has always been an obscure lot highlighted only by a monument of the hero.

When Dupaya, a teacher by profession and who was called the ‘Dancing Governor of the Philippines” by Panorama magazine , took the reign of provincial governance in the late 1960s, she introduced aggressive improvements in the area.

“It became one of the attractions of the province then. It has since graced various Cagayan tourism promotions flyers and brochures, magazines, and newspapers,” Avila noted in 2010.

Drumbeaters of the Dupaya administration claimed it was the first replica of the original Rizal Park or Luneta in Manila in the entire Northern Luzon area. It features a beautifully landscaped garden, a ‘dancing fountain,’ and a grass-carpeted lawn where Cagayanos loved to spend their evenings.

It short, it was a tourist attraction by itself and like the Luneta of Manila, locals and visitors could not resist the lure of photo opportunities whenever possible.

Sanctuary
However, as early as the mid-1990s when the park was no longer a priority project of the Cagayan Ppovincial government, it started to deteriorate.

Dim-lighted and with no assigned security, the lawless elements made the park their base and meeting ground. The park's sullied reputation drove residents to shun the area.

Soon, even the plants wilted and died; and other simple amenities were destroyed. Its fountain, once the pride of the park, has become an eyesore. In short, the Rizal Park of Tuguegarao was slowly dying.

To the Rescue
Only last week, a group of student-leaders from the Cagayan State University took it upon themselves to do something for the park, inspired by other movements for a cause elsewhere in the country.

Leo Romano, a legal management student of the College of Business Entrepreneurship and Accountancy , councilor of the student organization , at the same time project leader of the "Move Cagayan: For A Change, Run For Rizal Park” said that as a resident of Tuguegarao, he saw the deplorable condition of the park, once the playground of his parents.

“We were supposed to join the "Run for Ilog Pasig" last year where we were supposed to run too, but Pasig is too far from us. My friends just came up with an idea that we can also run for a cause here in Tuguegarao,” he said.

Immediately, the group unanimously decided to make the park their rallying point. At first, it was a simple run for the student organization of his college. When they broached the idea to the university administration, its president decided to make it a university undertaking.

Thus, the “Move Cagayan: For a Change, Run for Rizal Park" project was born with Romano as the leader.

The students plan to raise an initial P50,000 to finance a new dancing fountain in its original location with Romano’s sister, an architectural student of another university in Tuguegarao, creating the new design.

Being apolitical, the students merely informed the provincial government of their desire to help reconstruct the structure and didn’t bother officials for donations.

“We want to help build a structure from our own sweat without government interventions,” Romano said.

When young professionals in the province learned of such undertaking, they started to throw their support and started registering for the three- kilometer run which will start from the Cagayan stadium to the Rizal Park in Barangay Centro 10.

The students said it will be the start of their dream of restoring the old glory and prestige that was Rizal Park. This early, they already identified other areas within the park which need immediate repair and reconstruction.

“We hope other universities will join us. Regardless of where we study, the fact that we are doing something for our society should be the link that will bind us,” Romano said.

The student-organizers are neck deep into their preparation all for the sake of a forsaken local park.

E-trike is the answer to high fuel cost and pollution-free streets - DOE
Saturday 4th of February 2012

DAGUPAN CITY, Feb. 4 (PIA) -- The Department of Energy (DOE) identified an alternative to the soaring prices of petroleum products and unbearable pollution in the cities with the introduction of the ‘e-trike.’

The E-trike, short for electronic tricycle, is a battery-powered vehicle that can seat at least six passengers excluding the driver.

Director Efren Balaoing of DOE’s Luzon Field office said it is the government’s aim to help the transport group and at the same time come out with vehicles that emit low carbon.

The e-trike’s battery just needs to be charged and could be used again the next day. Estimated cost for battery charging, he said, is P50 as against P200- P300 worth of gasoline for a day’s travel.

“Operators and drivers can save much. Gas consumption and pollution can be greatly reduced,” Balaoing said during the Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) aired over Radyo ng Bayan- Dagupan Tuesday.

He encouraged local government executives to help their constituents avail of the e-trike. The whole package will cost around P250,000 but could be brought at a lower price once it becomes commercialized, he said.

Balaoing said Filipinos are innovative. Thus, if there is an SUV for sports utility vehicle and AUV for Asian utility vehicle, the e-trike might as well be an RUV or rural utility vehicle, he quipped.

In line with this, the DOE, in partnership with PIA, spearheaded a contest for the best e-trike design which was launched last month and will run until February 17. The top three winners will receive P200,000 each and another seven winners will be receiving consolation prize of P50,000 each. Interested contestants may visit the DOE website at www. doe.gov.ph or the PIA website at www.pia.gov.ph.

SMIC to spend P54 B for mall, property dev‘t
Monday, February 6, 2012
The Philippine Star By Zinnia B. Dela Peña

(02/05/2012) MANILA, Philippines -- Aiming to sustain its double-digit growth, SM Investments Corp. (SMIC), the listed holding firm of the family of retail tycoon Henry Sy, has earmarked around P54 billion for capital spending this year, higher than the P43 billion capital budget in 2011.

SMIC chief finance officer Jose T. Sio said bulk of the programmed capital outlay this year, or around P40 billion, will come from internally-generated cash while P14 billion will be funded by way of equity or debt issue by the group.

This year’s spending budget, the highest ever for the company, will mostly go to mall development and construction of residential and office buildings, Sio said.

He said remittances from Filipinos working overseas would continue to underpin growth across the group’s core businesses.

SMIC owns stakes in mall giant SM Prime Holdings Inc., property firm SM Development Corp., and lenders Banco De Oro Unibank and China Banking Corp. It also holds a 17 percent stake in Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corp.

In the nine months ending September last year, SMIC grew its net income by 13.6 percent to P14.2 billion on higher revenue across all its businesses.

SM Prime, the country’s largest retail landlord, has allocated P21 billion for its expansion here and in China. On the homefront, the company is slated to open five new malls this year: in San Fernando in Pampanga, Olongapo in Zambales, Lanang in Davao, Gen. Santos in South Cotabato, and Consolacion in Cebu.

These would bring the group’s total branch network to 46 malls with a total gross floor area of 5.7 million square meters.

Outside the Philippines, the group is opening SM Chongqing, its fifth mall in China which will have a gross floor area of 146,323 square meters.

SMDC, meanwhile, is spending P20.7 billion to launch four to five new residential projects.

SMIC’s hotels and convention centers segment is targeting 1,000 hotel rooms by 2013.

Plano nilang tapusin bago graduation.

Off hand, ok fine kung sila unang magkaroon ng malaking mall (SM or Rob). Tuguegarao is exceptional in many different aspects. Just be thankful with what we have here in the province. We are not self confessed pessimist, we are receptive to challenges.

Just be a good and responsible citizen, malaking tulong na yan para sa ika-uunlad ng probinsya.

Yes, tuguegarao is exceptional in many ways. It is the regional center and center of education in the region. It is has the highest population density. The healthier the better.

About municipalities, marahil yun ang weakness ng Cagayan... Try to look at the google map, huwag papalitan ang type of map. But it does not really mean na may napag iwanan na dahil may kanya kanyang strength ang bayan at ang Tugue is really very exceptional in many ways.

Hmm IMO, I believe the Center of Education tag of Tuguegarao is hers to keep. The universities in the city would have developed and improved more by the time other colleges become universities.

Maling pananaw yan. It only goes to show our lack of insight on what is good for our future. They are doing everything they can to curb population growth. Nakikita ang progress sa effective delivery of basuc services by the government and not on what kind of store a town or city has. A bigger population does not dictate the economic potentials of a city but rather the demand. At isa pa.

@freightrunner, agree ako sa view mo about population.

Just to add lang..pinapatulan ko yung idea na the bigger the population the better with regard to the idea of putting up a business like a super mall. Mas maraming tao sa isang lugar mas malaki ang possibility magtayo ng negosyo all other factors being constant.

Syempre that's not always the case...

To Rhainne, Just keep it up!! You are just being true to yourself. Actually I appreciate you, because you are looking to both sides of the situation, I mean you are from Cagayan and I know you are proud of it and its growth and development. At the same time tinitingnan mo rin ang development ng ibang lugar to gauge how's your growth and development compared with other neighboring provinces. And you have the nerve to say kung ano ang nakikita mo whether its positive or negative. We should give rooms for negative comments, para makita natin kung saan tayo kulang o anung mga bagay ang kailangang iimprove. Dont you think guys its healthy? No offense meant! Cagayan is doing well though.

Kaya nga tinawag na forum 'to di ba?

You're not being pessimist, you're just seeing things from a different perspective,

coz lots of forumers would tend to go beyond the realities and facts.

To say that a certain place doesnt ROb and SM... is nonetheless maybe true in some ways... but having an SM and ROb speaks volume. :)

It would be good if you have that strong faith that Tuguegarao will still be the education center of R02 30 years from now. We won't set aside those challenges but keep on believing, definitely won't be good for your if you keep on complaining and looking at Tugue's future in blurred image.

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Feb. 8 (PIA) -- To fastrack completion of some major infrastructure projects and social services in selected municipalities of the 3rd district of Cagayan, Congressman Randolph S. Ting has allotted P16.5 million budget for this year to finish the target accomplishments.

The congressman said the major projects such as school building constructions, community hospitals, and social services need to be completed as early as possible as they facilitate public and human developments, as contribution towards economic improvement.

Ting said P5 million was allotted for the delivery of social services, P4.5 million for the construction of public hospitals, and P7 million for livelihood projects, which will eventually help boost the economy of the region and uplift the living condition of the marginalized sector.
